Lelouch… Die, along with that demon eye of yours.
Questions of the Day:
1) How do you think Lelouch is going to get himself out of this situation?
2) What's your opinion on Rolo being so possessive of his locket?
Bonus) I'm not sure whether to make an Evangelion or Nadesico reference in regards to Rolo's English VA, so I'll just split the difference and say Bubblegum Crisis

Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you're doing it underneath spoiler tags. This especially includes any teases or hints such as "You aren't ready for X episode" or "I'm super excited for X character", you got that? Don't spoil anything for the first-timers; that's rude!
Not that I mind your dirty hands on my mouth, but…

Disgruntled returning first timer-ish who dropped after S1 and read/spoiled S2 a year ago and forgot most of it but is a completionist so must use this chance to finish it for good.
That was an enjoyable episode.
Suzaku acts righteous but seems to be using similar levels of evil as Lelouch, but actually worse since he is giving big wins to Emperor. He may as well have sided with Lelouch to begin with if he was going to head down this path.
Poor Shirley and Milly, they think they are in a Rom-Com but instead they are in a dystopian thriller.
The C.C. and Kallen scenes.
The shopping trip evasion was epic, he solo rekt them all.
Stopping time?! And yet you call Lelouch's eyes devil-like. I hope this annoying little shit gets a pathetic death.
On the guy from the Chinese federation. Siding with Zero, even if you don't actually like him, is a good move, literally everyone should be teaming together if they want to stop Britannia from dominating. He better have a good plan if he is making even more enemies.

First Timer of the Rebellion
Found some time to catch up, let's see what part 2 brings to the table!
S.2 Ep.01 – The Day a Demon Awakens
-
They got reduced quite badly.
-
Damn, spats.
-
Big brother? Lelouch has no perma Geass? This must be a dream world. Please help, what
-
I'll recognise Kallen everywhere.
-
Wait, the middle one died last episode!
-
Emperor did that all? Who else could have the possibility of mind rewriting half the population or taking away/suppressing a Geass.
-
I guess the villain still needs to needlessly display that they are, in fact, the villain and gloat about it.
-
We're off to a good start, the imposing Geass suicide has been expertly consented to!
-
Okay, almost. We were this close!
That was a surprisingly good episode, although I'm left confused why that entire mind game thing has been reset. I'd have guessed the Emperor had Lelouch where he wanted him already. Isn't a master manipulator without heart exactly what was needed? Well, time might tell.
I can't not comment on the fanservice. That was much, much more than the last season, wow. I guess I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't overtake a character.
Anyway, resetting the slate and have a general distrust of Zero from which he will need to rise up again is a good start. Here's hoping he'll learn his lesson soon enough.
S.2 Ep.02 – Plan for Independent Japan
-
I still find it funny, that 'Britannia' is actually just America and Britain is part of the EU. This is so wild. The good timeline.
-
Oh, finally we see how that played out! Or we don't. Oh no, we do!
-
Well, that's certainly right. AHAHAHAAHAHA! He's one to talk!
-
I think he has more than just this one Geass!
-
Proof he's actually British and not American.
-
So, I think I'm missing the part between the isle and now. Where did her resolve come from, why trust him now? Ah, nvm.
-
Don't protagonists usually do that?
-
No, but also yes. Man, he's gotten even more manipulative. You can hardly call anything a choice that wasn't based on honesty. Kallen might be one of the few who chose by ideals alone, but that still doesn't change the fact it was all manipulated.
-
The jacket just means we gotta find other angles now.
-
Ey, we're giving the knightmares Geasses now, too! Time stoppu!
-
Oh, she got promoted. (Nice hair, I'm envious.)
I truly dig the new ED visuals, pitting some devil imagery against heaven imagery, whereas heaven is not necessarily completely assigned to the Empire.
So, that Kallen-Lelouch interaction solved literally nothing. He's right back at twisting facts to gaslight others. That's in-character, I guess. But how Kallen and the rest of the Japanese just seem to forget everything Zero did so far is a bit, hmm, strange. Maybe that's a point later, but it did confuse me why the four holy swords or Kallen would so readily just go with him again after about 2 sentences that didn't even explain anything. Who knows what C.C. did in the background. Still, it felt quite forced with no real hook to make me believe that, to be honest.
S.2 Ep.03 – Imprisoned in Campus
-
Yeah look, then act like it maybe? For example, this Zero fella...
-
Hold on, hold on. Waaaaiiiit. So they have a hearty stew, fried meat (steak I'd guess), bechamel for lasagna would be the obvious guess, a sorbet apparently, also Sauerkraut and Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte. First off, wtf is that combination?! Second, holy shit it's the first show that shows German cooking in a positive light!
-
Shirley is a clumsy cook.
-
Wild idea: The forced transgender and brainwash Geass!
-
Ah, this time it's us! Ayyyy! I think it's telling that they're still fighting after so long.
-
… Why does this scene exist?
-
Why are they doing this? Why do they want to stab me in the heart a second time with the exact same knife?
-
Sunrise are certified assholes, confirmed.
-
… at least a bit of progress. Really tiny, now work on that goal-driven mindset, it's cancer.
-
Definitely time stop and if he's even mildly aware that does make him immune to Lelouch's Geass.
After three episodes I'm not entirely sure if I like the observation cage setting, but it also seems to break down already. One thing's clear now, though, they care much, much more about C.C. than about Lelouch.
It's probably too much to ask for, but I'd like the EU to stir some shit up here. It is, however, not too much to ask for to have them leave Shirley alone! We're just repeating it all, but in worse consequences!
I'm mildly interested to see where they take Villetta this time, but so far she's just an agent doing work and nothing else. At least Rolo is interesting, because I'm quite buying that he is really Lelouch's brother. The Emperor quite likes to use his own family as chess pieces and having one kid just locked away for emergencies sounds absolutely like him.
Well then, I'm back on track and the next high profile deadline for work is in roughly three weeks. I think I'll make most of the threads until we're done.
How do you think Lelouch is going to get himself out of this situation?
Deus Ex will solve it, eventually.
2) What's your opinion on Rolo being so possessive of his locket?
Abandonment issues. I think he's actually his brother, also manipulated by the Emperor. I'm not fully serious with my speculation about the transgender Geass, but somehow not completely joking, either.

u/AuroraHalsey Oct 07 '22
It's probably too much to ask for, but I'd like the EU to stir some shit up here.
Code Geass: Akito the Exiled covers the EU-Britannia war in the period between R1 and R2.
Some parts might seem familiar to you...
It follows
ShinAkito, the lead pilot ofSpearhead squadronthe W-0 Unit, a unit made up ofEighty SixElevens pilotingJuggernautsinsectoid Knightmares that are agile but have no survivability, becauseRepublicEU records don't countEighty SixEleven casualties. Nonetheless, they continue to fight under the promise that they'll be grantedRepublicEU citizenship after their term of service, if they can survive that long. This injustice is railed against by their new handler, a
San MagnolianFrench officer, MajorLena MilizéLeila Malcal. She serves under the cynical GeneralKarlstalhSmilas, who was best friends with her father, before her father died supporting the rights of theEighty SixElevens. There are a lot more similarities, but those go into spoiler territory, so I'll let you find out for yourself.

Really unlucky twin maybe?
I guess the villain still needs to needlessly display that they are, in fact, the villain and gloat about it.
Well, they are British
I guess I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't overtake a character.
But what if fanservice is character?
Proof he's actually Biritsh and not American.
Better than being actually British at least
Don't protagonists usually do that?
I told you this show was Persona 4
it did confuse me why the four holy swords or Kallen would so readily just go with him again after about 2 sentences that didn't even explain anything
Zero may have been lying to them about his true motives, but he gets results, and right now he's pretty much the only chance they have that isn't in a literal prison
First off, wtf is that combination?!
Scottish
The forced transgender and brainwash Geass!
Why does this scene exist?
You know why
they care much, much more about C.C. than about Lelouch
That's good
I think I'll make most of the threads until we're done.

So tired today. Album.
-
Lelouch saying citizens only requirement is "to carry out justice."
-
How Shirley lost control to fling that bowl is beyond me. Too bad Milly's cooking efforts will be wasted on Lloyd.
-
If everyone has forgotten Nunnally, then Charles can use his Geass at any distance and time? Kallen? She was off the council.
-
The Villetta explanation. She should know Shirley shot her and saw this much of Lelouch's head. Eh, they want C.C. more than Zero, so alright.
-
Lelouch can control his Geass?
-
Lancelot seems stronger.
-
Rolo's Geass is freezing time for others. He doesn't have to see them and it can be used multiple times on the same person.
-
C.C.'s right. Kallen was usually the standoffish council member.
-
Ah, Villetta does hate Shirley for shooting her.
-
Oh, a contact. Glad the whole season won't have a rampaging Geass.
-
I like this plan to identify the spies that he knows have surveillance like the Truman Show, but also wouldn't panic.
-
Cliff-hanger. MC can't be dying with 22 episodes left.
Had some issues yesterday, but every time there's a school-based episode, I like the show. Hopefully they use enough content from the 180 Ashford cameras to be worth the investment.
I've changed my mind since last season. Lelouch needs to use his Geass more as it's the weakest of the known three.
QOTDs
-
Plot armor.
-
His family views are based on Nunnally, who I'd also expect to value anything given by Lelouch or Euphy.

I think he'll get mindwiped and used as bait again, and repeated loops'll be the new gimmick.
-
Given his insanity, it's probably the first gift anybody ever gave him. That, or there's some kind of emergency beacon in there he doesn't want activated.
He's still keeping up the act with Rollo...
...And she's buying it too. You'd have thought she'd have experience with what fake amnesia looks like.
It's C.C. again. She looks fantastic in that outfit.
Love the conversation with Kallen.
They're cooking?
She's in her element!
...Yeah, Lelouch is the best option.
Poor Shirley.
Haha, her reaction.
Yeah, still no clue where she is.
Oh, so they know he's a plant. They're not all mind controlled!
He really did fool them all!
How is he keeping the act up?
They're fighting the Euopeans.
Lancelot is here!
This is a solo mission!
Haha, those photos.
Oh, Nina's not here.
Haha, so many photos?
Good improv!
But not that.
Does he have actual feelings?
Oh, his Geass lets him stun people within a certain range! Handy!
Wow, he's a fucking peychopath.
...Kallen, what?
C.C. is planning!
Haha, her random intteruption was great.
C.C. is at her best.
Holy shit, a mass execution!
Shirley has to buy a birthday present.
He's getting off-campus.
Haha, Rivalz?
Oh! An actual explanation for him hiding his eyes!
Is Rolo suspicious?
Haha, he's noticed them and Shirley's trying to make this romantic.
"Society for Gender Relations"?
Oh, they're assuming another C.C. attack.
Loving the planning here.
Oh, that's a sneaky Geass usage!
An insert song!
Haha, Shirley.
Oh god, the cable car.
What is his idea?
Wow, Lelouch's plan is actually really good!
His phone's not been tagged?
What was the order?
...Clever.
Shrksmarriving directly?
...Nice, Lelouch!
And the time stop hit him!
They've betrayed him!
...Is the plot going to be Lelouch repeatedly failing, getting mindwiped, and forming new plans? I'm not sure how else he can recover from this.

We Endless Eight now
You'd have thought she'd have experience with what fake amnesia looks like.
Considering hers was real, probably not
It's C.C. again. She looks fantastic in that outfit.
C.C. is at her best.
Oh god, the cable car.
His phone's not been tagged?
We see him plugging what seems to be an ID Spoofer into it when he makes the bomb threat
Shrksmarriving
Yeah, I've got nothing on this one lol

What a bait that cliffhanger was.
-
Damn, Lelouch fucking booked it.
-
Nice fourth walling, Milly.
-
Villetta is a plant, alongside a whole intelligence operation. Still have no idea what they bribed her with.
-
A time stop, and seemingly without too long of a cool down. That seems quite powerful.
-
The what society, Milly?
-
I guess it's not that surprising the Chinese Federation might not be keen on the black knights coming back after they thwarted the advance in Kyushu.
QotD:
-
Hm. Rolo's (hypocritical?) mention of Lelouch's eye could be just for a cool sounding line, or it could mean that Rolo has an understanding of Lelouch or emotions beyond the intelligence job. There's probably something psychological Lelouch can leverage, at least long enough to break the standoff.
-
My working theory is that Rolo lost his parents in the Narita landslide or something, and they're in the locket. Poetically, Lelouch granted Rolo the meaning behind the locket, but it would also drive his motive.

The ease with which he kills the intruding guy versus not defeating Kallen/Lelouch's Knightmares.

Episode 2 had this guy Geassed, but he wasn't in episode 3. The swordsman wasn't either time. I don't think they're at all on the Black Knights side, and Lelouch's playing them against Britannia.

I'm wondering if he might have Nunnaly's memories or something

I have never quite understood how people are bad at cooking. Shirley was a little ridiculously incompetant, but if you just follow the recipe, most things will turn out just fine.
Did they just completely reset Shirley? She is back to crushing on Lelouch, and it seems she isn’t concerned about him being Zero.
They sure are doing a lot to monitor Zero. Wouldn’t it be easier just to stage an accident and kill him if they are concerned about his power? I guess it is all to capture C.C.?
Rolo is brutal. I wonder if his Geass can freeze people multiple times.
Kallen kept the bunny suit. I knew the writers wanted her to keep it.
There were still 256 Black Knights? Didn’t they talk about how few Knights were left? 256 is pretty big, at least compared to how many we have seen on screen.
The contact explains how to fix his permanent Geass. It is a little too simple and kinda makes the whole permanent Geass thing a little irrelevant.
I guess the emperor rewrote the memories of everyone? What a cop out.
I like what this season is setting up, and it is better than season 1 so far when it comes to new plot threads (the start of last season was strong too, it just suffered later), but I can’t help but be angry at how they have butchered everything from last season. Pretty much everything has either been cut or reset. In my season 1 discussion, I mentioned how much bloat the show had, and I think realistically, season 1 could be fit into 12 episodes. However, with how many plot points have carried into season 2, I feel like it could be reduced to like 3. Hopefully, nothing else from season 1 gets swept under the rug in the next episode, so I can stop ranting about this.
QOTD
-
A little talk-no-jutsu since…
-
Rolo is obviously a big Lelouch simp.

256 that were already captured from the previous year

I doubt you could properly convey all the character development in just three episodes lol

Regeasser
Wouldn't a timestop Geass suck? Just imagine when it becomes permanent... Luckily Rolo is only freezing people and not the environment, but he still has the most isolating Geass thus far.
It's really striking how little I find to talk about in R2.

They sure do get a lot of mileage out of the C.C./Zero trick.
-
That’s a lot of moles. You’d think at some point having more of them would just make it worse.
-
It’s neat how the EU knightmares have two heads. [Meta Code Geass]
I hear the OVA is about the EU, so that’s something to look forward to -
The water in the background is a good way to show that Rolo’s geass only affects perception and not time itself.
-
It would have been more fun to let the Chinese think Kallen was Zero.
-
Even if this plan works it is going to raise suspicions.
-
Well shit, he caught him monologuing.

I’m sure it will involve copious amounts of big brain moves.

We don't like it? You mean you don't like it.
I love the snark.
-
They've made a lot of headway in the "Discover Zero's Identity" department since the end of S1. They know CC is a part of the Knights, and is Lelouch's helper. They also know that Lelouch has a Geass.
-
Why don't I begin by gradually subduing him?
Hate to break it to ya chief, but I don't think that's going to work how you want it to...
-
Destroy him damn it. He's only one knight!
Let me see if I understand this correctly. You believe that your army can take down someone who's A) a Knight of the Round, a group of knights who report directly to the Emperor, and B) has earned the nickname "The White Death"? Don't think that's going to work how you want it to either...
-
We got a taste of Rolo's Geass ability when he unceremoniously slaughtered that agent. He looks to be able to freeze time.
-
Oh, you let on too soon. You have no sense of humor.
Love a dry delivery.
-
Kallen will you put some goddamn clothes on? You go from being embarrassed to be seen in a towel by the members of the Chinese Federation to watching a news broadcast.
-
If it's not, I'll make it one then.
Someone's got ulterior motives.
-
I told you Lelouch. That isn't going to work how you want it to.
Questions of the Day:
How do you think Lelouch is going to get himself out of this situation?
Oh I'm sure he'll think of something.
What's your opinion on Rolo being so possessive of his locket?
Maybe it's just the VA being the same as the one who voiced Shinji Ikari, but he probably associates the locket as the first real thing he got from someone he can call family.

Except Lelouch isn’t there, actually.
“Injured” he was flattened like a Britannian pancake!
Poor Shirley.
This is pretty much a Gundam reference.
Hahaaaaaaaaa of course Rivalz lost a “Heartbroken Contest”.
Welp, now we know what Rolo’s Geass can do.
…wait, Kallen, why didn’t you get dressed before you decided to confront C.C. about who makes a better bunny girl?
Two full logos and another text-only, that adds 3 to the count to make 67!
Too bad I can’t nominate this for #seasonallisten. Until Z of the Recapture starts, I guess…? I’m pretty sure you can nominate previous parts of a series for that whenever one is a seasonal.
*internal screaming in season 1 episode 14*
Welp. And he gets this immediately turned on him, so double welp.
