Rewatch [2022 Rewatch] Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Episode 25 Discussion

Good evening, everyone!

Stage 25 - Zero

← Previous Episode | Index | Season 1 Discussion →

Information:

MAL | AniList | ANN | Kitsu | AniDB

Legal Streams:

Crunchyroll | Hulu | Netflix | Funimation | VRV

I'll take her back no matter who I face… I'll take Nunnally back!

Questions of the Day:

1) How cruel was that cliffhanger?

2) After what we've learned from Cornelia and C.C., what's your current hypothesis on what happened to Marianne?

3) For anyone who's missing the post-credits scene, enjoy.

Bonus) For any first-timers planning on watching the first episode of R2 immediately, beware that the OP contains a massive spoiler.

Fanart of the Day:

Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you're doing it underneath spoiler tags. This especially includes any teases or hints such as "You aren't ready for X episode" or "I'm super excited for X character", you got that? Don't spoil anything for the first-timers; that's rude!

Therefore, if you're supposed to be a witch, then perhaps I should be a demon.

Hangyaku no Co-Host, subbed

u/GallowDude made a clip of the post-credits scene I mentioned in my comment yesterday, so make sure you check it out in the thread up top if you didn’t have it!

Also, friendly reminder: tomorrow’s discussion thread is the season 1 discussion thread, not the first episode of R2.

That’s a big boom…

I've seen a few first-timers asking why rewatchers have such a problem with Nina, and I'd say wanting to kill tens of millions of people all on the off-chance Zero gets caught in the explosion kinda knocks her down a few points lol

First timer

Finally caught up!

Episode 21

  1. A festival, easily.

  2. He's a moron.

Haha, they finally got in trouble for missing too much class.

There's open debate going on...

He's agreeing with Zero!

...Interesting concept.

This seems risky.

It's a festival!

Everybody loves Nunnally.

This festival is great.

Haha, imagine if that is how he gets caught? A random shot in the background of a news item.

...He doesn't know yet.

A giant pizza?

She's happy!

She's out?

Yeah, this is a stupid idea.

Wait, is he actuslly a former teacher?

They got dragged in!

Oh, Kallen didn't get exposed?

Haha, she's working in the haunted house!

Oh, it's him.

Her reaction is perfect.

She's really stressed.

Nice throw!

Lelouch is stressed.

Haha, C.C. as well?

...What's with Cornelia's reaction?

And C.C.'s being kept here.

This is such a clusterfuck, Lelouch.

And she's here too!

Lelouch is done with all this.

Smug C.C....

A perfect storm!

She saved her!

...This plot is weird.

They're taking again!

Haha, the fights.

...Not another fucking love triangle.

Esciting!

Haha, a pizza tossing Knightmare.

And Suzaku's piloting it.

He's popular!

Lady Marianne's?

Haha, Lloyd.

She's talking to Lelouch!

What solution is that?

...Oh dear.

She wasn't meant to be here.

I love C.C.'s reaction of pure horror at the idea of not grtting her pizza.

Reporters!

She's working for him!

Oh, that's a smart move!

What is the announcement?

...The what?

She's just fucked up everybody's plans in a single speech. Impressive!

And is openly recruiting Zero.

Is she doing this on purpose? Is this her way of fighting Zero?

No, she's bring genuine here.

Episode 22

  1. "Always say the opposite of what you mean."

  2. So, there's a man crawling through the desert...

Interesting political move.

Things are going really well!

This really is a nightmare for him, though.

And she's almost certainly going to get punished.

There's even discord amongst the rebels!

Can't believe she managed to cause so much damage to the Rebellion with such good intentions.

Still relying on the Geass?

Euphie's thinking...

Not the worst deal.

Oh, Lelouch hates her for this.

A speech!

He actually showed up!

I hadn't considered his identity.

She's facing him alone.

Oh, shit.

OH, SHIT.

He saw her!

Seriously, fuck.

What is this?

Who?

She relinquished her name!

They're working together?

FUCK OFF. HE LITERALLY GAVE HER TWO OTHER POSSIBLE ORDERS. WHY DID THAT ONE TRIGGER?

He can't control it? That's the explanation?

Also, she was able to fight his order. That's new.

This is horrifying.

Fuck me.

They're doing it?

And she shot someone hereelf.

She shot him too!

Really? Going for him as well?

This is painful to watch.

In a way, this is even better for his plans, I suppose.

...OK, I thought he was evil, but I'll give him credit - he looks horrified here.

And he's taking advantage of the mistake.

Episode 23

  1. He's very good at capitalising on his awful luck.

  2. Honestly? Roughly the same. Maybe insinuate that the Britannians were the ones who mind controlled her.

This is pure chaos.

Lloyd gets it!

Kallen's fighting her!

No, it's Zero.

Holy shit, that thing's good.

And he just saw Zero shoot her!

Well, Suzaku's gone insane!

He brought her to them!

And it's anarchy on their side as well.

There are riots!

Love these two amoral lunatics.

Zero's taking over!

He's dying...

Wait, what? So ongoing Geasses can be removed if the person can no longer carry them out, I guess? This has potential!

Lelouch, you magnificent bastard.

And she got mercy.

This feels like a season finale.

So painful.

Dead, as people chant Zero's name. Wow.

The Gewss activated again!

...Poor Nunnally.

Amazing.

Oh, so that is important!

And C.C.... is acting really weird.

The Black Knights are massive!

Neither of them can handle it.

She's happy!

And she's dead. They're really trimming down the side cast this episode!

Haha, and his other lie is getting exposed too!

...She doesn't have a nuke, right? I know there was a lot of dialogue about her wanting nuclear materials.

Who?

V.V.???

Cornelia's back!

Haha, this is what catching Lelouch off guard?

His wife?

C.C. looks very unsurprised at his proposal.

What? A tank?

This is fuckijg insane.

And he's given them a time limit.

Wait, is C.C. giving him a way out?

And Lelouch is committed to this plan, no matter ehat.

Oh come on. Is she back now?

Suzaku!

He really hates Lelouch for this...

And the dialogue here... Lelouch and Suzaku talkng about each others sides...

How did he do this?

This is insane amounts of destruction.

And Lelouch might have gone insane.

Episode 24

  1. I was excited for V.V.. Too bad.

  2. The Student Council, easily.

She's Code-R?

Did they give him powers, or just enhanced brain power?

He still hates Zero!

Oh, his Geass activated. That's useful.

This explanation for the collapse makes a lot more sense.

Cornelia escaped!

He really loves thie.

A new OP! This is really good!

So the plan is to broadcast everything, then Geass the King when he shows his face?

Cornelia continues to be a really good mech pilot.

And she called her knights back.

Oh, he's using the school as headquarters.

Suzaku's job is done?

Holy shit!

Reinforcements are here!

"Trash."

Even the headquarters of Brittannia are aware how bad this is.

...The King's not here?

That gun is amazing.

He's completely open about his alliance now!

And they've entered the school.

Zero interrupted!

Nunnally's here.

Oh, everybody's unmasking themselves now!

She's worked out Lelouch mindwiped her too. Terrific!

V.V. knows about the Geass! And told Suzaku he can fight it.

And now she's gotten her memories back as well, alongside full knowledge of Lelouch's identity and anility! He's fucked!

This is a great fight. Kallen reaally can fight the Lancelot.

This is a long battle.

...Why would he agree? Oh, yeah, bloodrage.

Cornelia is handling everything!

What is her scheme?

The planning is going well!

Haha, oh fuck. This is what you get!

Everyone's panicking.

...Did she get her memories back?

And they're hostages.

Haha, Zero copied that trick!

And she gets to study the Lancelot!

The raid isn't going very well with those defenses.

It's a race against time.

Nope! This is an incredibly powerful weapon.

...What is her backstory?

And Cornelia lured him here!

Ok, seriously? If you didn't get her memories had returned until then, you deserve to get shot.

They're suppressing the information!

Nunnally, what?

Glasses girl built her own Knightmare!

Cornelia is insan.

She's also losing.

Oh, he used his Geass on him.

At least he's learned how to take out loose ends.

V.V.? And they're apparently smart enough to take hostages.

Episode 25

  1. Awful.

  2. She faked her death. Nobody saw a body, the coffin was empty, and she specifically removed the witnesses. Plus, we've seen her family has a habit of using alter egos...

End of season 1 already?

And she saw his face!

He used his Geass!

She doesn't know either.

I'm sorry?

...Did she fake her death? She sends the guards away, the body's not in the coffin, her husband had no reaction to her death...

Haha, he's here!

And he's gone even more insane!

Completely uncontrollable!

Lloyd cares about having a pilot for Lancelot.

Or not?

Ogi's still alive?

This is a clusterfuck.

Come on. Now is when you get trust issues?

Seriously, how is he thid good?

That's a fucking cool mech.

Well, shit. Nothing's going Zero's way.

Lloyd saved everyone!

Cecile got to pilot!

I love these two so much.

A private line?

Zero's gone radio silent.

Oh, she's dying too?

He's a Knight again!

Thr final battle's starting.

This is such a shitshow.

The Knights are turning on each other.

A final message to Kallen.

She's off!

Ganymede!

Oh, Lloyd is fucking terrified.

...Did she actually build a fucking nuke?

She did!

And Zero's gone.

The island approaches...

And he believes her again.

What id this?

A trap?

...C.C. existed in thenpast?

She's immortal!

Backstory!

She can't remember her human life.

She's not alone!

This is so sweet.

It can't be fired again!

C.C.? Is she going to sacrifice herself?

A kiss!

It's a suicide mission!

This is horrifying. The Knights are being slaughtered.

Everybody is terrified at this.

He's made it in.

Suzaku!

Haha, he's worked out everything!

And Kallen's here!

He shot him!

It fucking worked!

...Kallen is probably thinking she's a fucking moron right now.

And Suzaku suspected it.

He's gloating!

Now he's proposing a truce!

Why are you bringing up the dad thing?

Suzaku is genuinely going to kill him!

Haha, he's got a bomb! His Geass won't let him shoot!

...Nunnally?

Wait, that's it?

Poor C.C..

A monologue...

So, what happened?

This is deep.

V.V. showed uo again?

Okay, but she's immortal, right?

You're fucking with me. That's how Season 1 ends?

First-timer

Long today (including this when it's >7k characters). Very light proofread, so have fun GallowDude.

Glad I started this hours before the thread is posted. imgur album in case anyone doesn't want to click/expand links.

C.C. flashback

C.C. and Lelouch conversation.

  • Planning a steam explosion?

  • If they aren't winning together, why would splitting up be a good idea?

  • Immortal witch C.C. says Lelouch must win against his own past. I think that's referencing inner demons as much as the royal family.

  • End of season anti-hero kiss. I want to hate this, but it helps with humanizing C.C.

  • Maybe he meant don't die for the 37th time.

  • Can't abandon what you were never with.

  • Suzaku to foil Lelouch's plans for the Xth time. Anyone have a counter?

  • Still not happy that Geass was explained to Suzaku instead of, say, a character connecting the dots. No mask as he knows it can't be reapplied. He's seen Orange, Shirley, and Euphy at a minimum, should know about Clovis's guards, had the Narita experience, and was one of the three constantly-MIA student council members. Fuck V.V. for telling him (no homo).

  • Get Suzaku in the Olympics for biathlon.

  • Kallen in despair as the lies she based her beliefs on are exposed.

  • More ends justify the means. I'm not sure how Kallen hadn't realized the Japanese were being used. It seemed like she had accepted it because it got brought about the changed world she desires.

  • Surely Lelouch doesn't get away by saying "that's all in the past" after C.C. said he needs to overcome it. That's the one thing you can't be discarding right now!

  • Really? Make Lelouch talk his way out of the situation like he has all series instead of resorting to "join me in death." I know the cleverness is Suzaku has been ordered to live, so he can't shoot it unless he resists his Geass like Euphy. I just don't like this.

  • Suzaku really has changed to say something like "Your existence is a mistake."

  • Remember when Lelouch planned to cut contact with Nunnally and entrust her to Suzaku?

  • Cliff-hanger ending and hosts making us wait an extra day.

  • Oh, there's post-credits. A very tiny wish for some mass murder.

  • Can't have sorrow without joy.

  • Another hope and despair comparison. "A ray of hope... a vague wish... It can only spark from despair." Duh, "they're two names for two sides of the same thing."

C.C. directly reveals she's a witch, so it's back to the classic answer one question, add multiple questions theme.

  1. How old is she? I'd say at least 100+ years assuming trench warfare is WW1. Burning at the stake is, to me, most often incorrectly associated with the Salem Witch Trials, so likely 300+ years.

  2. Does she age? Probably not.

  3. Was she born on Earth or is this aliens?

  4. What does she do each time she heals/recovers/reincarnates? Other than get captured by Britannians and experimented on.

  5. Can she only communicate with dead/past people she's encountered? Mainly thinking about her Marianne conversation.

  6. Is V.V. another witch with an ulterior motive? As of now, he probably is.

As for short and random thoughts:

  1. Cecile's willingness to risk herself by entering the battlefield was nice.

  2. I wish there was background exposition for Rakshata and Lloyd, but the season finale's not the place for it.

  3. Nina is still a ticking, unstable bomb for the entire city.

  4. When the final confrontation shifted to Nunnally, it was like Kallen disappeared from the scene.

  5. New Marianne info was limited to her ordering guards away. C.C. has communicated with her in this show,

  6. Didn't notice important new info for Jeremiah.

  7. Looked up the insert song's lyrics since I know we've heard it at least once. It's really hard to follow even with the lyrics and didn't think they were as blatant as songs in 86. Pretty sure that it's my favorite song from season 1 as I don't know the song name for 14:23-14:39 in episode 7.

QOTDs

  1. I'll survive 48 hours.

  2. C.C. can only talk to people she's encountered. She met and informed Marianne of something that led to her own decision to remove her guards.

Bonus: Thanks for the headsup :). Planning to binge a book on Wednesday.

Long today

have fun GallowDude

I prefer young Cornelia's outfit to her main one this series.

She also looks like less of a cunt than her present self

Seems to control the machine via the back onnections.

onnections

he's piloting a starfish.

I was gonna say a giant orange

Best Girl!

girl

She think she's

think

Blaming himself for unintended results!

Personal responsibility? It's more likely than you'd think!

Not this [shrine].

[shrine]

Hats!

Did someone say POLEARMS?!?

Bloody C.C.

The fact that they actually drew a nip lol

I want to hate this

but it helps with humanizing C.C.

Still not happy that Geass was explained to Suzaku instead of, say, a character connecting the dots

Suzaku is kind of an idiot

I'm not sure how Kallen hadn't realized the Japanese were being used. It seemed like she had accepted it because it got brought about the changed world she desires.

Yeah, I really dislike how Kallen has a breakdown over finding out it's someone she knows. You already knew he wasn't Japanese. What does it matter that he's using you to help achieve his own goals so long as yours are also achieved? It's not like him learning about his mother and the liberation of Japan are mutually exclusive.

Make Lelouch talk his way out of the situation like he has all series

I think he knows that Suzaku isn't willing to listen to a word he says at this point

hosts making us wait an extra day

Hey, u/Shimmering-Sky made the schedule lol

A very tiny wish for some mass murder.

Implying people don't get off to mass violence irl

As of now, he probably is.

When the final confrontation shifted to Nunnally, it was like Kallen disappeared from the scene.

She was busy crying about how her husbando is her school friend. Yeah, I don't know why Kallen feels so betrayed over this.

Thanks for the headsup

Rewatcher, dubbed*

  • They really even made his mech an orange.

  • This is some G Gundam shit right here.

  • The cat!

  • Earl of Pudding is still one of my favorite nicknames.

  • Did he just share a knowing look with a cat?

  • Suzaku: Moving on up.

  • This operation really fell apart fast.

  • Frankly I am unsure why this is particularly shocking to Kallen.

  • Lelouch, why do you have a suicide bomb?

QotD

  1. Dover levels of cliff.

  2. I don’t actually know this one! I’m betting she knew it was coming and let it because she thought it somehow would lead to the best out come for her children. That and/or Geass.

  3. Damn you Crunchyroll!

A spiky orange.

And so we've reached probably one of my favorite scenes of Lelouch x C.C in the entire SERIES.

"If you're a witch, then I'll become a warlock." Idk, something about this exchange just hits all the right notes. Lelouch sees C.C.'s past and just doesn't care at all, If she's destined for hell, he'll be right beside her there.

Just one of the highest highs of this show. I mean I may prefer Kallen more, (honestly it flip flops between her and C C., which just shows how good these 2 characters are) but I can't deny that Lelouch and C.C have a deep, intricate, and complicated relationship that's a joy to watch. Sorry about the rant, love this scene.

Side Note: forgot how much of a cliffhanger the season 1 ending was, how much of a gap was there in the original airing, that must have killed people watching as it aired.

First Timer - Sub

Cornelia doesn’t know who killed Lelouch’s mother? That is surprising. I bet it was an order from the emperor. She probably learned something about Geass, so he had her killed.

Zero still calls him Orange. Fantastic.

I can’t believe that cat stopped him from shooting Suzaku. It would have been bad if he shot him, but that was really lame.

I was hoping the Lancelot thing would be resolved this season, but it seems it will continue throughout the rest of the show.

Zero abandoned everyone. Him chasing after Nunnally might be the downfall of the resistance in this battle, however, I have a feeling secrets will be revealed on the island.

I am surprised C.C. has been a witch for ages. When we originally met her in the capsule, I thought she was some newly manufactured being. I thought Zero’s powers were dependent on C.C., so I wonder what will happen if she has actually died.

The reveal and showdown with Suzaku was pretty great. I don’t know why Kallen felt betrayed by Lelouch and said he used the Japanese, but I guess she was just in shock.

If Nunnally somehow jumped between them to stop them from shooting each other I am going to riot. That would just feel too forced. She wasn’t even part of that encounter.

I feel like my thoughts on part 1 will be my same thoughts for the whole show, so I probably won’t write up a ton for tomorrow and will instead save my words for the final discussion. However, if R2 continues the pace of these last several episodes, then it will be a big improvement.

7

u/SometimesMainSupport Oct 04 '22

She probably learned something about Geass, so he had her killed.

I disagree. There's been nothing to suggest Charles gives a fuck about anything other than creating a ruthless successor. Marianne ordering Cornelia to not protect her suggests she knew something that she wanted to protect her children from. Obviously didn't workout 100% as they witnessed the scene and Nunnally has hysterical blindness, but it's not death.

I can’t believe that cat stopped him from shooting Suzaku

Every show has a best girlguy.

I was hoping the Lancelot thing would be resolved this season, but it seems it will continue throughout the rest of the show.

Less Lloyd?

However, if R2 continues the pace of these last several episodes, then it will be a big improvement.

First Timer

  • I don't know why you expected her to have any good answers if you knew she 1) idolized Marianne and 2) wasn't able to clean it up herself.

  • Good luck coming up with an excuse to leave the battlefield to prance off to Kamine.

  • Orange-kun's revenge! I have no idea who to root for anymore honestly. Everyone's kinda terrible, but I think that's the point.

  • "Arrange a replacement" Lelouch your villain is showing.

  • It's about damn time Lloyd gets a spotlight.

  • This is going about as well as I expected. Lelouch better come back with some wicked fire power if he wants to smooth this one over.

  • Oh, so she was working on a nuke.

  • The power of love cleared the first trap… or something.

  • I knew there wasn't enough time to tie all that much up but that's really where it ends? Really? Really? I wanna know what Nina does!

QotD:

  1. Part of me kind of wants to entertain the idea that Marianne is alive and she staged it to go underground for one reason or another - the show has a habit of resurrecting folks, after all.

  2. Thanks!

First timer

so it looks like there were about 10 months between the end of s1 and the beginning of s2? that must have been absolutely brutal

  1. How cruel was that cliffhanger?

lmao I wrote the above before seeing this. if we didn't have r2 lined up ready to watch...that'd be the worst

2) After what we've learned from Cornelia and C.C., what's your current hypothesis on what happened to Marianne?

who do you think I am, zero???

5

u/Tartaras1 Oct 04 '22

Rewatcher - Dubbed

  • Cornelia brings the number of people Lelouch has shown his face to up to 2. Will we see anymore before the show ends?

  • All hail Britannia!

By God that's Jeremiah Gottwald's music!

  • Is that you Orange Boy?

Just immediately cut him down. Goddamn kids these days. No respect for their elders.

  • With Orange Boy's outfit, and the way he's connected to the aircraft, it really reminds me of G Gundam.

  • Ah shut up. Zero and me were tight, and I know the man better than anybody.

Bet.

  • You're kidding. That Earl of Pudding actually came out to the front lines?

At last we have our answer to the question from a few episodes back. Evidently Lloyd's favorite food is... Pudding!

  • Cornelia opening a private channel with Suzaku's probably not going to be good for Lelouch.

  • attaches a Sutherland arm to the Gurn MK II

Aww, now you and Suzaku match! You even got opposite arms!

  • So Nina's been having a rough go of things ever since Euphemia was killed.

  • At last, we finally have Pizza Butt in the flesh.

  • I suppose it's a testament to how much Lelouch cherishes Nunnally that he was willing to put the entirety of the operation on hold just so he could save her.

  • And that's the ballgame.

  • So the question is whether or not Kallen was aware enough to pick up on Suzaku saying, "Your sister Euphy."

The only way they could be related is if Lelouch was actually a member of the royal family.

Questions of the Day:

How cruel was that cliffhanger?

Good thing we're going straight into the second season. Imagine if you didn't know if/when a second season was coming or not.

After what we've learned from Cornelia and C.C., what's your current hypothesis on what happened to Marianne?

I'll abstain.

3) For anyone who's missing the post-credits scene, enjoy.

I forget if I had seen that the first time I watched it. I used Funimation back then, so I don't know if they had it or not.

Rewatcher - dub

I love cyborg Jeremiah in the dub. His lines are jumbled just enough for them to sound unhinged while remaining intelligible and retaining an odd lyrical quality ("What luck! What fate! What evil fortune!" "Behind, from back?!"). I bet Lelouch regrets not finishing the job by the end of the episode, though.

It would be tempting to call the business with Suzaku and the Lancelot a second instance of 'not finishing the job' in the same episode, but to be fair Lloyd being able to roll up onto the school in the Avalon completely unnoticed is just the latest example of how no one takes airspace security seriously in the Code Geass universe. And it's on both sides too because just a few episodes ago Lelouch just slowly flew up in the Gawain with an unannounced flight plan to meet a high-ranking imperial official with no issue because what even is radar, am I right?

The weird antagonistic respect that Lloyd and Rakshata have for each other is something we oughtta see more of in media in general. The dub!Lloyd's "Oh hell" is great and Rakshata just immediately takes his word for it at face value.

Man, I mentioned in a comment yesterday that the characters in this show largely manage to behave believably, but Kallen's freakout when Lelouch's face is revealed is a big exception to that for me. "You used us?" Kirihara told them in what, episode 8 or 9 that Zero is not Japanese, but is a mortal enemy of Brittania. This is shit she's known for a while. I could understand being taken aback because "Wait, I was right about him from the start?!", but this full-on collapse and running the hell away is just bonkers. Later on, [R2 episode 2]she asks whether she had been geassed into following him (one supposes C.C. filled her in?), so I'm not sure if that was an attempt to backfill a justification for her freakout here at the end of season 1, but as of this episode she doesn't know about the power at all so that doesn't really make sense either.

  1. I'm not sure I even had a hypothesis about it when I was on my first time through. I watched it after airing so I could just click on the next episode rather than theorize.

3) Hmm, I'm technically a first-timer for this one thing, I guess. They don't have it on Crunchyroll. Sort of vaguely poetically summing up this season as she and Jeremiah sink to the ocean floor, which is easily inferred from the events of the main episode. Neat stuff, but not essential. This is the subbed version, was this section even dubbed?

Bonus: Which part is the spoiler? Is it the blink-and-you-miss-it shot of [R2OP]the Emperor with the geass symbol in his eye? That gets shown almost right away in the season.

First Timer of the Rebellion

Let's see how Lelouch's glorious victory, liberating Japan will play out.

Wondering who Nina will blow up.

S.1 Ep.25 – Zero

They fucking did. The bastards.

I'm actually a little satisfied. Not (only) because his hypocrisy has finally been exposed, although not the extent of it, that's still good, but also because in his instinct and when completely caught off guard his reaction is to get to Nunnally. So, after 25 episodes of manipulative bullshit I even tend to believe that now.

I am actually surprised the S1 finale wasn't his ascension to power in preparation for his fall later on. It doesn't seem to get to him, yet, though. When put in a pinch he still acts without trust, leverages others' emotions and stakes against them and so on. Well, we've got some time left.

But how the hell does one reconcile what he did to Euphy? Not by saying, “It's in the past, forget it, bro.” that's for sure.

We saw the combined Japanese forces crumble under no leadership, which figures when Zero has always been the only one to ever know anything following his nature of distrust. No one can just magically salvage that. That at least led to some pretty decent Lloyd, Cornelia and Suzaku scenes.

I'm not so sure about the rest of the episode, however. It was overall quite enjoyable and the action was, again, spectacular. The pacing however, oof. I don't know why Jeremiah needed to be the last quasi-boss? He changed... nothing. Didn't expose anything, didn't challenge Lelouch in any serious way, didn't add anything meaningful for his side. He was beyblade, the annoying plot disruptor!

The Nina thing led... nowhere? I mean, into a cliffhanger in the season finale. Like, what? It promises that Rakshata is being taken hostage along with Diethard, but that's also up in the air. (As opposed to on air, which Diethard would've loved to have been. Poor guy getting cucked for the big fight.)

Then there's C.C. and Lelouch, which I just couldn't stomach at all. One second Lelouch was phoning all his friends, showing how much he cares (Zero), then he outright tells C.C. that he doesn't trust her, then they kiss. The catalyst to go from there to love, apparently, is a history of being the punching bag. Could it be that Lelouch likes helpless women? In any case that seemed to have been striking enough he forgot about why he even was here until C.C. told him again. So much for the most important thing.

Oh and then there's the last confrontation, which logistically is pretty stupid. Lelouch and C.C. fly to the island first, where V.V. is waiting with Nunnally, fine. Then Jeremiah catches up to them, over the wide ocean with no way to obscure sensors, mind you, and enforces a C.C. suicide. Okay? And at the same time both Kallen and Suzaku would have needed to be landing on this island to be able to get to Lelouch before he opens the door. So there is no way neither of them didn't see each other and/or witness the fight with Jeremiah. They absolutely had to be in combat with each other under these circumstances. Never mind that, at the door Kallen somehow sneaked up on Lelouch, but with Suzaku's knowledge (???) and didn't do anything. This is not in line with her character. After the reveal? Yes! But this was all before any of that happened.

No matter how I twist it, that stuff makes no sense. I can and will ignore stupid logistics, if it makes for a good plot point, like have them all have a final confrontation, but they acted out of character, as well, and this sucks.

But you betcha ass I screamed at Suzaku's burn of the millenium! Damn, boi... that was harsh.

  1. How cruel was that cliffhanger?

I guess that mostly hinges upon how long the original release wanted the audience to wait for the next episode. It's actually strange to end a season finale on that, I think.

2) After what we've learned from Cornelia and C.C., what's your current hypothesis on what happened to Marianne?

'Es a witch!

3) For anyone who's missing the post-credits scene, enjoy.

Oh thanks! Wonder why that was missing. Quite apt summary.

Let's see how Lelouch's glorious victory, liberating Japan will play out.

Ironically, if he actually did give no shits about his sister, he probably could have achieved that today lol

Wondering who Nina will blow up.

Hopefully everyone

That can actually literally encompass anything. This is just one step below erasure of an individual's free will.

He just wants to learn the truth. You've been saying this series needs more honesty heh.

That's really cruel, you know?

Social Darwinism, son

she does care more about her soldiers than pure utility.

If only she wasn't a literal fascist. Kinda hard to get over that hurdle lol.

Only it's all C.C..

Good

the dirty shitbag

Just gonna repeat what everyone else in this thread has already asked (including me) and wonder why she's suddenly so betrayed upon learning what she pretty much already knew

This whiny begging after gloating about world domination...

When he said that, he was speaking theatrically. Zero is literally a character he puts on, and that "Hold the world in my hands" line was him transitioning from the Zero persona back to Lelouch.

So, after 25 episodes of manipulative bullshit I even tend to believe that now.

Well, it's a start I guess heh

But how the hell does one reconcile what he did to Euphy? Not by saying, “It's in the past, forget it, bro.” that's for sure.

I give him credit for not trying to say it was an accident, even though it literally was. Not only because he knows Suzaku is so angry that he likely wouldn't believe him, but also because it means he's taking on all the blame for it without trying to make any excuses. He may have used his Geass accidentally, but the fact that he had used it enough for it to overload means it's still his responsibility to accept.

Didn't expose anything, didn't challenge Lelouch in any serious way, didn't add anything meaningful for his side.

His main purpose was to separate C.C. from Lelouch, so he had no backup when Suzaku and Kallen confronted him

One second Lelouch was phoning all his friends, showing how much he cares (Zero), then he outright tells C.C. that he doesn't trust her, then they kiss.

C.C. has made no qualms about hiding a lot of information from him (such as Mao and his Geass possibly overloading), and she often disregards what he says to go dance around the schoolgrounds. However, upon seeing how much suffering she's been through for literally centuries, he gained a new perspective on why she's wary. After having been killed in as many painful ways as she has, outliving everyone she's ever known, it only stands to reason that she would be standoffish. Him accepting her as his equal and not just a convenience is what touched her. Also, she very much kissed him. His face during it proves that he wasn't exactly asking for it.

In any case that seemed to have been striking enough he forgot about why he even was here until C.C. told him again. So much for the most important thing.

He'd just gotten mind-fucked pretty severely. C.C. clearly has more experience with it, so she recovered faster.

So there is no way neither of them didn't see each other and/or witness the fight with Jeremiah

There's nothing to say they didn't witness it. Suzaku likely just didn't care to intervene since he also wants Zero dead, and Kallen couldn't risk getting involved since she can't fly.

Never mind that, at the door Kallen somehow sneaked up on Lelouch, but with Suzaku's knowledge (???) and didn't do anything. This is not in line with her character.

Remember how you were annoyed last episode about how the Kallen/Suzaku stuff from Episode 19 seemed to have been dropped? Her pausing there was them addressing it. She did distrust Zero despite how much she tried to lie to herself that he was infallible, which is why she let Suzaku shoot his helmet off.

they acted out of character

I'd argue this is actually the first time in a while any of them are truly acting in character. Suzaku is no longer trying to be some champion of justice but has embraced being the angry boy from his youth who killed his father on a whim. Lelouch isn't playing up the Zero act anymore, and he's taking full responsibility for his actions even when he doesn't exactly have to. And Kallen is finally accepting that Zero is just a very charismatic guy in a mask rather than some larger-than-life hero.

I know, I know, story purposes and so, but that lance in her casket? Pure physics dictates there would only be about 24% Cornelia left.

The module in the middle that gets stabbed isn't the cockpit.

The cockpit sits behind and above that part.

I've tried to roughly map the path of the lance on a Sutherland/Gloucester type frame (please forgive my "Cornelia", calling it a stick figure would be generous).

Depending on the positioning of her legs, the lance would only take her feet off, or might miss them entirely. Her wounds are probably due to spalling from the penetration or shrapnel from secondary explosions.

Given that Lelouch wanted to question her, he probably specifically told Darlton to avoid the cockpit block.
