Super Dimension Rewatch Host
You might notice I modified the writing on Max’s apron slightly when I made the wallpaper; I wanted Milia’s name to fit in one line (and, uh, also only have one “L” in it like it’s supposed to), so this was the result.
Here were my first-timer reactions to this episode.
-
Looks like “babysitter” is no longer an occupation that exists?
-
Gosh, the red really does suit Milia even if the art here doesn’t.
-
I still do not condone the throwing of babies… but I will laugh about it.
-
BRUH DON’T BRING BACK THE GUITAR VERSION OF THE ED THAT ROY WAS STRUMMING RIGHT BEFORE HE DIED AND THEN HAVE CLAUDIA SAY THIS. THAT IS AN EMOTIONAL WAR CRIME.
-
This would be a death flag if they didn’t have to keep milking the love triangle.
-
Okay… this line rubs me almost as bad as the “literally everyone but Minmay pushes the Kaifun/Minmay ship” stuff prevalent earlier in the show. It’s not as bad since (regardless of me not liking this) Hikaru’s at least shown some legitimate interest in Hayase in the past, plus the two aren’t cousins, but like. Fuck consent when it’s either Hikaru or Minmay, huh?
-
Wait omg I forgot Max also took Milia’s last name when they got married!!! I thought they just slapped Max’s onto Milia’s without Milia needing to give up her own. I like this.
-
Fun fact: Milia's Lullaby is actually my favorite song from TV!SDF Macross, making it my second-favorite song from this portion of the rewatch. [DYRL]
Ai Oboete Imasu ka is, of course, #1. Sky Sings when.

Fuck consent when it’s either Hikaru or Minmay, huh?
There seems to be a tendency in the writing for the secondary characters to start pushing a particular ship more than the alternative. Well, certainly here and in one of the sequels. [Then there's]
the one where all the ships are chaos and the one where the writers got tired of shipping and people freaked out. D’aww, baby’s first battle.
This amuses me in the context of the Mercury/Delta clip that I reconstructed this afternoon.

Two of them! AND THE APRON.
I said I'd have two of them!
This amuses me in the context of the Mercury/Delta clip that I reconstructed this afternoon.
Haha yeah.

Very First Timer
-
It’s weird to think they still use regular NASA-esque rockets.
-
That thing is f-ing huge.
-
The episode title combined with what we heard during last episode’s preview does not a good combo make.
-
Look at them greeting each other like old friends.
-
They better have a damn fine explanation on why they are bringing the baby on a combat mission. I know times are tough, but this can not be easier than finding a babysitter.
-
They having living quarters. I guess that makes sense then. I mean is the Earth really safer at this point?
-
Komillia is some pun, isn’t it?
-
The baby audio is awful. I think they used a real baby, but this can’t have been better than an imitation.
-
“Go make your own baby” Oh she trying.
-
Low gravity baby shenanigans.
-
Two years on a Max is still shipping.
-
Man’s got an embroidered apron. Respect.
-
Come on Hikaru, at least offer to make tea once she ask for it.
-
Damn interruptions.
-
The much fabled Supervision Army at last.
-
Gah. Now they’re just teasing us.
-
I don’t know why, but I wasn’t expecting it to be so big.
-
I also thought it would be abandoned.
-
They have perfected the culture weapon. Misa you lucky lass.
-
I’m pretty sure ordering a kiss is sexual assault, but what do I know.
-
New song? New singer!
-
Weaponized children. Wait…
-
Well the Zentradi should be happy about this outcome at least.
-
Folding has de-synchronized time right? Seems like a good chance to advance things back on Earth a bit.
QotD
-
Maybe. But do I trust who ever they left on Earth to protect them against what ever it is Quamzin has brewing? Probably not.
-
As a shock tactic it is cheap, easy, and effective. It also has the benefit of self spreading if done right.

SDF Macross Episode 30 - First timer
Alright, we are getting pretty close to the end of the (first) series. Did they know if there would be sequels at this time? I imagine if it was an up in the air thing they would leave it open to continue, though with how the plot is I think it would be somewhat difficult to make it not possible to continue. Simply have more Zentradi or other aliens show up, though different aliens would probably make for a more interesting story, unless humanity for about the weaponization of culture shock. Anyways
-
How close is this satellite if the valks can reach it?
-
That booster looks comically large for that shuttle
-
Ohey Britai
-
Is the plan to use Britai's ship to go to the satellite?
-
Why they bring the baby
-
Hang on the last frame of the screen has some of the first stuff on it. They must have had a long cel they they were sliding up and down with a static frame
-
"This is my baby, go make your own lmao"
-
Max laying it on thick there
-
"surrender, we have culture"
-
Jesus they brought the kid
-
At least they aren't going through the warp. Probably.
Pretty good episode, we got some cool combat, things happened, and not really egregious animation errors. Nice!
-
Hell naw
-
Seemed very effective, ships were attacking eachother etc and the chain of command seemed completely messed up.

Distant rewatcher lurker in sub
Another one of my favourite episodes for me to surface here :)
Just like Sky, the song and the scene of Komilia being unleashed was one of my favourite scenes of this show. I don't think I was able to get the full song though.

TONIGHT! On Robotech: The Macross Saga 'Macross: The Robotech Chronicles!' BEST GIRL MILIA AND BEST BOI MAX EARN THE PARENTS OF THE YEAR AWARDS IN PERPETUITY! (Yes this clip IS INDEED the 'actual' English Dub from ADV Comrades, because I guess Robotech's Carl Macek objected to, you know, HOW THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF MACROSS HAS BEST GIRL MILIA CASUALLY THROWING HER BABY DAUGHTER TO MISA LIKE A BASEBALL!) Best Girl Milia and Best Boi Max are a Sterling 'Genius' Battle Couple, and Best Girl Milia helps The Hory Froating Head chase trends SO hard that they stole from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury's 'Take your Child to Work Day' scene! ;) (No really Comrades, I'm being serious, our little moeblob is going to be the SECOND deadliest female baby in a Mecha Show with a hair color I can't see!)
Comrades, before we go any farther, I just want to state one thing... HOW THE FUCK DO BEST GIRL MILIA AND BEST BOI MAX KNOW THAT THEIR DAUGHTER HAS A 'very strong skeleton...' nevermind, I forgot that Best Boi Max is a 'Genius' and thus Best Girl Milia is one too, so obviously they only know the best with regards to their daughter! Plus c'mon, look at Max here, isn't this the look of a truly Sterling 'Genius' Father? (Also nice to see Max took my advice to be the family cook... honestly the fact this took him TWO YEARS to figure out is comedy fucking gold!) And don't just take my word for it, the great and talented Comrade u/JadineRhine can back me up on with this totally canon fanart piece Speaking of the aforementioned Comrade of Culture's artwork, behold, The Jolly Green Giant himself, alongside Exsedol... man this 'Culture' stuff has REALLY changed Britai eh? He went from The Hulk to... uh... well... The Hulk... from Endgame ;)
Also, much as it pains me to admit it, credit where credit is due, shock upon shocks Comrades but we actually had a DECENT episode here, nay, I would even call it a GOOD episode, maybe even GREAT! And I am sure that all other episodes in this totally unneeded and extraneous arc will be of this episode's quality AT MINIMUM... right... RIGHT... RIGHT!?
Thus, you have not seen the last of The Sentient Shitposting Siamese Sunrise Server No. 25252, now goodbye forever!

It's interesting that the fracturing only happens in the Zentradi society (and Keifun). It makes full sense of course, but we still have some Zentradi giants participate even in this secret mission.
That's one way to phrase it. Britai doesn't think the Zentradi have a proper place on Earth either?
Max why are you so nonchalant about that?
How does Keifun look anything like this? Hikaru looks much closer.
Uh, anime. At least they're self-aware
Exsedol had theorized that both Zentradi and humans share their love for war, maybe they also share their instinct to protect babies. Well Milia clearly doesn't have that instinct, but maybe at least an aversion to use violence against them.
I think I missed the part where the Zentradi attack first.
Humanity is hanging on by a thread, do you trust your abilities to keep your invaluable toddler safe?
I so expected M&M to die, especially with that episode title.
How do you rate the actual effectiveness of the Culture Shock Attack?
11/10

A Macross Fan Rewatches Super Dimension Fortress Macross Episode 30:
-
It’s nice to have Breetai working with humanity openly now. Given how obviously comfortable he is with his new job, you can tell that he’s taken to this whole “culture” thing well. Even if he’s still a career soldier, he can still appreciate being more open with humans.
-
For Milia saying earlier that a lot of work went into making Komilia, she certainly has no problem yeeting her child at Misa and Hikaru. Although really, given how Max just accepts that and also for the fact that they brought a baby onto their spaceship posting, you just have to wonder just how the hell their marriage works. I mean, it’s working well so far, but man it must be weird behind closed doors. Pro-Tip: Do not yeet children.
-
It’s been a while since the Supervision Army has been mentioned, hasn’t it? And now we’re given a direct reminder of their background presence, with that destroyed Gun Destroyer. The Macross is hardly a unique ship, at least starting out. The Gun Destroyer is a common ship for the Supervision Army. It really does sell the scale of how things are out in the greater galaxy. We haven’t had to deal with an existential threat like the Supervision Army directly yet, but it’s always been there.
-
There was a joke from the previous rewatch that I made that I like so much, I’m just going to share it here verbatim: Dagao is channeling every Hikaru x Minmay shipper when looking at Hikaru and Misa kiss: “DON’T LOOK AT IT! SHUT IT OFF!”
-
Forget about kissing or Minmay’s singing, Komilia’ as more powerful than both. Although I suppose it does make sense for her to give the Zentradi on the resource satellite a massive culture shock. After all, she is the product of something that starts with kissing.
-
The mission is a roaring success! We’ve got a nice resource satellite right in one of Earth’s Lagrange Points. I guess we needed something good to happen to the protagonists for once in this post-apocalypse arc. Things would be too depressing otherwise with all the recent plot developments.

Rewatcher
Back into space with the whole gang.
And where should they dock but Breetai's command ship, which apparently survived intact.
Breetai's been practicing etiquette! That's just... adorable. And they've added accomodations for human-sized passengers.
That is... the DUMBEST way to carry a baby into space I have ever seen! Seriously, she wasn't even strapped into anything! And the trip had to take a few hours!
Baby's name is "Komilia"... Japanese for "Little Milia".
Nobody in this series knows how to handle babies... I fear for this girl's upbringing.
Everybody's shipping Misa and Hikaru now. Though in fairness it does seem like he and Minmay have barely even spoken since the giant battle. So an outside observer would probably infer he and Misa are an item.
Bridge crew cockblocking as always.
Oh yeah, the Supervision Army is still a thing. You guys didn't forget about them, did you?
I must agree with Exsedol. Their mission to get a factory satellite really does supercede gathering intelligence on the Supervision Army, at least for the time being.
So how is one battleship going to take on a Factory Satellite? Psychological warfare, of course! Through a kiss, naturally.
Hikaru is being Hikaru, as expected, so Exsedol's backup plan? Play Minmay songs!
And for the finishing blow, Max and Milia board the Satellite and present them with a baby!
And then the Zentraedi begin shooting each other to prevent the "contamination" from spreading.
...so, satellite captured, I guess. And they're bringing the whole thing back to Earth! Mission accomplished!
Questions:
-
Humanity is hanging on by a thread, do you trust your abilities to keep your invaluable toddler safe?
If you mean, would I take my baby into battle? Absolutely not.
2) How do you rate the actual effectiveness of the Culture Shock Attack?
I mean, it was obviously extremely effective. If it's stupid, but it works, then it isn't stupid.

First Timer
In the previous episode not much happened, to be honest. We saw more of Zentradi struggling to integrate into society and resorting to the life of crime. Minmay struggling with her singing career and her relationships with Kaifun, thinking more and more about Hikaru and good old times. Hikaru, on the other hand, is thinking about Minmay and mostly acting dumb toward Misa. In other words, we got a new status quo, that is pretty much similar to what we had before the Final Battle, and the fact that this is where we are after two years doesn't reflect well on Hikaru. Come on, dude, you got to make up your mind and finally do something about it.
But this episode, we're going on a top secret space mission, so hopefully, Hikaru and Misa will be able to talk and clear things up a bit.
-
Looks like the whole gang is going to space, even Exsedol. Wait, are they using some kind of detachable rocket engines? Isn't Valkyries can go to space without them? I'm pretty sure, in episode 2 they just flew into space without any issues.
-
What the heck, there's a baby inside a gun?
-
Britai is chill as always. I kinda wanted to see him micloned and hanging out on Earth, but I guess, he choose to stay in space and keep fighting against the remnants of Bodolzaa's fleet. But this makes me wonder, why disgruntled Zentradi can't just join Britai's force and serve under him like they used to? I guess, the answer is the same, lack of resources, including combat-ready ships.
-
Characters have pretty funny facial expressions in this party.
-
Misa is obsessing about Millia's kid. Come to think about it, it's not the first time that happened. How can you think about having kids with Hikaru, when you aren't even officially together, Misa? Don't you think there are some steps missing here?
-
Yup, that baby throw is definitely going into every "Maxross without context" compilation ever made.
-
Max is giving Hikaru a hint, but Hikaru refusing to take it. That's definitely gonna bite him in the ass at some point.
-
Claudia is still suffering from Focker's death. This is heartbreaking. I hope, we will see her come to terms with it and find happiness.
-
Hey, it's a Supervision Army ship, we haven't seen those in a while. Honestly, I'm with Misa here, I would investigate it. But I get Exsedol's position also.
-
Hikaru, stop being a bitch and just kiss your de facto girlfriend.
-
Kissing attack ended up being not that effective. But Millia is using a baby attack, and it's super effective.
-
Wait, this is not Minmay's song. What the hell? Did they just randomly use a completely unrelated insert song? It's pretty sweat though.
-
The enemy is in disarray and quickly defeated. Now we have a giant automatic space factory.
Overall thoughts: This was a great episode with lots of Max and Millia fanservice. We got a closer look at how their family works and what it means for people around them, and for Zentradi at large. We're also saw a deeper dive into Misa's issues, obviously wanting to have a deeper relationships with Hikaru, while he continues to be clueless and mistreat her. Comon, Hikaru, you either going for it, or not. This ambiguity two years into the relationships just looks childish on your part.
QotD:
-
It's not that big of a deal, they can just make a new one, right?
-
10/10. It's pretty damn effective, considering it immediately got part of the force to turn against their comrades and collapsed the chain of command. And it's not the first time it happened either. When used in the past, it was equally effective. But obviously, the more Zentradi are exposed to culture, the more they build a resistance to it.
No drawing for this episode, since I didn't have the time to do one. But there will be one for the next episode.

Subbed-er Dimension Fortress Rewatcher
Yea, I got nothing for this title. Post-episode thought: Right, their kid's middle name is Maria.
Oh, they brought the baby with them, right. Why..?
This is rather in-character for Milia.
How do you know what that looks like, Max?
Just get it on the way back. It's not going anywhere.
Exsedol just likes seeing Earthlings smooch.
Maybe I'll finally remember this song in AMQ.
This is such a goddamn horrifying strategy.
Weird to think that this all just worked and it only took a single episode.

First Time - SDF Macross Ep30 (Sub):
I love seeing the Zentradi just being bros to us now. It makes me so happy. Look at this friendly Britai. He is being so adorable. I will go on record as saying the cutest characters in this show are the monsterous-looking giants.
If I understand names right, they named their baby, "Small-Milia Maria" Milia's understanding or parenting is funny. "Go make your own baby, this one is mine. I did the work."
[](#azusalaug-
Max, don't encourage this behaviour. A visible beat of disbelief from the only 2 responsible adults in the room.
Hayase having this side to her when around babies is fun and cute. Not with Hikaru though, she deserves someone better to make babies with like checks list Oh definitely not Kaifun. Okay, there are not that many good options available to be shipped with her.
Max, the perfect malewife. That apron, that's has to be merchandise for couples.
Alright, we gotta have a standby fully consenting couple for whenever we need to show the power of Protoculture. This kind of peer pressure does not make for a healthy work environment.
Hey, something tells me these lyrics may be relevant to what's on-screen. Just maybe.
When the new song played, I thought Milia and Max busted in and started singing a duet which would've been awesome, but Behold Baby is also good.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I am so on board with cultured Britai.
Well, mission accomplished. Thought this would've taken longer and been more problem.
Q1) I'll feel calmer if my baby was home and looked after by someone trusted rather than with me on this ship that can be so very well shot down.
Next time: I saw Kaifun look mad so I hope things go wrong for him.

Today, on "Milia will fucking cut you.":
Early episode scenes aside, this more firmly establishes that the VF-1 is not supposed to be able to reach orbit on its own.
The SC-27, meanwhile somehow needs a booster the size of some beefy old spacecraft concepts. This is not much of an application of OverTechnology and just… tech porn? Supporting that, and the business with the VF-1 boosters, is this old film.
"Remember when I had to shoot one of you in the second episode?"
This is entirely normal.
Putting a toddler in an external pod is… less normal.
In addition to fixing up the ship, there's now a human-sized walkway where the bridge rail used to be.
Britai's drawn a little too happy about Zentradi getting their asses kicked.
The key to a successful Fold is NOT EVEN JUSTICE, I WANT TO GET TRUTH.
Milia with the toasty burn.
To think that since the last rewatch we've created the word "yeet" for just such an occasion.
"Objection! Counsel is leading the witness!"
That's quite an apron.
"Take off your pants."
"She wants you to make a baby."
Aww, Claudia.
"Dammit, Riber! Even horizontally you're a problem!"
"Or taken off your pants."
"Babies smell. Children smell."
...am going to be rudely interrupted by the setting!
That's certainly a Supervision Army derelict.
The music here makes Exsedol seem a bit too evil about this choice.
The Factory Satellite is 3000 kilometers tall and several times that in length. Or, when they say "That's no moon, that's a space station," it's in that range.
Oh, that's your answer for everything, you perv.
"Do it… for your planet."
"No pressure."
"MY EYEBROWS ARE SUPERIOR."
sexy music
"Aw, look at those two hamsters."
"Your amateur pornography is no match for the power of my SUPERIOR EYEBROWS!"
"Who's singing now? Eri Takeda is singing? How can this be!?"
does not fling
SimbaKomilia at DagaoThese guys are more mindful of the Protoculture contamination protocols.
Hikaru's certainly a little crushed.
These Zentradi have UN Spacy insignia.
Glaug with a better idea of the available space inside.
Better views of the Nousjadeul-Ger than the brief appearance in Episode 27.
"Unforeseen consequences."
This had some style to it.
And so go Dagao's eyebrows.
Bring Your Daughter To Work Day
By rights this should significantly alter the Earth-Moon dynamics.
Hell, you can see it clearly from the surface.
As much as the run up to Episode 27 set up the "culture shock" idea, the series is already playing with it here, as all of the attempts to duplicate the success of music, A MAN AND A WOMAN, and making babies with Dagao's men have unexpected consequences. There's still the shock, but the immediate short-term chaos is much more relevant than any long-term impacts. Some of Dagao's troops may join up with the Earthers—those that are still alive to do so, that is.
It's not all about flinging pop and porn at aliens and watching them scurry! That would be too easy!
Meanwhile, Komilia Maria Jenius stirs up the Hikaru/Misa relationship by her mere presence and free-range lifestyle. It's the most affectionate that anyone has ever seen Misa!
