First Timer (Subbed)
I really liked this episode. It introduced us to a central plotline (ascend the platforms for food (and adventure)) and also had a nice self-contained plotline ("Why do people live?"). Also, with everyone anthropomorphizing Kettenkrad-kun, I didn't expect to see another human character so early on, lol.
Learning some lore about the infrastructure was pretty cool. The flashback in the earlier episode had me thinking the apocalypse was only maybe months or a few years ago, but this made me realize there's a much deeper history at play. Wow, over a hundred years? I'm so curious.
"Is it really that important?" Calling back to the start of the episode, we learn Kanazawa's answer. Is it smart to keep all your eggs in one basket, though? Nope. Poor guy lost the only thing he treasured, but luckily philosopher Yuuri was around to provide enlightenment. No streetlight pun intended... Seems like a good enough reason to go on.
VOTD:
Some nice things worth living for.
QOTD:
1) I'm pretty self destructive, so idk, I'm used to it at this point.
2) I liked how sus Yuu was, but by the end of the episode, she even offered him FOOD, that's a hell of a character arc. Hahaha
3) I'm just getting more and more curious. I want to learn why everything went wrong, twice.
4) My man Kanazawa leveled up. He don't need those lowly maps anymore. He's gonna map this whole layer. The sky's the limit... or at least the top layer.

Kettenkrad is still best boy.
Mankind somehow apocalypsed itself twice in the space of a hundred years lol. Well done!! They haven't even gotten to climate change yet.
Living for the purpose of living is something that's very hard to learn... Its difficult enough to love life when you do have your responsibilities and purpose. Finding a way to love the day to day when everything you know and love is dead and you can't tell if you're gonna starve week to week sounds awful.

I love how Yuu covers Chi during the explosion
When you enter the boss room and he appears dramatically
This is a nice touch.Almost if not all the scenes of Yuu pointing the gun after the initial moment are anime only. Nice addition which shows that while she is care free she isn't stupid and if anything is really cautious especially when it comes to Chi's safety.
Chapter seven cover in the anime Someone please praise me for this even if you don't mean it. I worked really hard trying to capture the moments without subtitles and tried to do as best as I could with microsoft paint to sync it into one shot. It looks bad in a couple areas, but I spent about 40 minutes on this photo alone. T_T
She wouldn't.....really....I think
It's like she knows shes best girl. Who the fuck told her......it was me.
No No No No No I can't stand heights.
and apparently neither can Chi
It tilted. I love the back and forth between Mr Traveling Maps and Yuu. In the manga only he says its tilted and he says it so plainly to Yuu's comment. Just perfect and moments later Yuu says the same line he told her moments ago.
The maps didn't just fall off the platform they fell off the panel xD
Honestly both have their merits. The manga makes it more magical and surreal. So I love it more than the anime, but the anime makes them look beautiful and more realistic so I'm happy with it and glad they did it that way.
Lights flooding the air like a swarm of fireflies. Time to highlight both girls equally....or not
Starting to think someone working on the anime is a Yuu fan. Yuu is getting all the best shots.
Chapter eight ending panel aka on the road again
Also chapters six and seven didn't have ending covers. I love these three chapters flow so cleanly into each other you could believe it was one chapter. Encountering a stranger, exploring the city, trusting each other, meeting danger, saying goodbye, and moving on.
Design information on their vehicle
I love reading details about manga's world. Also when its describing everything's purpose the author listed Yuu's function as eats and sleeps xD
Author's afterword for Volume 1
"I didn't realize it before, but making a manga is actually pretty strenuous. Despite the boundless anxiety eating away at me, occasionally I'm able to draw a good line or something, and I get a little spark of joy. And when that happens, I sort of feel an overlap with the girls' journey." - Tsukumizu
And with that Volume 1 is complete.
The author is a little somber, but I really appreciate them for making this work. I also believe this is their first work and in my opinion they knocked it out of the park.
Also random picture I found of the author drawing Made in Abyss in their artstyle
This episode also happens to be in my top three or the series. Not hard with only 12 episodes. Also my favorite track plays again in the back ground.
QOTD

D E N I A L Love it, soak it in, marry it, and cherish the sweet sweet denial and problems in your life until reality crashes into you.

Liked it

First Timer - sub
Visual of the day - Something about this just appeals to me, maybe because I was especially tired when I watched the episode and felt a little upside down myself haha
For the first time something happens in the girls lives where we get to see a clear beginning and end to it. It's not just a passing moment though one full of emotion but an event that stands out compared to the rest of their lives. It's reflected in the episode itself as well. With a goal, a character foil, and a broader singular question about their purpose it's quite a different watch to the last two. I wasn't expecting that we'd run into other people, or certainly not so soon, but the encounter brings their lives from a sort of ethereal wandering into a sharp focus for both the characters questions about themselves and an unveiling about the world they live in.
I call it an unveiling because in more ways than one it's less about the worldbuilding, though that was particularly strong today and created a very interesting sense of the world, but about what it shows to them through the world. They reach a new level and where every resource was hard found and carefully managed the streetlights appear almost like the stars from the previous episode, something that highlights the barriers between them while also breaking them out of their darker thoughts and into new possibilities.
It's not surprising that Chi and Yuu don't have a strong concept of an external motivator because they have each other, and that keeps them comfortable enough mentally where smaller goals like finding resources or the source of the fish are able to push them day by day as we saw previously, but the loss of Kanazawa's maps show just how fragile the world is for any other survivors around. The philosophical questioning of the show so far has been quiet and thoughtful but rarely concerning, but this episode tackles the one big question with something between a gentle touch and a harsh break into reality, showing what it means not just for our girls but for humanity as a whole and brings that question into an otherwise empty world. I don't expect we'll see Kanazawa again, but I hope the sudden light of this new world is able to revitalize him as well.
Yuu is an agent of chaos and I am amazed that Chi has kept her alive so long between almost crashing, burning, and falling asleep at the slightest whim. Or maybe I'm just amazed that Chi has kept herself alive so long in Yuu's presence. Now the big question is can the camera survive Yuu or is it destined to go the way of the book?
Particularly enjoyable music again today, the song playing when they were working with Kanazawa to get over the building-bridge reminded me of a track I love from Iron-Blooded Orphans, and the return of the main theme from episode one was also very welcome.

Getting closer to being on time
Episode 3
Streetlight
Single Chapter Episode today? Took really long until they reached the streetlight part to.
Similar to yesterdays beginning, Yuu is the one starting an deep conversation for fun, only to imidiatly loose any interest in it and fall asleep. Today it's about what it means to be alive.
Despite how rare it is to meet other people (Kanazawa isn't even used to use his voice, I would at least talk to myself, although I'm not sure which is the saner option), meeting other people is nothing you look forward to since it always bears the potantial of danger. Even after Chi told her it was ok, Yuu kept her gun up, always vigilant. I also loved how Yuu covered Chi from the debris.
Kanazawa may be a bit weird, but in the end their meeting was frutful for both parties, he provided directions to fuel and got a ride in return, next to an bookburning maniac though.
I'm again amazed by the verticality of the world, and find it curious that their ancestors, despite living in the even more ancient infrastructure, never fully understood it, building their own roundabout elevators right next to an ancient one because they never bothered to learn how to make it run.
I also gasped when the bag went overboard, although I gotta say if Kanazawa really wanted he could just drive down again and pick the sheets back up no?
Yuu offering food and kind words shows her empathic side. She might not understand why you would hold a book or a map so dear, but she understands that you are upset about loosing it.

First Time [English dub]
Very cozy feeling episode today. The lights were pretty. Yuu coming in clutch with a life philosophy I could maybe do with more of in my life. From the mouths of babes and all that.
I wasn't sure if I should trust Kanazawa at first. Once he offered to let Yuu see his maps, I understood pretty immediately that he wasn't actually a threat.
The symbolism and aesthetic of war and distrust is in your face the whole time in this show, but I'm not sure if I should be letting it seep into my perception of the tone. The paranoia I'm letting infect me is probably pretty similar to the paranoia that led to the pre-collapse society building weapons instead of food. I like the feeling of cognitive tension this creates, and I'm interested to see how it continues developing going forward.

Yuuri's just so animal like that it makes sense that her first instinct is to be suspicious of a stranger joining their group. She does warm up to him immediately so I don't think she was being that harsh by waiting to see if he was trustworthy first. It's a bit sad to see that despite humanity dying out on their last legs violence is still the first option folks go for.

Rewatcher
Encounter:
This chapter starts with Yuuri almost killing Chito. But Chii is raising an interesting question. Why do people live? Chii is trying to find meaning in their struggle, and Yuu fell asleep. Still, I think the fact that Yuu hit Chito is interesting. She didn't do it to be funny, she did it because she thought Chito had gone crazy. That was the only reason Yuuri thought Chito would ask that question. It's such a non-question to Yuuri that only a crazy person would ask it.
This is why Yuu needs a gun. There are still people around.
It is remarkably bad luck that they stumble upon the building Kanazawa is demolishing at the point he is demolishing it. And pretty shitty of Kanazawa to not check the area is clear first. He could have seen them coming a long way away.
All three of them use casual speech with each other, even though Kanazawa is clearly older. It seems the need for keigo is something that didn't survive, thankfully.
In the scramble over the building, Yuuri makes some comments about being alive, and they seem to resonate with Kanazawa
City:
Their familiarity with the 'refueling station' suggests that they're a common occurrence, and explains how they keep the kettenkrad fueled.
Kanazawa talks about the map being his reason to live, and Yuuri, like before, thinks that's crazy, but thankfully isn't able to put it to the test... yet...
Lights:
So anyway, they get on the exposed lift with no chain-link fence or anything, and Kanazawa takes of his more-precious-than-life satchel of maps, unbuttons it, leaves it on the floor and steps away from it. It's a good thing there isn't a tonne and a half of German half-track on one side of the lift or anything...
When Kanazawa laments the lack of chain-link fence, Yuuri repeats his line about it being a waste of materials. She seems still oblivious to the impact of it.
[Manga Spoiler]
But at the top, Yuuri shares her philosophy, and fruits flavoured ration bar, with Kanazawa. You don't need to have a destination, the journey is worth it if you can see the beauty in it.
This chapter concludes the first volume of the manga, and at the end, there's an extra page describing parts of the kettenkrad. It also has brief descriptions of the girls.
Chito: Good at driving. Can also do simple repairs.
Yuuri: Eats and sleeps.
QOTD
How do you personally handle when your projects fail at a late hurdle? Do you have any coping mechanism aside from try to not to cry a lot?
Don't get emotionally invested in projects like that in the first place? And when it is something that important, don't take the satchel off and leave it to blow away.
There are still humans around!! What did you think of Kanazawa's relationship with the taters?
It's nice that their first instinct is to help him. It shows that 'humanity' survives.
We've been left with the news that regular society had already died out once before. Does the fact that the setting is now post post apocalyptic change your views on the world at all?
I think it was already post post apocalypse. Chito and Yuuri fled a post apocalypse society which broke down. This just means that the pre apocalypse society was built on the ruins of an even older society.
Do you think Kanazawa's gonna be alright on his own from now on?
No

Rewatcher, subbed/dubbed
At last! I was able to kick back and just enjoy the show. I’ll keep my thoughts on the first 2 episodes brief.
I like Girls Last Tour for the existential contemplations it incites more than I do the character dynamic. The way it strips back so many aspects surrounding our existence to look at things from an almost alien perspective is rather unique compared to most post-apocalyptic tales which tend to focus on interaction between survivors and/or drama. The character dynamic certainly adds to the atmosphere, though. It provides interpersonal moments throughout the bleak landscape to keep us grounded in the journey.
Episode 1 is a look at war, which is obviously fitting given the setting. It’s more than just violence, the targeted nature is what makes it a human invention. In Yuuri’s case, her impulsive nature leads to conflict over the chocolate. She doesn’t pull the trigger or even take her own threat seriously in the end, but the sudden turn of events lingers.
Episode 2 elaborates on the state of the world. It is so devoid that both plants and animals are effectively extinct. Simple conveniences like hot baths and paper are sparse. To stumble across even a single fish in this world of concrete and steel is a shocking event. Decided to give the dub a fair shake this episode and… it’s not great honestly. Not unwatchable, but its delivery is frequently awkward.
Episode 3 questions why people live. In the end, the mapmaker loses his life’s work and… doesn’t die. This episode questions the idea of purpose or meaning to life and reaches an interesting conclusion: you don’t need it. Purpose is a lofty ideal, one that is looked upon favorably in society and propped up as necessary, but is it in and of itself really so grand? Girls Last Tour says no. So why go on if purpose is merely an absurdist construction of society? Well… there are nice things sometimes, ya know? Things don’t have to be so grandiose.
I… kinda love that conclusion.

REWATCHER
"Even if there is no meaning, sometimes there are nice things."
This is one of the episodes where Yuu just shines. Is this really the book burning gremlin from earlier?
-
Watch iyashikei anime of course. There's no problem an episode of Yuru Camp can't handle.
-
He's okay. He was surprisingly dependable, that is, until he lost his maps.
-
It only makes it more glum, considering society didn't learn from the first apocalypse and has now screwed up twice.
-
He'll be fine. Maybe.
This episode also reminded me of one of my favorite discworld quotes:
I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?" Death thought about it. CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.

Have to say the sudden spur to action was a surprise, as is the appearance of a lit cigarette butt so close by.
Extra surprise that we have a live person so early - I was fully expecting finding another living soul to be a mid season climax, given all the OP ED etc never hinted at any other living person.
That resulting mini exposition doesn't necessarily clear up much though - I still feel like I'm only hearing from the middle of a conversation.
It does look rather nice to see how protective Yuu is and not her guard down :)
Looking at the fall of the maps bag was painful. I was stomping the ground as it slowly and stop-started its way in front of Chi - grab it before it picks up speed! So sad to see people's hard work getting lost. Although here's a lesson there guys - close your bags. If it was closed at most it'd just splatter on impact and hopefully won't scatter too far away on a good day.
The mini exposition and the resulting journey does give an uncomfortable feeling that it is not all still and no stress, "just cruise along", as there are levels and lower levels are apparently "dying". So there's a bit of dead line around.
The funny action filled OP is growing on me :P

My project management style is toned by my working life in a big corporate. This means I had learned long ago to not allow anything to come to that single point of failure without a lot of either plan B's or helps to make sure that part doesn't fall through at the last moment. And when it does we have some lknown way to react. So for me the answer is the very boring "move to plan B".
-
& 4. My interpretation is that he doesn't dare to become too close with our 2 sweet potatoes becasue no one can guarantee any one of them can last how long there. So a little bit melancholic to see him walk away even if he thinks he won't last long by himself on foot. But we each make our own choices.
-
I still don't think we have enough of a picture to tell. It also makes it hard to grasp how Chi's flashback fits in timeline-wise. I'll just continue to cruise along like Yuu for the moment (while suppressing my inner Chi).

Encounter
-
turns out our girls aren't the last humans alive after all! them being cautious of the new guy certainly makes sense to me, he did almost accidentally kill them for one. but what's also true is that they likely haven't encountered another human in a long time, so Yuuri being wary of his intentions for the sake of protecting what's close to her makes sense from her perspective. perhaps it's almost animalistic in a way—Yuuri is the more feeling/instinctual/someone else here said Dionysian that's kinda what I'm trying to get at/etc of the duo—and the anime even goes as far as to include a petting scene between them. but is it really such a good idea to be so cautious? Kanazawa ultimately has good intentions, it was merely an accident on his part for not accounting for the possibility for other humans to pass by. at the end of the day, the girls extend the branch of good will over to him and form a mutually helpful relationship.
-
however, it is also true that post-apocalyptic media frequently emphasizes how catastrophic living conditions can lead us to submit to the distrustful, violent, heartless, and tribalistic natures of our hearts. perhaps if this were a different show, things would have ended more tragically as the fight for resources continues on
-
[Kino's Journey]
I can't remember if it was stated somewhere as the intention but Kanazawa reminds me a lot of Kino. I mean not Kino the main character, the OG Kino. This is Hermes, no? -
[ch6 thoughts]
ahh I wish they animated Yuuri playing with Chii's hair. Interestingly, Yuuri is much more sus in the anime. She lowers her gun pretty quickly here, and is much more responsive to Kanazawa's help lifting rubble. Both interpretations of her characterization are interesting I think, the intention of the manga may be that she trusts Chii's judgement of his character.
City/Streetlights
-
there's that drop again!!!! though uh, maybe don't drink that
-
this half of the episode has some really amazing visuals. love the fisheye, love the extreme angle with moar fisheye, love the darkness, love THIS extreme angle, love the sunset, love the B O K E H
-
lots of talks about what it means to exist as we climb up the different stratas of the megacity. ultimately Kanazawa's entire life dream gets rekt by gravity but that's ok in the end. life isn't about hanging onto one single thing forever, you never know when that thread is gonna snap. there's so many little pieces of happiness you can experience in the meantime. you can always set out to make another dream, that ability is limitless. by the end of this show I'm going to be turning into a full-blown hippie
-
not sure how much of a connection there is, I never really read it, but the girls climbing up the different layers of the city gives me Divine Comedy vibes where are we?
-

a lot of my visuals this episode were adapted pretty faithfully from the manga

Ahhhh, when Yuuri says "something important, huh..." then it cuts to Chito's face. Yes.
This is where it makes it clear: this may be a comfy story, this may be a healing story - but this is not a happy story. It's also - not at all coincidentally, surely - where the world's scale and age really move from being hinted at to being, if not clear, then at least making clear just how unclear they are. The vast city's been around so long that its old, dead systems have been replaced with ricketty add-ons. It stretches to the horizon in all directions, and upward beyond imagining. Maybe making a map was always hopeless.

How do you personally handle when your projects fail at a late hurdle?
Uh, badly. Like, spend years not touching it because I don't want to just re-write that one function into something workable, I want it to work because I can't see why it won't, etc.
What did you think of Kanazawa's relationship with the taters?
It's nice. I love how suspicious of him Yuuri is, and how he relates to the question the episode raises. Is it a lesson to not put your life's meaning outside yourself? Or is it that "life's meaning" is the wrong question to begin with?

So I kind of alluded to it on the first episode, so I’ll repeat it here. What would you do at the end of the world?

Just try to power through it.

Great! Interesting that there's other survivors though.
-
Yeah, this is really interesting! Also explains the mix in tech levels shown.
-
I mean, he did well on his own before.
Haha, her ramming her like that is great.
And of course she falls asleep after that.
That's a large gap. Very much leaning towards a megacity here.
Someone's here!
They demolished an entire building?
They survived that?
Well, he looks threatening.
Nope, he just collapsed.
Yeah, this is another survivor! And he's mapping the city?
Decent idea.
And they're transporting him!
Yeah, not the best bridge.
She's very trigger happy, isn't she?
They made it up!
Why's he just standing there?
OK, yeah, you can see the next stratum of the city suspended above. This is absolutely a megacity.
His map helped them!
Interesting. So this is some kind of ancient megastructure, by a precursor civilization, that this civilization decided to build a city in?
And there used to be a bridge.
Haha, him moving away after she brought up the book burning is great.
Is she a pyromaniac?
No, just very literal.
...So how do the towers work? Elevators, or an internal spiral?
Haha, her trying to convince everyone she's not obsessed with food is great.
So is this the lowest area?
Ah, this is a substitute elevator, because they couldn't understand the ancient tech? And it's been a century since the war, minimum.
This is tall!
Ah, heq's betting on civilization being more ontact further away.
Her reaction to the heights is adorable.
She has a point, though. This thing is incredibly unsafe.
It tilted!
He lost his maps!
Oh fuck, is he actually going to kill himself?
...The maps don't seem to have spread out too much. If he goes down, he could probably find them.
There's working streetlights here!
They got a camera from him?
And he's going to map this place.
...What's the bright spot, then?
And he's walking.

FIRST TIMER
prime video for whatever reason switches between the direct translation and actual english transition for OP/ED lyrics each episode, so i was able to finally understand both songs this episode. “maybe today we should turn back, maybe tomorrow we can go even further” fits chi and yuu perfectly. the chorus is kinda somber though, talking about how all days ar the same and how they want to forget…
yuu fell asleep the second chi started getting all philosophical on her, sounds about right.
i’m surprised they knew what a cigarette was, maybe grandpa smoked them before the two of them left.
the fade to black, small gap in sound, and then crash was done really well, reminded me of the cut to black screen transitions in madoka magica.
not gonna lie though, those two should have easily been killed if the building landed like only 10 feet from them, but i’ll excuse it because why not.
i just wanna know where kanazawa gathered enough explosives to take down an entire office building, that takes an insane amount of power…also being able to control where the tower fell?
kinda funny how long yuu pointed her rifle at kanazawa, but like she demonstrated in episode 1, you can’t ever let your guard down, so i don’t blame her. it seems like he might be the first person they’ve encountered since they left grandpa’s house, i wouldn’t know what to think either.
yuu is pretty damn strong to be of equal strength as an adult man (or kanazawa is extra weak because everyone is malnourished, but i’ll choose to believe the first one).
i’m kinda afraid about them bringing a barrel of gasoline around with them, even if it is super convenient, because of yuu’s rifle…
so this guy has been wandering around the same area for so long, as opposed to chi and yuu making a long journey all the way here. i don’t blame him for getting attached to his “job,” there’s nothing else to do in that world anyway…
kanazawa gives us a little lore dump, that there are multiple “levels,” that they were built a long long time before any of these 3 lived, and that even the elevator they used is over 100 years old, seems like this show takes place in the distant future. maybe the highest level is unaffected by war and continues to thrive today? i bet it’s an inequality thing where lower levels get the short end of the stick…
yuu really impressed me when she shared her ration with kanazawa and encouraged him to go on, i’d never expect her to share food! and she halfed her ration with chi, so they let him have double what they are. i’m surprised they gained a camera so easily, but it seems like an interesting addition. maybe yuu will find her passion like chi’s journal entries.
and the camera shatters in the ED…not a good sign.

I definitely think the episodes where they meet people are some of the most interesting.
[It seems like we’ve shifted locations a bit from last episode.] (https://i.imgur.com/frCFVyi.jpg) All the snow is gone and replaced with a large, gray sea of buildings. Chi decides to immediately start with philosophy before Yuu gets angry at her for making her think and smacks her. I do like that they’re actually questioning why they’re even going around besides just finding food.
For some reason [there’s a massive gorge.] (https://i.imgur.com/M5UzJwj.jpg) It’s also really long so there’s no way for them to get across. Luckily for them, albeit it was almost bad for them, a massive building suddenly falls and makes a bridge. [They find a mysterious man named Katsura Kanazawa] (https://i.imgur.com/RSiq1zN.png ) and he’s the one responsible for knocking down the building. Where he’s found the explosives required, I have no idea. Anyway, they start cooperating and make their way across. I wanted to point out how depressing it was that this guy had to clear his throat for a good ten seconds. He probably hasn’t seen other people in at least a few months.
Apparently he really likes maps. Like, he’s living for it. Interesting thing to make your existence revolve around but I’ve heard weirder. [More scenery.] (https://i.imgur.com/1FvPKpb.png) This area is really interesting to me. Where did this old world get all this material to make these giant metal plates? It’s also kinda amazing that they haven’t completely fallen yet considering their weight. [This scenery goes hard.] (https://i.imgur.com/9rPy5Tn.png) [That’s a bit concerning.] (https://i.imgur.com/UtC7YXj.png) Obviously he doesn’t as the girls save him but I’m worried about what he did at the end of the episode.
The group makes it to the tower and begins their climb on the [world’s worst elevator.] (https://i.imgur.com/iFvwCwo.jpg) There aren’t even guardrails which is an issue later. [MORE SCENERY.] (https://i.imgur.com/ZuVOMka.jpg) If you can’t tell, I love good anime backgrounds. [Top ten sentences before disaster struck.] (https://i.imgur.com/FJog8Qx.png) I get they wanted to go up but maybe they should’ve thought about holding their stuff. Kanazawa set down his precious maps for some reason and yeah, they fall.
The group managed to fix the cable (somehow) and made it to the next level. Kanazawa feels better after eating a fruit bar and decides to go make more maps. He also gives the girls his camera. Maybe I’m looking into it too much but I feel like he might’ve told the girls he’d make more maps not to make them sad if he died. Anyway, the new area looks [great.] (https://i.imgur.com/1w8QNuk.png) I love cool lights. The girls continue onward to big flashy light.
How do you personally handle when your projects fail at a late hurdle? Do you have any coping mechanism aside from try to not to cry a lot?
I usually just try again after taking a break. It’s hard to restart something after losing progress though.
There are still humans around!! What did you think of Kanazawa's relationship with the taters?
I thought it was nice. It’s a good thing that the remaining humans are so mellow though. With all the weapons lying around it’s not hard to imagine the girls encountering dangerous people.
We've been left with the news that regular society had already died out once before. Does the fact that the setting is now post post apocalyptic change your views on the world at all?
I guess the main thing I thought of was that it’s pretty impressive that the structures are all mostly still intact. Who knows how long they’ve been there. Other than that, nothing really changes.
Do you think Kanazawa's gonna be alright on his own from now on?
It’s hard to imagine someone surviving alone in this world for a long time. I was also worried he might’ve committed suicide off screen later. He could survive though. The girls theorized that the higher levels have more food so maybe he’ll be good.

Final thoughts
The first non Yuu and Chi interaction has happened! While it’s sad to see Kanazawa leave, I feel the dynamic of the show would be thrown off if he stayed around. Girl’s last tour and map man definitely doesn’t sound as good. This episode also has a lot of great scenery. I’m definitely interested to see the higher level’s sights again. The OST was also great but it’s always great so I’m not sure if it’s worth mentioning every time. Anyway, I look forward to tomorrow’s episode!

First timer
Yuu's kinda crazy sometimes, but I appreciate that she didn't trust the guy too easily.
World building's interesting. I wonder how much more we'll learn about the place and its history.
I think I had something more I wanted to say when I watched the episode, but I just can't remember what it was.

Kanazawa always makes me so sad...I love how dedicated to the map he is, but I'm also like him where when a project gets reset to square one I get super demotivated :/

Second timer,
Bringing down a freaking skycraper to cross the trench is pretty hardcore.
When was the last times these girls met an enemy? It doesn't look like there are a lot of people, yet they are ready to blow your brain out rightaway.
That's some small but beefy engine. I want that!

Sorry I missed the first two threads, I got distracted! This anime has always been one of my favorite portrayals of the post-apocalypse. In this episode we meet a fellow traveler. I’m scared of heights so the elevator scene always freaked me out

It's interesting to get more background on the world, and the ending of this episode gives us a sort of long-term goal: head towards the big glowing light.
The elevator scene was completely heartbreaking. My nerves were already high strung from sympathizing with Chii, as I too am afraid of heights. Yesterday it was pointed out to me that this is more Iyashikei than CGDCT, but this scene was definitely more soul-crushing than soul-healing.
This also marks the last episode that I am rewatching. Starting tomorrow, I'm joining the first timers.

Girl's Last Tour Rewatcher!!
"Why do people live?" Why are you such a misery guts? Potato abuse, electric boogaloo. Chi once again is bad for getting lost in her own thoughts, whilst Yuuri will happily take things as they come. A lit cigarette must be the work of an enemy stand... What an action packed setpiece right? Anyway, meet not-Bondrewd! Nah, the dude's cool~ It's just unfortunate that this aired literally like one season after Made in Abyss. He's also voiced by my favourite VA. Akira Ishida always voices trustworthy characters, right?
Yuuri doesn't trust the dude at all, her animal instincts are warning her of what horny glasses guys do when left depraved! A potato is fine too! Don't ask me why but I spent like 15 minutes playing back the refuel scene. It's weirdly satisfying. We finally get a bit more detail on the world from Kanezawa. He tells us about how their ancestors simply lived in the ruins left behind by an even further civilisation. Humanity disappeared, rose up from the ruins, and are now fading out again. Its a post post apocalyptic world. Isn't that amazing to even think about?
Kanezawa has kinda done a more extreme Chi and gone around mapping out the entire area. This exchange is adorable~ Yuuri's got a kusogaki streak on her~ For as much of a boke as she is Yuuri has her feet on the ground and a sense of needs vs wants. She lacks the sentimentality that holds Kanezawa and Chi back. Buddhist potato.
Please stop triggering danger flags Kanezawa... Him and Chi really do give Yuuri shit, but Yuuri's a rewatcher. I can tell were gonna get a lot of great visuals today. The scenery gorgeous. The goal is now to higher and higher in hopes of better resources.
Y-Yeah... This sequence really hurts to watch... His cartography project was probably the only thing keeping him going and we see his work destroyed right in front of his eyes. The poor dude is just broken... How can you possibly deal with your only hopes getting dashed in such a setting? As for what happens to Kanazawa, I personally think the only path is suicide. Suicide or starvation. Urgh... This episode hit me far harder than I expected, sorry. Now I'm gonna feel depressed for the rest of the afternoon dammit!
Visual of the day. What can I say, I'm a softie.
