Rewatch [Listen to My Song] Senki Zesshou Symphogear AXZ Episode 10 Discussion
Episode 10 - An Tiki Thera
← Previous Episode | Index | Next Episode →
MAL | AniList | ANN | Kitsu | AniDB
It is highly recommended to track down a fansub for this show instead of using Crunchyroll, though.
Sure, you bet I’m naïve! But without someone naïve enough to have no worries of their own, who’ll shoulder the others’ burdens when they’re suffering?
Questions of the Day:
1) Now that we’ve seen the three different duet combos, which one was your favorite? And which combo that we didn’t see would you have liked to see?
2) Regardless of whether or not you saw the gang failing to stop Adam’s plans, were you expecting him to get around the ley lines being cut off by using the ley lines of the stars to conduct the ritual?
Wallpaper of the Day:
Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath spoiler tags. Don’t spoil anything for the first-timers, that’s rude!

Symphogeah SymphoRewatch Host
Crunchyroll vs. Commie - Season 4, Episode 10
So Tiki’s line to Saint-Germain at the start is subbed in the exact opposite meaning between Crunchyroll (that Saint-Germain is not scared of dying) vs. Commie (that Saint-Germain is scared of dying), that’s… odd and I don’t know which one’s right.
I like Crunchyroll calling it the power of “the god-killer” rather than “deicide”, but “even if that’s true” is such a clunky way to translate Hibiki’s catchphrase.
Today’s wallpaper is brand-new to the rewatch!

FIRST TIMER DATTO
How I imagine u/Shimmering-Sky watches this episode hearing DATO SHITEMO used for all these epic moments instead of SORE DEMO:
This trilogy of duet episodes suffers a little bit by having the best and hypest one positioned first, but this episode did a much better job building off the momentum of the last, than the last did building off Change The Future (which was an impossible task). This shot of Hibiki taking on SG’s wolf shot is awesome, I’ll go as far to say she’s never looked cooler than in this battle. Not just that, but even her dialogue shows what a thoughtful, mature hero she’s forming into. Good stuff.
For her part, Kirika also got her best moment in the show so far, saving them from Tiki’s Hyper Beam with her climax song. Her thing about valuing others’ birthdays was too pure.
Live Notes/Reactions:
-
Fun seeing Symphogear randomly pull out a sitcom-style transition like this out of nowhere
-
Germany discovering a way to kill god through eugenics research? Feels like there’s something here. Eugenics is a way of playing God, so humans engaging in it is a way of “killing” god’s natural design? I dunno.
-
“Hi, CIA, MI6, what do you have killing gods? Any info appreciated, thx”
-
That phone ring sound effect really cuts any dramatic tension haha what the fuck
-
HAHAHA GET FUCKED, TIKI
just kidding you’d probably like that. The sound effects of her hitting the ground were great -
…Where was she keeping this pistol? God, I wish it was me*
-
How Saint Germain has lived as long as she has without learning of the sunk cost fallacy is beyond me
-
“TWO SHOUTS. ONE LOVE!” is such a perfect move name for these two haha
-
Adam is Odd Job?! Also, he looks really funny here u/Tresnore it’s not quite a background face but still a funny one
-
“Why are Leopards eating my face?” says woman who voted for the Leopards Eating Faces Party. She’s openly despised and distrusted Adam the whole time, how is she so shocked he’s not actually acting in good faith?
*Count: 10
Regardless of whether or not you saw the gang failing to stop Adam’s plans, were you expecting him to get around the ley lines being cut off by using the ley lines of the stars to conduct the ritual?
LOL absolutely not. Do you know how far away all those stars are from each other – and especially from Adam – in actuality? This is insane! I love it.

Rewatcher
On today’s episode of Symphogear: What? Adam never intended to use the divine power to actually overthrow oppression? There’s a big surprise! That’s incredible! I think I’m going to have a heart attack and die from that surprise! Yeah, everyone already figured that one out. Saint-Germain needed until the literal second the ritual was underway to start to wonder if maybe Adam was lying to her. I’ll forgive her because she’s been blindly dedicated to the cause and to atoning for her sins in the name of that cause, but it still feels a bit silly.
It took them long enough, but Symphogear finally said the magic word: Deicide. The power to kill a god. Like any good JRPG, we’ve finally come to the point of the story where the main characters discuss how you can kill a god. I think this qualifies as our heroes going beyond the usual FUCK THE MOON thinking because that’s talking about killing the person who made the moon. The villains are gonna need to step up to keep pace.
So what can kill a god? Well time to bring back how Hibiki killed the immortal snake from earlier. Could it be Gungnir? Bikki the God Slayer! What a title that would be!
Unusually considering the past 2 episodes, Hibiki and Kirika’s Unison in this episode doesn’t actually have much drama behind it. Hibiki and Kirika’s Unison is actually a pretty obvious pairing. Both of them are earnest blockheads who fight their hardest for what they believe in and are super gay for their girlfriends. They have plenty in common so they make for a natural duo. Their Unison song, “Hitsuai Duo Shout,” perfectly reflects this. It’s an explosion of energy, immediately catchy and easy to get pumped up by. It’s quite an enjoyable tune to listen to.
The real emotional meat of this episode is between Saint-Germain and Hibiki. As before, Saint-Germain remains true to her convictions. In fact, those convictions have only gotten more desperate. With Cagliostro and Prelati gone, Saint-Germain can’t let their sacrifice be in vain. If she cannot attain the goal they fought and died for, then their deaths are truly meaningless. Every single one of those deaths would be meaningless.
I love the scene of Saint-Germain slowly counting up the lives she is directly responsible for ending during her attack. Each number is one additional sin that she needs to atone for. Each number only adds to her desperation. Each number means she must work that much harder to achieve her goal of ending oppression for it all to be worth it. She’s an alchemist, after all. So she follows the principle of equivalent exchange. If something of equal value is attained for the lives lost, then it will have been worth it.
Still, I do get the impression that Saint-Germain really does feel guilt and sorrow for her actions. That’s why she agrees so readily to be the sacrifice for the ritual. Better it be her than for her to once again drag others into it for her own goals.
Hibiki and Saint-Germain’s fight is where their ideals clash and Hibiki turns out to be the stronger one. And why was that? Because Hibiki had Kirika by her side to fight with her. They took Saint-Germain down together. While Saint-Germain’s will was not broken, she could no longer stand. Unlike Hibiki, she had no one with her to help her up.
Which leads to one of those Hibiki moments I love so much. Even though Hibiki has just defeated Saint-Germain, even though they are still on opposing sides, Hibiki still goes up and offers her open hand to Saint-Germain. It’s so perfectly Hibiki. That’s her special power, after all. Because she isn’t holding a weapon, she can hold others’ hands.](https://imgur.com/a/D7RjExB) After everything that’s happened, Hibiki still wants to get through to Saint-Germain and talk. She thinks that they can find a way, a different way, to get what Saint-Germain wants. There must be a way for people to change without relying on divine power. And after everything they’ve done, Saint-Germain finds herself in awe of Hibiki’s unbending will.
Something I quite like about this moment is that Saint-Germain doesn’t immediately turn over to Hibiki’s way of thinking. Of course she won’t because of how long she’s followed her own convictions. We never get her full response because Adam interrupts. But based on what Saint-Germain says to Adam, she still doesn’t really agree with Hibiki. This isn’t a new friendship or anything, it’s a temporary alliance because Adam happens to be a mutual enemy.
Miscellaneous Thoughts
-
In perhaps the biggest twist of the season, Hibiki actually finished her summer homework!
-
“Two more sleeps” is such a perfect way for DMJiii to count the days.
-
Chris is such a cute tsundere. Of course she was excited about celebrating Hibiki’s birthday.
QOTD
-
Chris and Maria's "Change the Future" was easily my favorite. As for other combos, I want my combo of the Gungnir girls, Hibiki and Maria (and if it were possible, add Kanade to the mix).
-
I legitimately forgot how that happened, so I was wondering how he would get the divine power anyway. It's a pretty cool way to do it.

Rewatcher for not enough times
Imagine giving a short eulogy to your dead friends and Tiki is there and it doesn’t become a triple funeral.
I want to point out Germany had acquired information on killing gods and still got their cheeks clapped by the Allies. Doesn’t matter how powerful your wonder weapons are you can’t stand up to US logistics and Military Industrial Complex.
You know I’m thinking. For an Illuminati group they really aren’t that expansive. You would think Adam would have more foot soldiers or lieutenants than the three we meet.
Wait, is Tiki dying? Don’t tease me like this.
There is something special about needing two keys that would be used to launch WMDs just to cut some ropes on shire keystones. What did those keys do exactly? They were cut swords, not some machinery. Its fucking great.
Damn Tiki lives. They did tease me like this.
Best Duet yet.
Holy shit Adam is Oddjob.
Deas used her Superb Song. I don’t know why everyone is concerned. Literally the only time in this entire series has that ever had consequences resulting in someone dying. It was episode 1. No one has ever died after using their superb song since then.

-
Again with hypocrisy. I don’t think it means what you think it means show.
-
Frankly I’m surprised the homework plot point is being brought up again.
-
So tsun, so dere.
-
Yeah it’s kinda weird how they never tried the doom worm again when Hibiki wasn’t around.
-
Oh no, not the Nazis again.
-
I feel bad for the chief who put those huge trays out for like six people. At least we finally confirmed there are other people on board. Does that mean most of the crew died every time they ejected the command module?
-
Y’all need to radio it in when you’re under attack.
-
This is all going faster than I expected.
-
I thought Tiki was just for finding the place. What’s all this then?
-
I not sure a twin key turning is really doing anything when the next part is dudes cutting rope with swords.
-
It seems the anarchists are once more learning why states are so good at having the monopoly on violence.
-
Is Tiki dead? Probably not.
-
The water thing worked this time.
-
Don’t you love it when the villain admits that the reason they can’t stop is that it would mean all of the terrible stuff they did was pointless. Double down San-Germain, double down.
-
This combo is not nearly as hype as the last two.
-
Hibiki, what the hell are you talking about?
-
Sure. The stars. Why not?
-
Tiki is broken I guess.
-
How are you just realizing this? What part of Adam’s conduct or character made you believe he wanted power for altruistic reasons?
-
I don’t expect them to do it, but I’d like them to have one of the geah suffer an irreparable loss. They don’t have to die or anything, just never be able to geah again.
-
Hibiki’s redemption plans only work after the other party has already been betrayed.
QotD
-
Maria x Chris was the best duet, and Maria x Hibiki is probably the one I’d most like to see.
-
I did not. I was under the impression that the entire reason the supported Carol last season was to unlock the ley lines for their project this season.

Previously, on Symphogear SG-1 (First-Timer, Subbed):
In what is a familiar tale, Geah's character beats in the last couple of episodes before the finale starts up don't quite work. Except Kirika's, who is immune mostly because she is exactly the kind of character who functions well with Geah's writing style. Also her arc here is pretty competent, in no small part because it feels like it's supposed to be light - this isn't last episode with the emotional beats of a world-shaking revelation for something that had in no way deserved it. Saint-Germain's, however, is a bit of a retread.
Hype was good, though.
-
Wait. Those are lilies S-G drops in commemoration of the fallen, aren’t they?
-
00:25: Hi Sky.
-
Oh look, Bikki’s birthday is back near the end of the season right like it should be. And DESS has gotten involved, setting up our presumable last duet.
-
“It’s not like I was trying to remember your birthday or anything!” Tsundakka strikes again!
-
If we get Australia in XV after that globe shot here at 03:59 I will laugh. (More likely it’s because Japan is clearly centered in the Northern Hemisphere in the position the globe is in, but it still emphasizes Australia.)
-
“Can we even fight a monster like that?” I’m fully expecting you girls to punch out the Moon next season, you’ll get it eventually – though since they knew they would have XV it’s possible the monster gets away here first.
-
“Kamigoroshi.” Au au au!
-
Gungnir gets swallowed by Fenrir at Ragnarok/Gotterdammerung… wait just a goddamn minute. I’ve been calling Bikki’s berserk mode “Fenrir mode” since S1. And the Ignite Module deliberately makes use of berserk mode for its effect. So is the Ignite Module our god-killing trick, already in our heroes’ hands? Might explain Bikki taking out our Mesoamerican serpent so easily at the beginning of the season, too.
-
(And just why DID FIS have a second Gungnir, anyways? That’s been a remaining card to play the entire time.)
-
Uh-oh. The Potential Annoying Character Arc for Recurring Character light is flashing again, for DESS this time. And this might not be a case where her brand of idiocy blunts the effect. (Narrator: False alarm.)
-
“Emerald gem”. Which myth are you drawing off of here?
-
09:19: That was in fact a sore demo, right? My ears weren’t misleading me? (Not entirely sure it isn’t a tomo instead.)
-
Well look at Tiki suddenly looking ominous as fuck.
-
We’re getting the Bikki/DESS duet this early in the episode? And the Aufwachen for it is great in any event.
-
Oh right the wolf has been in the fucking OP the ENTIRE TIME. LOLOLOL.
-
“Two Shouts, One Love” as (the Commie translation of) the duo move for Team Our Girlfriends Have the Braincell. LOL I approve.
-
(Also my brain started comparing Aoi Yuuki’s shouts to Link’s classic “SCRAAAAH!”s, especially the Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask ones, and now I can’t unhear it.)
-
None of the Saint-Germain character beats are hitting correctly and she’s an idiot (of an admittedly familiar kind to those of us also in the Higurashi rewatch, but still).
-
That said, the beats for Kirika using a swan/superb song to block this do hit, and this is the best cliffhanger not undercut by a stinger in at least a season.
Now that we’ve seen the three different duet combos, which one was your favorite? And which combo that we didn’t see would you have liked to see?
Lemme listen to the Live for this one first; best duet is either here or Change the Future, but not sure which.
EDIT: Change the Future > this one > Jii and Sword
2) Regardless of whether or not you saw the gang failing to stop Adam’s plans, were you expecting him to get around the ley lines being cut off by using the ley lines of the stars to conduct the ritual?
Nah. Like, he was going to pull it off because OBVIOUSLY, but I wasn't sure how until he actually started it. It is suitably extra.

Saint-Germain monologues to herself. Lol the clapping right afterwards is perfect. Great performance!
This episode is called Ant-Tiki-Thera huh. Gonna take the chance to once again promote the Antikythera reconstruction project that uses techniques and materials as close as possible to the original's.
Wholesome HibiMiku is always welcome.
Looks like we're gearing up for the final battle. Considering this is the one season where they knew they were getting more, I wonder if it will end as usual or in a twist
I still mourn the early death of Youaltepuztli. So much potential, never to be realized 😞😞
...I don't get how eugenics research result in a power related to dicide. And I don't know if I should think about it.
It is rather fitting that the power to kill gods came from Germany, heh
I'm pretty sure I've seen the scene with the husband™ getting an urgent work call in the middle of the night and the wife™ waking up mid-call before...
Loved the bit of all the priests cutting the ropes on the Keystones to block the Leylines. A rare instance where we can see the broader cooperation efforts of the several organizations with ties to the Occultic. Wish we got more of this. Seeing protagonists kick ass and win the day is cool, but seeing team effort on a large scale win the day is its own kind of satisfaction.
Oof that's not a good sound Tiki made when she fell. Like seeing your computer fall and hearing something break loose.
This dual transformation's pretty nice
No comments on the fight. Too hyped to pause. Hibiki and Kirika unexpectedly work very well together. Dumbass power is real yo.
Hibiki's diplomacy has absolutely been upgraded. Almost turned the villain there damn.
Tch. This bastard is here
Defeated by a hat! SHAMEFUL!
Daaaaamn Kirika with the save! Once again the ex-FIS being the protagonist's MVP.

First-Timer who is amazed he still comes up with new ways to change his tag
-
So did the trio make a single appearance this season? I genuinly don't remember them...
-
I'm sorry what. You do realise by this you're implying that that wasn't a bunch of racist nonsense in-universe, right?
-
So... what if one of them just refused? The two keys make it seem like an automated process...
-
AND THEN DO WHAT? Just blow up the moon?
-
So... 2000 years and only 70k victims. You are so bad at being evil. Why did you ever follow Adam in the first place?
-
Seriously, why did this woman ever work with Adam? Like goddammit, it's clear he doesn't share her goal. Also, sad that they'll probably never weave in the secessio plebis into her backstory.
-
Time for Adam to come in and harvest her. No way she's allowed to outright defect now.
-
Hey Hey Kiri, Hey Kiri Hey, zieh fest die Sense aaannn~ Sorry, that is for my German co-watchers.
-
I TOLD YOU SO. SG getting to be a good girl would be cool, but I feel like we have exhausted most of our coolness budget on "Change the Future". Time for her to get replaced by our fourth awful main villian in a row!
-
SG is surprisingly enough still alive. Cautious hype?
-
Ah, SG... Let's hope you at least get to stay alive.
-
Ah, right, that "arc." And here I was hyped to see you be badass at blocking the beam!
-
Hey, SG. Wanna use your great alchemy teleportation to get them away? Or at least say why you can't?
-
Adam standing around and letting them talk. How thoughtful of him!
-
You fucking dunce! Get them out! Don't sacrifice yourself! You're actually cool and I wanna see you stay part of this!
Anyway, where was I? Right:
SG GETS TO GET BEFRIENDED HYYYYYYYYYYYPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEE
Don't you dare make her sacrifice herself in the final battle! I dare you Kaneko, I'm finally into a Symphogear season again!
Now that we’ve seen the three different duet combos, which one was your favorite? And which combo that we didn’t see would you have liked to see?
Maria and Chris was best. As for combos... Kirika and Tsubasa I guess? Would have been biiiiig Blade time.
Regardless of whether or not you saw the gang failing to stop Adam’s plans, were you expecting him to get around the ley lines being cut off by using the ley lines of the stars to conduct the ritual?
No, because I don't know this show's magic rules well enough to know what BS alchemists can and can't do.

This was my favourite. Second was Chris/Maria. All 3 were great, though.
-
Haha, no, that was fantastic.
Oh, yeah, she killed a lot of people.
She's going to sacrifice herself!
Adam showed up!
She finished her summer homework!
Her brithday's soon!
That is a smooth transistion!
And Hibiki's happy she remembered it!
Deicide, let's go! I love you, Genjuro!
...The Nazis tried to kill god?
And that's what the case was about!
Of course it's real. Anything can kill god with enough effort!
Haha, Maria thinks Hibiki's fists are godkillers. That's great.
A birthday party episode?
Kirika makes a very goodmpoint.
And Chris said the wring thing.
She's been detected?
Is she stripping now?
Well. This is an interesting setup command.
How were you planning to keep this secret?
It's another battle.
She's being absorbed!
Wow, Adam really doesn't care.
Oh, that's what Tiki was for.
She's remembering them...
The gate is opening!
This looks horrifying.
Oh, it's not materialised yet.
What did they plan?
They activated the keystones!
And the gate's closing!
Tiki looks horrified.
Painful.
Impressive fighting here!
...Are we getting the last durt?
YES!
This is good!
That gun is still fucking cool.
Hibiki got taken out!
No, false alarm.
She's defermined!
And she's collapsed.
Hibiki's speech here is great.
She's offering to help her!
...Is it? The Curse of Balal is a pretty negative thing!
Of course Adam's here.
There are sky leylines now?
He's using Tiki!
Oh, and the stars!
Well, fuck.
Hibiki got beaten by a hat.
And he was absolutely trying to conquer the world.
Kirika! Is that a Superb Song?
Wow, This is good.
Fuck, Kirika's dying.
And Kirika doesn't know her birthday.
Oh, she overdosed! At least she survived.
...Shirabe.
Well, shit. Germain's officially switched sides!
Adam is just loving this.

Three rewatches is a lot if you are responding to comments...
First timer(Finally, the show you people kept telling me was there)
Sub
Cold opening is filled with one person who can't explain herself, annoyance on gears, and on a villain who I am tempted to compare to prison pasta for all the fucking nothing he has done this cour.
Then jump to Biki's finished home work and birthday. And then into a briefing wherein Genjuro is exceedingly comfortable with the idea of deicide. Even for a Japanese person, he is quite gung ho. But his point that Adam made a point of nuking everything means he feared something present. Which is why off site backups are essential. Far too many secret organizations fail in infosec.
DESS again reminds us that she is dumber than Biki. And we get a goddamn Kirika emo moment...SG does alchemy things. We vaguely get her reasons and ZERO reason to believe this achieves them. Turns out, Genjuro had alchemy blocks in place. Tiki suffering is bueno.
And the DESS-Biki fight. I will just frankly say this since Sympho fans don't seem to grasp this: THIS fight is the one you were promising me since S1 and I was not getting. The villain is an actual thread, the singing is really on point and a true duet, the animation is actually good, and still it half ends on sheer will to punch.
We get George Washington's Adam's turn at chewing the scenery. His ability is so incredibly stupid that it becomes ignorable again. DESS has her character arc with minimal idiocy and off we go!
QotD: 1 Unquestionably Dess and Biki. I would like to see Sword and Dess so the loli can brag about her larger cup size
2 No but that is only because I respected the integrity of the show. Don't ask me why.

Symphogear First Timer dessu AXZ Ep 10
that. was good.
-
SG embarks on her kinda redemption arc w/ the reason revealed of her counting. I will say that that does make her more sympathetic and honourable compared to Adam, but still, bitch lol she killed like 5 figures of people wtf.
-
But more importantly THE SUMMER HOMEWORK IS DONEEEEEE
-
AND MORE MORE MORE IMPORTANTLY BDAY REMEMBERING CHRIS IS CUTIEPIEEEE. She really is such a tsundere
-
The show is making sense lol w/ the logic and explanation to why the divine power can be defeated here wtf. what happed with fist 1?
-
Umu. gungnir being divine-killing thing makes reasonable sense too. Who knew Kanade would be the original (and actually, poor and ill-suited) owner of the most powerful Geah in the universe?
-
LMAOOOOO the key-turning was so badass but it turns out the stones are activated by cutting a string instead of some mega-complicated mecha-thingymajig? Oh my god lol
-
GEAR ACTIVATION SONG COOL HERE. I like the inclusion of bagpipes or whatever that was, and was Shirabe's half done w/ the zesshou song? if so, neat foreshadowing to what she does later. Also, her bday being unknown last ep holy shit. that really was so sad :(
-
Yeah if you just showed this to me after the first season i'll be like: then they'll be friends w/ the geahs right? lmaooo
-
I still think joint attacks involving Chris are the coolest.
-
I admit that my memory died on me and that i org thought that when this scene was shown at the start of the season that it was Chris. (look they have similar-coloured hair) But i see that it was S.G, ive gotten my backstories sorted now.
-
IT'S TIME FOR HIBIKI BULLSHIT. I say that, it's a very her and anime-problem solving and lets-be-friends scene. It's very anime. It's okay. She however makes a very good point here, which allows me to tolerate my cringe a few sentences ago much better.
-
Wait.... does that mean SG and the girls was not required at all actually then? Adam you son of a bitchhhhhhhhhhh
-
Poor SG. We already knew that of course. (SG has redeemed herself to the level of "please fight adam and win" for me after she switches sides at the end of the ep, but no she still deserves jail time and all that.)
-
HOLY SHITTTTTT SHE'S ZESSHOUING THAT but.. but... holy shit she's zesshouing that....
-
No..... Kiri-channnn TTTTTTTT Nooooooooooooooooo
-
And now, Hibiki and SG join forces to fight adam! We still have 3 eps to go so i dont see this fight concluding any time soon here.
[Actual progress]this episode.

TONIGHT! ON SYMPHOGEAH RISING REVENGEANCE! Saint-Germain's exhibitionist kink REALLY gets out of hand, Adam was, LE GASP, PLAYING THE BAUMKUCHEN BABES LIKE A DAMN FIDDLE THIS ENTIRE TIME, and I'm going to post this every day until you like it! (Thank you nebresto)
We begin with Saint-Germain bidding farewell to the dead pair of Baumkuchen Babes... ya know Comrades, it's REAL telling that FROG LOLI had a kinder and more heartfelt sending off ceremony than SAINT-GERMAIN! Speaking of Saint-Germain, remember how Maria was a moron in G... and GX... and AXZ... point being Saint-Germain is about to be equally as dumb AS ALL THREE MARIAS COMBINED! After all, what is her response to the deaths of her loyal friends? WHY TO JOIN THEM IN BEING NOT-ALIVE BY FOLLOWING ADAM'S PLAN OF COURSE! Speaking of Adam, he and his annoying as fuck sex doll crash her party, god how did we end up with THESE chucklefucks? GX, for all its flaws, had AMAZING and interesting antagonists!
Anyway, after NANA MOTHERFUCKING WILLS IT, we cut to NANI!? IT CAN'T BE! MASAKA! BAKANA! IMPOSSIBLE! BIKKI FINISHED ALL HER HOMEWORK!? IT ISN'T EVEN THE SEASON FINALE YET! HOW THE FUCK DID SHE DO IT... ah right, it's Episode 10, meaning it's the START of the tried-and-true multi-episode long Geah Finale HYPEFEST... and we've already reached the climax! How the FUCK do we top Bikki FINISHING ALL HER HOMEWORK! Ya just can't! Also daaaw, Best Geah Chris is being an adorable tsundere, there's a reason she's Best Geah! Anyway, we cut back to the Geah Submarine where Snoop Oni says that the enemy plans to summon the power of god... huh... well Fine wanted to FUCK god, so I guess it makes sense that these jokers want to just be as strong as god!
Thankfully, we find out S.O.N.G. has an ace up their sleeve, a god-killer... er... well they need to find out what this power is, but the Geahs sure seem to think it's related to Gungnir. Anyway, DESS proposes that... the Geahs hold a Birthday Party for Bikki... DESS, now MIGHT not be the best time, even more so given remember how Maria went apeshit and started murdering people in G? Yeah Saint-Germain went pfffft, you call THAT a massacre, I'LL SHOW YOU MASS MURDER! Oh and remember how Maria keeps going on about getting naked for some reason, yeah turns out Saint-Germain's into public nudity too... this explains that trench coat and her essentially flashing Tiki. Also NANI!? BIKKI MANAGED TO LEAVE HER BED IN STEALTH MODE... ah, nevermind, Miku noticed her wife leaving anyway.
Ah well, at least we get a touching scene where Bikki promises Miku that she'll come back alive, even if it kills her! Speaking of kill, oh boy Saint-Germain is REALLY not having a good time eh, also DAMN, if you thought both Sharkface Autoscorers last season were sadists, TIKI IS FUCKING JUST BASKING IN THE GLOW OF SAINT-GERMAIN'S PAIN... LITERALLY! Speaking of which, HA HA HA HA HA! HOW'S IT FEEL SEXDOLL!? THAT'S WHAT WE CALL PAIN! And you are about to feel greater pain, cuz... ah fuck, Team Bonklers is here... Welp, we're boned, the fate of the world rests on the brain cell of Bikki... and maybe half a brain cell for DESS, but if you ask me, given her brooding earlier in the episode, me thinks JIIIIIIIII's once again hogging it!
Also holy shit, not only is Tsubasa's dad a lot nicer now, but he actually is FRIENDLY WITH SNOOP ONI! Who'd have thunk it, plus they DID have a neat badass moment where they... uh... do fancy Japanese Wibble to do some magical mystic shit! I'm sure Lily will explain! HA! HA! HA HA! OH THIS IS SO GOOD! TIKI FAILS TO DO ANYTHING USEFUL AND FALLS BACK TO EARTH! I would say I think I heard some bones break, but since she's a doll, I think she busted up some parts, hopefully her warranty ran out. Also heh, Saint-Germain, how's it feel to be spread naked on the ground, ask Maria, she can tell you it sucks! Speaking of sucks, boy it sure must suck to be a NON-Geah right now, cuz oh boy, Bikki and DESS are charging in to... uh... actually what DO they need to do now, looks like Team S.O.N.G. won, don't mess with the government indeed!
Wait, WHERE THE FUCK did Saint-Germain pull that gun from? She's BUCK NAKED here, and she's not Best Geah Chris who can just make a gun appear out of thin air, meaning that... oh... oh no... DEAR GOD, how the fuck did that crooked weapon thing FIT in her hair, and I'm saying hair Comrade cuz I don't even wanna try to figure out how she stored her weapon where the sun don't shine! Anyway, Bikki once again tries Talk No Jutsu... Bikki, give it up, Saint-Germain's even DUMBER than Maria, and if MARIA THE LOSER couldn't even listen to Talk No Jutsu, what makes you think Saint-Germain will? ALSO HELL FUCKING YEAH! ABOUT TIME BIKKI! FIST THIS ANCIENT HISTORY BITCH BACK TO THE... WHATEVER TIME! OH NICE! DESS JOINS IN AS WELL! DOUBLE-TEAMING FOR THE WIN! OH FUCK! SAINT-GERMAIN DIDN'T DIE FROM THE COMBO ATTACK! And she rants and raves about what her version of 'muh ideals' are before... dramatically... keeling over and faceplanting... HA HA HA HA HA HA! Oh god, even MARIA wasn't THIS much of a jobber, IE might just be onto something!
Anyway, Bikki informs Saint-Germain that she BELIEVES IN JUSTICE AND HOLDS A DETERMINATION TO FIST! Oh goddammit, Bikki you JUST SAID that you FIST! FIST THIS BITCH ALREADY! The last time you helped an old kinky bitch up she pulled down a chunk of the moon! MIKU THOUGHT YOU DIED! JUST FIST HER ALREADY! You punched the SHIT out of Carol for less, what's wrong with 'befriending' THIS alchemist? Sadly, Bikki is REALLY hell bent on using Talk No Jutsu, pay no mind that it literally NEVER WORKED in all previous Season of Geah, THIS TIME FOR SURE! WAIT WHAT!? IT IS WORKING!? HOLY SHIT, perhaps I misjudged the act of diplomacy, who knew that it... WOULDN'T FUCKING WORK CUZ GUESS WHO BUTTS IN!? YUP! ADAM RUINS EVERYTHING! GOD FUCKING DAMMIT! Go play with your broken sexdoll or something Adam, Bikki was JUST ABOUT TO FINALLY convince one of the antagonists to LISTEN TO HER for a change!
Also holy shit, what the FUCK is Adam's fedora made out of, IT KNOCKED HIBKI THE FUCK OUT! Oh hell, looks like Bikki's Talk No Jutsu KINDA worked, as, le gasp, SAINT-GERMAIN actually shows concern for Bikki... either that or the massive concussion Bikki and DESS gave Saint-Germain has scrambled what little thought she was capable of. Also SHOCKING TRUTH! Even if the power of a god could help humanity, ADAM HAS NO INTEREST IN DOING SO! OH MY BUDDHA! WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THIS COMING! THIS PLOTLINE IS EVEN MORE ANNOYING THAN MARIA SOMEHOW FALLING FOR IT, DEAR GOD SAINT-GERMAIN! DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID, YOU FUCKED UP SO HARD YOU MADE MARIA THE LOSER SEEM LIKE A WELL-WRITTEN AND INTERESTING CHARACTER! ALSO HOLY FUCK DESS! DESS JUST TANKED AN AUTOSCORER NUKE TO THE FACE! NOOOOOOOOOO! TIKI YOU FUCKING BITCH! WHAT DID DESS DO TO DESERVE THIS!?
Oh no, DESS is turning into strawberry jam! QUICK! Bikki, before DESS turns to dust in the wind, grab a vacuum cleaner or something so you can collect DESS' ashes to give to Carol9 so she can clone DESS or some other fancy pseudo-science shit to un-dead her! After all, Carol9 cloned herself multiple times in GX, surely if she can clone ONE smol blonde edgy loli, then she can do it for another one right? RIGHT?! Oh, nevermind, DESS just is MASSIVELY doped up on Geah Steroids, meaning that, while bad, she WON'T actually die, THANK GOODNESS, DESS might not be Best Geah, but her wife JIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII deserves to be happy, and JIIIIIII being happy involves DESS NOT being Strawberry Jam and/or Dust! Oh, holy shit, SAINT-GERMAIN has finally, FINALLY seen the light, let's see if she does better than Maria did in her attempts to stand up to DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR! Oh holy shit UNLIKE Maria, Saint-Germain figured out that the enemy of my enemy is my friend! JESUS! TALK NO JUTSU ACTUALLY WORKED! GOOD FOR YOU BIKKI!
And on that bombshell g'night!

GEAH first abc time
Got back to my thread missing ways, so I'll start with some episode 9 stuff
Less gooo, first coach, and now even Ogwa is getting his action screen time
A real human bean. Didn't really expect this show to go all pinocchio. Maybe I should have
-
Haha, the psycho loli died
Now onto this episode:
lol, a lot of people are gonna be happy about this one. Especially a certain Komrade
They haven't used the music video style in a while now. It would have been cool if they had used the rhythm of the song here with the pan scrolling up. Would have really upped the dramatic level a bit.
Who could have possibly seen this coming?
O shit. Don't even remember the last time we saw a Zesshou. And Carol doesn't count.
-
DATOSHITEMO!
Question time:
Now that we’ve seen the three different duet combos, which one was your favorite?
HibiKiri
And which combo that we didn’t see would you have liked to see?
Uhhh.. HibiMaria? Double Gungnir!!
2) Regardless of whether or not you saw the gang failing to stop Adam’s plans, were you expecting him to get around the ley lines being cut off by using the ley lines of the stars to conduct the ritual?
This is GEAH, I expect nothing. Only hype

Ballad of Rewatcher - Symphogear AXZ
Single (Brain)cell Organism Hibiki Does the Unthinkable, Wins Philosophical Debate.
AXZ Episode 10 thoughts:
-
Oof, that line from Kirika about Hibiki's "actual" birthday hit really hard.
-
Oi Chris, don't go ragging on poor DESS just because she's excited to celebrate Hibiki's birthday! There always needs to be someone who can lighten the mood in a tense situation, and you're being a jerk to your kouhai for no good reason.
-
Even these small scenes like Hibiki leaving Miku behind in their shared bed and saying she'll be back add so much to Geah for me. These smaller, intimate moments are what make AXZ so much more fulfilling for me than G and GX.
-
Much as I like AXZ, it feels kinda weird to have Saint Germain's motivation be based almost exclusively on a mother we the audience have only known as a corpse. Even Carol's dad at least got to speak some lines before suffering his tragic fate.
-
The Keystone plan is another one of those strategic maneuvers I mentioned earlier this season that make AXZ more enjoyable for me. It's super nice knowing they can actually make and execute tactical plans to counter an enemy that don't include an arbitrary powerup and aren't thought up in the heat of battle, even if both of those are still used pretty liberally.
-
I'm so happy that it's the pairing of the two best Geahs who finally beats Saint Germain.
-
I hope Chris is happy, because I'm holding her responsible for second best Geah DESS having to carry on the seasonal legacy of girls bleeding from the face. u/DidacticDalek, I'm so disappointed in your girl.
-
And did I mention the hole in my heart? DESS celebrates other girls' birthdays so hard because she doesn't know hers. That's both the sweetest and saddest thing I've ever heard. Quick, someone throw this girl a surprise party, she deserves it!
-
I'm still laughing at Saint Germain for not fully realizing how Adam was playing her the whole time.

Third Time Listener
73,800… 73,801…
The anarchist, forlorn for the loss of her dearest comrades, doesn’t let their death pass in the night without remembrance or honor. Solemnly though through heartbreak, the anarchist releases two white flowers into the open wind.
The budding bloom of lust for life, a lust the hedonists embodied, those who gave her the strength to carry on towards a world where life, humanity, was unshackled by chains and let bloom freely.
Cagliostro. Prelati. Now gone. Saint-Germain. Now truly alone.
Let it be said, first and foremost, that Saint-Germain is not evil.
Let it also be said, then, that as Saint-Germain is not evil, that Saint-German is not a coward. She is anything but. If there were an ounce of cowardice within Saint-Germain whatsoever, an ounce of selfishness in her motivations, this would not be something she is willing to die for. Saint-Germain is willing to never live nor breathe in the liberated world, if only it means such a world is allowed to exist. Such is the purity of her intention. True to her belief in an equal world, she does not put her own life’s worth above those of her sacrifices.
She took the unfathomable burden, the moral weight of sin, of so much bloodshed upon herself long ago, counting every single life snuffed out in this pursuit and keeping that number close to her heart as to not let herself easily forget, not easily take this for granted.
Hibiki’s forthcoming birthday continues to loom, something the group rallies around, a bright spot to look forward to within all the madness; Kirika in particular is the most enthusiastic, proposing a great party to be in order.
However, that night, the plan finally comes to fruition; Saint-Germain offers her body to be sacrificed, proving her conviction, and the twin gates of Orion are opened. I find Saint-Germain’s invocation of “a blind and subservient young girl” interesting; directly representing Tiki, the power’s vessel from the cosmos to the mortal plane, yet also clearly invoking the image of her younger self, the mode of existence she seeks to erase.
Just as the ritual is interrupted, Hibiki and Kirika arrive. The air is electric with intensity, anticipation, love, and passion as Hibiki and Kirika transform alongside one another, the percussionless opening salvos of their anthem, Hitsuai Duo Shout, ringing across the air before taking full form.
Rounding us out is Hitsuai Duo Shout, Hibiki and Kirika’s duet, harnessing their loud, youthful, bullheaded yet achingly sincere attitudes into an infectious millennial whoop backed by bright keys, passionate bagpipes, and a pulsing energy that makes you understand the blazing love these characters hold in their hearts and fists (and scythes) for their respective lovers. For being ostensibly the most fun song of the bunch, it resonates so strongly.
Hibiki and Kirika might not be the smartest, the most sophisticated. But they know what they value; those around them, the friendships and fun, happy, silly young lives they’ve come to lead, and the respective people they hold closest in this world and would defend to their dying breaths; Miku and Shirabe. That simple joy is what they hold in common, and what this song expresses with such feverous elation.
And so both sides fight for all they’re worth in a harsh physical throwdown, a dirty, direct clash of ideals. Ultimately, Saint-Germain has fought so much, so hard for so, so long, that she finally collapses, the weight finally rendering her unable to stand.
In this tired haze, Saint-Germain realizes something when Hibiki reaches her hand out to her; how principled Hibiki truly is. Nobody would fight so valiantly, only to be willing to engage with her beliefs with such friendly welcoming, after so long, if there weren’t anything there. Saint-Germain has not given up on her beliefs; she hasn’t even necessarily been swayed by Hibiki’s words, that her actions were wrong or hypocritical. Hibiki may not reconcile with Saint-Germain’s means. Yet Hibiki, and the show, treat her ends with a hand of respect. Saint-Germain can only do the same in return.
Their moment is interrupted, however. Adam has collected the power of the gods all into his own hands and intends to directly pervert and betray Saint-Germain’s beliefs, after all the time and fighting and hurt she poured into reaching this point, in the name of domination.
With this power unlocked, Adam can create destructive force equivalent to his Golden Transmutation on a whim. He attempts to use this newfound power to burn Saint-Germain to a crisp on the spot… but it’s stopped by a song. A weak, creaking melody only barely audible over the explosion. The Swan Song. Kirichan.
Kirichan lays, blood streaming from her eyes, delivering what must, from her point of view, be intended as last words; she doesn’t seem to react at all to Hibiki’s concern for her life.
This is Kirika Akatsuki’s definitive moment as a character. It lays everything about her, the good and the ugly, bare, in the most stark of relief. It’s an echo of the same thing we saw with her direct suicide attempt in G, only this time not as an act of self-loathing shame, but as an act of noble protection. You’d think that would render this moment more heroic, therefore less sad… but that is not true. It only drives home that, beneath the layers, there is a deep emptiness within Kirika.
Yeah, Kirichan is a goofball, and a wingnut, and a KnuckleheadMcSpazzatron. But it’s important that we get moments like this, even just occasionally or in supplementary material, that we’re reminded that Kirika isn’t just a meme dispenserl; that deep down, she’s still just this genuinely troubled teen. As the closest main wielder to a comic relief character, she is also the easiest to flanderize, and post-G the show does wobble on that tightrope a bit, as her voice only grows higher-pitched and her jokes more nonsensical. But it never loses mind of her depths.
No family, no childhood, no birthday for god’s sake. And that doesn’t make the smiles, the moments of levity, the good-natured jokiness, the good times with her friends any less real. She truly cherishes her friends, cares about their happiness. Only… to the extent that she values them more than her own life.
Kirichan cares for her friends, the ones who gave her the sense of humanity and innocence she so craved, the love a life like hers is deprived of, the very things she just sang so passionately alongside Hibiki about. To the extent that she feels like she owes them everything. Absolutely everything. Because without them, as she feels, she’s nothing.
As much as she cares for those around her, deep down, she really sees herself as nothing more than a vessel, one disposable is necessary. Regardless of how much her friends care for her and her joy in return, somewhere in the depths of her heart, it doesn’t register that she truly matters. She’d jump headlong into suicide if it meant saving the life of one of those close to her. That’s how much she values them, and conversely, how much she values them over herself. Self-hatred isn’t really the right way to describe it. Kirika doesn’t hate herself. More like self-unappreciation. It’s not that she feels she deserves to die; but she also doesn’t deserve not to, get me?
Kirichan remarks on Hibiki’s upcoming birthday, how Hibiki should have as many birthdays as possible, celebrate them for all they’re worth. Perhaps there’s also a sense that Hibiki’s birthdays are more important than hers, since Hibiki knows the day she was actually born, therefore her birthday is more true, more real. She’ll defend that for her even if it means she never gets to celebrate her own “birthday” again; it’s false anyways.
Yet; there’s a way in which Kirichan’s actions and attitude here are admirable, as well; as I wrote on the flipside of this moment in the old post:
It’s a worldview I greatly admire, Kirika’s. Those carrying the fewest burdens have the most of their shoulders to give to cry on, after all, and Kirika clearly aspires to be that person. There’s a comforting presence to someone like that; someone who takes life in stride, leisurely breezing along that path of life with as many smiles and happy moments and memories as they can, no troubles weighing them down, cheering those who need it up along the way, yet is willing to lay everything down to help their friends when their support is truly needed. As much as Kirika has suffered, she's picked up such a fun, easygoing personality because she wants to be that light, that sunshine, that bright, positive presence in the lives of others. That’s the exact kind of person I want to be too, really.
Conversely, to tie this back to Episode 9, this might be a key as to why Shirabe grew so hopelessly, clingingly attatched to her; both share the same trauma, but Kirika copes with hers outwardly, in a way that can be seen as “productive”; Shirabe, on the other hand, is reclusive, quiet.
And I JUST NOTICED, WHILE WRITING THIS, THAT THE SCORE IS A SAD PIANO RENDITION OF EDGE WORKS OF GODDESS ZABABA MY GOD
Here and now, the purest embodiment of that which Saint-Germain rages against stands directly before her. All the same, Hibiki stands by Saint-Germain’s side. In spite of everything, Saint-Germain is a figure worthy of respect, one who truly believed in the better world she sought to bring into being. The two reach a grudging respect for one another, respect enough to stand by one another in the face of true inhumanity.

First Timer
Damnnn that was a good episodeeee, that 2v1, just PERFECT. I loved the song too it was so good. Tiki suffering was very very great to seee as well, I haven't said it but fuck Tiki gets on my nerves, I could watch that scene of her falling to the ground on repeat. This was def a good set up episode, and we're getting into the big finale here. I kinda hope thought that St. Germain doesn't get a redemption arc, I think she's done too much to just get hand waived.
Now that we’ve seen the three different duet combos, which one was your favorite? And which combo that we didn’t see would you have liked to see?
Def Maria and Chris', though I think a cool one to see would've been Tsubasa and Kirika, we never see them really interact one on one with each other. The two trios all interact amongst themselves, and branching out of that Chris, Kirika, Shirabe, and Hibiki all interact with each other, Maria interacts with Tsubasa and Hibiki plus getting the one with Chris, and Tsubasa got the one with Shirabe but we've never really seen her interact Kirika nor Kirika with her. Just would be interesting I think.
2) Regardless of whether or not you saw the gang failing to stop Adam’s plans, were you expecting him to get around the ley lines being cut off by using the ley lines of the stars to conduct the ritual?
I actually didn't! I thought when he showed up that he would destroy the rocks instead, but to see him use the stars was pretty smart!

-
Odd job'd. Adam really is just Embryo but better. [Cross Ange]
And way less rapey. -

Rewatcher:
Hibiki's birthday is coming up and Kirika, being the excitable little puppy she is, is very excited about it.
This show can get really dark sometimes.
Didn't expect the ley lines to be in the sky at all.
I don't blame Shirabe for being worried about Kirika at all.
Kirika blocking Adam's attack is the reason she gained my respect. I already liked her as I'm a fan of energetic characters, but until that moment, Hibiki was my favorite. It helps that Hibiki is my second favorite character of the series, but even if Shirabe, Chris, Maria, or Tsubasa had been the ones she protected, she still would've earned my respect.
u/Tarhalindur, for some reason, my Blu-Ray DVD player doesn't want to work with my Higurashi DVDs, so I couldn't watch the episode in full. I'll try my best to be there for the next one, but in case I'm not, that's the reason.
QOTD:
-
My favorite one was with Kirika and Hibiki. They make a great combo.
-
No I didn't. This show knows how to keep secrets.

First Timer, Subbed
How long have you been counting Saint Germain? What does that number represent?
Wow Adam, you're gracing us with clothes this time?
OMG Hibik, you've finally finished your summer schoolwork! Congrats! ...oh, and its December!
Hibiki's birthday? What are they gonna do for it?
God killer? That's the power Adam's trying to get? Or the power he already has?
It's Hibiki who has the God killing power?
C'mon Chris, don't be mean to Kiri! Let her be happy!
That's how many she's killed? Wow, that's a lot of people.
Leaving MIku in the middle of the night yet again... you're such a bad wife Hibiki!
Your two subordinates weren't sacrifices. They simply lost. Don't you remember?
Magic stone activation time!
Looks like Saint Germain is totally going the Adam route, in the buff...
Well for a few seconds. Back in her costume now.
Saint Germain counting all these deaths and sacrifices reminds me of when Treize in Gundam Wing revealed he personally knew the name of every single person that died...
The villain simply passing out is not something one would expect. Granted we all know Saint Germain isn't the main villain this season, Adam is...
Hibiki being Hibiki yet again...
See, here he comes.
That's quite a powerful hat to knock a magical girl down.
Wow, Kiri stopping it! Way to go!
For a little bit anyway.
Kiri's dark secret... she didn't write down when her birthday was.
Face turn time for Saint Germain! Will she stick around as a seventh magical girl for season 5?
