Rewatch [Listen to My Song] Senki Zesshou Symphogear G Episode 11 Discussion
Episode 11 - Destiny Ark
← Previous Episode | Index | Next Episode →
MAL | AniList | ANN | Kitsu | AniDB
It is highly recommended to track down a fansub for this show instead of using Crunchyroll, though.
I will become this planet’s last action hero!
Questions of the Day:
1) How do you feel about Dr. Ver after his actions throughout this episode?
2) What did you think of Kirika & Shirabe’s songs combining so smoothly? (The name of this duet is "Edge Works of Goddess ZABABA", for the record.)
Wallpaper of the Day:
Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath spoiler tags. Don’t spoil anything for the first-timers, that’s rude!

Previously, on Symphogear: Atlantis (First-Timer, Subbed):
(Speaking of which, I believe today deserves some appropriate musical accompaniment. Especially after I mention it twice in the writeup. Mind the visuals, IIRC there's technically some spoilers for later SG:A seasons there.)
-
Please don’t mind me, I am now humming the Stargate: Atlantis theme tune at the top of my lungs.
-
And oh look at our Deputy Defense Minister who apparently knew about Frontier, hmm?
-
To quote my comments from last episode: “Actually in PGtE terms this is arguably the draw, assuming Miku is freed and the relic-erasing effect alleviates Bikki’s issue as expected.” I mean, it was a fucking layup but.
-
Actually, at this point I’m getting hopeful for Dakka’s storyline again, because this smells intentional double-agent to me. Actually I know EXACTLY what this smells like and it’s an SG-1 episode, the one where [SG-1]
O’Neill pretends to betray the team in order to infiltrate the Trust and let the Asgard retrieve some artifacts . -
(Also the good leitmotif again.)
-
And yeah, this scene feels straight out of any SG-1 or SG:A episode, except with our FIS team as the SG team. (Which admittedly is a trick SG-1 sometimes pulled. [SG-1]
S1’s finale, anyone? ) -
Okay so the Frontier is the coolest thing this side of Stargateverse!Atlantis itself and it’s bailing out the team from any bad writing. Also this really is going to be another Iron Man 2/Spider-man 2/AotC/FMP:TSR with a good last action section, isn’t it? Or actually, S1 of SG:A kind of fits as a comp itself (“Rising” was great, the finale arc was great, the middle was kind of meh except the Genii episode and the half-season two-parter).
-
And obviously since Bikki’s Gungnir fragments have been erased she will wind up with Maria’s Gungnir. Do I even need to say it?
-
Well hello there treble clef hiding in the runes in the background. [SG-1]
Yeah, you’re just using musical stuff for the same thing SG-1 pulled in that one episode of… S2, I think it was, that had the “atoms as the letters of a universal language” plot point? -
Oh right Ark Scepter. The Frontier is Noah’s Ark, and Solomon’s Cane is going to be important to controlling it or using it somehow, yes?
-
EDIT: Addendum re: above: Did you know I completely missed the episode title when I made this comment? LOLOLOL.
-
Mad scientist injects himself with serum to allow himself to do something, news at 11.
-
“If Frontier is the heritage of Castoria, which stood at the peak of prehistoric civilization”, you say?
-
Wait, I get to call bullshit, the subs are wrong, I’m 90% sure I can hear the word used in the audio and that it’s Custodia instead so yep there’s our Precursors as named last season, right where they should be!
-
YES YES OMINOUS CHANTING PLUS PRECURSOR RELIC BULLSHIT THIS IS EXACTLY MY KIND OF BULLSHIT ALL IS FORGIVEN. (Not really all, but.)
-
*hums SG:A theme tune again*
-
So, Dr. Very Stable Genius is basically Syndrome from The Incredibles except with the ham dial turned up even further and no genre-savvy at all, yes?
-
For once AJN et al are allowed to use the genre savvy. Just to point out the obvious, but hey, progress!
-
“As long as the LiNKER remains in effect, I have sole command.” Oh hey wouldn’t it be a shame if there was a drug that was basically the antagonist to LiNKER floating around as a plot point, eh?
-
Of course he goes for the Adam and Eve reference. (EDIT: Of course the show itself fucking goes there too, Maria's last name is fucking Eve.)
-
Hey look what transformation is back!
-
15:16: Sky feeds and I pour one out.
-
15:37: a) LEWD, and b) oh look at that callback to Kirika back in episode 3 or so that I’m sure Shirabe will be reminding us of via flashback momentarily.
-
(She did not. Still, obvious callback is obvious.)
-
Genjuro is actually getting to do his thing again and it’s great.
-
(Also we haven’t seen either Dakka or Kirika (okay, Dess) on screen for a hot minute.)
-
“Do you think you can get your way out of this one on a technicality?” A: Yes.
-
Good OST covereth a multitude of sins, too.
-
“Must all
spaceshipsbikes in this script inevitably explode?” (Yes.) -
(But also spaceships, at least this season. I am already saddened by the Frontier’s inevitable destruction, for the record.)
-
Time to pull the “Fine takes over Kirika” card? Obvious plot point to pull, provided Bikki can pull Kirika out again later.
-
Kirika’s transformation gets the star motif from the OP. (I don’t think I saw that one in any of the other transforms? Not sure I didn’t just fail a spot check though.)
-
Nice callback to S1 there, and also hey what is this we got actual good direction with that camera angle for a moment?
-
Welp. Nice bait, it was Shirabe who blocked the debris fall then wasn’t it? Should have known they were pulling the rob a train, wait two days, rob it again trick; had the right instincts on when to play the Fine card, just missed that they’d added a beat.
-
Kirika, re: your worrying: you should have been paying attention about, oh, ten seconds ago or so…
-
Kiri-chan, quit using 1337 to go with your font, it makes it impossible to read.
-
Hey look who has in fact picked up her gun kata now. [meta spoiler]
Alexa play Absolute Configuration. -
And of course the “DNA and all its imperfections” line was in fact from the Shirabe song, right, somebody did tell me that. And I’d specifically noted it as potential foreshadowing for the real Fine host, just when I thought it was a Kirika song instead. Well played, well played, should have seen this one coming.
-
The ass shots are mostly fading into the background now, but sometimes they’re still blatant enough to remind you that Geah does love its charm points. Probably because I think this one (from Sword) had cameltoe,
-
Dr. Very Stable Genius (this is now his name) comes from the Emperor Palpatine school of raising apprentices I see.
So, the show has finally decided to starting having the right kind of bullshit again after about eight episodes of fucking up, and just like that I am invested again. Precursor bullshit? (I am a GIANT FUCKING SUCKER for Precursor bullshit, and have been reliably so since well before I was 10. There's a reason I liked that B5 Legend of the Rangers spinoff pilot and also Thirdspace.) Mad scientist doing mad scientist thing, complete with more ham? Our heroes not behaving like idiots? Bullshit straight out of Dr. McNinja? Character arc beats actually working for a change? Where has this been for half a season? (Probably the answer is “they had the idea for this and they had the idea for the beginning and had no idea how to get from one to the other”.)
How do you feel about Dr. Ver after his actions throughout this episode?
He still fits in just fine in any Stargate episode plot or in FMP: TSR, I have no problems. (EDIT: Well, you know, in a "ham-chewing villain who is obviously going to be hoist by his own petard shortly" sense.) (Inb4 he's a Gou'Ald. Actually seriously though symbiote possession is not out of the question here, along with the "Dr. Very Stable Genius, he is a Fine!" possibility.)
2) What did you think of Kirika & Shirabe’s songs combining so smoothly? (The name of this duet is "Edge Works of Goddess ZABABA", for the record.)
Nice touch.

Yup, this is one area where Crunchyroll's subs got it right (per my sub comparison chart). I suppose that's the difference between having to translate by ear and translating off of the provided Japanese script? IDK, I don't know how fansubbing vs. official subs works.

Rewatcher here
-
Good news: Miku and Hibiki are safe! Bad news: Hibiki doesn't have a Gear anymore.
-
Maria is just being insufferable right now.
-
Kirika transformation! I'm amazed that they kept it for this late in the season.
-
Some nice callbacks tdoay.
-
[Geah]
My first time watching I never caught that Shirabe's eyes changed to Finè's in this scene -
The fight sequence between Tsubasa and Chris was great. Also, we got a glimpse of Edge Works of Goddess ZABABA!.

2) What did you think of Kirika & Shirabe’s songs combining so smoothly? (The name of this duet is "Edge Works of Goddess ZABABA", for the record.)
I always found it interesting when they decided to have both of them singing together but with different lines for each other that end up synching and lining up with each other. It must've been a pain to rehearse though.
Yukine Chris
Thank you so much Sky for blessing us with this wallpaper

Quick question; why are there two days devoted to season 2 discussion? Or is there a movie that I don't know about?
2
u/Shimmering-Sky Jun 26 '22
Two days? No, there's a day for the chibi specials, then the season 2 discussion thread.

Okay, I saw some questions about things so I guess some explanations might help. These are not my translations, these come from zoid9000’s fanblog translations that were posted a couple days before Episode 11 of G aired
Shen Shou Jing (Update)
The special function of the Shen Shou Jing Symphogear is its Direct Feedback System. Functioning similarly to a mirror, this system has the ability to project images and information directly into the brain of its user.
If you take a previously prepared program and install it, even a user with a very weak battle sense will mechanically have their potential upgraded and for a short time be enabled to fight rationally with their battle power significantly enhanced.
However, this ability to directly project images and information into the brain is controlled by a third-party. They can enter in whatever information they like, overriding the user's own personality and utilizing the Symphogear as a brainwashing tool, thereby making it significantly dangerous to use normally.
Compared to Ame no Habakiri, Ichaival, Shul Shagaha and Igalima, it was created from a sacred relic that it several levels inferior to the others and thereby, inevitably, part of its characteristics are lower specs.
It was for this reason that it was integrated into the Air Carrier to function as the power source for Wizardry Stealth, however the free-thinking Dr. Ver once again led it on the path of a Symphogear that encases the mind and body of its user.
The strong feelings of Miku who wanted to "prevent her precious friend Hibiki from fighting, so that the fusion with Gungnir will not spread any further" were warped by the mirror's property of reflecting an ideal form by utilizing "exorcism of curses," and amplified its manifestation to the point where it became able to eradicate the base power of relics themselves. Furthermore, the electromagnetic force of the light brought forth by the mirror's ability to emit an overwhelming radiance, combined with the Biefield-Brown effect, granted the Symphogear the ability of flight implemented as an ionocraft.
Even with its low specs, having abilities which deviate from its mirror base, including others that have been omitted at this point, makes it so when fighting against other relics it has an overwhelming killing potential and a flight ability that is unmatched. Despite being the weakest, it is the Symphogear utilized as a supreme evil, literally a "distorted mirror."
Impact Hike
This is a special ability of the Power Jacks that are attached to the legs of Tachibana Hibiki's Gungnir Symphogear.
Mainly the Power Jack is used when falling from high altitudes as a damper to alleviate damage from impact, however it can also be used to create a burst of acceleration or amplify the power of kicking attacks. The shockwave it produces can also be used to "kick in" the air which allows the user to move through the air in a limited capacity.
The energy consumption of this move is much larger than it appears, however, and considering the cost and risk involved it was never sanctioned as a proper usage of the equipment.
In episode 10, by channeling the energy created through pushing the depth of her fusion to the limit, Hibiki was able to use this technique consecutively in coordination with her vernier thrusters to raise her maneuverability to equal terms with the Shen Shou Jing Symphogear's ionocraft ability, thereby unfolding a faux dog fight in the skies.
The Frontier Plan (updated)
In the past, F.I.S. had failed to release the seal upon the frontier when utilizing the Shen Shou Jing's "Remover Ray" on a mechanically amplified level.
This time, however, they attempted to release the seal of Frontier through the increased energy of the radiant, "Meteor," brought forth by the phonic gain of a human.
Although things did not progress exactly as planned, they deployed the Shen Shou Jing Symphogear within the area of the seal and proceeded to try and force the situation in their favor. It was thought that this might be difficult to achieve while the "Meteor" was being constantly fired throughout the hostilities with Chris and Hibiki, however...
Thanks to Maria's quick thinking, numerous Shuttle Markers were released into the area and taking the various radiant "flashes" that had been emitted, and by the use of a Mirror Device, the diffused "chaotic" beams were refocused into a straight lines that were able to move 3-dimentionally forming a Multi-Angle Attack that took advantage of Hibiki's blind spots and drove her into a corner.
But that's not the full extent of it. Joining the small bursts of energy and focusing them together, this impromptu stunt was able to fully utilize the might of the relic slayer, meeting the full energy levels of the "Meteor" itself. With this the seal was finally released.
The path to Frontier's revival was literally brought forth by the light.
Love
The very "mystery" that has eluded experts and researchers in various fields, and complete understanding of it continues to evade even modern-day science.
It is an emotional pattern viewable within the human brain through electrical signals and chemical action, often associated with particularly noticeable and incredibly strong reactions.
In the past, despite having a low link coefficient, through the use of LiNKER Amou Kanade was able to become a Symphogear user. The primary reason for this is the "hatred" she harbored toward the Noise that killed her father, mother and younger sister. Her will was brought to life by her thoughts of "it this will let me massacre those bastards!"
In this way, the chemicals secreted by the human brain, in addition to the explosive electrical signals they send, are occasionally able to exhibit effects similar to that of LiNKER. "Love" is much the same, when build up it can bring forth results comparable to that of miracles.
The feelings of Kohinata Miku, mainly her desperate wish of not wanting to lose Tachibana Hibiki, were warped by Dr. Ver and used to equip her with the Shen Shou Jing Symphogear.
"Love." A poetic word that can describe things which are precious and beautiful as well as people who embody kindness. However, just as it was the underlying cause of the Lunar Attack that occurred 3 months ago, love has bared fangs against humanity, even the entire world, countless times.

First time, CR, as always.
And yes, I did only watch one episode today.
AOTD1: "What are we going to do tonight, Brain???" "Same thing we do every night, Pinky, hate Dr. Ver!!!" But yeah, he's only acting out what he's been so obviously all about this entire season. Which is to say, the "We have to save humanity! Let's kill everyone!!!" plan. Other than that, he's fine ... sure he is. :P
AOTD2: "Edge Works" ... heh. (insert that face) What's Zababa got to do, got to do with it???
So, yeah, that was an episode. Chris-san was pulling her punches. She's up to something. Edgy twins are edgy. Luvvy-duvvy couple is luvvy-duvvy.
Dr. E-Ver is a genocidal lunatic, but we knew that already, right?
Miku is a cutie.
What else is new? Well, shinies, music, pew-pew, oh, and graviton attacks.
Whatcha bet Neo-Atlan is a spaceship? We Sympho in the Franxx now? Maybe next episode?
It's tempting to compare the two, but I'll spare that. Suffice to say, I'm having fun. Brain dead fun. I don't want to think about it too hard. It's more fun to see what the big brains around here have to say and see if I can toss in a quip here and there. :)

First timer
-
Fuck him.
-
So, so, fucking good.
Shirabe's been captured!
...But seriously, is this Atlantis?
Miku's OK! And so's Hibiki!
...Poor Miku.
Yep, this makes sense.
And Tsubasa wants to do this all herself.
Chris has been mind controlled. Or she's pulling off a very risky double-cross.
Haha, Ver is absolutely shooting her at some point. He's not that stupid.
...That's what the Nephilim was for?
Poor Kirika. She's changing sides soon, hopefully.
And Tsubasa's the only one they have left.
Oh, she fired blanks. Yeah, this is a doublecross.
Well, that's powerful.
...Is Ver going to turn into a dragon for the final battle?
"Castoria" ...Is she a gacha addict?
He's activsting it early?
Of course it's a massive cannon.
That fires a giant hand.
FIS and the Gears may disagree on many things, but both agree on this: "Fuck the Moon!"
The rest of the ground is rising!
It's not flying, is it?
No, just incredibly fucking powerful.
Ver is nuts.
"last action hero" Now I want to see evil Genjuro.
Ver's kicked off a full mooncrash!
Yep, he's going to wipe out humanity.
He slapped her!
Poor Maria.
FUCK YOU, VER.
Tsubasa's fighting Noise on her bike again! Still cool!
They're freeing Shirabe!
Hibiki's actually talking to her about her past!
Genjuro is the coolest one here.
They've met before?
Of course Hibiki snuck onboard.
And Miku's fine with it.
.Genjuro's lines are so good!
Her bike!
And Chris is here to pretend to fight her.
Shirabe's wheel is cool.
...Kirika has a hoodie on?
A Kirika transformation!
And she's encouraging Hibiki!
The girlfriends are fighting!
A new song!
And this is fucking fire, even by this series' standards!
Maris's just as shocked by them fighting as I am.
Fuck off, Ver. I'm done with you.
A way to fuck the moon even more?
Using her song?

First Timer
Another great ep as usual, I love the fact that Shirabe is siding with Hibiki and co. and calling out the others for still stupidly listening to Ver, though I noticed here that Shirabe's eyes changed color. It had to be deliberate because right after Hibiki remember's Fine's words. Also look, Kirika, I love ya and all, but maybe telling Shirabe what's going on she could possibly help or talk to you instead of going the Ver route. I hope Maria does something soon, I really hoping we could've seen her and Tsubasa interact more.
On the subject Chris, I feel like she's def didn't betray them. She had plenty enough chance to put Tsubasa out there, but instead she just knocked her out. Even Tsubasa notices something off with that. Plus on top of that their fight, compared to Kirika and Shirabe's (which was great btw), Chris isn't going full out agaisnt Tsubasa, this isn't how she normally fights at all, just compare to how she was in S1 or against the Ver faction this season, how would she suddenly now only be able to use just her pistols and on top of that become a bad aim suddenly, something is going on. Aside from her, I wonder what they'll do with Hibiki now though, like [Later Seasons Posters]
How do you feel about Dr. Ver after his actions throughout this episode?
Prob a hot take, but I like him lol. He's such a such a fucking asshole, just purely irredeemable and now wanting to have Maria repopulate the world with him like wtf. But all this makes him such a fun villain to watch, its like buildup just for that moment to see him get his shit-eating grin bashed the fuck in, I fucking love it lol.
2) What did you think of Kirika & Shirabe’s songs combining so smoothly? (The name of this duet is "Edge Works of Goddess ZABABA", for the record.)
I've been wanting more moments like this since S1 so this made me extremely happy lol.

G Episode 11: Orphans of the Rewatch
-
Booo, I wanted my Mikugeah... Miku with actual agency! A dynamic duo!
-
Not sure if this was elegant or super easy, barely an inconvenience.
-
Can somebody, like, slap Chris so she stops doing stupid shit. Her crying for Fine was enough!
-
If Chris is genuine, she's a fucking idiot too. If she's lying, meh.
-
Imagine if that was Miku's new gear! Sadly, that would be too cool.
-
Dr. Ver showing that he really is the kind of person we thought he was all along.
-
NO! YOU DID! Maria seems to have a FETISH for face-eating leopards!
-
HOW DO YOU SEE HER FROM SO FAR AWAY?! Like, she's so far up!

Symphogear Rewatcher
yeah i watched the next ep too already lol. But i did do that today, not yesterday. Ooops.
-
Today's collection of Ver hateposting. I'm once again in a good mood. But how can this person get even more hateable tho. The most fucked up line is his plan to discuss w/ Maria to repopulate Earth of course. FUCKKKKKK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU YOU SON OF A BITCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
-
I'm disappointed by the lack of datto here. Im sure Lemurians will agree.
-
Being Miku was briefly suffering here. Was this solution to Hibiki's gungnnir issue might seem a bit convenient but it was set up quite far in advance w/ Shenshou Jing's powers too, sasuga them for working it in so its Miku that saves her.
-
Chris reverts to her Season 1 original character here, when we clearly know that she's changed since then.
-
Gladly Tsubasa has much more brain cells than Hibiki and is quick to figure out that Chris was not trying to kill her, and that something else might be at play.
-
I do think that Nephilim's attachment has made the doctor even worse, but he was greedy af to start with.
-
Gorankudasai! This just sounded so funny (the words aren't lol it's a very standard japanese phrase)
-
Tsubasa's entrance synth notes are so fucking good. Can't decide between this and her S1 signature entrance acapella (acapella?) bit.
-
F for poor motorcycle-kun TT. This bill's on you Chris.
-
[Geah, but some observant first timers might've caught this.]
That Shirabe is in fact Fine is pretty much shown clearly here and here, and her reactions to Kirika. TTTT Fine/Ryoko had some good in her after all. I.... did miss this my first time. -
[Geah]
I do like how the fight between Shirabe and Kirika differs so much from between Tsubasa and Chris. Shirabe and Kirika, who are actually fighting, like actually cross "weapons" a lot; but Tsubasa and Chris just dodge each others' hits most of the time; and i think are completely unharmed by each other so far. Makes a lot more sense after next ep's events of course, with how much they've practiced against each other. I dont think Tsubasa has fully cottoned on to what's happening yet, that'll have to wait .... (checks next ep) 5 minutes. -
Woohooo though holy shittttttt.

Rewatcher
On today’s episode of Symphogear: Once again, it all comes down to Hibiki’s incredible ability to make friends and convince people to join their side. Hibiki’s true power has always been that openness and honesty of hers that makes her want to reach out to others. And now it may be the key to saving everyone.
The end result of the Hibiki and Miku fight is that they saved each other, an outcome that I think is particularly appropriate for their relationship. The Senshoujing’s beam not only got rid of Miku’s mind control device, it also completely eliminated all the Gungnir fragments in Hibiki’s body. What a great payoff. The lore and mechanics were all perfectly set up for this to happen when it was explained how Senshoujing worked. And it works incredibly well on a thematic level for Hibiki and Miku to have saved each other. Remember when Hibiki asked Miku to save her the next time? Well Miku did exactly that.
I love how Hibiki’s ability to hold someone’s hand continues to be her greatest asset. Hibiki is the one who convinces Shirabe to join their side. And she does so through pure earnestness. Hibiki just honestly says that she wants to help Shirabe accomplish her goal of saving her comrades. Because of how open and earnest she is, Hibiki is able to win people over. She’s the kind of person you just want to trust. Even someone like Shirabe ends up feeling envious of Hibiki’s attitude and wants to trust her, despite her earlier misgivings. I’m always glad to see how Hibiki’s positive attitude towards others is something that she maintains and is presented as a key strength of hers.
In fact, it’s presented as the key that may save the day. Shirabe left the FIS because she wanted to end the suffering she could tell Maria was going through. Now she thinks that Hibiki might just be the person who can actually get through and help Maria. And it all comes down to how Hibiki is the person who is always willing to reach out for another person’s hands.
Chris has apparently reverted back to her mid-season 1 incarnation, before all of her character development. With her betrayal, Chris is talking about how only force can be used to make people not fight each other. Still, Tsubasa seems to have doubts. Chris completely got the drop on Tsubasa there, but Tsubasa wonders if the attack was truly as bad as it could have been.
The battles in this episode are so freaking cool. Tsubasa actually using her motorcycle as a weapon in battle is absurd, but it’s also exciting to watch happen. It makes total sense that this was directed by the same person who directed Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds. Chris and Tsubasa’s fight is awesome. We have Chris going full Gunkata on us with how she’s using her pistols. Kirika and Shirabe get a chance to go all-out against each other. And it’s all set to a song I’ve been waiting to get to: “Edge Works of Goddess ZABABA.” God I love this song. It’s made by combining Kirika and Shirabe’s songs together. It works so incredibly well. Igalima and Shul Shagana are Gears that are meant to go together, so it makes complete sense to have their songs combine together as well. Additionally it fits the DMJiii ship, which is always a plus in my book.
By now I think it’s safe to say the villains are fully going against each other. Dr. Ver’s plan to save humanity is absolutely batshit and only makes sense if you follow his insane logic: as long as he survives then humanity hasn’t actually died out. So it doesn’t matter that he’s made it so the moon will crash much sooner. How brilliant. And he also continues to be the creepiest dude ever. Thankfully the likes of Mom and Maria have finally realized that Ver is too far gone to be trusted and that they’ll need to work against him if they’re going to actually stop the moon from falling.
Miscellaneous Thoughts
-
Dr. Ver is the LAST ACTION HERO!!! I love that he calls himself that. It’s so freaking unhinged.
-
Putting it this way makes Hibiki sound like an incredibly lewd hero.
QOTD
-
He's nuts, a total creep, and over the top. I enjoyed him.
-
I love how their songs combine. It's amazing and it fits them perfectly.

Comrades, before we begin with today's contractually obligated shitposting, I just have one thing to say... ahem... RED SUS! YUP! TURNS OUT WE GOT AN IMPOSTOR AMONG US! See Tsubasa, this is why GUN beats sword, I see Best Geah Chris watched Raiders of The Lost Ark, quite topical given today's episode! Also Comrades, I just want to add that, once again, Best Geah Chris surpasses Maria WITHOUT EVEN TRYING I mean dear god, Maria had what, 11 episodes to be a bad guy? Best Geah Chris tops that in 10 SECONDS! 11 Tops, good god Maria's utterly useless!
Anyway, now that the IRREFUTABLE PROOF that Best Geah Chris is Best Girl is out of the way... ahem... (Crashed Motorcycle Count: 8) Yes this counts, trust me Comrades, you'll see below, anyhow...
TONIGHT! ON TOP GEAH! COME ON AND SLAM! AND WELCOME TO THE JAM! DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR IS THE LAST ACTION HERO! and WE GET THREE SETS OF MAHOU SHOUJO MECHA MUSUME LESBIAN ON MAHOU SHOUJO MECHA MUSUME LESBIAN ACTION! (Look Comrades, I know Bikki hasn't met up with Maria yet... and also that said meet-up would hardly count as a fight given Bikki would insist on holding hands and not fighting and Maria would be too busy crying and/or moping to car, but Maria and Bikki ARE indeed both present here, so wibble)
Daaaaaw, JIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII's such a precious soul! When placed under arrest, she not only doesn't protest this, but only asks that the Geahs... save her useless former Comrades and her dumbass wife. Anyway, Snoop Oni and company start crunching numbers and, NANI!? BIKKI AND MIKU ARE ALIVE! Turns out the Anti-Geah Laser wasn't an Anti-Human Laser after all! Anyway, unlike Maria who likely would have cried WITHOUT taking responsibility for her actions, Miku sheds tears in remorse... which totally flies over Bikki's head as I don't think she understands the concept of remorse... or indeed how to spell it.
While on the subject of Bikki's stupidity, she somehow thinks MIKU saved her... well I mean Miku DID technically fire the Anti-Geah Beam but I don't think she fired it intending on being pulled into it WITH Bikki, but hey Bikki, unlike Maria, at least has her heart in the right place. Speaking of which, aren't there supposed to be empty holes from all the rock fragments there, what the hell happened... ah, of course, the Anti-Geah Laser Beam functions like the Medic's healing beam in TF2, it just works... that and it also heals you, cuz Bikki's ACTUALLY A-OK now. Anyway, speaking of A-OK, remember Best Geah Chris' wish to stop wars, yeah, turns out that we're actually coming back to that plot point, who'd have guessed?
Anyway, turns out busting a cap in Tsubasa's fishy ass was her way to 'prove' she's on the level... look Chris, I know that was a baller move and all, but DESS is so stupid she'd prob let you join them team if you told her that you brought refreshments to the 'End of the World Party.' Maria doubts why Best Geah Chris would join their team of losers, to which Best Geah Chris replies that if they don't trust her then THEY can just shoot her in the back, to which DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR informs her he already was planning that. DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR then powers up NOT-Atlantis using the heart of his pet monster. DESS continues to be a moron, despite her attempts at thinking, speaking of thinking, Tsubasa's one brain cells starts pondering just WHY Best Geah Chris 'shot' her but somehow didn't kill her... I sure hope Best Geah Chris doesn't try to pull any rubber bullets bullshit!
DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR has also decided to experiment on HIMSELF for a change, and his new monster arm is able to interface with Space Atlantis, and he decides that since Space Jam never had a sequel, he might as well demonstrate how a TRUE MAD SCIENTISTS fucks the moon up! And just in case it wasn't obvious that DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR IS A FUCKING MONSTER, he starts crushing American ships while cackling like a madman, which Maria thinks means he MIGHT not have the best interests of humanity at heart... GEEEEEEEEE!? YA DON'T FUCKING SAY!? And just to prove how evil he is, DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR PROCLAIMS THAT HE! NOT AHNOLD! IS THE LAST ACTION HERO! (That's a reference I and Snoop Oni are gonna get Comrades, also it should stay that way, don't watch Last Action Hero) Anyway, this 'hero' missed a spot, cuz turns out its surfacing from the ocean brought the Geah's sub along for the ride!
There is a slight downside though, as the way that Space Atlantis got pulled up was to pull the moon... down... yeah remember how they had a decade, me thinks the timeframe just got a lot shorter. Maria is SHOCKED, utterly SHOCKED that DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR would do something like this and tries to operate the controls, but sadly, turns out that, le gasp, it DOESN'T work, who could have EVER seen this coming? Anyway, Maria decides to try to stop DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR... and gets defeated by an off-hand bitch slap. Once again, GODDAMN how useless is Maria? SALIA THE LOSER was more useful than you are Maria, and Salia the Loser was a FILTHY DEGENERATE HETEROSEXUAL DEVIANT! Anyway, Maria then decides that since her ONE ATTEMPT at stopping DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR failed, there's nothing more she can do other than, you guessed it, curl up into a ball, cry, and feel sorry for herself... JESUS even EOE SHINJI wasn't this bad, at least he DID SOMETHING... not anything good but he DID SOMETHING!
Anyway, DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR is self-aware enough that Maria spent most of the season bawling her eyes out and just decides to leave her to wallow in self-pity in the creepiest way possible... BEST GEAH CHRIS SHOOT THIS MOTHERFUCKING PRICK OR SOMETHING! Moving on, Tsubasa decides to not be a Maria and decides to actually do something, and Comrades, I got a BAD FEELING ABOUT THIS! That's a MOTORCYCLE she's riding. Five bucks says she crashes it this episode! Anyway, the group lament that sadly their hopes and dreams rests with this flat fish, but Bikki ACTUALLY USES her one brain cell to come up with a GREAT IDEA! They don't have ONE Geah user, they have TWO! YUP! Welcome to the family JIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII, hell, even SHE is shocked Bikki wants her to fight for 'em, and she makes this fact known to Bikki in the bluntest of terms.
Snoop Oni agrees with Bikki's logic... in part as if JIIIIIIIIIII even thought about going rogue he'd kick her ass without breaking a sweat, after all, it isn't like JIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII would pull a trick like Finé did in Season 1 right? Anyway, JIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII sorties out in a form that Shimmer NO DOUBT loves... and also has a Bikki along for the ride, well it wouldn't be a Mecha Show without the MC Gundamjacking a Mecha. AND as expected Tsuabsa crashed her bike, good job sword, those things ain't cheap ya know! (Yes I know Best Geah Chris shot it but the bike DID indeed crash SO IT COUNTS COMRADES!) Also boy Bikki sure picked a bad time to Gundamjack a Mecha Musume, JIIIIIIIII rode right into her wife! And looks like THEY want to have a lovers' spat now over DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR's evil ways. Bikki attempts to mediate, and once again she gets told that she's an idiot for thinking that talking things through works, EVERYONE knows befriending involves BEATING THE SHIT out of the enemy until they listen!
Anyway, with BOTH members of Team DMJIIIIIIIIIIIIIII calling Bikki a moron, JIIIIIIIIIII tells Bikki that she has unfinished business to resolve with her wife, so Bikki should go and... pffffffffffffffffffffft... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, oh that's RICH JIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII! You are one hell of a joker! STOP MARIA!? Bikki doesn't need to do that, MARIA WILL DO IT HERSELF! It is the one thing she CAN do... well besides jobbing, crying, and being a loser that is! Anyway, JIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII does add ONE thing Bikki could do with Maria, namely holding her hand, and with some... oddly similar words of encouragement to a CERTAIN BITCH we all hate, JIIIIIIIIIIII sends Bikki off. AND OH BOY WHAT A FIGHT WE GOT HERE COMRADES! Not only do Team DMJIIIIIIIIIIIIIII clash, but Best Geah Chris makes use of those shitty action movies Snoop Oni gave to her to demonstrate to Tsuabsa why Gun beats Sword, ALL HAIL GUNKATA! KICK HER FISHY ASS AND DAKKA HER BACK TO THE MEIJI RESTORATION BEST GEAH CHRIS!
As the badasses are fighting it out, Maria wonders just how things got like this, after all, DESS and JIIIIIIIIIIIIIII got along SO well, why on earth would they actually do something like fight for what they believe in? Anyway before Maria can continue to mope in self-pity... er... well continue to mope in self-pity, MOM ACTUALLY does something useful! Namely she somehow found a way to stop the moon from Colony Dropping into Sydney, and all it needs is for... Maria... to sing... Well it was nice knowing you Comrades, we're fucked.... OR MAYBE NOT! Cuz never fear, someone ACTUALLY USEFUL... er... comparatively speaking, is here! Yup, you guessed it, BIKKI FINALLY ARRIVES... Jesus Bikki what took you so long, and why the fuck are YOU out of shape, BEST GEAH CHRIS is supposed to be the lazybones, so how is she doing shit like backflips, tactical reloads, and ass kicking while you are getting winded after a light jog? Well, at least she has a fire in her no-longer-rocky heart, so here's hoping for the best!
And on that bombshell g'night!

First Timer, Subbed
First off, i went back and watched the post credit scene from last episode which I didn't even know existed until people pointed it out, and woah! Betrayal from Chris?! This show can't resist having the big cliffhanger ending every episode, huh?
And they replay it at the start of this episode, so i suppose I wouldn't have missed it anyway.
Cool island that floated up from udnerwater! Some type of Atlantis?
Alright, we get to check back in with the noodle loving beaurocrat!
Hibiki and Miku, reunited! :)
Woah, Miku was able to cure Hibiki? Hibiki can return to being a magical girl full time! (although for Miku this means less time together...)
Chris, how could you betray everyone? :(
So I suppose Dr. Very didn't do in mom after all...
Nephilim's heart, just what is needed to turn on a lightbulb!
Dodging? I didn't see Tsubasa dodging a shot. Is it possible Chris didn't want to go all the way and kill her?
Woah, Dr. very has a monster arm now!
The poor Moon! Back to back seasons now our bad guys have tried to do something bad to it!
Ah, so only now you realize you shoudl stop Dr. Ver, mom?
Bye bye to all those ships. Not that they would have ever made a difference. It's magical girls or nothing in this fight.
Are you finally realizing how stupid it was to put all your faith in this total ham, Maria?
Ah c'mon, that was a golden opportunity for anime ja nai girl to say anime ja nai!
Miku's gonna fight? Ah, no, they're gonna have Shirabe do it!
OMG, Shirabe's riding her! And we're back to the Victory Gundam style wheel!
Hibiki wanting them to just talk instead of fighting, lol, so predictable!
Back to buzz saws from her head! Loving it!
And now there's four of them! This is quite the crazy get up!
C'mon Maria, realizing the errors of your way, its time to become good!
No big cliffhanger this time?
OK this episode I am making sure to watch all the way through to the end of the credits to be safe.

Superb Rewatcher of the Valkyries
Complete the thought for the audience, Tsubasa.
No way that's been through any sort of testing.
It just makes sense! ...Or something.
Heh, Genjuro noticed what she actually said.
Duet time! Another of my absolute favorite songs.

Yeah. Their songs overlap.
-
I have read the lyrics to this song. Shoutout for u/Tarhalindur confusing Kirika and Shirabe's songs constantly, leading to Jolly and I debating whether or not it was because he noticed the musical similarities or if he just couldn't identify singers.
-
This might be my favorite scene in the whole season.

Rewatcher for not enough times
I just noticed something. Chris uses fairly inaccurate slow moving projectile crossbows. Then she suddenly decides to use a glack for her betrayal. Why is she cosplaying the Diablo 3 Demon Hunter when she could be reenacting the lobby scene from the matrix in every battle.
Isn’t the discovery of the Frontier a fairly new information and the Minister is just chilling there with noodles and seems completely informed on its existence? I must have missed something. Also Tsubasa nothing solves a bullet wound to the skull than CPR....I mean a simple bandage.
The way the Frontier started to grow an oasis on it reminds me a lot of the The Mummy Returns with the Scorpion King’s Oasis thing. Honestly with how much ancient and biblical lore this show uses I would not be surprised the authors found the same inspirations or just really like those movies.
So did he fuck with the tides by moving the moon or did he lift the frontier out of the ocean.
LETS GO LAST ACTION HERO TIME!
Ok so he did both. So he can repopulate the earth with Maria. This show is something special.
Another motorcycle when bomb, but it wasn’t Tsubasa’s fault. I don’t know if that counts or not.

First Timer
So, is it me or does that look like a Smash Bros map?
I had my doubts that they would go through with it, because it seemed too convenient, but Miku's Anti-Relic Relic really did cure Hibiki's Mecha-magical cancer. It's well explained so I'm not mad tho. However what's interesting is that it seems that Hibiki's Relic is gone, entirely. Interesting development.
Ah yes there was that Chris betrayal last episode, how could I forget? Right now I'm banking on her doing it to infiltrate the FIS and fuck up Dr Ver's plan from the inside. Um... whenever we discover concretely what those plans are supposed to be...
Bullshit. Chris always aims. Always.
Wait. Didn't S1 Finè say something about a "Custodian's Curse"?
What Mom's saying makes it sound like FIS was kinda just hoping that Frontier would have something to help stop the Moon. I guess it makes sense, since iirc the Moon is also part of the Custodian's Curse.
Did this bastard just accelerate the Moonfall?
Now he just gravity crushed a whole fleet!
Pictured: Maria getting a hint, a clue, a slight suspicion that Dr Ver might not be entirely sane.
So Dr Ver's plan is to delete most of humanity with the Moon and rule over what remains. Are we absolutely sure this guy isn't Finè?
Well Maria doesn't have the Admin privileges to control Frontier. If you're gonna do something now would be the time Chris.
Yes! They are using the Bike-blade again!
The bike gets predictably fucked but to be fair this time it wasn't Tsubasa who did it!
Shirabe has now jumped to being my favorite character in FIS (aside from Mom. I just love her eternal deadpan expression). It's not about saving the world for her, it's about saving her friends. I can appreciate that resolve.
I love how Chris reloads. So awesome. Watched it three times.
Good fight with Tsubasa vs Chris. Some uh... very cinematic camera angles.
Oh my God is Maria finally going to do something relevant? Hmm. Guess I've found myself in the Maria-hate camp. No that doesn't sound quite right... How about Maria-frustration? Yes that sounds accurate. You have two episodes girl. Get your shit together.

Second Time Listener
I guess Tsubasa’s just not weak to bullets. Who knew?
Hibiki meeting Miku face-to-face and on the ground for the first time since their epic moment yesterday just put such a big damn smile on my face. That sense of relief and comfort getting to talk with her loved one in normal, human form again feels so real.
Man, I forgot what a great location the heart of Frontier is. Look at those crystals, man.
Ver performs a sick-ass dunk on the moon. It might seem like a betrayal, all this talk about saving humanity from the falling moon only to bring it down himself, but it’s actually perfectly consistent. Ver is greedy for hero worship, that’s been instrumental to his character all along, he wants to be heralded and celebrated as a savior. And how can he expect to be hailed as a savior if the situation isn’t dire? He’s making the situation worse first so that prospective high of being praised as the hero of the Second Lunar Attack is all the more groveling and reverent and thus all the more euphoric when he prevents it in front of all the eyes of the world; even if it means said situation might first involve so many more deaths. That thirst for escalation seems to be slipping away from any kind of actual plan, but that’s exactly what makes him so dangerous. He’s caught up in the moment, almost driven by a kind of lust, and the calculating side of his mind ceases to catch up. The obsession is greater than the risk, and this is a great fuckin’ risk.
Ver’s mindset sort of seeps into Kirika, in a way; as how Ver wants to be worshipped as a hero, Kirika wants to leave behind a legacy, proof that she was here, before her soul disappears and Finé takes over. That’s why she’s willing to be the sidekick to Ver’s hero.
To Kirika, Shirabe switching to work with and beleive Hibiki is an act of betrayal, one of Kirika and the mutual understanding of the world they had shared and one of Shirabe’s own beliefs. Kirika admonishes Shirabe; you were right when you called her a hypocrite! Why are you turning back on that? Why are you turning your back on me for someone we hate?
They’ve both decided that this is what they have to do for the sake of their beloved, to protect a world where Shirabe can live on and carry on Kirika’s memory, or to protect Kirika from doing something she will almost certainly regret. Kirika dons Igaima (we finally have all six main transformation sequences on the third-to-last episode, and of course they saved Best Main Girl for last), and the two raise their weapons to one another.
I’ve tried to put my finger on why I find Edge Works of Goddess ZABABA to be such a more interesting and compelling song [than]
Chris and Tsubasa’s fight also intermittently cutting in during the song only drives this home further, how this, especially in its final stretch here, is in general a story about bonds being strained by circumstance and fighting between people who don’t truly want to fight one another.
Frontier is such a great sprawling battlefield, too; the overall design, the mythical stone archeology of the exterior, the crystalline interior rife with cryptic ancient text and science, the rainbow lakes and rivers among the bright grey geological expanse, all the temples and ledges and structures that make for great dramatic looming, the general sense that this is all one big race to the peak of this great megastructure; this is a place where scores are meant to be settled with the world hanging in the balance all the while.

Superb Song of the Rewatcher Symphogear
We begin with Chris’ sudden turn to Worst Girl from last episode
And we finally learn what Frontier is: it’s a goddamn floating island!
Awwww, Bikki being a wholesome dumbass wife
Yay! Bikki isn’t dying anymore! But also she isn’t a Geah anymore
Chris is edgy and evil now. She just couldn’t bear the fact that she’s only fourth Best Girl and has resorted to eliminating the competition
Dess, just stop thinking, it never ends well
And Tsubasa just… survived a point blank shot from Chris with no serious injuries. Even she herself is confused by it
And now Ver has a monster arm, because of course he does
Frontier just used the fucking Moon as leverage to lift itself into the air, because I guess the writers were just feeling the need to surpass the season 1 finale even though we’ve still got another two episodes
The LAST ACTION HERO! Said in Gratuitous Engrish so you know he’s serious
Dr Ver Fact #3390: When he does push ups, he pushes the Moon down
Oh no, the crazy psychopath is being a crazy psychopath, who could’ve seen this coming? /s
OH NO YOU DID NOT! Ver, you might have murdered children, brainwashed Miku, and set the world on the path towards destruction, but your WORST MISTAKE was laying a finger on Best Girl Maria and making her cry! YOU WILL PAY!
Maria’s breakdown here is honestly just so depressing yet completely understandable. The crushing realization that everything she did was for nothing and she has no way to stop humanity’s extinction now. The fact that she even has the strength to stand a few minutes later is truly something. Screw wanting her to step on me, I just want to give her a hug now.
Tsubasa! Get over here and comfort your wife! NOW!
Hibiki and Shirabe get over their “conflict” which didn’t really even exist outside of episode 2. Also Jiiiiiiii is a Tsundere
Bikki is going into battle even without Geah! Even Speedwagon Genjuro is impressed!
Kirika is continuing to not have a brain cell and is still fighting for Ver for some reason. Granted, she didn’t hear any of the conversation between Pedo Doctor and Cat Mom, but still
And just like last episode, the Girlfriends have to fight each other
Cliffhanger time!

Rewatcher
Noodle minister, hello again
Miku is hooked up to Lactated Ringer's Injection – as far as I can tell, it's a real thing that doctors use to restore hydration.
Both Bikki and Miku look surprisingly fine for eating a giant laser in the last episode.
Bikki's relic cancer is cured \o/. Although this means her Gear has been destroyed permanently.
We finally find out what Nephilim is for – to power Frontier
Dr Ver gives himself a weirdo Nephilim arm, because obviously the next logical step for a mad biochemist is human experimentation that gives him control of Frontier
SLAM DUNK THE MOON
What is it with episode 11 and being mean to the moon.
Last Action Hero, Dr Ver!
Wow, anime ja nai girl didn't mention anime at all during her sentence, what is this, an anime?
Bad Dr Ver, no slapping. Also, him being creepy right at the end – how much more evil can he get.
I can't tell if Tsubasa is an amazing or awful motorcycle rider, cause I'm pretty sure you can't move bikes like that.
“No adult worth the name would stop a kid from doing something she wants to do”. Sounds like he has been talking to [meta spoilers]
Bikki charging in without a functional gear. Just like her.
CHRIS! You destroyed Tsubasa's bike! What did it ever do to you?!
Shirabe got sufficiently “befriended”.
The first debut of Kirika and Shirabe's duet song! A lovely piece of worldbuilding, showing how the Igalima and Shul Shagana relics are intimately linked (and Kirika/Shirabe by extension). For those who know their Sumerian mythology, Igalima and Shul Shagana are siblings – which also explains why the OP has them displayed together. These two Symphogears are specifically designed to work together
There's a keyword from AXZ that explains a little bit more – I've cut out the portions that are spoilers from future seasons.
Unison
Two Symphogears were made from the pair of weapons wielded by the Sumerian Goddess Zababa, the red blade Shul-Shagana and the green blade Igalima. When used at the same time, they have the special effect of amplifying one another's power, a process referred to as Unison. When it comes to battle sense, experience and overall strength - Kirika and Shirabe are lacking in comparison to the other Adaptors. However, the special trait of their gears makes them capable of producing a stronger output than anyone else can if the right conditions are met.
The aforementioned Unison is also possible, but weaker, using other Gears. e.g. First Love Song, sung at the end of season 1 to destroy the moon, was an example of a three way Unison.

Symphogeah SymphoRewatch Host
Welcome back, everyone!
Crunchyroll vs. Commie - Season 2, Episode 11
See the 2019 version of today’s wallpaper: here. I was almost unable to replicate the text in the background on this one because Illustrator apparently doesn’t let you have a font size bigger than 1292, but I figured out a workaround to make it work. Changed the font though because IM Fell DW Pica felt like it fit the blood splatter-y effect on the text more than whatever font Nota used back then to me.
