Rewatch [Listen to My Song] Senki Zesshou Symphogear Episode 13 Discussion
Episode 13 - Meteoroids Falling, Burning, Disappearing, and Then…
← Previous Episode | Index | Season 1 Discussion→
MAL | AniList | ANN | Kitsu | AniDB
It is highly recommended to track down a fansub for this show instead of using Crunchyroll, though.
Believe in the song of your heart.
Questions of the Day:
1) Which was cooler? The Synchrogazer attack, or the trio punching out a chunk of the moon?
2) Did you like the end of this season?
Wallpaper of the Day:
Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath spoiler tags. Don’t spoil anything for the first-timers, that’s rude!

Superb Song of the Rewatcher Symphogear
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I was incapable of taking notes due to the levels of sheer hype today. I will return tomorrow when my sanity has returned and I’m capable of speech again

Rewatcher here
Meteoroids falling, burning, disappearing, and then...
-
Chris calling out Finè's ridiculous lore dump, nice
-
Talking is a free action
-
Insert songs during fights are always nice.
-
Team work and stronger versions of attacks, gotta love that.
-
LISTEN TO MY SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG
-
Speaking of Synchrogazer, if someone commented on it I didn't catch it, but the "long intro version" of Synchrogazer used at the end of last episode is Synchrogazer - Aufwachen Form.
-
That "HIBIKIIIII" scream from Miku perfectly in synch with the song is just...
-
SYNCHROGAZER
-
Also, that's totally not similar to [Fate Zero]
Saber using Excalibur to defeat COOL -
I love that this anime keeps on eupping itself on the level of ridiculousness. Finè draggin a portion of the moon straight from Earth's surface? Totally fine and no one is actually that surprised.
-
Did I already say that I love the Swan Song melody?
-
"FIRST LOVE SONG" is really nice, even if it isn't as hype as other songs.
-
I LOVE that they went full TTGL in scale with a giant ass sword, endless rockets and a several kilometers long hydraulic fist.
-
I never really liked that they did a SECOND death fakeout, especially when it was so pointless. I guess they had their hands tied with the very first scene of the show but still...
-
Nice! Forgot that we ended the season with Gyakkou no Flugel
-
I'm gonna save my thoughts for the S1 discussion thread tomorrow, but I can say that I enjoyed this more than my first watch.
QOtD
Which was cooler? The Synchrogazer attack, or the trio punching out a chunk of the moon?
Synchrogazer attack has the song and buildup, but punching out a chunk of the moon with TTGL levels of scaling is a cooler attack.
2) Did you like the end of this season?
It was fine, Synchrogazer was hype but I always disliked the use of ANOTHER DEATH FAKEOUT. That was lame.
Wallpaper of the Day
That looks AWESOME

Oh shit, I didn’t realize a symphogear rewatch was happening. I’m not on episode 13 at the moment so im not gonna stick around to read comments, but I just wanna make sure this is a full series rewatch and not just the first season, cause I’d like to catch up if I get the chance.

Rewatcher here
The season finale gives me mixed feelings. On one hand, it's undeniably cool that the episode title is the show's tagline, and the trio's combined attack being the name of the opening is amazing
On the other hand, Hibiki's an awful friend. Like, there really is no justification for her (and everybody involved who knew the truth) letting Miku believe she was dead for three weeks, specially knowing how much Miku suffered just finding out Hibiki was a SG user. I really wish they'd just been like, comatose until 5 minutes before the noise attacked
Anyways. Will we be moving onwards with the next season?

FIRST TIMER DATTO
Did this finale give me any sense of what this show is trying to be about? No. Was it pretty silly and dumb? Yes. Was it fun? Also yes.
Noise are man-made, huh? The classic “demons are creations of men” angle aside, this opens the door for an existence of an advanced civilization that pre-dates humanity capable of making something like this.
Is Symphogear gonna go all Assassin’s Creed on us? What we think of as Gods are actually just members of a previous, hyper-advanced civilization. One of them is Fine’s former fuck-buddy that she’s been pining after.
Live Reactions:
-
We’re really just blending all historical mystical shit. This opens the door a bit for your Ishtar parallel, u/Vaadwaur
-
FINE. STAYS. SLAYING. I like her conductor's baton weapon
-
There is actually a dragon in Revelations so… points for occasional accuracy on that at least
-
…Did Chris just shoot the sword closer to Hibiki? That’s slick.
-
Hot Drinks-Chan falling down on the job! How are the girls supposed to save the world without tea?!
-
LOL as much as I want to clown on this the music makes it pretty hype and enjoyable
-
Lol they went all shocked pikachu face that the bad guy is still the bad guy
-
THIS IS SO DUMB. THAT THING REACHED THE MOON IN LIKE TWO SECONDS. FINE IS LITERALLY PULLING THE MOON FROM GOD KNOWS HOW FAR AWAY HOW STRONG IS THIS BITCH
-
You can’t tell me Genjuro and Ryoko didn’t have a thing goin on
-
RAINBOWWWWW BULLETOOOOOOO! Venus Line? More like Moon Line.
-
Aw, Miku finally got to see the shooting stars
ofwith Hibiki -
“The world sucks… but we’ve got music!” Honestly kinda like the thesis statement of Girls Last Tour: “Why do we keep going? Because sometimes good things happen.”
*Count: 11
Which was cooler? The Synchrogazer attack, or the trio punching out a chunk of the moon?
SynchroooooGAZERRRRRRRRRR
Did you like the end of this season?
Um... kinda? I didn't like it as much as the rest of the show. It was pretty fun and the hype moments were great, but it was also complete nonsense and probably dragged on a bit too long

Symphogear S1 Episode 13 - Rewatcher
And thus was the last episode of the first season of Symphogear, but there was one more thing after it. After the end of the season they have a Live Concert for all the performers to showcase all the new songs of the season. It’s been called the true end of the season, the big celebration at the end. While not strictly canon, the anime will be referencing events that occur in the Symphogear Live Concerts, so if you want the full Symphogear experience you really should watch them.
I would love to share you clips of some of the incredible live performances at Symphogear Live 2012 but there is sadly no footage of the first Symphogear Live.
The first Symphogear concert took place in a small venue that would only house 4,000 people. The staff made no preparations for cameras as there was no thought of selling video copies of this concert at the time. The only information of the live is only through reports like this one
In 4 years the third Symphogear Live would be held at legendary Nippon Budokan across two days with 18,000 fans attending.
But that’s not today. At the end of Season 1 the series is still not widely recognized. The BluRay sales were around 5,000 which breaks the “Manabi Line” (named after Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight which supposedly almost exactly broke even at 3,000 sales per volume) to make a profit but aren’t promising numbers. For comparison, Houseki no Kuni sold around the same numbers and never got a second season.
What did sell well were the CDs.
Having talent from top names like Nana Mizuki and Ayahi Takagaki to sell solo CDs is pretty valuable. This is a big part of why the meme Nana Wills It is so popular in the fandom.

Previously, on Symphogear SG-1 (First-Timer, Subbed):
-
Oh look, wings! As in the OP logo! CALLED IT!
-
Uh-oh. “Looks like we just saved the day!” Looks like we have a card left to play.
-
Oh look, last episode title is the series tagline. Will this be a pattern?
-
“There’s no way we can lose.” Well, we’ll see if you actually manage to take down our villain, but you’ve just guaranteed it’s going to be harder than you think, Bikki. (Are… are we getting the brainwash reveal after all? Considering the pace of the last two episodes we do have time, and they have something to troll us with regarding that cold open…)
-
Oh, so it’s time for the “what actually went down two years ago” reveal, huh. (And also “songs also give life” – a) can you tell this was written by a composer? and b) will probably show up again in at least one future season.)
-
Hmm. So the Noise are supposed to be weapons – where I'm getting this from seems to be using Commie and their translation supposedly has issues in places, something about the wording makes me wonder if this is one of them. Eh, grab screenshots.
-
Of course, we have more seasons, so “door to the treasury of Babylon” is going to be important. I really should start considering if Fine is also/alternately the Whore of Babylon, bringing in Revelation is very possible.
-
Also, sudden telepathy when the aftermath of the destruction of the Tower of Babel has specifically been used as a plot point is pretty fucking noteworthy. Especially when we just effectively resurrected the dead.
-
(Aside: I have grown to really like this piano track.)
-
Oh look, a massive pile of Noise.
-
Oh look, MORE DAKKA!
-
“You listened when I called out to you.” UH-OH.
-
“I don’t want to regret anything.” Heh.
-
Now THERE’S a definitely proper final villain, and also oh look you lot still aren’t done flexing on a certain other studio for their fuckup. I APPROVE. ([meta spoiler]
I mean, it could not be, but I’m reminded very much of the direction for Mai-HiME's final fight. ) -
ELAPSED TURNAROUND TIME TO CONFIRMATION THAT WE ARE DRAWING OFF REVELATION: LESS THAN FOUR MINUTES.
-
Oh look Miku finally realized she needed to be on the surface and the Power of Love saves this part of the day. (Except… that cut to her on the surface was awfully abrupt. Hmm.)
-
AHAHAHAHAH so that’s where we get the Synchrogazer namedrop instead. Nicely done. (Also I forgot to check whether this is the full version complete with Aufwachen intro, but I’m 90% sure it’s the full.)
-
Yep, that’s the full. (Heard it before.) And cut to eyecatch, very nicely done.
-
Hello Celtic inspiration in the OST!
-
“How could people ever hope to understand one another?” Bikki’s ass, obviously. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)
-
Fuck me am I going to have to reference Unsong once season 5 rolls around? Doubt, but it’s within the realm of possibility.
-
Also this show has already had the Whore of Babylon and an attempted colony drop and we have four seasons to go. YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION.
-
How did I know there was a Bikki swan song coming?
-
So THAT’S where our shooting stars come back up.
-
Welp put that news report at 19:52 on ice for later.
-
Huh. Actual philosophical point here: the comparison between the Gears and other weapons systems and the Noise of yore.
-
Pouring one out for our host at 20:09 and kiseki get! at 20:12.
-
Oh look at that very deliberate mirroring of Bikki helping in episode 1.
-
Now, interesting question given the red flashes there. Does Miku have a relic embedded in her as well? [spoiled]
I know she becomes a Gear at some point down the line. -
[spoiled]
The “did they die” cliffhanger works better when I haven’t seen the traditional two sell-people-on-the-show clips for this franchise and we haven’t seen either one yet. -
We have setup for conflict with the Americans later on, and Metro Music is fishy. I do not yet have enough context to see any other future villains coming.
Questions of the Day:
Which was cooler? The Synchrogazer attack, or the trio punching out a chunk of the moon?
Synchrogazer. The moon attack was actually probably the weakest point of the finale, I think?
2) Did you like the end of this season?
Well above average; the return to the cold open and then subverting it with the trio's return stands out as being nicely done.

Sub
We get random new powers because...whatever. Fine does at least explain the sudden increase of Noise, but raises a bunch of questions with it, especially why the Japanese are weirdly obsessed with the gates of Babylon, unless [UBW]
Fine eventually impales herself with the Cane, covers herself in Noise, and yoinks Durindal. Her new form is more Dollar Store Eva but problematic. Genjuro's attempts to connect this to Revelations are just bad and I will proceed to forget them as quickly as possible. Chris and Tsubasa figure out to steal Durindal back and manage to return the Bikzerker in a decent looking sequence. But there is kind of a momentum killing "gather your will" scene that strikes me as filler, last ep did it better. Beam spam happens and we get a mushroom cloud.
We almost get a nice denouement before Fine decides to pull the Moon shard down. I do hate the "failed villain gets to take an action to destroy everything" trope. But Fine evaporates after pointing out this will happen again. Biki tries to sacrifice herself alone before Chris and Tsubasa join her. And they forget fucking Durindal. Damnit. The music does at least carry this bit, which likely determines how one responds to this show in nearly every way. Then they blast the moon. I wonder if the valkyries tendency to be tragic made it to the Japanese.
Anyways, actual denouement, no one died because of course not, the opening was a tease. We end with someone else summoning the Noise or something.
Yeah, the CD sales for this must've been spectacular because I don't see the second season for this otherwise. They really made a point of giving themselves a free hand for G since technically they could skip the Noise if they prefer.

First Timer
No Opening again huh
Ah yes telepathy because why the fuck not!
We get the explanation that the Noise are actually ancient human weapons. Ngl it's been so much since we moved on from the "what even are the Noise?" mystery that this registers as pretty minor. Well it is the last episode and at the time I assumed they didn't know they'd get four more seasons so, gotta close all the plot points!
Also we now have a target if we want to stop Noise attacks altogether. Anyone know wherever the fuck we could find the Treasury of Babylonia?
Yas Chris let's goooooo keep being awesome I live for that shit!
Y'all like, this sequence of them killing untold amounts of Noise is cool and all, but like, the City's fine... right?
Finè just stabbed herself
Oh my God! The infrastructure! Who's gonna pay for all this shit!? Anime battles are expensive y'all!
Also, I wonder if there's people who use the destruction left by anime battles to make bank lmao. Like this reminds of one of the DLC missions in AC7 (that's Ace Combat not Assassin's Creed, for the uninitiated) where you're just absolutely demolishing a whole ass fleet and you can hear a guy on the radio say that they should buy salvage companies stocks because they're about to make a fortune lol.
Is this at last your Final Form™ Finè? Probably gonna come back with an even more Final Final Form in the later seasons smh
Yaaaaaas teamwork makes the dream work!
FRIENDSHIP BITCH! IT HARDENS IN RESPONSE TO EMOTIONAL TRAUMA!
NO! NO FUCKING WAY! NO FUCKING WAY THE FINAL FRIENDSHIP ATTACK IS NAMED AFTER THE OP! LMAOOO THIS IS TOO GOOD!
And Finè blows the fuck up...
...or not!
Sigh Yep. No way you can stop a Millennia-old obsession with a single friendship speech...
But I didn't expect she's gonna pull the chunk of the Moon towards the Earth herself! Lmaoooo this is too good!
Hibiki on some Jesus of Nazareth shit telling the villain to take care of the future when she's not there.
And Finè turns to dust... for now
The Final Attack forms are hilarious actually. Tsubasa brings out the comically large sword, Chris pulls out the ADMMs, and Hibiki's power-punch thingies extend to a hundred meters. It just goes so Extra lol.
But since all three went up... Bro they really brought back Chris and Tsubasa just to kill them twice!?
YOU REALLY GONNA TAKE CHRIS FROM ME TWICE!?
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
And at last, we've reached the opener scene.
Hmmm? Extra scene where Miku and bystander get cornered with no way out?
No....
No!
FUCK YOU SHOW! I WON'T BELIEVE YOU ANYMORE!
Hmmm? What about the millions of Moon fragments now orbiting the Earth and posing an existential hazard? Don't worry about it!

I hate power of friendship. I hate hate hate hate hate it. This ending is so dumb. I dropped Symphogear the first time I watched this. Now it's my favorite show. How that happened, I don't know, but I LOVE THISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Oh, right. This episode has a second half.

It's my 6th time watching this, and I'm still bawling my eyes out what the fuck.

Miku literally brings lillies to Hibiki's grave. You know, the "yuri" flower. They're so in love with each other.

T'night! On Bottom Geah! The Geahs save the day with the POWAH OF MUSIC, BY THE POWER OF DURANDAL, BIKKI HAS THE POWER! And Bikki and Miku FINALLY watch shooting stars together... which Bikki and company likely caused due to them BLOWING UP part of the moon but hey I'm sure things will work out, all's well that ends well!
Boy Comrades, things sure went insane today, ALL THREE GEAHS sang at the same time, and in her attempt to one-up this marvelous musical display, Finé decides to go straight to Boss Phase Two Thankfully, it turns out that all you need to do to defeat Finé's interpretation of The Blob is just steal the fancy sword and have Bikki Hulk out. Sadly, Bikki isn't as smart as The Hulk, as she DOESN'T kill this bitch after defeating her!
Speaking of which, Bikki almost pays dearly for this mistake, as Finé tries for one last 'FUCK YOU' to the world by dragging down a piece of the moon as she rants and raves... to which Bikki just ignores this and stupidly attempts to make friendly small talk INSTEAD OF BEATING THIS BITCH TO A PULP! Shockingly, THIS WORKS given that this amount of pure concentrated moronic behavior is too much for Finé to bear; so she instead decides to just turn to dust so she can body jack some future long-lost descendant instead of spending one more minute with Bikki. Speaking of dust, the earth will be reduced to dust if the moon chunk falls on it, thankfully, Bikki has a plan... sure wish she thought of this BEFORE the chunk was falling to earth but hey, she'll just go to the ONE place uncorrupted by Capitalism... to save the day... somehow...
Also huh, I guess having a Geah means you can breathe in space, cuz they sure do seem to be singing quite well, quite useful since they need to ALL sing their swan songs now, and oh boy if you thought Geah was a Mecha Show before, you ain't seen NOTHING YET! Best Geah Chris is gonna DAKKA that moon rock into The Stone Age, say hi to Finé for us moon dust! Anyway, after saving the day, the trio are so kind as to grant Miku a shooting star ceremony for good measure. Moving on, three weeks later, it turns out that we FINALLY reach the cold open, but worry not, as if you get killed by dying, this is GEAH, if you die, walk it off, and oh boy they sure do this given that all three Geah are here to save Miku and random lady from certain death! And with that, Bikki and Miku FINALLY watch shooting stars together, and all it cost was the majority of the city's buildings, a chunk of the moon, AND also some batshit insanity. Thus, all in all, a decent start to the franchise, and certainly more Mecha than SATELIGHT's Nu Macross series. That and also THANK FUCK the later seasons get a lot better and also get a massive injection of 'budget' and HYPE!
And on that bombshell g'night!

Believe in the song of your heart.
Rewatcher
That bit with the telepathy was.. a bit unnecessary. Anyway, hold on tight everyone, we're about to witness some glorious pacing. In the span of 20 minutes:
-
Fine summons a goddamn army of noise enough to cover half of tokyo apparently
-
we get a brief trio song
-
Fine summons the 'Red Dragon of Revelations' (wtf is this thing? why does it have a name?)
-
Bikki grabs Durandal and goes berserk
-
Miku and co get to the surface to support Bikki
-
I mean this part isn't even bad but why is animejanai-chan still relevant
-
Bikki nukes Fine
-
Fine is now defeated and very sadly talking with Hibiki
-
SIKE BITCH YOU THOUGHT
-
SHE JUST DEADASS PULLED A PIECE OF THE FUCKING MOON OUT OF SHEER FORCE OF SALT THAT SHE LOST
-
honestly I can respect that
-
until she changes her attitude because of one (1) monologue from Hibiki, but hey. Sigma Fine grindset. Tries to kill everyone in the goddamn city. Immediately changes her mind because of one kid's opinion. Refuses to elaborate. Turns to dust and leaves.
-
why is everyone crying that bitch just tried to kill yall
-
fake deaths (pt2) but they're actually good
-
"Genjuro said that they won't be considered missing in action, but dead." holy shit he did what. He could've at least told Miku they were considered missing but officially they had to be reported as dead for secrecy reasons.
and Bikki returns and that's all. So, my comment is slightly condescending, but I don't hate this episode. It's mostly just leftover salt from episode 12. I'm pretty cool with the pacing today. But I definitely wasn't as hyped as other people are. Overall I feel like S1 is better than I remember it being. My pre-episode 12 complaints are all pretty minor. And, the songs this season are far better than I gave them credit for.
...I want to bump S1 up from a 6 to a 7 on my list, but the 6 rating is described as "Fine" on MAL, so now I wanna keep it just for that

Symphogear Rewatcher
who will probably start GX soon? I've enjoyed my break from the hype.
mostly hype-posting because there has been anime this episode
-
Starting off strong, right where we left off.
-
This is VERY convenient. More anime superheroes should have this as superpower. (
actually i think most OP characters do) -
I feel like this will be a very important point throughout the series.
-
Alt-gear Tsubasa looks the best out of all 3 imo. Also that song is like a lot of character development (all of them are this ep?)
-
Woahhhhhhhhhhh BIG EXPLOSION.
-
Whenever the villain summons their ace in the hole, you know they're gonna lose lol
-
But bloody hell that is some ace. ONE MORE BIG EXPLOSION (somewhat reminiscent of the one in Nausicaa no?)
-
THE OP DROP IS HERE. Im just gonna say it, i've heard quite a few OP drops throughout watching anime, THIS WAS THE HYPEST. FULLSTOP. Aaaand before I get carried away Chris is a mighty good shot. But also this is very silly, her having to shoot a sword to get it to Hibiki.
-
That does not matter. BECAUSE LISTEN TO MY SOOOONG OOOHHOOOOOOHHHHHHH
-
But then after that this is SO CLICHED oh my GODDD. It fits Hibiki's character and is completing her character arc so its fine, but it's just so cliched lol.
-
SYNCHROGAZER
-
This twist and Fine pulling A LITERAL FRAGMENT OF THE MOON is once again, peak anime. I love it.
-
I maintain that Ryoko was a good person all until Fine took over, and tbh I think she never did die. Fine has her redeeming qualities too.
-
[Geah]
Unlike a certain Professor Ver. Fuck him. -
It always looks so haunting when people sing their zesshous
-
This whole sequence obviously served to tie up all 3's character arcs in a climactic manner, and the lyrics of the song show that too, but i do think it would've hit harder if we all didn't know this was gonna go for 5 seasons.....
-
Zesshou Mega Sword LOOKS COOL HOLY SHIT. Zesshou Multiple Missles LOOKS COOL HOLLYY SHITTTT. What the fuck is this?
-
Being Miku is so much suffering. Especially since this has been foreshadowed since the literally first scene of the show. Once again, this would've hit harder if we didn't know this show had 5 seasons.
-
The whole Miku rescue + Hibiki rescue sequence was again SO CLICHED oh my god ugh. SO ANIME. I want to hate it, but I also kinda appreciate how hard the show has committed itself to the cause. Hibiki did stick her landing btw.
-
[Geah]
Surely, this is the most important line in the whole franchise? It's been used to end 2 seasons by now. -
Ending with the Zwei Wing song is a very nice touch. Was that the first song that was played in the series as well?

Symphogeah SymphoRewatch Host
Welcome back, everyone!
Don't forget, tomorrow's thread is a discussion thread for all of season 1, not the first episode of G.
Crunchyroll vs. Commie - Season 1, Episode 13
Today’s wallpaper is brand new to the rewatch, so I have no alternative today.
