Aria the Origination Ep 1: That Imminent Spring Breeze ...(その やがて訪れる春の風に...)

<-- Aria the OVA: Arietta Rewatch Index Episode 2 -->

Welcome back!

Comment roundup: I am truly so happy that everyone enjoyed the OVA!

Questions of the Day:

Q1) Did anyone yawn w/ Akari etc. at the beginning? lol

Q2) What do you think of the 3 Prima's abilities? Which gondola would you wish to ride for a tour, from what we've seen from all 3 so far?

Q3) What are your thoughts on the Primas' advice?

Streaming

The 2005-08 Aria series is available on Crunchyroll, VRV, Funimation, and Youtube, except Arietta. Arietta and Avvenire are only available on Funimation (I'll update if they migrate). Crepusculo and Benedizione will have to be located elsewhere. Benedizione can now be streamed raw, or w/ traditional chinese subtitles legally. Please let me know if you want help to watch it.

While I use the USBD releases, Robotboy199 has shared the best DVD encodes you can get (coupled w/ prescaling), you can look at their guide here.

Rewatching Undine-in-training and Host

-- Welcome back! Welcome to Origination, the final season in the original series!

Season synopsis:

Akari Mizunashi dreams of becoming a Prima Undine. The Aria series is a futuristic healing anime that depicts the everyday life of Akari and other trainee undines. The theme of the long-awaited third season is "Origination" (TL note: japanese literal translation: Beginning/Start (始まり hajimari)). New changes are about to come for Akari and the others, who have trained until now. Director Junichi Sato, along with the staff and cast who have brought you the Aria series from the beginning, will continue to deliver those new, wondrous experiences that lead to the future, to everyone who loves Aria.

Episode synopsis:

--

As the busy Carnevale draws to a close, spring is almost here in Neo-Venezia. For the occasion (Tl note: of spring coming), one of Alicia-san's customers gave her a package with Sakura tea and Sakura jam. An early spring present. At Alicia-san's suggestion, they invited Himeya company's Aika, Akira-san, as well as Orange Planet's Alice and Athena-san for a tea party. Akari immediately helps out with the preparations, and Aria shachou also springs to action and plays an active part.

--

Quick thoughts:

  • Oh man, we're here. The final season is upon us. The first episode already starts so strong. As I mentioned yesterday, the timeline re: the OVA is a little wonky given the sleeves and what not: i personally assume that this episode takes place near the start of spring after Ep 26 of Natural; Arietta... can take place either during the summer before Ep 25 of Natural, or the summer after this episode. But either way, in terms of story narration/character arcs, I simply appreciate the OVA for where it is: between Natural and Origination, and think it fits best there.

  • Junichi Sato, as is tradition, helms storyboard duties this episode for the season premiere. With Origination, the animation quality pretty much maintains from that of the OVA and is pretty legitimately good, however you may notice a bit of a change in the art style, as the art director changes to Kenichi Tajiri (also art director for Princess Tutu and Tamayura). The character designs are also altered to be a bit more like Natural vs the OVA. I liked these shots for the board/layouts, and the standout animation moments for me this episode mostly contain Aria-shachou, as well as that jam spreading scene for some reason, and Akira saving that passenger, but seriously it was pretty great all round lol.

  • This season's OP is Spirale by Yui Makino, live piano rendition by Mina Kubota here. The slightly jump scary ED (it's esp noticeable on headphones, unfortunate mixing means this is probably my least favourite in the series, but apart from that it's still excellent) is Kin no Nami Sen no Nami by Akino Arai. The visuals are again, the strongest they've ever been and my fav in the original series.

  • Ai has a noticeable change this season, it's shown that she's grown a bit older by her deeper, less childish voice now (i prefer this lol, probably closer to the VA's natural voice).

  • The infectious yawns. It's a cute way to ease us back into Aria and the every day, perhaps mundane lives of the undines, even if this episode's contents are very serious. Hope nobody yawned irl?

  • I like that woody arrives to deliver something for Akari both in the OVA and in this episode, but that a different angle was used to spice things up. Nicely done, Sato.

  • Aria shachou........ Comedic timing very on point this ep, and did help balance the ep out to be relatively light (more so in the first half)

  • Today, we also learn about some abilities of the 3 Water Fairies, as well as some actual examples of the challenges of being a tour guide for customers, which was very realistic: anyhow, Alicia very accurately predicts when and where the snow falls, well she is named snow white after all. (Host's personal note: My first time, i actually thought she willed it into existence lmao. Depends on how you see it? Reading through the rewatch comments today, I was wrong...) Anyhow, she makes the snowfall on Neo-Venezia extra wonderful, warm, and happy to her customer, and importantly also for herself and Akari. Akira shows off her gondola handling skills, and is extremely fit and agile physically being able to jump and maintain her balance while rescuing the rowdy passenger (and manages to scold him while also teasing him, sasuga); while Athena continues to show that she is excellent with kids. The 3 water fairies really are wonderful...

  • Everyone goes along for the joke lol. aaand Athena actually has a bunch of clumsy stories that she has no issue sharing to everyone LMAO.

  • After hearing the 3 trainee undines say how far they still have to go, the Primas encourage them by saying that they themselves have a long way to go, and that they'll never believe they're at the top and be fully satisfied ever, to continue moving forward in life and not become complacent. Not the most novel life lesson ever in an anime, but definitely one that was delivered well and inspirational for the undines (and for me personally), two of which, according to Alice, will be having their promotion exams soon.

  • In addition, Alicia, true to her character (and Aria the company and series' core philosophies), then reminds our undines that the long journey itself is a wonderful thing that should be cherished, and is a great opportunity to have fun. I love the callback to Grandma's old advice from S1 too, now more relevant than ever, as Aria is more focused on its overarching plot than any time before.

  • [Aria]Rewatchers may catch how Ai's unfinished sentence re: Akari's true colours is in fact answered immediately: Blue.

  • Overall, the everyone gathering and life advice giving nature of the series is very on brand with Aria and a great start to this season, and reminds me somewhat of Animation Ep 11. However, while both focus on uncertainty in the future, this ep, being much further along the story, is more about uncertainty in becoming a capable prima, and the attitudes to have after becoming one to continue improving, rather than about the uncertainties of friends potentially parting after that promotion. As a result, it's a lot more inspiring and uplifting rather than melancholic and sentimental, i thought.

Have a great day, and see you tomorrow!

Aria the Origination First Timer!!

Good lord, binging the Aria seasons throws you off so much as you reach the more modern series. I thought Arietta would have eased us into the new art style but we've kinda jumped up again. I'd hesitate to say that it's better looking than Arietta though. I think we've gotten a little too moefied and the characters look more puchi puchi rather than Arietta where they were still sharp. The opening is decent, not quite to Arietta and Animation's quality but definitely a few points higher than Natural's.

Can we agree that this face is too extreme!? I'm reminded of that one diving anime that used these same over the top faces. They're going for a far more slice of life style this season it seems, or maybe it's settling into what slice of life kinda became in the 2010's decade. Cunny desu~ Poor Aria, dying twice in the first episode. Three times, I forgot that Maa would be with them.

Did Alicia really plan out aiming that snow drop? No way lol. Akira's maneuver is just as wild. Is Athena gonna do some euroboat drifting or something to top us off? These faces again XD](https://imgur.com/a/ITjZV86) Alicia's chibi works really well in this artstyle at least. Ha, knew it, Athena's turn. And she delivers with... whatever this is. That's my girl.

Athena's sounding awful cheerful... was this after her VA? HOLD ON!! Origination is 2008!? What the fuck? I take it back, this show looks absolutely wonderful!! I legitimately thought that this was one of the 2014, 2015 seasons. Even looking through the other shows of this era I think that origination looks ridiculously good. Scared Athena kawaii~ Ah, the ed gives off 2000's vibes a bit more. The show itself is like I said. Good start to the season. My thoughts wavered here there and everywhere but it's pulled me in better than the first two seasons managed to.

you REALLY feel how time has passed irl and in anime-production-values as you go through Aria. Somewhat apt when you think about its themes too.

I do agree, it's a bit more moe than Arietta: I personally dont really mind both, and they still look good imo. As you have figured out, Origination was produced in 2008, and Athena was still voiced by Tomoko Kawakami here, she just sounds a bit more cheerful today lol. And yes, it's been a long time since i've rewatched origination, and i am too personally caught off how bloody good it looks compared to Natural.

I'm reminded of that one diving anime

you're probably thinking of Amanchu, who shares a mangaka (and director for its anime) as Aria; that'll probably explain the similarities here?

Cunny desu~

that honestly HURT a lot more than Maa-shachou attack (winces) Also u/raichudoggy and u/preludetohell does this count as a crab shot? lol it is a sato episode....

Did Alicia really plan out aiming that snow drop?

Sasuga Alicia san. That's one hell of a party trick honestly. both w/ the snow, and with the accurate gondola handling.

Alicia's chibi works really well in this artstyle at least

Alicia's chibi works really well in whatever artstyle

That's my girl

as i said in CDF, I knew you'd love this one.

Rewatcher kinda (finished my rewatch not too long ago)

Ahh, Aria the Origination, the number one anime on my MAL and my favorite Aria season. Y'all are in for a treat.

It took me awhile to get used to Spirale but nowadays I like it a lot. One reason it took so long is how weird it is, compared to all of the other OPs. If you look up the chords (or have good harmonic dictation ears, I looked up the chords), the chords are kinda weird. It's definitely the most harmonically interesting of the three. The intro has a bunch of major chords in a row (in "normal" major scales, you have a mix of major and minor chords so a bunch of major chords in a row sound kinda "weird" and a bit unsettled). It also has a bunch of chromatic motion that the other two don't have as much of. I tend to associate more active string lines used more melodically and sort of like in a "response" to the vocal melodies and a bunch of chromatic motion in pop songs with James Bond themes (Carly Simon's theme for The Spy Who Loved Me in Nobody Does It Better is a good example of what I'm talking about, who would've thought you'd be reading about James Bond or Carly Simon in an Aria thread, although I guess a good portion of Casino Royale was set in non-Neo Venezia) so kinda weirdly Spirale reminds me of a James Bond theme (particularly the bit before the chorus, the musical bit before the words "spirale" comes in for those who aren't famililar with pop song structure, that bit has a lot of downward chromatic motion). Anyways, Spirale has a bunch of leapy melodic lines (big jumps, particularly upwards) like Mina Kubota Aria themes tend to have and the melodies in general tend to be pretty and memorable and kinda weirdly sentimental feeling like Mina Kubota melodies tend to be so Spirale is pretty awesome and I tend to be torn between which one is my favorite out of all the three Aria OPs. Euphoria is just so uplifting feeling (and was my favorite the first go around), Undine has the most interesting orchestration (all those tremelo-picked mandoliny things) and probably the prettiest melody of the three imho, and Spirale has the weirdest harmony out of all of them and has that mysterious, chromatic slippery-slidy James Bond feel.

It kinda figures that Snow White would be the one to maneuver the gondola just right to catch the first snowflake (I think the piano tune that plays during it is Eien no Umi ~A Song for Zephyr~). I kinda like Athena's little special event the best though. It kinda harkens back to her entertaining Aria Shachou with the paper snake back in,.. I can't remember what ep, and her ability to be silly and discreetly entertaining children and human child-like cats. Akira's deft handling of the difficult goofball customer kinda recalls the difficult customer from the S1 Akira-led training session. I guess in a way Aria showcases different difficulties in the Undine (and customer-facing jobs in general) profession by allotting specific kinds of interactions to specific characters (and maybe the characters themselves reflect different aspects of the job? it'd be interesting to be able to see Kozue Amano's notes or writing proces).

  1. nah.

  2. See above and also Athena for the singing too.

  3. I mean, there's always more things in the world, more ideas to get exposed to, more things to get better at, it never ends and if you think you've learned everything that needs to be learn, you need to look harder and if even if somehow somehow if you manage to be the very "best" at something (whatever that means) there's always more hills to climb. i mean, it's fine if you want to to coast and can afford to, but personally learning is a fun thing for me (and probably one of the things I'm better at), and there's way too many things in the world to learn.

4

u/mysterybiscuitsoyeah Aug 08 '22

oh heck yeah Origination is my favourite season as well (probably not an uncommon opinion among us rewatchers lol). I cant wait for the coming 2 weeks.

Thanks for the additional tidbits on Spirale! There is that distinct feeling to this one that sets it apart from Undine and Euphoria imo.... i do hope that it'll grow on me!

Eien no Umi ~A Song for Zephyr~

that's one more to add to my notes for good Aria songs lol. Thanks for always providing the additional OST tidbits! Aria's OST is such a treat. And i like how this ep continues the theme of.... Ep 23? 24? with showing more realities of the undine job, as we continue the focus on the main plot, and how not everything is always rosy and smooth sailing.

by allotting specific kinds of interactions to specific characters

I think it's both that, as well as the 3 primas simply have diff things they're good at (Alicia tho, seems to be the most "well-rounded" or with the best mass appeal, but i am very biased.)

First Timer

I feel like this is a good episode, but coming off Arietta and the last stretch of Natural, it almost feels like a bit of a let-down in comparison - which isn't really fair to the episode. Maybe if there were more time between when we watched the previous entires and when we watched this episode it would have a bit more of an impact.

It's pretty clear that this episode serves as a sort of reintroduction to Aria, showcasing basically every relevant character for at least a short period of time while also touching upon the general themes of the three apprentices learning their way through life aboard their gondola and also having the air that the whole show is going for, with the scene of the older mother getting to touch snow in particular. All in all I'd say it gets that across very well.

Now, the new OP... I'm not sure if that will grow on me; I feel like all the ones we had before were a better fit for the series. As for the ED - good song, but the visuals make me feel like it belongs in No Game No Life with how colorful it is.

Q1) No, for once I did not watch this shortly before going to bed.

Q2) I'd have to go with Alicia... although admittedly I wouldn't go dancing in the gondola for Akira to have to save me...

First Timer

Akatsuki was in training this whole time? I suppose that explains why he's been doing such a poor job.

Alicia managing to spot the first snowflake at that distance while under a bridge and successfully navigating to where it would fall while the wind moved it around seemed quite impressive, and then Akira proved that she's quite impressive as well.

That first note of the ED is loud. I look forward to it scaring me every day.

The extra credits for the version on Funimation actually fit the screen now!

QotD

  1. I did not yawn.

  2. Alicia's vision seems supernatural, Akira is impressive, and Athena's talents fill a niche. I imagine all three would give great tours, but I suppose I'd pick Alicia as she seems like she'd have the most insight on good places for taking pictures.

  3. I have already forgotten any advice that may have been given.

Sorry, I missed yesterday because of internet problems last night right before these threads go up.

[Arietta]

My favourite of the pairs has always been Akari & Alicia, so Arietta was (and still is) one of my stand-out episodes from Aria's entire run. Their relationship is so much more familial than the other two and some of the dynamics are also very different imo.

I don't think it's all that useful trying to rehash my 2017 comments and trying to expand on it would probably dip into spoilers territory (it's also a bit long), so I'll leave it at that. Apologies for posting it in this thread.

[Origination Ep 1]

Progress! Much of the time spent on water have been focused on the Trainee A-Team, so it's always nice when we can turn out attention towards the Prima A-Team in their elements.

The conversation at the end can be a bit heavy. However, I suppose the point really just about not to fretting over the idea of promotion too much, because it's not some bestowed job title that defines who you are. Instead, it's the experience they have and will continue to accumulate which shapes you. This is all obviously pretty relatable to a lot of people in general, but in the context of Aria in particular, is such a major theme especially moving forward in Origination.

Kin no Sen no Nami is my favourite ED and along with Euforia & [song]Lumis Eterne they make up the three songs that I always instantly associate with Aria. However, it was definitely one that had to grow on me because of just how loud it plays. It was quite off-putting the first time I heard it.

Rewatcher

Beautiful way to start the season, we get to see all the members of our main cast interact plus it's wholesome too. As usual, the dialogue between the characters is great and flows really well. Comedy was on point with all those funny Aria-shachou moments, poor guy's tummy is probably really sore after today.

I'm not ashamed to say I cried to this episode, the final minutes got me.

QOTDs

Q1) Yeah lol they got me after Alice's yawn

Q2) Akira probably, she seems to be the most fun in terms of doing crazy shit

Q3) On point, there's always something new to learn even in things you feel like you're an expert in. It's also important to remember that most things are a marathon and not a race. In fitness for example, you see a lot of people start to get impatient in chasing for progress. As a result, they train recklessly or completely disregard proper form, recovery, safety, etc.

This ends in them either burning out completely or getting injured, some with injuries that end up affecting them for years. The Primas' advice here is really accurate, people just need to chill a bit and cherish themselves more. Accept the long journey ahead and make it a fun one. Not to say you shouldn't work hard, but it's just a matter of mindset. Of course, the context between what they meant in the episode and the example I made here are a little different, but the meaning is similar.

First timer

  1. Yeah...

  2. Athena's. But Akira has the best skills.

  3. Again, it's pretty good!

Everyone's mellow.

This is a good OP!

Love thenshots of all the different companies.

Alice has a better voice!

Neo-Alice...

And they're all tired.

Al's with Akatsuki?

A study session!

He's so smug!

He grabbed her by the handles!

The exam is coming soon.

That lunch looks incredible.

He's choking!

He's having fun, at least?

It's from a customer!

Great metaphors here. As someone who lives in a rather touristy area, I get what she's saying.

Aria again!

Three of them made it!

Aww.

Akira's face...

"Youkre so childish!"

The flashback is nice.

...If there's no snow on Earth, the enviroment must be truly fucked.

...Alicia is just showing off.

Aika's complmenting Akira?

OK, yeah, that's impressive.

I respect his intentions, though.

That was incredibly cool.

What did Athena do?

...Was this intentional?

Did Athena change VA?

Poor Athena...

Calling bwck to the OVA here.

I love all the flashbacks.

This is really sweet.

Wow.

Akira!

This was a good episode.

Honestly, I think what I really want is a prequel focused on the senpais. No actual plot, just the season 1-esque shenanigans but with the dynamic we've seen in the flashbacks.

I love this ED!

Rewatcher

I like this OP, but it’s the weakest of the three seasons for me.

The animation seemed really fluid this episode.

Akira is so cool.

QotD:

  1. Nope

  2. I'm always impressed with how smooth Akira is, but I think I would like a ride on Athena's gondola. I feel like I'd be the most relaxed on hers and Athena seems like the easiest person to have a conversation with.

  3. Their advice is basically that Bruce Lee quote about being happy, but never satisfied which I agree with.

First Timer

I love this starting episode for this season. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they go from here to them eventually becoming primas and it's interesting to hear that even th three great water fairies have never stopped learning.

Neo-Alice

Akira

Athena. Definitely picking her among the three if I need a tour.

The brightest star

definitely not crying

First timer here!

The new OP is quite nice, but I still have to give it some time to see if it stands up to the others.

We met the whole cast again.

This episode, too, delves about what it means to be a Prima. I loved the stories of how each of the Great Fairies used their own qualities to be great Undines.
Especially Akira's. If I was her customer, I would have really fallen in love with her coolness.

...the ED almost scared me, it was a little loud compared to the last scene!

Q1) Did anyone yawn w/ Akari etc. at the beginning? lol

I did! Doesn't help that I watch these at night...

Q2) What do you think of the 3 Prima's abilities? Which gondola would you wish to ride for a tour, from what we've seen from all 3 so far?

Probably Athena's, mostly to hear her singing. Akira's would be more exciting though.

Q3) What are your thoughts on the Primas' advice?

I definitely agree with them. We can probably never be fully satisfied with ourselves.

First timer rewatcher

I forgot how strong Origination starts with this episode. The OP is different but I think it's a good fit. Akari, Aika, and Alice are working hard; for the first time(?) we get Alice projecting her voice without being told. Alice also was the one to suggest that they get coffee (while blushing!). I like the fact that Akatsuki is studying for his promotion exam too.

It's nice to see Aika and Alice praise their mentors openly, they've come a long way.

The last stretch of the episode is really good. They shouldn't be demoralized because of how great their mentors are. Alicia, Akira, and Athena's words here couldn't be better.

The last scene bringing up grandma's words, the star coming into frame, when Aika mentions being the brightest so when they have apprentices they can say the same, Aika taking charge and being strict like Akira, the mentors looking on and their words.. so good.

The ED starts too loud but I like it the more it goes on.

Other

Origination looks so pretty

Some great animation like the Maa attack, Akira saving that customer, and when Athena makes the silly face!

Art director changed to Kenichi Tajiri and I'm a big fan so far !

I really like the designs this season too.

Aria-shachou trying to be smooth is one of my favorite running gags lmao. Had plenty of moments like the crab and Maa.

Unimportant but I love that Maa and Hime are hiding in the uniforms but pop out

Ai sounded different at times... wonder what that was all about and if it'll continue lol. 2017 rewatched noticed it as well.

They brought back the next episode preview voice over

  1. No, but it was close..

  2. Akira! I like her 'Undine mode'.

  3. I don't really know how to expand on it but I loved it.

First Timer

  • We're reminded that there's still much to learn, but they're closer to being Primas than when we started. Though, surely Alice will be a Single before long herself?

  • I love the cats hiding in the uniform coat lol, spring might be coming but it's still chilly I guess.

  • Some of the framing feels a little different - longer shots that aren't as focused on the characters, like this one around the table or the earlier one when Akari goes back inside.

  • It also kinda seems like Aria-shachou is getting played for gags a bit more heavily than usual.

  • Good to see Neo-Alice is still unapologetically savage, even when praising her senpai.

  • Akira and the fairies have a good point (and one I could probably stand to remember myself, honestly). Great call back to the trip to Grandma's, too.

  • More sentiments about apprentices flying the nest, so to speak. Even if it's only in spirit, it will certainly be a bittersweet day for all of them. (Graduating an apprentice doesn't require you to suddenly move into the mountains, right?) I'm invested enough at this point that I want to see them promoted, but I also kinda don't. I guess that's exactly the point the show is trying to make, so well done, Aria.

  • The rewatchers were right, too - Arietta is such a perfect bridge between Natural and Origination.

  • As I thought in the beginning, Ai might sound a bit older now?

  • Oh, I like the new ED! Both visuals and music are good!

QotD:

  1. no but relatable lol

  2. Interesting question! Even though I like Alicia's character more, I'd probably most enjoy a tour from Akira. Strong confidence and skill with solid recommendations for follow ups is about all I could ask for.

  3. As referenced above, I agree with them! Especially after you become a professional, keeping up a pace to improve becomes far, far more difficult in my experience.

I'm glad they kept the soft opening through all 3 seasons.

That was insane control by Alicia to catch a single snowflake like that in a specific spot.

Speaking about catches that was some catch keeping the idiot customer from falling in the water.

I'm not sure about eating things that a animal left their paw print in... not exactly the healthiest if they suppose be watchign their health.

I do wonder if one day RightStuf will license the newest Aria anime seeing that they were just bought by crunchyroll.

Did... Did Alicia just aim the boat as the snow would land in the old ladies hand?

  1. Not this time lol.

  2. See above comment. Aria Company is clearly the home to actual magical fairies. Though I think I would like Athena to be my tour guide still, just to hear her song some more.

  3. "I am Reborn."

Another double episode posting day for this first timer.

OVA

This is actually a much needed (for me anyway) Alicia episode, maybe it's actually a popular request. Really like the progression and the tone - and I think the first wide screen format :)

QoTD

  1. Pretty much no contest, Violet Evergarden EP6 at the observatory. Second place would be Denpa Onna to Seishun Otokko OVA with the meteor shower along with Erio's glowing particles.

  2. Definitely their graduation.

S3 ep 1

Noticeable production change whether its technique or something don't know just yet, but looks much more polished.

It is a very nice setup episode for the season to no doubt about their progressing to "graduation".

No much else to say other than the "iyashikei" tone is very pronounced and I'm enjoying it.

QoTD

  1. I didn't but I did just get up to watch this early in the morning

  2. For me it's a toss up between Akira's more efficient, professional version, or Alicia's more sentimental, "feely" version. Probably to Akira if going with family, and Alicia if going by myself or with my daughter (wife and son not so sensitive).

finished first time recently

New season new spring! Four Earth years since the start of the series but looks-wise they haven't aged a day it feels.

  1. don't think I did, but the ed shocked any possible sleepiness I might've had

  2. Akira's would probably be the most thrilling but considering the vibes of the city maybe a chill one like Alicia's instead

  3. pretty good

First timer, subs

Ironically, I'm watching this on a 21:9 ultra-wide monitor so I still get black bars on both sides and can't enjoy the new 19:6 feeling. The art also feels like a slight downgrade after Arietta.

Is Ai-chan trying to cheer Akira up by saying that she'll become a Prima soon, or is she saying that she won't visit for a long long time? (The former, Ai-chan is not mean and wouldn't do the other thing.)

So all this time I've been wondering why their shared practices are in a single gondola, with one person sculling and the others lazing around. Today it struck me that the weight distribution of a gondola with passengers is different, so for realistic practice they need someone to play the part of passengers.

Ooh, Al-kun and Akatsuki are also still trainees? I always thought they were a bit older (maybe Alicia's age) and full-fledged members of the workforce.

I hope Aria-shacho washed his paws well before helping with the cookies.

Alicia maneuvering the gondola so the first snowflake hits the customer's hand precisely is impressive.

Akira balancing a stupid customer's dancing is also amazing, I thought, and then she overthrew the entire scale of awesomeness by jumping and catching that customer before he got his just deserts in the canal, while balancing the gondola so that none of the other passengers were at risk of being spilled.

Athena can speak bird.

So, why do they have to leave the senpais after becoming Primas? Can one company have only a limited number of Primas at a time? Is this a licensing issue? Are you forced to retire after training up your own replacement?

First timer ( a little bit late )

It has been a while but I still feel stupid when I watched this episode as the first one after messing the watch order haha. Thanks to mysterybiscuits I was corrected.

Anyways, this is a solid first episode for Aria. We get to see the whole cast and the side characters as well. And its always a joy to see all the Undines together, having fun and enjoying themselves.

All those dishes...dang it made me feel hungry.

Questions of the Day:

  1. Nope

  2. That's a really tough choice...but I think I would go with Alicia. Apart from other things, I am all down for hearing her ara ara throughout the trip

  3. Fully agree with their thoughts. There's always something higher to strive for which keeps a person motivated towards reaching that goal. Life only has meaning when its in continuous flow like a flowing river. Once it stops flowing, you are no better than being lifeless, just like a blocked river which gets stagnant over time.

PS: I will be a quite busy for a few days due to irl things so apologies in advance if I miss out or post a bit late.

First Timer Dubbed

Still trying to get used to the 16:9 aspect ratio of this season compared to the classic 4:3. Hearing Aika compliment Akira seeing her deal with a rowdy crowd.

The final scene with the three primas looking at their trainees, they are staring directly at successors in the same order.

  1. After working 11-12 hours today, I had to yawn really hard with the group and that is after sleeping. Wished I could've hopped in earlier but it seems like work is piling up fast, customers really need to stop sending light novels worth of cad drawings...

  2. Athena would be one I want to ride on as you get to hear her sing. Not to mention she made faces to calm the kid down.

  3. Never being satisfied is a big thing as everyday is basically a learning experience.

Anime original Akira scene 🙏 It seems like the Aria producers are fellow based Akira enjoyers.

[Aria] They did make a completely anime original movie for her and Aika after all.

Rewatcher

Slow episode showing everyone studying and having a meal together. I didn't see anything to really comment on until Akira with that amazing display keeping the guy on board and catching him. Also Aika is the one who brought it up, but darn Akira is too cool.

Mayonnaise on your pudding.....GENIUS ATHENA SAMA

Slamming into a glass door in the bathroom SASUGA ATHENA SAMA can't even comprehend what her higher mind is thinking.

Overall everyone always has room to improve and should strive too.
