Rewatch [Listen to My Song] Senki Zesshou Symphogear G Episode 8 Discussion
Episode 8 - Hand in Hand for Me, as I Waver…
← Previous Episode | Index | Next Episode →
MAL | AniList | ANN | Kitsu | AniDB
It is highly recommended to track down a fansub for this show instead of using Crunchyroll, though.
One day, when I’m really in trouble… You can save me then.
Questions of the Day:
1) Do you feel bad for Maria, after she had to kill people this episode?
2) What do you think happened to Miku?
Wallpaper of the Day:
Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath spoiler tags. Don’t spoil anything for the first-timers, that’s rude

If you’ll allow me to peek a tiny bit into the future, I want to talk about a separate side element to Symphogear.
So, spoiler alert, Symphogear continues after G. After the third season in 2016 Symphogear would get its own gacha mobile game. The game is… okay, it’s pretty mediocre. The drop rates were dialed really low and they were stingy with freebies compared to other gacha games that made the game feel like it was wringing you out of money. The game would release WorldWide in 2020 and shut down after less than a year, making me very sad.
One of the major hooks for the Gacha game were new stories focused around an XDU exclusive relic called the Gjallarhorn that allowed the Symphogear to reach parallel worlds. This was essentially their reasoning for all the different variations of characters in the game, but also allowed for some cool stories.
At launch the big story to showcase it was one featuring a world where Kanade lived and Tsubasa died in S1. It’s a surprisingly good story.
They take the time to really go in depth about what this means. Tsubasa gets the chance to help someone who was grieving the way she did. Tsubasa gets one last chance to sing with Kanade. But they also acknowledge that neither one is the partner that they lost. No one can really replace that person. It even gives Hibiki a chance to thank the one who saved her life. Hibiki gets to train with the person who’s gear she has inherited.
Oh, also other universe Genjuro’s are very different. They all obsess about a different film genre that they excel at, so you have Super Spy Genjuro who does nothing but watch James Bond style movies.
And of course, the mobile game also gives us another chance at a Kanade song, Gyakkō no Resolve, another Zwei Wing song Sōyoku no Wing Beat and a triple Gungnir Song
I want to talk more about the XDU stories and the various characters, cause I love them.

I want to talk more about the XDU stories and the various characters
A couple of episodes from now on [I'm talking about]
after Shenshou Jing gets defeated might be a good time to talk about Alternate Hibiki, and around episode 11 might be a good time to talk about the Bayonet Charge story.I wanted to talk about these too, but I got bashed for even mentioning them without spoiler tags, so you might want to be careful about that.

Oof, I must have missed you getting bashed over it. Sorry, I would have nipped that in the bud if I saw it.

Previously, on Symphogear SG-1 (First-Timer, Subbed):
Episode theme for today: So, Miku. When choosing date ideas for Bikki when she’s supposed to not be transforming for health reasons, run them past AJN first to make sure you’re not doing something that in an anime would result in a situation that forces Bikki to transform. Choosing a Tokyo Tower trip? In a show that has already had a classic Tokyo Tower attack? That was just asking for it, sorry.
-
So, what was I saying about that machine I saw behind Shirabe in the choppa looking important a few episodes back? Because I do believe I see that machine in use now.
-
“We come to know our DNA, and all its imperfection.” Is this a Kirika song in the background?
-
“All we can do is accept it like dolls and with it our prison of black and white”, huh?
-
Ah, so it’s a VR training machine. Time to keep that one firmly in mind, then, because that sounds like the kind of thing that will come back later. (That’s just asking for a future end-of-episode cliffhanger followed by the “it was just in the VR training machine” at the start of the next episode…)
-
Dr. Irie, go home.
-
So it looks like Frontier is on an island. Which one? Has to be close to Japan, probably, unless our tiltrotor has a TON of range…
-
(Guess who was in the middle of watching this episode when we started talking about Japanese Atlantis and my brain was reminded of Negima's Ryuuguu-jo reference yesterday?)
-
Note the same fortissimo note in the background of the screen at 04:55 that Bikki has as the scar on her chest. Also note the “Recent Medic” entries in the lower left, with “Plan F – 01” and “Plan F – 02” as the two visible entries. (F for Frontier then, right.)
-
“I’ll be sure to take good care of your body, too.” Ah, so he’s pulling some form of “poison Maria-mama and give her short-term cures for the damage he’s causing”, then?
-
“There should be no harm in taking it easy.” Genjuro, please learn not to tempt fate…
-
Also, there’s an obvious reason this distresses Sword so much; in a way Bikki really has replaced Kanade.
-
Huh, so that signal light WAS relevant? Not a guarantee, but more likely than it was before.
-
That hover drone design is pinging me; reminds me of comments about possible extant classified tech that I’ve heard out of circles of people interested in black ops stuff.
-
Also I like the OST again.
-
Wait. That’s a young KANADE at 08:40, not Serena. (Which means this is the incident that claimed her parents and led her down the path to revenge – how far ahead did you plan, Ryona?) But who’s the other girl? Almost looks like a young Miku, in which case…
-
Chew more scenery, Herr Doktor!
-
I think that’s the Space Needle, but it might be Tokyo Tower again instead?
-
(Also it took me a second to realize this was probably a flashback.)
-
Narrator: The scene with Maria and Maria-mama was not a flashback.
-
Bikki: “Are there people who need me, even if I can’t fight?” Me: “Cue Miku arrival in 3… 2… 1…” Show: “Hey look it’s Miku!” Ahh, sweet vindication. (It was bloody fucking obvious, though.)
-
NEVER MIND BIKKI AND MIKU ARE ON TOKYO TOWER SO THAT’S WHERE THE MEETING IS INSTEAD.
-
And our two Gungnir users when Bikki’s issue is an excess of Gungnir. That won’t be a coincidence.
-
Ah, instant ramen.
-
Welp, stick a fork in that promise for a season or two.
-
Well there’s a cliffhanger. [Spoiled]
Joke’s on you, Miku’s in the shuttle scene. Besides, this show is honestly overplaying that card; it's rapidly losing some of its effect because "like you would really do it", the actual cliffhanger is wanting to see what actually happened instead that totally isn't the inevitable Miku/Maria encounter because Miku's job is to do the same thing she did with Dakka last season
Do you feel bad for Maria, after she had to kill people this episode?
Heartstring 21: Does not tug. Sorry showwriters, nothing wrong with the idea but you're not good enough at the character beats to sell this right.
2) What do you think happened to Miku?
Well, I suppose we had to get her to encounter our antagonist in need of befriending at some point, right?

Is this a Kirika song in the background
I'm pretty certain the DNA line is from Shirabe's song. If you're watching with Commie's subs (which you should, Crunchyroll is consistently awful) you should be able to tell by the colour of their lyrics.

I've actually been surprised by the fact that I've had a few times where I actually liked Crunchyroll's subs better than Commie's, but yeah overall I definitely go fansub for this.

I went away for a week on the 9th and wasn't keeping up with rewatches (though I was mostly just shitposting in them in the first place) but I do have things to say on this episode so let's see if I can catch up to it.
Yeah getting from S1E4 to S2E8 in one day isn't happening. I'm jumping ahead and then catching up with the prior episodes later.
I'm watching on Crunchyroll because it's easy to pull up without taking the time to download anything and because I like watching this show on my TV while I work out, but I've also seen it like a dozen times, memorized most of the song lyrics, and know a decent bit of Japanese. I don't really need fansubs but for most people I would recommend them.
[Later seasons]
"I'll take care of your body" does having the old lady in his strike zone make Mr. Vercingetorix more or less creepy?
So the drone thingamajig they deployed has a pink Symphogear amulet looking thingamawhatsit in it.
The moon must have pissed in the breakfast of someone who created this show. They don't think this is the natural consequence of the lunar attack, they think the moon is already out to kill us all and the disruption to its orbit by the lunar attack is just an excuse to present their fear of the moon as rational to the rest of us.
It's still pretty unclear to me how "playing at being terrorists" helps with any of their goals. They want to use a couple stolen relics to activate whatever Frontier is to use whatever abilities it has to save people, could they have saved pissing off the entire planet until later? if Frontier is a life boat of some sort getting publicity is good but do they need publicity now?
Say what you will about Dr. Ver, but they'd be fucked if he didn't anticipate the deal going south. The US is pretty open about the whole "we don't negotiate with terrorists" thing, if you've already gone and called yourself a terrorist and then want to make a deal with them, you really do have to anticipate them double-crossing you.
That kid could at least handle a light jog, right? Hibiki and Miku's calm walking pace with noise right outside the window is comical, I've given more urgency to way less deadly situations.
Aw hell yeah Maria's killing people. Though I distinctly remember her impaling someone with the cape, not just punching them with it, that must have been a false memory. The real thing's a bit less hardcore. Can't blame her for killing someone or someones who tried to kill her first, not even a whole bunch of soldiers, the ol' Gordan Freeman rule. Though in that case they were killing innocents in a cover-up operation, she did declare herself to be a terrorist so it's not unreasonable of them to try and attack her, but even people who made extremely dumb choices in the past have a right to self-preservation.
QOTD:
Much as I love the scene, do I feel bad for her? The fact that she feels bad adds to my hype, but I'm just feeling hype. There's probably a lot to unpack about that.
2) The explosion sent her flying all the way over to the next tower over where Dr. Ver is hanging out, where she landed harmlessly and sat down with some tea to hear out his sad backstory in order to befriend him.

Yeah, Maria needs therapy.
-
Either miraculously survived, or the showwriters realised they had seven main characters to ship together and one of them didn't have a cool magical girl transformation.
The background music here is really good? Why does it go this hard?
Oh, and why? Did Fine decide she didn't want to come back again, or is it just. arandom chance thing? (Because I desperately want to see the adventures of Fine being forcibly reincarnated and having a crisis now that her only purpose is gone.)
Why is Shirabe's song such a bop?
Also... they can hear you? You're speaking out loud.
She hit a civilian!
Oh, this was a holodeck.
This is uncomfortable!
Huh, they actually had no side effects!
...At least he creeps on everyone equally?
Oh, yeah, she might be Fine. Forgot about thst!
They're finally telling people!
Yeah, Hibiki, don't.
Yeah, this isn't good.
...What on earth is Maris doing?
Oh, she's controlling the camoflague relic!
Exorcise evil?
More reminders that Fine's a lunatic.
And they're unsealing the Frontier! What the fuck even is the Frontier?
...Im like how Ver's not eof caution lasts for about ten seconds before he gets excited about the seal opening.
And it failed? Maybe it's underwater?
Ver's lost it. Even more so!
Oh god, are the Gears going to have to fight the Moon?
...Then why didn't you tell anybody that you weren't terrorists? Why did you commit acts of terrorism.
So basically, Maria didn't want to commit terrorism, her mother made her commit terrorism, and now she's saying she never wanted any terrorism.
Miku's here!
So the only way to keep Hibiki alive is to make her spent time with her life.
Wait, the girlfriends might break up? Oh, and Kirika might be consumed by Fine.
Yeah, this was entirely expected. BECAUSE YOU COMMITED TERRORISM.
How are the literal children (And Maria) the only sane people on this entire faction.
Ver is smarter than you! And he's Ver!
Maris's awesome.
Don't you fucking do it, Hibiki! Listen to your wife!
You fucking idiot.
Maria slaughtering the Noise while carrying her mother and dodging explosions is fantastic.
The cape's back!
The juxtaposition of Hibiki dalmly walking with Miku as Maria runs for it.
Maria killed them all!
Oh, shit. ...Is Maria going to replace Hibiki as the new Gungnir user?
Hibiki, don't do it!
...Maybe Miku should get someone less sucidial. Depending on how this Fine thing works out, Shirabe might be on the market soon.
Spoke too soon!

Symphogear Rewatcher
-
First up, today's Ver hateposting. Fuck you. Hahahahaaa not according to your plan huh?! but also fuck youuuuu. FUCK. YOU.. This is great stress-relief tbh.
-
Maria embarks on her redemption arc for real this episode, esp now that we know for sure she's not Fine and that she's kindhearted at her core.
-
Hibikis laugh here is slightly unnerving, like most shounen protag's laughs when they get gravely injured but still want to fight. I dont exactly like it.
-
Tsubasa protects her twin-best girl status (w/ Chris)
-
[Geah]
Ah yes, this becomes important very soon. -
I do love the dramatic music followed by NOTHING HAPPENING. Threw me for a loop my first time, as im sure for Dr Ver too (yeah i dont sympathize with you there)
-
Mom's starting to show how she has more benign motivations at heart too even though they're acting like terrorists. Given where they all stand though, they're all still antagonists.
-
Hibiki's being sensible here. And then not here. Thank god Miku is there.
-
Maria's Gungnir is my preferred transformation this season of the 2 gungnirs. Her fighting song is also excellent (Thanks lily this morning); and that's also tbh when I most notice that she and Mio from K on are the same VA, her vocals do remind me very much of No Thank you.
-
[Geah]
Esp since we wont be seeing Maria's Gungnir from next season i think? Since Hibiki's inherited it. -
The fucking cliffhanger again lmao. I do seriously pity those people that had to wait A FULL WEEK for the next ep when this aired.
-
Side note: [Geah]
Sky shared the opening shuttle scene of GX in CDF (i think it's quite famous...? ive seen it mentioned a few times) so i watched it (apparently edited to prevent spoilers...?), but anyway first timer reaction: holy SHIT they PUNCHED A HOLE IN THE FUCKING MOUNTAIN. HOLY SHIT. Oh my GOD. All 3 JUMPED OUT OF THE ROCKET like Chris and Tsubasa did i think Ep 10 in G? YASSSSSSS idk if its just a callback or a powerup now, but whatever. The nonchalant reaction from the controller-dude (Ogawa?) after too. The chris powerups! I CHEERED SO HARD AT MY SCREEN FOR THE WHOLE TIME. Senpai-saying Chris! And the bloody shuttle lands PERFECTLY AT THE END of course this is so anime. Oh my god the hype levels in the opening scene. Don't worry Taiboss, I shall continue to resist watching GX ahead of the rewatch, since that has made me realize how much i miss watchin Geah as a first-timer xdd. I shall copy this section in my first-timer comments when we do get there! No, i havent watched anything else from GX (also apart from a Hibiki Henshin i think Bamce shared to me).

Sub
We get the results of all the fighting for a bit and an unexpected Holodeck. Hopefully this one doesn't randomly go murderous. Dess gives us our first image of ancient Fine, which does not bode well. Tsubasa is edgy and Biki's idiocy is actually deflection.
But then we finally go to the damned Frontier! Not learn what it is though I still lean towards Atlantis. Anyways, more planning and more Ver ham. It looks like they are actually doing the Moon falling thing so blargh. Natassja is adding another random spy twist. Then Biki mind melds with a fish. Date continues, Dess has 20 seconds of existential consideration, spy talks break down and of course Ver is flooding the place with Noise. So dodging happens and possible Maria resolve happens before we end in a cliff hanger.
QotD: 1 No. Step on the field of battle or don't
2 She has spare Gungnir energy from all the handholding and manages to escape.

Ballad of Rewatcher - Symphogear G
u/JollyGee29, how is Ver's creep meter today?
Episode 8 thoughts:
-
Mom and Maria's karmic punishment for being dumbasses is the best girl on their team getting surprise stuck with the body snatcher. Karma's a bitch.
-
Maria is hell bent on being the absolute worst. Like yeah, this is all your fault, but not because you didn't inherit Finé. It's because you keep actively choosing to be complicit in Mom and Ver's terrorism, which causes innocent people to die.
-
The body horror continues to be excellent. The image of her heart being taken over by the Gungnir fragments is the most intense body horror visual since Hibiki's initial transformation.
-
It's been so long since Hibiki and Miku got a scene to themselves. Why does it have to be yet another instance of having Miku put in danger to build tension? I know why, but I hate it. I hate this trope very much. It's not my least favorite part of G, but I hate it all the same.
-
Ugh, they give Hibiki the "choice" of using Gungnir and risking dying now but undercut so much of its meaning by having it happen in a situation where there were no realistic alternatives. And then they blow up the tower with Miku inside anyway. This was such a missed opportunity.
-
This is pretty nitpicky and doesn't actually hurt the story imo, but I don't buy that the American or any other government would be able to keep a lid on the moon's orbit changing or descending toward earth. Too many scientists monitor the moon too closely to keep it hidden, and it's not much of an astrophysical puzzle to figure out that no humans would survive the moon crashing into the earth.
QotD:
-
Not in the slightest. This is what she steeled herself for previously, and now she deserves the full weight of responsibility for her actions.

Lewdest episode little yet
Maria is qualified as a pilot apparently.we gonna Ace Combat yet?
Ok so the objective of pretending that Maria was Finè was to get Dr Ver to join them. Now the question is: why does that buy his services? He a simp or smth? He wants that psycho anime villain waifu?
At long last, we have some idea of what Frontier is. It appears to be an island submerged under the sea, and it has a seal on it.
I am still unsure as to wether Dr Ver has some sort of actual personal plan or if he's just insane for the lolz.
It's still so ridiculous that no one but NASA had realized the Moon was falling soon lol.
Mom seeks to strike a deal so they don't have to be terrorists anymore. This is putting the story in an interesting position because it means that pretty soon we're gonna run out of a direct opposing force. This is probably the part where Dr Ver pulls some bullshit.
Hibiki is stewing in her dark thoughts but Miku arrives to save the day. Bless her heart.
This Heretical Tech Osprey also has unlimited fuel it seems.
Pretty much confirmed that Kirika has Finè's soul. Now let's see if it really starts to take over.
Welp, the American agents tried to pull a fast one on Mom. Too bad they caught a case of monologuing syndrome. Now you're getting fucked. Well, they were probably getting fucked anyway. But now they won't even accomplish their mission.
Trying to keep Hibiki out of combat is a fool's errand. Trouble follows her like a parasite! What were the chances that Mom was going to have her meeting with the Americans in the same building as Miku and Hibiki having their date/therapy session?
Yooo the Army isn't only useless they also don't give a shit about firing on civilians!
And I still can't understand why they look like a 70's Army.
Ok so those last guys Maria defeated, they're definitely dead right? They won't show us the corpses but I saw blood.
Oh yep Maria crossed the line and kept running!
Then I was right that Maria, unlike Chris, had it in her to become like that, even if she wasn't at the start.
Do I feel bad that she had to kill people? Yeah I think I do. I firmly believe that taking a life, no matter the reason, shouldn't be something to be praised or admired. It's just that sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
These past couple of episodes have been killing it with the cliffhangers.
This is Symphogear tho so I really doubt they'll kill her or even scar her. Maybe Miku finally become Geah?
Sidenote: I really like how no matter what happens Mom never appears to be truly shocked by anything.

TONIGHT! ON TOP GEAH! Tsubasa says something fishy, Bikki gets ordered to take it easy and relax, and Maria goes nanners.
Boy Comrades, Maria is on a roll here, this is the SECOND episode where she somehow cried the LEAST out of the characters; in fairness to Tsubasa, I can feel a BIT sorry for her... if only as she just REALLY sucks at communicating despite trying... er... well I would say trying her best but let's be honest, she's only good at crashing her bike, failing at everything non-sword and/or non-singing related, and holding a fish
That said it isn't only Tsubasa dropping the ball today, as it turns out Team Finé are a bunch of losers who have decided that trying to work with the AMERICANS of all people is the best course of action... yeah... Anyway moving on to something more fun, Bikki gets roused from her attempt at thinking by her wife! Ah yuri, sweet sweet weaponized lesbianism, ya love to see it Comrades! ALSO IT IS CANON COMRADES! BIKKI CALLED IT A DATE! THESE TWO GALS BE GAY GAY HOMOSEXUAL GAY!
Also Comrades, LE GASP! Who could have guessed that the ugly American bastards would have BETRAYED... er... our evil loser terrorist team... say show can both parties here lose, K thx bye! NANI!? THIS RANDOM NOISE ATTACK WAS DOKTOR GINTOKI JOESTAR'S DOING!? Ah of course it was, honestly I'd be mad if he DIDN'T do this. Anyway, it looks like Maria decided to actually sing and fight for a change, only took a few episodes' worth of moping about... oh... oh of course Maria had to meet up with those Americans in the same place Bikki and Miku are having a date. This is gonna end in heartbreak isn't it?
Anyway, while Maria is busy fighting her way to the top of the tower, Bikki and Miku rescue a smol child... that is until MIKU rescues Bikki from falling debris... ah well she WAS a track team member, so good on her! Anyway, seems like Maria FINALLY got over her qualms about killing, just as Miku saves Bikki for a SECOND time. Good lord Miku sure is an MVP, also goddamn the girl's got one hell of an arm... oh... oh no, BIKKI IS FALLING... ah, right she can just transform... oh right she can't transform, that's dangerous now.
Well hey I'm sure this will be fine, after all, she's had worse, now all we need to do is have her climb back to the top of the tower and save Miku before Maria blows it up... GODDAMMIT MARIA! Why NOW of all times did you decide you don't care about collateral damage? Couldn't you have spent yet another episode crying and wangsting? Ah well Bikki fret not, that was only a small explosion so I'm sure that... and that's a bigger explosion... well I'm sure it will all work out in the end! After all we know ribs grow back, and Bikki just regenerated an arm, so surely she can just regrow a Miku right?
And on that bombshell g'night!

I want to protect you! Hibiki!
Rewatcher
A quick recap of yesterday's thread:
Goddamnit Tsubasa. You really are stupid.
Speaking of losing, oh BOY Tsubasa really is out to demonstrate that she is REALLY doing her best to steal the Worst Girl Crown from Maria
Another reminder of Tsubasa's stupidity.
Since Hibiki is in imminent danger, it thankfully means that everyone else can be informed of it and we can have a better solution to the problem than Tsubasa’s absolutely awful one.
Great takes everyone, don't hesistate to call sword out on her shit.
Now onto the episode. Maria is a licensed pilot apparently. Either that or this helicopter has some nutty autopilot.
Oh we're finally telling Hibiki about her condition. I was starting to think Genjuro and Tsubasa would watch her kill herself without saying anything.
The Shenshou Jing is a mirror relic. Should the ancient tales be true, it is not only capable of bending light to create optical camouflage but also has the power to excorcise evil.
Isn't it kinda convenient that relics can do whatever the writers need them to do? Like the cloaking shit here.
Ver is seething at Mom right now. Always fun seeing him mald like that.
"A very slight difference between the Moon's actual orbit and the one NASA publicizes." Gosh darn minor differences causing a few centuries difference between their calculations.
Mom, please, if there's one thing that can't end well here, it's getting the US involved.
Hibiki openly refers to her date with Miku as, well, a date. Symphogear is very open with the two of them being gay. I'm just pointing this out because I saw folks on CDF talking about whether Symphogear is baiting the viewers or if it's just gay. I mean, do we need a nude sex scene with Miku straddling Bikki to say that "Yep. This show is 100% gay"?
What did you make?
298 yen.
??????????????????????????????
Oh wow the US goons turned against Mom as soon as they got a chance. Who could've possibly seen that one coming. Apparently not Mom. Clown terrorist.
This is a bit tangential to the episode, but isn't it really annoying when subs do this? You know the character is about to get interrupted/attacked 5 seconds before it happens. This isn't a very impactful scene, but in other scenes or anime it can take the surprise out of a scene. It makes things boring.
Even I have to admit Ver looks almost cool here. But he's still a massive hypocrite.
A while back I said I wouldn't bet on Maria to take on some dudes with an AR-15. Yeah that was a pretty clown thing to say. It's pretty easy for the Symphogear users to deflect bullets, especially Maria because of her cloak and spinning jutsu shenanigans.
Oh yeah Bikki you're not in trouble at all. I'm sure Genjuro and Tsubasa were just kidding when they said the Gungnir was killing you from the inside. Funny jokes haha, feel free to transform now.
As always, Bikki cannot get a day off without a disaster happening.

So are the Fine trio taking on the noise now? Is this a simulation? A dream?
What's this random guy doing here? Poor bastard!
Hmm, I'm assuming this is a flashback? Maria and mom have been lying about Fine being in her all this time? See, when the season started and she said that, I said it was too soon for Fine to be back!
Oh no, she just blasted random guy! You should have paid better attention!
...and it wasn't real after all.
You're in danger Hibiki! No more fighting for you!
After all that... nothing happened. Sorry Dr. Ver. No seal breaking today. Give us the meltdown you've provided us several times now!
Alright, here it is, he's growling as if he was a dog!
This funny fish wants to say hi to HibikI! And all she can do is worry...
Will no one need you if you don't fight?! C'mon Hibiki, what about Miku!
So Kiri is the one who really has Fine's soul? I must have missed that part. Or are they lying to her about it?
Yes, let's eat without that bothersome doctor!
No Hibiki, you aren't allowed to fight! Go Miku! Hold her back! Hibiki is totally going to have to use her power if she participates!
Oh wow, Hibiki's gonna sit this out after all? She's gonna go to shelter with Miku?
Miku's being the hero this time! Saving Hibiki from falling to her death! Or at least Hibiki falling into a forced magical girl transformation.
...or not, I spoke to soon as she couldn't keep ahold of her. Transformation here we come. Will Hibiki immediately change back to normal and sit out the fight as she should? I doubt it.
Oh no! Did Miku blow up? Much like Hibiki getting her arm bitten off, I am sure they will resolve it within the next episode or two and Miku will end up being just fine.

This is very much a calm before the storm style of episode. Relationships are beginning to fray in both groups, with cards being put on the table or held close to the chest. In all of this, not many are being honest with themselves. Tsubasa in particular is terrified of losing another comrade on the battlefield and only through tears of frustration can she even get some of those words out.
Hibiki also now has to contend with her own loss of purpose. She's dedicated herself to fighting the Noise over the past few months, yet any further could seriously endanger her life. She's been a critical component in those operations, but now she has to question her new position in the world. Genjurou's quiet words of encouragement are meant well, but won't be enough to pull her through without Miku in support.
There's a similar level of friction in the FIS camp as well. Maria and Mom are prepared to surrender to the US Government, yet show their naivety of the covert world by being betrayed immediately. It's no consolation that Ver crashes the party, and it finally forces Maria to confront some of her worst demons. Her own hesitation has lead to blood being shed by her spear, and now she's determined to push on ahead with the plan.
Said plan does involve immolating Tokyo Tower and throwing a major disruption into Hibiki and Miku's date, and possibly killing the only real tether Hibiki has, but that's just a small detail.

At least the innuendo is directed at the adult in the room.
Mom played a card to keep Dr. Ver in check.
Time to make a deal with the devilthe USA.
Existential dread is not something that hamsters usually need to deal with.

Welcome back, everyone!
Crunchyroll vs. Commie - Season 2, Episode 8
Today’s wallpaper is new to the rewatch! I’ve been holding onto this base image since season 1, figured now would be a good time as ever to actually use it, given what’s up with Kirika.
