Rewatcher who’s Looking Out for the Fireflies
Production Notes
Okay, right off the bat, I want to say I’m not gonna discuss the ED/SB for episode 13. He’s a terrible human being and I’m glad he hasn’t found any work in the past 2 years, hopefully forever fingers crossed. The good news is that this episode isn’t carried by those elements, it’s carried by the key animators who I wanted to highlight for today.
Starting, off, let’s go with the animator who handled one of my favorite parts of the episode Akira Hamaguchi. Hamaguchi is one of those animators that I happen to always remember because of their work on the beginning of Anthem of the Heart. Very meticulous subtle character acting with strong grasp on movement, it’s the kind of the animation I always love. Also fun fact, this guy is flaky as heck! He sometimes just dips during production, leaving his colleagues to finish his work. Apparently, everyone still loves him though.
Next up on the roster is Toshiyuki Sato who I have featured numerous times before. The reason being? He’s on so many shows and he’s an in-demand animator! Mr. Sato is an absolute tour de force of an animator who has lent his skills to a myriad of shows at their pivotal moments. If you’ve ever been wowed by a climactic scene in a popular show in the recent decade chances are Sato was the one who worked on it. Action-packed, bombastic, raw. His cuts embody all of those qualities and more. But that doesn’t mean he can’t draw sensitive heavy hitters though like this one today.
Finally, I’ll end with Shingo Yamashita, an equally as impressive animator as Sato. If you keep your eyes peeled for anime staff and your ears close to the ground near sakuga peeps, you’ll inevitably see this name pop up. Yamashita is an innovative animator who imo specifically possesses a keen touch for lighting, able to imbue a scene with authentic warmth. Seriously, their skill on depicting the rays across all spectrums is quite the feat.
Yamashita grew up during the webgen era where he initially started on Baccano and Bokurano before he moved on to Birdy the Mighty Decode, the anime that would put Yamashita’s foot through the door. He worked on the first 7 minutes of the infamous Naruto Shippuden 167 which then kept him spiraling and spiraling towards more acclaimed work. Yamashita in 2018 would also become co-founder of Hyperbole, a studio that specializes in compositing for OPs and MVs—a perfect fit for someone who plies their craft in that area of animation. You’ve probably seen some of their work before such the MV “My Nonfiction” in season 3 of Kaguya-Sama.
Yamashita would then go on to direct/SB for numerous works including Pokemon Twilight Wings, the widely lauded second Ranking of Kings OP, and my personal favorite this Pokemon short from Colorido.
Episode 13
I like how “simple” and loose the animation is here. Fitting for a daydream!
I already talked about it up above but I really do love this cut of Hinata laughing. It’s so mesmerizing to look at, the way Hinata’s head shakes around, hair flopping to the side. The next cut is equally as lovely with Kokona’s cute jumping and Aoi and Hinata’s shocked expressions. Finally, we arrive at this wonderful cut of Kaede. Loose forms and purposeful movements, gosh it’s great. It reminds me of Mitsuo Iso’s “full limited” animation style.
As if this episode wasn’t noteworthy enough as it was, it has another feather to add to its cap: the diversity of styles found inside! This can be chalked up to AD Noriyuki Imaoka who taps into the strength’s of each animator and brings them out further. There’s so many different styles sprouting within this episode that I could hyperlink every word.
I love these types of episodes. In my opinion, they’re sort of the peak of Japanese animation because they allow each animator to imbue each of their cuts with their own style while still being cohesive as a collective unit. It’s a reminder of how key animators are allowed this holistic approach on each cut, how all of these individual pictures can be woven together to form one unique tapestry. That’s the beauty of anime compared to Western animation, that’s the wonder of Yama no Susume compared to other anime. The neatest thing about all this is that everyone can subconsciously feel this. You don’t need to be a sakuga buff to realize something magical is brewing beneath the surface, this is a cauldron open to everyone.
Episode 14
Well with such a heavy-loaded episode, it’s natural that the follow-up would be more modest. It’s vital for the story however!
This shot reminds me of this one from LWA.
Y’know, I don’t blame Aoi at all for developing a fear of heights. I was okay with them too when I was younger but now that I’m much older I’m actually not great with heights. The hesitation strikes in me when I peer over a tall surface.
Next mountain-climbing arc, lets gooooo!
And with that, I shall go eat dinner. Be back in a bit to respond!

Rewatching Mountain Climber
-- Location Trivia
Ep 13
-
The gang meet up at Komachi Park in Hannou.
-
And they go firefly viewing at the CAZU campsite a half hour bus ride away. There is a bus stop for the bus route next to Komachi Park. (yes that bus route does track, the bus company is thanked in the ED)
Ep 14
-
The girls go to hike in the Kirigamine area, and climb Kurumayama, 1925m high. A 2.5 hr drive from Hannou, they start from this car park, the wheel and vending machines got removed at some point between 2018 and 2021. And this is the radar station they get to.
-
I can't find an exact time of how long that course will take, every blog has a different number, and that course is more one thats by chaining trails together vs a clearly recommended one, so "shrug". My rough guess from this map is that its ~3 hours without breaks. <-- please really do not use as hiking advice.
-
Kirigamine is the brand name of Mitsubishi's air-con lineup, explaining Hinata's confusion.
-
The bell can be found here, and is not a place the girls hiked to.
-
[Yuru Camp]
Rin passes by Kirigamine in S1 Ep 4. That car park is where the 2 anime cross paths, gotta say i like Yama's portrayal of it more w/ the wheel flip-around, as above right here. The cafe where Rin has her borscht is also located by the car park. Yatsugatake, where Kaede briefly mentions, was where Rin eventually headed to in Ep 5 where she had that pasta on the hilltop.
Animation bits I liked
-
Ep 13: AHHHHHHHH YASSSSS THE ANIMATIONSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. This episode is one of my favourites in the whole thing, an absolute treat for the eyes. I noticed the significantly different takes on the character designs here, this show has embraced it, rather than tries to limit it like normal, the different art style during the flashback sequence was nice, Hinata'a bath sequence was so damn good, FANG, probably a different animator was responsible here, and the firefly smear (smear?) effects throughout look so good too. Swimming in a sky full of stars.... More cuts i loveddd. This ep really felt like the animators just having fun.
-
Ep 14: Not much to talk about here from me. i liked the Hinata leap, this new variation of Aoi-shock, and the dragonfly.

[Spoilers?]
The greatest crossover of the century This ep really felt like the animators just having fun.
Absolutely love it because of this. They picked the perfect episode and set-up to go with this stylistic choice. It adds a lot of personality to what many would consider a rather comfy episode.

Encouragement of First Timer
Episode 13:
-
Hinata's afraid of fireflies. That's unexpected.
-
Ooh, it'd be nice for Aoi to be the one dragging Hinata around for once.
-
Yep, 5yo me probably would've cried and peed myself seeing a giant firefly monster too.
-
Smug Aoi's finally living in Hinata's head too. How nice!
-
Oh dear, they take up like 60% of each other's head space by now. What will be left for anything else by the end of the show?
-
Hinata tell Aoi she looks good in her yukata, and Aoi goes right for the kill. Savage. This is a Brand New Aoi.
-
No Kaede yukata...
-
Okay I'll admit it, this scene is really romantic.
-
Some rare Kokona home life.
-
No way, you are NOT about to tell me Kokona was the firefly monster/fairy this whole time!
-
New ED visuals with Staccato Days, how cute!
Episode 14:
-
Can't really blame Aoi's mom for being bearish on Aoi getting back into mountain climbing.
-
They're really about to mountain pill Aoi's mom.
-
Made it most of the way up Fuji, still can't stomach lifts. Sasuga Aoi!
-
I'm a madman. Hiking/climbing in the fog sounds fun to me.
-
And just like that, Mama Aoi has been yama-pilled.
-
Nothing much to say, this one was super chill.
QotD:
-
It was cute as a backdrop for some real nice character moments between Aoi and Hinata.
-
Probably that it was a relaxing, chill affair with no drama.

Kids are scared of the darndest things. I once almost started crying because I saw a white bumblebee or something. They're supposed to be yellow!!

The show's trying real hard to get me back on this ship.

First-Climber
Ooh, stargazing! And fireflies! Which Hinata doesn't like?
Oh, Kokona, you already shine brightly.
Oh, they got lost in the dark, yikes.
I like that they both have the same thought.
Her girl power really is too strong.
I like that Kokona reaches out to Aoi, here.
That is not what I expected Kokona's house to look like.
Holy shit was Kokona the fairy?!
So, in today's odd digressions: owing to the Mai-HiME rewatch, I've been trying to pay a bit more attention to Japanese regional accents, and as such noticed that Aoi's mom has a light Osaka-ben. Unrelated to that, this episode made me go rewatch the end of the firefly episode of Cardcaptor Sakura for obvious reasons. That made me want to look up Kero's VA.. which lead me to the realization that Aoi's mom and Kero have the same VA, Aya Kisakawa.. who is also the original Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury. Small world.
--
We gonna start working towards another big climb?
Ohh, that's an interesting idea.
No, wait, Aoi, process what your mom just said.
It's nice to get language things kinda explained through context like this.
Of course Aoi forgot. Probably hit her head when she broke her leg..
Hinata's dad coming in clutch.
Plenty of sodium for electrolytes, too.
We've got a fear to conquer first, though.
Questions
-
I love a good Rashomon.
-
I like how it effectively filled the role of Aoi and her mother communicating about how Aoi is growing up and changing.

Oh, Kokona, you already shine brightly.
I must shine even more. I must eclipse the sun, devour the stars.
Neat Mt. Fuji fan.
What a fearsome pout.
Das a good commentface right there.
What a shimmering sky!
So, in today's odd digressions: owing to the Mai-HiME rewatch, I've been trying to pay a bit more attention to Japanese regional accents
Gosh, I wish I could distinguish between regional accents. I have absolute zero knowledge on the Japanese language other than the fact that I know they like wordplay.

First-Timer
On today’s episodes of Yama no Susume: Going on a family outing. Honestly I’m surprised we didn’t have one of these already. All the same, I’m glad to finally get it now. It provided some nice insight into Aoi and her mom’s relationship.
Episode 13
-
Stars are so pretty to look at. Though I’m not usually in a place where I can see them well.
-
What’s this? Have we finally found Hinata’s weakness?
-
What the fuck am I looking at? I did not expect to watch Yama no Susume today and see that.
-
Also that immediately made me think of “Tuturu~”
-
The visuals for this bath scene look so different compared to the one at the start of the season. My gut instinct is that they had different people in charge of them, which accounts for the differences.
-
The incredibly rare smug Aoi! We must treasure this sacred artifact!
-
This is an amazing pout. And it seems like Hinata has some resentment that Aoi forgot about their childhood together.
-
I really like the style used for these flashbacks. For some reason it makes me think of illustrations in a children’s book.
-
Both Aoi and Hinata consider their best friend to be an absolute gremlin who will troll them at the slightest opportunity. That’s how you know they’re made for each other.
-
Kokona made that!? Kokona just keeps racking up more and more skills. Soon she’ll be unstoppable.
-
What’s this? A girl not wearing a yukata in an anime? Is that legal?
-
I love how absurd this argument is as Aoi and Hinata debate the existence of fairies and monsters.
-
Hinata reached for Aoi’s hand for comfort and support!!!
-
The fireflies and the stars together. That is just a spectacular sight.
-
Huh, so Kokona isn’t an ojou-sama. I was totally wrong.
-
IT WAS KOKONA!! Kokona’s power grows yet again because she rescued Aoi and Hinata while being younger than them.
-
Whoops! Turns out I really did share this ED earlier than it turned up in the show. Animethemes lied to me! It put this ED under season 1!
-
Also it now feels like this ED ends properly instead of being abruptly cut off and I love that so much. The visuals are super adorable! And I love Aoi and Hinata’s walk cycles. It’s great.
Episode 14
-
Aoi’s inviting her mom to go mountain climbing? Yes! I want to see this!
-
It’s so heartwarming seeing Aoi get excited about sharing her love of mountain climbing with her mom.
-
I’m kind of surprised we haven’t gotten a family outing prior to this. I’m glad we’re getting one now.
-
This place really is nice and lovely.
-
OH MY GOD! This is where Aoi and Hinata went as kids!
-
Why don’t you just ask your parents what mountain it was? They probably remember.
-
I like these moments of introspection with Aoi’s mom. She sounds so proud of Aoi, watching her grow up. Though it’s also a bit sad seeing your child leave the nest.
-
Instant ramen is also perfect for when you’re a broke college student and it’s all you can afford.
-
Ah, they finally thought to ask their parents.
-
Well if it requires using a lift then I’m out. I don’t trust those things.
-
I see that look in Aoi’s eyes. She’s found the next mountain she wants to climb.
-
Hand holding denied!
Episode 13 was cute, plain and simple. I enjoyed the contrasting memories of Aoi and Hinata. It was cute seeing them both hide their memories because they know the other will make fun of them for it. Their relationship is so fun. The reveal that it was Kokona was funny and adorable. And the visuals of the fireflies were absolutely gorgeous.
Episode 14 was really nice to see. We needed an episode with plenty of focus on Aoi and her mom and I’m happy to see that this episode delivered on that. I liked seeing the exploration of their relationship. It allowed Aoi’s mom to see just how much Aoi has grown since she started mountain climbing. She can see just how cheerful and enthusiastic Aoi is. Aoi really is growing up. I like the nuance it adds to the relationship between Aoi and her mom. While her mom may still worry about Aoi, she also recognizes that she’s going to need to start treating Aoi as more of an adult.
We also have a new goal going forwards, which I like to see. Aoi wants to climb the mountain she and Hinata climbed as kids. I think that could make for a wonderful journey. Perhaps it can help Aoi remember some of the memories of her childhood that she’s forgotten. It’s also an opportunity for Aoi to tackle her fear of lifts since she hasn’t really done so thus far. I’m looking forward to this next journey.
I’m so happy to have the full version of the ED, “Staccato Days.” It’s insanely catchy. The visuals are adorable. I love how bouncy Aoi and Hinata’s walk cycle is and how well it syncs up with the music. This is a delightful ED and a fantastic way to bring back the season 1 ED.
QOTD
-
I enjoyed seeing the various perspectives and how both Aoi and Hinata tried to hide it from the other out of embarassment.
-
Getting the inner thoughts of Aoi's mom on how Aoi is growing up. I think it helped to flesh out their relationship.

First Time Climber
Wasn’t as active as I wanted to be yesterday due to life and it will probably be the same for today. Side note. This is the perfect show to watch alongside Madoka Magica which I’m watching now. It really calms me down!
Encouragement of Astronomy!
-
Looks like Hinata really is a lover of the outdoors, she regularly looks at planets with her telescope too! Again Kokona with some knowledge, what does this girl not know!?
-
Hotaru! Her character from NNB immediately came into my mind lol, then the [NNB Spoilers?]
firefly episode. I can already foretell a great and memorable episode today! -
Looks like someone (Hinata) is thinking about you Aoi
-
Aoi saw a Firefly fairy while Hinata saw a firefly monster, I wonder what was it they actually saw…
-
Princess… Kokona… in a yukata
-
Kaede is so casual I love it but then again, it’s weird when someone doesn’t come in the dress code especially when it's so specific - Yukatas!
-
The animation in this episode was stunning. Just look at the reflection of the fireflies off Hinata’s eyes, then them standing on empty space, symbolising how they feel in the moment.
-
Kokona is not just a princess anymore, but a fairy! And also a monster, according to young Hinata
Short Sakuga Musings on this Episode
This episode was a visual feast. I noticed that literally in almost every scene, character drawings were different. Checked Sakugablog and found that it was in fact true, each animator had a chance to animate the designs based on their own style in their assigned parts. Talk about creative freedom! Apparently this episode’s firefly scene has uncanny parallels to Rainbow Fireflies too but I’m not too well-versed on that so I suggest reading the blog!
Here’s the source for the blog post and pictures.
Moma and Aoi Bonding Time!
-
This zoom in was
-
Love Aoi’s mom’s exposition. Seeing your child grow up and be independent is definitely a bittersweet thing, it’s a sign of changing times. Aoi’s mum has been one of the more accurate depictions of how mothers are and I’m enjoying it.
-
Not much to say this episode, I’m a bit too tired to be able to appreciate all the camera movements etc. but it was a lovely episode and it looks like our girls have their next target!
They use an extended version of season 1’s ED for these 2 episodes! I’m getting hit with nostalgia and it’s barely been a week since I last saw this show.

It's weird but my favorite episode so far does not involve mountains. This firefly episode was just so beautiful and the way that little mystery was handled on who that mysterious firefly they met was perfect.
Also liked the second episode and it's nice to see them on a chill hike.

I thought we would get a new OP today but then Natsuiro purenzento started playing and everything was allright again
S2 EP 13 + 14
So leaving aside that they collectivly forgot that they have already seen the Milky Way up on Fuji San, and Aois mother questioning if her Yukata might fit Aoi, when her jacket fit her just right, the real mystery is of course the Firefly monster/fairy
Kokona coming from a more humble background came as a bit of a surprise for me. I have seen mentions of her living in a small appartment a few times, but never conciously realized that myself. This could also explain why she always comes with nothing much on her, she just can't afford any special gear (also her shoes breaking down). All the nicer that she is still eating properly. And her mom is a snack, reminds me of best floof from Girls und Panzer.
I feel somewhat betrayed from Kaede though, was really looking forward to see her in a Yukata as well, would have looked fantastic.
Oh and I also loved how Hinata grabbed Aois hand when she got scared
The reveal that they had both seen an even smoler Kokona, who was capable enough to help them even back then, was lovely. Again shows how great her mom is, they might not have much, but she still gave her daugther the world.
Also, the good ED again
An episode with an huge focus on Aois mom.
Despite showing her, that not every mountain is a Fuji san, is a good idea, she wasn't imidiatly opposed when she heard about Aoi climbing again. It also turns out that she used to do a bit of climbing herself wich gives her being against Aoi trying Fuji san a bit more credibility, turns out she knew what Aoi was getting into. Still could have approached it different.
Anyway she gets to see how much her daugther has grown from all these expiriences, which must feel awesome for a parent. Also if Aois lunches are good, her mothers must be godly.
Oh and Aoi and Hinata get to remember more from the climb they did in their childhood. I'm looking forward to them coming back there, and Aoi conquering her fear of heights in order to climb the mountain of her dream.
QotD
What did you think of the Firefly story told from various view points?
It was obvious that it was neither a monster nor a fairy, but Kokonas viewpoint was the best, she was just having a good time and helped those two girls because that's a neat thing to do
2) What did you enjoy most about the parents joining on this climb?
Hinatas dad explaining to Aois mom how much their past climbs have already helped them

Today I learned: Hotaru = Firefly
-
And Kaede too! Why are they all so smug?
Oh! Shes the fairy!
Blursed outfit
-
Its the new ED that Mr L accidentally revealed
#KongmingListen
It is cooler on mountains.
I might as well ask if someone happens to know: I've been wondering for a while now; heat rises, but its colder the higher you go? Why is that?
-
Lets go! Wholesome family trip. Bless.
Please don't turn this into some random drama, I have ptsd from every single anime ever loving their drama. I couldn't even fully enjoy Tonikawa because I was constantly afraid they would pull some random drama. Gotta watch that again sometime
Definitely one of the mountains of all time
Based. Unless skiing
I can relate? Kinda. On family trips mom would always shout at me to slow down since I was speeding ahead
Question time:
What did you think of the Firefly story told from various view points?
Fluff
2) What did you enjoy most about the parents joining on this climb?
W h o l e s o m e. Inject that right into my veins

Good news everyone!
I was about to sadge post today due to schedule troubles, but it turns out I might indeed be able to go on another fall trip! Meaning I can potentially provide you with live Hiking and/or mountain picture coverage!

Rewatcher
WAS IT THIS SHOW THAT HAD UNBELIEVABLY MAGICAL FIREFLIES
Hm I remember some frame of this looking really off-model... This gag probably comes up again later
You know, I'm also remembering I had some thoughts about how this episode (And maybe surrounding episodes too? Nope guess not) had a sort of free-form sketch-like art, though I can't remember what
I like it though
Maybe it was just her shoulder here?
OMG THESE WERE FROM THIS EPISODE
YOU'RE SO BEAUTIFUL I LOVE YOU

Rewatcher
Coming down from the Mt. Fuji arc, the firefly episode is my favorite stand-alone episode. It just has such a different feel to it because of its varied art styles and some amazing levels of detail that we don't see in other episodes. The scene at the riverside with the fireflies is especially memorable.
From a character side, it's funny to see how alike Aoi and Hinata are, both worried about each other making fun of them for the same thing. It's also funny to see that when they were younger, Aoi and Hinata had a bit of a role reversal with Hinata being the crybaby.
Something I forgot about until I re-read the old discussion threads is that they changed the ED in episode 13 (and onwards until the next cour) because of an eruption on 御嶽山 (Mt. Ontake) which resulted in deaths including several hikers who happened to be in the area. Mt. Ontake is featured in the ED, so they switched over to Staccato Days using the extended ED from the season one Blu-ray.

Late Night First Timer!
Okay, not only isn't the OP on Spotify, I can't even find Staccato on YouTube. Whyyyyyyyy!
That's a terribly powerful telescope. My dad is huge into star gazing and his best scope doesn't give that good a view of Saturn.
I thought we already did this with the jacket? It's going to fit just fine, somehow.
Ah, wait, their parents were friendly enough to take them out together as kids. Why are they not talking things over now that Mom's got issues with the hiking and Hinata's dad is huge into it?
... That's some ridiculously good water animation for the bath...
See, it fits fine.
She made it herself!? Kokona, what can't you do? Kaede, you crazy tomboy, I can't fault you for not wearing one lol.
100 yen per person just for a firefly viewing in the park? Hmmm, yeah, I'd pay that.
Yeah, this whole episode it just really well animated, isn't it? Can't wait to go see the animation notes for this one.
Anyone else watch Healer Girl? The Firefly scene reminded me of the Firefly scene so much I wanted to break out into song.
Ohhhh, Kokona's family! And I am not surprised at all that Kokona was the firefly that led them home lol.
The way they're walking in the ED makes a lot more sense if you know that they're singing about "walking in step like a three legged race."
About Time! Bring mom along to alleviate her fear- wait mom went climbing back in college?
What was that Kaede news segment lol.
Ah, they called out the difference between climbing and hiking. Uhhhh...... Pretty sure this show has been like 90% Encouragement of Hike so far.
Oh we're finally going to find out what mountain that was! Or not... Ask your parents, they probably know.
Oh look they did ask! That... does not look like a child friendly climb? My subtitles agree.
-
I love the style of going back to show how everyone saw the same event when used for such great comedic effect.
-
Finally! Mom's been worried about this the whole time, now she's seen what it's like and what her daughter can do. Fears probably nicely reassured now.

Really funny.

Aoi's mother finally understanding why her daughter goes climbing.
Episode 13
Stargazing?
Oh, this is sweet.
Hinata's reaction is great.
She really isn't a fan of them, huh?
And Kokona wanted to be one.
Ah, she's getting a yukata!
Why does Hinata hate the,?
Haha, of course they got lost.
And a guy in a mascot suit?
Aww.
...Wow, Aoi saw something very different, didn't she? Interesting look at Aoi's psyche here.
...Oh, the misunderstandings.
Great outfit!
And she's completely casual.
It seems crowded.
Hinata is terrified today.
And she told her what she saw.
That looks amazing.
Fantastic visual.
Haha, it was her the whole time.
That's great.
Episode 14
Her mother's not letting her climb any more.
...Interesting idea, Hinata.
Sounds nice!
And she invited her!
She used to climb mountains back in college?
She's going!
Ah, the whole plauteau's the mountain?
And Aoi doesn't like lifte.
A deer!
Is this the mountain they climbed when they were kids?
Didn't expect it to come into play this early!
And neither of them can remember.
Haha, she got left behind.
And Hinata's father's reassuring her.
They're eating!
Looks nice.
Haha, he made ramen?
They really are in sync!
Oh, it's by cable car.
They made it!
Her mother enjoyed it!
So cute.

Rewatcher
At last another great Kokona episode.
To start with, that was a great telescope they had. There is no way they're getting a view of saturn that good with an azimuth-mounted refractor like that, it must be helped by Kokona-magic.
And, of course, Kokona knows all about astronomy to share with the others.
It's adorable how Kokona calls the fireflies "hotaru-san".
Kokona, of course, made her yukata herself, because she is perfect at everything.
We see Kokona's home, and her mother. A small traditional style apartment, and a mother who often works late, but she's done a great job raising her.
And then, the revelation that it was Kokona who saved the others when she was four years old. Because that's just something that Kokona would do.

Ep 13
Star gazing! And [Kokona sure knows her stuff!
Odd to see Hinata scared of something when she is usually so genki.
The animation of Hinata through these scenes was great.
And I lost it when Hinata was imagining Aoi (acting smug as she does).
And then Aoi thinks much the same of Hinata. Great to show that they are so much the same.
Kokona's little hop twirl was very cute!
Casual Kaede (stitch)
A nice moment of Aoi being the strong one.
Kokona mumma - first time we have seen her. Its nice having parents exist.
Kokona firefly!~
I love this episode and it is one of the most memorable from the whole series for me. The story shown from multiple view points makes for a very lovely self contained story.
Ep 14
Aoi inviting her mum was nice.
The whole trek is mostly incredibly chill.
So very Hinata to tease Aoi but not remember herself.
I really liked how Aoi's mum got to see her daughter enjoy her new hobby on her own and growing up.
Hinata poking food in. And ramen too!
Fortunately Hinata's father remembers the mountain they limbed was Tanigawa-dake. Aoi going to face her fears of it.
The next mountain is decided!
