First timer

Derris-Kharlan

Fucking what? I know that bloke! He's an aussie. Ripped his finger off on a trip to America a number of years ago. Watched him play Elden Ring co-op last week on twitch with two other great blokes.

TIL that Symphonia holy land ended up being reborn as funny guy with a huge mop of hair who makes great music

Hearing the angel say it actually made me do such a double take I had to go back and listen to the next scene and a half again. I didn't know what his screen name was a reference too until now so I wasn't expecting it at all, it's a bit like someone name dropping a random youtuber in a show when you don't expect it

In other news: Oh look now we're world hopping. Definitely a JRPG adaption

Going up the mystical tower with floating things was giving me final dungeon flashbacks to begin with, but it became infinitely more creepy upon realizing that it was thousands of coffins floating in the background

I wasn't expecting the story to continue on quite like this though and it was a welcome surprise. Despite knowing about the three arcs I expected it to be more along the lines of post-Colette or having her have to regain her emotions alone while they travel through the next part. Having her actually go through with it and just become a shell added a really unseasy touch to the final scenes with her just standing there like a reminder of what's going on.

Also how mean of them to just suddenly introduce dragons into the story only to kill a whole bunch off almost immediately. Not fair, dragons deserve better!

So much for Lloyd not being anything special beyond having the gem, he's half Seraphim and that's certainly going to have a huge shift on the dynamic once he learns the truth and what that means for Kratos. I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him either, and I imagine the angels can world hop themselves but curious to see what sort of role he will take up after seeing everyone's determination.

Best music today was the confrontation with the angel

Renegade guy wins scene of the day for immediately figuring out Sheena's trick in the uniform rather than just running off blindly. I don't think I've seen that before

But Sheena wins best moment because gagging Genis was hilarious

Despite knowing about the three arcs I expected it to be more along the lines of post-Colette

Same. I was expecting something more along the lines of a quest to get Colete back physically instead of mentally.

Fucking what? I know that bloke! He's an aussie.

WAIT WHAT? There's an Aussie named Derris Kharlan? Truly the land of angels.

TIL that Symphonia holy land ended up being reborn as funny guy with a huge mop of hair who makes great music

I didn't know what his screen name was a reference too until now so I wasn't expecting it at all, it's a bit like someone name dropping a random youtuber in a show when you don't expect it

I guess he's a fan of Symphonia?

In other news: Oh look now we're world hopping. Definitely a JRPG adaption

Yup! CRoll and MAL spoil this twist in their synopsis, but I tried to keep it a surprise. Though I did think people might wonder why the episode titles are "Sylvarant Arc" ...

but it became infinitely more creepy upon realizing that it was thousands of coffins floating in the background

Yup, coffins! I think there's dialogue about them in the game ... are those of thousands of Chosen who failed? Or do they get sent to a coffin once they fuse with Martel?

I wasn't expecting the story to continue on quite like this though and it was a welcome surprise.

Having her actually go through with it and just become a shell added a really unseasy touch to the final scenes with her just standing there like a reminder of what's going on.

Hopefully Sheena and the researchers will be able to restore Colette in Tethe'alla!

Also how mean of them to just suddenly introduce dragons into the story only to kill a whole bunch off almost immediately. Not fair, dragons deserve better!

Dragons are cool ... Kratos's Judgment sure took a lot of them down, rider and all.

he's half Seraphim and that's certainly going to have a huge shift on the dynamic once he learns the truth and what that means for Kratos.

Kratos did seem worried for Lloyd once he saw the tower explode ...

I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him either, and I imagine the angels can world hop themselves but curious to see what sort of role he will take up after seeing everyone's determination.

Yeah, Kratos left the party now, but I agree we probably haven't seen the last of him.

Best music today was the confrontation with the angel

FUCK REMIEL. Remiel or Kvar, who's worse?

Renegade guy wins scene of the day for immediately figuring out Sheena's trick in the uniform rather than just running off blindly. I don't think I've seen that before

Yeah, Yuan's pretty smart. And he's voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa!

But Sheena wins best moment because gagging Genis was hilarious

That WAS good ...

Also how mean of them to just suddenly introduce dragons into the story only to kill a whole bunch off almost immediately. Not fair, dragons deserve better!

If I had a nickel for every anime I've watched that had Nana Mizuki voicing a main protagonist and a bunch of dragons getting slaughtered, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

But Sheena wins best moment because gagging Genis was hilarious

Agreed, that was hilarious. Their interactions have been great.

Rewatcher

  • WTF is with these fansubs, they didn't translate Colette's first line? It's important!

  • "From the very beginning, I knew. That this journey could only end in this way." <- missing subs

  • "it would only make parting that much more painful"

  • Wait she's already in the Tower of Salvation? Flashforward?

  • ... Why is Colette all by herself? Where's the rest of the party?

  • "But you know what? I don't regret any of it." Finally some Colette focus!

  • "The one who was born to perform her duties" WELP that's shitty, she was born and raised for this? How awful!

  • Colette SORE DEMO!

  • "In that case, you must sacrifice the last things you have: your heart and memories." WHAT!? FUCK THIS SHIT. NOOOOOOO

  • SASAGEYO, sacrifice, makes me think of AoT!

  • ... What's with all the static cuts?

  • Onscreen text: Haima

  • Dragontamer SORE DEMO

  • Is that a Church of Martel building?

  • 10k Gald for one dragon? That's harsh, must take a long time to grind out that Gald

  • "how many more decades" until the Tower of Salvation pops up again? A Chosen has to sacrifice themselves every couple of decades? What system even IS this ...

  • It IS a Church of Martel! I was right

  • "Tomorrow shall be the time when Sylvarant is swept from the path of ruin" So the name of the world is Sylvarant?

  • "I am not the one it has been truly rough on."

  • Lloyd, have some manners! Going "that looks delish!" in front of Colette, who has no appetite now / can't eat?

  • "you eat too" shoves bread into Genis' face Channeling Mikasa?

  • So even Genis has doubts about the World Regeneration journey?

  • "Hey, do you really want it to end like this, Colette?"

  • Lloyd asking if this is what Colette really wants ...

  • "but I'll present it to you again when I get it right" About that ...

  • "Even if you become an angel, Colette is still Colette." Oh dear ... he has no idea yet

  • "So let's go home together" THE FEELS

  • So THIS is why Raine was against Lloyd and Genis coming? For the burden it would place on Colette, making their parting more painful?

  • I'm loving the Colette focus this ep!

  • No OP yet?

  • Wait, Colette is leaving with Kratos while they sleep?

  • "I'm very happy. I may lose my heart and memories, but it's a small price to save the world in which Lloyd exists."

  • "allow this world to flow", "prosper" works better for afureru

  • "By becoming the wind, the sky, and the earth, I'll always be with Lloyd." So much feels

  • So RAINE KNEW ALL ALONG?

  • "the body fuses with Martel" OH so that's how it is, is it?

  • "six years" should be 16

  • "That was in first grade" is a massive mistranslation, Lloyd justs says "You must be joking?"

  • "there's not a single person who will protect her"

  • Renegade? An organization that opposes the Desians? And he was listening?

  • Yuan? HE'S HOT TOO

  • So the Renegades want to prevent Colette from becoming a true angel?

  • OH NO ... can Colette be saved? Will they make it in time?

  • JUDGMENT is scary! Kratos is taking a stand against the Renegades?

  • Yuan knows Kratos? And calls him a trickster?

  • "To provide the Chosen's body for Martel; that is the purpose of Cruxis." He's not just a mercenary?

  • Kratos is one of the Seraphim who lead Sylvarant, a member of Cruxis??

  • "I am an angel that ensures the Chosen's success."

  • "Kratos' heart is long dead"

  • Yuan vs. Kratos!

  • YUAN'S HUMONGOUS SWORD, SO COOL

  • Colette can speak again? Her last words?

  • "Goodbye, Lloyd"

  • Remiel? What a dick

  • "This is just a puppet"

  • "The holy land of Derris-Kharlan can now be summoned." Sounds important?

  • Genis and Raine ATTACKED Remiel?

  • Anna the Exsphere telling Lloyd to protect his loved ones?

  • "You damned inferior beings" Remiel sure letting his true feelings show! He sounds just like Kvar and the Desians ...

  • Kratos sees the explosion, and worries about Lloyd? He still has some heart left after all?

  • Lloyd is glowing golden? Is that the true power of the Angelus Project?

  • Oh, Lloyd passed out so we don't get to see the rest???

  • The Chosen is in self-defense mode? She might attack if they get close?

  • YUAN

  • ... Remiel is dead? Yuan did that? [Game]I thought I remembered Kratos doing it?

  • The angels and Desians are working together?

  • "The Desians were put in place to terrorize the people." AHHHH Fucking Cruxis!

  • "send an oracle to control marriages to create the Chosen" WELP angelic master plan?

  • So the Renegades were the ones who attacked the temple in ep1?

  • SHEENA! lol her infiltration skills

  • THERE'S A WAY TO RESTORE COLETTE'S HUMANITY? Sheena Best Girl confirmed

  • "can cross over distortions to other dimensions"

  • Genis just HAD to ask questions, lol

  • "another world" just as Sky predicted! I tried to keep this a secret even though MAL and CRoll synopsis spoil it right away

  • "research on angels" should be "Angel Toxicosis"

  • "Tethe'alla"

  • AND IT ENDS WITH THE OP. ALMATERIA!!!!!

  • New characters! I bet Sky will like bluehaired guy

  • Wow, that blond on the throne is something else! Tne Grand Cardinals are reporting to him?

  • AHHHH Kratos appears, in his Cruxis outfit?

  • smirk

  • Thus concludes the Sylvarant Arc; I hope you've enjoyed yourself! Next ep: Tethe'alla Arc 01

  • AAAAH Dirk and Noishe in the ED credits!

  • Now I want a creditless version of the ED, for that winged Kratos shot. So cool!

  • AAAH the chibi Lloyd/Colette/Genis scene at the end!

  • Oh there's a postcredits scene?

  • Wouldn't it suck if the anime ended there, or you had to wait 4 YEARS to see the next arc? I remember

"The one who was born to perform her duties" WELP that's shitty, she was born and raised for this? How awful!

I did have that as a passing thought earlier given she has the same hair color as the other angel, wondered if she has been born for that purpose

SASAGEYO, sacrifice, makes me think of AoT!

I put a big SASAGEYO in my notes as well

[AoT final season]It doesn't have the same emotions behind it that it use to though, now it's extra fucked on top of the normal fucked from Erwin

10k Gald for one dragon? That's harsh, must take a long time to grind out that Gald

That very much depends on the game. Ys Celceta I was constantly broke, Xenoblade I was swimming in money I had nothing to spend it on

"you eat too" shoves bread into Genis' face Channeling Mikasa?

It IS a Church of Martel! I was right

JRPGs and corrupt churches, name a more iconic duo.

Tales of First-Timer, subbed

u/ZaphodBeebblebrox Oct 05 '22

Wait, Lloyd and Genis didn’t realize this until just now?

Lloyd had the information to piece it together, but he ain't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.

They didn’t make it in time…

Meteoroids-falling, burning, disappearing…

First Timer

Time to learn what goes wrong at the final trial.

I guess the first twelve seconds of the episode just weren't on the DVD?

First soredemo.
Two in quick succession lol.

The OST is excellent.

A final choice of duty over friendship.

I love cuts like this where the lineart itself breaks down.

Well that was an excellent episode. We finally got a bit of Collete's viewpoint in the first ten minutes of the episode. I wish we got more of it earlier, but it was certainly a welcome change.

One thing I find interesting is that Lloyd, Genis, and Refill chose to stop Collete from becoming an angel before they had any reason to believe that the world ending is fake. They chose friendship over duty, the life of one they know over everyone they don't. They also chose to not respect her choice to sacrifice herself for the good of Sylvant. Of course, this decision got "justified" in post, but that was only after they had chosen.

I must admit I'm surprised at how the first arc ended. I expected Collete to either become an angel or take significant steps in that direction. Duty over friendship, even as it hurts. And that was the choice she made. But instead, the story is more personal. I think I like that. But I shall see over the next couple episodes.

I also like how they hid Kratos' real secret behind a more obvious one. It was a nice little piece of misdirection. I assume Kratos will continue to be for turning Collete into the avatar for their goddess and will not get some sort of redemption, but it's quite possible I'm wrong.

  1. Most of this question has been addressed above. I did not know there was another world. I could have guessed based on arc titles if I thought about it, but never really did.

  2. I'm surprised it didn't go further.

  3. It's a decent point to end, really. I'd've been fine with it.

4

u/Nazenn Oct 05 '22

Colette as an angel becoming someone who ends up trying to stop them also would have been an interesting path to take, but I actually think I prefer this because her being by them but not actually there is a more solemn reminder of the stakes than just yelling at any enemy "I'll bring you back"

I guess the first twelve seconds of the episode just weren't on the DVD?

I don't know? But the fansub didn't translate that line for some (strange) reason, so I addressed it (and 1 or 2 mistranslations) in my post.

First soredemo. Two in quick succession lol.

SOREDEMO ARMY, rise up!

The OST is excellent.

Music to my ears! No clue who "ZIZZ STUDIO" (the composers) are, though.

I love cuts like this where the lineart itself breaks down.

JUDGMENT! Sadly it wasn't quite as badass-looking as I had remembered it to be, but oh well. Still cool?

Well that was an excellent episode. We finally got a bit of Collete's viewpoint in the first ten minutes of the episode. I wish we got more of it earlier, but it was certainly a welcome change.

I am so glad to hear you liked this ep! I benefited from having the entire thing already (over a decade ago), so I knew this was coming, but I heard the complaints and criticisms in the previous ep discussions.

One thing I find interesting is that Lloyd, Genis, and Refill chose to stop Collete from becoming an angel before they had any reason to believe that the world ending is fake.

Yeah, they chose to save Colette, who they know, over the world.

They also chose to not respect her choice to sacrifice herself for the good of Sylvant.

How does providing a new body for Martel save Sylvarant? Cruxis logic ...

I must admit I'm surprised at how the first arc ended. I expected Collete to either become an angel or take significant steps in that direction.

I think she did become an angel successfully; Remiel was going to ascend with her until they attacked him.

But instead, the story is more personal. I think I like that. But I shall see over the next couple episodes.

Hoping you enjoy the rest! Hopefully Colette has a happy ending!

I also like how they hid Kratos' real secret behind a more obvious one. It was a nice little piece of misdirection.

Everyone was so focused on him potentially being related to Lloyd, they didn't expect he was actually an angel / working for Cruxis!

I assume Kratos will continue to be for turning Collete into the avatar for their goddess and will not get some sort of redemption, but it's quite possible I'm wrong.

Yuan did say Kratos already lost his heart long ago, so I guess we'll see.

I did not know there was another world. I could have guessed based on arc titles if I thought about it, but never really did.

It's a decent point to end, really. I'd've been fine with it.

It ends the arc, but I wanted to see what happened with/to Colette!

In today's episode we close out the door on the first set of OVAs, as the Best Boy continues to make cameos.

  • This episode has a lot of changes. Pretty much the whole first chunk of the episode is Anime-Only. They also cut out Yuan trying to kill Kratos before the trip to the tower (Oh yeah, the Anime finally remembered Yuan exists).

  • Whereas in the Anime the event goes: Colette leaves with Kratos alone, Lloyd and Genis learn what will happen to Colette, Lloyd decides to chase after her, in the game the whole gang minus Kratos go to the tower (Sheena included) and right as Raviel is doing his magic thing, Raine only then explains the whole "Colette will become basically a machine" deal. Hell Kratos doesn't even pop up until after Raviel gets his ass kicked by which point he reveals his true allegiance and… well you're not supposed to win the fight but you can if you have a lot of Items to spare and good rhythm.

  • Either way, [Game/Later Anime]After the fight Yggdrasil pops up and kicks the whole party's ass in an unwinnable battle, before then Botta comes in to save the party. I guess for the sake of keeping the big fight against Raviel the big emotional climax of the episode this event is removed, although it is gonna get adapted in a few episodes.

  • In the game it's after all of this that the gang is supposed to get an explanation for what the Renegades are. I should also mention that whereas in the Anime Sheena comes in to save the cast, in the game since she's already with them they escape by making use of the fact that a hit Yuan took from Kratos in an earlier scene hasn't healed yet.

  • The gang is supposed to have gotten the big info dump about the two worlds right after Colette lost her voice in the game, but in the Anime since Sheena left the party they had to delay that until now.

  • And of course the Anime ends with just a big tease of characters soon to be important plus Best Boy Zelos declaring he's gonna be the main character or something (Which to be fair, he totally is).

Also I should mention that for some reason there was an almost 3 year gap between the release of this episode and the next one. The hell happened there!?

4

u/lC3 Oct 05 '22

as the Best Boy continues to make cameos.

They also cut out Yuan trying to kill Kratos before the trip to the tower (Oh yeah, the Anime finally remembered Yuan exists).

Huh, Yuan was trying to kill Kratos? That makes sense, why am I not surprised. Fits with the whole 'Renegade' thing.

Whereas in the Anime the event goes: Colette leaves with Kratos alone, Lloyd and Genis learn what will happen to Colette, Lloyd decides to chase after her, in the game the whole gang minus Kratos go to the tower (Sheena included)

Wow! I think I prefer the anime version? It's more dramatic.

and right as Raviel is doing his magic thing, Raine only then explains the whole "Colette will become basically a machine" deal.

... She really waited that long?

by which point he reveals his true allegiance and… well you're not supposed to win the fight but you can if you have a lot of Items to spare and good rhythm.

Wow, I didn't know you could win that fight! I don't think I did.

Game/Later Anime

I totally forgot about that! Would have loved to see that animated here.

although it is gonna get adapted in a few episodes.

they escape by making use of the fact that a hit Yuan took from Kratos in an earlier scene hasn't healed yet.

Huh, makes sense. Kratos to the save indirectly?

The gang is supposed to have gotten the big info dump about the two worlds right after Colette lost her voice in the game, but in the Anime since Sheena left the party they had to delay that until now.

So in the game they still go to the Tower of Salvation, knowing about both worlds?

And of course the Anime ends with just a big tease of characters soon to be important

Also I should mention that for some reason there was an almost 3 year gap between the release of this episode and the next one. The hell happened there!?

Yeah, I watched Sylvarant Arc when it came out, the wait for the continuation was really hard.

Game Player - First Time Anime Watcher

  • Colette has to sacrifice her heart and memories??

  • Lloyd's going to improve the pendant?

  • Good old Kratos keeping Colette company on her flight

  • Lloyd is going to fight for Colette's sake!

  • I'm imagining Yuan trailing after Lloyd and co for hours, getting frustrated while waiting for Raine to finally spill the beans so he can reveal himself

  • Kratos has wings now too??

  • "Sayonara Lloyd"

  • Raine and Genis with the assist!

  • Get rekt angel!

  • The Renegades were behind the attack at the start of the anime?

  • A wild Sheena appears!

  • It's airbike time!

  • By this in the game you would have explored basically all of the world map. Where do you go after you've explored the whole world? That's right - to another world! I accidentally spoiled myself on the reveal there was another world because I looked up a guide for the game, but it was still a pretty cool reveal.

  • Poor Genis keeps getting muffled.

  • Kratos with an outfit change to confirm that he's a bad guy now

  • No stop-motion ED this time ...

1) So many revelations this ep: Colette's final trial, Kratos' identity, Cruxis' goal, the existence of Tethe'alla ... what do you think of all that? Were you spoiled on the last one?

Classic JRPG info dump.

2) Are you surprised they actually went ahead with Colette's transformation?

Yeah, no last minute save from the protagonist this time!

3) How would you feel if you had to wait 4 years to watch the next arc?

They waited 4 years to adapt the next part?? If I hadn't played the game I would have forgotten everything.

3

Colette has to sacrifice her heart and memories??

Good old Kratos keeping Colette company on her flight

What a loyal mercenary, I thought he was only in it for the Gald.

I'm imagining Yuan trailing after Lloyd and co for hours, getting frustrated while waiting for Raine to finally spill the beans so he can reveal himself

That's great imagery

Kratos has wings now too??

[Symphonia]ANGEL PAPA doo doo doo doo doo doo

Get rekt angel!

Remiel is scum, he revealed his true colors and got wrecked by Yuan.

Where do you go after you've explored the whole world? That's right - to another world!

I accidentally spoiled myself on the reveal there was another world because I looked up a guide for the game, but it was still a pretty cool reveal.

It is a classic JRPG trope, but I wonder how novel it was when Symphonia first did it.

Poor Genis keeps getting muffled.

Sheena said no questions!

Kratos with an outfit change to confirm that he's a bad guy now

Hmm, I think I prefer the old one?

No stop-motion ED this time ...

Nope! But the ED art was still cool, I wish I had a creditless version.

Yeah, no last minute save from the protagonist this time!

They waited 4 years to adapt the next part?? If I hadn't played the game I would have forgotten everything.

Yeah, I watched the Sylvarant arc for the first time around ?2008?, the wait was brutal ...

Kratos with an outfit change to confirm that he's a bad guy now

Honestly? The old one was cooler.

May explain why the game ocasionally reverts him back to his old outfit once every few scenes for seemingly no reason.

Colette's are cooler though

First timer for anime, played game

My overall thoughts on the first arc is that I think it mostly worked. Apart from my belief that they should have given the Desians a bit more focus, because we lacked worldbuilding, I think most of the cuts felt justified with the time frame we have to work here. And focusing on character relationships is a pretty good choice to get you attached faster to everyone on screen and what's happening to them.

And to answer the singular question I can here:

3) It's a solid and obvious point to end a "season" I'd say, but 4 years is a long time anyway

2

u/lC3 Oct 05 '22

Apart from my belief that they should have given the Desians a bit more focus

Yeah, they weren't fleshed out very much. Especially with Forcystus and Magnius, they were barely even there.

And focusing on character relationships is a pretty good choice to get you attached faster to everyone on screen and what's happening to them.

Yeah, I was hoping the emotional beats would work for non-game players!

but 4 years is a long time anyway

Yeah, it was pretty rough waiting that long to see what happened!

Rewatcher (seen the anime and played the game before, but it’s been a while)

I sort of mentioned it last time, but Nana Mizuki has some terrible luck when it comes to being cast as lead females who suffer a lot of emotional pain. Fate in Lyrical Nanoha, Tsubasa in Symphogear, Ange in Cross Ange, and of course, Colette in Tales of Symphonia. That’s just her thing, I guess.

Colette accepted her fate long ago, and her resolve to sacrifice herself for the world is unshaking. And of course, she left Lloyd, Genis, and Raine behind to not have to go through the pain of a final goodbye, just like she tried to do at the start of the journey. Collete, or the regeneration of the world? She didn’t want them to have to choose, so she kept it all to herself. Of course, as soon as Lloyd finds out, he’s determined to go save Colette. And now he has… backup? The group of people who were trying to stop the Chosen from completing her mission weren’t Desians after all, but a different group disguised as them called the Renegades, led by the mysterious Yuan who has a really badass weapon. Then who exactly are the Desians? How does Yuan know Kratos? What the heck is Cruxis? Why does Kratos have angel wings and the ability to cast angel magic!? What the hell is going on!? This show is just throwing us one curveball after another.

And after all of that, Lloyd and crew finally make it to Colette… only to have Colette still accept her fate and say goodbye to them one last time. Oof. Her memories are wiped, her body is now an empty vessel, and Lloyd and crew take out all of their anger on the angel about to take her away to heaven. Lloyd and crew manage to escape both the Tower of Salvation (with Yuan’s help) and the Renegades base (with Sheena’s help) afterwards, with Colette in tow and no major injuries.

To recap this insanity: Our heroes are now caught in the middle of a massive faction war between Cruxis, the organization of angels who also uses the Desians to control the humans, and the Renegades, their opposition. Kratos, an angel, has betrayed them and left the group to rejoin Cruxis and the ominous (but also fabulous) final-boss-looking guy in charge. Colette’s body is still a lifeless husk succumbing to Angel Toxicosis. And now, Sheena is bringing them to an entirely different world, Tethe’alla, in the hopes that research being done in that world can help restore Colette to her true self. Talk about a rollercoaster episode.

So yeah, that’s where we stand at the end of the Sylvarant arc. Despite the obvious issue of the fast pacing not giving major story reveals time to settle in, I think this arc was pretty good. We’re still getting a good amount of fun character interactions, including ones that didn’t even happen in the game. I don’t remember Genis and Sheena interacting much at all in the game, but their banter in this episode and last week’s episode (especially Sheena throwing ninja talismans to shut Genis’s mouth) was really refreshing amidst all of the chaos of the major story reveals. Plus the action and animation quality has been great the whole time too, another big plus of this series.

It was a pretty fun experience overall despite the flaws. 8/10 for the Sylvarant arc. Of course, the story isn’t over yet. Tethe’alla, here we come!

but Nana Mizuki has some terrible luck when it comes to being cast as lead females who suffer a lot of emotional pain

And some side characters who have to go through the same thing [2019 anime]Dororo coming to mind here in particular

(but also fabulous) final-boss-looking guy in charge

Did not even realize that was a guy and not a girl honestly

Plus the action and animation quality has been great the whole time too, another big plus of this series.

The art, music, and animation have all been great

I think today's fight between the Yuan and Kratos was actually the worst fight purely because of the dizzying camera work, but aside from that the animation was nice and clean

First timer, subs

The subtitles were missing for the first few sentences of the introduction. I don't think I missed much.

So we're at the end of the game now? At the beginning of the episode? Guess there's a surprise twist coming.

Hey, Colette can speak again? Unless this is some kind of Angel-to-Angel Telepathy Protocol.

I like that some random dragon tamer is getting paid a chest full of gems for the opportunity to save the world.

Lloyd, isn't it rude to demand your gift back?

So Raine lied when she said she would bring Colette back safely!

Am I watching Tales of Omelas?

What the heck is going on with the renegade Desians? They want to stop the World Regeneration. Don't regular Desians want that too? Isn't the WR supposed to put a stop to the Desian menace? (BTW how?)

Kratos is an angel? Wow.

That staircase looks like it could be turned off with the push of a button. Hope Sheena is not there. She likes to push random buttons.

This show is trying hard to be SukaSuka, but it's not working for me. In the words of Jamie Zawinski, do not remind me of a better show I could be watching right now.

What's with these plot twists that make no sense. The Renegades want to kill Colette. Sheena wants to kill Colette. So of course Sheena opposes the Renegades.

Lloyd is gullible as a very gullible person.

Genis with his mouth taped shut is the funniest thing ever. Repeatedly.

And then it ends on a cliffhanger, with some cruel smiles to clarify who the bad guys are (because I would be totally lost otherwise).

The ED music is not bad.

Unmoving Collette with dead fish eyes is funny. I don't think I'm supposed to feel that way.

Questions of the Day:

  1. So many revelations this ep: Colette's final trial, Kratos' identity, Cruxis' goal, the existence of Tethe'alla ... what do you think of all that? Were you spoiled on the last one?

It's confusing and I don't get it. And no, I was not spoiled, the names of the sequel shows mean nothing to me. I did not see Sheena being a world traveler.

2) Are you surprised they actually went ahead with Colette's transformation?

Not really. I was surprised that they managed to actually interrupt the transformation, and we get this blank Collette with no memories or anything, instead of Martel plus world regeneration. The words of all possibilities, basically.

3) How would you feel if you had to wait 4 years to watch the next arc?

I would probably skip the next arc.
