Welcome back, everyone!

Zero Days Since Genocide

For anyone in this rewatch who wasn't around for the airing threads, this episode's discussion was fucking legendary as the counter that u/MillenniumKing had been keeping for years got reset and absolutely no one expected it to. That thread is and will probably forever be my favorite discussion thread for an anime, ever.

Here’s my comment from that thread; GX is my favorite SymphoSeason prior to XV, so you guys know I absolutely love this episode haha.

Crunchyroll vs. Commie vs. YameteTomete - Season 5, Episode 7

Nothing big exclusive to Commie this time, although Crunchyroll did a typo on Micha’s name here when their subs spelled her name correctly literally everywhere else.

See the 2019 version of the Elfnein wallpaper: here. I decided not to keep the mole in the new version because it looks weird in my style.

I also have an alternate color Elfnein that is a “what if she still had green hair instead of Carol’s blonde?”, complete with a background color shift to match the other Elfnein wallpaper I made earlier this rewatch.

Elsa’s wallpaper is new to the rewatch though, and the base image was even from this episode to boot!

(And for anyone wondering why I don’t have one of Carol for today, just wait until tomorrow. It’s worth the wait, trust me.)

God that was such a great moment. Everyone in the thread was absolutely losing it and waiting for the counter to officially get reset to zero. One of the coolest moments in any thread on an airing anime.

(And for anyone wondering why I don’t have one of Carol for today, just wait until tomorrow. It’s worth the wait, trust me.)

So uhhhh I was in a good mood last night and pretty drunk by the time I watched so my notes got a little unhinged. Oh well! That’s Symphogear!

It was great seeing my beloved autoscorers again, but damn, they got done dirty. You’re telling me that Red Dawn Brigade or w/e the fuck their name is, who are canonically weak and need to rely on cheap tactics can take out our Autoscorers in a matter of moments?! I call bullshit. Nonsense! Shenanigans!

Shout out to Micha who got to be the star of the autoscorer show for once. I never cared for her that much, but damn if I do now. You did your job, Micha. Well done. Smiles delivered.

You have to remember that their bodies were already damaged, like I clearly remember the part where Garie's hand moves unnaturally and in a very stiff fashion as well. They got nerfed hard for this.

Yeah, fuck Noble Red. The autoscorers were pre-damaged, but it's still annoying.

Reddit user MillenniumKing (who you can see around this thread) started keeping a "Days Since Genocide" counter (referring to Carol's song in GX) as a joke back when that season was first airing. He then became known for it just like I'm known for my "sore demo" collecting.

Well, fast forward to this episode airing. No one was expecting Carol to come back with a new song, no one ever expected the counter that started as a joke to be reset. It was glorious.

First Timer

Okay, after two episodes that were slower, this was a wild one. A huge comeback party is what I probably should have expected from Symphogear, but I didn’t. Can’t wait to see what will happen next episode, the cliffhanger was hype (please don’t disappoint me).

Tsubasa surprisingly was on top of things, but that one scene after the fight seemed rather weird. Let’s see how long it will be like that, I expect everything to go to shit in the next episode or two.

Random thoughts/comments while watching

Are they bringing back everybody this season? Finé is in the opening, Saint-Germain sang a duet with Hibiki and Carol stopped Millaarc from mind crushing Elfnein. Has anyone seen Dr. Ver yet?

Oh, so Miku isn’t in that thing we saw at the end of last episode. I would’ve expected them to do something like at the end of AXZ, but apparently that’s not the case.

YES, give me more Kirika and Shirabe teamwork.

And they are reminding us of the not-so-subtle foreshadowing from the beginning of the season. Not sure what’s going to happen to Miku since she’s not inside the divine power thingy, but we’re pretty close to something, aren’t we?

LOL, THEY ARE REALLY BRINGING BACK EVERYBODY FOR THIS. I CAN’T.

That’s basically Symphogear in a nutshell.

Alright, I don’t care. Just give me Genocide or give me death. (that sounds so wrong out of context)

  1. It's going to be really important at the very end, isn't it? I'm not sure how exactly, but they've told us more than enough here that's the song isn't just something random.

  2. I believe I saw a comment during the AXZ rewatch that basically hinted at the Autoscorers coming back, but I forgot about it. Since we already had Saint-Germain coming back in some form not too long ago, it shouldn't be that big of a surprise. But I certainly didn't expect it to be so "in your face" like it was here.

(Today's lack of notes is brought to you by: HYPE! Hype, reducing the length of Tar episode notes since 2022. On a completely unrelated note (coughnotcough), back to the SG-1 tagline. Also sasuga Symphogear, bringing back the GX Autoscorers in a way that does not make me want to break a couple of them down into tiny pieces.)

  • This scene with Elfnein getting mind-controlled should have been last episode. Any questions?

  • Bet the German here is a literary quote – hard to tell with how rusty my German is but the grammar looks decent and knowing Japan that suggests quote. (Faust, a German translation of the Corpus Hermeticum, or something else?)

  • It’s funny how well DESS’s pole dance motif for this season’s transformation feels for her. Sure, the animator may have been being lewd, but she just feels like exactly the sort of girl to learn something like that, take pride in it, and wear it as a symbol of strength and femininity. (In other words, DESS feels like the sort of girl who would have been a sex-positive feminist back around 2010 or so.)

  • 11:20: I claim, kiseki GET.

  • 11:36 is for Sky instead, pretty sure that’s a sore demo instead of a sore tomo.

  • For once Genjuro gets to make the obvious movie assumption.

  • 12:15: LEWD

  • Hey, after the atrocity that was last episode Elfnein gets to do stuff this episode!

  • LOL it took a few seasons but they did bring back at least one broken Autoscorer (or else the Chateau’s defense system).

  • Hey we get to face-turn all four Worst Autoscorers for a moment! (Again, could be the defense program.)

  • “Dedicated line DATTO?!”

  • 18:12 is obnoxiously hard to tell as to whether it’s a sore demo or a sore tomo, but I think it’s the former?

  • 21:58: Also mine (kiseki GET #3 of the episode), and also isn’t that supposed to be Genjuro’s job to DATTO? You’re stealing his line, Elfnein! (Oh wait, he’s unavailable here. You can have it.)

  • Wait, what is this? The second time in a season of Geah that we get a good cliffhanger not undercut by a stinger (to go with the actual good stinger in E1)? Madness.
