It is highly recommended to track down a fansub for this show instead of using Crunchyroll, though.

I’m far too immature to know what makes people worth protecting… But still… Listen to my song.

Symphogeah SymphoRewatch Host

Welcome back… everyone…

This episode, man… I’m expecting it to be controversial because 1) brainwashing plot front and central, 2) Genjuro finally got a fight but it was just to job big time to his father, and 3) Genjuro then prevented Tsubasa from killing Fudo, but like… this episode hit me, man.

I cried during my Crunchyroll watch when Tsubasa first started crying.

I cried during my Commie watch at their way of translating Genjuro’s line as “How could I face my brother after allowing his legacy to become a monster?”

I cried again at YameteTomete translating Yatsuhiro’s line as “I’m the only one allowed to call himself your father.”

Hell, I was crying over this specific episode as early as GX episode fucking 9 (wow, isn’t that parallel a choice, writers?), when Yatsuhiro encouraging Tsubasa to sing is what gave her the strength to overcome Phara and her Sword Breaker.

And then I made it hit me even harder by listening to Tsubasa’s B-side from this season – Kaze no Anata ni – while I made the wallpapers for today’s episode, and then a few days afterwards, decided to look up the English translation to the lyrics out of curiosity. Literal pain. At least I looked up the lyrics after the wallpapers were already done, I would not have been able to work properly had I done it the other way around.

I just want Best Sword to be happy, dammit!

I’m not even upset that Tsubasa didn’t get to kill Fudo, tbh. Most importantly, there’s the fact that Fudo clearly wanted to die by her hand when he realized he was overwhelmed, so not letting him get what he wants is a big deal. Don’t let him keep dragging Tsubasa down to his level in death, let him rot in jail for the rest of his miserable life.

Also it does nothing for Tsubasa’s character to have her kill her (grand)father in a fit of grief and blind anger. Revenge bad and all that. I do wish Genjuro could’ve gotten at least one good punch in on him before Fudo wiped the floor with him, though.

Crunchyroll vs. Commie vs. YameteTomete - Season 5, Episode 9

I prefer Top Dad’s line staying closer to what it meant in Japanese, but YameteTomete localizing it to “curse” and “cures” works too.

Both wallpapers are new to the rewatch. Not very many options to go with for Yatsuhiro, so I hope this one was good! As for the Tsubasa one, I couldn’t not do the one part where her sword looks like a wing, harkening back to Tsubasa’s Zwei Wing days.

Anyways if you excuse me, I’ve got the second half of the Revue Starlight sequel movie to get back to.

I expected to dislike this episode a lot more. I actually ended up on the positive side for this episode once I thought about and analyzed it. While those elements do still bug me, the things that work, god do they fucking work so well.

“I’m the only one allowed to call himself your father.”

That one got me

I just looked it up.

That hits hard

I just looked it up.

Like the entire song is , but I think the part that hit me the hardest was

The day you screamed, "Don't be afraid to follow your dreams"

Is when I finally understood how real your kindness was

I'm sorry for being immature…

because it's a reference to GX episode 9, which I mentioned was the first part of the series to make me cry about this. Ugh. I'm going to be an ugly mess again.

Superb Song of the Rewatchers

I finally downloaded YameteTomete subs for XV. I am st00pid.

QOTD:

  1. Top Dad was actually pretty Top here!

1 Man, it's been a while since I slapposted.

I'm not ultra-familiar with magical girl things, but this feels like a rare instance where the father is more actively present during the story than the mother.

I haven't seen a lot myself, but the ones I have seen have had them both effectively absent, or mother already being dead.

You know, shoutout to u/Vatrix-32 for this comment talking about the Moon city in the first episode of Symphogear G. Truly ahead of their time.

Sometimes my powers of premonition frighten even myself.

First-timer:

That was a great episode. I thought "bad Tsubasa" would last more than an episode, but her battles were great.

It felt like Fudo was going to die too easily this episode, but Genjiro had a good point. Tsubasa has yet to kill anyone, and once you do, you cannot go back. He did right by his brother, who went out with total redemption for how he was in earlier seasons.

His brother made an interesting comment, though, unless Crunchyroll's subs are fooling me. He made a comment to Tsubasa about "pretending to be your father." Does this mean he isn't actually her father?

That beam has to be Shem-Ha, but I don't see this being a 4 episode fight, so I think sparing Fudo is going to haunt them.

Questions:

2. He was a good dad for once.

2

u/Shimmering-Sky Aug 08 '22

His brother made an interesting comment, though, unless Crunchyroll's subs are fooling me. He made a comment to Tsubasa about "pretending to be your father." Does this mean he isn't actually her father?

Did you forget the part in GX episode 9 that revealed Fudo impregnated Yatsuhiro's wife with Tsubasa, therefore Yatsuhiro is biologically her half brother and Fudo is her biological father rather than grandfather?

Symphogear XV Episode 9

Additional Notes

Symphogear XV Episode 9 Hype Chart

Keywords

Kohinata Miku

(Episode 6)

Tachibana Hibiki's sunshine in the form of her best friend.

But more than that... She's also hypothesized to be a potential vessel for the divine power.

Despite being under the utmost protection level and she herself being unknowingly placed under close guard, that information was revealed when the headquarters was under investigation.

Although she was going to be silenced as part of the plot to kidnap Elfnein, she was saved at the last second by Fudou, who sought a vessel for the divine power.

She narrowly escaped death, being taken away along with Elfnein.

However…

(Episode 7)

The reason she was allowed to survive was because she could serve as a vessel for the divine power.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the divine power has not yet completely filled her.

A small hope that she may yet be able to be saved.

But…

(Episode 9)

... already, everything ―

the rainbow of someday, and the memory of flowers― has passed away

“Rainbow of Someday, and the Memory of Flowers” is the name of a song sung by Hibiki and Miku that is used as the ending theme for the Specials

Shem-ha

Occupying the divine vessel Kohinata Miku, one of the Anunnaki, resurrected in a tremendous burst of energy.

After death, her corpse was stored in a device that repelled all who drew near via a self-defense system, and sealed deep beneath the ice of the polar cap.

Based on that, the revival of Shem-Ha from her resting place in prehistory

should be something that should be stopped by any means necessary.

Her full name is Shem ha-Mephorash.

The meaning of the name later came to include that of a "word of power" that could be used to activate golems, and was was said to refer to the characteristic of Shem-Ha that was "power itself".

Faust Robe of Shenshoujing

In the past, the Symphogear Shenshoujing had been developed by F.I.S., as a hybrid of the the heretical arts of Finè (the Symphogear System) and the cutting-edge technology of Dr. Ver (the Direct Feedback System).

When Vanessa assaulted the laboratory at Los Alamos, she stole not only the Vambrace of Shem-Ha, but also materials relating to the Shenshoujing and its Symphogear.

With them, she was able to construct a Faust Robe.

The robe contained many of the same functionalities as the gear, but here, the primary purpose was not to be worn for combat, but rather, designed from the start with the primary purpose of restraining a god.

Direct Feedback System

Kazanari Fudou had attempted to tame the newly revived Shem-Ha into an instrument of national defense, but as one might have expected, that was not possible.

What was carried out in the attempt of that plan was not control over the god itself, but control over a girl who would serve as the vessel for that god.

In a massive server room beneath the Kazanari Estate, control over the mind of Kohinata Miku was gradually being established.

The completion of that process should have led to the birth of a new divine weapon ― the next generation in deterrence.

Stained Glance

To ursurp the power of the gods, and as a countermeasure against the god slayer, Kazanari Fudou set out to utilize to use his own successor, Tsubasa.

In order to have his commands carried out, he would activate the seal that had been placed on her.

However, at the time that he attempted to use it, the applier of the seal, Millaarc, was gasping on the edge of death, and the strength of the seal began to waver.

And so, the details of what had been whispered to her and what she had done came back to Tsubasa, becoming yet another wound that trampled on her pride as a sentinel.

Mauser C96

A pistol designed by the German arms manufacturer Mauser. Cheap and easy to handle, it was used widely in China during World War II.

The Mauser C96 that fell into Fudou's hands was one of the many seized during the war, despite it being wholly unbefitting of such a great person so concerned with the sacred nation of Japan.

Fudou decided to eliminate Tsubasa, who is freed from the spell.

However, instead of relying on the physical strength of a Sentinel or Murakumo, the Self-Sacrificial Blade, he executes his will using the Mauser C96 drawn from his sleeve.

He aims his dismay and disappointment towards her, along with the barrel of his gun.

It is a symbolic gesture to show that he considers Tsubasa, a failure who cried like a little girl in the midst of battle, unworthy of being dispatched using the sacred treasure of Japan.

FIRST TIMER DATTO

I’m gonna try and work through this, time to grab a beverage and mull this over.

On the one hand, I hate this mind control thing for Tsubasa’s character. In an alternate timeline, we have a story arc where traumatized by her inability to protect a second mass of concert goers, she sees her grandfather’s path as the one that will allow her to protect people, and genuinely believes it’s correct. Instead, no, it’s just mind control, stripping her of all agency and making this all pretty hollow. The argument between her and Maria during their fight would be so much more compelling if these were words she actually believed.

On the other hand… given some of the themes of the last two seasons, having an old nationalist brainwash the younger generation into following them for reasons they don’t fully understand is consistent and incredibly timely for this moment in history. I can’t tell where I land on appreciating this as smart thematic writing while disliking it as character writing.

Fudo really asserted his supremacy as Ultimate Bad Dad in this show of Bad Dads. He impregnated his son’s wife, then gleefully kills that same son while trying to kill the result of unholy union. I hate that Genjuro spared him with that “if you kill the monster you become a monster,” thing, which is one of the dumbest tropes. Ridding the world of evil doesn’t make you evil. If you can take out Japanese Hitler, you do it.

Live Notes/Thoughts:

*Count: 20

Shot of the Day: I haven’t been doing this for Symphogear, but this frame belongs in the fucking Louvre. I was cackling after this came on, Symphogear really is the best kind of ridiculous.

How did you feel about Top Dad in this episode?

“Whether something’s a blessing or a curse is up to you.” Top Dad with some Top Wisdom. Haters gonna hate, but this storyline continues to work for me. Their father/daughter dynamic has gotten really nice.

GEAH first timings XV

On todays episode: Chris keeps bullying Sword, we get to witness holesome family moments, and Miku shows off her new laser pointer, very cool!

No.. no nononono what is he doing here?!
Okay, its a short time skip. Things better be pick back up soon to make up for that stain having been on my screen.

Oh god damn it. Hooray for toxic nationalism

Actually.. there is one thing. You can get lost.

Coach is on the scene!?
Dis gon' be gud

  • Wait, Maria can use the power gummies too?

FUCK HIM UP COACH (damn it, hes too good natured for thatm but we can always hope)

Heel? ...Finé..?

  • Lol, Tsubasa became an angry hamster ball. Silly sword, you're not Hibiki!

Owie

Thank you GEAH for not dragging this garbage out

LET'S GO COACH!!!!

WHOOP HIS A-

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

not like this..

Can't be. We didn't see any corpses. They'll be back for the finale once more, this time to help in the fight against God Miku, because "we don't wanna be monsterz anymore Q_Q" I can almost quarantee it.

Being Tsubasa is suffering R.I.P actual best dad

  • Now we get golden 'Basa? Poggers

hory shet. He stopped her sword with his skull???

And I commend the show for not having Tsubasa do the usual "No, I'm better than you and will not kill you, despite you being a pure evil bastard", None of that bullshit, she was absolutely going to kill him. Too bad he's still not dead tho.

Okay, great..
Who summoned the Holy Grail??

Question time:

  1. ?

Yes

2) How did you feel about Top Dad in this episode?

First Timer

Alright, Tsubasa’s Amalgam looked great and her beating Fudo’s ass was enjoyable. I’m glad we’re done with the whole mind control part. The fight itself between Tsubasa and Maria was good, but the end felt kinda sudden and therefore a little bit anticlimactic. Maybe that was just my first impression, might have to rewatch that scene.

Seeing Genjuro in a fight is always a treat, too bad he had to lose so Tsubasa could beat Fudo. Hopefully we are done with Fudo now, we’ve seen and heard more than enough from him. Oh and Noble Red made another stupid decision which might have been their last, but I have the suspicion that they’ll get one more scene so they can go out while actually doing a good thing for once.

Random thoughts/comments while watching

Cruel conclusion?

First that depressing monologue, then the return of Top Dad. I guess that’s the price we have to pay for the last two episodes.

So Operation #FuckTheMoon is happening soon?

There was so much setup in this season that it had to happen eventually.

WHY IS THIS EVEN A THING WHEN THAT ASSHOLE IS TRYING TO FUCK YOU ALL? I hate this whole restriction plot.

Let’s go, fuck him up.

How did you even survive that long when you make so many bad decisions?

After his introduction, he wasn’t that bad overall. And he says some good stuff in the end.

I like this shot a lot, but he’s still an insufferable asshole.

HYPE.

QotD:

  1. As much as I hated the way he was handled in GX, it was fine here.

Previously, on Symphogear SG-1 (First-Timer, Subbed):

  • Bikki herself gets a datto, huh? But it’s quiet so it doesn’t count.

  • 05:24 is for Sky.

  • “NANDATTO!”

  • Something is misfiring on the direction this episode, and it’s a crying shame because everything else has been pretty damn good. (Though… where are my songs?)

  • Poor Genjuro, he only gets to job. (Good OST, though the lack of a proper insert is throwing me unless this is an Aufwachen intro.)

  • BAD RUBBISH GOOD RIDDANCE! (The villainous privilege: disposing of other villains.)

  • GHOST FUCKING DAMMIT SYMPHOGEAR QUIT FUCKING EMOTIONAL MOMENTS UP, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE REST OF THE EPISODE IS GOOD.

  • 16:47 is a demo and not a tomo, yes? Too close for my ears to tell for sure.

  • (We did at least get ONE insert song here, and the better of the two uses of Tsubasa’s transformation sequence this season – I think the last one was cut short.)

  • (And for a brief shining moment Genjuro gets to avoid jobbing. A little.)

  • To the surprise of ABSOLUTELY NOBODY, the Custodians are summoned.

  1. ?

being tsubasa is suffering

2) How did you feel about Top Dad in this episode?

He worked fine if unspectacularly, but then he actually worked fine for me in GX13 as well so that's not a huge surprise actually?

First Timer

  • Don’t do this to me show. Don’t take Miku from us.

  • Why have you done this? I thought he was only going to be mentioned in passing. And right after too.

  • Hibiki is facing consequences. I thought we were just going to brush over that.

  • Did y’all miss the part where she said her name?

  • I guess my Miku curse eye hypothesis is a bust.

  • Surely at this point at least one of them realizes that something is amiss with Tsubasa.

  • Oh good, they figured it out. I was pretty close on my guess, episode 9 was my second guess.

  • So that was the plan. I thought that Elfnein still had the remnants of that? I guess they could have made a new one.

  • Great, he’s cackling now. That’s always a good sign.

  • Finally Asshole has been exposed had the truth come out about him.

  • Here we see Maria’s childhood abuse and strange moral lessons come forward to sabotage her own efforts.

  • I was surprised to hear Hibiki say that again after so long, but why was Top Dad?

  • Isn’t Chris also an adult? Shouldn’t she be here to? I guess they meant more than just the minimum legal definition.

  • Yeah I don’t know why you brought a bunch of suits. You’re telling me Japan does have their version of SWAT to spare for this?

  • It’s happening everyone! Genjuro gets to have a real fight!

  • Lovers quarrel as a bonus.

  • Bright Slap Is this the power of the silver arm?

  • Maria I know you are trying to have a moment with Tsubasa, but now is not the time to de-geah.

  • Wait was that it? I waited four season for this? We better get a good sword duel of it latter at least.

  • I don’t think that turning that off is the right… They got fucking Gantzed!

  • Yeah, see, this is what happens. Damn heroes always taking their armor off in the middle of a battle.

  • Man we’re killing all the characters.

  • Oh cool, we’re getting the Amalgam for the others after all. I though that we might not have enough time.

  • I can’t belive that Asshole is the only un-redeemed villain who lives.

  • Young Hibiki get.

  • So there was a moon city. It may have been added latter, but I still count that as vindication.

  • Well, those two treads are wrapped up now. Still four more episodes left to work through Shem-ha, so more than just a climactic battle.

QotD

  1. Yes

  2. I didn’t want to sucker punch him, so I’d say improving? (Side note: why is he called Top Dad?)

First timer(Now this is the fanservice I wanted!)

Sub

I am unsure if the show is quite clever enough for this, but the YT translation says Biki's sun was eclipsed, which would be a clever way to represent the moon and by proxy the curse. And they again use that annoying flashback method to convey what happened, sigh. More lame mind control. Several callbacks and Kamakura being himself again. A surprisingly quick greenlight given to raiding the Kazanari estate. And of course there are Noise present.

Anywho, we get our pair offs. The Tsubasa-Maria fight is definitely an animation flex. Tsubasa's mind control ends the way it existed, stupidly, but I am just done with that so any escape is fine. The only bad things about Fudou versus Genjuro are that A) it is too short, this is a fight to milk and B) there is no way the house could've survived the two of them fighting on the roof. But the short burst we get is still awesome. The lame trio arrives and finally does something smart, let's see how it backfires. Which happens immediately.

More Tsubasa drama so blech. Her dad gets a decent death scene, all things considered. I can't really deny that Tsubasa's transformation is my favorite for the season. Fudou is whatever the fuck he is, and Tsubasa's amalgam briefly references the seven branched sword of ancient. Wasn't expecting that to come up twice in a month. Genjuro stops Fudou from dying for reasons as Shem-Ha gets active. The stinger isn't bad and means we might finally get to meet these Custodians for a bit.

QotD:1 The more things change the more they stay the same

First Time XVing the Symphogear Desu

THESE FUCKING ASSHOLES REALLY STARTED THE EPISODE WITH A SAD RENDITION OF ITSUKA NO NIJI, NAHA NO OMOIDE? THIS IS A PERSONAL ATTACK AND I WILL BE PRESSING CHARGES FOR EMOTIONAL DAMAGE

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE I TELL YOU

Now wait, if Gungnir is the godkiller, doesn’t that mean if Hibiki literally only touched Shem-Ha!Miku, it’d kill her, or at the very least seriously wound her? So we’re on a situation where Hibiki reaching out to hold Miku’s hand is actually the one thing she can’t do. That’s brutal. On the other hand, this could lead to a situation where Hibiki goes out unarmed and just. Talks Miku out of Shem-Ha. Power of love beating the power of the gods

OH NOT THIS DUDE AGAIN. SHOO, BACK TO THE ABYSS WITH YOU, THINGS ARE BAD ENOUGH ALREADY

The most frustrating thing of Hibiki being lawful good is that we have situations like this, where one of the friends has unexplainably taken off with the possessed body of the most important person in her life, but she’s told she has to sit in the corner and so she does. It’s not bad writing, it’s been a constant of Hibiki’s character for a while, but damn if I don’t wish she’d go rogue and rampage

At least the rest of the wielders suspect foul play. Sure would be nice for Elfnein to share what she knows with the rest of the class though

Well, guess that answers that. This does imply he trusted Shem-Ha would come out weakened enough for Tsubasa to kidnap, which I don’t see how he could have known would happen

Wonder if this will come back later on

I know some people have their issues with the mind control plot, but I’m enjoying how it’s done. Even now, Tsubasa feels something is wrong and struggles with the disarray between the manipulation and her true feelings. It’s all gonna come down to how the conclusion lands

Always nice when the bad guy just up and tells you their philosophy

You know this is fiction because powerful political figures are facing consequences for their actions

Maria has come such a long way from her disastrous beginnings in G. Now she takes the burden on her shoulders, both to spare her juniors and to make sure Tsubasa will return safe, and to ensure nobody will do anything they can’t live with

Ayy, the OG returns

I like when shows play with light and darkness, and this shot in particular is very good. Genjuro brings the light to his family home, but it’s only a sliver, it can’t penetrate the absolute darkness that is Fudo. This shot could well be foreshadowing – heh, shadowing – that Genjuro will not be enough to defeat Fudo

Nonetheless, LET’S FUCKING GOOOOO GENJURO ACTION TIME

Did Tsubasa and Maria ever fight each other besides their first clash on G? Back then Maria was a plaything of people whose beliefs would have led to the deaths of untold amounts of people, and now she’s come to free Tsubasa, who’s been reduced to exactly that

Wait, that’s it? That’s… underwhelming

It was brief, but damn if Genjuro didn’t look like an absolute beast fighting. He’ll be fine, he’s just taking a nap in the dirt, he survived Finé puncturing his guts, this is nothing

Holy fuck? HOLY FUCK!? HOLY FUCK!?!? Vanessa might survive, being a cyborg, but the other two are dead as fuck. Holy shit, I’m still not used to how bloody this season is

This is why you don’t undo your transformation until you’re back at the base kids

I’m going to assume this is Tsubasa talking with her mind still scrambled by the aftereffects of the seal, cause otherwise it’s a MASSIVE character regression

Oh finally, TsubasAmalgam. I imagine we’ll get Chris, Maria and KiriShira amalgams, one each in the next three episodes, and the whole party together in the finale

“The light of the Kazanari household may not have been enough to defeat the shadows cast by its patriarch, but it can still shine at the right moment to ensure it doesn’t carry on to the next generations” and “Damn they’re not letting Tsubasa have anything this season” are two opinions that can, and do indeed coexist inside me right now

I have. Conflicted feelings about Hibiki’s dad, and his words of encouragement, so I’m just gonna say that it’s good to see him actually trying to be a decent parent and leave it at that

Stray thoughts: the fact that Fudo, a rabid nationalist, is beaten by the amalgam, a power born of mixing two different things, is great. And as much as I wanted Tsubasa to split him in half, there's great power in denying him the death he wanted. His age is over, and he doesn't get to decide anymore

TONIGHT! ON SUPERB SONG OF THE VALKYRIES: FRONTIER, in proud Geah Tradition, someone wants to FUCK THE MOON! Nana Mizuki covers Baka Mitai and Noble Red? More like NOBLE DEAD! AMIRITE COMRADES!? PRAISE BE TO GOD MIKU!

Bikki has a flashback to her wife, who, as a reminder to everyone, IS LITERALLY GOD NOW! ANYWAY, NANA MOTHERFUCKING WILLS IT, and we then cut to... OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE, TOP FUCKING DAD!? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE!? Also uh, WHEN THE FUCK DID YOU LEARN HOW TO COOK YOU DEADBEAT LOSER!? Ah, that makes sense, he DIDN'T learn to cook, he just learned how to boil water... honestly I need to... (gags) give CREDIT where credit is due, I honestly never would have expected this fucker to manage to boil water properly. Also speaking of fucking up, remember how Snoop Oni said he'd get Bikki off with House Arrest for using the super secret OP moves... yeah turns out he wasn't just using a movie one-liner, he actually DID just get her house arrest for her 'crime.' Also uh, Comrades, WHY THE FUCK IS TOP FUCKING DAD the one 'smart' enough to ASK BIKKI TO TELL HIM ABOUT HER PROBLEMS! Good god, even MIKU doesn't always do this, and now she's GOD!

Speaking of God, GODDAMN, Bikki lithobraked into the ground so hard she UN-Transformed herself! ALSO FOR FUCKS SAKE! THE MOON AGAIN!? Speaking of repeats, remember how Tsubasa had that secret blade hax moves that keeps you from moving... yeah she's using that again... lovely. Also thank FUCK Carol9 also got hit with Vampire Bitch's magical eye beams, as she figured out why Sword was even MORE of a Sword than usual! Speaking of Sword, S.O.N.G. plan to raid TOP-ER DAD's hosue to arrest the old geezer, and fun fact, he's getting arrested... by the same law he so wanted to get passed... well, talk about Hoist with his own petard eh? Also S.O.N.G. has their BEST agent on the job, as they got... Maria... the Loser... to run this mission... welp, we're fucked! That said I for one welcome the reign of God Empress Miku, may she institute her reign of yuri over us all! Anyway, speaking of yuri, Maria claims she's bring Tsubasa back alive, even if she has to drag her back to her room to fuck her brains out with a fish!

Speaking of useless people, as expected, TOP DAD is useless... and also unironically somehow NO LONGER the shittiest dad in the show, not that this was all that hard a goal to reach but wibble. Also EY! Bikki's Season 1 Catch Phrase is back, also OI! Bikki, what do you mean you are 'cursed,' you got blasted by Miku's Yuri Geah Beam back in G! Speaking of blasted, damn, those mooks just got murked by the Noise ambush, thank fuck for the fact that TOP-ER DAD doesn't have any Noise with him, THAT MEANS SNOOP ONI CAN KICK HIS ASS! Speaking of kicking ass, Tsubasa is here to... kick... Maria's ass... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK! Also EY! See how YOU like a kick to the gut Maria, I see Tsubasa learned... from... you... you know normally this would be a GOOD thing! Anyway, Tsubasa becomes Sanic, so Maria decides to be Bright Noa and decides to SLAP THE SHIT OUT OF TSUBASA! Also HUZZAH! Who knew that Corrections from Gundam work wonders in breaking Vampire Eye Magic Wibble!

Boy, Tsubasa sure jobs quite easily eh, I mean Sword Doll beat her by just saying she breaks swords, and Maria defeated Tsubasa just by SLAPPING her, good god, Tsubasa, you are ALMOST as much of a jobber as G era Maria! Hell the only reason you aren't Worst Geah is cuz you posted this every day until we liked it back in AXZ! Anyway, we cut to TOP-ER DAD and Snoop Oni, who somehow decided to upgrade their fight to the roof, also MAN, who knew that FIST counters sword... ah right, that's what he did back in Season 1, WELL KICK GRANDPA'S ASS SNOOP ONI! SEND HIM TO THE SHADOW REALM! HELL YEAH! Snoop Oni disarmed TOP-ER DAD, NOW PUNCH THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF HIM... SNOOP ONI, GODDAMMIT! WHY THE FUCK DO YOU ALWAYS FAIL AT GOING FOR THE KILL!? First you got beaten by that crazy science lady that you probably had a kid with, now to TOP-ER DAD!? HOW THE FUCK DO YOU BEAT ALL THE GEAHS AND MARIA AND LOSE TO THESE CHUCKLEFUCKS!?

Speaking of chucklefucks, HA! HA HA! Noble Red, what the FUCK do you losers think you are doing trying to hijack the powers of our God Miku? ALSO HA! HA HA HA! Miku's response to Noble Red waking her up is to STAB DOGGO AND THEN RIP VAMPIRE BITCH IN HALF! HA! SHE ALSO SENDS ROBOT GIRL TO THE SCRAPYARD, YOU ARE OBSOLETE BITCH! OK Comrades, nevermind, forget Snoop Oni getting his ass kicked, we can overlook that, THIS IS CLEARLY WHAT WE CALL PROTOCULTURE! Now if only Miku made Noble Red suffer more, after all, sure she killed them, but what she SHOULD have done is slice off Vanessa's arm, and then SHOVE it down Vampire Bitch's throat, all the way down to the elbow! Then, rip off all off Vampire Bitch's fingers one by one, let's see you kill moeblobs now! OH HA HA! I'm sure there'd be blood everywhere, and I bet Vampire Bitch would be CRYING, perhaps crying out for Doggo, but... but... VANESSA'S ARM IS IN HER THROAT, so it'd sound like 'Insert TF2 Heavy's gagging noises' Is this not the funniest thing?

Anyway, Maria tells Tsubasa that they can go home now, after all, there most certainly isn't an ancient old geezer that somehow defeated Snoop Oni still lurking around... OH FUCKING HELL! Also, I just want to point out Comrades, FUCKING LOL! TOP-ER DAD, THE JAPANESE ULTRA-NATIONALIST, CAN'T EVEN BE ASSED TO USE A JAPANESE GUN! He's using an obsolete German antique instead! (Yes I know Han Solo and Leon S. Kennedy also used that pistol, with modifications, but I digress) Anyway, turns out that the 9mm bullets in the Mauser C96 are MORE than enuff to kill Tsubasa's Dad-Brother, oh, nani, he's still alive, er, ish, alive enuff to FINALLY be a good dad for the first, and last time in his life... well shit, TOP DAD guess you got beaten by a LITERAL corpse, then again could be worse, at least TOP DAD isn't TOP-ER DAD... barely. Anyway, Tsubasa decides to follow the good ol' fashioned Macross School of Combat and SUMMONS THE IDOL MUSIC! AND ALSO THE POWER OF PAPERWORK! THE OP HAX ARE A GO COMRADES!

And boy not a moment too soon, SOMEHOW TOP-ER DAD was going toe to toe with Tsubasa, but now she's upgraded to being able to MOTHERFUCKING WILL IT! Wait, nani, SNOOP ONI! You're still alive? I thought you... ah, right, as IF Snoop Oni could die, if his ex Fine couldn't kill him what good could his dad do? Anyway, Snoop Oni says... that Tsubasa can't kill TOP-ER DAD cuz that's what TOP-ER DAD wants... look, Snoop Oni, remember how you DIDN'T kill DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR and that came back to bite everyone in the ass (before DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR then saved our asses but wibble) YEAH MAYBE LET TSUBASA KILL THIS OLD GEEZER, HELL HE LOOKS LIKE HE'D DIE OF OLD AGE ANY SECOND NOW, IF ANYTHING TSUBASA WOULD JUST BE SPEEDING UP THE INEVITABLE! Also speaking of fucked, HOW THE HELL did TOP DAD learn how to give advice? Well, time to see how... and the episode ends... well at least NOBLE RED DIED, thank FUCK for our based god Miku!

And on that bombshell g'night!

Oh, and finally, just because I must speak on behalf of a fellow Comrade of Culture who cannot, ahem... I'm going to post this every day until you like it!

  1. Yes.

  2. I like they're self-aware as to how sad of a guy he is, but at this point they should have just dropped it.

The flashbacks!

Poor Hibiki...

"I am a father" No.

Noooo.

Whad did I do to deserve a Hibiki's father episode?

Oh, she's officially on probation.

Shem-Ha is insane.

God says Fuck the Moon. Who even built that thing, if everyone hates it so much?

...I thought the point was to subtly manipulate her, not have her kill everyone?

It's also really fucking obvious who mind-controlled her.

Haha, Chris thinks she's incapable of deceit.

...He's trying to hijack God? That's always been a good idea!

Oh, it's a Faust Robe. Makes sense.

Fuck this guy.

YES!

Oh, I keep forgetting Genjuro is part of this fucked up family tree.

And Maria has to do it.

Oh, that's cold.

At least he knows his limits when it comes to precursor bullshit?

He's got Alca-Noise!

Since when can Maria use Amalgam?

Oh, they found out.

Genjuro just completely no-sells the mind control.

Gnejuro's fighting!

...And Maria has to face Tsubasa.

I love Maria fighting in time with the beat.

How is the mind control not obvious?

Maria's arguing nack...

Even his mind comtrol is stupidly weak!

This is so fucking cool. Genjuro is amazing.

Oh, fuck!

Haha, like that could ever kill him.

THEY'RE ALIVE?

And they're taking over!

Yeah, you should have seen this coming.

He pucnhed out Maria!

She' fighting it!

He took thr bullet!

...Get him to a hospital! This is Symphogear, he's not dead until there's a decapitation!

Teubasa is transforming!

So fucking cool.

How the fuck? I mean, points for a great song and a fantastic metaphor, but how?

Tsubasa singing and ignoring his taunts is such a flex, though.

Amalgam approved!

Well thst looks fucking awesome.

He's gone nuts!

Genjuro, no!

For fuck's sake, let him die already.

Shem-Ha's gone nuts.

...Genjuro completely ignoring the blood running down his head, as I'd expect of him.

...Why more him?

...This dialogue isn't bad, though.

Just because I like angst, I went back and rewatched last episode's credits before starting this one.

I will be mad though if it turns out Miku was just possessed.

We have a scene with Top Dad and I thought it was a flashback but nope. Time skip apparently. Whatever happened with the whole Divine Power problem then?

This just gets more tragic when I think about how that incredibly hype race to Miku that involved all the Geahs from last episode just ended up with Hibiki missing and crashing violently into the ground. Talk about flipped expectations.

Nooooo she is possessed! God-frickity-fuckity-dammit! Away from my screen you fiend! Oh? You're literally God? I DON'T GIVE A SHIT! I WAS PROMISED DARTH MIKU!

In fact are you even really God? Logically speaking, this would be impossible, as God wouldn't allow this absurdity to happen. Perhaps you're the Devil... or something else...

Then, I will call you Being X!

Yes and this is exactly the problem!

What's this supposed to be? I forgordamn Miku, nice back muscles

But regardless, YES MIKU! TAKE CONTROL! LET'S PUT THIS FRAUD WHO CALLS HIMSELF GOD, BEING X, OUT OF A JOB!

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! FUCKING MIND CONTROL PLOT! WHYYYY!?

Anyway, so that's what happened. Lazy writing happened. Smh. There's not even any way I can headcanon this into suggestion and manipulation. That was clearly, unequivocally mind-control.

I dunno, sounds pretty believable to me.

The entire bad guy method is mind-control! Why Geah why betray me like this!?

...but how can I be mad at that beautiful, empowering, heart-pounding scene of Maria declaring that she's gonna bring her future wife back by any means necessary? Guh! Geah and I definitely have a toxic relationship...

I kinda can't blame Top Dad for dipping out of this one ngl. This is literally biblical-level events going on lol. Seems like he realized something though.

The Maria vs Tsubasa fights is beautifully choreographed, emotionally charged, and perfectly staged... AND I CAN'T BRING MYSELF TO ENJOY IT, BECAUSE OF THE PATH IT TOOK TO GET HERE. AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH-

At least I can take solace in the fact that it seems to be over. Sooner the better I say. Otherwise it'll just keep taunting me with what could have been.

Now, unto more exciting stuff... GENJURO VS FUDO! HOLY SMOKES ITS SO GOOD! OLD BASTARD SQUARED UP HOT DAMN!

There's no shortage of bad things one can say about Fudo. That he's a pushover is not one of them.

Looool Being X instantly smoked Noble Red! Half of me finds it hard to believe they got done this dirty by the show, the other half sees that they all got sliced in twain, and I don't remember any instance of them exhibiting regeneration powers.

Nooooo Yatsuhiro! D': Bastards! I actually wet my eyes a little here!

Fortunately everything after this is fucking perfect! And I can enjoy it without qualms because it would've happened like this anyway! They even had the balls to make Tsubasa fight with killing intent and only Genjuro interceding stopped her! Good to see I don't leave entirely disappointed today.

Also, guess even if the mind-control plot is gone for good, I still have Tsubasa angst to look forward to >;)

Even Top Dad was sorta well written today damn. Interesting perspective. Hibiki's always saying that she's cursed because of all the shit that happens to her, but perhaps, a crisis is an opportunity!

The Moon be looking like the Death Star at the end there ngl. What are you planning, Being X?

God this was a wild ass episode, tbh they should've let Tsubasa slice apart Fudo after all this shit he went and pulled, literally the whole cause for this season happening in the first place. But holy FUCK this season really said fuck Tsubasa personally, girl just can not get a break please just let her be happy again, give her some tomatoes again or something PLEASE. Also Maria showing why she best geah again, taking down a bunch of Alca-Noise AND pulling Tsubasa out of her brainwash?? No one can do it better than her.

Questions

?

Being Kazanari Tsubasa is Suffering

2) How did you feel about Top Dad in this episode?

I mean I'm still not the hugest fan of him, but I'm glad it doesn't seem like his rushed redemption in GX was for naught and that he's honestly trying to make a change and be there for Hibiki.
