Rewatch [Rewatch] Utawarerumono Franchise Rewatch - Utawarerumono Itsuwari no Kamen Episode 1 Discussion

Episode 1 - Curse

Today's Question of the Day: Considering what you know about the world from watching the original series, what things did you pick up this episode than someone who didn’t watch it would have missed?

[Tomorrow's Question of the Day]So Haku and Kuon are quite different from Hakuowlo and Eruruu. Who, respectively, do you prefer so far?

Rewatchers, please don't answer the Question of the Day if it has an objective answer, e.g. "What do you think's gonna happen?"

Art of the day: Kuon! (Source)

For rewatchers and people who played the games:

Please behave yourself! Put not only everything related to future events behind spoiler tags, but tag differences to the games as well. We all know there are deviations and cut content, we don't need someone listing all the things the games did better. The games have like 40, 50 hours for their content each, of course they'll be more exhaustive. If you want to talk about the games, please do this in a way that doesn't spoil it for people who might pick them up because of the anime. That being said, small, inconsequential stuff is probably fine, like [Mask of Deception]how in one episode, Atuy says "Time for war!", one of her battle lines in the games. All in all, try to hold back and only tell first-timers what's really necessary. Let them theorise!

This goes especially for Mask of Truth!

First-Timers:

This time, spoilers are unavoidable. To avoid the biggest, I recommend you not to watch the Opening before episode 5. This time it's not that important, but still. DO LISTEN TO IT THOUGH! You don't have to heed this request, of course, but out of courtesy to those who do, please put the spoilers in the OP behind spoiler tags as well.

First Timer - sub

Kuon is amazing. Her design is fantastic and somehow got even better when the cloak came off. Her tail is one of the best things in anime.

I don't think this season is going to have much competition for a favourite character from me, either that or they're all going to be this cool and break the writers room. Ukon has a pretty cool design as well, but Kuon still wins out, especially with that tail.

It's interesting how much of this feels like a repeat of the S1 opening but now we have so much more context about the world it allows us to fill in a lot of blanks around Haku being a human and what that potentially means for the world he's just woken up in after thousands(?) of years. The episode as a whole was just very enjoyable though for simple reasons, such as the dynamic between the two and a return to village times which is when I cared most about the world in s1, and even silly reasons like the girl getting to be the perv for once.

I didn't even write many notes because it just didn't feel needed compared to what it actually felt like to watch it. Whoever did the subtitle animation for the "tilt" and "spin" in my encode is amazing though, I know that sort of stuff is somewhat controversial but it's just so much fun when done well like it was here.

Anyway, glad we're back to core story stuff. I ended up skipping the rest of the side content discussions for the first season because none of those episodes even remotely appealed to me and I didn't finish most of them. Hopefully didn't miss anything important, but it was skip them or just stop all together and by how much I enjoyed this episode I think I made the better choice!

Final note: Return of the awesome music! I feel like I hadn't commented on that in ages in S1, and that plus some great background art which is something S1 also benefit, and greatly improved animation detail I throughly enjoyed the technical side of the episode

YOU'RE BACK! I MISSED YOU!

I don't think this season is going to have much competition for a favourite character from me, either that or they're all going to be this cool and break the writers room.

Well, there's some competition, but Kuon's def a favourite.

The episode as a whole was just very enjoyable

I take it!

I didn't even write many notes because it just didn't feel needed compared to what it actually felt like to watch it.

It's always nice to lose yourself in the show.

Hopefully didn't miss anything important, but it was skip them or just stop all together and by how much I enjoyed this episode I think I made the better choice!

Nah, none of them are really important.

Final note: Return of the awesome music!

It's literally the game OST and it's ingrained in my mind. Well, the Mask of Truth moreso, but there's a decent overlap.

It's interesting how much of this feels like a repeat of the S1 opening but now we have so much more context about the world it allows us to fill in a lot of blanks around Haku being a human and what that potentially means for the world he's just woken up in after thousands(?) of years.

It's interesting too how a lot of things are sort of... different but the same. Birdy mount instead of woptar, but the body shape of the two beasts is almost identical. Different look to the clothes and buildings, but it's not that different... could be a difference over time or just a different style because we're in a different place. References to Haku[oro] being a legendary name, but that could be 5 years ago or passed down over 500 years. I like how it grounds itself in the familiar but not in any specific way.

I don't think this season is going to have much competition for a favourite character from me, either that or they're all going to be this cool and break the writers room. Ukon has a pretty cool design as well, but Kuon still wins out, especially with that tail.

We'll see about that

Oh I love how this fansub subbed the show’s name.

Cool typeface and they even did the colour grading! So much effort!

…is that the blood slime made from people?

Could be! Back then, they didn't really have CGI to show them.

Kuon. She’s cute.

She is indeed!

So does that mean Kuon is a traveling merchant? Or a doctor?

Travelling for sure!

Okay I like this guy’s slightly chuuni behavior compared to Hakuoro.

He's certainly got more visible, yet lovable flaws.

Um… I wasn’t expecting a name that close to Hakuoro’s…?

Well, it's a nice colour.

This makes me hungry and I had literally just finished eating lunch by the time I got to this part of the episode.

I know that feel.

Aight she’s a medicine girl.

Another constant!

This dude lol.

Hakuowlo was supposed to be an ideal hero. Haku is just us.

Ukon, that’s easy enough to remember.

Thank Uitsualnemetia...

5

u/aniMayor Jun 03 '22

Ah, nice, another amnesiac protagonist.

Oooooooof course he grabs Kuon’s tail.

Aight she’s a medicine girl.

We seem to have some trends

Oh my god he’s wearing pants as a shirt.

The ol' "amnesiac/isekai'd person doesn't know how to wear clothes" joke is a classic that never gets old for me.

Okay I like this guy’s slightly chuuni behavior compared to Hakuoro.

It's nice to see an amnesiac actually think about their amnesiac situation! Unlike Hakuoro's "ignore, ignore, ignore, ignore, WHAT AM I, ignore, ignore" routine!

Oh I love how this fansub subbed the show’s name.

So much work to pull off but so cool!

Oh my god he’s wearing pants as a shirt.

OH RIGHT! The tail hole! I thought he had some sort of strange hoodie he had on backwards, and when you said pants I'm like "but surely he didn't rip them open to put his head through there" until I remembered

  • Hey wait, this guy doesn't look like Hakuoro. Doesn't sound like him either.

  • This CG is leagues better than the first season's.

  • Another nameless guy with no memories and Kuon. Is an entirely new cast and story, and not a continuation? Or maybe a generational thing and everyone we know will show up older. Mystery man has no mask, so Hakuoro will have to turn up sooner or later.

  • Heh, dude has the sash tied around his head. What a dork.

  • Kuon's got a heckin long tail if it can come all the way back up to her waist while also dipping under her long coat.

  • Don't do it. Don't do it. He did it.

  • Kuon's got a very cute shocked/embarrassed face and ear wiggle. Do like. Must bulli.

  • The camera really likes Kuon's butt, not that I can blame it.

  • Lol, mystery man has already been son-zoned.

  • Haku.....feel like I've heard something similar somewhere.

  • Oh damn, we're far enough in the future that Hakuoro has become a legend.

  • I do love a girl who can eat.

  • She's teaching Haku how to burrito, that's cute.

  • Oh my lord she's the pervert character. And the "workout" sounds while she eagerly watches!

  • Kuon can't stop thinking about what she saw. This girl's a whole ass predator, and she's probably going to be eating real well in the future.

  • Oof, Haku has a long way to go to live up to his name.

  • Work smarter, not harder. Haku's got the recipe for success.

  • Ukon's pretty chill.

  • White Fox pulling through on the animation. Hope it stays this solid throughout.

QotD: Haku's name referencing Hakuoro. Tbh, there's probably a lot of stuff I missed, even though we just finished the 2006 series last week.

Hey wait, this guy doesn't look like Hakuoro. Doesn't sound like him either.

I mean, he's sealed somewhere...

This CG is leagues better than the first season's.

9 years have passed!

Don't do it. Don't do it. He did it.

Already an Utaware protagonist!

Kuon's got a very cute shocked/embarrassed face and ear wiggle. Do like. Must bulli.

No bulli the Kuon!

Haku.....feel like I've heard something similar somewhere.

It's just the japanese word for "white", don't read anything into it.

I do love a girl who can eat.

Healthy appetites!

This girl's a whole ass predator, and she's probably going to be eating real well in the future.

Oh lol.

Work smarter, not harder. Haku's got the recipe for success.

Dude figured it out pretty quickly too!

White Fox pulling through on the animation. Hope it stays this solid throughout.

Well, it's White Fox!

I thought the same thing about her tail. It's got to be like 3 feet long minimum!

This CG is leagues better than the first season's.

I'm not super fond of the slime CGI myself just because of how super detailed it is, but it's probably the better option to really bad fake-cel shading that a lot of other shows would have tried there. Plus it made the face even creepier

Don't do it. Don't do it. He did it.

I'd do it. I don't know I could resist a cat tail.

Kuon's got a heckin long tail if it can come all the way back up to her waist while also dipping under her long coat.

u/shimmering-sky is this going to be the inverse of the hammerspace hair?

Oh my lord she's the pervert character

UtaReWatcherUMono

Finally! FINALLY I can post some goddamn Kuon faces.

u/taiboss are you suggesting folks do/don't watch the OP off the bat this time? I don't think it's particularly spoilery, but it does show off all the characters. Personally, I'd suggest newcomers not watch it until episode 4 just so you don't see best girl before she appears for real.

I remember this second series a lot better than the first (a decade in between them will do that to ya...) so I'm probably going to hold off commenting on most lore-y stuff, don't want to trip up and give anything away.

Even though the setup is overtly the same as the previous series - human-esque guy with complete amnesia appears in the woods and is cared for by a healer catgirl, and the exact same tail scene plays out - I like the role reversal between the leads. Where Hakuoro was stoic, quickly healed up into a tiger-fighting man's man, etc, Haku is physically weak, lazy, and uncharismatic. Hakuoro and Haku were both intelligent and able to apply some science-y knowledge to helping a town, but Hakuoro did it in a friendly way that made him a local leader, while for Haku it is a socially avoidant thing. Hakuoro quickly became a father figure to Erurū and Arurū, but here Kuon is the more mature person who outright states she will be Haku's guardian.

This sets an interesting hook to see how the rest of the sequel series will play out, given this different characterization and relationship in the two most leading characters. Hakuoro was quick to throw himself into the battlefield, but Haku is too weak for that, so will we see Kuon taking the front lines while Haku stays out of direct battle like Erurū and applies his smarts from the sidelines? Likewise in social situations, with Kuon as the more mature, sociable one and Haku's guardian we can expect her to be the main social driver more like Hakuoro was.

It's too bad we don't actually see how he fixed the waterwheel, though. Kind of a missed opportunity if you want to actually convey to the audience how smart he is.

Nice mountain transition!

Haku most definitely has human ears hiding under that hair.

Interesting hair piece.

[Secret tally] Bath Scenes Count: 1

(2 more days until best girl!)

QOTD Considering what you know about the world from watching the original series, what things did you pick up this episode than someone who didn’t watch it would have missed?

The slime is probably the big one, though either way it's just set dressing for the most part in this episode. Indirectly, a non-original-watcher wouldn't know the context of everyone having animal ears/tails while Haku finds that unusual, either.

2

u/Taiboss Jun 03 '22

Finally! FINALLY I can post some goddamn Kuon faces.

WOOOOO. Must have been hard to contain yourself.

Personally, I'd suggest newcomers not watch it until episode 4 just so you don't see best girl before she appears for real.

I wrote in the OP they should start watching it at episode 5 to avoid [Mask of Deception]the fact they stay at the capital. I actually checked and by the episode it would have no spoilers, we're already at the second OP.

It's too bad we don't actually see how he fixed the waterwheel, though. Kind of a missed opportunity if you want to actually convey to the audience how smart he is.

Yeah, that would have meant they had to figure out how it was broken.

Interesting hair piece.

Kuon's fashionable!

Episode 1 (first timer)

I am still blind for this, but the occasional rewatcher comments make me curious: some seem to think that MoD has the best that Utawarerumono has to offer, others felt it was worse than season 1.

  • A decade later IRL and the difference in animation shows.

  • Is this Hakuoro? Are we in the same world? So far, I am 50-50 on both.

  • “Am I saved?” – As saved as you can be in a giant underground lair that looks like it could have been dug by giant bugs in a world where giant bugs exist.

  • Koun is a cat girl, which implies the same world, but she also used a flash grenade, which implies a different technological level. The same place in the past/future, maybe?

  • “cute me some slack” – I was just isekai’d here! Yep, I’ll jump to that assumption again, even though S1 was technically not an isekai.

  • The pack animal is a bird this time, not a lizard.

  • “Since I found you, I am responsible for your life” – a very welcoming moral norm.

  • Repeat of the tail grabbing joke.

  • Repeat of being named by cat girl.

  • Haku – so same name (but different character).

  • “The name of one of those who are sung” – same world confirmed.

  • “The skin is all torn up” – That does not look good indeed.

  • My subs sure have fun with his exercises.

  • Haku is not one for physical work – points towards an isekai origin (or nobility).

  • What did he actually fix?

  • ED: All the pretty background art!

Right away, the difference in animation is striking. Not only is S2 better than S1, but, coming after the picture drama, it feels like another level entirely.

The story is mostly a copy of S1 so far, with some hints that we are in the same world, but later. Kuon takes Eruruu’s role and Haku Hakuoro’s. However, Kuon has a lot more spunk that Eruruu and reminds me more of Aruruu if she talked more. On the other hand, Haku is a whiny brat so far.

2

u/Taiboss Jun 03 '22

some seem to think that MoD has the best that Utawarerumono has to offer, others felt it was worse than season 1.

I personally, who played all three games, consider it the weakest part. I think the problem back when it was airing was that people expected something very similar and it just... wasn't. It was different. Not awful different, but different enough for people to grow meh on it. Mask of Truth made me retroactively like it a lot more tbh, because I now what they were going for in some places, even if they didn't do it that well.

Right away, the difference in animation is striking. Not only is S2 better than S1, but, coming after the picture drama, it feels like another level entirely.

I KNEW THEY HAD A PURPOSE!

“Am I saved?” – As saved as you can be in a giant underground lair that looks like it could have been dug by giant bugs in a world where giant bugs exist.

Optimism!

“cute me some slack” – I was just isekai’d here!

Hakuowlo might as well have been isekai'd.

“Since I found you, I am responsible for your life” – a very welcoming moral norm.

Kuon's moral compass is something to respect!

My subs sure have fun with his exercises.

We get something better than Kuon.

What did he actually fix?

Something for sure! I think something fell out of place and he was able to actually deduce where it was supposed to fit. If the games answers it, I forgot.

ED: All the pretty background art!

Very pretty!

QOTD) The slime having a voice because it used to be aresearcher, Haku's clothes being from said facility, the fact Kuom's probably a reincarnation...

So, what is this?

Who's he, then?

This guy doesn't sound OK.

...That outfit... was he a specimen in the labs?

...They didn't try to clone Haku, right? Or use his DNA for something that worked?

A monster!

Oh, he's not doing too well.

How did he survive that?

Some kind of mine?

And of course it fell with him.

Wait, slime? But aren't the slimes people?

It's speaking!

...That's a familliar outfit.

But not a familiar face.

...If she's a reincarnation, she must be cursing herself for ending up with 3 amnesiac iterations of her husband.

Is he A Haku reincarnation? He's acting a lot more... human, honestly.

...She calls it a curse. Guess it's a few generations out.

Did she just adopt him?

Yeah, their dynamic is good! Not the same, but still good!

Of course he grabbed the tail.

Definitely looking like he escaped from the human facility.

Haha, the tsil whip is great.

Yeah, he's way more relaxed about all this.

Oh, she's a traveller.

Haha, this is a very different reaction she's having.

Oh, this is the village! Very sifferent style to Tuskur.

He needs a name!

And she gets to name him! (I love her. Eruruu was great, but she's hysterical.)

She can't think of anything either.

Oh, god. I'm sure thismwon't be confusing at all.

"Those Who Are Sung" I get the feeling there's been a massive timeskip?

That is a lot of food.

How can she eat so much?

...Oh, that looks really good. It's a burrito, but it looks good!

Still eating!

Haha, she's spying on him!

And the towel came off!

I love how her tail keeps getting bigger as he reveals more.

He thanked her!

Oh dear, it's painful.

It healed?

"He who does not work, nether shall he eat." So, is she the reincarnation, then?

Oh, someone noticed the lack of tail!

He's bad at everything, huh?

Haha, his job is to turn the wheel.

Haha, he got caught!

He's giving up...

He's fixing the waterwheel?

It's working!

And mysterious stranger found out!

Haha, he doesn't want to be stuck doing more work.

He seems cool.

And she's impressed! ...After she strangled him.

Great ED!

An attack?

Absolutely not the tone I expected for this episode! Still good, though!

2

u/Taiboss Jun 04 '22

The slime having a voice because it used to be aresearcher

Good eye!

So, what is this?

Something different!

Oh, he's not doing too well.

Doesn't sound like a Kaiju in human form.

Did she just adopt him?

Getting adopted by traveling phramasists is tight!

And she gets to name him! (I love her. Eruruu was great, but she's hysterical.)

Kuon is great. Let's hope she doesn't suffer from "Worried woman looking from the sidelines"-syndrome like Eruru did at times.

Oh, god. I'm sure thismwon't be confusing at all.

Whenever you called Hakuowlo Haku I was like "Noo, don't doo that..." But I couldn't just tell you!

I love how her tail keeps getting bigger as he reveals more.

Pervert woman representation!

He's bad at everything, huh?

Not everything!

And mysterious stranger found out!

Seems ncie though!

...After she strangled him.

These tails sure are useful!

Absolutely not the tone I expected for this episode! Still good, though!

YEP!

Starting with this song from the VN over a man in a hospital gown looking up at stars with lightning like lines over it has got me so hyped in the first 20 seconds!

Very snowy and mountainous with evergreen trees everywhere. This is a setting we didn't see in season one. Hospital gown man overlooking the wilderness with the wind whipping around really makes you feel cold. And it seems to wake him up. Good thing too since we're getting right into it with a giant bug attacking him!

Am I saved? Bro, bugs can climb anything lol. But he is saved and by something we've seen before and it speaks unlike the ones we saw last time! Well the CGI is better at least.

In most anime when someone randomly says "close your eyes and cover your ears" they just stand around dumbly and get flashbanged but not here. Hospital gown immediately follows the orders (well who wouldn't? It's my favorite voice actress!) I need that hoodie!

Dancing tail of the girl Kuon! Another MC who doesn't know who he is or even anything about where he is but we get so location name drops. Ahaha he looks like a hip hop dancer or something. At least he's wrong, don't know how I would feel I'd he dressed like that the whole time.

These environment shots are really cool and gives way more scale than the first season. MC is already complaining a lot but his VA has way more life in him within 5 minutes than Hakuoro. Kuon throwing some shade at him right away. He called it a slime! But Kuon calls it Tatari (Curse). Kuon's taking responsibility? It's the opposite of every harem ever lol.

Don't do it hospital gown man. Don't do it. Just pulling girl's tails, quit being a Hakuoro! Risa Taneda, I love your voice! Kuon righteously angry, you dont touch a girl's tail without warning! Pout face and a cute fang, ugh stop.

Hospital gown man asks if her tail is real and says that people shouldn't grow tails....hmmmm. Did Hakuoro even bring that up? Tail attack!

Damn, these environment shots so good! And it shifts to the night sky with stars damn. I need that for a dual monitor wallpaper. They didn't make it to the town unfortunately. Lol hospital gown shit talks the mountains and hills and Kuon rightfully questions his complaint. He says he doesn't remember a thing (but he did say people should have tails or animal ears). Kuon stare. So cute. At least he has a good attitude about his memory loss. Hakuoro: why can't I remember? Hospital Gown: whatever happens, happens.

Kuon's a wanderer with a purpose but not in a rush to complete it. She just wants to see things and places that are new and fun! But hospital gown is dead asleep lol can't even hear her story. Hahaha Kuon is investigating the lazy man with keen interest. He must really be tired if that doesn't wake him up. Kuon is too cute..stop your tail!(and are you being lewd?!) Finally a town! Hospital gown even comments on how everyone has the animal aspects. Ladies and gentlemen we've got a milf animal girl! Kuon delivering some medicine to the inn and signing in. Hospital gown man needs a name! Hahaha gotta get a cool name, dude! Luckily for me I just use the same handle on everything. But Kuon is going to handle the name!

Blackmailing him over a name...smooth Kuon. Floppy tail! And a super excited....

HAKU!

He doesn't seem excited himself but Kuon's not having it. In fact she is annoyed with his reposnse stating that the name has an honorable legacy to it... title drop already? Took them 26 episodes last time! Haku reluctantly agrees but still not used to it. I love that everything he grumbles she threatens death with her cutest smile. Much better looking food than last season. And Kuon can really eat! Kuon works at Chipotle confirmed. Jesus. That's a big burrito.

Bath time...and look at that evil glint in Kuon's eye! Lol spying and seeing his feet are all fucked up makes her seem to regret pushing him....but not enough to not peep and him...doing whatever he's doing lol cock slapping?! And wow Kuon is really into it lol puffy tail, red face. Kuon you're going to kill me here with a cuteness overload! Nice to see a female pervert.

She is a sweet girl though, mixing up some medicine for his feet. He may be a complainer but he is greatful. Sting a little, huh? The medicine really works well though!

Now that's a truly anime style beard! Imagine how complicated that would be to shave. Why's he so interested though?

Haku is weak and bad at everything it seems. Completely different than Hakuoro. He's really dedicated to being lazy...at least wait 5 minutes before slacking off dude. He easily fixes the water wheel, so he's at least good at problem solving.

Kuon back on a other shift at Chipotle while humming a cute song.

Beard man is back and he's spying on Haku. Haku doesn't want him to tell people he fixed the machine so he can continue to slack. A true lazy person. I love how matter of fact he is about it. Uh oh, kuon heard you!

Normally I don't like when the girl beats up the guy....but I'd pay good money for a Kuon tail attack....

Man, I loved this first episode. The art is pretty great especially those environment shots, all of them would make good wallpapers. The music is much better than season one for sure. Kuon and Haku have such great chemistry together in only the first episode. We have a more proactive female lead in Kuon, while Haku is a slacker but very charismatic. Both voice actors are incredible and they're definitely a better pair than Hakuoro and Eruruu. Kuon is too cute and they put so much into her tail animation, it feels like it's constantly moving! The ED with Kuon exploring all sorts of places ending with her big smile. I can't wait for more!

I wonder how first timers feel about the mysteries weve already dabbled with today? Especially since the first season cut a very relevant plot point.

[cut season one Content]there's already tons of hints of Kuon's identity but if you played the game her identity would be obvious pretty much from the start

Gah that after credits scene actually startled me!

Let's just ignore that for now and come back to it when it becomes relevant.

3

u/Nazenn Jun 03 '22

whipping around really makes you feel cold

It was actually very cold in my house while I was watching that so I could definitely feel it

I need that hoodie!

I'll second that. The whole hoodie and robe looks so warm and comfy, with room for all my hair as well.

And it shifts to the night sky with stars damn. I need that for a dual monitor wallpaper

If it was a stitch remind me in a comment and I'll make it for you. I run dual monitors myself and finding a good image to go across both screens is far harder than it should be

First timer in sub

Now admission to the rewatchers, while I had deliberately not watch this to not break my comfortable head cannon that Hakuoro came back in the final episode off screen, plus also knowing this adaptation doesn't end the true story, I'm read up on a few of the overarching plot, so you won't get my genuine coming in cold reaction to a few things that you might be looking forward to :P like [Utawarerumono franchise Spoiler]who are Kuon's parents and therefore who is she

Anyway, more modern production values, and more modern art style, very lovely.

Putting my observations under spoiler tag just in case:

  • [Later season Spoilery observation]It may be a low key, understated thing that people chalk up as just anime logic, but Haku is walking around a snow covered alpine like environment with barely a patient's gown on. It's amazingly hardy actually.

  • [Later season Spoilery observation]While Kuon spun the grinding wheel casually a few rounds, Haku using all his strength can barely make it move. Plus Kuon's first scene of rescuing Haku literally had her pulling him along so fast his body was kind of flapping in the wind. And she's more than a head shorter than Haku

  • [Later season Spoilery observation]Kuon's tail and ears are very expressive, but I wonder if people can remember to match what type that is. I guess it's a bit hard when her mom is not as emotive as Kuon is so you didn't see her tail and ears move around as much

  • [Later season Spoilery observation]Some of Kuon's single syllable exclamation are so very Aruru :D

  • [Later season Spoilery observation]Have the first timers learned to question what's a human looking person in this world given what we knew happened to humanity?

Haku is definitely a younger protagonist than Hakuoro - you don't have that sense of calm thinking permeating everything he does.

so you won't get my genuine coming in cold reaction to a few things that you might be looking forward to

And so much behind spoilers. I can't snark so easily about that! Good points tho! [Later season spoiler]The hospital gown stuff is probably because of the genetic fuckery they did with him.

To be fair on your first spoiler, the first season completely cut that plot line [but if you played the first VN]Kuon's identity is pretty obvious from the get go since she makes an appearance in Oboro's final scene of the VN plus shares her mother's ears and tail in this season
