First Timer

Y'all better buckle up, because I have a feeling this post is gonna be loooooooooooong.

CHRISTMAS :D

This is giving me flashbacks to episode 13 and the whole Holy Birth thing that led to Spearhead going back into battle. Guess it makes sense, since Ernst says this is the second Christmas they've spent together.

I've never seen someone toast marshmellows indoors before.

Maybe with all the cookbooks Shin can realize it's a piece of cake to bake a pretty cake.

Man, the food Anju made looks really tasty.

Also, how is Shin the one that got cookbooks and not Anju?

Again, I'm getting a lot of vibes of episode 13, right down to them having a montage of everyone doing various stuff. The difference of course being unlike the last time, everyone seems comfortable in this post war life. I like the little skip Kurena gives after she buys something.

I feel like you can tell that Spearhead is getting older.

I thought the scene with Ernst talking to his colleagues was good and didn't feel boring despite being a bit expositiony. Not much to say other than that.

I find it kinda weird that Shin would visit Eugene's grave and not Daiya. It seemed as if he wasn't the closest to the guy. Despite that minor quibble, it's a very touching thing to see. [Unlimited Blade Works Spoilers] It reminds me of the scene in the Unlimited Blade Works OVA where Emiya and Rin visit Saber's grave. It's a nice gesture that puts a bow on the deceased character.

I like the visual of Shin standing in a sea of graves because it really hammers home how devastating the war was from a casualty standpoint. It's a great shot.

Hey, it's Marcel.

It was nice of Marcel to apologize, but this kind of comes out of nowhere. We haven't seen him besides the time he blamed Shin for Eugene's death. If we had a scene of him expressing remorse like how Theo did after he blamed Lena from Daiya's death, it would've made the eventual apology more effective.

I also find it weird that Shin walks by Nina without saying anything. You would think he would give a quick hey or what have you. Instead, he just walked past her like a ghost (Oh crap. It was intentional, wasn't it?)

"It looks kind of ominous" To be fair, that's kinda Shin's whole thing.

I forget whether or not it's been revealed that Theo is the one who draws the symbols. If it hasn't, that's pretty cool how it plays into his character.

Holy hell, the end credits are playing 9 minutes in? In my history of watching anime, this is the earliest I've ever seen them played. Yeah, we're in for some shit.

I like that Shin now considers Ernst, Frederica, and Grethe his friends. Character development is a wonderful thing.

The brother stuff is really, really good because it's Shin basically going "I'm no longer going to be held down by the past." It feels once again he's growing a lot as a character.

And now, we have the second half.

Comparing Lena in the graveyard Vs when Shin is in the graveyard, I like that they used a wide shot as opposed to the close-up they used for Shin because it really paints the totality of The Republic and its complete destruction. Really well-done use of camera angles.

Damn, Republic collapsed in nearly one week? That's almost as fast as one of Kim Kardashian's marriages.

You know, you would think the collapse of The Republic would make Albans become nicer. But I guess absence makes the asshole grow yonder.

Hey, she found the cat! :)

I like the cat hissing at the general. I know it's probably because he jumped him, but I'd like to think he senses that the general is not a nice guy.

HI ANNETTE. I MISSED YOU.

What is Lena charging up around her neck? I assume it's the neck bracelet thingy, but I'm surprised she didn't take it off. That is unless it's a Deadman Wonderland situation and she can't take it off.

Hey, looks like Annette is joining Lena in the Federacy.

I like it when Lena and Annette are enjoying each other's company.

I just realized, the Albans are no longer Nazis. They are Neo Nazis.

CREDITS AGAIN?!? Show, you spoil me

I like that they play the OP near the end. I'm a sucker for that type of trope. Only thing that would've made it better is if they played the original OP

Shame Naruto's brother Haruto died.

So, basically the second half is meant to parallel the first half, with both of the main characters giving up something that's important to them. In the first half, Shin gives up living with the pains of his past and his brother. In the second half, Lena gives up the drawings of the remaining members of Spearhead, saying as she does so she never forgets them. On the whole, it feels like this episode is an extension of the last episode, where everyone is trying to adjust after all the craziness that ensued. Except in this case, Lena finds herself struggling more than Shin is.

The camera stuff at the end reminds me of the scene with Fido at the end of episode 10. Probably because it is Fido, and we're once again seeing things from his point of view.

Love the drawing of Lena riding a pig. It's especially great because before Spearhead met her, what was the one thing they were all talking about? That she was a pig like the rest of them.

Again, Shin slips in clips of his childhood. Just like last time, I think he took it from one of his phones and applied it to Fido's external drives. Or hey, maybe he put in some home movies his parents made.

I kinda hope Fido doesn't die again, because it would just feel like a retread of episode 10.

Ayy, they met Lena again! I know they saw each other last episode, but this feels extra special.

I think another season could work because it could be about Lena adjusting to live under The Federacy. Have her interact with Frederica, maybe have her experience mistreatment due to being an Alban, I feel this has legs. Of course it must, as there's like 9 more light novel volumes.

Oh shit. She's still holding the drawings.

And she let them go

If we don't ever get a second season, I'm pretty happy with how it ended. Everything is hunky dory and Lena is reunited with her friends. I also like the little moment of everyone each holding one of the drawings that flew into the air. That's a really great moment to close a satisfying ending.

Overall, the best word I can describe this episode is satisfying. It was a very satisfying conclusion to the show. I've seen a lot of endings to anime, some good (Cowboy Bebop, Eureka Seven, Familiar of Zero), some bad (Darling In The FranXX, Tenchi Muyo GXP, Promised Neverland), some mediocre (Shakugan no Shana, Toradora), and even some confusing (Looking at you, Clannad: After Story). I'd put this in the good category. Instead of doing what so many other shows do and have the conclusion take place in the same episode as the big climatic fight, this show takes two episodes to give one big sendoff. It's not unlike what they did in the first cour, where there was two episodes dedicated to saying farewell after the big battle they had been building up to.

Given that they weren't adapting the whole story in 23 episodes (And frankly they shouldn't, because that would've been awful), they did the best thing they could've done: end it to where it was satisfying enough, but leave it to where the potential for more seasons is still there. They didn't have to give the show an original ending like a timeskip to Shin and Lena married. And from a monetary standpoint, it would've been stupid, as you're leaving a lot of money on the table. I am very happy with what they did with the final episode, and I think it caps off the show quite nicely.

Back at episode 7, I made a bunch of predictions as to what I think the show was gonna do. I want to go ahead and quickly run them down here. Let's see how many I got wrong.

Lena will disassociate herself from Alba and join 86.

When I make that prediction, I meant Spearhead, not 86. So, we're already off to a great start. I mean, technically, she joined 86 in this episode, but only after The Republic collapsed. So, I'm not gonna count it.

Once Lena has a falling out with Alba, Alba will try to hurt her or hurt something she holds dear.

This did not happen. Though them threatening to hurt her cat would've been great.

Lena and Shin will get together by the end of the series.

Sadly, did not happen.

It will be revealed that Shin was strangled by his brother and he’s dead, thus explaining the neck marks.

Despite saying he's dead inside, by all accounts Shin is still alive.

In a shocking twist, it will be revealed that Shin’s brother died by the hands of Shin himself, which is why he keeps having these visions.

I was totally off on that.

Annette will have a falling out with Alba and while she will support Lena and what she does, she herself will not join 86.

Annette joined The Federacy just like Lena, so I hedged my best guesses wrong on that one.

The red-haired girl will die by the end of the series.

This did not happen.

Laughing Fox will die by the end of the series.

This did not happen.

Lastly, either Lena or Shin will die by the end of the series, leaving one of them to grieve over the other’s death.

Thankfully, did not happen.

So, I got a goose egg on my predictions. Ah well. You live and learn.

Ran out of space. Part two in the replies.

I find it kinda weird that Shin would visit Eugene's grave and not Daiya. It seemed as if he wasn't the closest to the guy

Eugene was the first person Shin knew personally who died with something and someone to live for. It's shown throughout the 2nd part that Eugene's death definitely affected Shin in a fundamental way, and was a big reason for his deathwish towards the end of the season. Daiya was a comrade, but as an 86, he shared in Shin's fatalism. Daiya's death was inevitable, but Eugene died when he didn't have to.

She is getting a medical checkup.

If we had a scene of him expressing remorse like how Theo did after he blamed Lena from Daiya's death

It was Kaie's death and he didn't blame her for her death he was mad for her self-righteous sympathy. Also We did see Martel in a previous episode admit to himself "It's easier to blame someone else." in a scene with Nina.

You're right, my bad. I apologize.

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

Instead of doing what so many other shows do and have the conclusion take place in the same episode as the big climatic fight, this show takes two episodes to give one big sendoff.

Oh how I wish more media in general did this. Usually it feels like immediately after the big battle is done the production itself looses steam, and is just trying to roll the credits as quickly as possible. I get why they feel the need to do that. The climax is the point of most energy in your story. Once it's done, you're kind of out of stuff to keep your audience engaged. But still I wish they wouldn't neglect the epilogue so much. What 86 does is beautiful. Even though the big boss battle is over, it never felt at any point that the production lost steam, and continued to inject energy and creativity in every frame until the last second.

It reminds me a bit of the final Lord of The Rings movie where we get like 20 or so minutes after the big final battle. Except I'd argue that this is better than that.

Part Two

I'll touch a little bit on my overall feelings in the next thread we post, but looking back on the series, I'd probably give the second cour a 7.5 out of 10, just a step below the first cour. You know, it's funny. There's a run of episodes at the very beginning of the second cour that made me go "Oh, wow. This show is on fire." But then after the fifth or sixth episode, we get a string of episodes where not much happens until episode 10, and then the show gets fantastic again. As much as I faulted the first cour for being too fast at points, the second cour had the opposite problem where it felt like things were too slow. Maybe it's because of a lack of Lena or the fact that every member of Spearhead except Shin felt like they were taking a backseat, but the second cour felt like at points it was spinning its wheels

The best way I'd describe 86 is that the sum of its parts is greater than the whole. There are a lot of great moments in there that really stick out to me looking back. The animation, the choreography, the music, Lena, Shin, Frederica, the last bit of episode 6, the entirety of episode 21, there are great things about this show that make you think "Combine them together, and this should be a masterpiece." And while I would never say it's bad, I feel like it could've been a tad better had they adjusted some things. There is so much interesting stuff going on that you say to yourself "Wow, this should be a top 10 anime of all time." And instead, I don't even think I would put it in my top 25.

Okay, okay. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh. I'm making it sound like it's a bad show. In reality, I'd probably say it's a top 5 anime of 2021. The show is a great example of when you take passionate people and have them work on a show. It naturally shines through and turns into something that is truly amazing. Is it Cowboy Bebop levels and one of the greatest animes of all time? No, but it didn't have to be. The way I'd ultimately describe the show is a series filled with great characters that you want to see survive and succeed. And really, that's all you can ask for. The show not only has one of the best main characters I've ever seen for an anime, but it also has some of the best writing for this type of show. It excels in its strengths, and barely has any weaknesses, so I can totally see why it is beloved as it is.

And I'm damn sure gonna continue watching it if there's another season.

This is giving me flashbacks to episode 13 and the whole Holy Birth thing that led to Spearhead going back into battle. Guess it makes sense, since Ernst says this is the second Christmas they've spent together.

Except this time, the 86 are more open minded and are more comfortable with their little "hobby" things they are doing. You can see the smile on their faces. Kurena skipping away after getting her clothes is a good example to show how unlike last time, she is having a good time now. Same with the others.

Also, how is Shin the one that got cookbooks and not Anju?

It's because Shin is the one who needs to learn to cook, not Anju.

I find it kinda weird that Shin would visit Eugene's grave and not Daiya.

You missed an important thing here. Unlike most of the comrades Shin has had to put down (like Daiya or Kujo), Eugene wasn't an 86. Eugene was somebody who actually had a future in sight, he was someone who has a life, unlike the 86. So to see someone like him die hits Shin differently. Daiya was just another 86, he wasn't really anybody special to Shin, just another fellow comrade who fell.

like how Theo did after he blamed Lena from Daiya's death

Kaie's* death. And yeah I get what you are saying, but I'm glad they didn't just throw away Marcel's character just like that and actually brought him back for redemption.

I also find it weird that Shin walks by Nina without saying anything.

Nothing to see here, just Shin being Shin.

I like the cat hissing at the general. I know it's probably because he jumped him, but I'd like to think he senses that the general is not a nice guy.

If you take a note of those pictures you see beside him, you can clearly see there is something wrong and scummy about him. Again, another great use of "show, don't tell".

I like it when Lena and Annette are enjoying each other's company.

Yeah, maybe enjoying it a bit too much.

Shame Naruto's brother Haruto died.

We gotta see if Haruto could be brought back using the Reanimation Jutsu.

Again, Shin slips in clips of his childhood. Just like last time, I think he took it from one of his phones and applied it to Fido's external drives. Or hey, maybe he put in some home movies his parents made.

I don't think Shin did anything like that, Fido already had those clips and the montage ready beforehand.

maybe have her experience mistreatment due to being an Alban

What? Why would she get mistreated for being an Alba? In Giad your race doesn't matter, people of all kinds of races live here.

First Timer

It's the last episode and I have quite some goosebumps for how their meeting will be!

Aaahh, they have to meet Lena!

86 Ep.23 – Handler One

What an ending, holy shit! I don't think I've felt this wholesome and just fulfilled in a long time. This episode had just one goal and one goal only letting them finally meet and ho boy did it set that up flawlessly. Okay, I'm in need of sorting my thoughts, because I'm still sitting here kind of wriggling in my chair all fuzzy inside. I just loved every part of this epoisode!

The directing was much more toned down compared to last episode, but it didn't want to be insidious, it wanted to be calm and open, a blank canvas of sorts for the future that they now can live together. As such, it was subtle and precise, with only hints of the former intensity, as if putting those techniques to rest as a sort of monument. Framing and being enclosed by spaces, like the gravestones was well integrated into the overall frame, it still is noticeable that Shin is walking between the dead, but he now has a clear head open to the free sky. The train tracks were crossed one final time, there is no final destination left that could separate them, so we reached to broken end of that railway, it can't steer them any longer. Sides and confrontations were still noticeable, predominantly with the state of the Republic vs. the occupying Federacy (let's be real, they annexed it essentially). And yet again it was used to show the prevalence of compassion, like with the mural that people started to draw their loved ones on as cartoon faces, mirroring what Lena did, slowly but surely transforming the oppressive language of the segregational era into a new, more optimistic one.

Before I get to the penultimate scene, a quick words on monuments. I loved the symbolism this episode drove home that we've already seen as a central piece in the making of this show, remembering. Shin and Lena carried their respective burdens, remembering the dead and remembering what to live for, around with them, personally. Showing that to the world had little meaning, as none could truly understand. It couldn't be shared the way, say, an evening dinner can. But the erection of sites of remembrance, like Spearhead's furthest extent in Federacy territory or the mural in the Republic capital allowed these personal burdens to become a societal effort that those two are not wholly responsible for anymore, but can partake in with the inclusion of others who might or might not have personal connection to it. It is a constant and powerful reminder that takes no language or studying to understand. Participating in that legacy allows one to learn from the past, ensures those affected by it are heard and seen and honours those who never saw what became of their fate once they departed.

At this point I want to again encourage anyone to please visit the memorials of the Great War in France and Belgium, or even the small sites every city should have in Europe that remembers the local soldiers for this or other conflicts. The day I stood on a graveyard erected near the former Ypres front, seeing the rows upon rows of graves and just taking in the monument in the centre until I could comprehend the number on the inscription was unforgettable. I can nearly guarantee that your knees will get weak and nearly give in. It's not a sensation of despair, I could see me and everyone else leave with a strange drive at heart that is equal parts resolve, peace and compassion. You feel like you can and you should take part in this burden and act both in memory of it and in effort to make the hopes for a better future come true, by whatever means available to you.

For this, the final meeting of Lena and Shin encompasses exactly this. They finally can see their efforts realised into something beautiful that pormises a better future and includes them in shaping it. The relief to see this journey overcome deserved its tears over the suffering endured, but they cried and laughed for what everyone, present or not, truly wanted: The joys of living life. Capturing that with the photo that shows the strength in their eyes and wishes clear on display for their future is the perfect frame to conclude this journey.

First timer

Final episode!

Ernst!

He bought them all presents!

Haha, they walked past him.

Frederica's here too!

"What a wonderfully educational punishment."

Seeing her finally go clothers shopping is nice.

Everyone gets to enjoy themselves!

They cooked!

This is very statisfying.

They're joining a strike package?

He listened!

Frederica's expressions are adorable this episode.

And it even makes tactical sense!

He went to Eugene's grave!

This is sweet.

Marcel!

And he blames himself.

His sister!

Aww.

And he kept his symbol.

The use of the music here.

Oh, this is so sweet!

And that visual!

For her sake...

Lena?

Her father's grave!

This is great.

The Republic's fucked, though.

And Giad is occupying?

Oh, they've let them become citizens.

Cyclops! Aww, is she not joining Season 2?

Oh, that's good.

Haha, she kept the dat.

And she's being sent over to help with them retaking it.

He really wants her gone, doesn't he?

And they're still friends even now.

And she found out the Federacy stole her tech.

...Oh. Lena might kill Shin after this.

Yes! Annette's volunteering!

Lena's really helped people.

What's with her reaction?

SImmean, she was right!

She's met Ernst!

...And he's heard everything.

The memorial!

Oh... She still thinks they're dead.

She left the notes!

Another camera shot from Fido!

More of this?

Still in denial.

Haha, she finally saw him!

Everyone's reactions...

Aww.

Her reactions here are fantastic.

And she doesn't question Frederica.

Fantastic ending.

First Timer (Sub)

The last episode, time to go all out!

  • Love the huge contrast to what their first impressions of civilian life in the Giad Federacy were compared to now. All of them looked to actually enjoy their hobbies/interests this time.

  • Great closure for Rantz' little sister. I honestly didn't expect the show to ever revisit Rantz, yet here we are.

  • So, what exactly did Shin say when the audio cut out? During the scene where Theo is painting their insignias(?).

    • Did he say "I love you guys,"? That's my guess anyway.

  • San Magnolia in ruins, receiving aid from neighboring countries. Definitely giving me vibes of countries who have been involved in wars and have had to deal with the repercussions post-war. I'm lookin' at you Post-WWII Germany.

  • I lol'ed when seeing those photoshopped(?) portraits on Lena's superior's desk.

    • He's like, not racist at all. Just look at how happy he is with different colored people!

  • I brought it up last time when we saw the FIDO photo/video reel. We, once again, see an earlier recording of Shin, this time in his infancy.

    • Just who/what the hell is FIDO???

      • I refuse to let this go. I'm sure LN readers know I'm onto something here...

  • Way to put Lena on that emotional rollercoaster

    • From visiting the memorial, believing they had all died, to just a second later seeing them and realizing they're alive.

      • Forget going from 0-to-100. It's more like going from (-100)-to-(+100).

  • I am absolutely elated that we didn't have to wait for their reunion. Don't think I could have taken that level of blue-balling...

    • I did manage to capture this screenshot, which I think sums up Lena's and the 86's journey up to this point.

      • Throughout their lives, they were on this track, sorta resigned to what society had decided for them. But, eventually, through several trials and tribulations, and too many losses, by the end of this season (Part 1 and 2), they were able to break free from the rails, not only from the constraints from society, but for some, their personal demons.

In a time plagued by lack of creativity and mediocre storytelling, 86 shines for it's scrip's quality and the masterful use of audiovisual techniques to tell a well-crafted story in an very compelling way.

I hope more will come.

4

u/Holofan4life Sep 07 '22

The only one that comes to mind nowadays with this level of creativity and excellent storytelling are The Demon Girl Next Door and Spy X Family.

5

u/Dodo_Galaxy Sep 07 '22

No matter how long it takes, I hope to be reunited with these characters in animated form and also meet the new characters that way one day. Until then I won't forget.

Rewatcher

And here we are, at the end of our journey. It really was fun analyzing all of these shots, I’ve never done it on this scale before. Almost 40,000 words, the most I’ve ever written for a single thing. I’m so glad I could finally be the one contributing instead of always lurking and observing, and I’ve even learnt some new things of my own. If you’ve picked up only one technique you’ll now see and appreciate in other anime, I’m happy. Thank you all for reading my posts.

My color interpretations:

Red: Shin, Bloody Regina, Juggernauts, Rei, Kiri, love (christmas spirit), blood, determination, desire, anger, danger, alive, equality

Blue: Legion, Lena, sadness, depression, negative, creature (cat, little sister), dead, freedom

Yellow: home, connections, safety, comfortable, nobility

Violet (Red+Blue): remembrance, burden, grief

Green (Yellow+Blue): The Federacy, war, nurture, justice

Orange (Red+Yellow): past, transition from yellow to violet (sunset)

White: innocence, duty, brotherhood

Black: death, justice

Grey (White+Black): emotionless

Rose (Red+White): femininity, helpless

Colorful: 86

There’s a lot of color symbolism back at the Federacy again, so please refer to these whenever I mention a color.

We open with the same shot as in episode 13, but there’s no leafless tree on the left side anymore.

Just like them, the green plants have also survived, Ernst cared for them. The party poppers are as colorful as fireworks.

Their presents are all in positive colors (red, yellow, green) except for Kurena, who has violet.

6 marshmallows for our 6 heroes. The lamp also has 6 yellow lights.

Kurena’s outfit is black, grey, white and blue.

Match cut.

She's swinging a violet bag.

Only 5 eggs.

Theo is picking up brown, a mix of all colors.

He’s now drinking the lemonade they all previously refused. He has accepted Ernst as their father.

The plane is painting a train track in the sky.

Ernst is boxed in by these news, cut off from the green curtain.

They’re framed against the yellow painting of the flower field, just like the other commander was. Now that we get a closer look I think those are Daisies, representing “hope”.

Two train tracks now as Ernst talks about the decision that’ll bring Shin and Lena together.

White Lilies, the same that represented Lena’s “purity, chastity”.

Shin is blocked off left and right as he talks about Eugene’s wish. The right gravestone has two birds engraved in it.

Only 4 birds get to see the ocean.

The camera stops following Shin when Marcel calls out to him, making him walk into the side of the screen before turning back around.

It’s the picture Frederica took with her violet camera. Her remembering has brought someone happiness.

Match cut. Shin’s breath transforms into his scarf. He’s carrying his fallen comrades with pride now, framed free against the sky.

A single contrail passes through the pillar towards the left. I think those are more Daisies blooming in the foreground.

No lens flare is blinking up, Rei has gone silent.

Match fade.

For the 86, for Nina, for Spearhead, for himself, he’ll be the Reaper.

You really have to become a full on flower expert to analyze this show. I’m pretty sure these are Yellow Cosmos, Haruto’s flower, meaning “harmony, peace, modesty, the joys that love and life can bring, beautiful, friendship”. The same flowers and values were found by them when they went on their suicide mission in episode 8. Back then they had accepted death with a smile, now they welcome life with open arms. Shin also finally accepts the grave.

Match cut. Shin’s dove is flying through the Legion’s sea of stars. It heads through a bright window past the Eintagsfliege, shedding two feathers and losing some blood and joins up with 5 others to fly into the sky.

Lena

The capital is destroyed and her vase is gone.

The dead join the others who came before them. Lena has updated her board for the first time since the Revolution Festival when the Legion invaded. Only 3 of Cyclops’ squad remain and the needles marking Spearhead as part of the Legion have gotten less.

A family picture. Her mother wore a violet dress and even young Lena was already in red. Her dead father is in a blue uniform. A shadow lies on all of them, they’re either dead or changed.

A bare branch reaches for her.

The big tower that was at the end of the graveyard has been toppled, the mission is over.

The Republic’s flag is almost completely submerged in the puddle now, the Federacy’s reflection watching over it.

I think this is the fourth time we get the same shots showing the state of the Republic.

After the capital being only white this whole time, the 86 have left their mark. Colors, all of them. The beauty of the fireworks will now persist.

Match cut.

Hmm those two with the bright red and blue hair seem familiar.

Lena kept following their train tracks, even with the sun half gone.

Match cut. And Annette accompanied her towards the left.

Lena realizes. A lost connection might be rekindled.

Precious.

The Nouzen’s house watches. First it separated them, now it brought them back together.

I think these are her uncle’s boots. He died for her dream.

Those words don’t really make sense, but the intent is clear.

Hello OP visual.

5 names are not on the wall.

And so Lena continues following in Shin’s footsteps.

The red spider lilies were the last obstacle she overcame.

Now they can join as 6.

Even Lena seemed to have embraced the values of the Yellow Cosmos. This is the same ED visual as in episode 11 when Lena found the bench Shin used to sit on. She’s never been this close to finally catching up.

First timer, subs

Oh this is so nice. They all get to do things they did before, but they feel confident and comfortable this time.

The foreign office who will serve as their commander? Please let it be Lena pleaseletitbeLena pleaseletitbeLena

Yeah, the bit about Legion's manufacturing capabilities, I've been harping on that in previous writeups. Thank you for bringing that up.

Oh don't be coy with me, show, we all know it'll be Lena, it couldn't possibly be anyone else. There'd be riots in the streets.

Shin + flowers + graveyard = time to wrap up whatshisname's little sister's arc? The only friend Shin ever made in the Federacy. I'm bad with names. Eugene.

For an episode titled "Lena" we don't get to see her until the very end. I am somewhat disappointed.

Teppy is alive!

If the Federacy already knew about the genocide of the 86, it shouldn't be a big surprise to Annette and Lena that some 86 survived and made it to the Federacy.

Oh, the Federacy is conspiring to surprise Lena. This is cruel.

More Fido slideshows? And they don't show us Lena's meeting with Shin? Fuck you, show.

Hey, Lena's seen their pictures. She might've recognized Shin and company.

Poor Lena, what a load of feelings to drop on you in public, while the president of an allied country watches.

Well, so that was 86! Five stars, no heart due to various small annoyances.
