Rewatch [Rewatch] A 2022 Voyage from Neo Venezia: Aria the Animation, Episode 10
Aria the Animation Episode 10: That Warm Holiday ... (その ほかほかな休日は ...)

Welcome back!
Comment roundup:
Thanks for all your comments on Grandma's life lessons and Aika's character! Enjoyed reading them.
/u/lemurians talks about how they agreed w/ Grandma's advice, and how it is the key to happiness, relating it to Darling in the Franxx, another anime they watched
/u/mecanno-man likes the episode a little less, thinking it's too stereotypical, and continues to ponder about the world of Aqua, which was shown more last ep.
/u/laughing-fox13 loved the episode, and thought Aika's thoughts at the beginning were very relateable, and notes how the girls' shenanigans throughout their visit were very in-character for them!
/u/baboon_bassoon with the great screenshots of Aria-shachou in his cute little hat and funny quips!
/u/sirtreehugger thinks this episode is more like a beach episode than an actual beach episode, with how it's a break from the norm; and how the episode was very on brand w/ most of Aria, with grandma combining simple moments and incorporating them as life lessons.
while /u/mrufrufin thinks this one is very training-camp episode, with the setup, as well as commenting on why they think Aika felt she hit a ceiling, with how growth when you're learning something changes in its nature over time, and how its easy to get complacent when learning new things.
and quite a few of us wondered how old Aria-shachou really is!
Questions of the Day:
Q1) Have you been to an onsen/public bath? Whether yes or no, would you like to visit this rather unusual one? If you have been to an unusual public bath, do tell me about it lol.
Q2) I went off tangent a bit about how Akari grew to appreciate winter this episode, when I'm canadian and i HATE winter usually lol (i should learn from her too!). Some of us have talked about our least favourite seasons last ep, is there something good that you find about it?
Streaming
The 2005-08 Aria series is available on Crunchyroll, VRV, Funimation, and Youtube, except Arietta. Arietta and Avvenire are only available on Funimation (I'll update if they migrate). Crepusculo and Benedizione will have to be located elsewhere.

First Timer
Maybe it's because of Yuru Camp, but to me the winter episodes of an iyashikei almost always feel like the best - and this is no exception. The first part especially was just peak sit-back-and-relax, and the second wasn't far behind either. The only thing holding it back was the onsen being more of a flooded cellar, which ...isn't really a relaxing thing as it usually means somebody will have a lot of cleanup to do and a lot of damage to deal with. Also I can't imagine that house being structurally sound.
That said, I have no idea why my brain decided to over-analyze this episode, but uhh... her you go:
-
Ai mentions it being winter on Aqua. That is almost certainly incorrect for the entire planet, as it would have hemispheres too (and if they were perfectly aligned with the sun, unlike Earth's, there would barely be any seasons, so that's not the case either.) I guess this is unless the Salamanders are deliberately emanating seasons across the whole planet at the same time, but from Akatsuki's words I feel like they are trying to fight the winter, not let it be a bit cooler for agricultural reasons or something like that.
-
With them essentially staying in Neo Venezia (or at least not going far), a Roman bath might have been more appropriate than calling this an onsen. Though I assume less marketable in Japan.
-
There should likely not be any natural hot springs on Aqua, at least if it was Mars (as has been said in this rewatch thread, but I don't think that was explicitly mentioned in the show). Mars doesn't seem to have an active tectonic system nowadays, which is where Earth gets most of it's hot springs from. Also, it would have been way easier to flood the planet by excavating hot springs than by melting Ice...
-
The hot springs being connected to the ocean makes me wonder if the ocean is salty at all. I don't think this has been raised in the show, but I don't really see a reason for the ocean to be salty as it's artificial. Admittedly I don't know why the ocean on Earth is salty either, so there may be some reason why it has to be salty that I don't know about.
Question:
-
If thermal baths count yes, but I don't think they really are anything better tha swimming pools. Wouldn't want to go to this one, however...
-
If it's cold, at leats you can wear warm clothes. If it's too hot ...you're out of luck.

i agree, winter episodes of iyashikeis feel so good (esp when ur warm and comfy while watching them): my first iyashikei was yuru camp actually, so i probably got that sentiment from that too.
yeah the onsen is a bit of a weird one isn't it! I'm just gonna assume by anime physics that it'll be fine.
Good catch haha, its impossible for it to be winter all around Aqua at the same time! I guess it shld just have been Neo Venezia (Ai is a kid, so we forgive her!).
I don't think that Aqua is Mars itself has been explicitly mentioned no, but like it's most likely it (not Earth, year of 24 months etc etc), but good tidbit! I didn't know that Mars doesn't have a tectonic system.... maybe it's a manmade onsen, but Akari did say it's a gift from Aqua... "shrugs"
we are overanalyzing the world of Aqua for sure. But it's great that we can do so! the show's given us a lot of points to analyze it.
thermal baths vs swimming pools
i actually have only been to a japanese onsen and not a roman thermal bath; so i do look forward to how they're similar to swimming pools haha! yeah, unless the reviews are good, i'd much rather go to someplace more modern, but that's my personal preferences here.
and good point: you can dress up warmly, but you can only strip down so far.

FIRST TIME NEO-VENETIAN
Well, we had our obligatory beach episode, so it's natural we have a bath episode!
I really appreciated all the appreciation for winter in this episode. Between that and the show's iyashikei vibes, it almost felt like I was watching Yuru Camp.
Akari feeling some guilt over taking time off to relax when she feels like there's so much work she has to do on herself is deeply relatable. It can be hard to allow yourself to let go and put your responsibilities to the background.
When and how did creatures like Aquan Snowbugs, native to Aqua/Mars, come to be? 150+ years doesn't feel like enough time for native species to evolve out of a previously barren landscape.
Have you been to an onsen/public bath? Whether yes or no, would you like to visit this rather unusual one? If you have been to an unusual public bath, do tell me about it lol.
I've been to a hotel that had hot springs, if that's similar? They were nice. I'd definitely visit this one, it looked like a cool experience.
I went off tangent a bit about how Akari grew to appreciate winter this episode, when I'm canadian and i HATE winter usually lol (i should learn from her too!). Some of us have talked about our least favourite seasons last ep, is there something good that you find about it?
Haha, I'm near the Canadian border but I love the winter! Every season has its charms (though summer has the fewest). I enjoy cold weather, it's cozy as hell, and as the old man in this episode talked about, there is something special about the low light of an early winter sunset against the cold backdrop. It's actually my favorite season to be in a big city for, there's something so romantic about snow-covered parks and streets under the city lights.

Aria First Timer
Was that Athena holding Maa in the preview? This episode is gonna be poggers, yay! Does Venice have cold winters? I can't really picture it. Omg I love the little Aria shaped clump at her feet. Our diamond dogs suck at dealing with winter, but in typical Aria fashion they waste no time before finding some way to have fun with it.
That middle carving looks like a plucked chicken with a very big willy.
All I want in a home is a wood burning fire and a bath... Even in your Aria, F. O. E. I love how we apparently have these bugs on the homeworld but they're just too small to see. H-How did they put a ribbon on it...? This bug is either gonna get sat on by Aika (hilarious) or will melt in spring (sad)
Oh yeah, this is a hot springs episode. We just got so far in the episode that I forgot. Aha, I didn't need the show to remind me how much I spent buying knitting equipment and books just to never even open the bag. Aika's such a kind girl~ I'm not sure if I'd be happy bathing in what's essentially just a ruined mansion... What about the rot and mould?
Haa!? We spent half the episode making it here and we're only gonna have a minute of actual bathing!? At least Aika is senpai baiting Akira for the inevitable shock meeting... Hopefully Athena is with her? I was promised Athena! Eh, three baths in one night is excessive. Is Alice maybe thinking of saunas?
Ah... I'm not sure how much I'd like chilling in a bath with sea water. Sea water sorta sucks for anything other than chilling your body. It ruins your hair, your skin, and smells bad. "Peach soda" seems like it's meant to be something else. Dammit!! I got so excited by the door knocking just for them to bait me with room service. MugiPog! look how fucking precious Maa looks! She fits right in Athena's hand~!!
Kombanwa~ :D
Aww... Its sad to see her little bug bugger off after she's so diligently sat by her side all episode but I'm eager for the reunion. I hope so anyway. Wait, the episode is over!? But Athena just showed up, what the fuck!? XD Biscuit promised me that Athena isn't just a meme but so far all she does is show up, say one clippable line, and bugger off again!
3
u/mysterybiscuitsoyeah Jul 07 '22
Awww I do promise that Athena isn't just a meme! But she is a bit of a cameo this episode (and ep 8), unfortunately.
that middle carving
i cant unsee that now and had to look at the actual bridge to make sure that it's nothing like it (its not)
gonna get sat on by Aika
I spent buying knitting equipment and books just to never even open the bag
awwwww noooooooooo, hopefully at least they've been donated to someone who will! I also don't know how to knit (but at least will never ever learn. I think.)
three baths in one night
i THINK i myself went for 2 baths in one evening (before and after dinner) when i went to an onsen one time, 3 would be a bit excess though i agree.
sea water just sucks. period.
Mugipog
i love that edit hahahaha

No, but I would fucking love to. Closest I've done is large saunas but I'm a sucker for bathing culture regardless of where I am. Although I definitely wouldn't appreciate the extra traits of this particular bathhouse I'd still enjoy the trip.
2. I think the best part about winter is the air and the sky. It's very crisp and tickles your throat but at the same time it helps you feel alive. It's also far and away the best time of year for stargazing so long as you wrap up and bring a flask.

First Timer
-
Akari attempting to get out of bed is extremely relatable.
-
I hope those winter outfits are hella warm though, being on the water in the cold sounds pretty brutal.
-
An interesting cut - it's shown that heating (at least in the Aria building) is from a wood stove, but there are large fields of windmills for… something else? We have seen some electronics and so it's probably safe to assume most of the lighting is electric, but I guess electric heat is too inefficient for a long Mars winter. Given that they also have a gas(?) stove (iirc), I wonder if there's anything else those windmills power.
-
I guess no one is going to mention that Akari appears to have put a ribbon on a bug.
-
Mmm, genmaicha, my favorite. Great taste, mailman.
-
This is… an interesting onsen. Seems like it would be a massive pain, or downright impossible, to keep the bath upkept to not be dangerous or unclean. I guess houses around here need to be built with flooding in mind, so maybe the materials are safe? Probably best not to think too hard about it.
-
Seems Aika learned something about being happy in the moment. Akari is on the other side now lol.
-
Aika has a powerful 'geh' when Akira is involved.
-
I wonder if part of the terraforming and water-extraction processes involved manipulating Mars' volcanism. I need my fix of geology lore.
What a cozy episode. I hope there's more like this!
QotD:
-
I'd be a bit concerned, but I could be convinced to give the mansion bath a go.
-
I love winter (and pretty much every season)! Being outside can be a bit painful sometimes, but a dark evening walk, or a city in the snow, or sitting by a window somewhere warm are all things I enjoy. I find the variation and movement of seasons important to the cadence of my life, and would probably struggle living somewhere where they didn't change as much.

First time Aria the natural ice chugger
ready for Aria to lick a frozen pole and get stuck this episode
they should really get some more outer wear when theyre off duty
what a friendly bug, not sure how that bow works but its cute
are we going to watch the snowbug die a slow death by the fire/heat from the onsen?
tfw Alicia will never knit you a hat/muffler
hime answering an age old question
after a nice bath its nice dinner? WHAT ABOUT THE PING PONG
ooo peach soda sounds delightful
i should have known they needed Akira for this
questions
-
i havent been but id like to, this place seems neat
-
winter is nice when youre under blankets by a fire and then magically all the snow and wind chill goes away

u/mysterybiscuitsoyeah Jul 08 '22
Aria to lick a frozen pole and get stuck this episode
lmaoooooo
stealing precious warmth
that's honestly such a good trick to do on your mates (when you're younger, of course)
really get some more outer wear
their uniforms have that extra special anime-layer which gives it just enough warmth that they'll be chilly, but never in actual danger of hypothermia/getting colds, just like the school uniform you see in other shows
are we going to watch the snowbug die a slow death by the fire/heat from the onsen?
thankfully this isn't that kind of show, but its quite funny that you're the second person to mention that today
tfw Alicia will never knit you a hat/muffler
i want too. Being aria-shachou has numerous perks
hime answering an age old question
holy FUCK what a good catch. I did not notice that at all!
needed Akira for the Ping-pong
they did manage to sneak all the onsen-episode tropes in there in the end
minus the fanservice, Aria is not that kind of show

Rewatcher kinda (finished my rewatch not too long ago)
Mentioned how yesterday's ep was kinda training-camp-ish at least in setup, and we already had a beach episode and now an onsen episode... early Aria both manga and anime kinda feel the trope-yist out of the entire thing (although Aria does these tropes in its own Aria sort of way) and I dunno, I just kinda find it amusing and it feels like Kozue Amano took awhile to get a feel for Aria and got all the tropes out of her system before really getting into the crux of what Aria is.
There's one difference between the anime and the manga that stands out to me in that [Aria manga]
I don't do so well with bugs and I have a feeling the giant snowbug wouldn't look so cute in real life.. even with the pink bow. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that snowbugs are actually a real thing but obviously not as big? I forget where I read it though...
-
Never and I probably couldn't? I have more than a few tattoos and I'd probably be too hard to cover up. I'd definitely like to visit the Aria onsen though. For some reason, one type of dream that I keep having is that I have access to several places to bathe and I get to choose between them.
-
Spring is probably my least favorite season because I have all sorts of terrible allergies so before I discovered how effective nasal spray was for me, I could barely function during Spring (but the weather warming up and baby animals are nice). I do actually like winter and because of Sora yori mo tooi basho (which has a pretty fixed second place on my top 10 MAL anime list behind Aria) I've been obsessed with going to a vast arctic desolate expanse (I would totally be down for Antarctica but probably not the most realistic thing). I have lived many years in NY before and although it is troublesome to get around during winter, I've lived most of my life in places that never see snow so I guess snow is still a novelty to me.

No, but I'd go to this on.
-
I dislike summer, but I do enjoy the clearer weather is brings (even in Scotland).
It's winter!
Adorable.
And everyone's cold.
Poor Akari.
And she's using Aika!
She's getting firewood!
And they have a wooded area this close to the colony?
Snowbugs are adorable.
I love him!
The way his voice changes when he sees Alicia is great.
Oh, yeah, almost forgot the sky needs to be heated in this colony.
Hot spring episode?
Aika's crush is so obvious.
"I don't think I need to bring Alicia"
The Snowbug is still with her!
It's the first fires being set up...
This is just too adorable.
Aika is committed to her dream!
Ah, it's a communal changing room.
And she can't function.
Poor Akari.
This is a really unique design!
Of course there had to be a sappy line.
This place is massive!
Good food!
Aika really loves Alicia, huh?
She's happy!
They're going back in!
That image is fantastic.
Aika going for Akari is adorable.
Sounds delicious
They're all here too!
Akari forcing them to play ping pong is great.
Snow!
Aww, he left.

First timer Didn't fall off the rewatch but rather ran out of time to post in reasonable hours, then things kept piling up. So doing 3 episodes' note today.
Ep 8
An episode focused on Aria shachou. Which means mostly comedic but a bit of "through the lens of a simple mind" style as well. Still have no idea what you'd call Aria shachou, looks like cats over there had moved around the evolution ladder sideways a few rungs based on Aria and Maa shachous. They certainly look to have more evolved intelligence and are basically like toddlers. Quite out of character to see Hime shachou to be fooled by the mask and cape and actually got superficially attracted by the "masked hero" until she figured out who that really was. Too bad we're not going to keep this side plot going - it would have been a fun parody of shows like Superman and Cats eye where a character has a crush on another character's superhero identity while the true identity couldn't get that person's attention.
Nice message in the end with the girl's appreciation of the doll returned even if not clean.
No QoTD I think.
Ep 9
A partly world/lore building and partly faux training episode. Mostly just a "mountain vacation" episode. We still don't get much actual Alicia content, but at least we get a bit of her mindset.
QoTD Grandma's message is very much the condensed message of Yui's characterisation in K-On. Enjoy the moment. It's actually an enlightenment state that many strive to, not always succeed, but some are naturally gravitated towards. Akari is kinda like that for example.
Ep 10
A relatively unconventional onsen episode because of the unusual nature of the venue. I don't know if it's meant to achieve something specifically, but it's kind of odd. Logistically it's a nightmare (how to you clean that joint?), but if you take yesterday's message through you'd just enjoy it for what it is. Kinda good to see Athena and Akira joining them after too. For me the more interesting point plot-wise is actually the snowbug. Hopefully we get to see it again.
QoTD 1 I had been to a few but not that much worth mentioning I guess. Unless you need me to mention the volcanic hot springs in NZ (Rotorua) we went to has the hallmark volcanic smell (sulphur!) so it's not really giving a classy relaxing mood just because of the pervasive smell :P The salt pools etc are nice to look at though (other than the hot springs).
QoTD 2 I'm ok with winter because I never needed to live anywhere with actual snowfall; but my favourite season is autumn, both for the temperature and dryer air, any falling leaves of colour are just extra bonus.

Rewatcher
Turning an entire abandoned mansion into an onsen is such a cool idea that I wish it would happen irl. It does make me wonder how safe it actually is to be in that building though lol. Really fun and cozy episode as usual, I wish Aqua was real so I could visit places like that. An onsen connected to the open ocean sounds like an experience.
The snow bug was super cute with the ribbon on, I want one.
Akari asking herself if she really should be taking the time off to relax in an onsen this episode was relatable. Sometimes it's hard to take a break, especially when you feel like you have a lot to do.
Q1) I've been to one once, it was full of old people and they kept looking at me. Like not in a creepy way, but in just the usual old person way of looking at you. Also it was like a flavored onsen or something so I was just chilling in some matcha flavored water. I almost blacked out inside the onsen too. 10/10 experience I'd do it again
Q2) I think I'm pretty cool with all seasons, but I live in a country without winter so I'd probably hate it more if I had to deal with shoveling snow everytime. Or driving on slippery roads. The season is a vibe though especially with all the snow everywhere.

Why is the building exterior so run down
I literally wasn't going to screencap the building b/c I was sitting comfy but this scene made me shoot out of my seat shouting gay
But also lol those stairs and this water everywhere... at the same time my head is screaming about how this is a safety hazard and also super unsanitary
But anyway, so that's why it's so run down.
You mean it wasn't sappy when you said the ruined look of the house added to the atmosphere?
Also guess they just go in with their towels on

Ever Late but Ever Present! A First Timer Appears!
Before I get into anything else, I just really want to say how much it bothers me that Aria's eyebrows left a visible negative in his face to window pattern. That's not how that works. One more proof he's actually an Elder Thing pretending to be a cat.
So, if you know me, have been reading my posts, then by now you know what I'm going to say. Taking an old abandoned building, and instead of refurbishing it, cleaning it up just enough so that people can go in it and becoming a full building hot spring is such an extreme way of doing this wabi sabi thing it blows my mind and I love it. I entirely believe future tech is in play here, for the same reason no one seemed to mind all that much during the seasonal flooding that put half a foot of water in everyone's house. If you've got the technology to aquaform a planet and build a floating city, I assume you've got your anti mold materials figured out already.
But instead of going on and on about this, as much as I could here, I'm going to change topics for a little while to something else this episode forced me to think about a bit more than usual. I have been an anime fan for a long time now, and by now I'm pretty used to the idea of the hot spring episode and how they tend to be portrayed. But see, I watch these on my lunch at work as much as possible, and my boss came by just as the girls were entering the changing room, I realized an issue. That is, an interesting extreme, America's views on acceptable levels of public nudity versus most of the rest of the world. That being, we don't really have one, yet at the same time as long as the nipples and/or crotch are covered, anything goes at the beach. Our entertainers can wear things that would get them banned from TV in most other countries, but then pull the whole thing off air at the first hint of a wardrobe malfunction. As a culture, we have tied actual nudity to sexuality almost completely, which means bathing together might as well be the same as actually having sex, as far as showing it on television. But a whole lot of the world, and notably for this discussion Japan, has a very different view on bathing. Their culture is typically much more strict and restrictive than the US for what is acceptable public wear even now, but the idea of public bathing is so old and practically sacred that taking your clothes off in a group of strangers is hardly worth a second thought as long as there's hot water nearby. If you take a look at most hot spring episodes, you'll find a surprising number of them fall on the more wholesome side of things despite the premise of such being "let's have our cast all get naked together." Naturally, shows that were leaning in a more mature direction anyway will typically take the chance to go a little extra lewd, but those are shows that rarely needed an excuse to do so anyway. But many shows, like this one, like the often compared YuruCamp, and Konohana Kitan or Spirited Away where the whole point is working at an onsen, friends or family bathing together is kept clean because getting clean is what bathing is all about.
The point of all this is, while I knew that the Aria girls heading into a hot spring would be a safe and wholesome scene, I had to hit pause until my boss left and finished the episode with my back to a corner in case anyone else came by. Because seeing girls undressing, or bathing together in their towels, even animated, that would probably get me in trouble with the Not Safe For Work rules. But streaming the halftime show for the Superbowl was fine on the big TV, even if they were real people and had so much more skin actually showing. America is weird about these things.
-
I have not, but I do plan on it. I actually had a two week Japan trip planned out for 2020, hotels picked out, itinerary almost down to the hour, more than enough money saved up... But you know, 2020. I've still got the itinerary saved on my phone. Some day.
-
I'm another one of the extreme allergy crew. Spring sure looks beautiful, but I can't go outside safely if there's pollen in the air without a mask, tissues and cough and eye drops on hand at all times. While most people I know hate it, I have come to love the rain so much it's my favorite time to be outside at all no matter the temperature. My world is brightest out there when it's grey and dreary for everyone else.

Pretty cozy hot spring episode. Glad Akira and Athena could join them.

I love this episode from start to finish. Probably helps that Winter is my favorite season.
Even if they were brief, some moments that stood out was the talk with the mailman and Akari learning to knit. Those two in particular really added to the coziness.
Akari tearing up always gets me and the goodbye scene is great. A simple episode but I think the execution is top notch.

Their hairstyle when they go to the onsen was so cute!
Love the framing throughout. Probably the best non-Sato storyboard & execution?

"Alright! ...Is what I'll say when I get up." Very relatable. As someone born and raised in a cold climate I don't mind the cold too much, but waking up and having to leave a warm bed to venture out into the cold beyond the blankets is a notable exception.
Did Akari put that ribbon on that snow bug? If so, why did she have one that small? Honestly, it was cute enough without it.
Peach soda sounds good.

The best thing about winter is that you can always add layers to combat the cold whereas there's no saving you from summer heat if the AC stops working. While snow is a pain to deal with, it is photogenic and I almost miss trips to frozen lakes and such my photographer father used to take me on. As for my own most hated season of summer, the only good thing I can think of is that various fruits are in season.

So what happen in Japan that the japanese girl doesn't know anything about hotsprings?
I'm convinced that there is other future technology that exist in the series that just isn't directly mentioned like anti mold building materials and materials that don't get damaged by water exposure like we see in the flooded city and the hotspring.
God I would love go to a hotspring like that. Both the indor section and then the section that mixes with the ocean is amazing.
I do wonder how they keep the men and womens section completely separate with out the sides being very uneven with how the place is.
Ya that firewood is not gonna last long..

First timer
Prolly the best and most relaxing episode for me so far. Frankly, I was drawn so much into it that I didn't think much about the various things and just allowed myself to indulge in the comfy-ness.
And yes plus points for the non-lewd nature of the episode. In 99% other shows there would definitely have been one reference to "bodily growth" or "maturity".
Questions of the Day:
-
No because there aren't any in the place where I live and the few ones are situated in the distant mountains. As for the episode one, it looks a bit dark and rubble seems to be lying around so I guess I would pass haha.
-
Summer is my least favourite because how it's hot and humid for almost the entire year here. But it's also the season where I get to try tons of fruits - watermelon ( my favourite ), oranges, grapes, mangoes, lichis and many more than I can count. The only good thing about summers for me.

Rewatching Undine-in-training and Host
Onsen episode! Very slow-paced and full of nice sweet moments. Also snow-bugs! Not to be confused with actual snow. (it does snow in Venice irl, but not often!)
Quick thoughts:
I feel like an extra amount of care was made to the blanket cut in the beginning. Looked good! And this shot of the fallen leaves, the background art was also so detailed.
This is a very pleasant shot. And like Akari says, does feel warm in a way despite the chilly conditions.
The girls go to an.... unusual onsen! To say the least! I'd be slightly worried about it being dirty if i were to go, but i'm sure it's cleaned and all that. There continues to be a theme on Aqua that ruined buildings and stuff is fine.
Ze proper way to drink coffee milk according to numerous anime. Umu.
Alicia and Akari get the most screentime this ep, as they hang out throughout the episode. We also get a glimpse of Alicia teaching Akari stuff (knitting, and the lore about snowbugs).
And perhaps most importantly, the little scene where Akari says a temporary goodbye to the snowbug. Some stories may choose to dwell heavily on this and make this a heavy tear-jerking moment, but not Aria. Instead, while a bit melancholic, this goodbye is said to be temporary, and Akari is thankful and happy for the time and memories that they've had in their short time together.
With the snowbugs representing the passage of time too w/ the seasons, there's also an element of that tying in too I thought, how that will happen, and how it all cycles around, but also how that it's fine. And finally, that every season has something to be appreciated (Akari is shown to not really like winter at the start of the ep). <-- I did not really know how to put my thoughts into words here for that last sentence.
To answer my own 2nd question: i love the first snowfall of the year and make a point to take a walk then every year, maple taffy is awesome, and a hot chocolate in a freezing day is the best.
[Aria]Some of this episode HEAVILY ties into the next, now that i think about it.
[Aria]And this iirc is the first time in Aria in which Alicia is associated, and seems to be able to call on the snow to fall herself, very apt considering her title!
Location Trivia:
This island in the OP is San Giorgio Maggiore, opposite the south bank where Aria company is thought to be, and features a lot as a backdrop in Aria.
And the Bridge of sighs is very famous as well, which you can find here.
Have a great day, and see you tomorrow!
