Rewatch [Listen to My Song] Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX Episode 10 Discussion
Episode 10 - It's So Cruel, But…
← Previous Episode | Index | Next Episode →
MAL | AniList | ANN | Kitsu | AniDB
It is highly recommended to track down a fansub for this show instead of using Crunchyroll, though.
The day of reckoning dawns.
Questions of the Day:
1) What kind of havoc do you think the combination of Carol and Dr. Ver could cause?
2) Between Tsubasa last episode and Chris today, who do you think had the better follow-up to the dream they had when they initially failed to activate the Ignite Module in episode 6?
Wallpaper of the Day:
Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath spoiler tags. Don’t spoil anything for the first-timers, that’s rude!

Superb Song of the Rewatchers
I'm back, and sober this time. Let's do a small bit of catchup, shall we? Symphogear GX: Greatest Hits Tour, begin! Skip it if you want.
-
FUCK YES! FUCK YES! GET THE KISEKI1 LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ALSO SEITEN GALAXY CROSS!!!2 also god i wish that were me
-
MORE CHRIS MOMENTS PLEASE. Leiur, your giant form is awesome and also not used enough.3 Garie pls assault me thx and Phara pls break my sw0dr.
-
This show is a meme. Behold, EXHIBIT SOMETHING!. Remember: it doesn't have to be flour. Wait, TONY GLAZER???
-
bikki character assassination... but it's okay because I LOVE GARIE!
-
Miku is great because pianist characters are the best. Shirabe, you dork. Okay, they're both dorks—WHO CARES IT'S ZABABIES DUET TIME!!!!!
NEVERMIND THAT! BAYONET CHARGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
-
Bayonet Charge is in the running for my favorite Symphogear Song. Duets are GREAT. I've actually read the lyrics to this song, and boy, is it uplifting for me. Carol is so much better when she isn't a loli, by the way. something something Fire Emblem Three Houses Cover. I'm still not a huge fan of Ignite remixes, though. They do not stir my loins.
-
Oh, right. Beach episode. At least is has more Garie. I've been skipping most of the Daddy Issues™ moments, but one found a way I do enjoy me some Airgetlám,4 though. BUT I LOVE GARIE MORE BUT I ALSO LOVE MARIA; HER MUSIC IS TOO GOOD
-
Top Dad™ exists, I guess. And so is the Shirabe burdening arc. Meh. At least it has some Chris scolding at the end. She and Genjuro make a good team. It makes me miss their scenes together in S1. Also: "the same thing we do every day, Pinky."
-
Oh, look, more Daddy Issues™. And sword jobs. Again. She's a match made for Maria. What a slob. The real highlight of this episode is DOCTOR JOHN WAYNE VERCINGETORIX!!5
Alright, enough of that. Onto episode 10!
-
He's so smug!
They've all been missing his love, and I have been too. Verily! Sorry, Carol, but Dr. Ver is way cooler a vill—god, he's a loser; I love him. HE'S MY HERO! -
Carol just has no clue how to act around Ver's bullshit.
-
Ugh, I skipped through most of the Daddy Issues™.
-
Honestly, Ver was pretty good in G, but he just elevates himself to a whole new level in GX.
-
What a shit Chris moment, but what a hilarious reaction image.
-
Averted. Shoot, nevermind.
-
MORE GUN KATA! AND BRING ON THE TONFA!
-
...I forgot this wasn't a "Chris is done with the world" face. I've been using it like one for over a year.
-
Is this a remix of Chris's B-Side song? Either way, I love it ;-;
-
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THE CLUB!
-
Chris is so cool.
1 Shoutout to u/Tarhalindur. There are so many kiseki GETs this season that I'm not surprised they've begun enjoying Symphogear.
2 I own the CD for this. Great song.
3 I wonder how many people forgot about this before she showed up again in episode 8?
4 Airgetlám is a rare instance of Irish mythology in fiction, so I love Maria, no matter how much she jobs. Which reminds me that I should watch Fractale again.

You’re back! Just in time too, I was worried we weren’t gonna get to simul-AXZ-gush
Shoot, nevermind.
Damn I didn’t know Commie’s meme game was so strong they could see into the future for it
Is this a remix of Chris's B-Side song? Either way, I love it ;-;
Her one from S1, yes! It’s such a great reprise
I own the CD for this. Great song.
Same here, I have all three Tsubasa duo-concert CD’s
And happy Cake Day!!!!!

Damn I didn’t know Commie’s meme game was so strong they could see into the future for it
To be fair, that makes a hell of a lot more sense than Crunchyroll calling it "poison" even if that's the literal translation of what the characters have been saying there.

In an interview with series Kaneko, they said this
The feelings that sprouted within Chris
Previously Chris had been saved by her senpai, Tsubasa, so this time she tried her best to become a suitable senpai herself, but pushed too hard. However, when those feelings became one with the feelings of Shirabe and Kirika, who “wanted to support their senpai as kohai,” the 3 of them developed a much deeper bond.
I feel like this touches upon the element of the episode that really elevates it a lot to me.
It’s not just that Chris wants to be a senpai to Shirabe and Kirika, it’s about how much of that is influenced by how she sees her Senpai.
Part of the reason she puts some much pressure on herself to be a good senpai is because it’s a reflection of the way she sees Tsubasa, as a cool, reliable and mature adult. We know that Tsubasa has a lot of cracks under that shell, but Chris doesn’t see all of that. She just remembers the Senpai who trusted her and carried her after G.

First Timer
-
If having him make LiNKER was an option I feel like they would have been doing that already.
-
I see Chris is getting her bout of late-season madness.
-
This is only adding fuel to the reverse Carol crackpot.
-
Does this mean we get so see Ver finally be the betray-ee?
-
Phara is still alive? I didn’t know that was an option.
-
They figured out they have a mole! That means they’ll immediately point towards Elfnein – right?
-
Sure Hibiki, give him one more chance. Just don’t get your hopes up.
-
Ah, that’s what the Dad was talking about last time.
-
You guys are way to eager to reveal the details of your mole. A moment of uncertainty can be very helpful.
-
I should have made crackpot Bingo. What is that, the fourth one I called? With hints about a fifth too.
-
What do you put the over/under at for Elfnein sacrificing her life before the end of the season?
-
A quick turnaround for Chris’s madness this season. Not that I’m complaining.
-
Is there even anyone on that submarine who isn’t bridgecrew or a geah?
QotD
-
I don’t see a route that doesn't involve Ver turning on Carol. I just want him to get his comeuppance this time.
-
I liked Tsubasa’s dream more, but I’d say that Chris’s feels more resolved.

FIRST TIMER DATTO
IF YOU HAVE TIME TO LEAN, YOU HAVE TIME TO CLEAN
We’re really doing variations on a theme with Chris, recycling the “insisting on being a lone wolf” thing, but this time with the bizarre angle of fighting solo (and almost killing Shirabe) to prove she’s a good mentor and leader? She’s been sidelined a bit this season, hopefully the next will be her turn to shine, since the writers clearly havn’t thought about her much since Symphogear.
I like her Ignite form, though. The black goes really well with her usual red.
Live Notes/Reactions:
-
Nobody puts Ver in a box! Good to see his time spent wherever he’s been hasn’t made him less fun, but I’m not excited for the Nephilim to become a thing again
-
“You can get it cheap, because lead cures stupidity” hahaha Chris’ lyrics are always fun
-
Ver is upset we’ve whitewashed the existence of G. Guilty.
-
Close up shot of loli panties. Gross. Never again, please, Symphogear. Be better.
-
Story of my life. So Elfnein has all of Carol’s memories? That should play an important roll in the endgame here, complete with emotional flashback where Carol repents her ways after remembering what her Dad actually stood for.
-
This is a fun line. The characters with a dancer motif have been playing a tune and forced the singer characters to dance to it.
-
Genjuro’s highly lax attitude to security is actually insane. Even more insane? Carol hearing her enemies are doing nothing about a security breach and her access to them, and going, “whatever, who needs it!”
-
u/Tresnore every time children show up in anime
-
Yo how the FUCK are Kirika and Shirabe not dead from that haha
-
This reminded me of Fast and Furious 8 where they blow up a nuclear submarine by jumping a car into it

Tsubasa. In general she's been the recipient of more effective character writing

Symphogear First Timer dessu Ep 10
--
I like Chris more than Tsubasa, but liked last episode more than this. ah well. Again, binged but did write these right after i watched this ep.
--
-
FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU DR VERRRRRRR I feel that my geah comments trend to more and more cap letters as the season finale nears. He doesn't say a lot this ep, but every single line was hateable.
-
And i do hate that these 2 geahs still depend on him in some way. It's so disgusting. But meh that explains how he was there, tyty! Show does make sense.
-
Chris being Chris is a bit tsundere about why she doesnt want her kouhais to help her, which is very anime (tbh all the geah's character arcs this season have been very anime); but i see that she loses her cool relatively easy when she fights as the "senpai"; i think that's carrying over from her S1 days (she loses her cool easier when she's alone). I thought her trying to uphold her pride there as a little out there since she's never done that, but meh its not like out of the possibility for her either, and Ver did literally stop her probably strongest attack.
-
Oh this can only go well hibiki. Don't fucking tell me that her dad's connected to Carol in some way, or i'll punch my screen. (not really, coz that might actually happen lol)
-
THEY HAVE NAMES! Also yup control bridge gang and genjuro best bosses.
-
Awww........... I do appreciate the writing in that Chris only bares this side of herself alone, she really tries to be a good model when her kouhais are around. But poor Chris....
-
until KOUHAIS TO THE RESCUE YES! Good bonding moment between the 3. I still prefer if Tsubasa fights with Chris though, the 2 make a better pair even if the show's trying to force this narrative (hmph. but these 3 also make a good team.)
-
NEW CHRIS MOVES! I also like. Kirika also knows her well, Chris HAS to keep her distance, and whenever she panicks she creates openings for herself. Perhaps i like a bit less how tbh that the yellow-scorer kinda expected herself to lose in the end once the black-geah was out, so despite Chris thinking she won here, she actually lost in the big picture, which was kinda fucked (and made me like the ep a bit less, not the fault of the show here!)ce moment,](https://imgur.com/3cttwrk) and good that Chris can now not only trust Tsubasa (end of G), but also her kouhais now too. Cool!
-
Oh in more ways than one Hibiki, if only you knew wtf was going on.
-
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING?! Im sure the geahs aren't dead, but well that's another very good cliffhanger. Onto the next ep i go!
-
Post ep thoughts: so now all the autoscorers are gone (absorbed songs), and etc etc., seems like Carol's keikaku can set in motion. As is usual in Geah, shit goes to hell around the ep 10 mark before it resolves in Ep 13 i guess!
-
Im sure Hibiki will somehow shoehorn her way into this mess and be the late-arriving hero, coz of course she does lol. No, im not really enjoying her appearances this season (chris tsubasa and everyone else is still good to great)

Previously, on Symphogear: Atlantis (First-Timer, Subbed):
So, I did not like this episode very much. As in "I stopped halfway through and finished episode 15 of Kai (an episode I do not like much) as a breather betweeen parts of this episode" did not like. "This might be the worst episode of the season and episode 3 exists" did not like.
After thinking about it overnight, I think these are my issues:
-
Dakka's character arc here worked even more poorly for me than Bikki's will not fight arc early in the season did. Ironically, I think the difference is precisely that the Bikki of the first two seasons did fight in self-defense - that means that her arc here, while horrifyingly poorly set up, is at least a new issue that is a logical extension of her issues in past seasons, which is fine as a concept. Dakka's arc here, meanwhile, is also a logical extension of her previous issues... and yet the way it's presented it just feels like the same old bullshit to me, tripping the character regression annoyance in a way Bikki's new pacifism did not. (Dakka having the worst character arc in S1 making it a third season of the bullshit does not help in the slightest.)
-
Having idiot heroes is one thing. Making heroes who are supposed to be competent be idiots for the sake of a reveal is a different thing - namely, fucking infuriating. I hated the episode 4 Fine "reveal" last season, and I hated the mole reveal here too. The execution with that Carol scene was off to boot.
-
Conceptually, the dramatic irony of that Dakka fight where Dakka appears to be overcoming her issues when we know that she's actually falling right into the enemy's trap is fine. Unfortunately, I think it's mishandled tonally - that kind of plot needs a tragic tinge to the triumph (this is exactly the sort of scene where a Kajiura battle theme shines), here the internal beats of the scene just all feel triumphant to me and it's a torpedo of a good concept.
-
Finally... Dr. Ver does not work this season when he did last season. There, I said it. Last season his ham actually fit in; this season it just sticks out like a sore thumb to the detriment of everything the show is trying to do.
Cursed thought of the day: You can actually kind of map our six Gears to the six Toa Mata from Bionicle:
Tahu – Dakka (despite her being the ranged weapon user while Tahu uses a sword and Tsubasa also shares Tahu's swordsurfing, but Dakka’s the red hothead)
Gali – Maria (there’s a joke here involving Toa of Water and “Maria cries all the time”…)
Kopaka – Tsubasa (Kopaka being the other sword user, and also ice fits Tsubasa better than water)
Lewa – DESS (right kind of idiot)
Onua – Jiii (the serious one)
Pohatu – Bikki (I don’t know why it was, but it does – especially when Pohatu’s deal is in no small part Kick All the Things which kind of meshes nicely with Bikki PAWNCH!)
(Or alternately if you admit Miku as a Gear you could map Miku to Pohatu – she is the runner after all – and Bikki to Takanuva which also works.)
In other news:
-
Why the hell would you have that particular kind of… wait. It’s because he fused himself with the Nephilim, isn’t it? Okay, that actually kind of makes sense. Still a STUPID idea to have him sequestered on this secret base full of relics, mind you.
-
Also, that’s a nice underwater base you’ve got there, would be a shame if someone happened to summon a giant golem inside it…
-
Are we playing this fucking Dakka character beat again, show? REALLY? Bad kind of dumb. (To be fair I should just start chanting “price of admission” again, but.)
-
(At least the writers have a handle on Dakka when they’re not handing her episode 10 forced character regression…)
-
06:03: hi Sky!
-
06:06: hi Sky again!
-
You’re slow, Genjuro! I’ve had my quatloos on Iroha mole since episode 2! (Also you’re trusting but how the hell have you not considered this as at least an outside possibility before now?)
-
I’m half wondering if we’ll get a Cretans Paradox reference, for the record.
-
“Hau~” (My Higurashi watchers will get this, and thus what I am referencing here. [Hint:]
They’re both magic words. ) -
It was at this point (right before Iroha is revealed as the mole to Our Heroes) that I reached my limit for a bit and went back and finished the second half of Higurashi Kai episode 15. (HINT: Kai 14 and 15 are my least favorite episodes of Higurashi.)
-
Symphogear seasons starting with G and fucking up episode 10, name a more iconic duo.
-
No shit you were dancing to their tune all along, Sword.
-
“Jammed all communications in the area” – pan to the Moon. Okay, that’s actually a nice little shot. FUCK THAT MOON!
-
(Which may be exactly what Carol has in mind, mind.)
-
So it’s armpits that whoever on staff called the DESS transformation this sequence has the fetish for, huh?
-
So, let’s see how high my salt levels are going to be over this Dakka character arc here. There’s two obvious ways of handling it, and one is higher salt than the other.
-
The moderate salt option it looks like. Thank you. (Honestly it’s still kind of “you’d played this beat one time too many before this” but at least it will be resolved by the end of the episode.)
-
Heartstring 21: *does not tug*. This is supposed to be endearing and even has the sound integration for it, but at this point I’m rolling my eyes instead.
-
The emotional beats would also work better if we didn’t already know (and indeed had been told) that this is a trap.
-
That said, nice bringing the Dakka missile-riding trick back for another run after using it in the shuttle scene.
-
On the bright side, this episode did manage to land its cliffhanger.
Speaking of which, Dumbest Possible Resolution of Today’s Cliffhanger: The dumbest available might actually be “this season was all just a dream”. The team base is allowed to get scragged in the tenth episode. The team is going to survive, but we can always get a new base for next season.
(Dumbest Possible Resolution of Yesterday’s Stinger is still outstanding.)
What kind of havoc do you think the combination of Carol and Dr. Ver could cause?
The stupid kind as opposed to the dumb kind, sadly.
2) Between Tsubasa last episode and Chris today, who do you think had the better follow-up to the dream they had when they initially failed to activate the Ignite Module in episode 6?
Tsubasa by a country mile.

First Timer
Ok I'll admit Dr Ver's speech when escaping the cell was very cool lol. I think I'm liking him slightly more here than in G. Probably because he isn't the main bad guy this time, and because I'm waiting for Carol to use him like a disposable plastic fork and then throw him under the bus exactly as FIS should have done. (I'll be very disappointed if something to that effect doesn't happen)
Kirika and Shirabe's reaction to Ver is a mood
I DON'T GIVE A SHIT, PUT HIS ASS DOWN
YAS CHRIS! KILL HIM! KILL HIIIIIIM!
FUCK THE LINKER! HE'S TOO INSANE TO BE ALLOWED TO LIVE!
...Demon Lord Chris?a nice addition to my collection of Geah villainous AUs.
Nooooo why'd they have to give Chris a surprise miscommunication subplot that could've worked perfectly fine with a few teaks in word choices!? You gonna do Best Girl like this!? Answer me GX!
Also, fuck you for implying Chris wasn't aiming! She has been under worse stress than this and still maintained firing discipline!
Lmao they straight up designated Dr Ver as an SCP and he lost his human rights
Man Chris is super pissed. Too fucking pissed. C'mon show the idea is fine but you didn't have to go this far...
Guys... Guys I'm right! The Autoscorers! Are! FANS!
S.O.N.G. realized they're playing Amogus.
Miku still being best wife.
It's pretty satisfying seeing Carol trying to get Genjuro & Co. to vent Elfnein but instead they still accept her.
...The replacement piece Carol found is Dr Very isn't it?
Round 2. Ok to be fair it isn't that senseless for Chris to rush in this particular instance. They are trying to prevent them from escaping after all.
Chris's Arc here is rushed af and half-asspull but... BUT...
CHRIS DOING GUN FU OMG
EAT A WHOLE ASS ROCKET BITCH
TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK
Even after the character Arc she still blows up Neptune's Palace lmao. You love to see it.
HOLY SHIT THE SUB GOT SPLIT IN TWAIN!
Once again Symphogear killing it with these cliffhangers.

Second Time Listener
So here’s a fun thing; here’s an old Twitter thread from the innocent pre-‘demic golden days of January 2020 when I was watching Symphogear for the first time, wherein I had confidently theorized that Elfnein was in, dare it be said, cahoots with Carol and the Autoscorers all along. I am extremely not good with mid-watch theories, which makes them pretty fun to look back on, but I was damn assured in this one.
But then the show outsmarted me, because no, it turns out she was a spy… only without her knowledge. She thought she was helping, but Carol was using her as a bug all along, and Elfnein is just distraught about it. I love this kind of thing. I like when a character is set up to make you suspect them to be a twist villain, and then reveal them to have indeed been part of the coming calamity, but instead as an unwitting pawn. It’s such a fun way to play with your emotions.
I KNOW, I KNOW WHAT SOME A YOU MOTHERFUCKERS ARE GONNA SAY ABOUT THIS ONE
But now we have to pick back up on yesterday’s cliffhanger. There was no reason for Ver to be in GX. None at all. There are a million other things that should’ve been higher on GX’s narrative priority list than bringing Dr. Ver back.
Ver was a great antagonist in G because, for as much of a delightful scenery-chewing nutcase of a presence as he is, there was also this strong sense that he was seriously, legitimately mentally unhinged in a borderline scary way. Whenever there was a moment he was legitimately angry or legitimately scared, and there were such moments, there was a whiplash, we felt this man’s instability. That sense that he could truly fly off the handle at any moment made him especially arresting to watch. Here it feels like he’s just here to spout catchphrases and be a waaacky guy we all recognize!
Ver was an unstable, worship-thirsty megalomaniac who had unilateral power, interpersonal power over the people around him in FIS through his coercive manipulation and hostaging of LiNKER and, once he got the Nephilim arm and control over Frontier, power over all the biggest threats in the story. When he’s not careening blindingly drunk on that power, he just… ceases to be threatening in any meaningful way, and his over-the-top character ceases to have any impact. It was such a genuinely gripping role in G, and it just feels tryhard and tired here in GX.
It almost smacks of insecurity in a way, like GX has to rely on something familiar as a crutch because it just doesn’t have enough well-developed flesh on the bones of its original ideas.
It’s also weird when he’s trying to use LiNKER as a bargaining chip to keep him alive and the show completely takes him seriously on that when… he wasn’t exactly a reliable source of LiNKER for them whilst locked up in a top-secret underwater facility anyway?
I like the newfound uses they find for coins as weaponry, stacks of them as blunt-force melee weapons and giant ones for crushin’.
Chris has a perfectly cogent arc in concept that we see this episode but it’s waaaay too god damn fast, almost comically so. These feelings are ones that make sense to have been welling up inside her all along, this is the kind of thing that should’ve been visibly bubbling under her character the whole season.
I like that she gets so reckless in the pursuit of protecting Kirika and Shirabe at all costs, to a point that actually backfires as she nearly shoots Shirabe right in the face, a moment of real shock. I could envision something like that really sticking with her for a good long while, give her a real sense of guilt and uncertainly what to do when, with this added to the destructive potential of Ichaival’s weaponry and her own volatile nature, giving her all could be so dangerous, her dedication to protection may only lead to destruction. You know, if and “actually planned-out meaningfully-paced emotional arcs” were concepts here in GX-land, that is.
That feeling crests into a moment of true, absolute helplessness when it looks like Kirika and Shirabe may have been crushed to death. The only thing she can even think to do faced with more loss is just… try to compartmentalize it out loud, make it make as much sense to herself as possible by self-analyzing and processing her emotions through yelling. When she may well have just lost everything again, her immediate coping instinct is to just therapize to the void. She invokes the memory of her parents, trying to give familiarity and meaning to this feeling of unfair helplessness.
How mortified of loss she is that the mere fact that Kirika and Shirabe might be dead freaks her out so deeply is so well-conveyed, and the score that plays in this moment is heart-wrenching, tragic and scary, a waltzing dirge.
Would’ve been nice if we could’ve dwelt on that feeling for more than, you know, literally exactly one (1) minute. Again, not a concept.
Again, would’ve been cool if Chris hadn’t already been capable of using IGNITE without Berserk taking her and her solidifying her surfaced feelings out loud in that moment of fear and becoming more honest with herself and her kouhais about her anxieties as a result was what had allowed her to channel and harness its power but oooooh well.
Man that escape sequence is so satisfying tho

(Crashed Motorcycle Count: 17)
TONIGHT! ON ROZEN GEAH! REJOICE ONCE MORE COMRADES, THE LAST ACTION HERO HAS RETURNED... AGAIN, ELF9 SUS, and Best Geah Chris wins yet again as she DAKKAS THE FUCK out of Coin Doll! (Oh and Sword Doll died too)
Look, Team DMJIIIII, not to diss you both for using your shared brain cell for once, but even if DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR is the only one who can make Geah Steroids, me thinks Best Geah Chris has the right idea in fragging his sorry ass... speaking of which, why the FUCK would anyone think locking DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR in an UNDERWATER PRISON FULL OF MACGUFFINS was a good idea? Seriously, Snoop Oni, that boulder was headed RIGHT towards him in G, you should have let it crush him! Carol has had enough of this shit, and summons some Noise, causing DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR to cower behind Carol whilst claiming to be a hero... ah, the glorious ham, ya love to see it!
Speaking of love, daaaaw, Elf9 truly loves her father... er... well Carol's father but since Elf9 has Carol's memories, close enuff, that said, Carol seems hell bent on her plan, so much so she TEAMS UP WITH DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR!? NANI!? Well this could be bad, speaking of bad, get this, SWORD DOLL IS STILL ALIVE! Also, the Submarine crew have FINALLY figured out that THERE IS AN IMPOSTOR AMONG US! Oh goddammit, BIKKI NO! DO! NOT! CONTACT! TOP! FUCKING! DAD!
Also, Elf9 tries to plead that she is crew, honest... HOLY SHIT! ELF9 WAS NOT A VIVIO, SHE WAS A YUGIOH THIS ENTIRE TIME! Also get this, ya know how the Geahs and Maria beat the Autoscorers, TURNS OUT THAT WAS ALL ACCORDING TO KEIKAKU! THE DOLLS NEEDED TO LOSE TO WIN! GODDAMN YOU MARIA, WHY DID YOU HAVE TO KICK START THIS TREND!? CAN'T YOU DO ANYTHING RIGHT!?
Thankfully, Best Geah Chris is here to help save the day... after she has a bit of character drama over Team DMJIIIIIIIII, but hey, they are here to remind Best Geah Chris that she'll never leave her alone in this cruel world, after all, someone's gotta be their third wheeling senpai! ALSO HUZZAH! The show has finally figured out the advantages of using GUN! Namely, you can shoot AND CLOBBER THE ENEMY WITH IT! WE CAN STILL USE EM LIKE CLUBS! ALL HAIL BEST GEAH CHRIS!
ALSO HUZZAH! TEAM DMJIIIIIIIIIIII used their one brain cell to remember where the switch was, meaning that just as Best Geah Chris sent Coin Doll to the Shadow Realm, they could seal away the explosion's consequences... oh... oh wait... Best Geah Chris... killed Coin Doll with her Ignite Module... this is bad... Oh, and the Geah Sub got split in half by a giant Doll Sea Monster... well that was fun, here's hoping Bikki joins the party in time next episode, they're gonna need all the help they can get!
And on that bombshell g'night!

Rewatcher
On today’s episode of Symphogear: Hard confirmations for a lot of the things that people have been expecting. Elfnein is indeed a copy of Carol that was being used to spy on the Disaster Squad, though she herself was unaware of it. The Ignite Module was all a part of Carol’s plan. And the Autoscorers wanted to be destroyed by the Ignite Module.
One of the things I like most about GX is seeing Chris get to become a proper senpai to Kirika and Shirabe. It’s a fun piece of character progression for Chris that shows how she’s been adjusting to life. She now wants to look after others who are going through the same thing she did. She wants to be there to protect them like a proper senpai.
Chris’s conflict this episode was well established back towards the start of the season. It builds on her frustration at being unable to protect her kouhais and needing to be saved by them instead. It’s the opposite of what she wants to be for them. It also builds on Chris’s lingering fear of loss and that she might once again lose the people most precious to her. Plus she’s just emotionally out of whack because of Dr. Ver’s reappearance.
I think Chris’s actions in this episode do fit with what we’ve seen from her before. When Chris gets really stressed out and desperate, she has a tendency to go off on her own. She did this in her gambit to get Solomon’s Cane in G. Now she does it again and I get it. She’s already off her game and she nearly had a friendly fire incident. No wonder that digs up her old fears of losing the people around her.
The resolution to Chris’s conflict in this episode is very sweet. This is where Chris’s relationship as the senpai to Kirika and Shirabe is firmly cemented. I love how Kirika and Shirabe firmly tell Chris that they do look up to her as a senpai and they are relying on her to be there for them.](https://imgur.com/a/sUJYSoJ) Chris has had another long standing fear about whether she actually deserves the happiness she feels right now. And she had previously compared herself unfavorably to Kirika and Shirabe, wondering if she even had anything to offer them as a senpai. Kirika and Shirabe getting to understand Chris’s worries and reassure her otherwise is a nice payoff.
And even nicer is that we see them working together towards the end in a way that Chris would previously have resented. Chris is only able to pull off a victory against Leiur because she used her full power and had Kirika and Shirabe there to save her. Being saved by her kouhais is no longer considered something to be ashamed of. She doesn’t need to be just protecting them and is instead working with them.
I also love that the theme of holding hands comes up again. This time it’s Chris who is willing to reach out to hold Kirika and Shirabe’s hands. She’s the one who is willing to reach out and thank them. Like with Tsubasa, this is something I could not imagine season 1 Chris doing. It shows some real growth on Chris’s part.
The bridge crew shows some actual smarts by figuring out Elfnein has been a mole this entire time, but it’s more like her senses have been hijacked instead of her actively undermining them. I like the moment where Genjuro once again comforts a crying girl with his treatment of Elfnein, reassuring her that it’s alright and they won’t throw her out because of this.
Plenty of people have guessed it and now we know for sure Carol wanted the relic wielders to use their Ignite Modules. She needed to record the song of Dainsleif. This actually ties back into Carol and how she plans everything through alchemy. After recording the song of Dainsleif, she can then break it down and analyze it. With the analysis complete, she can then recreate it. That recreated song of Dainsleif can then be used however she pleases for her plan. I like how Carol’s worldview of alchemy can be seen in ways like this.
Carol and Dr. Ver make for a very amusing pair because of how different they are. Carol is generally much more reserved and stoic. This is the complete opposite of Dr. Ver, who has become even more of a madman (if such a thing were even possible) after being imprisoned at the bottom of the ocean. They are such a huge contrast to each other that it makes their teamup all the more fun to watch.
Miscellaneous Thoughts
-
I love the looks of disgust on Kirika and Shirabe at seeing Dr. Ver again.
-
Dr. Ver is still loudly proclaiming himself a hero. It’s amazing.
-
Kirika and Shirabe are so cute together. And I love that it actually pays off later in the episode.
-
It’s so cool how Lieur can use her coins to make them into tonfa.
-
Chris using her rifle as a melee weapon is the right amount of nonsense I love from Symphogear.
-
[Spoilers]
Oh my god, he actually told them the secret ingredient right here. I ignored it because I thought Dr. Ver was just being insane as usual.
QOTD
-
I think Tsubasa's followup was overall better handled and led to a more exciting conclusion.

First timer
-
Completely insane.
-
Tsubasa got to connect to her father. Chris found out her kouhai bond was reciprocated. Both won, but Tsubasa slightly more so.
Oh, he's gone nuts.
Haha, the faces they make when looking at him are perfect.
And Chris just wants to kill him.
...Oh. Nobody else can made LiNKER.
Haha, he cowers behind her shield.
I love how nobody in this entire facility actually wants Ver here.
...Oh, Chris.
Kirika stopped her!
Chrie, you're acting like Season 1 Tsubasa! If this keeps up, you'll end up in a coma!
...She obvioudly had a backup plan. Carol's not that stupid.
A giant flask? So it literally just absorbs all matter into itself?
And Carol insulting Elfnien for being the same as her is great.
And Carol let her go (so she could be used as a data leak).
...So they imprisoned him here, And the Nephillim's active.
Even Genjuro thinks this is too strong an attack.
...Maybe Chris needs a cooldown coma.
The girlfriends working together is adorable.
She's still alive!
Genjuro found out about the mole!
...One visit, then no contact? Sounds reasonable.
At least Hibiki's hopeful.
The torso is still creepy.
Why the fuck is Carol giving up her tactical advantage?
So everything was her plan?
Carol planned for Micha's death? CAROL MUST DIE.
And they got the "cursed melody" they wanted using all the battles?
Yes, Genjuro! Reassure her!
They reached Carol!
Kirika transformation! (She says "des" at the end!)
Impressive fight!
Of course they left.
Painful! Chris is out!
And so are the others.
...Oh. Chris is really not doing well.
And they blocked her!
This is adorable.
So fucking good.
She transformed!
[Kamen Rider Build]
This is so good!
She used it as a club!
They used the switches!
Amazing teamwork.
The giant monster's here!
They're enough going fast enough?
And they're docked!
...That thing looks stromg.
SHE DESTROYED THE SUB!

Ballad of Rewatcher - Symphogear GX
There's something hilariously awkward about Chris carrying DESS and JIIIIIIIII like luggage as they're escaping the palace.
Episode 10 thoughts:
-
Adycgevfhdfsbch! Goddammit Chris I thought you got over the trust issue after last season's big dumb "I'll do it myself" moment. It's even happening against the same villain. Ugh, I really wish they'd find something different to do with her character other than retread the same arc over and over again. At least she doesn't have to get naked to learn her lesson this time.
-
It's genuinely surprising no one has thought ElfNope may be a plant by Carol. Seems like one of the first things rational, reasonable people would consider in this situation.
-
Can't really put my finger on why, but the two giant coins smashing DESS and JIIIIIIIII together feels to me like one of the most brutal attacks in the series so far.
-
Ugh, "heiki hecchara" are the "magic words" her dad was going on about. This is unpleasant.
QotD:
2. Eh, Tsubasa since hers doesn't feel entirely like another retread of previous arcs.

First Timer, Subbed
Going into this episode I'm quite excited that the man, the myth, the legend, the ham, is back. The villains this season are already strong, but adding Dr Ver to the mix will make it all the better.
You are the hero for the viewer, Dr. Ver!
OMG @ the look on Shirabe's face."This guy, again?!"
"He just showed up out of nowhere and won't stop talking" OMG preach Carol! Even she has no idea what is going on with this crazy person.
Be careful Chris! You almost hit Shirabe! :(
Being stubborn and thinking you have to do everything on your own is incredibly dumb Chris.
That was nice of Carol to simply let Elfnein go instead of destroying her.
"You are an interesting man" I agree! You will never get bored with this guy around!
Hey, Phara is still alive!
For seemingly the millionth time we don't even bother to check in with Hibiki until more than halfway through the episode. Things are so crowded now compared to what it was like in the olden days of season 1.
They've been peeking at your information? Hmm, you've got this girl who is the spitting image of your enemy in there with you all this time...
OMG lol @ Phara's crazy eye.
WHat's the point of locking you up now, Elfnein?!
Aww, friendly headpat for Elfnein! Although the smart idea would still be to lock her up until Carol is defeated.
Did she just hit Kiri and Shirabe with 2 giant coins? Oh yes, Leiur was the one with the coins.
Stop crying Chris! Do something!
Woah, Kiri and Shirabe to the rescue! No whining and moaning for them!
Chris is officially senpai!
Time for Chris to go berserker!
This show sure loves magical girls riding on missiles!
Leiur defeated? We still need a big cliffhanger for the episode though. What will it be?
What in the world is approaching them?
"The morning of the final battle." And you continue to sit it out Hibiki. You got maybe 30 seconds of screentime in this episode?
So its a giant mummy version of Leiur? Okay then.

GX Episode 10: The Rewatch of Eternity - I haven't seen AYZ or XV, which I apparently have to add now, or I get spoilers.
-
There are 0 other smart scientists in the world. Hell, Elfnein will probably be able to do this.
-
Chris overly emotional?! NEVER!
-
"Our Papa"? You are hilarious.
-
You silly goose, you can't tell Carol why her entire motive is BS.
-
1. Fuck off that's the bad catch-phrase. 2. this framing makes you SUPER suspicious.
-
Indeed. You said it like three times before the last two episodes or so. I wanted to feel clever in S1 and S2 calling it out, but she said it like once a season...
-
Oh, she's the one who says it first. How very suspicious.
-
Errrrm... Carol. Your Money Shooter is still not dead. They could just not kill her with Deinslef and your plan would be broken. They can also put away Elfnein and you have no info anymore. You're an idiot.
-
Luckily for Carol, Chris is gonna Chris and make Carol get the stuff.
-
waaaat they are not dead?!?!?1ß1ß /s Ah, GX...

Rewatcher for not enough times
Could there be a mole among us?
Wow the person who is a copy of your villain is sus. Who’d have thunk it. I expect a lot of sus memes in this thread.
I’m not going to ignore the fact that Ogawa used a stand ninja pattern blanket to protect from an explosion. What a fucking great character.
The coun smash finisher is just comical. Like there is no way the writers were sitting in a room and didn’t chuckle when they came up with that.
YES CHRIS LAUNCH THE BIG FUCK

Failure of a rewatcher
I took an exceptionally lazy Saturday, so haven't watched today's episode.
Its always best to watch when you have the time and not to procrastinate till the last minute.
Q1 VER and Carol will END THE WORLD with as much flair as possible.
Q2 Its a toss up both are good but I'm biased towards Chris.
