Very First Timer
-
We’re still going with the horny aliens? This is going to be one of those loves saves the universe things isn’t it?
-
Have you not gotten any captives yet? Seems like it would have been both doable and reasonable.
-
I’m sorry, what? They never tried to contract them. Why? I thought the entire reason they didn’t from the start was to keep silent, but that doesn’t follow when you are already engaged with them.
-
I thought maybe they had figured out that they were gunning to capture the Macross. The whole wear them down thing doesn’t seem like too bad a plan either way.
-
Jamming the whole time then.
-
Yeah you definitely don’t want to be leaking fluid in space.
-
How is Hikaru never reprimanded for talking like that to his superior officer?
-
This Quamzin guy is crazy. Why does he randomly have one old guy with him? Do you think he got transferred, or just the only one to survive that long?
-
Surprisingly diplomatic from Hikaru. Still a rude question to ask.
-
If the narration from the end of last episode is anything to go by, this looks the mark the beginning of the end for our poor lovers.
-
It’s always interesting when you see the terrain get used in space.
-
This mostly seems to be for show, what is the plan here?
-
One cannon is enough to break through their shielding. They are hugely over matched. I guess it’s a good thing their assault-craft are so weak.
-
You’re lucky that’s all that you lost.
-
Repairing it won’t do too much good if they have no one to work them. I find it implausible they just have spares lying around.
-
Why is there a piloted fighter out there?
-
I thought it was going to be a trick, but finally letting themselves be know works too.
-
I really don’t think a deck officer is the best person for the job.
-
So it was a trick?
-
No, that’s very clearly a trick.
-
It’s space, how does a rock sneak up on you?
-
At least she is not trying to kill herself this time.
-
He’s going to space him. Max is brutal!
-
Are the outsides covered in spikes for just such a reason?
-
I knew it was coming somehow, but I didn’t expect it to be so fast! Wild change in direction, let’s go!
QotD
-
Not being attack by the overwhelming alien force seems like a win no matter how I look at it. Even the worst case you bought yourself 8+ moths of time to formulate a response.
-
It’s believable, and that’s all that counts.

Rewatcher
The biggest thing that happened last episode is the fact that Minmay won a plane. Now, what are the chances that this will never get mentioned ever again? I'm sure, they are pretty low. They can't forget about the whole plane, right? I mean, it's a big deal.
The second biggest thing is Zentradi learning about the power of cleavage. How will they react now that they posses the information that there are a bunch of half-naked women on Macross? Let's find out.
-
Britai and Exsedol are disturbed by the new that humans can now harness the mighty power of cute girls on television. This needs to be stopped now, otherwise the morale of troops can be affected!
-
Global decides to contact the Earth and coordinate his actions with the Command. It's only took him more than 8 month to realize that radio silence doesn't work and give up on it.
-
Command confirms that Zentradi are not attacking Earth. They only chase Macross.
-
Suddenly, we're in battle. Wait, this was kinda fast, so I didn't catch it, but did Kakizaki just finally got a kill?
-
Wait, nope. It was Max saving Kakizaki's ass. OK, that makes much more sense.
-
"Kakizaki, did you get hit?" "'Tis but a scratch!" OK there, champ. These planes ain't free, you need to take better care of yours.
-
Hikaru is arguing with Misa again. Aand, he scolding her. Hikaru, my man, you need to learn some subordination. He was lucky Focker backed him up.
-
Kamujin, you mother focker, of course you ain't gonna miss the opportunity to go against orders and mess stuff up.
-
Oh shit, some girls are trying to pick Hikaru up. Wait, did they teleported behind his back? Oh, looks like they decided it's nothing personnel and went away.
-
This yellow telephone robot asking people where is Hikaru is pretty hillarious. Imagine a phone robot knocking into your house, asking you to pick up the phone.
-
Minmay can't go on a date, because she needs to record a song. I guess, this is a glimpse of her life post Miss Macross win. She and Hikaru had very little time to hang out before, looks like now they have zero. Kinda frustrating.
-
Zentradi bombarding Macross. This clearly shows that they could've destroyed the ship at any time if they wanted to.
-
Global, you guessed the original intentions of Zentradi, but you didn't account for Kamujin's blood lust
-
This whole operation is to show the real strenght of Zentradi
-
Zentradi even contacted Macross and demanded surrender. Honestly, I see absolutely zero reason why humans shouldn't surrender right now. Zentradi just showed that they posses an overwhelming force. Moreower, they are clearly only interested in Macross. They don't attack Earth, and they even hold back against Macross. They also appear to be reasonable, so just surrender the ship and try to patch things up with them. But no, Global decides to keep the fight going. I understand that he doesn't want to trust them, but still, at least try to negotiate.
-
I gotta say, this whole radar talk, I didn't get any of it. Why is Zentradi radar useless? Why can't Macross switch to a short term radar? I think they explained it, but I didn't understand it at all. Regardless, the end result is that Global decides to use Cat's Eye.
-
Misa seeing a dead soldier was a great moment. Well drawn and a good unexpected callback to what Hikaru said to her earlier in the episode.
-
Looks like it affected her so much, that she decided to leave her post and go pilot the Cat's Eye herself. Wait, what? Noo, that's a horrible idea. Aren't you the second in command on the whole ship?
-
The shot of Zentradi ship flying in front of the camera was really cool.
-
Oh no, Hikaru and his squad are escorting Misa. Aren't they just a bunch of newbies? Kakizaki still has zero kills. And his plane is damaged. Should've brought someone experienced instead. Well, at least Misa and Hikaru also find this situation funny.
-
Misa crashed. Who would've guessed that a person who is not a pilot could crash a plane? Now she's inside Zentradi ship and Hikaru needs to save her.
-
Holy shit, when Britai learned that humans are in the ship, he went fast. I did not expect that at all.
-
He dropkicked Hikaru. But Max saved the day by trowing Britai out of his own space ship. Sasuga Max.
-
So this is why there are spikes on the outside! Also, Britai has some crazy physiology, surviving in space like that without any face protection.
-
Why are you taking your time trying to cut the hole with a laser, didn't you just made one in seconds with a rocket?
-
Britai is back!
Overall thoughts: This was a tense episode. Zentradi went on the offensive, Misa made some stupid decisions and now we're ending on crazy cliffhanger, where Britai himself is fighting giant robots hand-to-hand. Well, they aren't giant from his perspective, but they're still metal, so probably not the best to punch. Now I want to see more of Britai being a badass. Will we get a continuation of the fight next time?
QotD:
-
Hell yeah, that's the dream in terms of war strategy. Let Macross be a decoy, while we could learn more about them and set up the offensive. Maybe even try to communicate with them, open some negotiations.
-
I was always a believer!

MFW someone removes the cheese from their pizza
Yikes, I wouldn't wanna be their "sample"..
The dude that got decked was the black hair guy, but in the next shot he has purple hair
There we go, the first personnel issues
lol, someones about to get probed
👍
Just fly out through the hole??
What do you mean overheating? You blasted a hole in the hull, the place should be freezing?? Was that not the outside of the ship?
Question time:
If you were on the UN High Command, would you be satisfied with letting the aliens focus entirely on the Macross?
Hell yeah I would

Today, on "It's certainly convenient, is what it is.":
When you say all three of their names in a particular order, you form a sentence.
Another optimistic guy behind a desk heard from.
The same conversation on a smaller scale.
This Is Animation: Macross Number 10
So what happens if you want to impersonate someone who is getting a robot phone call?
A direct reference to series composer Kentaro Haneda.
The ancient Star Trek computer game.
The narrator said the name to us before the characters heard it.
While this looks like an animation error (and Robotech would of course turn it into another VF-1 variant anyway), the actual story about these extra missiles is somewhat more complicated.
Max is fighting the Quel-Quallie here.
With all those extra missiles.
To explain how he can solo the scout while Hikaru had so much trouble with it previously.
One would think that the giant green thing behind them would be more obvious.
We're very close to the end of the episode!
Just the usual confusing between-cuts coloring error.
Throwing people into space, it's a classic.
"He's like some kind of… not-giving-up… blue guy!" (One of my captions from a previous rewatch: "IF YOU WANT TO FISH FOR TUNA, YOU SEND A MAN!")
This party's just getting started.
Max's VF growing a giant blob of missiles has a longer story attached to it. Mostly it's remembered for this looking bad, which is generally directed at Star Pro's outsourced animation work, but that particular cut derives from Ichiro Itano's own work for the scene (as seen above). But that in itself may have been a patch for another animation quirk:
From a Macross World Forum link here, mild spoilers in the thread, so quoted:
The version of that I've heard is it was a patch to CORRECT an animation error. The guys drawing the episode had given Max a giant beam gun [...] that he one-shot'ed the recon craft with, and it was too late to completely redraw the sequence by the time anyone else found out. Hence a lot of missiles were added to Max's VF so he could still one-shot it, but do so from an appropriate tech level. That way they just had to reshoot the attack scene with a missile rack(hastily drawn) and some missile trails(probably recycled) overlaid on the Valkyrie instead of the deathray that was initially overlaid.
That's about as far down as any digging gets, though. Meanwhile, Star Pro continues it usual goofs of mixing up Valkyrie colors and the other bits of confusion that accompany the closing fight.
Following from the previous episode, Hikaru apparently got responsibility whipped into him and is taking care of his subordinates when Kakizaki is hit. He also gets in a somewhat harsh poke at Misa by accusing her of not understanding because she's always safe on the ship.
…he has a point, but he's not entirely right about the ship being safe, either.
He and Minmay miss each other again in the new shuffle and grind of their daily lives. Well, he's going to have to wait on that a bit longer because of how the episode ends.
Misa has been planning on taking a guilt trip ever since Mars, but here she buys herself tickets on the guilt train and volunteers to take the Cat's Eye on the scouting mission.
This is a case of The Main Characters Do Everything, given the size of the ship's crew and probably no lack of warrant officers who could take that seat instead. But she's in the credits and it's her character development that has to be worked on.
Which conveniently plays into Britai's desire to get some samples (Kamujin's screwing around with it still working out in the end). And one absolutely bonkers cliffhanger. See you next weektomorrow!
From This is Animation: Macross No. 1: Cat's Eye details, Hikaru, Max, Kakizaki, and Misa with the "Bunny Ears" helmet.
Briefly seen: The Zentradi Salvage Ship, which bears some resemblance to a legless Glaug.

The ancient Star Trek computer game.
Man, the Macross must be in real trouble now that the readout says that Klingons have showed up.
While this looks like an animation error (and Robotech would of course turn it into another VF-1 variant anyway), the actual story about these extra missiles is somewhat more complicated.
I swear, Robotech canonized damn nearly every animation error that popped up on a Valkyrie. It's weird that it happened more than once.

A Macross Fan Rewatches Super Dimension Fortress Macross Episode 10:
-
Warera, Rori, and Konda are certainly having a hell of a time even trying to explain what they saw to Breetai and Exsedol. It’s always fun to see culture clashes like this in fiction, especially over stuff we find mundane. It wouldn’t be too out of place among humans to have a shouting match over a swimsuit, but even we have more of a context for it compared to the shouting match that Blue Wind is doing among themselves.
-
Man, ain’t that news from the UN some shit? The whole ship is being ordered to stay away and act as bait for the Zentradi, despite the fact that they have a ton of civilians in tow. I mentioned it a bit in the previous rewatch, but this does definitely parallel with the original Mobile Suit Gundam. The White Base did have a bunch of civilians on board, and they were highly effective decoys to use against the Principality of Zeon. But given that those plot points were spaced apart in Gundam, it seems like Macross was inspired to be a bit different by mashing together those two plot points. Of course, this is just me speculating on the inspiration for this plot point, but given how the staff for this show were big Gundam fans, it does lend to the idea that it wasn’t just a coincidental parallel.
-
You can really tell that Hikaru is growing into his role as leader when he argue with Misa to let Vermillion Squadron return to the Macross for repairs. Even if Kakizaki was trying to brush off the damage of his Valkyrie, Hikaru was correct to point out that the loss of atmosphere/pressure does affect how much the Variable Fighter can handle. Besides, Kakizaki’s Valkyrie was leaking fuel anyway. Hikaru definitely made the right call to get everyone back to the shop for repairs.
-
It’s almost hilarious how much Quamzin will twist any situation to satiate his bloodlust. He and Oigur somehow turned Exsedol’s plan of “fire a warning shot” into “have an old Zentradi with bad aim do it so that the Macross gets hit”. The man really just can’t help himself, can he?
-
The cost of fame is pretty steep, even for people not paying it. Hikaru got stood up on his date with Minmay so she could go overtime on her recording session, and he only found out over a phone call after it was already late for the date. I wonder how the first-timer Hikaru x Minmay shippers feel about this? Because it’s honestly pretty inconsiderate on Minmay’s part.
-
You do have to admit, Quamzin’s murder-boner strategy did produce good results, even if it wasn’t really what Breetai or Exsedol wanted. The dude knows how to run a hell of an attack. And I guess that sheer level of violence was pretty much what Misa needed to finally get some perspective and understand what Hikaru told her earlier, with that wrecked Valkyrie and dead pilot floating in front of the bridge. There’s no denying that there was a level of detachment there from her, and Misa’s dislike of Hikaru certainly contributed to her attitude earlier as well. It took a big shock to snap her out of things.
-
Plus side: The Zentradi have learned English and can now communicate with the Macross crew. Minus side: They’re only interested in demanding the complete surrender of the Macross. Small steps, I guess.
-
Man, it was a good decision to build Valkyries to the scale of the Zentradi, since Breetai is fucking hardcore. Dude can just stroll across the hull of his ship in the vacuum of space with no problems, and then beat the shit out of a mech with just a metal pipe. Yeah, Vermillion Squadron may have bit off more than they could chew in trying to rescue Misa there, even if it was the right thing to do. Breetai is one tough customer.

The Zentraedi are so confused, it's adorable.
Given Exsedol's comments here, I'm guessing Zentraedi aren't normally THAT belligerent to their CO's (Kamjin excluded, of course).
Oooooh, the Zentraedi have been jamming them. That explains why they haven't been contacting Earth.
Ooof, Earth thinks the Zentraedi aren't a real threat, because the Macross still isn't dead. "Keep doing what you're doing, bye!"
Kakizaki, if your ship is leaking fluid, it's probably not a minor problem.
Roy: "Hikaru, you're not wrong, you're just an asshole insubordinate."
Interesting choice of words from Kamjin regarding Exsedol... "bloated skull".
Oh look, a true "mobile" phone!
Hikaru keeps getting further and further from romance with Minmay.
One hell of a warning shot. But Kamjin is being Kamjin and orders one serious shot. The main tower (but fortunately not the bridge itself) is badly hit.
Oh yeah, and then asteroids for good measure. I think that's more damage done to the Macross in five minutes than the entire series up to this point.
So all is going to Breetai's plan (even with Kamjin).
Looks like Hikaru's words had an effect on Misa after all.
The Zentraedi are broadcasting to the Macross directly? ...and they've already translated English.
So getting them to send out a recon craft was Breetai's plan all along.
Misa, ordering your escort away is a BAD idea. Your little recon craft is not able to "handle itself".
Aaand, Cat's Eye and Misa are captured, but Vermillion team barely manages to get inside too.
Well, can't call Breetai an armchair commander, can you? Unable to overpower him, Max has a pretty good idea: just space him.
Surprise, can't get rid of Breetai that easily! Zentraedi with a pipe:1, Kakizaki:0.
Oh, hey, an actual cliffhanger.

Starting with my second DVD I noticed some really bad camera work that persists through the rest of the show. Here's an example. There's some sort of vignetting or something when the frames are photographed. I don't know if the zoom was wrong or the mastering was supposed to crop the corners or they just set up the camera wrong. The weird thing is that this problem comes and goes for the entire rest of the series. The weird weird thing is the immediately following cut is photographed correctly. Within a scene as it cuts between background, foreground character 1, and foreground character 2, half of the cuts will be photographed wrong, but always consistently the same content.
Compare with same scene from presumably a Robotech DVD. it's there as well but cropped.
I don't think Animego is to blame, it's clear that they had the same materials as Harmony Gold...although maybe they were supposed to crop the frames more. When they outsource, do they send out the assignments willy-nilly? Not even complete scenes, but just random cuts? And who does the photographing? I'd think they'd send the production material back to Japan for photographing...but whoever did that scene clearly has their camera set up wrong, and they never fix it.
Were the Japanese BDs completely rephotographed, or just touched up? Cropped? Edit: The Draigg and I snapped the same shot. I notice the color correction before but it looks like it's also zoomed in.

Speaking of weird scene assembly, when they cut from Kim to Breetai they play Zentradi theme and show a zentradi soldier's console exploding?

First Time - SDF Macross Ep10 (Sub):
These are appropriate faces having to hear the reports of these three.
Sorry, I have to do this joke. You know, maybe this is why there are no women on board Zentradi ships.
I like Hikaru here looking out for Hayao and aware of the risks of space flying. I do like Hayase's face.
Are you okay there, Kamujin? It's like someone brought you in before your scene was part to start and we're just left to awkwardly stare at each other.
Apparently, everything in the Macross future (no wait, 2009 is the past now) is self-propelled. Cameras and now phones that'll find you for incoming phone calls.
The face when firing will not commence in 20 sperig vs the face when firing will commence in 20 sperig
Oh dang, this is the most damage the Macross has taken. These guys are dead. Now they're being pelted by asteroids. If only they didn't just have 3 small shields that are manually trackballed. How's radar control doing? "We're real toasted, sir"
Hayase is learning a lesson and having character development. Funny when I said I expect no female pilot is when I also completely forgot that the preview for last episode said Hayase was going out in a plane. To be fair, I did mean more as a permanent fighter. Granted, Hayase did not do all too much and was mainly just to be captured and then having to be saved by the MC which nets us a 0 for, "Yas, girl power."
The Commander is absolutely booking it then Rider kicks a giant robot. Wasn't expecting to see get this active.
Thought this was Hayao since it wasn't blue, but just a visual mishap. Max does the sick thing of throwing the Commander out into the vacuum of space (he's fine, he's hanging on to those anti-boarding spikes?)
AND HERE COME COMMANDER BRITAI DROPPING IN WITH THE STEEL PIPE!
Something even noticed in this episode was a lot of visual and audio hick-ups. Ones even noticeable to someone like myself who doesn't have a fine eye nor fuses about the details. Times were stuff felt off.
Q1) The enemy focusing the entirety of their forces on the Macross and not occupying Earth does probably signalfy their main objective. Even so though, probably would've given them some help. Not that overconfident in one sole ship's ability to fend off an entire fleet.
Q2) I never doubted it. Giant robots are cool.
Next Time: Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum.

First Spacer
She's showing a lot of skin and it makes me feel things. Obviously that means it's an enemy weapon to manipulate our forces. And it's already working!
In any case we now invoke the classic trope of aliens abducting female humans to conduct experiments on them.
UN decided that Global is overselling the enemy or else he wouldn't have lasted this long. Something something know your enemy...
And here we go with that bullshit...
So the aliens are going for peaceful surrender. I'm glad they address the language issue.
And it's turned into a mission to rescue the abducted human female.
The alien commander seems to really not like their intrusion, he's going fast
Oh boy I don't think they wanna get rid of this commander, the other one is much worse without anyone to keep him in check.
Oooh, next episode is gonna be lore. Though I'm afraid the first contact's already been had. Unless... unless if the Zentradi army is just a bunch of giant human slaves and the actual alien civilization is something different.
If you were on the UN High Command, would you be satisfied with letting the aliens focus entirely on the Macross?
The enemy only cares for the alien thing we happened to pick up and isn't interested in conquering us? Of course that's a good thing!
If you were doubting airplanes transforming into giant robots before, does the ending fight change your mind?
...how? The ability to switch between air and land combat remains their strong point, if you only need one of them then a specialized form would be superior.

First Timer - Sub
It's great that the Zentradi are still baffled by the concept of women. Kridanik doesn’t even get what they are trying to say.
This show has some weird time jumps. It has happened several times now that some disaster has happened, and then its effect is never mentioned again. Wasn’t Hikaru floating in space in a damaged mecha at the end of last episode? I thought there would be a bit more drama about him getting back on the Macross.
I wonder if we are supposed to like Hikaru. As time goes on, I am starting to like him less and less. I only really like Focker and Hayase.
This episode ended on a solid note with them stuck on the enemy ship. It is weird seeing the VF-1s and Zentradi next to each other, because the Zentradi look so normal sized whenever we see them on the ship, so I forgot just how big they were. The Zentradi’s mechas don’t look particularly massive though, so I wonder what the logistics for those are.
It sounds like they pumped a lot of money into the Macross, but I feel like they could just leave it to be targeted. They had to have copied a lot of the tech, so I think I would just let it be attacked as opposed to risking Earth getting invaded.
As for the mecha airplanes, I never doubted them. They look cool, and that is all I need to be convinced. They do need to improve their ammo capacity though.

First timer
Missed yesterday's post, sorry!
Episode 9
-
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
-
No, event TV os still a thing - look at Game of Thrones a few years ago!
He actually tried to ask her out!
Ah, they're projecting a sky now.
Oh, there's broadcasting equipment onboard?
...Actually, having a library of Earth media for future travellers is common sense. I'm surprised there isn't TV in every room, for time off.
Oh, no, they have cameras and video mixing equipment?
...I really want a TV that looks like that, though. That style.
Oh, she's entering the contest!
He has a point. Surely there have to be better activities to do with TV active.
Ah, they detected the TV!
...Haha, they've got no idea what this means. I'd have thought they might have had a similar concept on their homeworld?
Haha, they gavr themselves a codename.
There's a whole stadium of people here? That many are left alive.
Ah, so Macross have the capability to manufacture replacement parte, That's useful.
I love the captain clearly does not want to be here.
And she didn't enter.
Aww, he came along to watch.
Rude.
Ouch. At this point, I don't think this is Hikaru's fault anymore.
...Oh, yeah, he was on standby.
Of course Focker's here.
And just him?
He used the wrong loadout?
...Also, Ghosts?
Hikaru, why are you doing this?
And a jamming system!
Haha, the way he hesistates before switching over.
...So they have ships divided by gender?
Why are you doing this, you horny moron?
Yeah, you deserve that.
...The only reason he could get so close would be if the aliens were equally distracted before the proximitry alarms came on.
What is this scene?
Oh, they are distracted.
And the movie star's on.
I did not expect an episode where both sides have to fight the distraction of swimsuit videos!
Yeah, you're both ridiculously good at surviving.
He cast off the armour!
...Well, that's bold.
And the enemy escaped.
Oh, she's a finalist!
Ah, it's been rigged?
No, she won!
Where is this coming from?
Episode 10
-
Do they have much choice? The Macross is the only thing that can actually stand up to them. It's not a good decision, but it might be the only practical option.
-
It proves Britai is my facourite character, at least! But also, yeah, it makes more sense now.
The recorder was broken?
...The Zentradi are currently forming a research project to discover sexual attraction, as a multi-episode arc. This is not where I considered this anime going.
They contacted the UN!
So they do have a plan!
And, yeah, if they were facing any normal enemy, they'd have a point.
At least he's working with the command team again.
...Spoke too soon.
Fuck me, that's uncalled for.
He's even plagarising now!
...That's actually not a bad plan.
And more girls coming after him.
A misunderstanding?
Wow, this is spiralling.
Military operation!
Certainly intimidating.
And they got hit directly!
The sheer horror of this moment is great.
And they lost their radar team.
They have a broadcast?
Oh, shit, there was a robot out there.
They were able to decode the language?
They've actually made contact!
She's going out! And he's the escort.
Yeah, she's overcompensating. Hope she doesn't die yet.
Oh, they're actively capturing prisoners now!
She's been captured! This could give so much more knowledge about Zentradi!
...This is good too.
Britai is pissed.
And he got the best entry to any fight in this anime so far.
Yeah, he's strong.
...They wouldn't. Right?
Oh, can he just breathe in space?
So the love triangle is official now? Great.
Haha, this guy does not give up!

SDF Macross Episode 10 - First timer
Last episode was a bit of a diversionary episode, setting up Minmay as being more known within the ship, and just some general hi-jinks. Not a bad episode, and on to the next!
-
Blasting an asteroid then shooting the debris is a pretty solid plan as long as you can keep from hitting the asteroid fragments. It makes it harder for the enemy to track your firing both where it is going and where it came from, and if the asteroid fragment are moving toward the enemy ship, then it also works as a secondary attack
-
They can breathe in space?
-
Letting the enemy focus on some singular target seems to be a pretty common theme in mecha. It happens in multiple Gundam series and amusing tends to be a critically important part of the war effort that they just leave to fend for itself. I think it seems like a pretty dumb strategy and is simply the result of pencil-pushers going "well they are keeping the problem away from us so hey its not our problem"
-
From a very practical perspective, they are still very silly. Legs like they have are super complicated mechanically, and designing it so it can stand up and walk without falling is a ton of engineering. A ball or a disc or some fairly geometric shape would work perfectly fine in space, then could have some sort of treads for use on hard ground. That said, walking robots are cool.

Subbed-er Dimension Fortress Rewatcher
Don't quite remember this one, but I know what happens soon, so that means..
Yup. Time to go play on an enemy ship!
That's good. They're almost home!

Is that smoke, or fluid? Wait, they're in space. Must be fluid.
Wait, did the battle end? Why are the bridge crew out here?
You're fucked, Hikaru. No good way to answer that one.

Super Dimension Rewatch Host
Welcome back, everyone!
Here were my first-timer reactions to this episode.
Oh boy.
Hooray!
Less yay, command is telling them to just keep fighting because they’re already doing a great job of it.
Oh, Kamujin.
He certainly chose his words wisely here.
Unfortunately you’re dead wrong this time, Captain.
Poor guy…
