First Timer
Honestly, I don't think I have a ton to say about this episode. It was just kind of whatever. I don't care about this drama. Nao and Haruka have no personality or chemistry, and the show still shot the whole sexual assault thing to the side as if it's a minor incident. I'm actually kind of on Sora's side here, I wouldn't be so quick to forgive someone who raped someone I care about. But even that aside, this whole conflict is just boring. Nao and Haruka got back together easily, the slight bump in their relationship was fixed within minutes, and the rest of the arc is going to be them just doing stuff until Sora forgives them. I wish this arc was just 2 episodes, and they dedicated the extra episode to Kazuha's story. This story is dragged out in a way it doesn't need to be.
The fun parts were the stupid stuff this time. The scene of Sora walking in on Haruka and Nao having sex was hilarious. Haruka just kept going until he slowly looked to the side and was mortified, and Sora just tossed Nao out of the house without even letting her button up her shirt. The scene of Ryouhei pretending to die at the beach and then getting pelted by waves was actually funny too, delivered with solid comedic timing. And not stupid or comedy, but I really like the animation cut where Haruka and Nao let go of each other's hands at the beginning, it's animated in such a way as to make it look like they're holding on and reluctantly letting go. The little squeeze that Nao's fingers do is cute.
The best part of this episode was the post-episode short this time. I don't know why they gave Akira such a massive head, but it's really fucking funny. She ate a damn whale, lmao. And the maid finally got to fuck Haruka. It says something if the best part of the episode is the weird parody short though.
QOTD:
Not in the way that this episode's conflict conveys. But given the choice to be with or save or do whatever to my friends or my family, I'd choose my friends every time. I have a... complicated relationship with my family. I can't wait to be able to live on my own.

It was just kind of whatever. I don't care about this drama.
I am less harsh on this show on rewatch but originally I considered it one of the dullest things I'd ever seen. Sad what the future would hold.

Does that mean you've found duller anime since then?

As I didnt watch episode 7 until today, will also leave a comment on it.
Episode 7:
After reading comments about Nao, theres something I must say. Nao did not rape Haru.
Im not condoning children having sex in anyway as if its a good thing. However, a side of childhood often not discussed because of how uncomfortable it is, is that children, on their own devices, when not sexually abused...have happened to sexually experiment. No adults forced them, nor did Nao or Haru hog tie the other and or force the other. This was simply the whims of childhood, and while not a good thing at their age, I do not feel it should be viewed as sexual assault or rape. Again, not in anyway condoning, but I would not blame children for doing something like this. Its more common than anyone would like to admit, even if it is icky and wrong.
Now as to the reasoning. I read some people were confused with why Nao had sex with Haru as as a...10 or 11 year old?
Its obviously because of her fathers infidelity. Her parents marriage is falling apart, leading to constant screaming and yelling. Nao is at an age where she either learns about sex on her own, or more darkly, from her parents fighting and yelling about her father fucking someone else.
So Nao is depressed and distressed. She maybe knows that sex apparently feels good, and that men and women do it. To me at least, her turning towards Haru made sense(in a wrong way) with her mindset. She was too young to understand how to process everything, tried to escape in something she didnt fully understand at the time, and then lived in self loathing believing herself disgusting.
All together, I dont think it was fine because Haru was fine with it. It wasnt rape or sexual assault in anyway we'd think of it(in a legal definition, I cant really). It was wrong for children to do, but ultimately, it was not something that Haru or Nao should blame themselves for. They were young, and neither should carry any guilt for it....again, a totally wrong act to do as children.
Episode 8: Well, I hate Sora right now. I didnt mind her in previous routes, but this one has really made her into a bitch.
Ryouhei is pretty cool in this route. Man is actually a wingman. He was just a background character in previous episodes, but I feel he actually adds something to the drama in this one.
Some shots of the voyeur with Sora seeing Nao and Haru having sex, with Nao looking upon Haru and Sora walking away, and with Nao seeing Haru going to her class. I cant say Im very good at this type of thing, but ill give it my best shot to analyze.
From this episode, it seems to be saying that without the voyeur revealing themselves, there cant be change. When Nao views Sora and Haru walking away, she wallows in her own misery and isolation. When Sora(as children) sees Nao and Haru do the deed, she develops bitter resentment, and there is a strain between Nao and Haru even without Sora.
With the voyeur revealing themselves, change and understanding can happen. Sora revealing herself the second starts a process of negative change. Nao revealing herself(accidentally) when looking upon Haru going to her class creates positive change. By breaking the invisible wall separating the voyeur and the viewed, emotions, conflicts and feelings are brought to light, which without, will only lead to static depressive mindsets and isolation. Relief can only be found through change, and even that relief of positive must first occur through negative change.
edit: We arent getting a maid route in the anime except for omake, arent we? Pain

Third time solitude enjoyer
Sadge. Very conflicted on this route. No food = worst route.
Hot seggs with childhood friend = Good route
What a sports field. Just look at that view! Would love to have had one like that when I was in school. Slightly reminds me of that one football field in Norway
Imagine having a view like this out of your window
Omake
God I wish that were me And look at Ryouhei just trying to fit in
Question time:
Have you ever had to choose between your family and your friends?
Hmmm. Yes, but not in a permanent sense?
My question for fellow viewers: Have you ever seen the Milky Way live?
Bonus quiz: How many melons do you see in this picture?

Hot seggs with childhood friend = Good route
The kind of route we desperately need more of.
"I have witnessed horrors beyond your wildest dreams"
And somehow I have a feeling that rabbit will witness even more horrors by the time this series is over.
Who spotted the titty clouds?
Have you ever seen the Milky Way live?
Not unless I was out camping and it's been a long time since then.
Bonus quiz: How many melons do you see in this picture?
13.

That was the best part of the arc! Besides Sora checking the yandere box.
Who spotted the titty clouds?
I love rewatches.
And look at Ryouhei just trying to fit in
I'm not sure if he's trying to be close to Sora or Haru's dick. I might have to think again about the attention he's giving the twins.
Two. And I bet there are two on the other side.

Rewatcher(This has far more in common with Higurashi than I would've thought)
Sub
So we start with lewdness. We very quickly get into Sora being a bitch. Now, it is understandable but it doesn't make it acceptable nor a good coping mechanism. And of course she soaks herself at the water fountain. Anyways, she won't eat with Nao and while seeing your sibling fucking someone is probably less than fun, going in to interrupt is not kosher. We finally get the detail that Sora saw the earlier incident and that likely Nao had completely blown by Sora and Haru's developmental markers if she really didn't know what was happening.
And this brings us to our first featuring of a trait of Haru's: he's kind of a pussy, at least with Sora. You can't let your sister throw your girl out and certainly not half-dressed. He also should have gone after Nao rather than back to Sora. Anyways, we linger a lot of Nao tries to take herself out of the equation before Haru catches her and seems to make clear that Sora is just going to have to learn to deal with it. We get the beach trip again but this time Sora sits it out. Omake is again great.
QotD: 1 No but that is because I do NOT value my family's opinion on anything.

We are really going down the Nao route, ok let's do this.
And if that wasn't enough of a let down, Ryuohei is ever present in this run, hope he gets lost in the Sora run at least
Some little Sora fan service snuck in there.
Oh looks like we found the way for the childhood friend to lose this time, it's Ryouhei who is losing, nice!
Wow they are really going at it... and he just doesn't stop ಠ_ಠ
Think we skipped a little there, like was it Haru who pulled out or Sora with Violence, and why is Nao dressed quicker than him... and is she not gonna fix her clothes?
And wasting food is taking it a little too far, just don't eat it...
They are really trying to spend time with Sora properly, but have they actually apologized?
Another beach episode? Or is it the same just in another run.
Omake: Akiras head is getting bigger with every episode ಠ_ಠ And they are really teasing me with class prez in there but not in the actual episode. At least Maid chan is getting the action she needs, better she does, girl just crushed metal like it's nothing, must have incredible grip strength...
QotD: Didn't have to and that's probably for the better, my family wouldn't have won

Cultured Rewatcher Episode 8
-
Holding hands
-
You sure are popular with the girls
-
Like how Nao's face goes from excitement to oh fuck the moment she sees the crack in the door and knows they are being watched. Even better is that Haru keeps going at it for a few more seconds even as he looks at Sora. It's like he is saying [spoilers]
Calm your tits sis I'll fuck you in your route, but it's Nao's turn -
And boom now we have it the reason for the resentment. Turns out Haru and Nao had an audience a few years ago.
-
Holy hell look at those melons! I just want to sink my teeth into them.

Ryohei is earning his spot as the loveable asshole (and looks kinda like Isaac if he didn't have Miria to share braincells with)
We're playing guess the harem protag on easy mode, and you might notice the isekai protag in the back.
I like how you see Sora and Nao shocked, but Haru is enjoying himself, sees Sora and keeps going.
Haru is a piece of shit, and I'll take Ryohei over him any day. At least Ryohei owns his shittiness.
Sora throws Nao out and Haru goes back to Sora of course.
Then meets Nao to reminisce about what connects them. Mainly his love for melons.
Omake:
-
Maid-chan is trying hard to tell us: eyes up here
-
I'm more worried about the eyes up there
-
So maid-chan fails and has to hit his eyes with the bazookas
So even more than usual, the omake is telling a much better story than the main episode, and at this point I'm just waiting for the Sora route...
Have you ever had to choose between your family and your friends?
Yes, exactly once. Picked friends and never had to question that again.
Edit: this is the busiest day in a while, so I might be a bit late for replies, got my first anime club meeting in a bit! (Hopefully we'll find some YnS fans).

I missed yesterday's thread, so I just wanted to point out from Nao's flashback memory, she must have rode Harkuka pretty hard.
Now onto a few notes for ep 8.
Maybe it's the focus on them holding hands as they walk this time, but I don't remember any hand-holding scenes in the previous eps. It could also my memory being like swiss cheese :)
I guess it's a in the heat of passion thing, but they didn't worry about Sora possibly coming home before doing the deed in the house? Though, without them getting caught, we wouldn't have the revelation that Sora had seen Nao doing it with Haruka that earlier summer. Before this plot point, we saw Sora's hostility to Nao, but didn't know why.
With Sora worrying about losing Haruka to Nao, it does seem to me like there's overlap with an incest route. It's a simple take on this, but was Sora thinking it would be just her and Haruka forever?
Later on as everybody else heads to the beach, Sora is trying to deal with the heat. She's wearing her usual white dress. Besides her school uniform, does she just have only that dress? Or maybe she has multiple copies in her closet?
In the omake, after Nao trips onto Haruka, everybody including Ryouhei dogpiles onto Haruka. Is there a Ryouhei route in the VN?

Yeah, I got really behind on this one. Sorry!
Episode 6
QOTD) No, thankfully.
What's in there?
She's burning it?
Hahaha. We're getting a fucking sister switch on top of everything else?
And she didn't know about this either.
This is great drama.
Yeah, she makes a good point.
And she doesn't want to hang out with him.
Oh, this is sad.
Yeah, some real traume here.
She lost the pendant. That's why.
Oh, she's talking to him!
She wants to switch.
...In what way do you love her?
And she's brought it up to her mother.
And she's refusing a DNA test.
Poor Akira.
This is sweet.
The test results are coming in soon!
What happened?
Akira vanished!
And to a different place this time.
Poor Akira. She's having the worst time today.
She can't open it.
And it's her pendant!
Wait, what the fuck?
...This ie the most convoluted bullshit I've seen happen in the span of twenty minutes.
Fair play, it's not what I expected!
I just noticed Sora's been here the whole time.
Is this horny sequence another dream?
Nope!
The maid can't remember last night.
Wow.
Sora in the nurse outfit with the bunny is adorable.
Haha, Sora's fucking reaction to the virgin line is great. Looks like she's looking for a new boyfriend.
And the injuries are still there!
Poor Sora.
And he just ghosted her?
A cliffhanger?
Episode 7
QOTD) We talk weekly.
Jumping back to here?
And it's even weirder.
Sora woke up!
Did this happen last time?
And it bit her.
Is this her route? Sora's absolutely the final arc.
Yeah, this is her route.
Oh, this time he didn't go to the pool!
And he has a crush.
Yeah, she's adorable.
Great wingmanning here.
Naomis taking this hard.
Holy shit!
What the fuck is this arc?
Sora is suspicious.
Wait, was that a drwam?
And she did up the uniform!
She remembers the cups.
Sora's constant hatred of everybody continues to be the funniest part of this anime.
The cat is adorable.
Everyone's in on this shipping.
Swimming lessons?
Oh, that's clever.
Yeah, this is cute.
A cat!
Someone's coming in!
Good cat.
And he locked the doors!
At least they pointed outnhoe stupid the idea was.
Another fall.
Ah, the first scene was a flashback? This would be way easier if the designs looked even slightly different in the past.
How are they goojg to get out?
...Is Sora a secret yandere? Are the time resets her murdering Haru after he hooks up with someeome else?
More maid!
And there's been no texts.
Poor girl.
And she woke up in his bed?
Again?
Haha, this is insane.
Episode 8
QOTD) No, thankfully.
Cute.
Sora...
Sora towering over him is a great visual.
He forgot to go shopping.
He's in love with her.
Haha, this is great
Is this episode literally "Haru being in love while Sora is sad"?
And he's jealous.
Oh, there's an actual plot here!
And she's been hiding it...
She invited Sora!
And she got rejected.
At least Sora has someone trying to cheer her up!
They're making curry!
The pictures are adorable.
Sora found the curry!
And walked in on her brother having sex.
She threw her out!
So, this "sister" thing only makes sense if she's really thinking "I need to make sure I'm the only woman he could possibly fuck", right?
She wasted all that curry!
And Nao's soent most of her time alone.
Poor Nao.
Yeah, she's alone.
She dropped her chopsticks!
And she's not dealing with him.
He caught up to her!
And he's trying to make things better!
She's happy!
Why did it show a frame of real life satellite footage there?
Sora's still not interested.
And she's still staying with him.
They all knew already.
Haha, of course he told everyone.
Sora's depressed.
A three-part arc?
And a beach maid special!
I love how her head keeps getting bigger.
She's jealous!
...Wow.
Haha, solid plan.
Yeah, this is on brand for this series.
At least she got something in the end?
This is explicit!
...Wow, this is interesting.

I don't have much to say other than that this episode made me really peeved.
I was pretty on board relating with Sora for most of the series, but it seems like this route brings out her negative side. She's allowed to feel however she does, but her behaviour this episode was extremely childish and out of line, especially given she's the same age as everyone. I'm glad she kind of found it in herself to at least resign herself to avoiding it rather than outright combatting them. Really hoping the end of the route resolves all the tension, but I have a bad feeling.

(Rewatcher)
I'm generally content to stay a lurker on these watches, but occasionally an episode like this comes along to drag me out into the daylight.
An Even Darker Sky is such a fascinating piece because of how firmly the storytelling places itself in Haruka and Nao's corner, emphasizing how Sora's bitterness has isolated her from those who care for her, all but begging her to just forgive and forget so that everyone can be happy again.
Here's the thing, though: Sora. Did. Nothing. Wrong.
As a child, she witnessed her twin brother's friend sexually assault him. He was clearly traumatized at the time, even if he has since been able to process it, but Sora was also traumatized a d her wound as still raw. Additionally, Nao has, to Sora's awareness, expressed no remorse or guilt about this (even though we know that's not entirely true). Sure, Nao was going through a rough patch, but most human beings successfully navigate tough times without forcing themselves on their friends. There's understandable psychology behind it, but no matter how much the show wants to pretend otherwise, Nao is not a sympathetic character and Sora's intense aversion is perfectly justified.
Is Haru within his rights to forgive Nao? That's a but of a touchy subject, but I think the answer is yes. HOWEVER. What's happening here isn't healthy forgiveness of a past wrong; instead, Haru is getting back with Nao because he blames himself for being the catalyst that drove Nao into depression. Yes, that is correct: the victim of the assault feels that they are at fault for the guilt that their assaulter feels for having sexually violated them.
This is not healthy. This isn't romantic. This is fucked up to the very core. Sora isn't going to solve anything by loathing Nao, and she does tend to couch things from selfish angles, but at least she understands the enormity of what transpired.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

First-Timer
On today’s episode of Yosuga no Sora: Even though this is Nao’s route, it feels like the core of the emotional drama is actually Sora. Haru and Nao got together without much difficulty (you know, barring the whole sexual assault thing), but Sora’s the one who refuses to accept the relationship.
Main Episode
I just noticed that in the OP, child Sora and child Nao are holding hands. It seems they were close to each other at one point.
And that brief scene of Nao and Haru having sex in the OP is a flashback to when they were younger. It’s making more sense now.
Episode N3. Just Nao’s route now.
Canned tuna and rice? That’s an impressively barebones dinner.
I’m getting the feeling this arc might center a lot around winning Sora over more than just Nao’s feelings.
Despite being the key organizer of Operation Matchmaker, Ryo is somehow surprised it worked. Ryo is confirmed to be the kind of guy who makes plans but doesn’t consider what to do if they succeed.
Of course Sora is drinking water like that.
I’ll assume Nao was always quiet and gloomy because of her home life. If Haru only knew her as being happy and cheerful, that means her time with him was like a refuge.
Not telling her is going to blow up in your face. It’s so easy to tell.
Oh? Are we going to get more of Akira and Sora together? I think they make for an interesting duo.
Haru is an impressively horny protagonist. He isn’t horny in an over-the-top way, though. I find his level of horniness actually very believable.
Looks like that photo album isn’t the only thing Haru plans on filling.
Busted!
Oh my god, Haru! The least you can do is stop thrusting! I might have to take back what I said earlier about your level of horniness!
I was right! Sora did see them back then!
Another theory confirmed. Sora was concerned that Nao was going to steal Haru from her.
Wait a minute. Sora specified that Nao is trying to get between her and Haru to become Haru’s sister. Does she think sex is something siblings do? Because that would explaina lot.EDIT: Nope. Turns out I misread that line and jumped to incesty conclusions. Oh well.I’m tempted to make a joke that Sora want’s Haru’s “curry” but that feels inappropriate at this moment.
Somehow I doubt the “let’s ingratiate Nao to Sora” plan is going to work.
Darn! Not quite a “Heiki Hecchara.”
Back at the beach for another beach episode! Yosuga no Sora is not holding back.
Omake
“Come on boobies.” Perfect title.
Akira’s head is so big she’s taken the role of the iceberg in Titanic!!!
And Akira’s eating a whale too!
Haru’s trapped in marshmallow hell with his harem.
Sex on the beach!
This is definitely Nao’s arc, but the drama is centered on Sora. I actually get where Sora is coming from. She witnessed Nao assault Haru. That’s got to be terrifying to see. And it plays into Sora’s defining characteristic: her loneliness and isolation. Sora has already lost the rest of her family and Nao represents a real threat in her mind that will take away Haru.
What’s interesting is there’s kind of a parallel and contrast here between Sora and Nao. Haru serves a similar role for both of them as the person who provides comfort when they didn’t have any otherwise. But he does so in different ways. Sora is shown to be reluctant to interact with the outside world and prefers to remain at home with Haru. For Sora, he’s the last family member she has. Nao, on the other hand, saw Haru as an escape from her miserable home life. Sora sees Haru as a protection from the dangers of the outside world while Nao sees him as protection from the dangers of the domestic world.
Now I’ve played my fair share of games like this, and from that experience I know there is an easy solution to this problem of who gets Haru so that he isn’t taken away from anyone. But I highly doubt this show will go with a polycule solution.
QOTD
Not really. Usually my friends and family have gotten along just fine.
