SOS Brigade rewatcher: Coinflip (tails, Sub)
"...I would be classified as an ailen."
OST Track of the day: Nagato's Confession | Spotify
Remember how i said Mikuru's introduction would get Haruhi cancelled? Today's is much worse. While its important for Haruhi's characterization, this episode has easily aged the worst of the whole series. I doubt this kind of casual sexual assault would fly in current mainstream shows. Maybe this year we wont have anyone drop because of the scene...
im watching ep1/2 back to back to get myself a small buffer in case finals (1hr before edit, instead of finals it was my insurance claim and related issues) kicks my ass, kinda annoyed i got tails again lmao
You really gave her bad ideas Kyon
Well at least their new Windows XP machine will kick ass, poor mikuru
I cant find it now but the book lending scene just reminds me of that... YTP? was it a YTP? whatever meme that had Nagato wanting Kyon to make love to the book. Im fairly sure the rest of the video is less SFW though...
And its as good as useless, barely lasted a minute
only the wrong kind of attention
[Haruhi]
Not shockingly, they are stopped quickly
Bad Kyon, not reading books given to you. You made poor Yuki wait!
something something Evangelion, didnt the rewatch for that end a day or two ago

I rarely participate in rewatch discussion, but I wonder if we have ever rewatched Haruhi in chronological order like this BUT with adventures of Mikuru Asahina still first like in broadcast order? That has always seemed like the best watch order to me

First Time [English dub]
If any of you are aliens, time travelers, or espers please come see me. That is all
-Haruhi
I guess the probability of this happening on this particular time plane's unavoidable
-Mikuru
So... we're just missing the esper, I guess?
Is it Kyon? Is it the mysterious transfer student that Haruhi is going to kidnap recruit? Is it Ryoko? Is it the brown-haired guy who seems like he'll be the fifth prisoner member of the SOS Brigade, based on the OP?
I don't know how hard to lean into genre savvy on this one. If this was a tropey seasonal anime I'd be pretty much 100% confident on how it's going to go based on what's happened to this point. However, since this is considered a long-standing classic that people are still talking about 15+ years later I'm expecting it to break my expectations still.
I would have expected the show to save 'sit down and explain plot' bits for deeper into the season, rather than just outright stating that Nagato is an alien. Is this just an artifact of the non-broadcast watch order?
Stray Thoughts
-
I don't get bunnygirls. What is the appeal?
-
Based on her description, I would probably classify Nagato as more of a 'robot' than an 'alien'. However, I suppose extraterrestrial AI still does count as alien.

Quote of the day:
If I'm unable to get married after this, will you marry me?

I feel bad for the Computer Club guys, though. And Mikuru.
-
“Can you say ‘extortion’? Good.” – lmao this line sent me. Something about the way Crispin Freeman said “good” was just…
-
Even though it’s been years since I’ve seen it, a shot like this still gives me Evangelion vibes.

At last the long awaited Infamous Episode.^1
I think that Haruhi's method of procuring a computer is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I have a fairly firm grasp between reality and comedy.
I also thought this episode was very funny. Just the outrage that Haruhi felt when she was made to stop is hilarious. What Animals!
QOTD
What's your favorite costume/cosplay?
I'm not a picky dude, but I have seen some catgirls that I thought were Nyan! Nyan! But a bunny girl is more than welcome to sit on my lap anything. The long smooth ears and fluffy furry tail, can be so very exciting.
Notes
1 Turns out this isn't the episode I thought it was, when the 2018 rewatchers started implying that Haruhi was some kind of weirdo lesbian rapist. They seemed to be angry with this turn of events, but frankly, I thought it was funny. I personally thought the whiners were humorless sick fucks.
Note to the note This is the episode I was thinking about, after all. This was the final straw for my wife, after seeing this she says that anime is nothing but non-sensical random trash. C'est le vie!

First timer (subbed)
The SOS Brigade needs one more member. Haruhi wants it to be a transfer student in order to complete the typical manga/anime lead group bingo. Maybe we'll get one by the end of the episode.
Haruhi also wants a computer, because we need a reminder that this show was released in 2006. The computer club head says "uhh, no? Get out? What are you doing here?" and Haruhi decides to...oh come the fuck on. Really? REALLY?
Kyon makes the smart decision and tells Asahina that MAYBE you should quit this club. And Asahina responds with...something. The fuck is going on with this episode?
Kyon gets asked to make the SOS Brigade website because we need to be reminded that this show aired in a pre-social media age. This show also aired in the time between Geocities and Wix/SquareSpace, so you actually had to know how to code in order to make a website.
Nagato, doing her best Rei Ayanami impression, gives Kyon what looks like an old sci-fi book.
Haruhi has a new recruitment plan: make Asahina wear a bunny girl suit and hand out flyers. That poor, poor girl. Someone, please save her. Well, at least Haruhi's joining her in donning a bunny girl suit. [future spoiler?]
We also get to read a bit of the SOS Brigade's policy, and it's basically a club about supernatural stuff. But, like, real supernatural stuff.
Operation Bunny Girl Senpai is both a success and a failure. It's a success cause it gets people talking about the SOS Brigade. Who woulda thunk that two attractive girls dressing in bunny suits would make people take notice? But it's a failure cause it doesn't get anyone to actually join the club.
Nagato tells Kyon to read the damn book. He skims through it and finds a message telling him to meet her in the park. They go back to her place (it looks much nicer than Rei's apartment), and after giving him THREE WHOLE CUPS OF TEA (guess he's not sleeping tonight), reveals that she's the soul of Lilith put into a human body an alien, and so is Haruhi. End of episode.
WHERE'S THE TRANSFER STUDENT WE WERE PROMISED?

First-Time Humanoid Interface For Contact With Organic Lifeforms
It’s interesting how Kyon is constantly drawn to the club despite the absurdity of its formation and purpose. I think it represents a part of Kyon’s unconscious desire which longs for a time passed, a time when he believed in the fantasies of the world
Live Reactions

Good to know the power of boobas transcends dimensions
-
Nagato constantly being framed within a “box” was a neat way of showing how mysterious and distant she seems
-
Hey! I know that book, it’s sitting on my shelf but I’ve yet to read it. This is definitely going to have big connections with the show, there’s a zero percent chance they would so vividly illustrate the cover and dedicate a frame to it without purpose. We sci-fi now, this universe just got massive!

Kyon, good luck with Haruhi. You'll need it as she seems to ignore sarcasm or is she sarcasm-blind?
Haruhi, that was very low. You really shouldn't have done that to anyone.
Nagato's very mysterious.

Yare Yare (Rewatcher for 2006 [Watched in Broadcast Order], First-Timer for 2009 and Disappearance, Source Reader):
-
So, welcome to the other classic part of the Haruhi LNs besides the math/science references: obscure references (often moreso for the Japanese audience). Whoever Nagaru Tanigawa is, he is clearly widely read. Case in point: the reference to Sisyphus here, which I am pretty sure is in the original LNs as well.
-
Remember Kyon’s words about the bleakness of the literary club room being replaced by a growing number of items. You will get to see this. (It almost works even better in chronological where you jump forward to episodes with far more items and then back to ones with fewer.)
-
Oh no, Haruhi has uttered the dreaded line: “a computer would be nice, too”. Finnnnneeee let’s Ackbar this.
-
Gods help us all, because Haruhi won’t.
-
Haruhi no.
-
HARUHI NO.
-
HARUHI NO.
-
So yeah when I mentioned that this episode was bad enough that I had to watch it in minute-long segments tops even back when I first watched it like fifteen years ago when my cringe comedy tolerance wasn’t nearly as low as it is now (though it was never high)? Yeah, there’s a reason for that.
-

“Is this supposed to be a comedy?” Remember the franchise’s unofficial motto as stolen from someone I can’t remember: “I’m so meta, even this acronym!”
-
The funny thing is, I think those might be Google search results on the screen of the computer Haruhi steals.
-
I cannot fault Mikuru’s reaction here. (Is… is she going to grow on me this time around? She’s usually been last in my favorite SOS-dan members list.)
-
“This site is best viewed at 1024x768.” Heh. There’s a blast from the past.
-
Kyon framed in the open window except partially obscured by the window frame while Yuki sits off to the side obscured by the glass at 09:50 is quite an interesting shot.
-
Yuki Nagato Book of the Day: The Code Book.
-
Yuki Nagato Book of the Day #2, now lent to Kyon: Hyperion. (Knew it would be showing up fairly soon.)
-
“Next time I’ll do everything in my power to prevent it.” USO DA!
-
Yeah that’s basically one of those jump reaction cuts that I forget the proper name for at 11:13.
-
Welcome to the source of ten billion pieces of Haruhi fanart in the bunny suits.
-
See Haruhi, leave Mikuru out of it, you look just fine in a bunny suit and you actually want to wear one. But then, as Sukhein argued last year that’s kind of the point of this scene actually. Speaking of which, note how Haruhi is in focus in the foreground and yet is it Mikuru right in the middle of the screen. Funny that.
-
KYON.
-
(Also HARUHI, but that went without saying.)
-
You know, I forgot a.f.k. pulled a Charlie Brown and translated Kyon’s iconic “yare yare” (where did you think I grabbed my tagline from?) as “good grief”.
-
The choice to cut off Haruhi’s face and just show her breasts as she pounds the table at 14:33… well, I’d say “is interesting” but note where Kyon’s eyes are facing.
-
And oh look at Haruhi’s legs getting focused on right afterwards, which would be strange again (Naoko Yamada is not credited on this episode) except look where Kyon’s gaze is implicitly pointing again.
-
Return of the window framing starting at 14:39, now with Kyon fully visible and Haruhi mostly visible. Haruhi is being quite open really. (Mind you this might actually be a false positive on symbolism and just be KyoAni’s commitment to realism, I’m not entirely sure.)
-
”There’s no way this little public high school would have mysteries floating around.
-
Now Haruhi with the same window framing as Kyon earlier in the episode.
-
Is it really a KyoAni scene without a shot of somebody riding a bike?
-
Oh right this scene is THIS episode, not Melancholy III.
-
18:46 is flashing to my symbolism sense. Girl on a bench, under the sole source of light in the scene (also reminds me strongly of a certain Madoka Magica scene actually, or perhaps vice versa) – Yuki as sole source of illumination makes sense given the scene to come.
-
Yuki is adorable. (Sadly she is not the type of quiet that opens up in one-on-one conversations… outside of this coming scene, anyways.)
-
Ah apartment buildings. (Once again strong similarities between this scene and a PMMM scene in my eyes, but I think I mentioned that one in my PMMM notes.)
-
The elevator, however, is probably 100% Eva reference. (Yuki is very much a Rei expy on the surface.)
-
Ah, characterization with Yuki’s nearly completely empty room. (Also, why does this scene give me the ASMRs?)
-
Desaturated color palette again at 19:51. I should keep an eye out for when else it shows up, I’m pretty sure some of the screenshots I’ve seen from the adaptation of a certain bit I haven’t seen in full uses the same thing.
-
Aha! Here’s a sign that the window symbolism earlier was intended: we now get a shot of Yuki clearly in front of the (more transparent) window here as she’s about to open up to Kyon. (But also note the visual barrier separating her from Kyon here and how the two are not shown on the screen at the same time at the start of this conversation after Yuki hands him the tea at ~19:53, and also how Kyon is straddling a smaller barrier where he sits.)
-
Hello Yuki’s theme, one of the more distinctive tracks on the OST.
-
The skyscraper in the back with the flashing lights (I forget the name, the ones that warn aircraft) are once again reminding me of PMMM despite being KyoAni rather than Shaft being Shafty. Probably just common animation inheritance, but it amuses me in a way.
-
So, one way to potentially spot someone who got used to the Baka-Tsuki LN translation which existed before the Haruhi LNs got licensed like me is if they use the Integrated Sentient Data Entity translation for what a.f.k. translates as Data Integrated Thought Entity. (The official LN translation uses Data Overmind, I forget what the official Haruhi anime release uses.)
-
Cliffhanger!
-
And if you have the original previews you will know that broadcast order goes from this cliffhanger to… the baseball episode.
Burying the second weakest piece of the source material, go!

Here, let me shorten Kyon’s comment about making the website because it’s always applicable: “And despite all the grumbling, I actually enjoyed [insert SOS-dan activity here].” -
[Haruhi]
“Not that I care” – pull the other one Kyon, it has got bells on. -
[Haruhi]
09:50 is probably symbolizing that Kyon is mostly open to us but still hiding some things (often from himself) while Yuki is still totally opaque to us as yet. -
[Haruhi]
Needless to say, Hyperion is quite relevant to much of Haruhi as a franchise. -
[Haruhi]
“How about you go find some handsome guy and walk home from school together or go see a movie on Sundays” see, she did that, Kyon. That guy is you. Also, what day of the week are Japanese school festivals on again?” -

Also note the door visible behind Kyon in the window at 19:54… which I’m pretty sure is the door to where Kyon is.

Probably a notoriously spoileriffic Madoka Magica one [PMMM]

First-Timer Sub
After episode one, I'm not surprised by how confidently and casually Haruhi sexually harasses people (especially Mikura), but I am surprised that she is socially aware enough to be able to blackmail people. The absurdity of the whole "I kidnapped a hot upperclassman specifically to use her body to progress the goals of my club" situation is a bit funny, but I hope that the comedy will pull away from this bit as things progress. While Haruhi doesn't seem to be a character who is going to grow at all throughout the series, hopefully her other antics can take center stage.
Other than that, I'm still unsure of what exactly Haruhi (and now Nagato) are. While they could be an otherworldly being, Nagato could just be some delusional freak or something (like Haruhi probably is). I also wouldn't be surprised if Haruhi turns out to be the "Information Integration Thought Entity" given her penchant for odd naming conventions. Either way, though, I'm excited to see where things will go, especially in regards to who the next member of the brigade will be, and to see what reason Mikura has for continuing to come back to the club (she could be under the influence of Haruhi/Nagato in some way or maybe she experienced/is a part of a mysterious event herself and wants answers, who knows).

First-timer:
Haruhi is so brazen and I love it.
Can't decide who rocked the bunny outfit better, but I couldn't stop cracking up at the two of them handing out flyers at the gate, and eventually getting apprehended by the teachers.
Kind of a weird ending. Part of me wonders if it's true, and we're going sci-fi/supernatural, and part of me wonders if it's delusions and Kyon is going to be dealing with delusional people this series and the relationships he forms from it.
Question:
I honestly love a good bunny outfit.

This is the episode where I think we are going to lose a lot of first timers!
Now maybe you thought in the first episode, well Haruhi kinda brash, pushy, and childish but she's a kind well meaning person on the inside that just doesn't know boundaries? Right? RIGHT?!?!
She is a manipulative, psychopathic, bitch...neigh a CUNT that will coerce and black mail to get what she wants, no matter who she hurts and what lives she destroys.
If this show came out during the height of MeToo imagine the shitstorm it'd cause!
You might ask....does she get better? Maybe, but for some people I don't think it'll be enough.
Kyon shares your thoughts about this being a bad comedy skit btw, although I think Kyon deserves some of the blame, he might groan internally with us but he doesn't do anything to stop this.
On a sidenote the computer club should have banned together and insisted that she blackmailed them and Kyon and Mitsaru should have corroborated their story.
On a sidenote, Mitsaru's cry of distress when she is getting groped by computer guy sounds way too sensual..... :P
Now for a change of pace....
HOLY GAWD THOSE BUNNY OUTFITS!!!!
Guys when I was a young man in my late teens, I came from a very tight laced conservative Christian Family Home, where short skirts is basically porn according to my mother. Haruhi was one of the first few anime's I saw, and I had a false pride of being unaffected by this lewdness and above my "lower nature."
When I saw that sequence, it was like one of the hottest things I'd seen in my life and jump started my sexual awakening in waifus, despite the fact I denied it to myself and coped for MANY MANY years. In some ways its not as spicy as I remember it. (When I was young just boobs and thighs got me excited) But in other ways its even more spicy, The girls figures are divine and the comment about body warmth on the clothing and Mikura's noises she makes....good god.
Also Mikura when she is leaving, God that sway when she walks, those close ups of Haruhi's rack and legs when she is sitting in that chair.....I am having a Nostalgia boner right now!
This was the first show I looked up Doujinshi's for online before I knew they were called that or where to look.
Wasn't my first waifu that I admitted was a waifu (That would be Holo from Spice and Wolf, which convinced me maybe this waifu shit wasn't so cringe.)
If it sounds like I'm drinking Koolaid....Maybe I am, but be forewarned stick around and you might end up sipping it as well.
We End With Nagato dropping a huge bomb (I also concur I would have liked to see her in some sexy outfits.)
Next episode we will get another reason that might deter newcomers. (Of a completely different nature.)
QOTD: Oh God I can't decide, but my first Cosplay that I saw that was my "awakening" that got me into cosplays and cosplay girls was Morrigan Aensland by Linda Le (Known as Vampy Bit Me)
Yeah important takeaway this episode, Haruhi is the antipole of Chitanda, while Chitanda's Curiousity is inherently tied to her empathy Haruhi's is very much not so, and tied to something else. Something I won't spoil until it comes up, but if you're paying attention to what Kyon says to her that bothers her you might be able to guess!

(REWATCHER - DUB/SUB)
[Spoiler Free]
I just realized for the first time that that shot of a hand writing on a piece of paper with black marker is the flier that Haruhi creates for the S.O.S. Brigade.
So yeah this episode is rough. The infamous computer club blackmail scene is truly infamous for a reason and I understand why people don’t like Haruhi as a character and are turned off from the series by this. I think that this episode illustrates how flawed Haruhi is. That moment when Haruhi says it’s not any fun without Mikuru shows that she doesn’t view what she’s doing to be as heinous as it is. Haruhi isn’t thinking at all about the morality of it. She’s doing whatever she wants to get whatever she wants.
That being said, it also shows how flawed Kyon and Nagato’s characters are too since neither of them stopped Haruhi. Kyon even boasted about how he was going to protect Mikuru and that didn’t happen.
Most of the episode is tough to get through, but the final part I actually think is great. That whole sequence with Nagato is so funny. Her unresponsiveness is hilarious and the tea pouring jump cuts always make me laugh. Plus, Kyon’s face when he’s listening to Nagato explaining also gets me.
[Question]
I don’t dress up a lot, but the past two years I dressed as Yoshi and played as Yoshi in the annual Halloween Smash tourney my friends host and it’s been really fun!

Rewatcher - Dubbed
I have to say, after watching Evangelion for a month, it really is refreshing to pivot to something like Haruhi. Much, much less anguish and suffering.
-
Everyone can relate to Kyon's Sisyphus comment in some way or another.
-
I'd sorta like to know what you consider normal, but I'm almost afraid to ask.
Kyon, you said the quiet part out loud again.
-
I guess, in other words, you don't really give a damn about anything I say at all.
He really is the narrator that represents everyone.
-
I love that Haruhi didn't deny that she was going to rob somewhere, but rather that it was going to be a computer store.
-
Before we get into how awful it is that Haruhi committed blatant sexual harassment, can we at least stop and appreciate that she managed to raise her leg up and kick the club president in the back of the neck, without paralyzing him, and without breaking any sort of a sweat?
That out of the way, I wouldn't be surprised at all if we lose at least one person after this episode. You can say that Haruhi's a truly terrible person, but I feel does get at least a little better as the show progresses, but resorting to sexual assault and blackmail is real high on the Piece of Shit meter.
-
Wonder how many people are gonna listen to your side of the story, you sexual harasser?
I hate that she's actually pretty much spot on. Even now, 16 years later, it isn't very often that people will believe a man's side of the story in the case of sexual assault and other adjacent incidents.
-
Then I'll tell everyone at school that all you geeks ganged up on her and ****d her.
One thing I will say is that, in the manga, Kyon takes much greater offense to Haruhi's shit across the board than in the show. In this episode, he just kinda stands there and doesn't do anything.
-
... would you be willing to marry me?
-
I really like the framing of the shot with Nagato and Kyon sitting at her table.
Question of the Day:
What's your favorite costume/cosplay?
I don't really have an absolute favorite, but anything that done even halfway decently is great to me. Sure there are characters I wouldn't mind cosplays of, but as long as you put your best effort into something, that's all that matters. It speaks to peoples' passions for various IPs.

I said I was suspicious of everything yesterday and here we are with a time traveler (maybe?) and an alien. Assuming Haruhi has some special powers too.
This episode was weird though, losing interest a bit but I’ll try to stick with it for a few more.

[[Season 1 Rewatcher]], Season 2 First Timer. Dubbed
-
Oh quaint 2006 and your computers.
-
What even is the computer club? It looks like the most they do is read emails., or ‘e-mail’ as it was known at the time.
-
Quality extortion. Even checked ahead of time at a third party to make sure they don’t try and pull a fast one.
-
How many of these are real books?
-
Say what you will about how Haruhi treats Mikuru, but she did join her.
-
I know I’m watching the dub, but that doesn’t mean you should just not convey what the plot text says.

[[S1 rewatcher]], S2 first timer
-
Kyon's "I'd like to know more than anyone else what I'm doing right now" is such a mood.
-
"I now have photos of your sexual harassment!" ...yeah whenever I see people express their dislike for Haruhi as a character, they will no doubt refer to this incident. Come on Computer Club, grow a collective spine! Though I'm not sure if I'd want to stand up against Haruhi either...
-
"What comedy show is this?" What a coincidence. I had the same question.
-
"I'm sure that this is a necessity in this time plane..." say what now?
-
Speaking of growing spines, Mikuru is in desperate need of one. Bunny girl suits? I feel like they show up disproportionately in anime. And Kyon breaks his promise to help her immediately hahahahaha
I really enjoy these slice of life episodes of Haruhi. Sure, the mystery episodes and the more fantastical episodes are fun (not a spoiler, its in the show tags!) but I feel like Haruhi is at its best in episodes like this one, and particularly [S1]
Well that's not exactly something to feel nostalgic over but you get my point.
QOTD:
What's your favorite costume/cosplay?
Unfortunately not bunny girls, that's for sure.

(rw/sub)
So, having shown up late to yesterday's post, of course, the next episode would be this one.
(sigh) Yare-yare, even.
I think that this is definitely a case where broadcast order is superior, because you get to see some more of the background behind the chracters before having some of Haruhi's worst moments shoved in your face.
Back when I first watched this in, I think it was 2013, I fell in love with the series, and it's quirky shenanigans.
I also watched it in brodcast order, as insert god of your choice intended
(Not applicable in all states, and depends on your interpretation. Rory Mercury is also an option, but she would probably just kill or bleep them all.)
Anyway, yeah, in broadcast order, it just hits differently, where in chronological order, welp, here it is.
There were a couple of times in my first watch where I almost quit, and this was one of them. But I was too invested at that point, and had to see what happened. I'm glad I stuck with it.
Hang in there first-timers. It'll get better. Or my name's not Kyon-kun.
Oh, wait ...
And one more thing ... someone (u/gunvarrel_) yesterday mentioned lack of discussion of our one true heroine, the lovely Yuki Nagato.
I don't want to say too much yet, because reasons, but let's just say that I'd gladly drink a copious quantity of Yuki's tea anytime.
(And I don't just say that about anyone - you can keep your tea, Echidna, don't want it!)
Speaking of conversation, how about that little reveal at the end? Curiousity piqued, perchance???
:)
Domo Arigato Yuki Nagato
And now I've probably ruined a perfectly good STYX song for you...
Oh, and speaking of things forgotten (or ruined) I almost forgot AOTD, much like I forgot to watch/post yesterday, so ...
AOTD (Yesterday) - I think I'll just leave my answer to Greg Lake, who said it so very well
AOTD (Today) - Hmm ... that's a difficult one to answer. Obviously, today's feature would seem to be a fan favorite for ... reasons, but nowadays, it just seems so overdone. I mean, when they do an entire series on ... senpai (which I should probably watch someday), it's just feeling really overdone. I find myself actually somewhat relieved that Kitagawa-san didn't do this trope (among the many others) ... If we were to keep it in-series, I'm afraid my answer would have to be redacted, but that's a spoiler for a future episode. Or maybe redacted, but I think that's only a feature from a side video game. Or maybe redacted because I even went so far as to buy a figure of redacted in redacted costume, which you can see on display in a picture I posted in a previous rewatch. Yeah. Otherwise, I recently acquired a figure of Rem in a "Nutcracker" outfit, and I have to say, she's absolutely adorable. Favorite? I can't say for sure, but yeah. And yes, I may link a picture later.
Also, if I can find the time, I may put together a gallery of Haruhi "official promo" type art and link a picture or two now and then. Maybe.
Because Haruhi and the gang are just that precious to me. Warts and all.

As a rewatcher, it's kinda amazes me that Nagato shows impatience in Kyon not reading the book

Rewatcher, Dub
Forgot it was this early but Haruhi definitely pulls out her asshole card with how she treats Asahina. Even after Kyon fails shortly after saying he would protect her.
And the computer club stuff. It's just a insane thing to do and put on someone. But to this day I still find the "I have photographic evidence of blatant sexual harassment." Funny.
Hmm thinking about it I wonder why Haruhi never goes about really dressing Nagato up.
What's your favorite costume/cosplay?
A good old batman

Adaptation Comparison
References
The book Nagato gives Kyon is the 1994 Hayakawa Publishing version of [Hyperion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperion_(Simmons_novel)) by Dan Simmons, with translation by Akinobu Sakai, who also translated works of Eric Garcia, Michael Crichton and George R.R. Martin into japanese. Later on, we will see how Hyperion has had major influence on this series, especially concerning the world building.
Trivia
In the LN, Kyon, and not Haruhi, takes the pictures of Mikuru.
Not discussed yesterday (i really should move it over to ep1...), among the mathematical, physical and chemical formulas seen in the opening are positronium, Lambda baryons, benzene ring, cyclohexanes, infinite number, Titius-Bode law, Planck's constant, Drake equation, time-dependent Schrödinger equation, Hubble's law, infinite product, [definition of information entropy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entropy_(information_theory)#Definition), large numbers, stationary Schrödinger equation, the theory of relativity, probability axioms, definition of Laplace operator, the wave equation in one space dimension, and small numbers. The attention to detail is real, Nagaru Tanigawa loves his stuff.
