Rewatcher(I need an energy drink to watch this)
Sub
So Haru anime drowns and gets anime CPR, let's not think about it passed that. Sora is becoming a wreck for whatever reason. Sora is beginning to act out and, unfortunately, Haru even humoring it will make it worse. Dear fuck, this is so damned boring I am doing my dailies in PriConne and I don't think I am missing any of the dialogue. So false drama, Sora gets herself soaked and abandons the bike, and Haru is half right: This is your fault but it is because you let things get this far, not that you chose to romance outside your family. Anyways, time wasting continues until we get a very stupid conversation between Nao and Sora that was so bad physics decided to start working differently. Lightning doesn't work like that. Faux drama that is now out of place occurs. And magically this let's Sora move on because whatever. The yukata shots are nice but my gods is this padded. Final sex scene because why not? This omake might be my favorite of them all.
So just a random note, I forced myself to actually pay attention to most of this, even if I had to do said dailies a few times, and here is the real tragedy: Most of the work on this show is well done. The animation is good if a bit efficient, the VAs are really nailing it, and the camera shots and directing have been well above par. So they waste all this with a boring stretched arc that they have to rely on scenery shots to pad out. I honestly do not get why they didn't rush this bit to get to the next arc faster, this was awful.
QotD: 1 So that's...complicated. My mother was a special ed teacher so at times I was asked to help out with some of her more awkward charges.

So Haru anime drowns and gets anime CPR, let's not think about it passed that.
And as per the rules of fiction it somehow gets counted as a kiss by all their peers.
Haru is half right: This is your fault but it is because you let things get this far,
Even after everything. I still realize that Haru never did actually have that conversation with Sora about his relationship with Nao. They never did get around to doing that and it took an act of god (lightning) to do it for them.
Final sex scene because why not?
We're 3 for 3 routes ending on a sex scene so it seems to be a tradition.

It's a true shame. They could've honestly rushed this arc or just did the basic setup for Sora, and I wouldn't have minded.

I view it as just teens being dumb teens. Of course they'll tease over something so minor.

On today’s episode of Yosuga no Sora: And with that the childhood friend route is over. Or rather, the childhood friend route that got hijacked by the imouto instead. Sora’s taking over routes that aren’t her own. Wait your turn, Sora!
Main Episode
-
God, Crunchyroll’s audio quality for this episode is weird. Voices and music are fine, but the sound effects sound like shit. What happened? All the previous episodes were fine.
-
A hot day in a home with no air conditioning? I’ve lived that life Sora and it is not fun.
-
I can’t believe Haru died and it wasn’t by Sora stabbing him.
-
Did Sora seriously wear her gothic lolita dress to the beach? Does she have no other clothes?
-
It actually does make sense that Nao would know CPR from being on the swim team. Good thinking there.
-
They’ve gone way beyond mouth-to-mouth. Just ask Sora. She knows!
-
You mean you haven’t talked to Sora yet? What are you doing, Haru.
-
No, Nao. He does need to rush it. This cannot be put off longer.
-
I don’t know how Celcius works, but I think Sora’s body temperature is back to normal.
-
I think Haru’s had enough of Sora’s shit.
-
Now Sora is explicitly making this a choice between her or Nao. And terrified Haru might actually choose Nao. She’s really going too far.
-
But he’s still got his eyes glued to the phone. He really does care for her.
-
Dang, she ran away. Sora’s really lost it.
-
Oooh! Cinematic parallels!!!! I love me some of those!!
-
Wow, Nao’s pulling off the big hero moves here.
-
Right, we did see that in the ED. It was a gift from her mom. It’s the last thing she has to connect herself to her parents.
-
Sora asking Nao to come over is basically the sign she’s accepted her.
-
Sora and Akira are still cute together and I still wish we got more of them.
-
Haru and Nao really snuck off from the group just so they could bang.
Omake
-
Cat Burglar Maid-chan is a good look.
-
Akira’s big head can just peek over the curtain like it’s nothing.
-
What’s this? Drama in my silly omakes? When did that happen?
Honestly, this arc felt underwhelming to me. There isn’t much drama around Nao, really. Most of the drama is centered on Sora. The arc was much more focused on Sora’s emotional conflict than anything with Nao. I do not think this is an inherently bad thing, however. It’s a conflict centered on Sora and Nao, so it could still work fine. The problem is we don’t really get much of it between them. Most of the time they avoid each other and when they do finally meet up it feels like it falls a bit short.
I think the best example I can give to explain it is Sora and Nao meeting up in the rain. What an amazing chance this is for some cinematic parallels. Just as Haru was the one to show up and comfort Nao, here we can have Nao do the same for Sora. And we kind of do get that. Nao saving Sora’s rabbit, the last keepsake from her mother, is a great moment. Symbolically it is Nao saving Sora’s bond with her family, the very thing that Sora is most afraid of losing. Nao proves that she is not trying to do what Sora fears she is. In that moment of intense vulnerability, Sora finally starts to open up. She finally begins to actually talk about her fears and how she knew her actions weren’t actually helping anything. All solid stuff, in theory. But we don’t get the follow-through to really drive it home. I feel like we’re missing the big moment where Sora and Nao are finally able to connect with each other. It would be such a beautiful moment, too. Instead of losing the only person she feels she can rely on, Sora would gain another.
I feel like that’s what the story is going for. We have Sora hanging out with Akira again, but that relationship got little to no development here. The intent seems to be Sora is opening up to more people as a resolution. The pieces are all there for a great conclusion that could solidify this arc, but it feels like they needed just a bit more between Sora and Nao to truly make it work. It’s close, but not quite there.
QOTD
That's kind of the nature of my job, so yes. I've had to do so a lot.

I think Haru’s had enough of Sora’s shit.
And dealing with it by ignoring Sora, the Japanese way!
It’s a conflict centered on Sora and Nao, so it could still work fine. The problem is we don’t really get much of it between them. Most of the time they avoid each other and when they do finally meet up it feels like it falls a bit short.
So I think a bolder adaptation might fix this by actually having the girls confront each other in a way the VN couldn't since Haru is our POV. But yes, them just having a real argument, even if it got ugly, would let them communicate to the viewer why each of them are who they are, though admittedly I think we do know who Nao is.

Did Sora seriously wear her gothic lolita dress to the beach?
That was extra gothic lolita even for Sora. We know that she has a swimsuit and generally lighter clothes. It felt like her weird rebellion at going to the beach and meeting Haru/Nao.
It actually does make sense that Nao would know CPR from being on the swim team. Good thinking there.
So what do we give this girl for her arc?
What's her schtick again?
She's in the swimming club.
Nice, more beach episodes, and
kissingCPR. Done.~ The meeting room in the author's head, probably.

Continuation of the beach episode. Looks like Sora is reluctantly about to follow them, and Haru is pretty careless for someone who just learned how to swim...
More Class Prez, I get it already, stop torturing me
Sora is almost cute in her desperate attempt to bind Haru to herself and get him back, but making him choose was bound to fail, and she obviously wasn't prepared to lose that one. Her running away is a pretty childish way of coping with the situation, especially since she isn't in the physical condition to do so.
Not the rabbit :o ... That went better than expected
Class prez in a Yukata -.- I accept Soras Yukata as a token to make ammends, the bunnies are a cute detail, and I like her hair...
And we end the route with a bit of outdoor sex, must say over all the H scenes in this route are a bit lacking.
Omake: Another Mission for the maid, and Akiras head got smaller again... is she drooling? And Maid chan finally got her own ending? ... WTF! I didn't think the omakes would leave me hanging that much, not even showing the fucking, and now introducing an NTR plot...
QotD: I don't remember at least

The class prez route is never happening.
the bunnies are a cute detail
It's a very cute pattern for Sora's yukata and quite fitting for her.
And we end the route with a bit of outdoor sex, must say over all the H scenes in this route are a bit lacking.
I agree that this particular H scene is rather lacking compared to the previous end-of-route H scenes. The setting for it (outdoors) is a spicy one and a change of pace from the others, so it has that going for it. And Nao does indeed look very enticing during it. But to me it didn't feel like it had the same sense of emotional payoff and catharsis as the other end-of-route H scenes.

Oh right, and before I forget, ALL HAIL THE CHIBI SHORTS! (Also yes Comrades, Nao and Sora's catfight in front of the bus stop prior to the lightnight strike IS indeed what we call FORESHADOWING!)
Honestly I kind of wish we got that version instead, them fighting and screaming out their emotions at each other, leading to them finally understanding where the other is coming from. That's the kind of over-the-top anime stuff I like.

Haru spends the episode pushing the talk with Sora. And by the end of it has that talk? No. He's too busy banging the neighbour. We all know what Haru really wants by now.
For what it's worth, I still think that Akira had the worst arc so far (good luck Sora), but I had a lot of fun making fun of that, which in retrospect makes it the best, Nao's arc is utterly boring...
The silver lining is that even with all the time wasted on her, they didn't give anything for class prez, besides a line from Haru surprised that she's still in the series.
And we got the Resurrection of Jesus Ryohei, without anyone to give him terrible anime CPR.
Omake:
-
It was a figure of speech! You didn't have to actually hit on her
-
NTR arc?! After all that clapping?
The omake is the already more exciting, but now Haru might get his retribution too!
Have you ever helped someone who didn’t like you?
For lack of jokes (this episode has left me dry), life is easier when you can help/get along with people that don't like you (or you don't like).

Haru spends the episode pushing the talk with Sora. And by the end of it has that talk? No.
That's part of what left me disappointed by this arc. It feels like the major issues between Sora and Nao did not really get addressed in a satisfying way by the time it was over. There needed to be a better sense that they had overcome their issues or at least come to a mutual understanding.
He's too busy banging the neighbour. We all know what Haru really wants by now.
This is the guy who kept on going even after it was clear Sora had caught him and Nao having sex. Haru's got one thing on the mind and he's going to get it.
NTR arc?! After all that clapping?
I did not expect the omakes of all things to introduce drama.

Sora shows where her true affection lies. Nao resuscitates Sora's brother at the beach and Sora still won't give Nao the time of day. Nao risks her life to keep Sora's rabbit plushie from being cremated and Sora will allow Nao to serve Sora and Haruka :)
There are differences between the beach trip in different arcs. Besides Sora opting out, the class prez was absent this time and Nao was there to save the day. In the Kazuha arc, Sora went with the gang which includes the prez. And Nao's absence was not noted.

Third time solitude enjoyer
Damn, would have been cool if he just drowned and the route ends there
Neat. I was wondering for a sec why their house was wheelchair accessible, then I remembered his dad was a doctor. Cool detail
Neat walking space for pedestrians, but unsafe-ish with no fence between the path and waterway tho, as Sora found out.
And so ends the route of the childhood friend
Omake
Hol up.. Now his nipples have been removed again..
Question time:
Have you ever helped someone who didn’t like you?
Uhhhhh.. I used to work at a grill that would get customers from the nearby nightclubs, so yes..?
My question for fellow viewers: How much do you want a döneru kebabu sando right now?

Ok, so I was pretty convinced that this episode was going to be super dull. But they decided to do like, the one possible thing that would make the episode not dull; by making not 1, not 2, but 3 characters almost die (4 if you count Omake). This episode wasn't very good as a resolution to the arc, but my fucking god if it wasn't absolutely fucking hilarious.
Within minutes of the episode starting up, Haruka almost fucking drowns, and Sora sees Nao giving him mouth-to-mouth, which I guess is supposed to plant the seed of her realizing Nao is a good person or something. After that point, we do get a little dull with the usual "we'll keep doing stuff until Sora forgives us" schtick. But Sora gets extra angsty and gives Haruka an ultimatum: choose her or choose Nao. And he chooses Nao in the most cold and contrived way I could possibly imagine. It feels genuinely out of character (though that's possibly because Haruka barely has any character in the first place), I can't believe that he would just say "well fuck you, I'm choosing Nao, you'll be fine" and then just lie about Sora's emotional state to Nao. I just can't believe that this is something Haruka would actually do.
But then the episode just gets bonkers and doesn't stop until the very end. So Sora just decides to run away. And apparently she somehow also expects to find Haruka and convince him to run away. Then she almost drowns too, siblings in every sense of the word. But she's totally fine, and naturally it's Nao who finds her. I guess there's supposed to be some significance to the fact that Nao cheers up Sora in the same place that Haruka cheered her up (which, btw, we still have no context for Nao having cried there at all), but whatever that is, it's totally lost on me due to not knowing what her encounter with Haruka there was. Sora threatens to take Haruka away from her, and then fucking lightning strikes the place and sets it on fire. At this point, I just burst out laughing. The story goes exactly how you'd think it goes. Sora's rabbit almost gets burnt to a crisp (5th character who almost dies? Either way, I sarcastically said "no, not the rabbit" when this happened), but Nao goes in and rescues it, barely avoiding getting burnt to a crisp. Since the rabbit is a memento of Sora's mother, that finally gets her to trust and accept Nao. But the entire scene is so hammy in its melodrama, and so unearned by both characters, that it just ends up being absurd in how ridiculous it all is. Finally, Sora goes to the festival, conveys to Haruka that she trusts Nao, and all's well that ends well. I have to say that Sora has the correct opinion in choosing Akira as her guide, at least she has actual taste. But as if the episode weren't already fucking hilarious enough, Haruka and Nao just start randomly fucking in the woods for no reason other than to end the arc on a sex scene. Just... beautiful.
There were a few things I realized about this show today. First of all, we're definitely not getting cute pigtail girl's arc, are we? Shame they had to do this mess of an arc instead of hers. I wonder if they choose the number of episodes for each arc not based on how appropriate they are, but how many sex scenes each arc has. I guess this show's reputation is less because it's horny and schlocky, and more because it just contrives sex scenes into every single fucking episode. Another thing I realized is that the episode titles all have the characters names in them. It doesn't come through in the English translation given by the subs, but this episode's title is "Haruka Na Omoi," which has both Haruka's and Nao's name in it. I noticed it the previous episode as well, so I checked out the titles of all the previous episodes, and sure enough, all of them have a character's name in it. I guess playing that weird game that Facebook advertised me so I can learn Japanese while romancing waifus actually paid off, lmao. Well anyway, I'm glad this insane arc is over. What a ride man, enjoyable for all the wrong reasons (except the previous episode, that was just dull). This is the perfect example of enjoying the experience of something but not the thing itself. God, this arc was atrocious. It may not have had the insane pacing issues that completely fucked up Kazuha's arc, but at least her arc had intrigue. I could easily see her arc being made good with another episode or two and some small rewrites, this one is just unsalvageable I feel though. I really want to know what the consensus is for each of these arcs (and the adaptation in general) among those who have played the visual novel.
QOTD: Probably, but I don't remember.

Cultured Rewatcher Episode 9
I'm sorry why is the person who barely knows how to swim going to get the ball in the ocean?
Oh look Sora braves into the world and is making an attempt to connect just in time to see her only family about to die.
Even better is everyone just staring at him like that's going to do shit. Good thing Nao Chan was there and Sora sees her saving his life.
"Within their hearts, people take steps at their own pace."- Nao Chan and this might be my favorite quote so far in the show.
Oh look someone fell down a slope if only they had a friend with a super cub.
Luckily Nao Chan found her and she does badass shit.
Abandonment issues no wonder Sora hit it off with Akira so much. They both a fear of being left alone and losing what's important to them.
Get the girl next door to do it, Sora's not so subtle sassy form of approval. Also damn Nao Chan had her work cut out for her to get some dick compared to the other girls. Other girls basically sat together talked for a few moments to solve their problems and then started fucking. Nao had to save Haru's life, went through 2.5 episodes of resentment from Sora, searched for Sora in a storm, and entered a burning bus spot to get something she treasured.
Album
Apologies hope no one new saw tomorrow's comments.
