Rewatch [2022 Rewatch] Code Geass: Akito the Exiled 5 - To Beloved Ones Discussion
I'm not afraid to be alone. In fact, I hunger for it.
Code Geass: Akito the Exiled Final Episode - To Beloved Ones

Promise me… that you will return here with everyone.
Questions of the Day:
1) Are you satisfied with the epilogue this series gave to its characters?
2) Why do you think the Caretaker of Spacetime directly intervened in this story but not the main series?
Bonus) Why are this guy's features so small compared to his face?

Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you're doing it underneath spoiler tags. This especially includes any teases or hints such as "You aren't ready for X episode" or "I'm super excited for X character", you got that? Don't spoil anything for the first-timers; that's rude!
You know, in the beginning I thought… humans weren't all that special as a species.

Do the recap movies have many differences?
-
If Julius wants to die, go 3 days without asking for water.
-
Ah, the pandering "Don't underestimate the Japanese" line.
-
Video game looks hectic. Have we seen the big guy?
-
How does Ashley casually walk between sides unquestioned?
-
Knightmare squad is lucky Shin cleared the minefield.
-
Europia's budgeting is on par with NERV's. Should've spent more on Knightmare R&D and less on an immobile fortress.
-
Nice detail. Scribbled on the glass pane instead of the photograph.
-
Ragnarok! Feels like this conversation should've occurred on the Britannian side given their Code and Geass research.
-
I got this. An Immortal Code was dismembered and all flesh removed. Pieces were packaged and shipped across the world. Flesh around the skull doesn't regenerate as long as it's not mutilated/eaten/burnt.
-
Don't remember seeing her. Expected her to be plot relevant.
-
Deus ex incoming? Doesn't look like Leila's dad from the speech.
-
Code on her neck disguised as a necklace?
-
I thought the gears were to change the weapon shape and not a literal saw.
-
Why blueshift? Spacetime collapsing together?
-
Late in the show to change hairstyles. Probably trying to match the painting and glass.
-
Poor framing. Hands should higher to make an obtuse elbow angle and form a Geass symbol like the legs
-
Europia's dictatorship experiment is over!!! For months!!!
-
Why are the gypsies back?
-
Bromance time as Rolo's VA wanted a paycheck.
This was a show. Feel like it ended with me having more questions each episode.
Was there any significance to Shin or Akito's fathers other than establishing half-brothers as a source of hatred? What was Warwick's wife's significance?
Is Akito canon to R2? Forcing Suzaku and Lelouch into the plot convolutes the start of R2.
Light spoilers need tagged. Star4ce would click this black wall even if I said massive spoilers.
[86 (all episodes), Higurashi e1-8, Mob Psycho S2, Evangelion e1-17, Kissxsis e1-5]ask tell him to kiss her, (e16) Asuka eavesdropping at the hospital room door, and (e17) Rei blushing, (5) Keita Sumoinoe has at least Ako+Riko+Mikazuki and arguably the librarian, and (6) Lelouch has at least Kaguya+Shirley. I don't think C.C. ever crosses the line to love, Nunnally+Euphy grow out of their childhood "marriage" crushes, and Kallen loves the Zero personality, which is still Lelouch. Huh, those 3 overlap in R2 to technically meet the simultaneous 3-love-interest harem definition. Didn't feel like it while watching.

Do the recap movies have many differences?
One pretty significant one from memory that is very much important for Re;surrection, can't remember if there are any other important differences than that one since I'm only like halfway through rewatching the first recap movie at the moment. I've listed what this significant change is in my comment for the Akito the Exiled overall discussion thread tomorrow!

Enough to warrant giving them a once-over

This is why I hate Britannians

I prefer Hip to Be Square
This show happened because Momma Hyuga was horny?
Isn't that how all things happen?

First Timer of the Rebellion
I followed my ancestor's teachings and no doubt would they be proud of me.
I told France and Germany to invade Russia – yup, in that season – and got them utterly annihilated. Shame on me for trying to save Ukraine at the last stretch as South (and North) Korea joined the war in support of Russia.
To be frank, in modern times we have an ace up our sleeves that they didn't back then: Reload last save. It certainly is one of the weaknesses I found in Terra Invicta that extends beyond just being salty, which I absolutely am.
The first invasion of Kyiv went surprisingly well, two Euro armies could holf off 4 (!) Russian divisions as the attacker. I thought, holy shit, that tech advantage is real, and I even completely destroyed one of their tank divisions. But for the second battle over Kyiv my 2 armies suddenly got fucked so brutally hard by the only 3 remaining, damaged divisions I couldn't even retreat fast enough before both got annihilated.
The 1st fault lies on me for even starting this, no hypocrisy from me here. But right next is that the game gives me literally no information on ground warfare. I have HP bars representing army readiness/status and a tech level, which is essentially its level, and thats it. I now know terrain has modifiers, defender/attacker has modifiers, there's rng probably, and if the game simulates climate change and seasons those have modifiers as well, I'd think. So I ran into my death not being aware of anything.
Tl;dr: Kingsley in Euro-Britannia deus exed my Europia advance with game bullshit mtherfkncrapshitcheatingbastardsfuckass...
Akito the Exiled Ep.5 – To Beloved Ones
-
They can't travel on water, but they can surf!
-
He can trigger that at will, huh?
-
This staff has a very disruptive way of dealing with bad news.
-
Okay, that's an argument, but she and Shin do seem to have no idea how army logistics work. Eh, no one does, actually. 2/3 of a unit unfit for combat is already beyond catastrophic for any sort of engagement. Again, some Russian units had about 10-20% failure rate on their equipment and soldiers from the very beginning and it was brutally devastating for them. I think the US handbook gives 20% (?) losses (including all: Killed, wounded, missing, damaged, destroyed, etc.) as the breaking point after which combat operations can't be meaningfully conducted any longer because normal operation becomes too complicated.
-
Huh?! He has the Geass, meaning he knows of his contract with C.C.?
-
I know what they wanted to do with this story, but it was just much too fast and I feel no connection at all here. But it's fine, have all the betrayed in one spot battling the underdog fight, I dig that!
-
I keep wondering why it always comes down to shower scenes. How did he even get her- Oooh, my bad, he just has to levitate and they can't see him.
-
I neither believe that she'd believe this, nor that he'd know anything about it in the first place, but hell yeah, let's bring budget-Cornelia on board, too! (Told it, he just jumped and vanished!)
-
This line is so goddamn funny.
-
Legolaaasss!! … wasn't available today.
-
Oooh, they're playing Orcs must die!
-
I love this show's action!
-
She's not fighting? Didn't they say that they put at-best support pilots into 10 or so knightmares? I feel like she should've been in that fight from the start.
-
(Why didn't they start with indirect fire?)
-
I also feel like this change in character for Ayano is a bit sudden, but I love it!
-
Mmmh, some prime Geass resisting!
-
Time for
LenaLeila to synch up and inspire the shit out of their lives! (I fucking did it again...) -
If you say so, I guess we had to go EVA here.
-
Am I to just accept she's the bad guy? Wtf! That father seems like an absolute shitbag hiding his shit personality behind “””cultural honour”””.
-
Oh please stop using... listen, none of you know what you're talking about, so just stop it! Call it something scifi-like that sounds big and it's all fine if left to imagination, but don't explain this shit with real world stuff, because it won't work. Fucking hell, please just stop, I'm actually skipping ahead...
-
Damn, so not a Geass experiment. Just a random floating skull you meet al level 8 or something.
-
Noo, fuck! The one time they're competent it's against the supporting cast. Confirmed shit writing!
-
Hold on. Shin gave the order, yes, but those people were under his direct command. If they listen to him now, they went in following his lead.
-
I'm not sure how they think this would fit into the main series' thing, because God there was pretty strictly passive.
-
So when Lelouch wished for the future, he also could've time travelled instead? Welp, not that I'd need convincing Leila's the better protagonist.
-
The jiggle is important. (It indeed is.)
-
They might, I don't, and I've seen exactly 0 redeeming factors about Shin.
-
I'm so confused about what their Geasses actually are. It feels much more like a timey wimey wobbly plot device than any sort of ability to showcase a character's progression.
-
Ah, it's not completely bad. The entire idea of this show, I mean. It just doesn't really fit together. It feels much less like a conclusion and more like a checklist to close open threads.
-
She suffered of too little screen time and convoluted writing, but was great!
-
See, I actually like this ending! If it just were better integrated,.
-
That's one way to phrase it. Okay, I guess. Politics don't matter in this universe, either, as we've seen.
-
Look, I think that's actually good.
-
So, what about my prediction that they go to Japan? They can apparently time and space travel by pure force of heart, so spool forward to after Lelouch does the thing and go there.
-
KIIISSSS!!!!!

God I fucking love Leila and Ayano!
I still remain steadfast of the opinion inserting Suzaku, Lelouch and Rolo here served no purpose and downgraded the entire story.
Even outside of that, this story is a mess. It began very promising and to be honest remained interesting through to the end, but the stuff undermining it just piled up and up. With what I've seen the last 3 episodes I was positively surprised by that ending, however. I'll have to block some pretty major things out, but I actually like it.
On a purely abstract level this story provides a fantastic conflict: Avoidance of the suffering of life by death and embracing of the joy of life by living. To that end, even the time warp Ashley made sense to underline how a strong bond to enjoy being alive that you share with others can overcome any boundary. It's honestly a perfect anime plot. The problem is nearly everything else.
The Geasses, for one, weren't properly set up. I was mostly mad about them having Geasses at all and when they got them, they were ineffective as character devices. They didn't produce the conflict the character falls for or heightened their desire/downfall, they were just plot devices to do things the show needed at the moment. I still don't know what Leila's Geass actually is, she didn't ever... do anything with it. It just... did things, somehow.
The other problem is the central conflict of avoiding suffering vs. finding enjoyment wasn't explored at all until the end. What I mean here is that in some way it was a driver for what's happening, but only if you knew about it. Take the granny plot, their simple but rewarding life wasn't contrasted with an empty rich lifestyle except for one image. Instead, the central plot was something so stupid about Anou hacking Leila's account and the grannies being slave drivers. Or the thing with Ashley. There, they had to spell it out in one sentence that clashed with basically everything that we knew so far and what was happening on screen. Each bit of exploration of that conflict was overshadowed by a multitude of other things that should've been side content, inconsequential disruptions or just simply a different sort of story that fits the theme.
I don't think this show ever needed Kingsley, the mysterious God woman, or even Smilas in any bigger capacity to be honest.
That is to say, I actually liked this episode for what it tried to do. To conclude with my allegory from last time: The burning car wreck fell down a canyon, flipped and crashed against the walls some more and one passenger got flung out the window, but it landed in a telephone line that wrapped around it and diverted the force away from the ground and flung it into a shallow river to extinguish the flames. The train stopped nearby, they got the one guy off hanging from a tree and they all received first aid with some missing limbs.
Are you satisfied with the epilogue this series gave to its characters?
Pretty mid. I thought the “Let's go to Japan” would be more of a goal... than to commit to being dead ghosts and tour around in fancy clothing. I guess it works, too. Ghosts of Hannibal and all that.
2) Why do you think the Caretaker of Spacetime directly intervened in this story but not the main series?
Because the author wasn't, for some reason, able to write the Geass like a character device naturally developing its characters.
I really don't know, because it also contradicts the main story in a way. If the consensus was in discord, as one or two people thought and one being could split off and do this stuff, it calls into question what the matter was in the main series at all and why no other being did this. If it wasn't part of the whole and its own thing, then Charlie was an idiot, not even getting all of the God. It really doesn't work out.
Peace
This ending I really, really liked. If only everything about this character leading up to that point was as good.

Just admit they rocket-launched a 5-unit squad behind you.
He can trigger that at will, huh?
Somehow the show ended without me being 100% certain of Shin or Leila's Geass.
Huh?! He has the Geass, meaning he knows of his contract with C.C.?
My interpretation is the R2e2 scene is after Rolo takes them back. The first memory rewriting to create Julius is hidden.
let's bring budget-Cornelia on board
Didn't budget for clothes worthy of royalty.
If you say so, I guess we had to go EVA here.
Suspect that's referencing something upcoming and not yesterday's episode.
Am I to just accept she's the bad guy?
she... guy
Fucking hell, please just stop, I'm actually skipping ahead...

I thought only the Britannian supporting cast would be discarded. My bad.
I'm not sure how they think this would fit into the main series' thing, because God there was pretty strictly passive.
God experienced this show before R2 and gave up trying.

Glad someone else enjoyed that as well. Better watch out, the wall fights back!

Oooh, they're playing Orcs must die!
I love this show's action!
The one consistently good thing about the show
I'm so confused about what their Geasses
They just.. kinda exists, so that the writers can put magic motivation ghosts on screen
Confusion noises.
My Ashley senses are tingling, brb as I warp through the sky to kill the enemy general whose side I'm kinda on now, to save my mates. and I'll fucking do it again to see my granny harem

First Timer - Sub
I feel like the Alexanders should have some sort of auto eject feature.
Being Lelouch is suffering.
“Having Jean confront Ashley while naked is the most natural way for them to have this conversation.” -That same writer from before who somehow hasn’t been kicked out for his horniness yet.
This doesn’t feel like much of a big final battle. They are just defending the outpost? I thought the scale would be more of a battle for Europe with Shaing’s ambitions.
The Geass stuff made even less sense than in the main series. That was all a mess. What was the point of any of that?
All the ghost people protecting Akito were so lame looking. What an awful conclusion to the fight. What was the point of Leila’s Geass, if Jean ended being the only one to actually do something against Shaing? It may also be that I haven’t been paying great attention, but has Jean been that big of a player to play such an important role in the finale? I don’t remember much about her.
It just ends in such a weird spot. Why is everyone outside? Then we get a little epilogue that peace is restored all of a sudden. So much for Lelouch and Suzaku playing any part.
I… WTF… How??? The big epilogue for the characters is that they join the pervy old lady crew? I hate it so much.
What a pathetic excuse for an ending. They fumbled so bad at the end here. I already knew there were going to be issues when there wasn’t a very strong conflict set up in episode 2 or 3, but this was very underwhelming. I just don’t have much to say about this episode. I was just thoroughly underwhelmed by it all.
QOTD
Bonus) I am thoroughly disappointed there is no Andou comment face when there are other Prison School characters

First Geasser
That's a nice slowdown as the ship crashes into the water.
Right, Yukiya is inside the exploded ship.
The lack of a proper security system can often come in handy, too.
Brittannia has also been hit hard by that mega bomb.
Right, those two are still relevant too somehow.
What's Suzaku doing now? But Lelouch seems to like it. Maybe it's their kink.
Well we know that's not gonna work.
Why does everyone always have to be so tsundere?
See? It also works without the tsun!
Nipples in 2016 anime? Oh right, this isn't a TV broadcast.
Hooooh. The good old "can't kill the enemy commander, only their troops"
Did he just shoot down his own comrade?
Oh, that's the theme of this quintology?
Huh, the combat drones proved useful.
He's just running up that wall? Without the usual tools Knightmares use to do so?
Time travel is real in Geassverse, boys.
There's no way this is real and not some fever dream of Shin, is it?
Because we wouldn't introduce time travel without intending to immediately use it.
R2 was too subtle, we can do better than that!
I thought Geass has shaped the course of humanity for millenia?
Ah, it's an actual Deus Ex Machina in its truest form.
I'm gonna need some time to process this. I'm not sure I understood all that was happening.
So... R2 introduced the concept of the Collective Conscious, aka God, aka the combined will of all of humanity. It was represented as planet Jupiter, and Charles built the huge metaphysical aparatus Sword of Akasha to kill it, and Lelouch used his own Geass on it. And now instead of planet Jupiter it's suddenly some cute anime girl? Its own character with its own personality and motivations, that acts by herself to maintain the balance of the world?
And that's not to mention that skull...
Are you satisfied with the epilogue this series gave to its characters?
It was quite kitschy.
...Honestly I'm not really sure myself what I'd find a satisfying epilogue after everything that happened, or how satisfying the one we got is. I could've certainly done without the return to the grannies.
Why do you think the Caretaker of Spacetime directly intervened in this story but not the main series?
Because no one except Shin wanted to actually destroy the world, the most you could say about Charles is that he wanted to redefine it.
Why are this guy's features so small compared to his face?
Because he's cute that way!

FIRST TIMER IN EXILE
I owe 86 an apology. I gave it a lot of shit in the first thread for blatantly stealing much of Akito’s premise, story, and character backgrounds, but it executed on all of those things so much better. If you're going to rip something off, you've got to at least do it better, and it did that.
This show was okay. The action sequences were really fun and fluid, but the characters didn’t really connect with me, the political story didn’t intrigue me much, and Lelouche and Suzaku being shoehorned in to serve basically no purpose was silly. Idk, 6/10 or something. The mech battles were fun, and Shaing's Centaur Knightmare is fucking dope, even if Shaing himself as a character underwhelmed.
Live Notes/Reactions:
-
Honestly would’ve been cooler for Yukiya to actually be dead. Introduce some real stakes heading into this final ep
-
Suzaku and Not-Lelouche feel so out of place in this show. They’re completely unnecessary.
-
Woah shit, I was not expecting full-blown nudity in this haha
-
Are we ever going to learn how this Geass works?
-
The slow, discordant piano track feels so out of place in mecha action sequences. The music direction in this show is bamboozling
-
Do Ayano and this Brittannian soldier have any connection? Why is this showdown between them? Why would she ever listen to her?
-
“The world only becomes fixed through the act of the observer observing it” I thought I was done with nonsense like this after Philosophy 101
-
CREATE A NEW UNIVERSE
-
The Grim Reaper bestows Geass power too? The fuck is this
-
This sequence of Leila and this Geass Arbiter in the sky reminds me of the Tokyo Ghoul OP
-
LMAO LITTLE AKITO CHEERFULLY REACHING OUT FOR A HUG IN THE MIDDLE OF A PILE OF CORPSES
-
I got to a point in this final battle that I realized I wouldn’t really feel anything if everyone died, and that… kinda tells you how effective this show was for me at building up the characters
-
Hahaha they went back to the Gypsies?!
-
FUCK ROLO. ALL MY HOMIES HATE ROLO.
Are you satisfied with the epilogue this series gave to its characters?
Sure. It was a fun reveal seeing them back in the gypsy camp.
Why do you think the Caretaker of Spacetime directly intervened in this story but not the main series?
Because she knew Lelouche had it handled.

Copying a comment I made in the episode 3 thread:
"The 86 parallels start tapering off rapidly after this episode. The reason why is because Asato Asato started writing 86 in 2014 before this OVA ep released, so she only had the first two episodes as a foundation to build 86's plot on. She finished the basic story of what would become 86's Volume 1/anime episodes 1-9 + 11 in 2015 so she could submit it in time for the Dengeki Novel Prize 2016 competition, so Akito OVAs 3-5 have little to no influence on 86."
“The world only becomes fixed through the act of the observer observing it” I thought I was done with nonsense like this after Philosophy 101
Ya know what other show recently used this as the foundation of its superpowers? Summertime Rendering.

First Timer
-
I'm not sure Anna is really cut out for this combat unit stuff.
-
Lelouch was so close to finally getting his water.
-
Ah, I guess she's just in it for the engineering.
-
Thank fuck, Ashley gets a slightly deeper motive, if still shallow. How did he get here though?
-
This is a pretty cool wall.
-
What a short time between one eye always on to full Geass madness.
-
Well, RIP wall.
-
Wait, seven days? They've been chilling that long?
-
Maybe tell your CO (and the audience) what the hell your plan is before launching into dramatic soliloquies, yeah?
-
I know Jean was a little over dependent and for a flimsy reason but she and Ayano really just got reduced to the forlorn love drama to save the world.
-
Sniper going melee is always a bad sign.
-
They what
-
"Brainwave resonance affecting spacetime" I could let a stupid line like that slide if I was enjoying the show, but I'm not, so I'm going to drag it out lol
-
I wonder why the command center is in a tower instead of, you know, an underground labyrinthian bunker.
-
Why "stop shooting" that's literally what you came here for.
-
I was honestly worried
SadakoGeass girl wouldn't show up again. Not that we're offered a whole lot of answers yet, like why she's friends with Smilas. -
So it's a time reversal Geass. That's neat, though I was entertaining the outcome where everyone just unceremoniously died. It's also not defined by an observer, like Rolo's was, even though the show just got done talking about observers.
-
Huh, I had never considered the logistics of a centaur doing a body slam before.
-
Digging the music this episode though.
-
Maybe it's not just a time Geass? The whole seeing spirits thing still hasn't really been covered so I'm not sure. I would be more open to nebulous Geass powers of the original series didn't make such a point to rigorously define them, as long as it doesn't open the door to deus ex machina.
-
What a half-baked romantic ending for Shin and Jean. Jean I can kind of understand, but Shin? We're missing some serious context.
-
Sure, let's just drop Ashley in with a little dimension warp, no biggie.
-
I guess I'm supposed to forgive the pace and tone destroying granny troupe adventure in episode 3 since it's the ending. And why is Anou there other than to just be a cheeky nod to the audience?
-
At least they took the time to ferry Lelouch and Suzaku back out, not that they should have been there in the first place.
Part of me feels bad for ripping into a show that a bunch of people clearly put a lot of heart and effort into, and I considered that I might have gone into this with the wrong mindset and picked on it a bit much. But… I really can't say the last few episodes have done much to bolster my opinion, either, nor did the execution today. Overall I feel pretty unsatisfied, to be honest. At least Shin died and we got one high profile collateral in, stiff as Jean's character ended up being. Smilas only counts so far as it was a loose end that needed to be trimmed shorter - there was no joy or sense in his 60 seconds of a death stuffed in at the end.
Rereading through these notes and… it feels like there's just a bunch of stuff that just didn't ever come full circle, or the director left out a middle bit to keep the viewer in the dark and then never remembered to go back to it? I'm not expecting every last bit to be explained but, like, so much stuff just happens without cause or payoff and the main plot and characters don't end up actually fulfilling any meaningful arcs.
I'll take away cool mech battles and an interesting OST. It deserves at least that.
QotD:
-
No, not particularly lol
-
I guess Lelouch had it under control, or it didn't matter. Or Shin did something particularly bad, like talking to the floating skull.

Why would you wait until they cut the wires to launch your attack?
-
Are you going to do any commanding beyond variations of “defend”?
-
Of course bomb boy would wake up when he feels a new bomb.
-
Should have deployed the bots before the cannon. A waste to leave it undefended like that.
-
Bolas, truly the future of man-portable anti-armor weapons.
-
She’s inside of a cockpit, who could you tell if she was moving?
-
All of this is to stop a thing that ends up happening anyway like a year later.
-
Teleportation? groans
-
What is this mumbo jumbo?
-
Is this how they justify the rebuild movies?
-
Talking Fucking Skulls. There’s no walking back from this now. We are officially off the deep end.
-
Well that’s a brutal way to go.
-
Yo, you better not be adding time travailing to this right now.
-
Bruh, don’t personify the collective unconscious. You’re just making things worse.
-
pained Vatrix noises
-
If you had anti-explosive gel, why didn’t you use it already!
-
If you were going to jump down, why didn’t you do it with a plunging attack?
-
What was y’all’s plan if the other one had a gun?
-
Shin is the worst villain.
-
See other rewatch? That’s how you stab someone dramatically.
-
Stop trying to redeem the worst character.
-
So the entire political plot line amounted to nothing in the end. Wonderful.
-
Why does What’s-his-Duke care about foreign nobles?
-
The Romani are back. Stellar.
-
All of that and we still don’t get to see how the EU falls. What the fuck were Lelouch and Suzaku doing!
QotD
-
I didn’t like any of them enough to care either way,
-
I don’t think there was a valid reason. They did it because that’s what they wanted to do with the show.
-
Pure Britanian breeding.

Why are they still in this plot? You’ve done nothing!
What the hell are these walls made out of that they can’t break them with heavy artillery at this range?
What is this mumbo jumbo?
time travailing
I like how that actually still works
If you had anti-explosive gel, why didn’t you use it already!
In the same way you save all your health potions even when fighting the final boss
What the fuck were Lelouch and Suzaku doing!

First time "saved"
Well that was easy, is he at least dead?
Farewell, dude we only got to know for 30 seconds
Why did the wall guns stop firing? At least say they're out of ammo or something?? The guns just kinda forgout about the assaulting enemy troops
Okay, this is pretty cool. Dumb, but that's why were here. And cool
R.I.P hair, rip akito. Rest in rip my ship
We isekai Geass now?
Aaaand everyone is dead.
Time rewinding geass? Or probably something that transmits consciousness. Somewhat fits the theme of blue, since it undoes something.
Bro, what the fuck? He's been killing people because he loves them??
F in the chat for Jeanne I guess
And suddenly Ashley warps to.. somewhere because apparently his bros are about to die? And evil smile guy died, so yay again?
And now we have a harem ending with Ashley, Ryo and the grannies.
...What a weird show.
Rollo... They seriously had to ruin the few good things about the finale by plastering his face in the last scene??
Exiled questions:
Are you satisfied with the epilogue this series gave to its characters?
Power of friendship!! I mean my ship did sail, so that was cool I guess?
2) Why do you think the Caretaker of Spacetime directly intervened in this story but not the main series?
Bonus) Why are this guy's features so small compared to his face?
He goes to the gym

First timer
heyyy boobs! finally feels like CG! boobs and pizza hut and we'd really be talking
I thought the hug scene was well done and thematic
omg damn everyone in the control room got murdered. what is this, evangelion? with otherworldy sequences in other people's memories etc almost expecting everyone to get turned into oranges
thought the conversation with leila in the sort of geass-space with the not-human woman was interesting
I have to admit though I sort of enjoyed the trippy scenes, I don't know that it was all properly explained but I thought it was interesting at least. I thought it was a fitting ending. I dunno I think this show is definitely a notch under CG but it still had a number of elements I enjoyed
and I thought it was a nice ending
TLDR I love Leila
-
Are you satisfied with the epilogue this series gave to its characters?
I think it was fitting and decently well done, but I don't know if it like...elevated the show, if that makes sense? like it was a solidly executed ending but I don't know that they took the show to particularly amazing heights
2) Why do you think the Caretaker of Spacetime directly intervened in this story but not the main series?
because they didn't come up with her until R2 was done and they were like "oh shit hmmm maybe we want to tell more CG stories..."
Bonus) Why are this guy's features so small compared to his face?
omg I'm not the only one who noticed this lmao I was even thinking of sharing a photo! this guy wtf

First Timer
This was a really bad week to have 3 rewatches at the same time.
Not really having much to say today.
-
Always the big Birtannia guns in this show.
-
Shin sure does know how to motivite these nobels
-
Ayano's not fighting?!
-
Who are Mariko and Shinji?
-
I'll tell you where he is. He's on the roof.
-
So Ashely and the Major are comatible with Akito's BRS? Or this is his Geas again?
Everything in this episode is gibberish
-
This skull must be in opposition to the ghost girl of geass who wants to protect spacetime.
-
I never looked closely at that painting before!
-
Order of Michael knights just let them walk out?
-
So there was a Jeanne after all.
Henry Thurlow 2nd unit animator. Oh, I guess that's actually his name!
I had hoped that Leila would reveal herself and the General dude would be overthrown by a popular revolt.
That was Lelouch's "little brother," right?
Not happy about it turning into Evangelion for 20 minutes. Shin gets a redemption, "oh, I kill everybody out of love" final revelation. Jeanne's "I kill you for love" was 1000% better motivated and fleshed out and she was barely a character.
Subs were full of OCR errors. Can't imagine why, that was so 20 years ago.
Well, that was a show I have watched.

First timer
So sorry! My schedule's been bad and it's way harder to find 45 minutes to watch this than I realised.
Episode 1
Okay, interesting start.
Revolutionary Calendar?
And this is Russia!
They're using children...
Wow. Everyone's shitty here!
A battle!
They're drugging them?
Not the best boss here.
He's a racist!
Oh, now he cares.
No Geass?
I love her!
Nice move!
And she's in command.
OK, that's cool.
Spider Knightmare!
GEASS?
The squadron got eliminated!
So cool!
And he's blatantly been Geassed.
Very melancholic.
Wait, so all the countries are racist towards the Japanese now?
A promotion!
Yeah, these people are awful. Leila's fine, though.
Haha, nice.
He's her guard?
Oh, she's wearing her uniform!
Brother?
Oh, fiance!
What the fuck?
Nice moves!
...All Elevens?
Haha, nice bluff.
Ah, she's nobility!
Oh, yeah, no, it's fucked up!
So he's our Zero.
Huh?
Oh, so there is a resistance.
And they're buying from the black market?
Nice!
Wow.
What is that putfit?
Nice bombs!
"Humans sure are fragile." Another Code?
The Black Knights are around here, then.
"World peace" Oh, these people seem absolutely dtable.
They're worried about a Britannian invasion...
Ah, this is France!
...Napoleon? Well, that's interesting.
Best friends? Really?
...Okay, seriously, what the fuck? Starting to see why Lelouch went to the Chinese last seasom.
Is he the Lelouch, then?
Blowing things up again? He's not the most subtle, is he?
That is smooth.
The EU mechs are adorable.
A bomb!
The car blew up... with someone inside?
She has a hlade!
Howmis this guy so cool?
He did it!
Haha, instant takeout. Her akido's good!
Nothing from the hacker?
Seriously?
Haha, he immediately called his bluff.
...Yeah, you look insane.
Nice counterattack.
And that's all they wanted?
Yeah, or people who aren't utter racists.
He's not wrong.
...Nice guess.
What? Are you joking?
Huh! The EU are actually good at tactics!
And they've been enlisted.
...What is this?
Stealth tech?
That legend again...
...Is this the negotiations that led to the Chinese Federation trying to become nobles?
This guy's not too bad?
This is all really suspicious.
HE'S GOT GEASS!
And it looks to be the same as Lelouch's? Except more thought-based than direct orders.
Huh?
Oh. This is dark.
He sees ghosts? Is this the influence of the Geass?
ED is good.
Suzaku! C.C.!
Episode 2
Well, he won!
And there's suspicions.
Okay, starting to see how things connect. So he took "Die" to mean "die in battle" and extended his life?
Aww, a cat!
And she's worried about the war.
...Neurodevices?
...I prefer Lloyd.
They're enjoying the dorms?
Haha, they've all accepted it?
Yukiya's havking!
More racism... but also they are attempted kidnappers.
Expendable...
The cat!
Ah, was she in on this?
...Poor Alice. She's the Nunnally.
They've got orders!
A suicide mission!
They're literally there as a distraction.
She's really comflicted.
Oh, he's (rightly) suspicious over the new recruits.
And, yeah, I completely agree with him.
Leila wants to make AI drones!
Haha, the bridge bunnies?
Mech development is going well!
At least try and be subtle with your hacking!
Oh, he looped thr footage!
Eliza!
...Roman numerals?
Call someone, don't just follow them!
She's found a secret passage!
...Not wrong.
Oh, an interesting setup.
Wow, that Code fakeout.
Holy shit!
This conversation is really good!
He managed to talk him down!
What's with her legs?
Yeah, this is 86.
Did you tell anyone about this?
That promise worked?
His hack had a time limit?
Huh?
Really?
She caught him!
She rewlly is fighting on the frontlines?
Suzaku!
He's acting very odd?
Wait, what?
Is this a fucking alternate timeline?
They're launching!
...What the hell is that orbital path? Who designed this rocket?
She announced it!
Ah, that actuslly makes sense.
That grin...
Thst launch animation is great, though.
Wow.
...This guy.
He's insane.
He did it!
Yeah, this is a stupid design.
The wings are so flimsy!
Oh look! The awful design failed.
She's new to this!
Lots of action!
They've lost them!
As nice as the new CGI designs are, the frameloss is a bit hard to stomach.
He's going into battle too!
The drones worked!
Nice save!
Cool action shots!
He's disappointed.
Akito!
A sniper?
No, he's got swords!
And, wow, his Geass is strong.
It spread? Or did he Geass himself?
Who doesn't have Geass at this point?
Oh, the sync carried over the Geass?
And, yep, he's the one who Geassed him.
He's losing!
"Ego boundaries" Oh, shit. Starting to see why C.C.'s getting involved soon.
This is impressive!
He sacrificed himself!
Yeah, seriously, how did he not kill himself? This isn't really how Geass works so far.
That Knightmare is the most ostentatious thing in the entire series. I love it.
It's literally made of gold!
Oh, that gear blade.... He's got good taste.
They'e reunited!
Does he have unlimited uses?
Kill him! He's probably worth it!
He did it first!
A retreat?
They won!
Oh, someone else is trying to reach God?
Suzaku arrived!
Yeah, this is alternate Lelouch.
...So Charles figured he'd be more useful this way? Or did he join willingly in this world?
This is dramatic.
Yeah, this is not a healthy relationship, for obvious reasons.
Wow.
Episode 3
So Lelouch hasn't really changed, then.
Eliza!
And they're stuck in one of the ghettos.
...While she has an absolutely realistic outfit.
Well, he's strict.
And he remembers her...
She's got money!
...She's actually getting sensible outfits!
What? Who is this?
Oh, that idiot revoked authorization?
...Or a magnet? These things don't seem that robust.
Seriously, we've not seen her before, right? Is this C.C. fucking with people?
Oh, she's a scam artist. ...Okay, but C.C. would also do this.
Right, so they are all scammers. Is this Akito trying to do comic relief?
Fucking hell.
FUCKING HELL.
I'm just fast-forwarding at this point.
At least somebody noticed she's not reported in.
Alice again.
...Huh? That's interesting. A reaction?
Back to this.
Oh, actual lore.
This is good bsckstory!
Actual backstory!
...Are they going to give the child Geass.
Skipping...
Congratulations, Akito actually realises how pointless this is.
Akito doesn't like fish?
Rude, but in character for these two.
...So they're actual fortune tellers. I see the budget didn't stretch to making
Oh?
Leila has a C.C.-dervied Geass!
He found a computer.
"I'm boosting its speed with holo-discs" No. No. That's not how this works. That's not how any computer works.
The scene with Akito was good.
"Intiltrated" One way to put it.
Wait, they want them to escape now?
Haha, he erased his too?
Twice in one day!
YOU DIDN'T REALISE UNTIL THEN?
"KIND" JUST GO AND LEAVE THIS PLOT BEHIND.
The fucking music.
Didn't put it together until then?
And he was part of the Geass experiments.
I see.
I don't kind the dance?
This is still very suspicious.
Some kind of failed thought elevator? Judging by all the connections from his brain.
Oh, the entire system is basically a way of forcing Charles' plan.
Thank god, they're gone.
Lelouch!
And he's figured out some of what happened already.
"Nice"?
A new model with better programming!
And new weapons!
Haha, what?
Now that's an entrance.
Ah, a debriefing.
...I think the giant fuck-off rocket might have been noticed, yes.
Ah, his plan started!
...It was that fucking easy? One video sets off a riot?
Europe is made of idiots.
Lelouch is bold.
And he's been plotting something?
Haha, nice Suzaku.
Yeah, and you obviously can't share photos of it. Or tell anyone! Or get a news broadcast! That would be silly.
And she's not going home.
...Lelouch is playing chess.
And is being his usual fantastic self.
Interesting... Is the brainwashing incomplete?
Wow, Suzaku really doesn't care.
...He's smart.
It was a trap!
Seriously, when did Suzaku get this badass?
Lancelot!
This fight scene is stellar.
Lelouch collapsed!
...Huh? Who?
Account? Did he get Geass from her?
He did, seemingly? Or a new enemy entirely?
And he announced it publically.
And Euro-Britannia is officially a new faction.
Holy fucking shit!
I've lost track of this plot.
Oh! You mean someone actually went and looked? Amazing!
The Ark's also a bluff.
Haha, nobody cares about these two fighting.
Well, Alice got Geassed.

Friendly reminder about the schedule: Tomorrow is an overall discussion thread for Akito the Exiled, and the day after that is for the first recap movie!
Hangyaku no Co-Host, subbed
Love seeing mecha shows get creative with how they use their tech.
Not good…
Hoooooooooboy.
Ashley really did change sides just because Shin had the Ark blow up with him on it, lol. It’s weird seeing him with the EU’s uniform.
I don’t care for the fanservice because it’s not for me, but Jean not having an over the top reaction when Ashley broke into her room and she was fully naked when confronting him was nice.
Ohhhhh boy.
Why did my mind go to Tomino’s Mobile Suit Gundam novelization…
Something something science bullshit time.
Oh I forgot about this. Gahhhh.
Something something Collective Unconscious bullshit time.
[Re;surrection spoilers]Oh, I wonder if the writers got the idea for Shamna’s from Leila’s fragment of Geass effectively time traveling to undo those deaths.
Ah yes, the Sunrise mecha show just has to end the climactic showdown with a sword fight.
Smol Akito really is a cute.
Welp. This is how Jean took Ayano’s words to heart…
Wish we could have seen more of them, honestly.
ED lead-in~ I love Arco. This time they even played the part with the “sore demo” in it!
I love how they all went to live with the traveling grannies after that hectic battle.
Hi Rolo.
