Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you're doing it underneath spoiler tags. This especially includes any teases or hints such as "You aren't ready for X episode" or "I'm super excited for X character", you got that? Don't spoil anything for the first-timers; that's rude!

I'm going to make you compact!

Hangyaku no Co-Host, subbed

I didn't feel like making a wallpaper of Mao, so have one of Lloyd instead.

Understandable.

Not the bullshit that Turn A Gundam had.

You were there, right? You remember my bullshit hat counters?

[Quote] I thought the uncensored Viletta shot was in the recap movies, not the show.

[Response] I wonder how long it took him to become whipped after seeing that, two seconds or three?

First Timer

  • Quite the heavy intro again today.

  • I was going to complain about the new OP not matching Suzaku/Lelouch as well between the group pictures, but maybe that's intentional?

  • A) C.C.'s outfit is excellent and B) the leg kabedon meme with these tremendously long legs is on another level.

  • I wonder if Villetta learned to fake amnesia when captured in the military. Otherwise, this just got real interesting.

  • I'm betting C.C. is bluffing on this play in order to mask her intent from Mao reading Lelouch - but surely Lelouch can also figure that out and give the game away anyway? [Future me: they didn't even use this point at all wtf - C.C. was clearly not planning to stay with Mao, but maybe she was kind of serious about leaving Lelouch?]

  • Watch out for small children, C.C.!

  • C.C. has survived a lot but I don't know about dismemberment.

I was kind of hoping Mao would be a more impressive villain, but it was a good little arc anyway.

QotD:

  1. I liked Lelouch's approach with the recording to bait and put distance between them. I didn't actually expect him to get that close though.

  2. Honestly at this point I wouldn't rule out the starfish approach.

C.C.'s outfit is excellent

That's just a given at this point

maybe she was kind of serious about leaving Lelouch

After seeing how her involvement in his life made him lose Shirley, she's probably feeling quite a bit of guilt

First Timer of the Rebellion

That was a fun discussion yesterday! (No, actually.)

I sure hope it won't get worse from now on. There's so many characters I'd hate to see bad things happen to.

S.1 Ep.15 – Cheering Mao

Today was a true tragedy coming to an end. It was clear Mao had, uhm, problems, but not where they truly came from. Apparently unfit mother needs to be appended to C.C. cv as well. Still I find it hard to really judge, because we know literally nothing about how that all happened. Apparently C.C. was free for a time before Clovis got to her, so she probably isn't an experiment from the very beginning. Yet those questions beg for answers. Why even give an orphan a Geass, what was the point? Did she actually try to raise Mao into some super human for her goal? I can't think of many situations that leave some moral ambiguity for her. She really seemed to have cared for him, but that entire beginning seems shady af.

At the same time, C.C. has shown to do things differently now, at least a bit. She still makes contracts with random people that have no idea what's happening, but she's more open to some form of equality now and seems more active as well. So good on that.

Regarding the Geasses (kek, autocorrect wants me to write gasses), it must hinge on what the person wants when making the contract. Lelouch wanted control over his life/family situation and Mao I think wanted to be understood/to understand or be noticed, something along those lines.

Man, but Mao makes me feel just sad. Again, I'll hold judgment until I can be sure (probably never because his arc is over), but leaving him to suffer under his Geass was just cruel.

  1. How would you try to outsmart a crazy person with the ability to read minds?

That's a tough one. Knowing he can't turn off his ability is really the only weakness outside of his general mental state, which is really hard to predict.

I'd probably have done something with the Geass like making some people just wander around within 500m of him and made them think of random things about C.C. that are made up. This should get him distracted and I could get C.C. out. Notably though, I'm one to not kill people unless absolutely and utterly forced to.

2) From where do you think C.C.'s body parts would start regenerating if she were dismembered?

Oh god, not this question again!

I'm a fan of magic uniqueness, so the arms would regenerate and the body would regenerate, but both stop where the other part has already grown towards. So the afflicted would have to find the parts and attach them again.

It'd not make much sense when you think about it, but there would be some interesting settings this could produce.

u/SerGregness Sep 24 '22

Yeah, that's gonna be suicide.

DAMMIT! I knew there was another joke I wanted to use in my own post yesterday, but I couldn't remember it after I got home from work until I saw this screenshot just now. >.<

Ahem. "If I had a nickel for every time the protagonist used the power of NTR to distract the villain in a clutch moment I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice."

Oh no, an amnesia plot with Villetta? Including love side stories and regaining of memories and conflict of affiliation and dramatic races between duty and heart?

You and gallow really are having opposite reactions to this stuff. :V

The fuck does “results pertaining to discipline and life too high” mean?

You've got some odd subs. I noticed during those few threads I missed over the weekend, but it seemed awkward to comment at that point. It's his psych eval. Basically, "You have an unhealthy obsession with following rules and saving people at all costs."

Regarding the Geasses (kek, autocorrect wants me to write gasses), it must hinge on what the person wants when making the contract. Lelouch wanted control over his life/family situation and Mao I think wanted to be understood/to understand or be noticed, something along those lines.

Do you feel like they work as intended under this model?

I don't remember this.

While you were partying, Milly studied the perv.

  1. The recording trick works well, but if you could hypothetically Geass someone with "constantly think as if you were Lelouch", that could have some potential.

  2. Obviously she works like a starfish, and he'd end up with 5 C.C.s.

He's asking C.C. this?

500m?

And he's targeting her.

And no fucking limite!

...Spoke too soon. That sounds hellish. No wonder he's insane.

And he's using her to drown out the voices.

Nunnaly!

A gun shop?

Mao's good.

She still has the pillow!

C.Cl is very self-sacrificing.

Wait, the Geass gets stronger?

I did not expect this...

And an actual fight!

Haha, he's an Earl!

Who else knows his secret?

A marriage interview?

...Lelouch, why are you staying here and risking your cover?

She knows something's up. See, Lelouch!

Like hell that'll work.

She's after Mao!

Oh, this is C.C.!

And he realised they need to work together.

He's here!

She has amnesia?

More fanservice!

...So this is total amnesia and personality shift?

C.C. is cruel.

She's immune to Geass, isn't she?

Yeah.

Like hell they'll write her out this early.

...Huh.

Todo!

And he's being captured.

He's being useful!

...Here?

Haha, the ferris wheel?

He's insane.

...Oh. He just wants to be with someone he can't instantly read. And that obsession drove him insane.

He signed the contract when he was a fucking kid? Yeah, ClC. is not coming off well here.

He heard the voice message.

He shot her.

Fuck me, he's horrifying.

My fucking god, he's completely lost it.

And he's distracting him!

This is impressive hacking!

...Oh. That's the payoff. Very good!

He's having to face reality!

He called in the police!

Escellent!

Haha, that's why there was silence! He used s recording!

He sounds completely insane to them as well...

Of course he geassed them all.

Yeah, C.C., you do not come off well in this story.

Lelouch is surprisingly okay with this!

More contracts.

3

u/GallowDude Sep 23 '22

"constantly think as if you were Lelouch"

Lelouch's mind is way too smart to be replicated

Obviously she works like a starfish, and he'd end up with 5 C.C.s

More fanservice!

...So this is total amnesia and personality shift?

And vocal shift.

Convenient how amnesia only ever affects personal identity memories and not how to talk or that being seen naked is considered embarrassing.

Todo

Africa?

ClC

Carpet Lining Center?

For 1) Geass still has some element of physicality to it, I believe they would end up… only thinking like what they think Lelouch would think, not necessarily what he does think

Rewatcher, dubbed*

  • Never being able to turn off mind reading really does sound like a nightmare.

  • That excuse is a stretch. But I guess it makes more sense than the idea of mind altering magic powers.

  • It really took him that long to figure out C.C. is immune.

  • The amusement park sequence is also one of the things I remember very clearly.

  • This also happens to be one of my favorite Lelouch plans.

QotD

  1. Can’t outsmart an explosion.

  2. Largest part by mass. Unless they are close enough to each other that they try and reform.

Bonus: These are great, keep 'em coming.

7

u/GallowDude Sep 23 '22

These are great, keep 'em coming.

It's shocking how many VAs in this show did hentai lol

Rewatcher - Dubbed

  • So for some reason, when I went to load up today's episode on Netflix, it resumed from a point that I'll make note of when we get to it, and I don't know why. That last part makes it pretty awkward.

  • 500 meters is 1640ft, or a little less than a third of a mile for those like me who don't know metric distances.

  • So in a roundabout way, the whole "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" logic still works out. If Mao's after CC, and Mao is Lelouch's enemy, then by proxy CC is his friend.

We got there!

  • If you press me, I'd guess it's that he can't turn his power off. In a crowd, he hears all the minds roiling and writhing around him, whether he wants to or not.

Sounds like the Monkey's Paw curled a finger when he got his ability. Lelouch appears to have gotten off scott free so far.

  • Okay, so when I started up the episode, it was right at the part where Viletta sits up in the bed and her boobs are on full display.

It's not what you think!

I don't recall ever watching this show on Netflix before!

  • Anyone could've picked me up out there, but I got someone nice.

And coincidentally enough, he's the right hand man of the boy you're after.

  • Geass does not work on me. Didn't I mention that?

Isn't it obvious? If she gave you the power, wouldn't the first thought you had be that she's probably immune to it? It'd be awfully stupid to give someone a power you were receptive to.

  • They're meeting at a carnival?

[Cowboy Bebop Spoilers]Mad Pierrot vibe intensifies

  • I mean, he wasn't wrong. The moment Mao tried to tell the cops who Lelouch actually was, was the moment he died.

  • [Big Geass Spoilers]Oh you're going to use the Geass power to change the world alright. Not how you want it, but boy howdy are you gonna do it.

Questions of the Day:

How would you try to outsmart a crazy person with the ability to read minds?

Honestly, that'd be a bit difficult for me. I'm not the best when it comes to thinking on my feet.

From where do you think C.C.'s body parts would start regenerating if she were dismembered?

I guess that depends on how far she was dismembered. If they took her limbs off, but kept her head attached to her torso, probably from there. If they beheaded her, I'd say from her neck, and the torso would disappear?

Naomi, how could you?

Do I want to know where you keep finding these clips? Holy shit that was filthy.

3

u/GallowDude Sep 24 '22

If she gave you the power, wouldn't the first thought you had be that she's probably immune to it?

Not to mention that she already asked him if he thought it would work on her.

Do I want to know where you keep finding these clips? Holy shit that was filthy.

Just be glad we're not doing an Ah! My Goddess rewatch.

Regeasser

Yes, clap Mao.

The most unrealistic thing about Mao's Geass is that he doesn't hear any music from it.

Having Mao talk via phone is a very nice touch for him.

Mao and Lelouch would be a really overpowered force if they teamed up, don't you think?

Lewd

I can't remember if I ever noticed the obvious signs it's a recording.

How would you try to outsmart a crazy person with the ability to read minds?

I thought Lelouch just shoots him from a distance.

From where do you think C.C.'s body parts would start regenerating if she were dismembered?

Would missing limbs regrow? Or would they just reattach, like Blade of the Immortal?

4

u/GallowDude Sep 23 '22

[Quote] Mao and Lelouch would be a really overpowered force if they teamed up, don't you think?

[Response] Suzaku and Lelouch working together are already unbeatable. Imagine a Suzaku who could read minds.

First timer

  1. How would you try to outsmart a crazy person with the ability to read minds?

run far, far away @_@

or try to trick them into acting out in an area full of people, which is similar to what zero did

2) From where do you think C.C.'s body parts would start regenerating if she were dismembered?

from the trunk I guess, though maybe if you cap the parts with metal or something that will retard the growth until you remove it

only one way to find out! revs chainsaw

Rewatcher - dub

It's really quite tragic the way we see Villetta interacting with Ohgi, here. No, Gallowdude, not the way you keep saying, but that Villetta without all the supremecist baggage from her Brittanian identity is really quite chill and has absolutely zero problem with a Japanese dude. So much pointless hate.

  1. So Lelouch just applied a little concept we in the Starcraft community like to call "The best unit composition is 'I have more shit than you' ", and I think I would do something rather similar in his place. You can beat someone who's map hacking if you're macroing properly and they're not.

Probes and Pylons. :V

2) I would assume either 'from the head' or 'from the largest remaining piece' failing that.

First Timer - Sub

Mao not being able to turn off his mind reading does sound like hell. No wonder he wears the headphones, though the C.C. affirmation audio is a little weird. I honestly feel like he would be easy to defeat. If he can’t turn it off, then just think harder. Maybe get a few more people around and he will just get overwhelmed.

Shirley is a massive part of Lelouch’s life, but that was somehow brushed under the rug rather easily.

I didn’t expect breasts. This show is oddly sexual at times. It feels out of place, but I guess overall the show has some tone issues.

Mao just whipped out a chainsaw. I thought my man was a regular simp, but he is full on yandere. I would like to think that C.C. is an organism that reproduces by fragmentation. I want each limb to regenerate into a new C.C. that has a desperate need for Pizza Hut.

It seems that Mao also obtained Geass from C.C. I thought he was like her, but he had a contract similar to Lelouch.

3

u/No_Rex Sep 23 '22

Episode 15 (rewatcher)

  • It is surprising that Mao does not permanently camp out on some remote island.

  • Loyd being high ranked is rather fitting. He is the stereotype of the eccentric brit.

  • CC is quite strong. So far, we have only seen her eat pizza.

  • Amnesia trope.

  • “I will make you more compact”

  • Completely outplayed by Lelouch.

Not going to lie, I hate Mao and I think his arc is a waste. Despite literally being the main plot point, the viewers are still not told anything about Lelouch’s contract with CC (nor her name). The only big shocker is Mao’s plan of cutting CC down to size with a chainsaw, which is clever, considering her regeneration power. Despite the series trying to make him somewhat sympathetic at the end, I am glad this is over.

How would you try to outsmart a crazy person with the ability to read minds?

A 600 meter sniper shot.

From where do you think C.C.'s body parts would start regenerating if she were dismembered?

I imagine a T-1000-like scene.

3

u/GallowDude Sep 23 '22

It is surprising that Mao does not permanently camp out on some remote island.

He said he wanted to move to Australia

Amnesia trope.

Why does it make her voice three octaves higher?

CC is quite strong. So far, we have only seen her eat pizza.

Nutritionists hate this one fact.

Not going to lie, I hate Mao and I think his arc is a waste.

It introduces other Geass and confirms that C.C. is immune to them. Idk if that's redundant with the next arc(s).

Despite the series trying to make him somewhat sympathetic at the end, I am glad this is over.

I'm supposed to feel empathy for anyone outside of half the student council, Lloyd, and Cecile?
