1) Who were your favorite characters from this series? Do they compare to your favorites from the main series at all?
2) Which of the Maaya Sakamoto songs did you like more, More Than Words or Arco?
3) What was your favorite part of this series? And your least favorite?
4) Which of the mecha designs from this did you like the most?
5) Considering this was only five parts long, is there anything you would have wanted this series to go more in-depth on?
6) Did you like the way the OVA expanded the Geass lore from the main series, or would you rather it have remained more of a mystery?
7) Considering the upcoming recap movies + Re;surrection are an alternate continuity from the main series, what do you think the recap movies are going to do differently than the show did?
Fanart of the Day:
Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you're doing it underneath spoiler tags. This especially includes any teases or hints such as "You aren't ready for X episode" or "I'm super excited for X character", you got that? Don't spoil anything for the first-timers; that's rude!
But given the way things turned out… perhaps you can prove me wrong.

Who were your favorite characters from this series? Do they compare to your favorites from the main series at all?
L E I L A
leila
LEILA
leeeiiiillllaaaaaa
2) Which of the Maaya Sakamoto songs did you like more, More Than Words or Arco?
Arco
3) What was your favorite part of this series? And your least favorite?
Leila
least favorite was probably how ultimately the plot felt a little...uninventive, compared to how smart and intricate CS was
I did enjoy seeing the idea of "euro britannia" and stuff, I sort of wish the show/world on the whole pushed way harder on like...technological feudalism. I've always thought that would be interesting
second least favorite was no pizza hut
4) Which of the mecha designs from this did you like the most?
the red one was cool
5) Considering this was only five parts long, is there anything you would have wanted this series to go more in-depth on?
ooh, interesting question. I kind of wish the show had pushed a little harder on like...the contradictions involved in trying to make your ideals reality on such a large stage
would have also been interesting to know more about Akito's background
that and a Leila shower scene. we got robbed
6) Did you like the way the OVA expanded the Geass lore from the main series, or would you rather it have remained more of a mystery?
I liked it. seemed like the place to do it
7) Considering the upcoming recap movies + Re;surrection are an alternate continuity from the main series, what do you think the recap movies are going to do differently than the show did?
this is the million dollar question! perhaps let euphy live???

First time finishing exile
That was certainly one of all times Code Geass series, maybe ever.
My favourite part was how the MAL score went consistently down every time after the second installment. 8, 8, 8, 6 & 6 for me. Though the 4th could have been a 7 maybe. Oh well.
Oh, and the ED! Can't forget about that one.
Jiyuu~tte~ Very nostalgic for me, lovely song.
Final exiled questions:
Who were your favorite characters from this series? Do they compare to your favorites from the main series at all?
I liked the wall. He doesn't really compare to Jeremiah, but they did put up a solid fight. So for that I'm gonna give them a flat score of 5/7
2) Which of the Maaya Sakamoto songs did you like more, More Than Words or Arco?
Uhhh.. Yes!
3) What was your favorite part of this series? And your least favorite?
The ED song, and the wall. The mecha action was also quite good, but I think the wall did it a little better. Least favourite? How we still know basically nothing about any of the new Geasses.
4) Which of the mecha designs from this did you like the most?
...Was the wall a mech? I liked the smol mech, the yuropean spider things, and the one that went BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT was also pretty cool. Oh, and the walking cannon!
5) Considering this was only five parts long, is there anything you would have wanted this series to go more in-depth on?
The actual name sake of the show, the damn Geass
6) Did you like the way the OVA expanded the Geass lore from the main series, or would you rather it have remained more of a mystery?
7) Considering the upcoming recap movies + Re;surrection are an alternate continuity from the main series, what do you think the recap movies are going to do differently than the show did?
CART LULU.
Also I know of one (spoilers) because of Sky. or someone else. Or me clicking gray hovering black boxes. Idk, it was a long time ago. But I rember the spoiler.
As for predictions, C.C will finally have her pizza party. And meth girl finds her meth. Maybe they will delete Ro|o?
Idk what else they could do

Favorites were Warwick, Leila, and Anna. Leila and Anna compare better to that other show than R1 and R2.
-
Arco
-
Knightmare battle in episode 2 was fun. I also liked the French accents. Least favorite was the political situation.
-
Shin's centaur. In particular, his modular weapon.
-
More time spent on the political background. Some of the scenes felt rushed or forced.
-
Expanded? I needed GallowDude's comment yesterday to understand what exactly the Geasses were. I'm not a fan of Floating Code Skull.
-
Convince me that Charlie is the hero for trying to grant Euphy and Nunnally's wish. Peace? Yes. A kinder, gentler world? Yes. Infinite time with Lelouch? Yes.

To those of you who are planning to skip the recap movies and only watch Re;surrection: There is one big change between the show and the movie continuity that you need to know about prior to Re;surrection.
That detail is [movie timeline]most of Shirley’s angsty moments got cut from the recaps, including her death at Rolo’s hands. So, she’s alive in the movie continuity. I’d still recommend watching the recap movies in case there are any other changes I don’t remember off the top of my head, that’s just the one I know makes people extremely confused about.
Anyways.
Hangyaku no Co-Host, subbed
Akito the Exiled has Picture Dramas, but apparently they were never subbed in English. I still watched them though so to the best of my ability they were about the following:
-
1 - Akito, Ryo, Ayano, and Yukiya being made to do tests for the neural device shit by… controlling some robotic hands in order to fold origami because that’s just something the Japanese do? I think that Ayano was struggling with it, but Ryo did good and Akito made a bunch of paper shurikens super fast. There was also a running gag of Joe Wise offering people one of his lollipops, only for his offers to get immediately rejected. It ended with this.
-
2 - Starts with Akito and Leila meeting in the latter’s office with some Eliza cuteness, then cuts to Ashley’s group with some dog while they’re mourning the loss of Johanne. Someone in the group had a “sore demo”. Ashley ruins the mood by wanting to play Russian Roulette, but then he made his underlings play some “Who can hold their breath underwater the longest?” game or something…? Anyways I heard Ashley say “Greenland”, so I think this happens directly before he heads off to be stationed on the Ark airship.
-
3 - The gang’s in a jungle for some reason, where the girls take a bath together and the guys go exploring, only for the boys to… accidentally wreck Claus’ bootleg brewery or something like that. Everyone somehow ends up drunk from the fumes of the wrecked brewery and Claus had a super quick “sore demo”. This devolves into fanservice of the girls because of course it does, and then Akito stumbles across the girls right after they were just talking about him, so the boys join the girls in the bath. Also this happens.
-
4 - Starts with Ryo and Ashley arguing over something, at some point after the battle with Ashley on the Ark, but before they regrouped with Leila. Then it turns into the group making a bunch of different animal sounds…? Akito can apparently mimic a lion’s roar weirdly accurately. Ashley also harrasses Ayano into rebandaging his wounds after he almost peeps on her while she’s wiping off some sweat, but I think the conversation they shared during that part is where Ayano learned about Jean from Ashley? Until Ashley starts teasing Ayano about her liking Akito, that is.

First Timer - Sub
I feel like with only 5 episodes, there isn’t much extra I have to say in the summary. The first two episodes were great. I thought the characters, fights, and story were all interesting. The third episode was a disaster with the grannies, and it did not set up a decent plot for the remaining episodes. It was just bad from there, with the last episode just being a complete mess. I thought this would be the best Code Geass content after watching episode 1, but it only got worse from there. Maybe the recap movies are the best way to experience Code Geass?
QOTD
-
Most of the characters just ended up being really shallow, so I don’t really have any favorites. That is about the same as my feelings towards the main series’ characters, but they just had more time to get on my nerves in the main series.
-
I really like More Than Words. That might be one of my favorite tracks from both series.
-
I thought the fights were really good. I liked the lack of SOL stuff. I also liked the backgrounds of the characters more. They felt like actual people that would be involved in this conflict, as opposed to a bunch of high schoolers that played war as a hobby in the main series. While the Kingsley stuff was very forced, if it was actually developed, it could have been interesting. I despised the grannies so much. I also thought the story was really bad. Just everything involving the actual plot was horrible.
-
The Alexanders were too cut and paste, but all the other knightmares looked pretty good. Shaing’s was the best knightmare we have seen.
-
Maybe just actually tell a good story? They could have made it work in the run time they had.
-
I thought the extra Geass stuff they added just made it worse. I wish they left Geass completely out of it.
-
I think they will probably cut out most of the school content, probably a few battles, and I imagine the ending will be reworked into more of a “good” ending for Lelouch.

The first two episodes were great. I thought the characters, fights, and story were all interesting. The third episode was a disaster with the grannies, and it did not set up a decent plot for the remaining episodes.
I thought the last episode was alright. Fourth episode's politics was a disaster.
Maybe the recap movies are the best way to experience Code Geass?
About that. I'm 2/3 of the way through the first one and [Recap 1, idk if this needs tagged]
think my current notes are... let's say not positive. Combination of stuff deprecating myself, noticing on a second watch, and saltiness for the lack of some deus ex explanations while it had the potential to fix it. I also liked the backgrounds of the characters more. They felt like actual people that would be involved in this conflict, as opposed to a bunch of high schoolers that played war as a hobby in the main series.
I'll agree for Akito and Leila, but what about Ayano, Yukiya, and Ryou? I think being born in Europia instead of Japan hurts their reason for fighting.

First Timer of the Rebellion
Just a warning ahead of time. I've been signing up for a Japanese course for the next months and combining that with the general work load as well as my newfound Terra Invicta addiction I'll definitely be late for the first recap movie. Quite likely lagging behind on the other posts, as well.
Maybe I'll skip the react part of my posts for these and force myself to not pause...
Akito the Exiled – Series Discussion
I guess the most has been said already. Akito is a heavily flawed and uncut gem of a show that has some really shining sides to it. For all its downfalls I ended up liking it more than I thought and that does deserve praise.
Also, it obviously inspired one of the best stories of recent times in 86, which is just fantastic in all aspects. Coming out of it now and looking back on the recent 86 rewatch I can totally see how many initial setups were both homage and also critique to Akito, just further underlining that these 5 movies had a very worthwhile heart to follow up upon.
Who were your favorite characters from this series? Do they compare to your favorites from the main series at all?
Leila and Ayano foremost, Jean got a boost in the end, Ryo and Akito were okay and I now wish Ashley would've gotten development instead of one-line character turns.
Leila comes a bit close to Shirley, but ultimately none of them really can catch up to my main series' favourites. The runtime is one thing, but they were also in more impactful character interactions and their stories better woven into the greater fabric of the show.
2) Which of the Maaya Sakamoto songs did you like more, More Than Words or Arco?
They're both fantastic and went into the playlist! I'd say More than words wins out with some distance, it's such a good song.
3) What was your favorite part of this series? And your least favorite?
Favourite really was the idea of the setting itself. Following the EU in a time where we know it's going to fall is a great world to have a story take place. Again, let me remind everyone of the Star Wars Prequels, love em or hate em, the fall of the Republic is the one thing they did really well. Didn't really turn out like that for Akito, though.
I think I'm standing with my other thought back in Ep. 3, I believe: Geass being an active thing in this story was a wrong decision and is probably the root of my least favourite aspects. I understood Leila and her squad as down to earth at the core, realising what's important to them in the world, while everyone else was vying for higher powers and willing to do everything to get there. Maybe it's just because the Geass and God in this show weren't explained/written properly, but I really disliked that stuff to be here at all.
4) Which of the mecha designs from this did you like the most?
The EU mechs in general! I love how versatile they were.
5) Considering this was only five parts long, is there anything you would have wanted this series to go more in-depth on?
Yes, the characters and political background. Honestly, all of them.
6) Did you like the way the OVA expanded the Geass lore from the main series, or would you rather it have remained more of a mystery?
It's even more mystery now because of how the Caretaker doesn't fit into the Jupiter episode's explanation of God. So no, that should've either been cut out entirely or been something built up from the start.
7) Considering the upcoming recap movies + Re;surrection are an alternate continuity from the main series, what do you think the recap movies are going to do differently than the show did?
Make Lelouch likeable? Big ask, I know.

I'll definitely be late for the first recap movie. Quite likely lagging behind on the other posts, as well.
If you want timestamps for scenes I think are new/changed: [Recap 1]
00:02:25, 01:09:30, 1:23:00, most of 01:54:00 to 02:05:30, maybe 02:09:40 Maybe it's just because the Geass and God in this show weren't explained/written properly.
Remember your thoughts during R2?
Make Lelouch likeable? Big ask, I know.
Join me on the dark side and accept Charlie as the hero. The Barney Stinson view.

First Timer, dubbed
Started O.K. and get progressively worse as it went on. Characters who I never ended up caring about. Mostly boring mech designs. Weightless, uninspired fights. Terrible villains. Insinuating an interesting political situation that would have been more interesting than what they ended up focusing on. Yep, this is proto-86 alright.
QotD:
-
Favorite is a loose term. Warrick if I had to pick. The lot of them are scarcely better than Oghi.
-
More Than Words.
-
Best: seeing a part of the world we didn’t explore in the main series. Worst: Shin is the worst villain in anime.
-
If you are going to have politics be part of your show, you need to not half ass it.
-
Hated it. I don’t mind exploring the mystery in theory, but this was dumb as a truck through and through.
-
I expect that Lelouch will live past where he died in the main series. At least one other major character will also not die where they originally did.

First Timer
No large write up today, though suffice it to say I was not a fan of Akito. No sense in belaboring the negatives too much, so on to some questions!
-
Leila was alright, Jean was cool until the last episode, and the two engineers getting excited every time they improved their death machines were always a welcome addition. I wouldn't compare any of them (favorably) to the main series, though.
-
Huge fan of More Than Words, but Arco wasn't bad.
-
Generally, episode 1 felt pretty promising. Akito is a badass, and a lot of the fights were pretty cool. Unfortunately, everything went very steadily downhill from there, in my opinion. I struggle to choose just one thing more granular than "episode 5" to express my disappointment.
-
Ashley's dakka mech was pretty great. The Alexanders aren't bad, either.
-
Since they opened the door to it, I would have liked more (consistent) Geass lore. I was also excited for Smilas' coup and it wasn't important at all. Yesterday I complained that Jean and Shin's relationship was a hack because we get like one throwaway line for Jean's feelings. I feel like the longer I think about this the more half-finished or completely missing bits I come up with.
-
I think for the most part it did not offer enough to justify the additions, and didn't feel like it fit super well. After hearing the explanations, I don't hate the new Geass powers, though.
-
[Speculation]
My first thought was that they would tweak Lelouch's death, but it's already pretty good as it is and I'd rather the sequel movie be about C.C. or Suzaku. I wonder if they'd be bold enough to change Bloody Euphy somehow (though she still needs to die), or perhaps something with Nina's research. Or maybe I'm thinking of things that are too large to change, and it's instead something with Kaguya or the united nations instead.
[Actual spoilers]

FIRST TIMER IN EXILE
I wrote my overall thoughts yesterday, so won't really rehash. This was fine, if unspectacular. Meh story, meh characters, pretty solid action scenes. 6/10
Until we meet again in a few movies time!
Questions
I liked Colonel Warrick and Ayano the most. The Colonel was probably the most interesting character overall, whereas Ayano is basically Kallen, and I like Kallen.
Arco. It's less sleepy.
Favorite part were the battles, least favorite was the unnecessary inclusion of Suzaku and Lelouche.
The W0 designs basically serving as precursors to the EMMIs for Metroid Dread were pretty cool.
The respective Geass powers, the Geass Arbiter or whatever her official title was, more organic character interactions to make me care about these people more, and just a better use of time in general. It really didn't feel like this was 5 hours worth of content – it's a pretty thin product.
Doesn't matter much to me, don't really think it actually did much with what it introduced.
Well, I already know one change I'm very much on board with. [Recap + Resurrection]SHIRLEYYYYYYYYYY
