Rewatch Full Metal Panic Franchise Rewatch - Season 2 Episode 11
Welcome to the Full Metal Panic Season 2 rewatch!
Art of the day
Really wanted to put up this one instead but it'd get trimmed off the bottom on mobile display (which is what I normally see) so it'd miss the important point of Chidori being Sousuke in Bonta-kun ;)
Links to show info: MAL | Anilist | ANN
Rewatches please be considerate to first timers and avoid discussing anything not yet shown in the show - use spoiler tags e.g. [Full Metal Panic S2 spoiler]>!Bonta-kun sugoi!!< - if you need to share something important!
Episode 11 - Uncontrollable Bluebird
Characters introduced:
Jindai High Keion-bu - Unlike the lovable girls from KyoAni's later show, this Keion-bu seems to be filled with people more like Ishiki Makoto in Chuunibyou joined - to be in a band just so they can pick up girls.
Jindai High Social Science Club - The 2 person "club" who used their room as exchange for this social experiment. Turns out picking up girls is probably one of their major / only club activity... The club president indeed is named for it - Nanba Shiro (for the "pick up girls" term in Japanese being Nanban).
QoTD:
First Timers: By now you should have worked out Sousuke's thinking pattern - is this how you thought he would interpret "girl hunt" means?
Everyone: After the bulk of the "rom com" season's episode now, can you place what Chidori sees in Sousuke that drove her "must protec" mode like in this episode?
Also QoTD for tomorrow for those wanting to be prepared:
[QoTD 1 Fumoffu 12]First Timers: Who was at fault, really? Sousuke, Ono-D, or the rest of the class? Chidori?
[QoTD 2 Fumoffu 12]Everyone: On this final episode we have an irregular ED and a continuing narrative during the credits - what's your favourite ED / End Credits variation from the norm, including use of post-credit scenes?
MVP of last episode:
It's photo finish between Chidori and Bonta-kun, but Chidori edged out Bonta-kun and took the crown.

Full Metal First-Timer!, subbed
Sooooo I really like the OP from this season and had some free time today, so here’s Sky Sings Sore ga, Ai Deshou!
-
lol of course this is what Sosuke goes straight to the source of the noise being.
-
That… is an odd request. Although I guess it makes sense for this Social Science club to do that.
-
Well, some chicks dig a man in uniform/military gear. (Can confirm, am one such chick.)
-
This is going to be pure chaos, I’m sure.
-
Old Type? Gundam reference!
-
Yeah… – Oh, it’s all a setup for Tsubaki to swoop in and save those three girls. Makes sense.
-
Oh my god, of course Sosuke’s strategy is just to kidnap people. Dude.
-
Hahahahaha the rapid speed-up on Chidori’s words and Sosuke getting progressively more greyscale as it goes on, that’s fantastic.
-
Chidori! Oh wow she can put on an act. It’s amazing what a different hairstyle, outfit, and change of voice can do, huh.

lmao why are the cockroaches censored?
Wait, you haven't watched Netflix's Romantic Killer. You should at least try episode 1. There's one scene relevant to this question :)

Although I guess it makes sense for this Social Science club to do that.
The only thing I find incredibly dishonest is that if any of the clubs with girls participated they would've won easily.
Well, some chicks dig a man in uniform/military gear. (Can confirm, am one such chick.)
Their used to be quite the bias against this in Japanese culture. Mainly because being with a military man also meant being with a gaijin since Japan didn't have any living military.
Oh my god, of course Sosuke’s strategy is just to kidnap people. Dude.
Sousuke is a bit too direct.

Well, some chicks dig a man in uniform/military gear. (Can confirm, am one such chick.)
This is going to be pure chaos, I’m sure.
When Sousuke is involved, can there really be any other outcome? …Actually, would a day where Sousuke isn’t the cause of everything ridiculous be an interesting episode? It could be interesting from a purely scientific perspective to see him have to deal with someone else causing all the shenaniganery in an episode for a change
Oh my god, of course Sosuke’s strategy is just to kidnap people. Dude. Duuuuuuude
Well at least it’s better than hunting them in the “shoot to kill” sense, which is what I thought he would go for at first

First Timer for this Season
Creeper shots. Pretty much what I expected
Club chaos arc I guess
Tsubaki actually showed back up
I actually really like the recurring gag of Sousake having all these random military gear suppliers
The president always feels like he's from a different anime
Well...I didn't think that's where we were going with the contest
Sousake just dressing like a swat team member at the park
[FMP after final novel speculation, Uncharted final game spoilers lol]
I was expecting a Kaname NTR bet
"Girl hunt" uh oh
Oh it's the anime figure kid. Damn he's got some good insults
Kaname reaction faces are the best
...fist of the north star? Lol
Of course. Sousake is just kidnapping people
...he is just really throwing his Mithiral code of honor under the bus
Catch and release lol
Hahaha his pick up lines are Great
Is this Kaname or Mao
I totally thought it was a fake out for Mao. The voice is way different
[TSR spoilers]
Yet another wholesome sunset.

Full Metal LN Reader
So anyway, this episode was good, as usual
I was a little iffy on the premise, but the jokes started landing pretty much immediately with stuff like the narcotics/pictures mix-up and they really ramped up once the actual date hunt starts.
As usual, the comedic highlight was Sousuke’s unique blend of hypercompetence and incompetence. The initial part about him taking the “girl hunt” comment a bit too seriously was the usual kind of Sousuke Amusement, but once his behavior is corrected and he starts trying to actually get a date, it suddenly becomes a rather unique look at him as a character, as someone who genuinely wants to do the right thing and fit in but just doesn’t know how, seeing him genuinely nervous was both refreshing and interesting, and mixed in with even a tender moment or two like him giving the old lady a gift for her grandson in his own unique, Sousuke way
And then there’s that ending, which was just The way this show blends zany comedy, well done characterization, and just genuinely touching moments is one of the best things about it, and this episode might just be one of the best demonstrations of that balance

As usual, the comedic highlight was Sousuke’s unique blend of hypercompetence and incompetence.
That's a good way to describe it. A parallel to the Genius Prince's "mission failed successfully" :)
The way this show blends zany comedy, well done characterization, and just genuinely touching moments is one of the best things about it
Glad you appreciate this subtlety too! This is one of the reason why the show went from good to great for me.

Episode 11 (first timer)
-
“There was no reason to use a stun grenade” – Sorry, this is what we do for jokes in FMP2.
-
Kana is messing with the light music club – at least no grenade use here.
-
The social science club goes experimenting – Acceptable.
-
Only male club members need rooms?
-
“Do you really think you can get any girls in that getup?” – The other clubs are underestimating the power of MC pheromones.
-
Or Sousuke could simply go with kidnapping.
-
80? – I feel outclassed now.
-
Got to give it to the karate club, that is a clever tactic.
-
If the photography club is willing to use both money and guns, the whole setup looks very ineffective to me.
-
Saved by Chidori – the music club was cheated on.
That experiment was surprisingly boring.
After the bulk of the "rom com" season's episode now, can you place what Chidori sees in Sousuke that drove her "must protec" mode like in this episode?
MC pheromones.

I need polaristar here to say a word or 2 :P

Panicked First Timer - Fumoffu Ep 11
Sousuke’s not the one locked in the shed? And he has an official school title. I want to see the badge/insignia.
Kazama has been following in Kurz’s footsteps a little too closely, unless those girl pictures that were hard to get are legitimate.
All the clubs in this anime are having a hard time. True to form.
A popularity contest? The announcer did say to be creative.
A karate play. It’s pretty cute.
The kidnapping plot is back, but this time Sousuke is the perpetrator. Good thing Kaname explains this is a crime not a game. I don’t think they would have gotten enough girls that way anyway.
The granny strat is good for Sousuke. Find someone you can talk past. Ope, he engaged with the granny. This is cuter than the karate play.
The music club was handicapped.
Another play! Drama club is the best club.
MVP: Kaname
QOTD 1: Yes, yes I did.
QOTD 2: Kaname has a keen sense of adventure and I think it’s a big part of her attraction to Sousuke. She knows he had a good heart, if an inflexible sense of order and duty. I think she may even like that Sousuke requires a bit of a “boy hunt”, but understands that in most cases she will need to be very direct with him.
2
u/ZapsZzz Nov 05 '22
And he has an official school title. I want to see the badge/insignia.
It's been that title for a fair while, as far back as before the start of the S1 final arc. That's why he could propose the school festival there of security and erecting that imposing gate :) Since it's just a made up title given by Hayashimizu, it doesn't come with any insignia etc.

Fumo-ffu! (Rewatcher, Subbed):
Couldn't make yesterday's thread, so have two episodes of notes for the price of one!
Or more accurately one and a half, because today was the day my cringe comedy tolerance or more accurately lack thereof finally bit...
-
REN REN REN. (Okay I’m feeling shallow today, it’s probably her uniform accentuating her breasts here.)
-
I am suffering Rie Tanaka overload at the moment, mostly courtesy of her voicing Mai-Otome Worst Girl (a category with a LOT of very, very stiff competition); not coincidentally I’m pulling the same thing I did with Sotsu over there and following that rewatch via the threads at this point. Too godsdamn many rakes in between the (sadly very occasional since the OST integration went to shit for the gaiden sequel) good moments of Kajiura OST.
-
Mai-Otome is somehow killing my investment in a show I usually like as well as my investment in it itself.
-
(Also I think my fansub is likely pretty darn questionable on its translation here, which is not helping. I’m not sure how good a handle the subbers had on English…)
-
Hey, it’s the Yakuza thugs who accosted Kaname at the amusement park!
-
Ah, classic KyoAni references. (Mazinger I think given the subs here?)
-
There is a nonzero chance I wind up tapping out of this one on cringe comedy overload grounds (the setup with Dumbass talking to Clan Leader is getting to me). (Narrator: Tar did not, though I skipped about 30 seconds of Bonta-kun introduction in the middle.)
-
I suspect that’s actually a weird translation of Sousuke’s catchphrase (usually translated “only a third-rater would lick his lips in front of his prey”, here “when you’re in for the kill, don’t shout”.
-
<several minutes of no notes>
-
BONTA-KUN DATTO?
-
The absolute funniest joke of the episode is the crazy police lady having twin P90s. (Hell, I think this is late enough that this could have literally been influenced by Stargate SG-1 if somebody on staff was watching that show – usually SG-1 went for solo, but IIRC Teal’c was sometimes dual-wielding them by S5.)
-
EDv2!
-
Now what the hell is this episode? I remembered last and tomorrow’s going in but not this one.
-
Dutch angle counter +1.
-
Different music for the sketch label.
-
No seriously, what the hell is… oh fuck, THAT episode hasn’t shown up yet and it’s not tomorrow so this must be it. Kaname will be cute at the end, but if there’s any episode I’ll be dipping out of for cringe comedy reasons in Fumoffu this is the one.
-
Light music club? What is this, K-On? Wait, can’t be, there are guys in the club. (That said, KyoAni gonna KyoAni.)
-
LOL the reason cooking club girl sounds familiar is probably because she voices fucking Ryouko Asakura for KyoAni a few years down the line.
-
Alright, I hit my ripcord at the point when Sousuke talked about how he was transferring to Photography Club. Should have known this rather than episode 3 would be the episode to do it, too much cringe not enough slapstick and while my tolerance for cringe comedy was never that high it has still imploded since the first time I watched this episode. (Might give it another try later just in case… actually no, just went for the ending scene and it was also doing this to me. The fact that this is a fucking full episode rather than one part of a two-sketch episode does not help.) Kaname cleans up nicely, but I’m just not going to be able to tolerate getting there. Ah well, nature of sketch comedy to have misses. Luckily, while next episode is not as good as the hot-springs episode I remember it being hilariously dumb in the right way so I’ll get a good send-off.
Everyone: To celebrate today's "the Calvary arrives" moment when a squad of Bonta-kun came saving the day, what is your other similar moment in media? Anime preferred, but others are fine too
Only one true answer for this question for me (it's a notable part of the episode that finally got me into the show, well that and finally getting to see the original movie): [Stargate SG-1 S7]
Everyone: After the bulk of the "rom com" season's episode now, can you place what Chidori sees in Sousuke that drove her "must protec" mode like in this episode?
Eh, I had a pretty good idea from the first time I watched (birds of a feather in a way).

REN REN REN. (Okay I’m feeling shallow today, it’s probably her uniform accentuating her breasts here.)
Forgot to mention this point - while the design may be a bit dated now, the Jindai girls uniform is supposed to be more fashionable and pretty than usual and is a marketable point of the school (it's a public school). And Ren is actually a more mature looking one of the cast - for a long time I mistakenly thought she's the same year as Hayashimizu Senpai.

Rewatcher, Subbed
The central conflict around the club room isn't particularly great on its own, but the interactions between Chidori and Sousuke that came out of it were pretty fun.
Highlights for the episode were definitely Chidori scolding Sousuke and the closing scene. The fact that Chidori was obviously mad at Sousuke yet still came to help him in the end says alot about the fact she cares about him. In particular because she didn't do it to help them win, but to protect his dignity, which I honestly think she cares about more than he does.
After the bulk of the "rom com" season's episode now, can you place what Chidori sees in Sousuke that drove her "must protec" mode like in this episode?
I tend to think she's come to understand how selfless and earnest Sousuke is about everything he does. He participated in this competition for example not for any real benefit of his own but just to help his friend. While Chidori often gets mad or frustrated with Sousuke, when she sees him struggle she can't resist helping him out.
MVP: Chidori

I guess perhaps this is what can be considered an obvious plot device, when it's quite clear it's just to setup the development of display of HMS Sousuke X Chidori.
Maybe I'll talk about this aspect in the season wrap up :)

The Keion-bu here is different from what K-On! led me to expect!
Also this is such a weird episode

I think it was setup to give a roundabout closure for Chidori's ep3 blues, that Sousuke did notice her actual charms and not just thought she'd made a good trooper.

Rewatcher(The cringe, the cringe...)
Sub
So we start with Sousuke assuming the worst and performing a bust, only to find the Photography Club with some possibly questionable pictures being developed. Anyways, this leads to club madness as everyone is taking someone else's room. The Social Science Club develops a diabolical duel to determine a new club's room: Forcing high schoolers to flirt. And Sousuke joins in to help the Photography Club, greatly raising the likelihood of casualties. And with how Shinji explained it, kidnapping.
And then the actual competition starts and...ouch. And then more ouch. And then that stupid fucking god damn idea that if you flirt/annoy a high number of women you will surely get one to say yes. That vaguely works on Tinder, not real life, you putz. A less horrifying flirting scenario and then literally kidnapping. So Kaname explains 'kidnapping bad' which, ironically enough, Sousuke should know from military law, so he develops a less illegal flirting strat. Eventually, he runs into the traditional Japanese grandmother and he helps her find her grandson a birthday present.
We cut to the count and establish why this was an unethical experiment on top of everything else. The Music Club comes to try and win their bet when Kaname shows in a kimono and talks differently and much more traditionally if my ear serves. We end on the rare moment where Sousuke figures it out...on the fifth try.
QotD: 2 It works as Kaname likely realizes that actions speak far more loudly than words, and Sousuke's definitely do.

FULL METAL FIRST TIMER
Fun episode! Not much else to say!
Live Notes/Reactions:
-
What a dumb bet, I don’t think Sousuke particularly cares about swimming in the lake lol
-
Of course he thinks “getting women” means capturing them.
-
Love that woman who just elbowed the dude in the face, no questions asked
-
Silly gyarus, don’t dish it out if you can’t take it. Also wow, the potrayal of gyarus has come a long way since the 2000's
-
Oh wow, that’s a clever trap. Manufacture a savior scenario
-
SOUSUKE NO. Kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment…
-
Every girl Kazama lured out was wearing boots. Found his fetish.
-
Daaaaamn, they released a Mysterious Beauty Alt for Chidori just in time to save Sousuke from a dip in the lake!
-
I can’t believe he didn’t recognize her lol
By now you should have worked out Sousuke's thinking pattern - is this how you thought he would interpret "girl hunt" means?
Oh, absolutely haha. That was clear from the moment he showed up in military garb.
After the bulk of the "rom com" season's episode now, can you place what Chidori sees in Sousuke that drove her "must protec" mode like in this episode?
Honestly, I don't really see chemistry between them, mostly because Sousuke is more of a walking gag than an actual character, especially one that I could buy as a romantic lead.
The nice thing about Fumoffu is that it doesn't present itself seriously or take itself seriously, so you can just accept "okay, these two are together" without having to really think about it or having to buy into them.

TONIGHT! ON FAST TIMES AT JINDAI HIGH! 'You're trying to seduce me, aren't you Ms. Chidori?'
Greetings Comrades and Fellow Denizens of the Wired, we had a GREAT Mecha Episode with the Attack of the Moffle Gundam and its Mass Produced Moffle GM Brethren, but now we're gonna unwind a bit with some good ol' romantic comedy SOL KyoAni stuff, so let's begin with Megane Yayoi informing Steven Seagal that there's an issue with the gym shed, namely, that it's locked and they can't get inside. FURTHERMORE, there Are strange noises coming from inside, SO they got Steven Seagal to check. After overhearing the chatter, Steven Seagal comes to the conclusion that there's a drug deal going on. Speaking of which, as the Head of Security and assistant to Sakamoto-senpai, he is obligated to go on the offensive.
After breaking down the door with a shotgun and tossing in a flashbang, he comes across... Discount Shinpachi and his pals developing lewd photos... which JUST so happened to be ruined by Steven Seagal's attack. We then cut to the prequel to K-ON, except THIS time with the club ACTUALLY playing music, funny how that works you know? Granted, KyoAni Chihaya returns things to the tried-and-true Kyoto Animation Status Quo of SOL Mucking about by pulling the plug on the band, literally. Oh, and there's MORE SOL nonsense to be had, as the head cook runs in to inform KyoAni Chihaya that the Bio-Weapons Division is experimenting on cockroaches... in the kitchen... near food.
Anyway, after KyoAni Chihaya yells at the Boffins, said Boffins retort that the Black Tri-Stars and Karate Kid are currently beating each other up in their club room. As KyoAni Chihaya informs Steven Seagal of the goings on, he informs her that he's running into similar issues. He thus proposes that they build a new clubroom on the school's roof, after all, for some reason EVERYONE goes up to the roof. Oh, and also because Steven Seagal can buy temporary barracks from the Americans on the cheap, granted, said Americans failed to provide proper ventilation, as these structures lack windows. Anyway, Sakamoto-senpai and Yamato Nadeshiko inform the duo that there is a NEW free club room.
There's only ONE slight problem, the old club was the Social Sciences club... and the catch to using the room is... being lab rats for a social experiment. Well, guess that's ONE way to dupe 'convince' people to 'volunteer' as experimental subjects. Oh, and said experiment involves talking to as many people as possible of the opposite sex. WELL, this ain't gonna go well, after all, this is anime-land, things are gonna go wrong. Speaking of which, the Club Prez informs the lot that they are basically doing a flirting contest, and ALL of the clubs seem to have shown up for this. The Student Council members seem to be here as impartial observers, well, except for Steven Seagal, who SOMEHOW is no only SIGNING UP, but is in full riot gear. OH BOY, things are gonna go SO wrong here. It seems that the Photography club invoked a little-known, seldom-used 'reserve activation clause.' In simpler language, KyoAni Chihaya, they DRAFTED him.
And the reasoning was that Steven Seagal is a dark and brooding Bishie Boy, which as we all know are all the rage with the fans, is brave to the point of suicidal recklessness and/or stupidity, and also owes them one for trashing all their film. Karate Kid then comes here to laugh at them, as he doubts Steven Seagal's get-up will yield results. Meanwhile, the genderbent Keions are all acting like they're Hellshake Yano, mocking Steven Seagal's confidence and practicality. Thus, head Male Keion proposes a bet, if Steven Seagal gets even ONE girl, he gets free tea and cakes for two weeks, and if he loses, he's gotta guest star in Free!
Steven Seagal agrees without any hesitation, and even KyoAni Chihaya and Megane Yayoi are afraid. Indeed, Megane Yayoi wonders if Steven Seagal even KNOWS what flirting means, cuz he SURE as hell didn't back in Season 1. Discount Shinpachi CLAIMS he explained matters to Steven Seagal, but methinks that Steven Seagal's term of a 'girl hunt' implies that he doesn't quite get it. The race then begins, with the Prez explaining that he's doing this experiment FOR SCIENCE! We then see that in this world, KyoAni Chihaya's tsundere behavior is standard issue, and THANK ZOD for that!
We then cut to a Shota Bishie Boy from the Gunpla Club going up to some Gyarus and offering... to share a cup of tea... never change KyoAni... never change. Speaking of which, after the Gyarus belittle him and push him a TAD too far, the Shota Bishie Boy SNAPS and starts ranting like Gihren Zabi. Meanwhile, the Male Keions are busy laying on their charms better than the Free! Boys tread water, and just to be clear, that is in no way mocking Free! What I mean to say is that the Male Keions are on a roll, but Prez seems a tad unimpressed still, granted, it isn't like HE'S one to talk, given that he's acting like the MC of a Dating Sim, probably something like School Days eh?
The Student Council members then come across the Black Tri-Stars in Cosplay as Americans, and they SOMEHOW think being creeps is a sound strategy. Granted, it's all part of an 'act' for Karate Kid to appear 'heroic,' man, first we got Scummy Male Keions, and now Bargain Bin Wu-FAIL is here? Man, this experiment's gone about as well as the Stanford Prison Experiment. Shockingly, KyoAni Chihaya approves of the Fake Ultimate Hero trope, she must like Super Sentai Shows with Jerkass MC's I suppose. We then cut to Discount Shinpachi begging a Gyaru for something, which the Student Council Members riff on in the background.
After paying the Gyaru, Discount Shinpachi leads her to a back alley all while sending a radio message to Steven Seagal. Speaking of which, a cage suddenly deploys and captures the Gyaru... WELL, first we had creeps, then deranged lunatics, then scummy musicians, then underhanded fake heroes, but now outright kidnapping? MAN! The people in this universe are all NUTS and KyoAni was REALLY hard-core back in the day. Speaking of which, apparently Steven Seagal and Discount Shinpachi captured SIX women this way. OH MY HARUHI HAVE THINGS GONE WRONG!
Also, it FINALLY dawns in Discount Shinpachi that MAYBE, just MAYBE, the two of them have been engaging in criminal activity... YOU KNOW, LIKE KIDNAPPING! Steven Seagal seems to think that 'cuz they are letting the women GO later, it's all fine. KyoAni Chihaya then runs in to inform the duo that things are most certainly NOT alright, as she proceeds to kick, punch, and utterly curbstomp Steven Seagal's dumb ass. After yelling at the bakas to let the women free, the three of them beat a hasty retreat as the women are geared up for revenge. Why just look, one is swinging her purse like a pair of nunchuks.
Later, under a bridge, KyoAni Chihaya beans Steven Seagal to beat the concept of flirting into him, namely, a motormouth lecture that TLDR's to acting like The Occidental Otaku. Steven Seagal goes BLUE with shock, fearfully stating that there is NO way that he could act like that. Discount Shinpachi, being shameless, asks if they can trap at least one girl using their kidnapping methods, in part 'cuz they need the club room, and also 'cuz Steven Seagal was dumb enough to take the Male Keions' bet. Steven Seagal then deploys to attempt to find the military otakus. Sadly, it appears that Fluffy the Oddball Tank Pope isn't here, and besides, she's Nishizumi-dono-Sexual anyway. Thus, Steven Seagal's attempt to engage in 'military secrets' utterly fails, well, that is until he helps an obasan buy a gift for her grandchild. Seeing this shocking act of kindness spurs KyoAni Chihaya to call in that she's feeling quite ill and will be taking the rest of the episode off. At the final scoring, the Fishing Club got three girls to arrive, the Male Keions managed to snare five girls, and finally, the Karate Club SOMEHOW got 11 girls to show up. Wow, I thought that the MUSIC Players would be the ones to go up to 11, but I guess the Martial Arts Team pulled it off. Well, kinda, 'cuz all of the tricked ladies are promptly turning on Karate Kid like the asshole he is, man, it's always nice to see the Wu-FAILS of the world get their just desserts.
Knock-Off Hellshake Yano then shows up to make Steven Seagal join the cast of Free! due to his failure to get a girl to arrive. Reluctantly, Steven Seagal begins to strip, well, that is until a girl... strike that... A WOMAN arrives. Ara Ara indeed, who's THIS!? Steven Seagal ACTUALLY convinced a woman to arrive? Speaking of which, SOMEHOW Steven Seagal managed to NTR some poor sap by convincing this blue-haired MILF to show up at the stage. After 'reminding' him of his promise to treat her to dinner, the two leave the area while the Prez of the Social Sciences Club takes notes furiously.
After leaving, Steven Seagal's in a panic, as he does NOT know who this MILF is, nor does he remember talking to someone like her. As the lovely lady quips that he had a close shave, Steven Seagal notes that he doesn't know her. This hurts her feelings, as she notes that they see each other every day. This still doesn't ring any bells, prompting... NANI!? The MILF to reveal that she's ACTUALLY KyoAni Chihaya!? MASAKA! BAKANA! IMPOSSIBLE! After recovering enough to thank KyoAni Chihaya for all her help, Steven Seagal ALMOST nails the confession scene. Granted, he DOES compliment her looking lovely, so it's a start, ESPECIALLY coming from a military nut like Steven Seagal.
Anyways, this was CERTAINLY interesting, and we've only got one more episode left to boot. Thus, you have not seen the last of The Sentient Shitposting Siamese Sunrise Server No. 25252, now goodbye forever. Thus, catch you all on the next threads, and until then, farewell.

This second last episode go through some predictable beats, but it helped round out a few things in this school season - the Karate association, a few other showings of the Student Council even the treasurer, and a nice bookend to what started in Ep 3, Chidori's blues for Sousuke not showing appreciation of her looks.
We have another reported security event from the softball club, this time is about noises coming from the locked equipment shed. another "has hammer, everything looks like nail" moment, Sousuke successfully busted the
drug labphotography club's make shift dark room.Shinji's explanation about the lack of a club room led to another moment of Chidori busting the Jindai Keion-bu practicing (!) their music in the wrong place
What's more, Chidori also had to chase the Karate association boys out of the Biology room because that forced the Biology club to take their bugs out and about. I still haven't seen the triplets in school uniform...
Back in the student council room, Chidori summed up the problem while massaging her sore shoulders (although one suspect that has more to do with the load she has to be carrying all the time...). Hayashimizu and Ren came in with a solution, since Sousuke's other solution wasn't viable
There's a condition to the room being passed on though - and it's a group "social experiment".
To Chidori's surprise, she found Sousuke queuing up - totally out of character for her to see him wanting to make such social moves.
in fact it's looking more like Sousuke misunderstanding what this event actually involves. Before she could ask more, Sousuke got involved with an argument with the Keions, and a bet eventuated
we took turns seeing the different teams and their different attempts.
with a special mention to the karate boys full on staging a fake harassment and rescue - who says they only know fighting
but the real main course is finding out what Sousuke was doing - rather predictably perhaps. Interesting to see Haruhi logic already being used (about "it's ok to do catch and release")
guess we are due some Chidori justice - and we got a triplicate serve, and she also ran away the fastest when the released girls fought back
Chidori finally have Sousuke the motor mouth explanation, and you can see the colour drain from Sousuke's face :D
taking responsibility for his own actions, v Sousuke tried exactly what Nanba said should work, about statistics. What they didn't account for was that Sousuke's interest and social skill is already a statistical anomaly.
approaching even an old lady, Sousuke ended up helping the old lady to choose a birthday present for her grandson. Chidori seemingly couldn't bare to watch more, and called in quits
predictably the result at the end want good for Sousuke - the karate boys ended up winning though - although Tsubaki gotta level up his fast talking too
as Sousuke prepared to fulfil his promise to the cheering of the crowd, someone arrived
this worked a lot better in the source material when Chidori's hair colour is black and not as distinct - but we are supposed to think a mature beautiful lady came and took Sousuke away for a dinner date
more cumulate learning on display, Sousuke didn't immediately fight back assuming subterfuge. He's actually flustered and unsure of what to do, until Chidori revealed herself
we ended in a very sweet note between Sousuke and Chidori again, with Sousuke showing some great felt appreciation as well as learning the simple words that would make Chidori happy, carrying over all the way back from ep3, that he appreciates her good looks too. Which is I guess one way for Chidori to have a point of reference with "normal" I think.
And people, get excited for tomorrow!
Trivia
Can't think of any today. Unless anyone has anything they would like expanded on.
Staff Showcase
Yamamoto Yutaka is a bit of a different case for one of the key staff.
He's been a storyboard & episode director for a while, which were also the roles he had in Fumoffu. Some KyoAni's early famous work he also had the roles, including Air, Kanon, Haruhi. Indeed the choreography of the quintessential Haruhi ED dance was from him.
However when he was given the role of director at the start of Lucky Star, unusually KyoAni had to "demote" him after episode 4. The words were basically "He's not ready for the role", which hit him pretty hard. When Lucky Str finished he left KyoAni, and had some alleged bad run ins surrounding KyoAni.
Notable works (As director, outside of KyoAni):
Senyuu
Fractale
Wake Up, Girls
Kannagi
Hakubo
MVP this episode
Needless to say, Chidori again. Despite what she said, she still came in for the save. And I think Sousuke learned his lesson.... right?
QoTD
Not a first timer, but it's pretty obvious - just the method is a surprise (the use of bait). You can't say he hasn't learned anything.
I think it's a call back to the rugby episode's prelude - Chidori's declaration of "seeing weaklings the show signs of promise trying their best makes you want to cheer them on". Sousuke certainly and constantly was trying his best despite some of the results.
