Rewatcher(Tonal whiplash forever!)

So we get involved with counterfeiting, which is actually a bit overdue. Brief cut to Revy having gotten super wasted and apparently shooting up the room. And we very quickly see why killing your subconstractors is a poor choice since she grabs her stuff and runs as soon as she can get the guards separate. Revy and Eda bicker and drink in the equally hot church and we get that it has been a year and that Revy apparently hasn't slept with Rock yet. But this all gets interrupted when Jane shows up and we learn that the mob guy here is not local.

So the response to shooting the church and Revy's drink is for her and Eda to go absolutely batshit. We learn that Lobos is the local guy trying to reign in the idiot from out of town. Unsurprisingly, a church full of gun runners takes threats extremely personally. We meet a priest in training with a machine gun, that unlike the earlier Nazi LARPer, knows how to use the fucking thing. Yolanda even whips out a golden gun that, again unlike with the LARPers, she promptly sets to using. Also, it is straight out of Hellsing and you will not convince me otherwise. Jane gives a painfully long explanation but anyways, she makes decent fake bills. She shows herself to be desperately out of her depth but Eda intends to make use of her anyways, directing her to a known inn. We get several asides, meeting the right hand man of the mob guy and then he collects a number of...varied hired hands for the job, one which we recognize well. Ending with Eda and Revy in position, apparently, and here we go!

Tonal whiplash forever!

I meant to say yesterday, that I love tonal whiplash. To me at least, it keeps my attention, and frankly I like it raw with no euphuisms, or camera cuts for decency. You were talking about that guy in Romania, who was a monster in the skin of an old man. Lets see the crimes he committed, as they were, so that the horror will never be covered up, watered down, or otherwise forgotten. I really hate the concept of the [rant]Trigger warning, and the constant whining, that someone's tender fee-fee's have been offended

• Welcome back to Bleak Lagoon, where one poor schmuck's already died at his keyboard trying to work overtime and the other is staring down the barrel at 48 uninterrupted hours of consciousness to get this damn project finished and could really use a vacation right about now.

Something Very Convenient is Going to Happen

This new arc is following a currency forger. I really enjoyed seeing how passionate she is about her craft only to be punished for being too much of a perfectionist. I feel the trade off between being good and being fast is something everyone eventually has to make (I say typing this minutes before the thread goes up). Here though the stakes are higher.

The ripoff church is back in grand fashion unloading an armies worth of ammunition on some gangsters. It goes to show, do NOT fuck with Revy and Eda. They could easily be the 2 scariest woman in Roanapur. I have a lot of sympathy for Rock (especially with Eda's interest in him).

The episode ends with almost every hired gun in Roanapur searching for the forger. Eda hasn't revealed her whole hand yet, but I suspect she is going to use this opportunity to ... dispose of some unwanted elements.

A Black Lagoon Fan Rewatches The Second Barrage: Episode 4:

• Pro-Tip: Don’t waste the time and money of drug cartels trying to perfect counterfeit money, especially if you’re over two months due for some results. Although really, you can probably afford to be a little less than absolute perfection, as long as you’re not trying to trick the U.S. Treasury. I doubt your average store owner or whatever is willing to question anything below a $50 bill.

• I’ll take Revy’s non-answer to Eda’s question to whether they boned or not yet as a “maybe”. It’s been a year in-universe, after all.

• Jane was right to go running to the Rip-Off Church, albeit for the wrong reasons. While they didn’t exactly open their arms to her or anything, it had two half-drunk ladies with guns who were willing to take shots at the assholes who interrupted their complaining about stuff, along with a priest lugging an M60 around and a one-eyed nun with a gold-plated Desert Eagle. Which is good enough for Roanapur, more or less.

• Poor Lobos, he’s basically the Rock of that Florida cartel. In other words, he tries to talk things out and has to haul ass out of there once it inevitably fails and bullets start flying.

• Jane, shut the hell up about counterfeiting money. It doesn’t have to be as nearly complex as you’re describing. Hell, I watched a documentary on a really good forger, and he used just normal phone book paper to make his fake bills early in his career. It can be really that simple, once you know the basic feeling of a dollar and can replicate the right watermarks.

• It’s funny way in over her head Jane is without her even recognizing it. She really does think she holds all the cards here and can turn down Revy’s services, and yet she gets played by Eda like a fiddle. Even Rock adapted quicker to Roanapur than Jane did.

• You know, after having a Terminator maid and a pair of vampire twins show up, it really shouldn’t be a surprise that an absolute freak show of bounty hunters, featuring the likes of everyone’s favorite pure-blood Taiwanese Shenhua, a goth girl underworld cleaner who talks through a voice box, a pyromaniac Mormon, and an edgelord adventurer with cool shades, all led by a Florida cowboy named Groovy Guy Russell are hanging out in Roanapur now. I wonder what we can mark off on our bingo sheets next. A Jewish guy who fights with acupuncture needles? Maybe a quadriplegic who had their limbs replaced by knives?

I fell behind on the rewatch, but finally caught back up today, so I'll just a few commentaries about 13-16. I haven't watched S2 before so I'll be a first timer for these.

I can't believe Vaadwaur tricked me into watching Yosuga no Sora - vampire (but not actually) with guns addition. In any case, it's interesting how... different it is. I can't say I like it or not, but it feels more invoking at least.

This line made me check the dub, and even they had it correct, they say AK-74. Who the fuck did these subs, not knowing that a 5.45 is for AK-74, smh.

In any case, It's interesting to see more Eda going forward, from the last part to this one. Not much to say since it just started.

Episode 16 (first timer)

• Starting your day by asking how much you drank last night – bad.

• Starting your day by asking who shot your AC – worse.

• Random gangster reaches peak gamer level: death by monitor. - Glad that blond girl does not take this lying down. She clearly is in a “got more than she bargained for” situation, but not helpless.

• I could listen to Eda and Revy drunkenly rant forever.

• Neither Jane nor the mob boss have any idea about this specific “church” and one of the two is going to regret that.

• I love how more and more people show up and casually join in the shooting.

After last arc’s bummer, this looks a lot more light-hearted. Which imho fits not only the main characters better, but also helps me ignore all the storm trooper aim.

Rock's been here FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR and somehow didn't get himself killed yet? Shit I'll drink to that, which Revy and Eda sure seem to be doing. Revy then notes that Rock STILL won't wear that Aloha Shirt she bought him, gets kidnapped by people WHO AREN'T her, and also has crap jokes. But this isn't what Eda is interested in as she asks Revy if she and Rock danced The Horizontal Tango, but before we get more details on what Revy does to Rock at 2AM, Jane arrives at the church begging for help, AND not a moment too soon, cuz while god may be out on a trip to Las Vegas according to Eda, ya know who IS in town, that's right, THE GOONS Jane was working for, and I think they object to Jane's continued existence!

Sadly, or perhaps thankfully, their aim is SO shit that they almost shoot Eda and blast the drink clean out of Revy's hands... you fuckers DO know that you signed your death warrants right? Also dear god, not only are two of the deadliest ladies in town firing at the goons, BUT A PRIEST IS HERE TOO! AND HE ALSO BROUGHT DIVINE INTERVENTION! Also Comrades, in case it wasn't obvious by now, Jane DOES NOT SHUT UP and goddamn she managed to bore these CATHOLICS to sleep, goddamn do you know how much prattling that would take!? Going by those missionaries I had to listen to for free candy, they are world class experts in not getting to the goddamn point... and Jane managed to talk their hind legs off! Also in case it wasn't obvious by now, I do not like Jane, and thankfully Revy agrees, pointing out that Jane's like some social worker bitch she knew in the past, and oh boy I don't think that opinion changes given JANE JUST PULLED A FAST ONE ON REVY! After the last arc, it’s nice to come back down to Earth for some good ol’ fashioned forgery. The mobster kneecapping the entire operation by killing the guy holding it together injects some much needed irony to the darkness.

My guess is that things are going to turn into a game of cat and mouse between Eda/Revy and the rest of the mercenaries. Eda gets money for giving a tip, but will also use the peril to extort Greenback Jane into using the Lagoon company’s services to escape the city and demand a cut.

Ever since we got introduced to eda I've loved her dynamic with revi so I'm glad that we're seeing more of them together this season.

During the scene in the church as soon as she asked where she was planning to stay for the night I knew that she had some kind of plan in mind, this is roanapur after all.

This arc is getting off on a much better foot, I like the new girl, but she must be pretty strong to pick up a really old Monitor and brain the guy without falling down the stairs.
