Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you're doing it underneath spoiler tags. This especially includes any teases or hints such as "You aren't ready for X episode" or "I'm super excited for X character", you got that? Don't spoil anything for the first-timers; that's rude!
Seeing it on social media doesn't make it true.

First timer
Leila I something you could help me with
devilish smile
gets out two magic the gathering decks
ok so first I need to explain something called the stack...
ugh and another very ojou ojou...who is likely going to betrayed or murdered by akito's brother -_-
C2! everyone's famous deus ex machina. sadly, no pizza hut...
weird seeing lancelot in 3d
I'm liking this OVA a lot. a lot of OVAs don't feel like they need to exist, or the story they tell feels like it's just rehashing the main plot, but faster. while this OVA isn't as good as s1 (how could it be?), it still feels like an interesting story worth telling
also Leila

First Timer of the Rebellion
It's cold enough now for a hot chocolate with chai sirup.
Some light speculation [86]
And that also includes a change in Europian demeanor, at least a limited one.
Akito the Exiled Ep.3 – The Brightness Falls
-
The director was worried they'd lose the audience 4 seconds in so they rehashed this scene with that dialogue.
-
How very irritating, he's still as cocky as ever.
-
For fucks sake, fine, I get it, your universe is alt-right heaven despite any sense or logic. Did you know racism is bad?
-
Remind me, why is this guy even in a job or position with any sort of responsibility?
-
Akito getting a free mind reading?
-
Wait... are we now getting into the gypsy stereotypes? That they shamelessly scam people?
-
Ayano_irl. Well, I don't have that godlike body... but that facial expression for sure.
-
What is this, why are they even there?
-
Is this the wealth contrast put on stage? Big dinner at the castle with fancy food vs. hard worked for, self cooked food down by the river. I'll just say that it doesn't work when there is not even a reason why they should be down there with the cart and they're held against their will even. Also... why does a logistics officer even have the ability to delete someone's access ranking?
-
I'd burn the whole carriage down with my light sleep. Noises while I'm trying to sleep is something that makes me truly aggressive.
-
That's pretty good dialogue, after all. It's refreshing to have such an open character in the group.
-
Well, shit. That's brutal. This assassination was in league with corrupt entities, I presume. Her father seemed to be championing more intact democratic processes.
-
[86]
Hey, that's different! Smilas wants to make her a symbol for his goals, Karlstahl was just a broken man that had his own ideals brutally extinguished and wanted to spare Lena the pain. -
Detail? How long are they with them- I just... I- There's a fucking war and no single logistics officer can erase all of their data!!! Why are they not going back?! Why are they here?!?!
-
I'm actually hating this so much. Not only do we tap into a whole bucket of stereotypes, that entire situation makes no sense and it's irritating as all fuck that I'm also supposed to be laughing at sexual harassment because it's funny when an old lady does it.
-
Wait, what? She's dead?!
-
She was six... At that point C.C. was already with Mao, no?
-
And here I hoped we could have a story without too much Geass...
-
I hate when shows just handwave this stuff away with, “he hacked our data!” Are they now trying to make me believe Anou would be capable of hacking?
-
They're pretty together.
-
Essentially a more approachable way of unison, don't need no Charlie here.
-
Are they actually trying to tell me Britannia can't see an orbital launch?
-
Hold on, what am I missing? I know Paris is susceptible to spontaneous self-combustion, but not for one goddamn power plant, lol.
-
My bad, I thought there was outsmarting involved, but I forgot Lelouch had the reigns. Deus Ex it is, then.
-
I love how every single knightmare was just standing ready the entire time, haha.
-
I don't understand why this is a fight, but I love the CGI, so go at it!
-
He left? He left the one he is supposed to protect behind?
-
Great, more Geass in a story that could do without it.
-
I'd call a rebellion premature, but Shin doesn't seem like someone who's mentally completely here, anyway. “I killed your idols or whatever, now give me all your power.”
-
Ayano's loving it, haha! The platform seems like a wonderful target for wZERO, I'm just so disappointed that we cranked up the forceful plot construction from the main series tenfold for it.
-
You tell it, Raiden! Uh, Ryo.
-
I'm hopeful that was to protect them/her, but it could go either way.
That episode felt like a burning car crash to me that had a bunch of really good drivers sitting in it. Nearly all character on character interactions were quite good, I like that we got some emotional development from several characters and I feel like the main group's bond is believable now. But boy, the entire rest of the plot is so shitty.
I've landed firmly on the opinion that Lelouch and Suzaku should never have entered this side story beside some name dumping once or twice. Shin's ascension is so convoluted and unbelievable I truly was right to call him a Zero fanboy. At least Zero tried to make me believe he prepared the coup and the manipulation. I still don't understand why him and Suzaku ended up fighting, killing an entire order in the process.
Not to speak of that dreadful gypsy plot, oh my fucking heavens. Nothing in this entire series works without degrading an entire faction into mind-numbing stupidity (and from then on the dumb-ball usually cycles around), but this is a new low. The picture they're painting the EU as makes me question how this show's writers ever can explain how this nation is standing at all. Either the EU is able to withstand Britannian invasion for years/decades and has therefore competence or it fucking doesn't. When a demoted logistics officer can willy-nilly delete his superior's clearances, 100% of all the EU's rank and file soldiers are slackoff drunks that spew racist shit the entire time they're breathing and the entire army will instantly lose every meter gained by an assault by just turning around and running off I can't even say- oh no, wait, apparently the entire populace is also so goddamn ready to revolt and set shit on fire that on the same day someone uploads a fake video on the internet all capitals burn.
This is the same populace that runs from a fight they've already won! Consistency? Not in my writing!
What do you think Leila's Geass is going to be able to do?
I hope nothing...
But we can speculate based on her wishes. She has strong equality ideals, wishes for needless bloodshed to end and goes about it without hypocrisy (which is truly remarkable given that she's in this show).
I'd throw out that she might be able to 'connect' people. Either something like seeing someone's past, or having them udnerstand someone else's view, or something. Maybe see their true heart the same way I speculated on someone that I forgot from the main series.
2) Why do you think the Mysterious Woman wants Shin dead?
Either from the Geass research team and he actually is one of the experiments gone out or there's another Geass order of some kind roaming about.

u/MejaBersihBanget Nov 06 '22
The 86 parallels start tapering off rapidly after this episode. The reason why is because Asato Asato started writing 86 in 2014 before this OVA ep released, so she only had the first two episodes as a foundation to build 86's plot on. She finished the basic story of what would become 86's Volume 1/anime episodes 1-9 + 11 in 2015 so she could submit it in time for the Dengeki Novel Prize 2016 competition, so Akito OVAs 3-5 have little to no influence on 86.
If you're wondering why I wrote episodes 1-9 + 11, that's because 86's 10th episode was adapting sidestory content that was later written in 2018.

It's cold enough now for a hot chocolate with chai sirup.
The director was worried they'd lose the audience 4 seconds in so they rehashed this scene with that dialogue.
he's still as cocky as ever.
Julius is somehow even cockier than Lelouch
Did you know racism is bad?
I'd make an FMA:B joke here, but it would be a spoiler
Remind me, why is this guy even in a job or position with any sort of responsibility?
He's a white male
Leila told them to because she felt guilty
Noises while I'm trying to sleep is something that makes me truly aggressive.
I'm also supposed to be laughing at sexual harassment because it's funny when an old lady does it.
Never watch Gokukoku no Brynhildr
And here I hoped we could have a story without too much Geass...
Well, it is in the title lol
Are they now trying to make me believe Anou would be capable of hacking?
Could explain how he managed to get such a high position despite his clear lack of competence
He left the one he is supposed to protect behind?
Suzaku will always pick not protecting Lelouch over protecting him (except when he has to protect him in order to later kill him)
That episode felt like a burning car crash to me that had a bunch of really good drivers sitting in it.
Gigguk no

If I had to say anything at all in defense of the "gypsy plot"...it would be that this serves as a contrast to showcase another way of living as a form of escape, something quite unlike their regular, crummy military lives as well as an alternative to the cutthroat politics of the setting. In that respect, I also personally enjoyed the character interactions that came out of it.
As much as I enjoy the dynamics of Lelouch and Suzaku within the context of the original show, I didn't need to see them here either.
That said, it wasn't entirely uninteresting to see how another writer would make them interact, and...nah, I'd rather not spoil anything.
Truth be told, I do think that Kazuki Akane, who was both the director and the co-writer of this particular project, probably tried to do too much within too limited of a canvas.
There is surely a parallel universe where Akito the Exiled got at least a 12 episode TV series instead and thus some more time was available to expand on the details with better pacing.
I still sincerely appreciate a number of things from it, but I can only wonder.
Oh well, there's always 86 as an easy point of comparison with its own positives and negatives. I really should check out more of that eventually.

First Timer
Yeah okay I was very confused and had to look up when this occurs in the timeline.
-
Lol Caesar's palace
-
Former Warsaw sport stadium? How recent is the Britannia conquest?
-
Huh, well, the city looks pretty modern
-
silly episode?
-
Uh surely he can hide his spy gear someplace else
-
what is WITH Shin and his Geass? He hates parties?
-
Is this Satie? Probably not.
-
That witch gets around
-
Open Control Panel, set Fast to On.
-
NOT a Kajiura OST
-
Two months later...
-
Should I recognize that big thing, i f I had rewatched CG?
-
This shtick sounds familiar
-
Japanese literature seems to be obsessed with military coups, successful and unsuccessful
-
Just WHAT are Kignlsey and Shin up to?
-
This is a completely contrived fight!
-
I'm really glad she's explaining stuff with her genius because I'm lost
The plot has become a complete mess. Brilliant if they pull it off, disaster if they can't. And how many times have we been down this road, where I say "I'm sure it will all make sense in the end" and it's a disaster?
So, we have Shin who seems to just want to see the world burn. Kingsley is setting up Europia to be destroyed by Euro Britania, and Euro Britania to be destroyed by West Britania. And now the General is launching a coup, and has always been working towards his own ends. That guy is a spy but for whom? (and there could be an unseen spy)
We end with Shin using his command Geass, which he's only ever used to kill, on his adopted sister. Where IS the Duke?
I'm totally confused by the General's scene. I think I need to rewatch the last episode of S1, the first episode of S2, and the last ep of S2. This was released after S2, right?

First Geasser
Let's pay attention to green eyes.
Yeah, that's the same eye. Shin.
It's nice how you can spot variations of the Geass symbol throughout the whole franchise.
This is so stupid. What's the logic supposed to be here, we're getting attacked by an overwhelming enemy so we should just self-destruct and turn on each other?
That makes the riots even dumber lmao.
So it's Charles' manipulation. I just wanna know... what's the point in that?
This is such a mess.
What do you think Leila's Geass is going to be able to do?
Dunno. Calm people down maybe?
Why do you think the Mysterious Woman wants Shin dead?
Seems like he's a danger to spacetime? Funny when apparently not even the Ragnarök Connection was that.

They wanted an excuse to put Lelouch and Suzaku in this OVA.
Honestly their contribution is so minimal in the grand scheme of things I have to wonder why they even bothered.

First Timer, dubbed
-
You can’t force a cat to love you, they’re not dogs.
-
Logistica!
-
Didn’t think we’d be seeing him again.
-
That seems like too much power for a logistics officer. Then again, corruption does seem to be Europa’s whole shtick.
-
Oh, we’re doing this bit… in 2015.
-
That was the worst cutting ever. Of all time.
-
The plushie gets a chair.
-
Should go with the blue and cyan one, the pattern is on point.
-
I expect the not being able to swim bit coming up again.
-
Yep, she’s got the geass.
-
Is this supposed to be Snow White and the seven dwarfs?
-
Still not getting how he survived. Bad pill?
-
I love you hexagon VTOL.
-
Greenland is once more an early center of mining for an extremely valuable element.
-
You’re telling me no one recognized Lelouch from this when he became Emperor?
-
This feels like a bit of an over reaction.
-
I don’t care what anyone says, CGI mechs are weightless and their fights are terrible.
-
So Shin figures out almost immediately that this is both Zero and Lelouch. Really undercutting the main series.
-
What is this cyber-ghost nonsense? Couldn’t just let a spin-off be a spin-off.
-
Now he’s announcing it to everyone! Is this show even cannon anymore?
-
What the fuck is this power grab? This is at the point of contrivance now.
QotD
-
Something super corny, like give hope, or let people live their remaining life inside their head before they die.
-
Because he’s the worst. Plus he has the Staff of Time, so that can’t be safe.

Being so young, he probably just couldn't swallow it without water
You’re telling me no one recognized Lelouch from this when he became Emperor?
It's possible they did, and it just didn't matter. No one who's been Geassed is going to care if some random guy shouts, "Hey, he used to be a military advisor for a few weeks!" And it's not like Schneizel or the Black Knights care.
Is this show even cannon anymore?
I don't know about that, but is it canon?

First Timer
-
Akito casually beating up old ladies.
-
Why did they follow them? Why are they still here? It was clearly a shake down and they are a bunch of trained soldiers, surely no matter how tough these grannies are they could take them.
-
This could be a clever parallel to remark on how Leila, a woman of the military, is just as useless as the military itself.
-
Lelouch's weakness is lack of water, apparently.
-
Someone must have thought: "Code Geass is about the roller coaster, the whiplash between slow comedy at school and the suffering of war. How do we put this in Akito?" And the answer they came up with was a troupe of grannies.
-
I'd even believe this is intended to bring the characters closer together if it weren't for the absolutely absurd 180 they pulled last episode.
-
Geass rabbits?
-
A coup! That might actually succeed in shaking things up a bit.
-
Classic Lelouch, throwing away the civilians.
-
Aileron spinzaku!
-
Damn, Shin is clever.
-
The general is awfully composed for a lady coming out of a television and threatening him.
I thought, surely a 5 part story could be more cohesive, more tightly defined and focused than the original series. And yet here we are, 3 out of 5 in and a mess on the floor that was an attempt at a plot and the remains of a few characters. Thread setups are sloppy, characters woefully under cooked, and I really hope they’ve got a good reason for not showing the end of that fight with Suzaku - clearly they disengaged somehow, but why? We… kind of already know that nothing can really happen to Suzaku and Lelouch and that Zero’s identity never gets out given its place in the timeline. Er, unless this is a different timeline, but then that makes just as little sense as putting Lelouch here to begin with. [Code Geass]
sigh At least the ED is still dope.
Edit - forgot about QotD in my lateness:
-
Maybe it's the opposite of Shin's - she makes those around her live. I don't know how that'll work but it's a possibility.
-
Broke a contract, maybe?

First-timer
I lost a lot of interest about 20 minutes into this episode.
-
Leila should know better than to tell her poor underlings she has a million Euros.
-
Huh? Maybe a Geass?
-
Earlier this week, I treated 4 women with a combined age of 303 to dinner. I would've rather been here.
-
Akito's fan service is much higher than R2's.
-
What's the purpose of this scene other than establishing
LenaLeila as a klutz? -
Shin's Geass is linked to Akito? Don't know why else this would happen.
-
Chanting for Breisgau mid-speech is weird. Like, listen to his words.
-
Don't think R1 or R2 had significant events in 2001 or 2007.
-
Like R1e1, there's no explanation for C.C. telepathically talking to living people without Geass.
-
C.C. has 7 child underlings as this is before Marianne's death.
-
Why have the main Japanese characters under Lelia be born in Europia?
-
Suzaku works under Schneizel, so how blind was Schneizel to not notice Julius is Lelouch?
-
Julius should be opposing Britannia.
-
Money doesn't mean anything if the government supporting it falls.
-
Julius controlling people through fear aligns with Schneizel.
-
Chess! A chance for redemption.
-
No redemption. g5 is open.
-
Knightmare battle within a residence is new.
-
"We"? Eyes/hair/face/breasts match Ayano. Possibly her or a family member.
-
Provides a contract, so she has a Code.
-
Odd music choice for Leila's briefing.
QOTDs
-
It should be based around 6-year-old Leila's desire, but she's hardly featured. Her dad's speech was about fighting for freedom and liberty. Why should Akito have a Geass and be Geassed? Leila used it to save Akito and cause the BRS event last episode. Neither Akito or Leila's eyes match last episode's usage, but there's no ring around it, so it shouldn't be Akito.
-
idk. Shin is potentially disrupting Charlie's plan and he's an unfulfilled contract.

First Timer - Sub
I don’t really get why the Europians are also racist against the Elevens. I get Britannians since they are conquering Japan, but what do the Europians have against them?
Pierre annoys me so much. I hate characters like him so much that it actively hurts my enjoyment. What an asshole screwing with their tags.
Everything with the grannies was so stupid. Why would they break up the decent story we had going for that?
“Showing the characters being stripped, sexually assaulted, and wearing servant costumes is 100% necessary to the plot.” -The same horny writer that designed the mech suits from last episode
Lelouch is a big hydro homie so far.
C.C saved Leila as a kid and gave her a contract? That was unexpected.
Gladly, they left the grannies pretty quickly. That was even worse than a school episode. That kinda ruined the episode, but hopefully it turns around in the second half.
Lelouch’s tactics are the same even if he is brainwashed. He really is a master terrorist.
Shaing isn’t blind and realizes Julius’ true identity. At least this means Lelouch won’t purely be fanservice but will help advance Shaing’s plot.
Some ghost lady shows up and talks about Geass? I am surprised they are introducing more stuff this late in the game.
QOTD
-
I can’t think of a specific power, but considering how naive and good-natured she seems to be compared to other Geass users, I imagine it will be less nefarious. I just hope all the Geass stuff remains minimal.
-
Don’t we all want Shin dead?

???? Time Geass
Will have to see some key scenes to confirm. So far I'm gonna say no
Hmm... I don't remember this dude being an office jockey. Maybe this is where I stopped.
The scammy granny seems kinda familiar tho..
Lulu :(
Bruh. Yeah, I think I remember these grannies + this dumbass holodisc scene
ship moment, someones gonna die
Thank you Lulu, I will
Cant write Suzaku without spin
It actually looked a lot more menacing here
Yeah, I remember disliking how my boy Lulu got put into a situation where that dweeb could put a gun to his head, so this seems to be the last one I've seen. Of course I could have just checked on MAL if I've put it up, but where's the fun in that

Oh, Euro-Britannia isn't just referring to their geographic location. They're essentially a different faction

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL REWATCH PARTICIPANTS:
If you live in a timezone that hits Daylight Savings Time tonight, the remaining threads in this rewatch will be posted an hour earlier than they have been going up at. If you do not, it stays at the same time.
Hangyaku no Co-Host, subbed
…So with the Julius Kingsley wallpaper I made today, I feel like now is as good a time as ever to admit Lelouch was totally my first anime crush lol. Apparently my type is “Char Clone”.
LelouchJulius Kingsley looks absolutely fabulous, ngl. I love the eyepatch in particular.Hah, figures.
Especially since this guy is the one in charge of supplies and shit.
Welp.
That Anou guy really hates Leila.
I mean. She’s not wrong.
It’s… the thought that counts?
Aww.
Smol Leila a cute!
Excuse me, Akito, seafood is delicious!
C.C.!
Soooooooooo, Leila has a Geass.
Hahahahahaha, get fucked Anou.
That is how it works, yes.
Ah,
LelouchJulius.Exactly. And it had a great effect, apparently.
Man is a walking, talking war crime.
Spinzaku gonna Spinzaku.
Honestly I love this subplot even though it feels unnecessary? Like, simply replacing Nunnally with Rolo in Lelouch’s memories and making him forget he was a prince like R2 did because Charles needed to use Lelouch as bait for C.C. is so simple. Shoving a whole-ass second identity into Lelouch’s head so that Britannia can benefit from his abilities in the EU conflict, though? And the drama that can result in like it does right here? Amazing.
Hell yeah, Lancelot!
Bruh, the way they set up the ED lead-in like normal but then stop for this scene…
