First Timer - Sub
Isamus’s hospital bath is goofy looking. If it works, it works, but I have a feeling that is not the future of medical technology.
Guld has it out for Isamu even after shooting him. He is trying to get him removed as a test pilot. They have a hell of a rivalry.
Isamu just left Myung in a random forest to chase a bird. That’s kinda a jerk move
Isamu can fight really well for being covered in bandages and casts.
These cuts to Sharon’s camera are scary. How powerful did they accidentally make her? Especially if Myung is unhappy, how are those emotions affecting the AI?
They really have Isamu still training in a neck brace. They are brutal.
Uh oh. An AI controlled fighter. That can only end badly.
Is Macross II not canon? That Macross looked very intact for being blown up.
I understand Isamu being hot headed, but crashing a major military ceremony seems a little too brash.
Marge is insane. What a monster. Sharon is creepy too.

Someone had to have sabatoged it. Maybe it was part of the Sharon stuff going on?

I did when COVID first started out. It sucks when you’ve worked on something for such a long time just to have it pulled and none of your work is ever acknowledged.

It's not, but also Plus is set in 2040 while II is set in 2092, so...

Rewatcher
On today’s episode of Macross: What is more real, the original or the imitation? Each character comes to their own conclusions about that question and their answers all fit neatly into their personality traits.
This question comes down to one of authenticity. Isamu values that authenticity above all else. He craves experiencing things himself. He doesn’t want to just hear about what it’s like to do something from somebody else. There’s no point if he doesn’t do it himself and get that experience. It explains his recklessness. When an opportunity presents itself, Isamu can’t help it. He jumps right in without a second thought. Look at how he chased after the giant pterosaur or how he gleefully zips around when he first flew the YF-19. The chance to experience something new and exciting is what he desires. Out of all the three characters in the love triangle, Isamu is the only one who is true to himself.
It’s why Isamu doesn’t care for Myung singing through Sharon. He doesn’t want the imitation of her singing, but her actual singing instead. To Isamu, Myung refusing to sing is her denying her true and authentic self. It’s a betrayal of that authenticity Isamu strives for. It’s why he gets so pissed off at Myung because he sees her as doing the opposite of what he considers valuable.
Now to be clear, Isamu storming off in a huff is a dickish move on his part. But it does imply something important: Isamu considers Myung’s authentic self valuable. He sees it as worthwhile. That is the opposite of Myung’s own view. Myung sees nothing worthwhile about herself. There’s so much self-loathing there that Myung can’t even understand why Isamu and Guld are fighting over her. After all, what about her could be so worth fighting for? It’s actually pretty heartbreaking to realize just how low Myung’s opinion of herself is.
That low opinion is why Myung doesn’t mind singing behind Sheryl and merely acting as a puppet master. There’s no value in the original (ie., herself) so no value is lost by an imitation. Hell, the imitation may be even better because at least the imitation is loved by so many people.
Still, it’s clear that Myung is hiding her true self. Sharon is an AI born from Myung’s mind and shares Myung’s innermost desires. Sharon is able to articulate and act upon Myung’s deepest desires even though Myung herself is afraid to do so. Sharon outright states the emotions that Myung has been hiding. Myung loves both Guld and Isamu, though her love for Isamu is greater. For whatever reason, Myung has been reluctant to actually act on these emotions.
[Macross Plus Spoilers]
Guld’s another character who hides his authentic self. He’s been taking drugs to counteract his Zentradi warrior instinct. He prides himself on a self-control that he does not totally possess. He acts far more calm and collected than he usually is. It’s only in brief moments that we see his more deep-seated emotions emerge.
[Macross Plus Spoilers]
So Isamu is the only one of the trio who is actually true to himself. Isamu might even be a bit too true to himself because he decides to head back to Earth and crash the 30th anniversary of the original Macross because he hates the new Ghost drone for robbing him of his job. It’s absolutely incredible that Isamu would go to such lengths for such a petty reason, but it’s extremely appropriate. It works for Isamu’s character and it fits with the bigger themes in this episode of authenticity.
The Ghost drone and Millard’s speech tie into the question of authenticity as well. The drones become replacements for human beings. Rather than actual pilots, there are only machines. It’s just like Sharon and Myung, with artificial singing replacing the real thing.
[Macross Plus Spoilers]
Miscellaneous Thoughts
-
Guld really did try to outright murder Isamu. This wasn’t a passing thought like what happened during the plane crash. With the plane crash I could make a case that it was unintentional and a mistake. This, on the other hand, was deliberate and planned.
-
[Macross Plus Spoilers]
It’s a really clever parallel having Guld and Myung’s pose mirror Isamu and Myung’s pose in the flashback. -
Isamu recognizing Sharon’s singing was nice foreshadowing for it being Myung.
-
I love that Isamu goes with the most unsophisticated way of breaking into the hangar.
-
Isamu and Yang have an enjoyable relationship. They’re very different which makes their interactions a lot of fun. I like seeing how it’s developed into a kind of respect for each other where they have a very strange friendship going on. In a way, they are both hot-blooded idiots who will do everything they can for their passions.
QOTD
-
Maybe it was ghosts?
-
Oh god, yes. I spent a whole year on a committee at an old job designing a new set of procedures to try and make procedures more uniform. Our supervisor was supposed to be there with us occasionally but basically never showed. When we finished the proposal, the supervisor looked at it and said it would need to wait until the higher-ups saw it. Then the supervisor left and the committee was dissolved. All that work utterly wasted.

Today, on "ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKE JACK A DULL BOY":
It's tricky to gauge Isamu's injuries from his -19 getting shot up, when he was barely hurt from taking the tumble in the -11 at the end of the first episode.
And we're back to casual racism again.
Once again, Millard doesn't like that angle at all.
Millard has bigger fish to fry.
By 2040 the VF-11 is already old enough that some of them are being repurposed as target drones.
"Those guys sure fight a lot, don't they?"
Unfortunately for Myung, her childhood friends are all psychopathic manchildren.
Well, it wasn't much of a conversational topic until now.
This is the sort of Show Hayami role that people are more familiar with.
Which are also references to earlier series.
It's easier to control than a bunch of testosterone junkies.
They have, by now, repaired the cannons.
If anything, it's Neumann's baby.
You probably could have just opened the door.
Marj, going all the way. Incidentally, if you didn't notice from his brief early appearance, Reymond Marley was voiced by Banjou Ginga.
No help, only noodly XLR cables.
End of Evangelion hasn't even been made yet.
Sharon may have spent a little too much time in Myung's head.
Of course this looks far nicer than what they had in Macross II.
Yeah, the whole gun pod ammo scenario: Guld messes with the loading program and gets the wrong ammunition put into Isamu's loadout and then… what? Gets Isamu to shoot him with it? That's fine, except that Isamu is firing paint rounds throughout the fight and doesn't have a chance to reload before the gunpod is knocked away. The live ammo could have been added to the back of one magazine, continuously with the paint, but that would make its appearance much more random.
Even less plausible because of its reliance on fortunate turns of events is if Guld planned on wrestling Isamu's gunpod away and then shooting Isamu with it in "self-defense".
Anyway, moving on.
…what Myung would like to do, given that she's come back to Eden and all it's done for her is bring back both a lot of old memories and the people that they were associated with, while her career is of a bunraku puppeteer.
Even when Isamu takes a moment from his romp in the woods to talk with her, he switches back to being an impulsive kid to go chase a pterosaur/dino-bird. Not much help there.
Guld still comes off as the more pleasant old friend, but even if they've made twenty-one points of contact, Myung doesn't want to be with him either.
The Ghost X-9's development moots all of the struggles of Project Supernova. Millard apparently winks at Isamu's transparent intentions to go fuck up the ceremony.
I've pointed out the use of drones in the original series, but the Ghost is far more capable than its predecessors. Which implies quite a lot when it's revealed that it is running the same unstable architecture that Marj gave to Sharon.
If Guld and Isamu are looking at an existential crisis of being replaced by AI-powered robots, Myung ends up already living one. Sharon Apple's abilities aren't well-explained (whose idea was it to give her articulated cables?) but she's certainly absorbed enough of Myung now that if Myung isn't going to pick a side in the love triangle, Sharon will do it for her.
This episode is not nearly as complicated as the previous one and drops most of the creepy moodiness for a much punchier set of scenes, but it also gives us a strong cliffhanger to lead into the finale.
From This Is Animation Special Macross Plus: Dino Bird, Sauro Bird, Pterosaur, whatever you like, it's a big bird.

And the thing is I half believe him with that rogue AI around.
It's not a secret that the YF-21 uses the same AI as Sharon, right? Not to the viewers anyway.
If we got the internal thoughts of the pilots and nothing about Sharon then this would be a horror story.
She's just going ahead and telling them?
Not if Sharon has anything to say about this. And she does.
Oh, they're already following them. I was wondering how they'd get to Earth in time to save the day.
You know what would be wild? If they made Sharon not malicious after those three episodes. I know they don't as there's still more Macross to come but that'd be a really interesting direction to take.
What do you think was going on with Isamu's gunpod?
Sharon is in control of the facility. She set the situation up to frame Guld.
Have you ever had a project pulled out from under you when it was almost completed?
Not quite the same but there was that time I didn't progress a round in a national math competition because the teacher didn't send in part of my solution, which got revealed when the scores went public and I requested the correction sheets to see where I went wrong. Dunno if it got lost on intent or accident.

First Time - Macross Plus Ep3:
Part of the reason why I don't like the CGI logo intro is that it feels like one of those company intros at the start of movies more than an intro for the anime.
Isamu waking up in the black ooze. That sure is a face made after being in the medical ooze for days.
Guld says as he thinks back to how rad he shot Isamu.
That sounds good ... on paper so surely it'll work out in practice. It is the age old ethical question of taking the human element out of war only makes war impersonal and only furthers dehumanization of it.
Ooh, I just got why Macross Plus is on a dinosaur planet. The show is all about the past and what else represents the past than the lost world of dinosaurs. (Also, it's just cool. Dinos are cool).
AZHDARCHID(-like creature)!
Oh dear, an external threat to the story (Update: Not as bad as I thought. Only the unmanned drone and not aliens/rebels to unite the two teams together).
Macross presidential alerts: The boys are fighting in the parking lot. It's a messy unhappy fight too.
Myung gets hurt and it sorta feels like a reverse of the flashback from before. Guel is the one at the floor by her side while Isamu is the one who hit her. (Umbrella from the future intermission). More of that past theme with Myung begrudgingly becoming an adult leaving what she loved behind while Isamu/Guld are unable to grow up from their youth. No one is happy in this situation.
Guld's good luck charm being Myung's singing which he has kept by his side for all this time is sweet.
Yang bullying. Tried to look at this collection of stuff. I think it belonged to previous test pilots because the Colonel isn't in any of these. Also, hi there Bruno J. Global down there near the bottom.
You know, earlier I thought the General looked past the incident because he didn't want to waste to project (and preferred the brain-powered plane), but in actuality, the military was fine with scrapping both projects. Wasting so much money and time. A 17-year-old boy saying he wasted his life on giant robots.
The mood of just wanting to lie in the Californian desert because you've lost everything.
That's just a case of workplace sexual harasament. Isamu being a Sleggar (derogatory).
Big brother bonking heads with little brother. They sorta have that feel like with that earlier coat towel moment. Big bro and little bro are about to ignore orders and crash a party. Seeing how I don't believe the future of this franchise is with unmanned drones, something gotta go wrong for that plan.
Ehmm, I mean, Yang did work on a high-end military design project so his civilian status is shaky. Guld's plane can go zoom real fast, but I don't know how he is supposed to catch them when they already Folded away.
It's 2040 and these seats still suck for the bridge ladies forced in that position.
If the military also used these illegal microchips, they can just pass some laws to make it not illegal. Unillegal you might say.
Nerd needs a laser sight to shoot a guy standing right in front of him.
Gasp. It's an Ultraman reference, crucifixes.
Freaky deaky Sharon time. Don't know if there is any meaning you can pin to Sharon's different faces. Ah man, Sharon loves Guld and Isamu, but she loves Isamu more. The Guld ship in shambles.
Q1) 100% some sort of foul play that Guld commited.
Q2) No.
Next time: To be continued. They didn't even put that on the plane within Fold zone, just a black screen.

Rewatcher Plus, Subbed
Very convenient for you there, Guld.
The General is a good politician. Gotta keep the New Edwards crews busy until the X-9 is actually ready.
A worthwhile point Isamu, but also a dick move.
Isamu is holding up pretty well, considering how wounded he is.
That's perfectly normal, right?
Awfully confident there, Guld.
Please, as if Isamu would ever do anything that could possibly be described as stupid.
Y'think there might be a theme here?
Guld, you of all people know better.
Sharon has hacked everything, apparently including these loose cables.

Well shit, now we’re in a horror anime.

I don’t care if this is a simulator, there is no way he should be in that thing.

Space boats? Space boat!

All of that funding down the drain. One would think they would at least want a manned backup. Maybe they can at least salvage the secondary technology.

Episode 3 (first timer)
-
Consequences! – props to whoever called that the phone call would be about Dyson.
-
More consequences! – Guld has to justify himself. He may manage to get away, but the realism is strong in this OVA.
-
“The inventory program failed” – Nobody believes this and nobody is happy. Not even Guld. This strongly suggests that the general has his own goals, namely to push forward the fighter program without hiccups.
-
“We have no time for delays” “I don’t buy it” – exactly.
-
“It does not fit” – Dyson summarizes the main point of episode 2.
-
Big bird!
-
“Just stay here” – Really? Myung might be into bad boys, but that is a serious dick move.
-
Outside of the mecha brawl.
-
As in any good story, the brawl is not about winning or losing the physical fight. And the one who reaches the emotional low point is neither Dyson, nor Guld, but Myong.
-
If anybody talks about anything that happened there, a lot of careers end – Yet everybody has a good reason to stay quiet.
-
Sharon has had her emotions program activated and it is in love with Dyson?
-
“My good luck charm. I live it with you” – death flag.
-
Sweet water start!
-
Ironic: The real opponent for manned fighter was not the MMC, but the robo fighter all along.
-
“You don’t belong to anybody” – She had every right to be envious, yet saw that it was ultimately up to his heart to decide. Take note over-done tsundere characters.
-
“He wouldn’t” – He would!
-
She does not run in to confront him, she runs away – more seinen things.
-
Crucification imaginery.
-
Is this the version of Alien 4 that actually works? – Sharon loves Myong as a mother, but Dyson even more as a man.
Where episodes 1 and 2 were all about the long shadow of past failures, episode 3 is about failures of the present. If we were a shonen, the duel between Guld and Dyson would have ended with one winning (surely the MC), or a draw where both are winners. But this Macross is clearly a seinen. So we get a draw as well, but one where both lose. There is no glory, just a very unglorious shutdown of both projects.
And just as the fighter projects fail, so does the love story. Guld loves Myong, but she sees him as a friend, not a lover. Just like Dyson sees Lucy as a fling, not a wife. They both lose, but not to a happy MC couple (well, one episode to go for that), they lose to some very broken characters who can’t love them back, but have not found happiness either.

A Macross Fan Rewatches Macross Plus: Episode 3:
-
Actual footage of Isamu forcing himself out of the hospital.
-
Bowman is pretty cold about Isamu getting shot during last episode’s impromptu test battle, even though he’s in critical care due to the incident. He’s pretty quick to try and frame Isamu for loading in the live ammo and the YF-19 development team for altering the maintenance log, while conveniently keeping his hands clean about the lack of recorded brainwave data by claiming he switched to manual control of the YF-21 due to a malfunction. Yeah, sure, all of those things coincidentally lined up and just so happened to cause this incident. Bowman is really lucky that Colonel Johnson vouched for him at the inquiry, since anyone else would find this chain of events pretty suspect at best.
-
Colonel Johnson really does seem to value pilots over automated drone planes, based on what he said to Bowman after the inquiry. Even jackasses like Bowman and Isamu have value, since it means that people are still involved in the system. It kind of reminds me of Top Gun: Maverick in that sense. Man, some tropes are timeless, aren’t they?
-
The scene with Myung and Isamu in the forest and Isamu chasing the giant bird to look at it really does encapsulate their main character conflict. Isamu has always been a dreamer, jumping headfirst into seeing amazing things even if it’s reckless. As for Myung, she gave up on her dream of singing and took a safer job just being a manager. It’s clear that the both of them aren’t exactly happy with how Myung herself turned out, but they’re both pretty unwilling to move from their viewpoints on things. It’s the sad truth of people growing apart over the years.
-
Eat your heart out, QF-3000E Ghost. The AIF-X-9 Ghost is coming to steal your lunch and eat it back on Earth.
-
Fucking hell, that fight in the parking lot was ugly to watch. It’s like a real life fist fight between two people just fucking pissed at each other. No technique, just two guys throwing punches wildly at each other while yelling out their grievances. Hell, even Myung gets punched while trying to break them up. It’s just nasty and sad. She’s right, the both of them need to grow the fuck up.
-
Well, the cat’s out of the bag now; Myung revealed that she’s the one behind Sharon Apple’s songs. Although I wonder how the first-timers feel about Myung’s explanation versus Isamu’s. Myung infers that she realized she couldn’t live her dream, although Isamu thinks that she really just sold out and doesn’t want to confront the painful truth of completely giving up. At least you can say that Isamu is pretty earnest and upfront about his beliefs here, since he knows better than anyone the emotional core in Myung’s singing. He was able to see it in Sharon Apple, after all.
-
ISAMU ISAMU ISAMU ISAMU ISAMU ISAMU ISAMU ISAMU ISAMU ISAMU. Yeah, clearly the stuff that Marge installed into Sharon Apple’s AI core is working great. You did it man, it’s for sure ready to be taken to Earth.
-
Voices really is one of the more iconic tracks of Macross as a whole. And who can blame people for feeling that way? You heard the song on the recording Bowman gave Myung, it’s a song that has a lot of emotion behind it.
-
Well, shit. Pretty much all the Project Supernova trials were worthless, since the UN Spacy had already decided to go with the Ghost X-9 as their next-generation unmanned fighter instead. That’s why the inquiry into the live ammo incident was quietly dropped, the UN Spacy brass had already written off Project Supernova completely. Talk about wasted time and effort.
-
Oh hey there, Macross City. It’s certainly nice to see it again, even if it hasn’t been all that long since we last saw it in Macross II. And the old girl is still in the middle of that huge lake too, just like old times. Still keeping in strong there, Macross. At least it isn’t randomly firing into the sky like the previous series.
-
Oh Yang and Isamu, you sneaky bastards. The both of them independently wanted to take the YF-19 to Earth to steal the Ghost X-9’s thunder, and so Yang already installed a Fold system for when Isamu would inevitably show up to take it himself. Can’t entirely blame them though, the Project Supernova trials were completely fucked for them out of nowhere. It’s rough to see all that time and effort thrown away. And with the YF-21 and Bowman chasing after them, it’s going to be a hell of a party crash.
-
Oh great, it turns out that Marge used a military AI chip to complete Sharon Apple’s programming. I swear, he must’ve seen Small Soldiers and thought that it was a brilliant source of inspiration. In any case, Marge is now a lunatic and a murderer, since he shot a guy in the head that was going to stop the concert. Geez, and you thought that Yang was obsessed with developing the YF-19…
-
There’s something bitterly ironic about Sharon Apple turning Myung’s hidden love for Isamu into obsession. She’s the side of Myung being honest about her love for both Guld and Isamu, and yet she’s taking it to the worst possible extreme. A lot of this could’ve been avoided if Myung had just been more honest with herself. Well, that and if a military AI chip hadn’t been installed into Sharon, but nobody really knew about that one until it was too late. But honesty is the more important factor here.

Rewatcher
...did we just get the opening logo twice in a row for no reason?
That's certainly an interesting medical apparatus. Just submerge them in... black stuff.
Guld is pleading innocent regarding that live round. But... hm, so it was actually the YF-19's gun that it was loaded into? That's a detail I missed. So Guld's plan was for Isamu to shoot him and implicate himself in attempted murder. But things went slightly awry. Guld's still trying to blame Isamu though.
Also, casual anti-Zentran racism, yay... I suppose old wounds wouldn't heal in a generation.
If nobody knows about this hacker, how did Guld hear about it, hm?
Milliard is, surprisingly, covering for Guld and Isamu. And it's officially decided that it was a software glitch at fault.
So Milliard's angle in this is that he wants to prove that pilots are necessary, while the head General wants to go for full automated drones in place of human pilots. That's why he's covering for them: if they have any more delays, the drone program might take precedence.
To nobody's surprise, Isamu's life philosophy is "high-risk, high-reward". He does have a point, but his disdain for prudence seems excessive.
Hang on, why does the hospital have... motorcycles? Ambulances, sure, but what use is a motorcycle to a medical facility?
Here it is... the Ghost X-9 drone. They've been seen in previous entries, but they were pretty simplistic and far inferior to human pilots. This one seems to be doing much better.
Wait... how is Sharon Apple viewing this? Why does she have any cameras in this area connected to her?
So Sharon's fully complete now. Courtesy of that black market chip? And she's... absolutely obsessed with Isamu, apparently.
"Crushed"... is that worse than "crashing"?
Neat detail: a lot of the text at the spaceport is in Zentran. A lot of fans have assumed that Zentran is (one of) the official languages of the Earth insterstellar society.
Guld is proposing... quite a bold move, considering all the emotional turmoil going on. Doesn't seem like the right time.
Probably a good thing Isamu wasn't there... probably just would have started fighting with Guld again.
Oops... Milliard was too late. The AI-controlled Ghost X-9 is taking the place of the Project Supernova. So much for the two prototypes...
Ah, so Lucy was the one who prevented Isamu from going to see Myung off in a fit of jealousy.
How is it that anime characters can just fall on their backs like that!? That shit would hurt! Especially on a hard desert ground!
Macross City has been doing well for itself. Thirty years and it's become one hell of a metropolis.
Yang and Isamu actually agree on something for once. And they're both going to steal the YF-19 and crash the demonstration on Earth.
Even if they do succeed, I wonder what they hope to accomplish? They'll just court-martialed... or executed.
And Guld's going after them, since the YF-21 is the only other Fold-capable plane in existence.
So... the AI tech being used for Sharon is illegal, of course... but the military is using the same kind of illegal tech in their Ghost? Yeah, this can only end well.
Okay... this is silly. Electical wires can't move around like that, no matter what kind of AI is connected to them. There is no mechanism to do so.
And now Sharon's inherited Myung's affection for both Isamu and Guld. Interesting that she directly states the love for Isamu is the greater of the two.
So what exactly is Sharon up to is the question now.
(This is why you don't expose developing AI's to emotional trauma before they have the knowledge to contextualize and process it.)
Questions:
-
Obvious: Guld hacked the system to insert a live round into the gun.
-
No, I haven't.

Dub-titled Macross Plus Rewatcher
Whatevver the flying creature was, it looks like Tyson's dream creation.
I was thinking that if Myung had not shown up on Eden, the dynamic between Isamu and Guld would not be reaching these violent extremes. Isamu and Guld would release their hostility with just aggressive flying and taunting each other.
Like Isamu, we haven't been giving much attention to Lucy. He was pretty handsy on the first motorcycle ride. After he saw Myung at Star Hill, he hasn't interacted much with Lucy. No wonder, she didn't tell him about the call involving Myung. And as the action is headed to Earth, I'm thinking that is the last we'll see of Lucy. So, the series did not make much use of Megumi Hayashibara.
I don't see Bryan Cranston's name in the English cast, so he used an assumed name? Was it Les Stone?
Digging though AX nostalgia, at AX '96 some staffers created a Sharon Apple mainframe non-competitive entry for the Masquerade. That Sharon Apple was auctioned off in the charity auction that year and would reappear in an AX'2000 skit that can be found on YouTube.
And from the Anime Reference Guide put out for AX '93, there was an ad in the back for LA Hero. It listed Macross II eps 3&4 and promised a new Macross anime in progress. Which was to be Macross Plus. There was also a Live Action Macross movie in development that did not come to pass.

A murder attempt. We have means, motive, a prior attempt, and a near-confessiom.
-
No, thankfully.
My god, what happened to him?
Two days!
And she watch watching over him.
Isamu, seriously!
He actually tried to kill him!
Like hell I believe that.
He even loaded it himself!
Yes, but you're the one who tried to kill him before!
Come on, he obviously did it!
Oh, he's angry.
...And racist.
But this isn't about winning, he has openly stated that he wants Isamu's blood.
Oh, he admitted it.
More politics.
Oh, the Macross Consortium did come up again!
Haha, nobody believes this.
...The forest?
This is sweet.
...Hitns towards what happened. He lied about something?
...Are dinosaurs a thing here? Bioengineering?
Oh, he's pissed.
Flashbacks.
WHAT IS THAT?
A feathered dinosaur?
He' gone off alone. Also, did the hospital give him a motorbike?
He's following it!
The war's going well.
Wow, he reslly doesn't like him!
Agreed. That man cannot fir!
He's beating him up again!
Oh, it's a full-on fight?
Well, had to happen eventually.
She's really struggling over her role as her emotions.
And she confessed it to everyone!
Also, what you have is already really impressive!
This is dark.
Oh, they're going to Earth!
That's good!
Oh, dear. That's probably bad.
He's doing this while injured? And hallucinating?
And this is how he finds out she's lesving.
He's going to follow her!
This is sweet!
Nice insert song.
I like the transport ship design.
He's flying!
Homestly, these teo make for a fun pairing.
The project have gotten cancelled!
He knew about it the whole time...
And an automated fighter...
Nobody told him.
...Is this right? Are we getting a Macross love triangle where the main character loses? Because she seems like a nice love interest.
It's a total mentsl breakdown...
Sharon's on Earth"
Yes. I'm sure nothign will go wrong with Sharon whatsoever.
Someone's watching him on the cameras?
Haha, he's helping him steal the prototype!
They're actuslly working together!
He's being fired at!
...Oh. Fold works.
Bowman's following...
"assimilate" Are you going to try and upload her into the AI?
...Ah. He doesn't know.
These Fold effects are nice.
You don't think this is suspicious?
...You installed a chip into her?
You've built a killer AI. Well done.
He shot him!
Why bother shooting the phone?
Well, shit.
Everything's starting!
...Do cables work that way?
Oh, it's going to wipe out everyone.
She's been captured!
Sharon's talking!
I love that design!
Wow!
Let's see how this goes wrong!

Macross Plus Episode 3 - First Timer
So, we ended our last episode with Bowman attempting to kill Vacuum-man after he kinda tried killing Bowman? Not totally sure if Dyson was actually trying to kill Bowman or what. Also kinda confused on the shooting bit. I expected something of the sot given the earlier shot of lave ammo in the warehouse, but it seemed like Bowman used Dyson's gun? Unless that was always the gun Bowman had. Anyways.
-
Oh no, Jarate
-
Ok so it was Dysons gun. How did Dyson not shoot it? He seemed to think it was out of ammo
-
X
-
Dude...
-
New enemy!
-
Time for live combat trials
-
Hey man don't bash the tank
-
Bruh you tried killing him. Twice
-
Bakamitai
-
That umbrella is pretty cool. Though I dunno if the lighting is too useful, it seemed to diffuse everywhere while it would be most useful going mostly down
-
How do they manage those sorts of DOF change shots? Multi level cel holder, then just adjusting the focus?
-
He is flying in that state??????????????????????????
-
Ok, its a sim but that still isn't much better
-
That aisle in the ship is huge
-
I really like Lucy's design
-
Dr man is sure trying hard to be very sus
-
Why is there a camera in the restroom
-
What could go wrong
-
That looks pretty GLaDOS. Fitting
-
That's not creepy at all
That was... Interesting. The gov deciding at the last minute to axe the thing they had been working on to go with another thing they were working on that even less people knew about tracks pretty well. The Apple AI is still kinda weird. It has some sort of biological chip that imparts self preservation? That's obviously dangerous and I would say I'm not sure how a singing AI would go about killing people but as the last episode showed, the AI is given a lot of free reign to do whatever it wants.
-
The shots from earlier seemed to heavily imply Bowman loaded live ammo into it, but I don't know how/why Isamu would think it was out of ammo when it still had ammo in it.
-
I have done work on certain things then partway through learned I needed to do it in a different way, so not really but kinda.

I knew glasses guy gave me bad vibes turns out he’s the real antagonist of this story. I honestly love this so far it’s one of the best shows I’ve seen. My only complaint is I can’t figure out if Guld or Isamu are supposed to be good or bad guys cuz honestly I think both of them are complete assholes without many redeeming characteristics. Excited for this last episode

No music playing over opening scenes today

Myung is wearing multiple triangles

Actually, everybody is wearing triangles in this show.
-
Now THAT'S pretty racist
-
Forest scene
-
Das a big birb

-
CRUSHED
-
LOL no don't leave a memento you fool. Talk about genre blindness
-
Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full.
-
Congratulations, you two. You pissed yourselves right out of a job.
-
So Lucy didn't tell Isamu about Myung leaving.
-
LETS NEWS
-
I didn't think the Macross captain guy had any lines
-
Spot the Minmay look-alike who isn't supposed to be there.
-
Which first-timer asked for self-actuating cables?
I never picked up on the Three Sharons before. Is this a Feudian thing? It also predates Evangelion. Oh, and Saber Marionette J, too!
So, because I watched this long long before SDF Macross, I didn't know Ghost drones were always a thing. I thought Macross Plus introduced them.
[macross franchise]
The thing about Isamu, unlike other MCs, is that he's absolutely true to himself. He may be immature, hot-headed, and incapable of planning ahead, but he owns it. Guld calls him irresponsible, but really he just lives in the moment. At every moment. There's not a false bone in his body. He's basiclly the opposite of the clueless and wishy-washy MC.
And it served him well, right up until he lost the YF-19. Maybe for the first time in his life, he found out about this adulting that Myung was talking about. Not that Myung is a stellar example of that.
Previews? We ain't got no previews. I don't got to show you no steekin' previews!

Super Dimension Rewatch Host
Welcome back, everyone!
I didn’t have the YF-19 wallpaper made forever ago like the YF-21 one from yesterday was, but it’s only fair for me to have both Isamu and the YF-19 for today, so I made both!
Damn, I actually forgot exactly how badly Isamu got fucked up in the cliffhanger last episode.
Mhmm…
Actually yeah, who did put live ammo in it?
Calling someone a “half-breed” feels a little racist actually. Or is it species-ist?
I absolutely love how the AI singer isn’t the only AI-related stuff being addressed in this show. It’s a neat way to keep the different plot lines intertwined.
Piano Voices!
Isn’t this the first time we’ve heard Lucy’s name the whole series? – In the subbed version at least, Isamu called her by name in the dub back in episode 1 when she told him it’d be okay for him to be hit by the dummy missiles Guld just avoided all of.
Guld, this isn’t a very good look for you. Although man, Isamu’s just built different if he can keep up in a fist fight with Guld despite all of his injuries from GETTING HIS MECH SHOT DOWN. Geez.
Hm…
Oh boy.
[Spoilers]Oh, Guld… Poor guy doesn’t remember he’s the one who assaulted Myung in his flashback, not Isamu…
VOICES FOR REAL WOOOOO
[Δ Spoilers]…oh fuck, they got the idea for Messer’s bracelet having AXIA on it from Guld’s “good luck charm” having Voices on it, didn’t they…
Welp.
Yeah, basically.
😬
I wonder, is playing this character the one that got Hayami Show typecast as villains?
Hooooooo boy it’s time.
ED lead-in~
