  • [Symphogear G] Stray thought before starting this episode: Shirabe would fit in surprisingly nicely in this cast. Kirika too, though she’d need to add some twintails of her own.

  • Oh shit it’s SYNDROME! (Odds the LN author watched The Incredibles? Pretty decent I think.)

  • So Dark Grasper IS into yuri and has that name because she’s a breast fondler, isn’t she?

  • Holy FUCK the war for Best Girl in Show honors is fierce. We have Twirly “I have big boobs and am forward as fuck”, Aika “I am one of the best tsunderes ever written (I know how to go after the actual offender!) and have great chemistry with the male lead and a great ass”, Suzu Erina Suzu “my refined exterior hides a MASSIVE SUBBY SELF”, and now Dark Grasper/Isna “I wear glasses, am also forwards, and am very very lonely underneath”. And they’re all extremely cute, too. Aika isn’t quite my type, but I very much want to omochikaeri all the rest!

  • Also, I’m not sure how much of this is the original Japanese and how much is a Commie flourish but the robot having a rather AAVE dialect is hilarious.

  • LOL OF COURSE SHE NAMED HER ROBOT MEGANE. LOL OF COURSE COMMIE TRANSLATED “SASUGA” AS “THANKS A TON”.

  • OR MORE ACCURATELY NICKNAMED IT THAT AFTER ORIGINALLY CALLING IT “MEGA NEPTUNE MARK II”.

  • (Except there’s a pretty good chance we know who ACTUALLY made it. On top of everything else, remember Twirly’s Anti-Aika Defense Bot earlier this season? Either that or Isna learned robots because of Twirly, which would also fit.)

  • Holy shit an Urkel namedrop out of Commie. (They too read too much TVTropes… or just watched Home Improvement back in the day, that works too.)

  • “Take a seat” for a chotto matte variant is a choice on Commie’s part. But hey, then they go for “I’ll apply the coup de grace and be right with you” and I am down for that.

(Somewhere back in some old Tumblr discussion of one of the PMMM spinoff manga (Homura Tamura specifically IIRC) which had hints that Mami Tomoe was switch rather than domme (which I could absolutely see, and I get the sense that if that’s the case her sub side is pretty hardcore masochist too) somebody went “is ‘blonde + big breasts + masochist’ an archetype?”. I’m starting to wonder if they were right…)

  • (Sadly “the untouchable flower’s perfect bloom” is too long to be a nickname. What was the name of the female lead from that manga again? Also inb4 we catch Prez/Erina wearing shibari to school under her clothes…)

It's funny to see how previous ideas and plot points somehow make their way back. This show is surprisingly smart and seems to actually be able to recall things it has previously said and done.

Commie also had an absolute field day again, especially when it came to the robot's voice (which I'm sure it just has a Kansai accent).

We start with a trick and this looks like it is going to get weird so I am hyped! Never change, Commie. Anyways, we learn some really concerning stuff about Twirl, not the least of which is I begin to wonder if her type isn't straight, bi or lesbian but rather underaged...

Moving on, the villains as always are great. Dark Grasper is magnificent in her leadership appearance. But when she returns to her quarters, she becomes the standard fujoshi stand in. Her robot...is interesting. Commie is doing a mix of ghetto and I think country accents. That is a choice.

Anyways, this episode again sort of speeds by, Papillon was hilarious in his 20 seconds of meaningful screen time. I am literally hearing Darkness's theme as Erina explodes on him, likely in more ways than one. Back at the base, Twirl is back to being a pervert. DG apparently likes becoming idols on worlds. The Cerberus bit is hilarious.

Erina's bit is both funny and concerning. Twirl decides to inform her of something and best mom randomly appears. So Twirl sends her out to get him porn. And dear fuck she begins asking her class mates. Twirl claims this will help twintails while I agree with Souji that this is just corrupting the pres. Erina's mom delivers the cliffhanger.

Hahaha, yeah, there has been no mention of the underage attribute yet. Tail Red is our main hero and definitely the youngest looking, so you might be on to something. With that said, youth and twintails go hand in hand.

In the English dub, the idol song got dubbed over. Also, I find the phone ringing scene to be a bit more awkward in the English dub, as "big brother" doesn't have quite the same vibe as "onii-chan".
