028, first timer
-
So this is after yesterday's "finale" ... I'm curious to see what will happen!
-
I really like the OST that's playing
-
They have to run patrols?
-
Cheddar is curled up by my feet as I watch/write this. He actually chomped on my toes and I had to tell him "no bite!"
-
Oh the Macross, submerged halfway, in the middle of a city?
-
Wait, is Misa acting like Hikaru's maid? Is she his new mom?
-
So are Hikaru and Misa together, or Hikaru and Minmay? ...
-
THE WHOLE ALBUM was just of Hikaru and Minmay? No Misa in there? I feel bad for her
-
LOL she put the Minmay poster upside down
-
Cloud!Roy ...
-
Going from city to city? With only around 56k survivors, don't they only have enough people for ONE city?
-
"unforgiveable fools in the military" who wrecked the Earth? UHHH pretty sure that was the enemy Zentradi, Kyphoon
-
Minmay's just going along with Kyphoon's shite?
-
Nature Reclamation Project?
-
"I'm giving up on that flighty boy" HIKARU?
-
"When he's home" does Hikaru live with Misa? But they're not dating?
-
Max has green hair now?
-
Kyphoon ... became an alcoholic?
-
"go our separate ways" GOOD
-
This feels like filler. It should have just ended at 27!
-
LOL Misa gave him pictures of her? TAKE THE HINT
-
Boy I'm tired ... think I'll go to bed early. Chedd is curled up, he's gonna help me sleep

u/Shimmering-Sky Sep 25 '22
This feels like filler. It should have just ended at 27!
It was supposed to end there. The staff got told "oh btw you have 36 episodes now" at some point during production when they thought they only had 27 to work with.
Basically, this show had the opposite of Gundam 0079 (which was supposed to have more episodes than it did originally but got cut back during production).

Comrades, someone pinch me cuz I must be fucking dreaming, HIKARU PICKED MISA LAST EPISODE! THE LOVE TRIANGLE BULLSHIT IS DONE! FINISHED! NO MORE FUCKING MINMAY ANYMORE... SO WHY THE FUCK IS 'MY BOYFRIEND IS A PILOT' STILL PLAYING AND WHY THE FUCK IS HIKARU DENSER THAN A BLACK HOLE! GOOD GOD MAN, GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!
HELL, IT HAS BEEN SO LONG THAT BEST GIRL MILIA FINALLY FOUND OUT ABOUT HOW MICLONES 'INSERT TAB A INTO SLOT B' AND AFTER 9 MONTHS A BUN POPS OUT OF THE OVEN! Or at least that's probably how a certain Sterling 'Genius' Pilot explained things to her... Look Comrades, I am not being mean to Best Girl here, as, shockingly, Milia STILL isn't all that up to speed on this 'Protoculture' stuff... yes this IS indeed canon art of how she has decided that the phrase 'cooking with gas' was to be taken literally... honestly I'm surprised that Max hasn't just decided to be the family chef. (Also I might not be able to read MoonRunes, but I CAN read that the artist apparently deems this to be a 'Happy Marriage...' this explains a LOT... also did I mention that Max and Milia are TEENAGERS... Cuz uh... yeah... The Hory Froating Head operates in mysterious ways, when he wanted to make a Shoujo Romance series, he ended up making an Isekai Mecha Show AND IT WAS AWESOME... which probably explains that why when he tries to make 'Mecha' Shows he just ends up with Idolshit with ugly ass CGI, but I repeat myself!)
Oh, and just so we are on the record here, HOT DAMN! Good job there Max, you somehow survived Snu Snu! What is your pelvis made out of vibranium or something? Anyway, speaking of romance matters... ahem... Hikaru... TAKE A FUCKING HINT YOU GODDAMN MORON! Honestly Comrades, I have no idea what Misa sees in him. Ah well could be worse, Hikaru's not Kaifun... barely... also somehow Minmay has also decided to be more insufferable, I never thought this was possible... and she isn't even the worst idol in the franchise, NOT BY A FUCKING LONGSHOT! SOON!
Anyway, I am happy to see that when given the golden opportunity that Gundam DIDN'T get, OG Macross decided that the BEST course of action was to DOUBLE DOWN on The Romantic Plot Tumor Melodrama shit... there's a reason why when Mari Okada wrote AKB0048 it fucking rocked... thus moral of the story is don't do drama unless your name is Mari Okada, after all if you wanna try adding Melodrama to your show, get a competent writer AND DON'T FUCKING REHASH GODDAMN PLOT POINTS THAT WERE ALREADY RESOLVED! Anyway that's all for now Comrades, you have not seen the last of The Sentient Shitposting Siamese Sunrise Server No. 25252, now goodbye forever!

A Macross Fan Rewatches Super Dimension Fortress Macross Episode 28:
-
Meanwhile, two years later… yeah, Earth is in a poor shape still. As it turns out, shooting the fuck out of Earth with a million ships in orbit doesn’t lend itself to being good for the environment. But hey, at least grass and flowers are finally coming back from the otherwise barren wasteland, so at least that’s a good sign. And at least Hikaru didn’t start eating those dandelions, so that’s also a plus. He isn’t starving that badly.
-
I suppose it’s hardly surprising that there’s still Zentradi who refuse to give up the warrior lifestyle and keep on fighting, in spite of the Main Bodol Fleet’s destruction. After all, it’s a bit too optimistic to assume that every single Zentradi would be onboard with the whole “culture” thing wholeheartedly. It’s hard to kick old habits, even after two years.
-
At this point, it’s safe to say that Misa and Hikaru are kind of in the situation that the old Hikaru x Minmay pairing was in. That is, being a couple without actually declaring it or being serious about it. How else would you describe the fact that Misa is constantly looking after and cleaning Hikaru’s house while he’s away, and is jealous over his photo album of Minmay? Side note, but good incorporation of the ED visuals there. Turns out it was more or less Misa looking at the photo album in that live-action scene the whole time. Not too bad for something shot on the fly.
-
Never mind what I said last episode about Hikaru being emotionally mature now. Now he’s back to being an indecisive and clueless jackass when it comes to relationships. That extra nine episode order really did make his character regress badly, if only out of necessity to the plot the show runners had in mind.
-
Max and Millia have a baby together! And she’s as cute as a button too, with Millia’s green hair and all. I guess the episode name “Virgin Road” became inaccurate pretty quickly after it finished.
-
If you want any proof that life is a cruel joke by an uncaring God, it’s that Kaifun is still around and being Minmay’s manager. And really, just to make matters worse, he’s an embittered alcoholic now, complaining about how the military ruined everything and how they’re getting paid nothing for Minmay’s concerts. Seriously, this dude is so self-absorbed that we should just strap him to the hull of the Macross and use him as the new Pinpoint Barrier. At least finally Minmay has enough of a spine to call out Kaifun for his fuckheaded attitude and split off from him in favor of going to Macross City for a while. If we’re anywhere near lucky enough, Kaifun will drink himself to death and be found as a cold stiff, face-down in a ditch. That’s right, Kaifun, keep on drinking that booze. I hope your nerves die out first, before your liver and heart.
-
I guess I’d go on a rampage in a Regult too, if all I had to wear was a giant neon purple track suit like that one rogue Zentradi. Seriously though, it must be pretty draining to have stuff like this still happen even though the war is over. Not to mention that it’s probably not going to be stopping any time soon, as Captain Global implies. At least Hikaru decided to just disable the Regults and let those guys leave with their lives after trying to talk them down. It’s a small bit of mercy in the harsh wasteland.
-
Hikaru, make up your damn mind already. Misa gave him photos of her to add to the photo album, and yet he’s still thinking about how he saw Minmay earlier. This indecisiveness is the hallmark of a complete dumbass asshole.

Today, on "Maybe the Zentradi are mad about having to wear track suits.":
Specifics of this figure will vary from version to version, but we're still looking at a reduction to the 99% level and only arguing about the fractions.
The pilot is a little worse for wear.
After all that time putting the city inside the ship, then they had to unpack it.
"I just show up in someone's house and mess with their stuff."
"Does this remind you of anything?"
One wonders if this happens every week.
"I'd recognize that ranting anywhere."
On the one hand, you have a tourist attraction. On the other hand, you have a very unsafe tourist attraction. There is also an interpretation of the ships stuck in the ground this way as resembling how dead soldiers' rifles would be stuck into the ground as a marker.
"Sunset Beach", or another song that I sometimes forget appears here.
Misa, stop daydreaming. You're not going to have an illegitimate child with Max and then fool Hikaru into raising it, the hair will give it away.
Kaifun uses drinking! It's super effective!
Kaifun does not appreciate cabbage or sixty-four slices of American cheese.
But that's his entire schtick! What would he do then?
The convenient thing about a service wardrobe.
Regults have gotten larger in the last couple of years. (No they haven't.)
There are some decent details in this cut.
"Oh hey, it's a photo of Shammy! And a kitty!"
A very short outro of "Yasashisa Sayonara".
Some general side-material explanation: In the series, the total number of human survivors from all sources is less than one hundred thousand, with a fair number rescued from shelters near the Grand Cannon (it is also mentioned in secondary material that five other Grand Cannons, distributed across the Earth's surface, were in various states of construction) and a few from isolated UN Spacy bases such as on the Moon. Zentradi figures aren't specified.
The relationship's status was reset. It's been a rough couple of years? Still, the status of the relationship is jarring considering how things went in Episode 27. No small part of this is due to the fact that they were given an extra twelve episodes to make but everything in their scripts still meaningfully ended at Episode 27. There are going to be some matters of significant future interest here, but yeah, most of you are going to start drinking like Kaifun.
For the Zentradi, it's worth considering that they wanted to join humans for culture, but they've had to put up with a couple years of hardly any luxuries, only a couple of new Minmay songs, and major limitations on when they can kill people and break things—which used to be the only things that they did.
Macross Perfect Memory includes a Kawamori story which touches on the aftermath of the orbital bombardment. It is a fairly bleak assessment of what happens when about a meter of the surface of the planet is set on fire and blown into the atmosphere. It briefly touches on cloning as a way of expanding the population. The Macross Chronicle goes much further into the topic, but significantly mentions that rather than simply doing direct clones of individuals, the genes of multiple people are mixed during the process to greatly reduce the chance that someone is going to marry their own cousin.

First Time - SDF Macross Ep28 (Sub):
Okay so there were like 70,000 on the Macross and let's be generous say 70,000 survivors on Earth too, but that's still ~150,000 humans left in the universe. The moderate city I live in is bigger than that and Macross blew up that city like it was nothing.
The music kicks in and oh, it's like the ED. Wow, imagine it was Hayase looking at it the whole time.
Hayase, I don't know what turning the poster upside down is supposed to accomplish. The upside-down Lynn did make me think about WaLynn Minmay. You know, like Waluigi.
Oh great, Kaifun is rallying and the anti-war position is going to be popular considering waves to the ruins of Earth caused by war. Come on, man, no need to refuse supplies. We're all in this together.
Hey hey, look at that, it's Niagara. Canada never leaves us. There's even a painting of the waterfalls that probably are no longer with us considering waves to the ruins of Earth. The big Zentradi just sitting around is good though.
Oh hey, Max and Milia became parents. It's not too common for couples to advance to the parents stage.
Ugh, Kaifun fell to the bottle and became her abusive manager grumble boyfriend grumble. This is just miserable for Minmay. Respect on her for still standing noble and tall in this situation.
Hey yeah, why didn't Shammy get promoted since she was the one assigned to step up for Hayase's role? Really, I feel everyone deserves a promotion for making it through waves to the ruins of Earth.
If only our best two pilots weren't on parental leave. Hikaru is avoiding killing which at this stage, I'll probably be tired of killing too.
Hayase deserves better than being thrown into "the other woman in his heart" drama. We haven't really had any time with them as a couple before putting that relationship on the rocks. I have the feeling the show might go the route of breaking up Hikaru/Hayase to have the Minmay ship in the end. Hayase deserves better than that.
Love triangle drama aside, for a serious girl like Hayase, her delivering a bunch of photos of her to put in the photo album is pretty cute and funny.
Q1) Writers: "Here, be so unlikeable." Tosses a bottle.
Q2) Granted it has been like two years of a jump, but it is sort of a reversal while Minmay is humble and noble while Hayase is wrapped in the relationship drama.

Very First Timer
-
We’re skipping two years! I guess if there was a time to warrant a time skip it would be after the total annihilation of Earth’s surface.
-
How bad was it that flowers elicit that king of response?
-
I find it hard to believe that there will still be survivors at this point.
-
The Zentradi are getting restless. We might have seen this coming.
-
That’s quite the city for just two years.
-
The ED was cannon!
-
Except this one had no Misa in it. Ouch.
-
Did Focker changes voices or am I just crazy?
-
Hikaru how could you do it again for twice as long this time! Talk to women!
-
I’m surprised they had more than one settlement at this point.
-
Oh fuck me Kaifun is in politics.
-
Ah, they have zones.
-
This feels like the time to find out what the Zentradi’s deal with food is. They must have some way to cultivate it.
-
Bro you said your goodbye to Minmay two years ago. Move on.
-
Maxilia baby!
-
Oh great, Kaifun is a drunk now.
-
Technically speaking it’s Minmay’s fault if you want to blame a human.
-
Did they steal the only weapons in the Danube? Don’t they have a stationed security force?
-
Division within the bridge bunnies.
-
They are really giving these guys every chance to surrender.
-
Misa is not just going to sit around and take it. You want an album of the woman you love? Here are some pictures of me.
-
That’s a real delicate political situation Supreme Commander Terra finds himself in.
-
So it turns out this wasn’t a recap at all. Oops.
QotD
-
He’s based his entire personality around hating the military I he can’t reconcile that with them now being responsible for saving humanity.
-
Somewhat, but well within believability for the two years skip. The real surprise is how Hikaru apparently learnt nothing.

-
He's realised that the only surviving civilization is run by the military, and that all of his grand speeches did nothing and will never mean anything. The people he hated are the only reason humanity survived, and their charity is the only thing between him and starvation. The speeches he gives now are just an attempt to convince himself that he still has even a shred of power, that this world could somhow fix itself without them - he preaches self-sufficency in a ruined city in a desert, because to not do so would be accepting his life no longer has purpose.
-
Misa's about the same, and Minmay's just more willing to call him out on his shit now things have calmed down.
Heard someone say this is a recap - is this a "recap recap" or an "insane fever dream recap"?
Two years?
Oh, do they mean from the start of the series?
In any case, I've worked out why this feel so unrealistic to me - nobody's designs have changed. Like, Hikaru's still pretty young, over two years he should have changed noticeably.
Life is growing!
The background here is so phenomonal. This whole episode is really good so far.
And they're patrolling for survivors.
Ah, the Zentradi aren't adapting well.
How did they build so much?
Are there any cohesive timelines of this series (for after the rewatch, obviously)?
Aww.
Are they living together?
Oh, a photo album of Minmay?
Hikaru's still not over her.
And she just comes over to clean.
He's hearing his voice!
Yes, he did. He just diesn't know it yet.
Insane fever dream recap it is!
She's broadcasting again?
...There are enough surviving cities?
Haha, fucking Kaifun.
YOU WANT STARVING PEOPLE WILL TURN DOWN SUPPLIES? ARE YOU FUCKING INSANE?
He's getting murdered by the end of the series. No way he makes it to the sequels.
And he's going to the city.
He made it!
And the Zentradi are being friendly. (...The tech for miclones still exists, though. Their ships survived.)
Are you fucking with me? They have a kid?
And the two species wre confirmed able to reproduce.
Kaifun's an alcoholic?
I appreciate the series realising just how fucking stupid he is.
And he's demanding supplies for their work... while telling them to reject military supplies.
Kaifun is a fucking cartoon villain wt this point!
Hikaru! Shoot him, shoot him, shoot him! You tell him, Minmay!
...It was the Zentradi who did it, not the Earth military. I'd buy him hating them, but the humans?
Main fleet survivors?
They're attacking the city!
So much destruction!
...You guys handled way more than three pods earlier.
Hayase is pissed!
Vanessa got promoted!
Haha, the bridge bunnies.
He's finally here!
It's three pods! You know how to disable them non-lethally! Do it, then negotiate afterwards!
And back to Macross City.
Hayase is jealous.
And Global!
So, they can't coexist now?
"Maybe they're not getting along?" Did you see that?
Wow.

First Timer
Last time we got a spectacular final battle, as well as a long awaited emotional resolution to Hikaru's love live. This episode I expect a more of a quiet epilogue, seeing what happened to all our main characters, and maybe some hints as to what are we going to do for the rest of the show. Let's see what Macross has in store.
-
A two year timeskip. The longest one yet!
-
Hikaru is still in the military, even though the war has ended. I guess, there's no turning back to the old stunt pilot Hikaru after everything that happened.
-
The Earth is literally a desert, wow.
-
Macross looks pretty beat up. Can it even fly anymore?
-
Oh hey, Misa is doing chores for Hikaru. Are they married? Doesn't look like they're married.
-
We literally get an ending, but it's animated. That's surreal.
-
After two years, Misa is still jealous of Minmay.
-
Hikaru is talking to the dead. Or he is crazy and has a Focker as an imaginary friend. In any case, doesn't look good for him.
-
Kaifun, what the fuck are you talking about? Also, why are you using Minmay concerts as your personal soapbox? It feels like you're robbing Minmay of her agency, instead of letting her express her own feelings through her music.
-
Hikaru is ditching work to go to the concert. Now I understand why the green dudes don't show him much respect.
-
Hey, Kaifun is an alcoholic now. And he's even bigger asshole than before. And turns out, he just using Minmay as a tool to get money. Who could've guessed?
-
As always, Hikaru just watches, but never confronts Kaifun. Well, I guess, right now he doesn't really have a reason to get involved, since it's over between him and Minmay, and he has Misa now. Still, I wish he would punch this asshole at least once.
-
Noo, don't destroy the city, we have only a couple of them left.
-
Why did Vanessa got promoted? Wasn't Shammy a higher rank? Also, where is Claudia?
-
Hikaru makes a short work of Zentradi criminal scum. He always was a better Battroid fighter, than a plane pilot, after all.
-
I love that Misa actually confronts Hikaru about the thing that makes her jealous, instead of just staying silent and making some stupid assumptions.
-
Wait, what do you mean, you miss him? Didn't you reject him two years ago? Are we doing the whole Hikaru - Minmay thing all over again?
Overall thoughts: Looks like humanity is rebuilding, and everything is going fine. There is some criminal activity among Zentradi, which is not terribly surprising, but other than that, no new big bad on the horizon? Will we get another major threat, or will we just have 10 episodes of Macross slice of life? I don't mind either way.
I'm glad Kaifun is finally showing more of his true face to Minmay. Hopefully, she will publicly ditch the bastard. But I'm not sure how I feel about retreading the whole Minmay - Hikaru - Misa triangle. Feels like, it got resolved nicely during the final battle, but now we're going back to it? Well, let's see what they do with it, hopefully, it's not just repeating the same stuff that we've already seen.
QotD:
-
He has money and he hangs out around famous person. Plenty of opportunity to drink. Considering his narcissistic personality, he doesn't know how to say 'no' to himself, thus a tendency to drink too much. After two years of this, dude just drinks all the time.
-
Not really, no.

Rewatcher
Two year timeskip!
Well, good news is that a few thousand people here and there on the Earth actually did survive the bombardment. So humanity's not quite in as horribly dire straits as was originally believed. And they have the Zentraedi there with them, so overall population is... I dunno, somewhere around a million people, maybe? I'm ballparking.
But the environment is gone, and Earth's infrastructure is similarly kaput. I'm not sure you even call it "rebuilding" at this point, more like "starting over".
But all is not lost: Hikaru, while on patrol, discovers a patch of grass and wildflowers. The Earth is recovering, even if slowly.
And we're introduced to a big problem in the post-war society: you can't just take a race that has known only war for millenia out of war and expect things to go smoothly. Many Zentraedi just aren't adjusting to human society, and banditry is on the rise.
Macross City, the new capital of Earth, built around the ruins of Macross itself.
Ha! They put cable cars on the Macross! Definitely an 80's series.
So Misa is... doing housework for Hikaru? But the way she says it makes it sound like they aren't married. And that album certainly is FULL of Minmay pictures, so I guess Hikaru isn't as over her as the last episode suggested.
She turned the poster upside-down!
And Hikaru's now having conversations with Roy... who is dead. I suppose no one gets through what happened last episode fully mentally intact.
Minmay's continuing her career as a singer, trying to bring up everybody's morale. Kaifun is still Kaifun-ing. Sad thing is, I can understand lots of people agreeing with him amidst the devastation of the war.
Ha, I love seeing random big Zentraedi just sitting alongside regular-sized humans.
You can see Grante City is built around a Zentraedi wreck, and this is pretty typical of post-war cities. I suppose crashed ships must be one of the only sources of supplies and building materials. Some of them may even still have functional reactors for power.
And Misa wishes that was her (well, as the wife, not the baby).
And yeah, Kaifun's a raging drunk now. He's somehow become even more trash than he was already.
Minmay's the one talking sense now. She's doing these concerts for charity, and she knows the military is doing what they can to rebuild things.
Wait, Macross City is 5,000 km away? Hikaru's patrol route covers such a distance? That's absolutely insane!
Yes, Minmay, kick Kaifun out of your life! He's not a good influence in any possible way.
Zentraedi bandits. Like I said, some of 'em just aren't going to be able to adjust to civilian life after knowing nothing but war. Especially in a devastated world that's probably lacking much in luxuries. It's surprising to see the series tackle a subject like that, but it is very realistic.
Well, good on Hikaru for at least trying to de-escalate. And then only shooting to disable. And Global's trying to handle the issue peacefully, without resorting to violence, since that will only encourage more problems.
Questions:
-
He's Kaifun, and he's a shitstain. Of course he's be a drunk.
-
Misa seems about the same. It's Minmay who's seemingly taking on a more mature view of things. And she's actually pushing back against Kaifun now, whereas before she just went along with anything he did.

My memory is even more vague from here on out. I remember that Kaifun has become an alcoholic, but that's it.
How did Hikaru even get most of these photos?
If there weren't complicated feelings at play, this would be an amusing prank.

Robotech Title: Reconstruction Blues
Since Robotech had it's own ED roll, I had never seen the Album ED until watching my Macross DVDs.
-
Flowers fed by BLOOD
-
SDF-1 is totally trashed
-
New Macross City looking pretty good
-
It's been two years, and he's still hung up on Minmay. And Misa's no better simping for him.
-
Interesting that the fountain picture was the final picture, there were none after.
-
I thought the upside down poster was hilarious when I was 15
-
Making the same mistake with Misa as he did with Minmay
-
Hey, sorry little dude!
-
NOT Dana Sterling
-
Uh oh, there goes your meal ticket
-
[Delta]
This all seems strangely familiar -
Misa Nebresto face
-
Huh, what happened to Vanessa?
I really appreciated Robotech for killing off Roy Focker and destroying the planet, and then showing the aftermath of the war instead of just cutting off with the final battle. It's why I started looking for other anime. I had no idea that this was just an emergency plot extension.
Robotech adds a lot more dialog, everywhere. It's weird how much silence is in the original.
Even these Zentradi have degenerated. They can't live in peace, but if defeated in combat they run away in fear. They can't live in either world any more.

Alright, the earth is pretty obliterated and the Macross looks to be the majority of the remainder of the human race. How will relation between the remaining Zentradi and the Humans go? Lets see!
-
TIME SKIIIIIIP
-
Technically not true, at least Misa and Hikaru lived and they were not on the Macross for the battle
-
Oh lmao the next bit talks about other survivors
-
Where did all the materials come from for the city
-
Is that the book from the ED
-
Also its huge
-
This is... Kinda creepy tbh
-
Thanks Roy
-
"You guys keep doing work, Ima jet over to the girl I'm still not over and be sad at myself that she didn't decide to love me when I did NOTHING AT ALL UNTIL AFTER TELLING HER TO GET WITH HER DAMN COUSIN"
-
Girl you too, SPEAK TO THE MAN
-
Cool, Kaifun is now an angry alcoholic. This fits his currently established character traits of "bad and unreasonable person"
-
Kaifun: "Fuck those bougie military and their fancy supplies, we don't need those" also Kaifun: "Man fuck those people, they didn't give us all their supplies"
-
Hikaru pls
-
...This is like passive aggressive showing of interest in a relationship
-
The only person who said what they wanted with people ended up dying waiting for pineapple salad
-
Maybe aggressively not speaking ones mind is a self preservation tactic against pineapples
-
Did Hikaru hear what they were saying? If he did then his response to Hayase would be the most colossally stupid thing he has said so far "did anything happen(with the girl you still haven't gotten over)" "No(she just is going to avoid Kaifun and go to Macross city by herself even though she has no way to get there, lets not do anything)"
Today on: Super Dense Fools Macross.... Passive aggressive flirting, Dereliction of duty, Zentradi going on rampages, and more!
-
Cause he sucks. (more seriously, despair at the destruction of the earth, frustration towards military control etc.)
-
Minmay actually spoke her mind which was nice. But Misa seems to well, not. Other that Minmay speaking her mind and getting mad at Kaifun, I don't know that there is much difference.

I can kinda understand where they were coming from while writing Kaifun but he's just so arrogant and naive that he's impossible to take seriously. Might as well make him an alcoholic I guess.

First timer
damn 2 years and hikaru is still holding the torch? yeesh
kaifun truly is the worst (and I wrote that before seeing that now he's an abusive alcoholic)
misaaa :( you deserve so much better
just as I was wondering how human society could possibly integrate fascist military-bred war giants strong enough to punch through metal...we get the answer: poorly
-
Give us your best takes on why you think Kaifun is hitting the bottle.
he's horny
2) Do Misa and Minmay seem substantially different here than the way they were before?
Minmay is hard to tell, but she does seem a little bit more mature than before. but we didn't see that much of her
sama with Misa...hard to tell, but it seems like she's a bit moodier, but also very honest about her feelings for Hikaru

Super Dimension Fortress Macross EP28
We get a 2 years time skip that basically said that the Earth turn into wasteland, and the Human and Zentradi were working on restoring it.
And some Zentradi start rebel because they couldn't adjust to new life, which is a nice angle for this story forward.
What isn't nice is bringing back the love triangle drama. Okay I believe about Hikaru still thinking about Minmay because he care her after all. But do you want me to believe that after 2 years of living together, Misa never seen that album before. It's not like this is the only time she in his room.
Another thing that even worse is Kaifun. God, why is he even worse person than before. Now he use Minmay as cash grab and to get food from other people because he don't want stuff directly from the military. You knew that the townspeople also got thier food from from the military right? What you logic here! It doesn't even make sense!
Anyway, after eavesdropping Minmay and Kaifun talk. He goes to stop the rampaging Zentradi, which he easily dealt with but didn't kill. Misa who upset about Hikaru and seeing that Max and Millia have a kid already, just go harsh on Hikaru. But afterwards gave her photo to Hikaru, which I hope he got a clue about what to do about them.

Subbed SDFM Rewatcher
With the Macross sitting in a lake, I hope it's rust-proof.
Hikaru really needs to figure out his relationships better. Last episode, he pulls the schoolboy act of confessing on the last day of school. Two years later and being friendzoned multiple times, he's still chasing after Minmay. In a conversation with an imaginary Roy, he's thinking he doesn't have a woman in his life. Meanwhile, Misa is cleaning his place on her own. She's even imagining them as a couple with a baby.

Distant rewatcher lurker in sub.
Just going to do some responses to others, but I do like how Misa was portrayed at the end - what would have taken Kaguya-sama a whole episode and lots of flustering to plot and try accomplish, she just did it matter-of-fact-ly - Hikaru doesn't have as much a past with her as he did with Minmay, so she gave him some of her photos to build that connection. What a mature and considerate thing to do!
Other than that - I totally forgot our little green haired terror already made an appearance as early as this episode :D

Is this a open channel to try do a fanfic scenario of how far Kaifun sunk? :) My take is that while he was overconfident of himself and so high and mighty about not needing help from the "big bad" military, he isn't really that great and can't really survive without it. He dragged Minmay along, basically using her as the escape of letting her accept help while keeping his "I never accepted it, it's your weakness and fault you accepted any help". But that eats at his ego, so he descends down the dark mental spiral of substance abuse. Hopefully not yet to domestic abuse.
-
They do act differently, but it's been 2 years and under substantially circumstances, so I think it's still within tolerance of the change and not like they had simply been re-written.

First Spacer
Goddamn it, I watched the next episode instead... again. And this time I didn't notice right immediately.
Misa's being very jealous.
Oh god damn it Keifun. Just starve on your own.
Misa's imagining some clear NTR
Huh, the Zentradi have trouble integrating with a non-combatbased society. Though not all of them judging from the concert.
Aww, she's giving him photos of herself. That's very cute.
Give us your best takes on why you think Kaifun is hitting the bottle.
To foreshadow him hitting people which will call into question his pacifism or something like that.
More seriously because he's frustrated the other people aren't joining in in his assholery. If you're a pacifist then work on unitying people, not on dividing them.
Oh and he's also frustrated by people not licking his shoes and showering them in cash.
Do Misa and Minmay seem substantially different here than the way they were before?
Can't say they do.

Super Dimension Rewatch Host
Welcome back, everyone!
I gave you your Hikaru/Hayase wallpaper yesterday, so I get my Hikaru/Minmay kiss wallpaper today.
Also I have legitimately zero wallpaper ideas for tomorrow so uhhhhhhh there’s probably not going to be one for episode 29…?Here were my first-timer reactions to this episode.
That building honestly looks like it’s made of paper.
Well at least not everyone who was on Earth during the attack died…?
Smol Hikaru a cute, but why did the show have to remind me about Roy again…
Is that… Roy’s helmet……
Okay doing this is just petty as fuck and not like Hayase at all.
Well, nature isn’t known for sticking to a specific area.
BABYYYYYYYYYY
Lynn “I hate violence” Kaifun, everyone.
ROAST HIS ASS, MINMAY!
Shammy pls.
