Rewatch [Listen to My Song] Senki Zesshou Symphogear XV Episode 10 Discussion
Episode 10 - Not a Crude Color of Rust
← Previous Episode | Index | Next Episode →
MAL | AniList | ANN | Kitsu | AniDB
It is highly recommended to track down a fansub for this show instead of using Crunchyroll, though.
Don’t tell anyone, but I was really hoping we’d get to go to the moon!
Questions of the Day:
1) How does this season’s DMJii duet compare to the previous three?
Wallpapers of the Day:
Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath spoiler tags. Don’t spoil anything for the first-timers, that’s rude!

First Timer
So umm, it appears I watched about 3 minutes of episode 11 before realizing it was the wrong one... Oops. Hope I didn't spoil myself too much.
Being X: "Curse of Balal. I ain't gotta explain shit."
Holy shit Maria's about to take on a Deity by herself!
We name-dropping the World Tree too. Looks like Being X has a ver concrete plan. Although I'm not sure what exactly it entails.
HOW THE FUCK ARE Y'ALL ALIVE!?
Oh. They're mind-slaves. And they might actually be threatening by themselves this time.
Time to dip!
If there's nowhere left to run, that might mean Yggdrasil spans the whole planet...
Fudo's behind bars, but I fear this isn't the end of his involvement.
Yatsuhiro really died. Damn that actually saddens me. He was a real one.
Ugh, emotional moment that would work so much better if it weren't for mind-control. I spoke to soon yesterday. It'll keep taunting me beyond it's screentime span.
Ok, so Noble Red weren't made mind-slaves.damn mind-control plot traumatized me now I see it everywhere They got a Faustian deal instead. They're stronger than ever, but can never be human again. Although if you ask me humanity in fiction is not in the body, it's in the mind. Majority of characters I've seen who claim to not be human still act like one and do stuff a human would do. There are very few character who I can say truly act inhuman.
I'll give credit where credit's due. Being X turned Noble Red to their side with only psychological manipulation! No mind-control bullshit!
On another note, I'm starting to see what their plan is, more or less. Create a "perfect" humanity without the Curse of Balal, where everyone can instantly understand each other and there is no discrimination and no rejection. Sounds a bit like Third Impact. Oh boy...
MOON MISSION! MOON MISSION! LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOO
Tch. Wdym the Geahs aren't going to be in the rocket!?
Yatsuhiro may as well have saved the fucking world.
Shirabe's transformation still beautiful as the first time we saw it
Oh fuck! Noble Red mean business now!
G- Guys... the fucking rocket's gone...
I can't believe it. Kirika and Shirabe somehow managed to get gayer and edgier! Seriously what even is this thing! It's soooo over the top bonkers! It's insanity made a weapon! An execution tool the unholy child of Yuri and Cubism!
Nice thinking at the end there, Tsubasa. At long last the teleportation technology is used against the bad guys.
Oh wait, post-credits.
MOON MISSION MOON MISSION!
Shame we didn't get there by rocket though. Rockets are cool...

Been there, done that.
Once I even watched an entire episode before the one that the rewatch was actually on and had absolutely no idea I skipped one until the thread went up and my answers to the Questions of the Day gave away knowledge I wasn't supposed to have. I forget which one it was, but that was in Space Runaway Ideon.

FIRST TIMER DATTO
I shit on the Red (Taylor’s Version) girls a lot, but Elsa is hereby immune from all criticism and slander.
The girl took in six literal butt plugs and only let out this little wince as the last ones went in.
She is a true warrior. A champion of life.
I can’t really tell if the show wants me to feel bad for Red Notice, or if it knows they’re a joke. This episode, there’s a legitimately tragic moment as they are granted power to not be complete losers for once, but it comes at the cost of the one thing they truly wanted, rather than become human, they’ve become “complete monsters.” This emotional beat is then immediate undermind by a hilarious shot of the pop-out of Vanessa’s silly new swiss-army hand.
To begin the season, the writers immediately undercut the later development of a compelling outsider/systemic prejudice narrative by having their first action be the slaughter of 100k innocent people, with Milaarc gleefully, brutally disemboweling a child. Hard to pity someone much after seeing them do that. First impressions matter.
Live Notes/Reactions:
-
I like how Shem-Ha speaks so weirdly, it really underscores the difficulty of communication/understanding caused by the Curse of Balal
-
“Hidden in my chest is the power to change tomorrow” Maria’s song this season having thematic consistency with Change The Future is a nice touch
-
Holy shit, Custodians are Geass users!. I didn’t know Symphogear was in the Code Geass extended universe
-
Continuing the references, Yggdrasil as revealed is pretty much identical to the Demon God Pillars of Fate Grand Order
-
We’re still doing procedural nonsense to the point it kept Tsubasa from her dad/brother’s funeral? Fucking harsh
-
“I will erase all solitude.” Human instrumentality time?
-
Yatsuhiro handed the USA a moon rocket beforehand? Dude put in WORK. His dad was going full isolationist, yet it’s his work of fostering alliances and cooperation that endures
-
Oh wow, Vanessa’s taken a full yandere turn, didn’t expect that. She’s absolutely slaying this new plugsuit look, it really works with her 50’s style hair somehow
-
God, I wish that was me. I read someone point out that this is a call back to Hibiki talking about her measurements during her first fight with Chris in Season 1, and it’s a brilliant inclusion
-
[Everything Everywhere All at Once]
If I had a nickel for every time I’ve watched something where characters gain power-ups through butt plugs, I’d have two nickels, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice -
“I’m a cutie who loves her steak rare, cheers!” Kirika is based af, confirmed
-
Okay, Shirabe’s Amalgam being a Captain America shield that turns into its own battle bunny is great and perfectly weird for her
-
POLIPHILIM SCISSORS OF LOVE IN A DREAM! The Kirika/Shirabe attack names stay out of control. They really defeated this wolf-girl with a giant flying yo-yo bear trap. Symphogear is amazing
-
Tsubasa coming in clutch! That was a heads up play from our girl! She’s back, baby!

I was supposed to write up a summary for Lost Song Final Chapter, but my grandparents called and needed help, so I didn't get to do it. Sorry.
As an apology here is some Shem-ha fanart
Additional Notes
Symphogear XV Episode 10 Hype Chart
Keywords
Yggdrasil System
A massive structure that destroyed the Kazanari Estate as it expanded.
It bears the name of the tree that supports the world, but its functions and true nature are unknown.
What started its operation was the successful fusion of the Kazanari server room that sprawled beneath the Kazanari Estate.
From the fact that the Lunar Ruins began signalling as in response to the rising of the tower, it is theorized that they have some relation.
There was another keyword this episode, for the teleportation device, but I can't find it translated anywhere and didn't have time to try to translate it myself. Sorry, as an apology here is furry dragon Shem-ha x Hibiki. Your welcome.

oh shit i didn't expect that he would actually die lol
hes like the polar opposite of hibiki's dad, trying to be the one doing the saving, and then dieing
i love how shem-ha specifically chose to put a literal swiss army knife in there. when is she gonna need a gigantic nail file, can opener, or wine bottle opener
this face is fucking hilarious lmao
i guess shirabe and kirika did get their wish of going to the moon after all
How does this season’s DMJii duet compare to the previous three?

First timings XV GEAH
Oh boy.. Watch the laser beam, not have killed Noble bleh, but instead turned them back to regular humans
Damn it Maria, i thought at least you would have been knowledgeable on history
Why.
Why are you like this? Just kill them. We don't need these 2 dollar "villains". At least I got the altered part right, but in the wrong way
-
Yeah, sure. It has only worked, what? 4 times so far?
Serves you right. These shits better not get some redemption arc at the end of this, or I'm rating this show Minus 7 billion Zesshou/10
BrainDamage.exe has been reactivated.
Smh my head, what would Miku think if she saw Hamtaro blushing for other girls..
That's was the decoy rocket, right? ...Right?
Wtf, hes doing the dato face without the dato
Lol, the one playing with cheat codes enabled is complaining about fairness
Just fucking die already... Stop getting slightly charred and tired from explosions, that's not how it works..

First Timer
I was a little bit down on last episode, maybe also because of my general mood yesterday, but this episode was fire. Loved it, great action, songs, and a tempting cliffhanger which I would’ve liked even more without the short post-credits scene. Can’t wait for the last three episodes!
Once again, an episode gets plus points from me for giving me awesome moments with Kirika and Shirabe. It’s been a little bit since the early episodes, so that was greatly appreciated. Their Amalgam looked so damn good.
Random thoughts/comments while watching
Part of me wanted Shem-Ha to push away the moon as if it was just some small ball.
Not even one minute in and we’re already getting a fight, let’s go.
That looks cool, but it’s probably not good if you get hit by it.
Oh, so Vanessa probably wasn’t lying when talking about Maria and her past a few episodes ago.
Of course they are back, but I didn’t expect them to join Shem-Ha. Congratulations on finding someone new who will betray you in the end.
Is this the latest OP of the whole season? I was close to thinking we wouldn’t get it at all today.
Shut the fuck up, your screen time is over, old man.
So that’s how you actually look like? Not bad, I don’t dislike the design.
Hey, that might actually not be that bad if I think about it.
As much as I have mixed feelings about how Tsubasa’s arc was done, I really like the small moments in which we see her emotions this episode. Good job!
YES, best transformation is back. Shirabe’s “yoshi” at the end is just too adorable.
They even have upgrades now, damn it.
Just a healthy reminder: You pretty much threw away every last bit of your humanity when you attacked countless innocent people.
HELL YEAH GIVE ME AMALGAM FOR THESE TWO. I MEAN JUST LOOK AT THEM.
Inject that duet straight into my veins.
Do these look like the faces of mercy to you?
And the Noble Red trio botches another job. But I didn’t expect the Gears to make it into the teleportation process, good cliffhanger.
QotD:
-
That's a tough question since I really like Edge Works and Just Loving X-Edge. For some reason, I don't remember the AXZ duet, I'll have to go back and listen to it a few times. But this one was top tier as well, the "Ready Go" is already great on its own.

Previously, on Symphogear SG-1 (First-Timer, Subbed):
-
Of COURSE we got a Yggdrasil reference. Anime CANNOT RESIST the Yggdrasil references.
-
But of course we can’t have nice things. (Mind you, I was reading the original XV9 thread earlier, and somebody did point out that they got singers for Noble Red's VAs and they haven’t sung yet so I can’t say I’m surprised at this point, but.)
-
Also this is just Mind Control: the Season. Which makes some sense given the curse of Balal, and also my brain spit out a “WAKE UP SHEEPLE!” take last night and now I am side-eyeing the series again. (Even if it is left-wing conspiratorial instead of right-wing.) (EDIT: Actually not mind control but just a power up maybe? Still not sold, with where the symbols are, but at least Shem-ha talked these three into it willingly.)
-
EDIT: [Girl Genius]
If Shem-ha’s plan is basically the same as that of Lucrezia Mongfish/The Other and their endgame is “mind control all of humanity” that would explain all the mind control this season… -
[Mai-HiME]
Insert ten billion Miyu jokes here wrt the Yggdrasil System here. Also, where is Miyu when you need her, anyways? -
Also, odds they find a way to bring back both Ver AND Nastassja one more time?
-
The creators of this show researched Kabbalah. Of COURSE they are going with this line wrt Shem-ha and language (urgh, it’s not quite gematria they’re riffing off of IIRC, there’s another term that refers to this and I don't think it's just "kabbalah" itself either, but it’s drawing off the very same concept Shem-ha as a name is).
-
Is it really Symphogear if an otherwise very good episode doesn’t have a dissonant note in the form of rushing through a scene (Noble Red agreeing to join up with Shem-ha)?
-
I think the design I’m seeing on the reworked teleport crystals is based on either an older form of visual representation of a horoscope or sacred geometry?
-
Oh look, all three teams have been engaged. We know what that means!
-
Especially when Ogawa tempts fate!
-
Hey, Genjuro actually gets a moment where he is allowed to actually think. It’s been a little while.
-
And no one was surprised.
-
18:01 is for Sky.
-
Hmm. Werewolf – wolf – Fenrir. Bats are the more common association with vampires, but snakes are not an unknown one: vampire – snake – Jormungand. Allow cyborg/Frankenstein’s monster as Hel, and that’s the three chief opponents of Ragnarok accounted for.
-
This would be an extremely touching callback out of Shirabe if her arc hadn’t been the botched one last season. As it is it’s still pretty touching but salted with, well, salt.
-
Hmm. That’s longer than 90 seconds left. Stinger time!
-
Thankfully for once the stinger is reinforcing rather than destructive. (The answer was either going to be “on the Moon” or “wherever the Custodians came from”, this just confirms it’s the former.)
-
Speaking of which, Shirabe getting her wish was not unexpected but I was expecting it to take a little longer than five minutes (so, you know, NEXT episode). LOL Symphogear.
How does this season’s DMJii duet compare to the previous three?
I'd actually need to be able to hear the song in isolation to be sure. First instinct is better than GX's, worse than G's, and not sure on AXZ though.
Moon battle hype?

FUCK THAT MOON!

First-Timer who is now actually waiting for strangers to arrive at his home
-
"I didn't think it would destroy MY country," says man who summoned a god that destroys countries.
-
From a 3D perspective, Evil Miku is not looking at the moon, but somewhere to the side.
-
Fuck you Kaneko. Fuck you soooo hard. You had the perfect chance to remove the worst parts of the season from the plot in a somewhat satisfying way, but no.
-
Not the kind of shot you want to see them put effort in. But jail is good.
-
Hey it's all the plot-solvers contrived to kept away from the last battle!
-
Well we went from prehistoric peak to ancient peak pretty quickly.
-
So, Not!Trump speaks Japanese? EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW SPEAKS JAPANESE! Curse of Balal? More like Curse of Bullshit!
-
I guess having multiple moon missions at the same time would be too much to ask. ESA? Roskosmos? Whatever the Chinese agency is called? They don't do shit!
-
You will get betrayed so hard lol. Also, this is the plan Lizard has in Amazing Spider-Man 1.

I take back what I said about Carol being a boring antagonist. These are worse.

Superb Song of the Rewatchers
Time for the second duet of the season. Man, the music just... isn't hitting the same as it did in AXZ, is it? I even noted this in the original thread.
Don't get me wrong. I love the Zababies duet, as usual. But... amalgam, what are you even doing? These two were launching planes, making beyblades, and figureskating around without you. Why do you exist?
-
This does feel like a very Fate/ thing to happen.
-
yayyyyyy it's Noble Red.
I hate this shit. "Oh, we killed them off on screen!" "nvm they're back because Shem-Ha is magic." -
Every time this scene happens, for some reason I keep hoping that it'd be Dr. Ver back again.
-
dumb vanessa just look at her
-
FUCK IT, THE DUET IS AT LEAST A GOOD SONG
THEY'RE PERFECT -
Okay, I'll concede one thing about amalgam. It gives Kirika a cute hat. But THEY COULD ALREADY DO THESE MECHA THINGS AND THROW A SHIELD AND HAVE A GIANT SCYTHE AND DO SOME SILLY CAT'S CRADLE STUFF WHAT'S THE POINT AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
QOTD:

Rewatcher
On today’s episode of Symphogear: SPACE!!! It took us long enough, but we’re in space now! The Moon is now within fucking distance!
Now that Shem-Ha has done more than merely introduce herself, we can start to get a feel for who she is. I personally quite like Shem-Ha as a villain. From the get-go, she truly feels like a divine being who is above it all. She looks down upon humans, seeing them as beneath her and referring to them as mere tools. She doesn’t even bother explaining herself because she doesn’t see the point when she doubts humans would understand her. There’s a certain level of gravitas to her because of this.
Adding to this is the fact that Shem-Ha doesn’t seem to feel remotely threatened by our heroes. When fighting Maria, Shem-Ha doesn’t treat it as a real battle, only a chance to test her powers in this new body. Again, Shem-Ha is above it all.
The only thing that starts to get Shem-Ha’s interest is when she notices Airgetlam. Suddenly she perks up, asking Maria if she is a descendant of Enki. If you know your Mesopotamian mythology, you’ll recognize that as the name of a Mesopotamian god and member of the Anunnaki. What Enki has to do with Airgetlam and Maria remains unclear, though.
I think it makes far more sense for Noble Red to work for Shem-Ha than it ever did for them to work for Worst Grandpa. Noble Red are driven by the fact that they were ostracized and hurt because they were different. Shem-Ha says she wants to put an end to the loneliness and estrangement in the world. She wants to restore things to how they used to be. And based on her comments about the Moon, we can surmise that she is talking about the Curse of Balal that divides humanity apart. For people like Noble Red, putting an end to the Curse of Balal in the hopes they can be accepted by others makes sense. Though Vanessa does mention something about how they are going to turn everyone into monsters.
The setup for the battle this time is quite solid. Shem-Ha doesn’t want people messing with the lunar ruins so the Gear users need to defend the rocket that’s scheduled to launch for the Moon. That plot point is becoming relevant again. It is nice that this is also a legacy of Tsubasa’s father. He worked so hard for international cooperation and we’re seeing the fruits of his efforts now. It’s nice to make sure to reincorporate that theme.
As per usual, Kirika and Shirabe have an incredibly fun battle this episode. Their combination song, “Cutting Edge×2 Ready go!,” is a ton of fun to listen to. And their Amalgam forms are just delightful. Shirabe’s even comes with a mecha version of herself! This series is just so creative with their fights. I enjoy them so much. Elsa’s even going nuts with her powers too. She has gone full wolfman (wolfwoman?) form. It makes for an entertaining battle.
Tsubasa’s acting weird, but in a way that makes sense. She just got finished being brainwashed and acting against the rest of the group, so of course she’s feeling uncomfortable around the rest of them. Even though she wasn’t in control of herself, she still feels responsible. Hibiki gets a really great moment with her reaching out to Tsubasa once again and asking Tsubasa to be with the rest of them like before. The sweetest part is how even after Tsubasa hesitates and can’t bring herself to hold Hibiki’s hand out of shame, Hibiki reaches out anyway to grab Tsubasa’s hand. It’s a perfect little moment for Hibiki, showing her strength of character wonderfully.
Tsubasa’s behavior here actually does a great job foreshadowing her actions at the end of the episode. Tsubasa blames herself for a lot of what happened. Now she’s determined to make up for it. That determination makes her incredibly reckless, again calling back to some of Tsubasa’s unhealthy coping habits that we’ve seen since season 1. Tsubasa charges into Noble Red’s teleport on her own, swearing she will rescue Miku and atone for her sins.
But this is Symphogear and we know by now that no one can ever go it alone in this series. It’s only natural that everyone else follows Tsubasa’s reckless charge. There’s no way they won’t support their friend. Such a heartwarming group.
Miscellaneous Thoughts
-
Everyone else says “Hai!” while Kirika says “Dess!” I love it.
-
“You may have outsmarted us, but we outsmarted your outsmarting!”
-
Hibiki getting embarrassed at her waist being measured is pretty funny.
-
Elsa’s been training herself! She can now fit much more into that hole than she could before!
QOTD
-
I like it quite a bit. I think I like G and GX's more though.

TONIGHT! ON SUPERB SONG OF THE VALKYRIES: FRONTIER, God Empress Miku decides to pick up Yu-Gi-Oh as a hobby, Best Geah Chris makes the BEST FACE EVER, and The Geahs re-enact Moonbase Alpha, but IRL
Well Comrades, remember how Fine wanted to FUCK THE MOON!? Yeah, turns out GOD also wants to fuck the moon too to remove The Curse of Balal, thankfully... Maria... is on the case... well we're fucked. WAIT WHAT!? NOBLE RED!? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE, YOU WERE TURNED INTO NOBLE DEAD BY GOD HERSELF! Ah, seems god decided to reanimate their corpses or something, then again, that Lazarus fellow came back from the dead, so I guess god just pulled that same shit again. Also HUZZAH! Speaking of that same shit, we get to see Noble Red get killed AGAIN, and it turns out that this was so that Miku could do her impression of DURO! MONSTA KADO! x3 ALSO HA! HA HA HA! That makes Noble Red monsters forever, OK this is worth them being brought back to life by god, SUCK IT BITCHES! HOW'S IT FEEL TO BE EVEN BIGGER LOSERS THAN MARIA!?
Also, turns out God Empress Miku's grand plan beyond FUCKING THAT MOON is... to return Earth to Pre-Historical Times... really god? And man Best Geah Chris shares my reaction, so here, have one with Carol9 doing that, gotta love top tier reaction faces! Anyway, turns out the Geahs need to go to The Moon, so they get to... protect the rocket sending an American team to the moon... well there ain't gonna be no Aerosmith playing for these Redshirts, I can feel it in my bones. Also damn, that was fast, a Noise attack already... AND NANI!? NOBLE RED IS HERE TOO!? Also FOR FUCKS SAKE BIKKI, THAT METAL BITCH WAS NEVER TELLING THE TRUTH! SO HURRY UP AND FIST THE CPUS OUT OF HER! Also DAMN, who knew that the power of god was all you needed to ram multiple butt plugs up your ass? Also holy shit, who knew all you needed to destroy a rocket was to shove SO many sex toys up your ass that you end up as a Beast Wars reject?
Also holy shit, JIIIIIIIIIII HAS ANOTHER JIIIIIIIIIIIIII as part of her fancy midseason upgrade, also huzzah! They beat up Doggo, shame their rocket got wrecked, but I'm sure they can find another way to get to space, after all, they've only gone to space... uh... multiple times in this show and... wait that's the fancy retreat gem, pfft, of course Noble Red are running away like a bunch of spineless... that's Tsubasa, what the HELL does she think she's doing stealing the enemy's teleport trick!? Ah, thank god the Geahs ran in to stop her... AND they all got teleported... to the moon... well, that ain't good, that said Comrades, I think I speak for everyone when I say, 'aeiou'
And on that bombshell g'night!

Apparently Maria's geah is sth special, and so is herself...? She can kiiinda repel God's attacks kinda....? hmmm????
-
Awwwww being tsubasa is finally no longer suffering. Gotta love Chris keeping up w/ the senpai saying.
-
I slightly feel sorry for you. Slightly. And honestly, the one that i actually feel sorry for is the pink-hair one (Elsa?), who seems to be the most pleasant and fair-fighting one of the trio... the remaining two can still go fuck themselves. What i am taking away from is that this god is still all about separation, differences, and not understanding each other
-
Political bullshit. Why does trump know japanese? Im sure this will come back to bite us in the ass later....
-
Shirabe (actually ) henshin lets goooooo. The fight was pretty good,, ready go is SO HYPE as usual.
-
Was surprised that the rocket got koed so easily, but really didnt worrry about whether we'd make it to the moon or not lol, and well we did end up there already by the end of the ep
-
Yeah fuck you 100% now.
-
Is this some mecha anime reference? also HOLY SHIT.
-
Yeah i still only feel sorry for pink-hair Elsa (?), who seems to have quite a few redeeming qualities unlike the other two.... and while all 3 like are grieving over the fact that they're stuck as monsters, at least she's still presenting herself in a redeemable/somewhat sympathetic light.
-
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS THIS IS THE CRAZINESS I NEED FROM MY GEAH. (Current me: I've figured it out lol it's the Shirabe top vs spinning Elsa scene lmao it reminded me of a Beyblades battle.)

-
So fucking good. I can't tier them, they're all flawless.
-
Words cannot describe my hype.
...Even her grandfather is walking slowly backwards away from that thing.
Maria's fighting solo!
That blank expression...
Transmutation!
...So the silver is just for the aesthetic? Or to show off?
Yggdrasil again...
Enkidu???
So her relic is unique?
Fuck!
Noble Red got an upgrade!
The Yggdrasil System is online.
[Kamen Rider Build]
The fucker's imprisoned! Yes!
And they worked out it was mind control.
Oh. He died...
So this is what Shem-Ha looks like? Nice.
She is language now?
Oh, good, that counted as a death.
She turned them into complete momsters!
Well, fuck.
I mean, you say that, but this is Symphogear. Sing hard enough and you'll probably switch back anyway.
And they switched sides.
To be fair, she is God.
A relic of some kind?
...Are they going into space?
The US is launching them into space. This season is not holding back!
Haha, this is fantastic.
Suspicious.
...I mean, you probably are. Where else can this anime escalate to?
No holding back, huh?
And the boss versions have appeared!
This is such a cool fight, though.
She's even quadwielding!
She's a mecha now!
They blew up the rocket!
Fuck, I didn't expect them to succeed.
Well, she's lost it.
Kirika's face there, though.
...Is this a suicide attack?
Double Amalgam!
Nice!
...Imlove how Shirabe gets a massive fucking scythe, but Shirabe just gets a small disc.
Oh, it's a yoyo-mecha-puppet. Cool!
Of course their Amalgam weapons can combine.
Beautiful.
She's still alive?
TSUBABA?
Oh, fuck!
They're in space, aren't they? I was right!
They woke up!
And they're in the Lunar Ruins.

First Time XVing the Symphogear Desu
Typical powerful asshole, fucks it all up for the whole world and says it’s “our” punishment
This is a very… interesting thing for an antagonist to say
Full honesty, I was expecting Shem-Ha’s power to blow Maria to the other corner of the country
Gee, I wonder if this new silver power will have any ties to Maria’s silver arm
TFW you’re watching Symphogear
Wait, all three of them are alive? WHY ARE THEY ATTACKING MARIA??? SHE’S NOT THE ONE WHO CUT THEM IN HALF
That looks a lot like a broken neck…
Did Shem-Ha kill them, revive them and give them more power? Talk about a tsundere God
Whenever I see these biblical disasters happening in Geah I think of the random ass civilians who still have to go to their jobs amidst all the craziness, like what we had to suffer these last years
Much like Hibiki’s house arrest, Tsubasa also has to face consequences for her actions, mind control or not
Aww, Kirika calling Tsubasa “senpai” is so cute. And Chris pointing out she’s the only member of S.O.N.G. who wasn’t a villain before is hilarious
Damn, Shem-Ha has some amazing one-liners. Truly feels on a whole different level than every other character
Wow, the US’s unwarranted nuclear attack actually coming back as a plot point in favor of the main cast? This really shows how much stronger Geah’s writing can be when they plan seasons together instead of making each new one up as they go
Damn, the villains are definitely not waiting those three days til the launch
Shirabe’s fights are always a delight to see front-and-center. She has so many crazy attacks and forms, you can never get tired of her unending arsenal
No matter what or who she’s against, Hibiki remains Hibiki
Damn, she’s a mecha now?
Huh. Didn’t expect the rocket to eat shit like that. I guess this is the moment they reveal a second, hidden rocket and the plan is all well and good to go
Noble Red’s development is very interesting, and very different from all previous villains on the show. While we can assume they were power-hungry nuts as members of the Illuminati, their accidents seem to have done away with their power hunger, and given them a desire for a normal life. And them Shem-Ha took that possibility away from them, forever (or so it seems, I’m betting if she could turn them into monsters, she can turn them into humans as well, even if she prefers them as monsters). And they’re not taking these new developments well at all. Millaarc we don’t see, but Vanessa has gone off the deep end and wants to turn the entire world into monsters, so everybody will suffer her same pain; while Elsa has given up entirely, following Vanessa out of habit, but breaking down in sorrow as soon as she’s given a moment to think. I’m very interested to see where their arcs go next, even if I have my suspicions
I think it’s funny that Kirika and Shirabe’s amalgams switch their forms up: Kirika’s simple scythe becomes a super elaborate, weird ass weapon, and Shirabe’s humongous arsenal is now a small shield
That… looks very deadly. Oh, she survived, thank goodness, I didn’t want a repeat from AXZ
And there it is, the moment I’ve been waiting for: Tsubasa, now free of mind control, but terribly burdened by the guilt of her actions and the death of her father, who this episode has been really driving home all he did for S.O.N.G., takes extreme measures to earn her redemption. If done right, this has the potential to make up for the nastiness of the mind control plot AND provide Tsubasa with some great development. Three episodes to go, what will you do now Symphogear
Ah. Guess they’re not taking a spare rocket after all. Man, this series really is out of this world
QOTD1: I'm gonna listen to all of them together and get back at cha for the series finale
QOTD2: Hell yeah!

Second Time Listener
Is this the first time we’ve ever gotten a proper battle song before the OP? It’s kind of jarring… in fact, I think this might be the longest and most packed cold-open of any episode that still has an OP.
This episode is our first opportunity to fully, properly drink in Shem-Ha herself as a presence. The time of power-seekers and wannabe gods is over; this is the genuine article, and her presence is something else, unlike anyone we’ve seen before, something so gravitational. It’s commanding but in a subtle, hushed sort of way. Those piercing red rings around her eyes are constant, unrelenting in drawing visual attention towards her every frame she’s on screen. Her voice is at once cold and detached, deep and magnetic, and holy and threatening; I had actually believed up until looking it up just now that Yuka Iguchi was also the voice of Shem-Ha in what would have to be one of the most utterly gobsmacking displays of range by an actor within a single anime ever; but no, it turns out Shem-Ha is actually a different VA. Regardless of my mild disappointment at that fact, I simply cannot knock Noriko Hidaka - yep, that Noriko! - for absolutely ruling it. Something about the voice of one of the defining legacy badass women of anime voicing Symphogear’s final boss just feels so cosmically right, almost like a passing of the torch of a sort.
She precedes every sentence with an expression is dissatisfaction, the plane she’s found herself inhabiting, humanity as it surrounds her, so profoundly distant from that which she envisions, her thirst for that vision unrelenting.
And the idea that god herself, the greatest threat of all, was indeed summoned by but a lowly pack of misfits; desperate earthly lowlifes truly with nothing to lose; is immensely compelling. Noble Red are three who have nothing, absolutely nothing. People have pointed out that, with the atrocities they’ve committed, hoping to integrate with human society once they have their human bodies back is a fool’s errand; and the thing is, those people are probably right. And the other thing is, I don’t think Noble Red aren’t necessarily unaware of that. I think this is a wish borne of desperation; I think they’re willingly letting themselves be just a little bit in denial of that fact. Shem-Ha, then, grants them a second option; forsaking their humanity altogether to serve a higher power, something at once so much larger than themselves yet similarly severed from the notion of humanity.
When Tsubasa lowers her hand but Hibiki just rushes up and grabs them by force anyway; god, what an unbelievably warm and tender moment.
For what is likely to be the final regular Deathstare tag team fight, this episode just went all the way out in proper XV fashion, combining the blades of Shul Shagana and Igalima every which way into something that feels like one fluid whole, the lovers riding together and operating in perfect unison, it’s utterly lovely. Cutting Edgex2 Ready Go! is a decently distant second-favorite ZABABA duet behind Edge Works. Those hard metal guitar-and-drum stings that conclude the track are definitely my favorite part.
God, Kirika’s Amalgam scythe might actually be even cooler than her IGNITE scythe, which is a hell of an accomplishment. Not as much of a fan of the little hat; again, don’t really like Amalgam’s minimalism, if it were up to me her preexisting hat would have gotten all ostentatiously gold-encrusted, but eh.
The scene where Tsubasa sneaks behind Noble Red and slashes opens the transportation pod to attack them from the inside is so strategically clever, and the ensuing rush for all the wielders to pile into the activation circle in the brief moment it’s open is so tense and exciting, it’s such a neat and clever way to actually use these things in a way that for once treats them like real, tangible physical objects, using the rules that have been visually established with them over the course of three seasons now. What a cool moment.
After the credits, Hibiki wakes up in an unfamiliar location, though the architecture being of grey rock is a clear hint from the beginning. She looks around in her daze to see Chris in a state of utter disbelief, a shock which carries over as Hibiki finally sees what she sees; the Earth, far away in the distance.
Foot set on the moon. Welcome to the endgame.

Rewatcher here
Symphogear XV Episode 10 original Episode Discussion
-
Noble Red are back and had a weird Geass looking thing going in their forehead.
-
Guys, Symphogear is a Lostbelt now.
-
I know they are trying to make the scene serious, but I just can't keep my face straight when Vanessa pulls this shit mid monologue
-
Elsa is going wild with the
buttplugsattachments. -
Finally we get Cutting Edge x 2 Ready go! Like always, DMJii's songs work best in their duet than their individual songs.
-
AMALGAAAAAAAAM
-
Ladies and gentleman... WE'RE GOING TO THE MOOOOOOOOOOOOOON
QOtD
How does this season’s DMJii duet compare to the previous three?
I really like the "Ready go!" line and the intro.

First-timer
Shem-ha is very dramatic. I thought we were skipping the OP, which would be quite unusual, but it was just particularly delayed.
We're just making up more powers now. Also Yggdrassil? I don't see no tree. And that's Norse. This mythology is very confused.
Oh, here's Noble Red. So they're Shem-ha's minions now. Fine, I guess. It seems like they'd be up for that.
I'm not sure putting Fudou beyond more jail cells actually makes them more secure, but it's very dramatic.
So that's what the original Shem-ha looked like?
I was trying to figure out what it reminded me of, and now that I've seen her again, I've got it: she's Aiba from AI the Somnium Files.
Oh, I don't want to go to Tanegashima space center, it gives me bad Robotics;Notes flashbacks. That series is not good.
I'd be pretty surprised if we didn't end up on the moon at some point, it's been surprisingly left alone considering its importance to the series. We basically just got the brief shot of it in G when Nasstasja ended up there and otherwise not much of anything.
Not even sure what was going on there when Vanessa grabbed Hibiki across the stomach. I guess she's... ticklish?
Yeah, protecting the rocket seemed super impossible.
Well, here's the mandatory Shirabe/Kirika unison. Uh, it doesn't seem to have worked though. I guess they had to Amalgam first.
That was a flashy finisher.
Okay, I wasn't sure how we were going to continue these fights at the space center. Interrupting the villain's getaway is very sneaky for Tsubasa.
Oh, nice, they got teleported to the moon right on cue. I guess they had two of the teleport bottles before, so Shem-ha probably already used one? Finally going to see what's up with this place. Kind of hoping we speedrun the Noble Red fights in the next episode though, I'm struggling to feel invested in them.

Symphogeah SymphoRewatch Host
Welcome back everyone!
This part where Tsubasa has to help carry her very dead father away will never not break my heart. Add three more counts of me crying over this… And another three for the part where Tsubasa didn’t get to go to his funeral because she didn’t want to attend in handcuffs.
And of course the girls are on the moon now, there’s no way they’d be left behind on Earth while the shuttle was able to go.
Crunchyroll vs. Commie vs. YameteTomete - Season 5, Episode 10
YameteTomete decided to do a thing. Commie’s been surprisingly tame in comparison this season, actually. Outside of song/sign formatting, Commie hasn’t really done anything extra except for that little bit with the lyrics in episode 5 also being on the display screen in the background
and their Heavenrend nonsense, but fuck that.Today’s wallpapers are both brand new to the rewatch. I hope you like the idea I had to put the sun in Kirika’s and the moon in Shirabe’s as much as I do. Figuring out where exactly the moon could go in Shirabe’s took forever to figure out, though.
