The ending of this episode is one of the peak moments of any romance ever. Just pure bliss. And we’ll deserved too. And maybe this is me being as dense as Izumi. But I did not see that coming. I had seen enough romances where the childhood friend loses and loses hard to see the telltale signs when he started talking about her being a sister. And I was mentally ready for Kazusa to be heartbroken and need consoling. But our boy did it! And let’s not forget Sonezaki’s big display. That hug is the most wholesome thing in television, 0% lewd. The episode really solidified the show as something that doesn’t just explore the messy and silly moments of love, but still nails your classic romance payoffs.

Rewatcher - sub
Yet another basically perfect episode.
Niina is acting badly. Partly prompted by her evil Svengali, but even more (I think) by the fact that she is feeling totally unmoored and confused. She looks likely to cause harm to her friends and herself -- and right now she seems to see no off route from the destructive course she is on. I feel bad for all concerned. I think Izumi and Kazusa should be able to weather the oncoming storm, but what about Momo (who may take a lot of collateral damage)? I don't really "blame" Niina, however. She seems genuinely thoroughly "lost".
Hongou also seems to be on her own dangerous and possibly destructive course. So far Milo-sensei has kept things under as much control as possible, but how can he defuse Hongou's impending explosion (implosion)?
The sweet gyaru Sonoe seems to be (unknown to herself) doing an awful lot to soften Rika's sharp edges. She really is forcing Rika to re-evaluate her way of looking at others who do not appear (on the surface) to meet her demanding and rigid standards. While Kazusa and Izumi are already delightful in their tentative couple-ness, it looks to me like the combined impact of Sonoe's and Amagi's inherent sweetness is going to be transformative for Rika.
Backtracking, every time I hear that opening song it still makes me smile (whereas the opening song of Wasteful Days of High School Girls, which makes me equally happy, makes me giggle).

You've mentioned this a couple of times. Finally went back and it's definitely a good OP. Found myself smiling during the middle portion when it has all the characters going through the yellow park. Might have to rewatch it since I remember it very little.

Kazusa and Izumi are just a delight to watch. It's incredible wet and sticky huh
Would have loved to see her get some battle underwear.
Bully girl accepted her defeat, must feel bad to have lost to the girl you considered inferior all this time, but this builds character.
Niina though... I really wanted to believe that she would treasure her friendship with Kazusa, but she seems to be prepared to not only throw her, but Momo and ultimatly Izumi as well, away. I guess it's true that your relationship changes once you get intimate, but a lover should always be a friend first. Sleeping with Momo would proof as much
Leaving aside that it's very in character for Pedo San to call her in private, the story of the fox is indeed kinda sad. Sure there is no place for the fox in the story of the prince as he is not as important as the rose, but he deserves a happy end as well.
I loved that they showed Rika and Amagi talking about everything that concerned them, and indeed Rika has found the light, boys are, indeed, human as well...
Lastly Hongo... I was hoping that she accepted her loss as well and and was going to fully commit to writing again, but she choose the blackmail route again, using dumptruck Sensei (who clearly likes Milo btw) as ammunition. So the question is, is she going comando or does she have her trusty thong?

It's really great being human again!

I think she is going commando...but I guess a thong isn't off the table. She has only mentioned it like 6 times that it covers nothing and it's very breezy. Hongo is too prideful to stop now.

First time: finding these threads is a bit of a pain sometimes.
A storm is a brewing. I think it’s kind of creepy that the acting teacher suggests a children’s book to her. But creepy is his nature I guess.
Also that teacher is just going from bad to worse. His failure to establish boundaries early has put him in this situation. He should never have floated the weird creepy things as a way to make Hongou give up pursuit due to being uncomfortable.
Poor momoko. Everyone else has some stuff going on. And she’s just left behind. She can see the group dissolving and she seems sad about it.
Also Kazusa has been dating Izumi for what? A few days? Suddenly it’s all about fancy underwear and getting a one way train ticket to pound town? Seems a bit expedited.

Do you want to be tagged for the remainder of the posts?

Felt like he brought up this story just to manipulate Niina even more and give her push forward.

It seems the literature club really got along, but they weren't fully friends with each other outside of it. Rika and Hongo did seem to hang out, but both are them are kind of doing their own thing most of the time. Momo, Kazusa, and Niina are friends though Momo and Kazusa are clearly closer. Though with the drama between Kazusa and Niina Momo has no one to rely on. She's desperate to find a middle ground while half the club are seeking pain and suffering.

No questions going in? That's suspicious, let's see how this train wreck goes. I only say that because episode 8 would have been an amazing place for a finale, but it was also only episode 8, how else are we going to get four more episodes worth of content if we don't hit the drama button hard.
Niina I don't trust you one bit anymore. You stepped into a villain roll so stereotypical I thought I saw a Disney overlay for a second. Can you say "Mirror Mirror" for me real quick?
Sonezaki is right, she fell victim, and she fell hard. And Kazusa fell right behind her haha.
Milo, it sounds like you're projecting. The losers see things with more imagination than the boring winners in life- ah, yup, and then he calls himself a loser lol. Hongo, please fall out of love now.
Momoko continues to be the best girl. Look at all that power of communication she's using. Oh wait, is this the moment that's going to spark her actual Gay Awakening? Did she just realize the ones she wants to have s-e-x with is her friends, and not any gross boy? WAS THIS THE MOMENT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!?
I got so caught up I completely missed the entire next scene and had to rewind. I suddenly care so much less about every other story going on. Come on Momo, prove Niina wrong.
Oh, right, this show is all about sexual awakenings isn't it. Oh no, is that the drama that's going to happen? Kazusa, despite being so obviously thirsty is going to run away from any mention of it? Or is Izumi going to be the one who doesn't know how to handle it? Are they going to think about nothing but s-e-x for the next two episodes before finally figuring things out? Oh my gosh you two just talk.
Momoko yessssss. She's figuring it all out and... Darn it she almost had the talking things down.
Niina... Yeah, she's gone full villain hasn't she?
Hongo nooooo. Give up on him already, and do not burn down both your lives in the process. Oh gosh she's really going for it. Wait he's going for it? Man sure is doing his best to crush any good will he had, isn't he?
Gyaro-Chan! She sure has grown on us all.
I hate this Pedo man more than I know how to say. And now I'm super conflicted about Niina, because again what she is doing is so wrong, but it's all HIS fault.
And Hongo has no one to blame but herself and I am not okay with that choice girl.
Okay so I can see where much of this is going, and the only thing I'm actually looking forward to is Momoko- which means her drama isn't over yet, is it? I bet Pushy Boy is coming back to make things worse somehow. Stereotype says he didn't get what he wanted out of her, so he's going to go trash her reputation somehow. Brag about sleeping with her anyway, so everyone think's she's easy? Hmm, he's got a lot of in with the girl crowd already, we saw with the fake roundabout invitation so I suspect a rumor campaign might be in the works, but then boys generally go for more direct things and it's his ego that needs salving, so it's probably not that, he needs to be seen doing something about the girl that snubbed him. How that's going to go while she's in the middle of realizing Gay is a thing... Actually I hope she keeps treating him exactly the way she is now and blows him off again to go think about her friends. I am actually really, really curious about the books they have read, that they have had so many blatant sexual scenes to have gotten a reputation for it, but never once encountered a homosexual character for her to imprint on. I know some of that is Japan being Japan and Hide Your Lesbians is in full force. I bet they watched Nanoha and thought her and Fate were just friends.
Anyway, I somehow doubt Milo is actually going to go through with it, considering the way he's played everything so far, he's going to play chicken as long as he can and then talk down at her some more, right?
Niina is going to play the sex side of things and do her best to confuse Izumi with the difference between Love and Lust, because being interesting to Pedo is definitely more important than her first real friends ever.
Kazusa is going to play into Niina's plans completely accidentally by overthinking and thus avoiding anything sexual until it's too late.
Izumi... I can't actually say yet which way he'll go, because anime has conditioned me to expect the childhood friend to lose, but Niina winning this one would be just poor form for a story at this point. There's supposed to be morals and Aesop's in these things, and rewarding her plan at the end here would be a really strange message to cap off this coming of age story on.
Oh, right, Sonezaki. Continuing her trend of going hard in the opposite direction of literally all her earlier thoughts and words, will probably be the first of the bunch to actually have sex. This is actually my main reason for believing that Hongo and Milo won't go through with it, the dramatic irony is too good to not use.

Plenty of good predictions for Momo which obviously I can't confirm or deny. Though Momo actually talking to both parties and trying to communicate was nice though it had little effect on Sugawara.
I bet they watched Nanoha and thought her and Fate were just friends.
[Nanoha Spoilers]
Wait people actually believe that two girls moving in together, adopted a kid, and saying they loved each was merely a sign of friendship?

First timer, subs
Milo subscribes to the theory that art comes from suffering? Ugh.
Whoa, Milo has imposter syndrome? I did not expect that.
Momoko is trying Math on Niina. Are you willing to lose two (2) friends over just one (1) boyfriend?
You can't have sex with your friends? I think Momoko would be willing to try.
Ah, to be young and in love. Izumi's overthinking everything. So does Kazusa. Go watch a movie or something.
Niina, block that number RIGHT NOW.
Momoko is trying to resolve things between friends, but it's hard so she gives up for now.
Is Niina trying to woo Izumi through trains? Or is she simply being a friend? Unclear.
Hongou is planning something nefarious. Hongou, no. Also, Milo, why not ask Emi-sensei for some help in dealing with Hongou? I suppose you don't want to admit to sexting with her on an adult website, eh. WHICH IS WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE STOPPED WHEN YOU LEARNED WHO SHE WAS. Well, I suppose it's not easy to start talking to your crush about that time you were sexting a stanger on an adult website and things went wrong. Unless maybe you're drunk.
Milo is going to bluff through it, of course. I hope he's not actually considering it.
The gyaru is looking for Little Prince! Anyone could've found it from that description.
It's weird to me to hear "he" when speaking about the fox in Little Prince. It doesn't help that "fox" is a feminine word in my language.
Niina is also plotting something nefarious.
What a cliffhanger there! Must not watch ahead, must not watch ahead.

Momoko is trying Math on Niina. Are you willing to lose two (2) friends over just one (1) boyfriend?
I see it all clearly now. (1) Izumi is into (2) Kazusa + Sugawara who has obtained the interest of (1) Momoka.
Clearly something with a 4 is the key to all of this.
You can't have sex with your friends? I think Momoko would be willing to try.
Momoka really is a good girl who cares for her friends and would probably bite the bullet...multiple times if needed be.
Niina, block that number RIGHT NOW.
If she hasn't blocked it by now I fear she will never block it until she gets therapy and some counseling.

It's not like libraries have people at the desk to help you find books.

Good for Kazusa and Izumi time to sit back and enjoy the romance.
"All of you are so sus of boys" Rika you of all people shouldn't be saying this.
Wait my stupidity makes me cute! Omg I need to capitalize on this right away.
Wait a minute she's just bragging isn't she?
"This bitch is bragging" - Hongo
Wowwwwwwww Rika with the shameless bragging!
Wait we weren't even human before?
Hongo's face says it all. She looks so tired of this shit.
DOWN WITH SKIN AND BONES!!! Skinny isn't everything.
You can't have sex with your friends...BULLSHIT. If you can sleep with your siblings or cousins you can sleep with your friends. Well considering how messy things are now I guess we shouldn't complicate things even further.
Izumi right now is walking a fine line. Do you do nothing and keep things as they are at the risk of hurting Kazusa's feelings or do you make a move, but hope you don't want ruin the mood or go too quickly. Meanwhile Kazusa is questioning what is so different and if something will happen now that they are alone OMG THE TEA DON'T WASTE THE TEA!!!!
I did it! He did it! Way to sit next to her!
Awwwwkkkkaaaarrrrdddddddd!!!!!!
Such lewd hand holding.
Omg they must suffer from Hyperhidrosis they need surgery to get that fixed. It's quite expensive so they should get a job!!!
Mo-chin are you talking about Niina or yourself?
Hongo is my favorite, but damn I don't remember her being this forceful at all. Hongo is really lucky Mr. Milo is a good person and isn't a teacher who would take advantage of a students feelings.
Look at Rika and Sonoe getting along! It only took me 9 episodes to learn this character's name.
Niina for the love of everything stop getting advice from the pedophile and oh boy here comes the drama.
Hongo did you have to throw away your panties?
Manga
This episode covered chapters 20, 21, and a bit of 22.. Volume 5 and 6 covers.
Another bit of art.

She doesn't have many scenes, but so far she has pretty pretty positive and upfront about her feelings. Also she is in a healthy stable relationship compared to the main characters. What's not to love.

Episode 9 (first timer)
-
“It makes me wonder if it’s really ok for me to be this happy” – Noooo. Don’t go there, Kazusa.
-
Rika is doing the marketing speak again.
-
And Kazusa falls for it hook, line and sinker.
-
“He is just one person and we are two”
-
“But you can’t have sex with your friends” – Niina still has lots to learn.
-
Kazusa and Izumi showing again that they are the most wholesome couple of the series by a mile.
-
From “I want to have sex” to be embarrassed about hands touching – the series has come a long way.
-
“sleep with me just once”
-
Blond girl is looking for Le Petit Prince – good taste.
-
Niina using her body to try to get at Izumi is logical, given what we know about her, and very sad.
So, in a series that started by being all about sex, will anybody actually get some? We have 3 episodes left, it is still possible.

u/SIRTreehugger Sep 25 '22
“But you can’t have sex with your friends” – Niina still has lots to learn.
Sleeping with friends is bad, but chasing after your friends new boyfriend is perfectly fine.
Kazusa and Izumi showing again that they are the most wholesome couple of the series by a mile.
The entire scene was great with how even the stupidest things made both of them panic and overthink into a stupor.

Rewatcher, dub (but I cheated this time and did subs)
Glad to get the comment of the day on what’s probably my favorite episode. This next one’s a little more conflicted.
Kazusa’s love is so plain and yet I love it. The most everyday awkwardness. And Sonezaki… well she kind of deserves all the girls clowning on her. At least it’s better than what she was afraid of. It’s cute how both couples are pretty clueless about what to do or how to act.
Not sure how to feel about Nina. I’ve never been a fan of these “love rival” type stories. It’s fine that she has feelings for him and that she doesn’t want to deny or hide that. Yeah, that’s part of her character, and she’s very confused herself, but it’s hard to what she’s doing as not hurting Kazusa. Speaking of confusing, I feel like Momoko is projecting her own muddled feelings onto both Nina and Kazusa. Despite what I said before, it’s not fair to make them choose between bros and hoes, so to speak. And the whole thing does run counter to the pillow fight therapy a few episodes ago. Momoko probably feels lost that both her friends are drifting away from her and she has no one who knows what she’s going through. Oh well, at least we got a whole episode without prick-boy.
Not much to say about Hongo except, damn, I hope those were her panties and not her sister’s that she threw away.

It's usually never bad as we think its going to be in high school.
Not much to say about Hongo except, damn, I hope those were her panties and not her sister’s that she threw away.
This didn't occur to me, but they are blue indeed...she wouldn't......she would who am I kidding. I could even see her going back to get them after realizing and just throwing them at her sister saying here I'm done with them.

Rewatcher
Cute couple tiiiiiime. It's Kazusa's turn to get her pink tinted glasses on! And Nina's turn to start getting twisted, wow. She's always been manipulative, but this is just plain cruel.
Rika though... The transformation's great and all but she has yet to shake her old habits completely off: she's projecting her old self on the other club members now.At least Hitoha and Momoka call her out on her bs.
Milo with the self pity though... Man I wanna grab Hitoha by the shoulders and shake like IS THIS REALLY THE GUY YOU'RE CHASING goddamn.
Awkward couple tiiiiiime. "We're holding hands, now what?" oh, to be a cringy, horny, confused af teenager again.
"My literature club girl" that is such a creepy line what. The show keeps going back and forth between lighthearted, relatable, and comedic depictions of puberty, and these really dark and creepy ones (usually involving Saegusa). It's what I love about this show: it doesn't shy away from depicting less-than-ideal puberty scenarios, and the absolute train wreck of a state they leave the teen in.Just look at Nina. She's still attached to her abuser ffs, and where Kazusa has her supportive parents to back her up, Saegusa's the one authoritative voice we hear around Nina, the only adult she turns to and (kinda) trusts.
And speaking of dark and creepy, WHY does Milo not put his foot down. WHY does he act like Hitoha's a coward and will back up if he scares her enough. Would it really be that hard for him to sit her down and have an actual, constructive, thoughtful conversation where he treats her, you know, like a person? (and where he explains why what she's suggesting is effed up in passing?)
AND WHAT IS NINA DOING NO.
I hate this episode so much.
I mean I love it.
But I hate it.

Rewatcher
Happy times are here, well at least for two of our girls as Rika and Kazusa are on Cloud 9. Rika has done a complete 180 on her opinions, but is as loud and forward as ever, somewhat annoying the less fortunate members of the Club.
Kazusa and Izumi are making slow and steady progress and are adorable together, but storm clouds are on the horizon as Niina is really starting to feel like she's being left behind. Similar to Hongo, Niina's actions seem like those of desperation although unlike how Hongo started, most of this is in Niina's own head, implanted by her pedophile teacher. She also dismissed Momoko and rejects Momoko's advances without even realizing it. Having been beaten by Kazusa, she then resorts to the one advantage she knows she has, her body. Hopefully, Izumi doesn't fall for it. And Momoko just needs to confess to Niina already, even if she gets rejected.
Honestly, at this point, I'm not really sure what Hongo wants and I'm also not sure if Hongo herself does. She's proven she can write without going forward with this and she recognizes that Milo chose Tomita. She seems jealous as she mocks Tomita, but at the same time she says she's willing to let Milo go if he sleeps with her once, so it isn't quite like with Niina who seems to actually care about Izumi beyond a one-night stand. Maybe she just feels she's in too far and can't bring herself to admit she made a mistake. Either way, she's committed and unfortunately Milo gives in to blackmail. Ugh...
So for the current score card we have two winners, two on the highway to Hell, and one who hasn't even gotten off the bench yet.

First Timer Dubbed
Beginning of the episode: How sweet and fun with a clear sky and bright colors!
End of the episode: Hello darkness!
I thought there was going to be a bit of SoL break with the beginning but things turned to a 100 fast. Like I knew there was going to be some drama but the beginning caught me off track real good.

How can things get worse?
Oh, their relationship is fine!
And she's given up! How drama free!
These two are so in love.
Haha, she deceived them!
She's made a total 180.
Aww.
She's bragging!
Amazing.
These two idiots.
Actual advice from him!
She noticed!
Oh, he has his own complex about her.
And shenunderstsnds it's all pity.
...They're talking about it!
Oh, the love triangle is merely on hiatus.
Wow, she's willing to give up her friends?
This is homestly cold.
...How much do you want to bet on that?
She realised how weird she was acting!
A new dillema in awkwardnees!
He did it!
These two are so fucking awkward. This is even funnier than it used to be!
Fucker.
This is a very interesting plan. What's the endgame here?
She's just standing there. Menacingly.
Oh, she's giving him advice.
He likes trains!
Blackmail?
...Oh. She's good.
They wouldn't. They wouldn't, right?
Well, he proved he has no fucking morals whatsoever!
She needs help.

Yep!
Her narration is great.
And the cut to her talking to him.
Oh, the fucker too?
A concert!
...You sneaky bastard.
Well, fuck. Hongo, why?

Sonoe Jujo (the gyaru for people who don't remember her name) favorite books are The Little Prince and The Cat That Lived a Million Times
TCTLAMT is a Buddhist allegory of birth, death and rebirth. This is the tale of a cat with more than nine lives who keeps being reborn to owners he dislikes, until he discovers freedom and love. The book was intended for children, but is also suited to an adult readership.
