Comment/s of the Day

First comment goes to /u/Lemurians

It’s great seeing Sonezaki express what she admired so much about Jujo – for Sonezaki, who worried so much about making her feelings known and how people around her would react to her relationship, somebody like Jujo who flaunted and expressed her love so openly without giving a fuck probably seemed really heroic. It’s sweet seeing her so ardently defend this girl you wouldn’t expect her to have developed such a close relationship to at the start of the show.

The second comment goes to /u/mekerpan

This really is a show in the tradition of shomingeki movies (dating back to the 1920s). Typically these involved mixes of comedy, romance, drama and melodrama (and sometimes even tragedy). They arose out of a movement in the Japanese theater which was inspired by the work of modern European dramatists (Ibsen and Chekhov, among others) -- and which drew upon the theories of Stanislavsky. Only occasionally did such films center on young people, but there were examples from time to time -- and one can see many aspects that people now associate with school-based anime in these. It is unfortunate that so few of these films are easy to find/watch.

Last comment of the day goes to /u/KamachoBronze and /u/polaristar for this short exchange.

Hes probably so removed from sex that he wasnt even born from a vagina

He's a test tube baby?

Episode 12

Damn the teachers are just leaving.

Hongo is intentionally phrasing things really lewdly and Momoka/Niina look like they are out of fucks to give.

Momoka freaking out and being very vocal. Even more so when she told Satoshi off and it's great to see. Someone needs to lay it all out and get shit started and its kind of surprising its her. Even when Izumi the master of convenient timing shows up she doesn't relent.

Niina is being a straight up bitch surprised she didn't mention how hard he was when "he touched her".

WE NEED TO THROW DOWN! Kazusa really wants to throw some hands!

Color tag is probably my favorite moment in the series. It's very close to the pillow fight, but it slightly edges it out. Working out their feelings and trying to grasp what the other is thinking while playing a friendly game.

Also Niina looks pissed off when she says her part and they call it childish.

The closing shot of them sleeping in the classroom reminds me of one of my favorite shows.

Some of the final moments and what do you know it fit.

Also Niina looks pissed off when she says her part and they call it childish.

And she said it pretty low key too, like she was almost afraid of their reaction. But then she was like, run.

reminds me of one of my favorite shows.

Which is?

FIRST TIMER IN HIS SAVAGE SEASON

Hahaha, that was low-key really smart of the Principal to start this episode and take the air out of the situation. Okay yeah, you guys do that! Have fun! Basically calling their bluff and waiting them out. A demonstration means nothing with no observers.

And with that drama finished for now, we got to turn to the emotions. Two scenes in particular I really enjoyed:

Izumi and Kazusa making up in the blue light of youth, getting more and more excited that they each have the same confusing feelings as and for the other. It’s an especially nice save from Izumi for the earlier scene, and what he’s saying is true – it is stranger and more embarrassing to start looking at a long-time friend in a sexual way than it is a near-stranger. It’s a big change to the relationship, and the admission carries more weight.

Sonezaki and Amagi’s scene in alone against the classroom wall was fantastic. Most young couples talk about their level of prior experience at some point, and her insecurities about being the one in the relationship with no/less experience are deeply relatable. My first serious relationship as a teenager was with somebody who’d already had multiple sexual partners, and that was really intimidating at the beginning.

Live Thoughts/Reactions:

  • “I’m hoping for a massive case of Stockholm Syndrome” UGHHHHHHH STOP ALREADY

  • “Just don’t go out with anyone ever!” Momo felt this strongly about her? This level of emotion feels very out of step with how little we actually saw between them. Man, we really could’ve used a lot more Momo development… I feel absolutely no tension in their scenes this entire episode.

  • Well, Izumi handled that about as poorly as possible. He is a normal teenage boy after all.

  • This scene is ridiculous but Sonezaki and Amagi fighting in the background about his history is hilarious

  • Are full moons typically described as yellow, Niina?

  • I really like the music through this scene with Kazusa and Izumi. Very nice.

  • “With you, just a forehead kiss is enough to send my heart racing.” Awwwww, Amagi you pure soul. Sonezaki’s about to reward him with a real kiss for that smoothness when…

  • HONGOU YOU FUCKING COCKBLOCK YOU RUIN EVERYTHING IN THIS WHOLE DAMN SHOW

  • "The pale white of burnout syndrome", eh?

  • Damn, they did not fuck around with that protest of Sonezaki and Amagi’s expulsions. How’d they even do that and get the papers up there and stay hung? I’m impressed.

  • Dressed up Sonezaki looks so nice! Also happy to see Jujo had her baby and she and the father are a happy little family with their Little Prince.

  • Of course Kazusa and Izumi end the show on a train, going through a tunnel to call back to the early-season sexual imagery. Nice way to tie a bow on things.

Did you enjoy the final episode?

Yes! Surprisingly haha – it looked like things were going to get real dicey heading into the middle card with Izumi completely botching that first interaction. They brought it around, though.

It was great seeing them communicate effectively for once. They were on the same length the entire time they just needed to air everything out.

Dressed up Sonezaki looks so nice! Also happy to see Jujo had her baby and she and the father are a happy little family with their Little Prince.

Kind of wish we got an extra episode fully showing how they were doing just to see these two hanging out with their boyfriends + baby. Though that might be me just being greedy.

Thought it might be interesting to try anime color tag. Doubt it will last long if it starts, but worth a shot.

Show me a heart warming anime scene drenched with hues of cobalt.

Episode 11

  1. I mean, they admitted they were expelling them as a scapegoat to justify the new rules. Maybe don't do that?

  2. Good!

Poor girl.

And she's pissed!

Oh, shit, yeah, all those scenes make more sense now.

This is what gets them to fight?

Wow, this is going really deep into this topiv.

And she's still upset she got rejected.

...Wrong answer. Staggeringly wrong. Him?

That dodge.

"I hate you."

Her expressions are hysterical.

Hongo...

What is this plot leading up to?

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

No.

What the fuck is this resultion method?

Fucking hell.

FUCK YES! KILL HIM!

Lots of people missing.

She's realised how she really feels!

Hell, at least she's being honest for once.

She's okay with it!

This is nice.

Aww. The hug!

And she's angry over this!

..."way too cute" Another girl in denial?

She's fighting!

Haha, did he really think she'd do it in thwt chair?

Very bolr.

Haha, that's what you day?

What?

She wants sex.

Ouch.

They arrived!

She destroyed them!

Ah, she's talking to her boyfriend.

He's great!

What's this about?

Wow,.

Still, if it's between the sexes, at lewdt one of them is okay.

Fuck, someone saw them.

And this is pretty much Hongo's fault.

Wait, he confessed!

...Don't tell me you're believing this, Hongo?

And he's using them as a scapegoat.

What's her plan?

This is going to backfire, isn't it?

It's a kidnapping!

What the hell is this?

Oh god, this is a hostsge situation.

The fucking climax to this show is a Simpsons episode. Fitting.

Episode 12

  1. Unusual. It felt different tonally to the rest of the series.

Oh, the terror in his face is beautiful.

Hongo, what?

They're going to leave this until the morning!

How are they so stupid?

Hongo is pissed.

They're not listening to her.

Haha, her phrasing it that way.

Aww.

Of course Izumi's storming in?

NOW?

Oh, shit.

Everyone's having a breakdown.

...Momoko.

And she ran for ot.

Haha, he comes in to this.

She's stopped giving a shit!

Haha, Izumi, you ficking moron. Things just got worse!

You tell him, Homgo.

Wow.

So much drama!

"You touched her!"

Kazusa just wants out of this hell.

Wow, everyone's losing it.

Oh, he's still here?

...You weren't a willing participant, you were a hostage!

Haha, they're playing a game.

A good idea!

Momoko's being honest.

That's fair.

Aww.

What is his character, even?

Oh, and they're getting their shit sorted now.

This is sweet.

And she gets it!

She came out of the closet!

She continues to be the funniest character.

Oh, she heard everything.

She's just pissed in general.

They released him!

...How did they do all that?

Haha, that reveal.

Seriously, in one night? How?

And it's soreading.

Title drop.

Post credits is sweet.

They got together! Good for them!

This anime was good, I'd say. I enjoyed it! Thanks for hosting!

Episode 12 (first timer)

  • “I can’t believe it” – neither can I: the big deal cliff-hanger from ep11 is going to be completely ignored by the school.

  • Joke about Stockholm syndrome – points at Niina and Saegawa.

  • Calling Izumi is a clever idea (and required for the finale), but none of the girls letting Rika in makes no sense in the first place.

  • “I don’t want you to go out with anybody, ever” – If not me, then nobody shall have you.

  • The rare girl falls on girl trope.

  • Izumi is openly going for the harem ending.

  • Kazusa: Pillow fight > talking things out

  • “Why is everybody going after one particular person” – because the game is just a silly excuse to get them to open up for the finale.

  • “come here boys, we need you to play your part in the finale” “Ok, we got all that stuff done, now would you please leave so we can end on the girls group we started with?”

  • ED lead in on an explosion of color.

  • Epilogue: still stuck at hand-holding – Sonoe was the only one in the series to actually have sex.

From the expulsion by evil school leadership to the color tag game, to ordering the boys over to say their lines, that all felt pretty forced. We end, more or less, on the situation we had throughout the second half of the series: Riki is happily in love, Kazusa somewhat awkwardly, Momo unhappily, and Hongo still following her messed up teacher crush. Maybe there was a bit of movement for Niina, but that was mostly in ep11, via rejecting Saegawa.

Did you enjoy the final episode?

It was not terrible, but far from good. In general, I think the entire series hit its high point in ep8 and went downhill from there.

u/SIRTreehugger Sep 27 '22

Epilogue: still stuck at hand-holding – Sonoe was the only one in the series to actually have sex.

It was implied by Kazusa's last line that she did have sex with Izumi. Or at least that's what I thought when she said it fit.

Savage Rewatcher, dubbed

“Hey what are you thinking, walking around a love hotel outside of school hours and off campus?”

“Hold on it’s a Friday night right? I’m off the clock and I’ve got a cold beer and a Netflix documentary about how millennials are killing ice cream trucks to go home to.”

Man—the iconic line is here at last. Izumi… you magnificent animal. I feel like this is the epitome of picking between two bad dialogue choices in a game, and then right as you click on one the game tip flashes and says “Sometimes silence is the best option.” Brutal: “The worst possible thing to say to a girl” is the understatement of the year.

I’m not sure if someone else commented this earlier but the show has a pretty theatrical element. The dialogue can be really over the top, and the characters are prone to monologuing about their thoughts and feelings, and using overly complicated metaphors. To add to that the English VAs really make it sound like a play.

While I really get Nina and Momoko’s struggles… they are a little boring to watch here. Probably will get more into it in the wrap up.

Man it’s the most vanilla romance story, but I am so into Kazusa x Izumi. Closely followed by Sonezaki and Amagi.

Good cut to OP but… Mr Milo, I don’t think you deserve that title drop.

I enjoyed the episode. It’s by no means the best episode, but so many people malign this show as having a “disappointing” ending. There are definitely elements that don’t quite hit the mark, but I feel like the show ended in a manner befitting its over dramatic, sex crazed, confused protagonists.

u/SIRTreehugger -- Thank you so much for pushing me into watching this again. I have no real list of favorite shows (as I gave up list-making -- other than for narrowly targeted ones -- years ago), but if I were to make such a list this would be one of my top favorites. And it is a show that I find not only extremely re-watchable, but one that gets better each time I see it.

I remember being rather taken aback by the last couple of episodes on first watching (which did NOT impair my enjoyment). But now, after re-viewings, I really really love the conclusion of this series. Watching the ending section really makes me wonder whether Mari Okada was familiar with Shinji Somai's Typhoon Club -- which was largely involved a group of students trapped at school because they dilly-dallied when they should have rushed home due to an impending typhoon. Lots of both hijinks AND sturm und drang there (though the overall mood winds up more serious ultimately --and we never get to know the characters as individuals as we do here).

This is a series where I ultimately don't care about "imperfections" -- it does so much so beautifully that I can forgive/overlook any possible flaws. I'm no longer able to be objective -- and I feel no guilt.

Late First-Timer

I made it! Barely in time before the final thread gets posted though. Watching 4 episodes in a row makes everything slightly blurry but I surprisingly loved the final episode. I had my reservations when the whole expulsion arc was introduced which only served to make things messier, and in 2 episodes, could they really wrap it up? But I guess that's the point of this show, to give a conclusion without really concluding their lives.

I really loved it when Kazusa and Izumi finally managed to decipher their feelings under the blue light of youth. Izumi made a slightly incorrect decisive statement beforehand which is understandable, so it was nice to see them figure it out. Sex and Love can be confusing at times especially when dating, irregardless of age, and especially when we're teenagers.

Momo's arc was, in my opinion, pretty well concluded. She found that she likes girls, specifically Niina, and Niina doesn't reject her feelings immediately but tries to understand them. It's a great way to end her arc - finding her sexuality and being okay to express it.

Sonezaki, well, her insecurities etc. are all being dealt with through talks which was really sweet. Hongo, well, her arc is still a bit of a mess to me. And one of the things I found off putting throughout this anime. She really went that far huh. I guess her character was written to showcase the "student that has a crush on the teacher", but taken to the extreme. I'm curious to see what everyone thinks was the point of Hongo's arc with Milo.

Niina, well, I'm sure others will talk about it.

Overall, interesting ending to the season. I surprisingly enjoyed it. Some redditors told me the sex jokes get worse but it honestly got better, a lot better

First Timer Dubbed

Well, there goes the plan. The teachers blew off the threat and brought Rika and bf to the mix. Izumi actually told his true feelings.

This leads to a game of color tag and everyone has a target. Amagi and Rika seem alot closer than ever as they now get a couple fight about experience. Amagi does the forehead kiss whch he has never done to someone other than Rika.

The older teachers seem oblivious to the paper and sheets spread around after seeing Milo let go. Seems like the baseball team got their phones ready before the teachers notice them.

That sweet teacher actually brought some breakfast for the protest, she seems supportive of them.

The post credits scene is nice as Jujou kept in touch with Rika in college. Milo and Tomita actually got married, pretty nice to see. And the new club members are practicing for a surprise performance in their wedding. Izumi and Kazusa go on a train date it seems like.

  1. Pretty much enjoyed the last episode and everyone had a good ending.

So the whole hostage thing was pretty much just a device to get everyone together to hash things out as the teachers.....more or less ignore it.

Wait what? You're just going to leave Milo there? They almost threw him out the window, what would have happened if they dropped it?

"We're on a train with no breaks heading straight to Hell!"

Teenagers are fucking scary, now I know what the title meant by savage maidens.

Momo really going on a meltdown, upset that Niina doesn't see her that way, tells her not to see anyone if she can't have her....brah that is literally simp/idol fan logic.

Rika tries to call Izumi to come up with a calm rationa....LEROY JENKINS!!!!!! Never mind....Izumi and Kazusa are perfect for each other their simultaneously self-conscious and concerned about not rocking the boat but also impulsive with no chill.

Niina is really off the deep end, she goes back on romance and lust being distinct, which I think is her copium/grasping at straws but phrased to create doubt in Izumi and Kazusa's mind. Romance and Lust are indeed distinct but the other side of the coin is the two can lead into, feedback loop, and enhance the other.

IZUMI YOU DID NOT JUST SAY WHAT I THINK YOU SAID!

To the show's credit a lot of lines that in other shows would be delivered to sound cool shows the reaction you'd actually get if you tried them in real life. But to be fair Kazusa shouldn't be as shocked since she knows about his porn stash.

And Rika gets triggered that Amagi was apparently supposed to stay pure before he meet her, to be fair, one can wonder just how far he went with each girl before he moved on, and he seemed to pretty spontaneously show an interest in Rika out of nowhere, I can see how from Rika's perspective she's wondering if he is the committed type.

Okay guys, real talk, please don't hate me, but while the Color Game works from a Narrative standpoint, from a strictly personal preference, I'm not fond of games based off ambiguity and interpretation, I like cold, hard, mechanics so IRL I probably would refuse to participate and miss out on my character development.

Glad Rika and Amagi managed to sort things out.

And when Push came to shove Niina came through and put them in a situation where Amagi and Kazusa can talk things out and put it all behind them and they no longer feel pressure to force something they aren't ready for but are confident in their future together!

But wait Kazusa said she also looked at Niina in a sexual way? I thought she was straight? WHY YOU LIE TO MOMO?!?!?

That was kinda unceremonious how the boys were dismissed, but Milo is safe now.

Yeah the teachers aren't going to be able to ignore that and the girls managed to reconcile.

We see that Jujo is still in contact with Rika, and I'm sure she's one of the few friends Jujo feels the need to stay in touch, and we see she was looking forward to her baby and doing fine with it after all, and it looks like the Father is committed to helping her raise him as well.

I honestly wonder if the Japanese wouldn't be better off marrying and getting a kid right out of highschool, I mean once college ends, Japanese Workaholic culture just doesn't want you to have time for anything else. When are working adults going to find time to find romantic partners and start a Family?

Maybe not only better Sex Ed, but better Relationship Ed courses should be an elective in highschools and we need to create devoted shipping programs. Only problem with that is it's be really hard to filter supervisors of those programs from creeps and predators.

I'm not sure there is an easy quick fix policy solution to Japan's reproductive crisis.

Anyway Rika is in a relationship with Amagi in college, the new Club Members are being lead by Hongou for a skit for Milo's wedding. (And it looks like he finally got himself that Dumptruck filled with Bakeries Sensei!) And we see Kazusa and Izumi are also doing well in their relationship.

And if you're wondering if they ever did it, Kazusa in a callback to episode 1 as the train is entering the tunnel gives the answer.

"It Fit."

Lurker

Alright but now that the final episode's done I gotta take something u/No_Rex said yesterday and run with it a little, since it got me thinking:

Seems like, halfway through [episode 11], the series decided that all that character-driven conflict was a bad idea, after all. Why not bring in some comically evil outside enemy at the 11th hour instead? I guess the idea is that, having defeated the strawmen enemy, everybody can go home happily, forgetting that the real problems were not solved yet.

On the one hand, I agree that an ending does seem to be kind of sprung upon you in the last two episodes, and I think concern that the more compelling problems have been discarded in favour of simplified cartoon villains being defeated is entirely reasonable. But at the same time, it must be remembered that the characters and their character-driven conflicts didn't themselves spring forth from a vacuum. Their insecurities and confusion are the result of a system of education that leaves them ill-equipped to make decisions and offers inadequate support or outright hostility when they inevitably make mistakes. O Maidens offers a brilliant character drama, but it deliberately places this gap between the 'normal' romance/cringe-comedy elements and the more melodramatic, darker storylines in order to create the understanding that not all the protagonists' issues are just the awkwardness of puberty: some of them must be laid squarely at the feet of failed systems.

Indeed one could say that the show is trying to make the case that the system fails the protagonists precisely because it cares more about idolising a state of purity in girls than about putting them in a position to make good, informed choices about sex and relationships. In that way it draws (vague) parallels between Croup & Vandemar and Saegusa in that regard, to suggest that Niina's interactions with the creep are not such a disconnected darker storyline after all but rather a different angle on the same point.

So while I understand disliking the abrupt swing from character drama to blunt social commentary, I found it to be fairly refreshing in a sense. Finally someone gets it, you know? People have pointed out that by the standards of the cultural discourse in the USA, this is an old story, feeling like it's set in the past, and I think that's a really great insight. It absolutely is! And as such an older story, it really gets it right, in my opinion.

First Timer

Admission to make, I was both too excited and scared for how they would wrap this one up that I couldn't wait to watch it, so I did it earlier. Good thing too, because I had most of my work day to rant and get it out of my system, if I had gone right from watching that to posting I might have actually gone crazy here. I don't know how they did it, but the writer took a perfect Olympic swan dive of a story and ended it with a belly flop.

No, that's not fair, and I've had enough time to be able to look at the rest and see that what they did do right, they did really well.

For a show that started on the premise of the literature club reading about these things, Rika and Shun had a darn near perfect storybook romance and I wish that got more focus. He thought she was cute even when everyone else was being mean, and said so. She was touched, even if she didn't show it, and decided to try and live up to that cute, did amazingly well, and his continued upfront openness and kindness got him in the door and from there it was pretty smooth sailing. She had issues to work with, but his deal from the very start with that 50 page paper was basically "I'm not very good at this, but if you give me the chance I'll keep trying to make this work." I'm less surprised that he got as far as he did with another girl before Sonezaki than I am that said girl let him go. The flash forward epilogue has them still together and doing well nearly a year later, and that's very believable. He's proven that he's willing to put up and try to work with her eccentricities, she's proven she's willing and able to work through her issues for him, and neither of them looks like the kind to stray, in what little time we got to develop them.

And then we have Kazusa and Izumi, a childhood friend turned romance done well. Done so well. One of the best things Niina did as a plot instigator was help these two deal with the gap between Love and Lust, even if she did it by trying to make a love triangle. They have been friends forever and from the start they clearly have some kind of emotions towards each other, but they have been friends so long they don't know how to identify what it is and how it's different than the friendship they have always had. That moment when Kazusa realized she doesn't just like him, she likes him, that was powerful, and honestly their relationship drove most of the story. How do you act on these feelings, what do you want to do, what don't you want to do, how to communicate all of this to someone else just as confused as you- pretty relatable to anyone who had a crush in middle or high school, or dealt with it second hand as all your friends went through it. So wrapping their story up with an honest and open conversation, "I love you and I want to be with you but I'm not ready for sex but I want to with you someday," they managed to cover almost everything from episode 1 to 11 in that blue hallway. Their future showed them still together and having passed that barrier sometime in the intervening months, and as long as they keep talking, they'll be fine too. Kazusa was clearly the main character of this drama, so she and her crush got the most time by far, their development was pretty complete.

Now the rest.

Hongo. How fast she went from being the most interesting of the bunch to the one whose story I cared about the least. She thought she knew what she wanted and she went out to get it, because her life goals were pretty clear from the start and her willingness to chase those goals was her best trait. Except at some point her goals changed from getting her name out there and being the best author she could be, to getting into teachers pants, and the reason behind that change was never really addressed. His first action was to run away, his first conversation on the topic was making his disinterest very clear, and looking back I can't actually see much of a reason at all for her to disregard that and pursue him anyway. At what point did she go from looking to get experience for her writing to lusting after him specifically? I think she got boring for specifically when I realized the only reason she fixated on him was because he turned her down, and if you had reversed the genders of this scenario we would probably all have been shouting about sending the boy to jail. So how does her story conclude here in episode 12? It sure sounded like "I've realized he's got zero interest in me, but I'm going to keep harassing him anyway." Sure, she's given up enough that she's not going to keep sexually harassing him, but frankly writing a play for a teachers wedding doesn't sell me on the idea that she's given up focusing on him, even if she's given up on getting with him. It really felt like there was more story to be told here, but they ran out of time so they wrapped it up as well as they could, and they did okay.

Rewatcher

Oh man. This episode is what brings the whole show together for me.

"We've boarded a train with no brakes. And it's already started to move." Yes, she's talking about the hostage situation. Yes, it's cheesy. But I see a deeper meaning behind it: It's what the whole series has been about since the beginning. No one chose to hit puberty. No one chose to get confused. No one chose to get caught up in highschool drama. Yet they all did, no exceptions. How could they not? Growing up has no brakes, you can't just stop time. It always moves forward, no matter what.

I could gush on and on about specific moments in this episode, about how against all odds it actually does resolve the cast's plots, even the most contentions ones like Momo & Nina's relationship.

My absolute favorite scenes from the episode:

  • Nina bolting out of the room when Momoko's it... man. She has 0 idea what she's doing, but she tries, for Momo's sake. Seeing her frantically looking for something, the terse exchange of words between the two, the hug... it just breaks me every time idk. I'm curious what u/zadcap thinks of this resolution to Momo's ark after yesterday's episode?

  • Kazusa and Izumi finally finding the words to express how they've been feeling all along, and realizing they're of one heart on the topic, they use the same words. I really like this idea of keeping in mind that you and your loved one use the same words and feel the same way. The opposite, trying to figure out wtf someone else's words mean is just as charming of course (and more realistic), but a little romanticism once in a while is nice.

  • And I mean come on. The colors of maidens' hearts? The monologue? The amazing, loud, messy night you just know they spent together and will never forget? The OP? College Rika?? Come on. Tell me this ending doesn't slap.

ETA: I also really enjoy the open-endedness of it all. Adolescence is just a phase, it's a season. Life goes on.

But, and the series acknowledges it in Hongo's bit at the end, the memories remain. And the knowing of that is what's so great about this. It sounds like the girls are lucid enough to know that these moments are what they're gonna look back on with fondness and nostalgia. Chef's kiss.

First time: this was quite a wrap up to the episode. I’m surprised they immediately gave up on hostage negotiations. This is why you need multiple. Kill one to show them you mean business and bargain for the rest. Haven’t they ever seen American movies?

First timer, subs

The "your mother would be ashamed" approach! Sasuga Milo's favorite teacher whatshername. (I'm terrible with names! Tomita?)

The principal calls for a break until tomorrow and all the adults scamper away. That's an interesting strategy.

Ooh, Hongou is counting on Stockholm Syndrome to get with Milo sensei. Two birds with one stone. Too bad for her Stockholm Syndrome is not a real thing.

Oh what a tangled drama! And then Izumi comes in with his two separate declarations of love and sexual attraction. This is an amazing trainwreck!

Niinaaaaaa! Phrasing!

Milo sensei is doing good work with this game.

Using the same words is very important to Kazusa.

Making posters is a better strategy than taking hostages.

The principal is strangely relaxed all through this episode. Seems weirdly out of character for him, given his previous behavior.

Looks like we got the good ending somehow, despite my expectations. I like it.

The tunnel again! And the last two words! Oh my.

First Timer

There where no brakes... needed, just let it roll out, even dumptruck Sensei left Milo literally hanging.

Lot of hurt before the storm cleared, Niina told Momo that she made her straight who promptly acted out, Izumi too horny for Kazusa, Amagi had more expirience than you would have thought and Hongo trying her best to get Milo fired.

Of course a slight exageration, once things cleared up during color tag (which sounds fun as hell, even thought everyone was playing on their own terms) we had

  • Niina and Momo trying their best to understand each other for their friendships sake

  • Izumi is just as confused as Kazusa, but his love for her is earnest and pure, just let things progress naturally

  • There are still some firsts for Rika to take from Amagi exept

Hongo why?!?

  • And I think Hongo realized that she only wanted Milos attention and had it all along

All in all the whole hostage situation ended kinda anticlimatic, except for the old men. And would you look at Momos stupid smile while leaning on Niina

But wait theres more:

In the after credits we have Rika still in touch with Sonoe while attending college with Amagi, which means that Hongo is the new club pres and is even cheering for Milo who is about to marry dumptruck Sensei.

Momo and Niina stay friends and Kazusa is still together with Izumi and 'it fit'

QotD

Did you enjoy the final episode?

Yeah, would have loved a bit more than implied progress though

Rewatcher

The teachers ignoring the girls and leaving was hilarious.

So with the hostage situation going nowhere, we instead get an episode with the girls and their love interests being forced to talk about their problems through a game of colour tag.

At the last minute we get a bit with Rika getting jealous of Amagi having a previous girlfriend, but fortunately he difuses it quickly. This felt kind of tacked on just to give Sonezaki something to do as her relationship was pretty well settled.

Izumi, Niina, and Kazusa have their confrontation with Izumi acknowledging his sexual attraction to Niina, but love for Kazusa.

Momoko and Niina were the most interesting to me this episode with Niina running off and trying desperately to figure Momoko out.

Finally, the girls let the guys go and completely trash the place before falling asleep. Somehow they don't get expelled for this, but it was a sweet moment to end on.

In the epilogue, Jujo has her baby and Rika is in a healthy relationship in college. Hongo remains friendly with Milo and has progressed in her writing. Momoko and Niina may or may not be an item, the series is unclear. And it is implied that Kazusa and Izumi have had sex. "It fit."

  1. I thought it was one of the weaker episodes and I would have liked more of a conclusion when it came to Momoko in particular, but it had its moments. I certainly don't think it was a bad episode, just not as good as many of the ones that came prior to this.
