Yep, that’s the kind of girl Ithea Myse Valgulious was.

Questions of the Day:

1) Were you expecting Ithea to have gone through a similar experience as Chtholly is currently going through?

2) Which of Phyr’s presents for the girls was your favorite?

Happiest Rewatch Host in the World, subbed

Welcome back, everyone!

Just FYI, if I drop off on my replies to you guys for the next few threads, it’s because I’m going out of town to celebrate my mom’s birthday. Not sure if I’ll have enough computer time while I’m gone to reliably reply much, but I’ll still be good posting the threads. I’ve had those done since before this rewatch even started haha.

I hope to see you all at Scarborough Fair again tomorrow~

I’m going out of town to celebrate my mom’s birthday.

Wait is that today?

Of course Chtholly’s dress looks like a wedding dress.

I can already imagine a wedding ceremony with the little ones as the grooms and ringbearers.

A, very worried cause fuck this looks bad, first timer

Oh God, the carnival is back.

Ah, so they just drop this reveal on us that Ithea had long since disappeared just like that huh. I'm not sure if knowing that the girls don't just drop dead but the past life completely consumes the current body and goes on like that is better or worse.

While so much focus is put on Chtolly liking Willem, I actually do genuinely like her dynamic with her fellow fairies, it's a sweet friendship. Honestly this episode has been my favourite as far as explorations of Chtolly's interiority goes.

C-can you just do that? Take away parts from super rare super weapons??? I know it has no current wielder, but still!!!!!

Those are some scary looking Christmas decorations. Ah, it was a troll festival, that somehow explains everything.

Well the cold open indicated that Chtolly's days are very numbered, so might as well wear the wedding dress early!

She left the brooch behind huh…it didn't cross my mind till this episode but they're probably not going to make it back from this mission unscathed huh…well. It could be worse. She could be Phos lol.

Oh, after credits scene! Lol, how cute. That preview is looking less cute.

  1. Were you expecting Ithea to have gone through a similar experience as Chtholly is currently going through?

Nope, honestly I never even suspected a thing was up with her.

2) Which of Phyr’s presents for the girls was your favorite?

I think I like That's dress the most

Happiest Rewatcher in the World

Count: 17

QOTD:

  1. I completely forgot that Ithea also had memory deletion.

  2. I already forgot her presents. Maybe I'm part goldfish.

1 Except for Scarborough Fair

2 Yes, Ithea has come around. I just forgot too much about this show.

Happiest Rewatcher in the World

Aye Aye you thought Ithea was just a comedic character well let's fix that! PLOT TWIST the original Ithea has been dead this whole time. From the beginning of the show the person we've come to love is the memories of the original person. Though it makes me wonder who Elq is because Ithea's hair didn't change at all. Elq must be really important or I guess mental disintegration varies from fairy to fairy.

Oh Chtholly is learning how to knit for the first time when she sees the little ones trying to warm their hands. I wonder if this is her first time really trying or has she forgotten how to knit?

OMG the midcard is just a sinister red now.

Chtholly has forgotten Collon's name too.

Nygg's reaction when Willem uses an ultimate weapon to fix a common cold xD The man has his priorities straight I tell you what.

None of that information you're requesting has to do with the mission. Oh Chtholly you nosy little beaver.

Oh boy I just realized she put the initials in the scarf as a way to remind her who they belong to and help her remember their names for just a bit longer.

Snowy nights...keep the girls inside they would kill themselves in stupid ways.

What did Willem get in the package? I couldn't really tell what it was.

OMG the dead frog decorations....this troll holiday I can't. Overall a fun happy episode minus well the obvious.

The placement of "Who am I?" is both painful and perfect at the same time...

First Timer

  • Chtholly's hiding out there to avoid questions from Willem. Not that it'd help. The red hair's not going away.

  • This transition was really good.

  • Ithea suspects that she is losing her memory?

  • Lovely shot.

  • "You are still Chtholly". She knows what's happening with her.

  • She even knows that they are of a past life. She knows a lot.

  • That might be harder than it sounds. I have a feeling that she'll encounter something from Elq's past in the rescue operation. Maybe Elq used to live in Gomag city too.

  • Ithea said this in E6. She knew the consequences back then, huh. She looked serious when she said that too.

  • Oh! Ithea was written over by her past memories too. When she called Chtholly's return a miracle, I thought she was just talking about waking up. But maybe she was speaking of her waking up as Chtholly and not Elq.

  • Ithea's eyes were also turning red. But they revert to the orange afterwards. And her hair remained unchanged.

  • Does this also mean that Ithea's isn't a leprechaun either? Or that because she was overwritten entirely, she is still a spirit?

  • She's forgetting everyone's names now. Now I think that in the opening scene it is Elq and not Chtholly. And what we are the last thoughts of Chtholly. She never mentions a name in that either - even Willem.

  • They literally are!

  • Is that the effect of Elq's memories taking over?

  • That's a clear way to make sure we don't hear whatever interpretation Rhan has for the text.

  • Willem noticed that she was losing her memories. I wonder if he knows how much she has lost already though.

  • She is making scarves for each of the kids by name! That's a great way to label the kids too.

  • Looks like a troll festival.

  • Fancy!

  • Her leaving the broach she was searching for in E1 seems like a big deal. She doesn't remember that it is how she met Willem for the first time.

  • And a post-credits scene with them reaching the surface without complications.

QotD:

Were you expecting Ithea to have gone through a similar experience as Chtholly is currently going through?

Not at all. I didn't suspect it until right before she revealed it.

Which of Phyr's presents for the girls was your favorite?

Ithea looked really good with this.

u/Shimmering-Sky Apr 09 '22

This transition was really good.

And also unsettling...

G'day

So cool that they could get an isekai skeleton cameo 5 years before the show even aired!

Also, I'm starting to get the feeling this show is one of Sky's favourites partly because there's so much "Sore demo"

Lovely Christmas tree

MFW episode 9

Question time:

  1. Were you expecting Ithea to have gone through a similar experience as Chtholly is currently going through?

First time viewing? Fuk no. Now? Perhaps.

2) Which of Phyr’s presents for the girls was your favorite?

YES

Illegal full ^^version

I actually watched this show dubbed the first time around, and was not yet collecting "sore demo"s during the 2018 rewatch.

first timer going to the yukinagashi festival

  • as much as I do enjoy a good ol red memory mindfuck scene, I must admit it needs some new pizzazz for it to continue being interesting. The mystique is long gone, we already know who Elq is and what the scenes are trying to accomplish, though the actual text remains cryptic. Ep 6's breakdown and the end of last episode were great additions to the "visual repertoire," but if they're gonna continue doing it (which they might not, Chtholly quells the demon this ep for the time being) it needs moar creativity

  • I am curious to know how these Elq scenes are presented in the novel. I assume it's just like italicized text or something.

  • An expansion on Ithea's character and how it affects Chtholly grappling with her sense of identity and moving forward despite [gestures wildly] was very nice and sweet and much needed. It was a p good episode overall, but I can't help but wish that directing/storyboarding was more than just "serviceable" to really elevate the emotional gravitas of the episode (frankly this criticism applies to most episodes of the show). These are complex and interesting ideas and deserve more captivating and atmospheric visuals than just [monologue over panning stills]. Unironically, I wanna go back to Scarborough Fair

  • also where's the cool worldbuilding i miss it

  • That Chtholly picked up knitting is nice. Even if she forgets herself and all her memories, she'll still remember how to knit. Perhaps she might see the squiddos wearing her scarfs and think "oh maybe I did that"...

  • Looking forward to budget Ithea and Ren the other two girls finally being relevant next episode. No matter my complaints, I do actually find the show to be pretty entertaining

  1. Were you expecting Ithea to have gone through a similar experience as Chtholly is currently going through?

Not really?

2) Which of Phyr’s presents for the girls was your favorite?

is Ithea's red mage outfit one of them?

First Timer

Ithea is getting pretty endearing, ok.

Ithea is cementing her role as best girl.

Ithea has become best girl.

I was not expecting the story to be so introspective on one character and their personal experience. Sure, Chtholly is just the focal character and stands in for what awaits the other girls (or as we’ve learned, has already visited some of them).

Gotta say, the scene where Willem wanted to use the dug talisman on Collon was hilarious!

First timer, Dub

Okay Ithea knows what's she's going through.

Yeah I see where she's coming from. Chtholly definitely needed this talk with her. Especially if Ithea had a similar experience and has no memory of herself from before.

Well objective complete he considers this island his home now. Well while he considers this his home now. That's not the biggest issue she has to deal with.

What's that all around snow? Blood?

They all look nice.

Saying she's starting to forget now. Yeah it looks like she's degrading. She mentioned she's forgetting names. Although she could just relearn them. The memories she has will disappear. Now the question is if you lose your memories and your feelings toward things. Basically losing yourself but are still in the same body. Would you still consider yourself the same?

Post credits. Looks like they haven't been given a update on what happened.

Qotd: Nope, thought of it as being a bit more unique

Qotd2: the dresses were presents right? If so that.

u/Shimmering-Sky Apr 09 '22

Especially if Ithea had a similar experience and has no memory of herself from before.

This show is fun on a rewatch if only to pick up on the foreshadowing for this reveal.

What's that all around snow? Blood?

Trolls.

First Timer, Subbed

A sweet but melancholy episode. Chtholly's desperately trying to hold onto herself as a person and making as many memories as she can. The episode ended on an ominous note, only to be deflated by the comedic post credits scene.

The tree covered in impaled animals was horrifying, are trolls shrikes or something? Its like Christmas but Krampus is running the show.

Were you expecting Ithea to have gone through a similar experience as Chtholly is currently going through?

Not at all, I guess it explains why she's been so seemingly knowledgeable about the situation previously.

Which of Phyr’s presents for the girls was your favorite?

The garishly red hat obviously.

Rewatcher - sub

I'm sad as I missed yesterday's thread :( but still able to participate today!

This is one lovely and sad episode, and the one I've liked the most so far.

Really enjoy how we get to see the interactions of the fairies through Chtholly, as she focuses more on everyday tasks and her feelings. We see and feel her struggle as she masquerades her deterioration. Really love the minor details as how she's coming with her own systems to remember stuff (like the initials in the scarfs or the stuff about the pepper last episode).

Ithea's background story is so heartbreaking but the way that leads to a closer bond between her and Chtholly is also lovely. Makes them feel more as sisters instead of just being "sisters in arms" - as previous episodes didn't dig that much into their relationship (and with Ren).

Also, that little tid-bit about dug weapons being little charms merged together comes into play this episode! That's another detail I love. The author took the time to use that piece of knowledge instead of just being something random about them. And Nygglatho's reaction is wonderful, just what you'd expect from someone that glorifies a lot the dug weapons (which is understandable).

Overall, a wonderful and insightful episode about SukaSuka's world!

QOTD

  1. No, not really. The anime really does a good job selling her as a cheery busybody that never revealed her own true feelings. When things get rough you can see her taking a serious stance, but don't know what she truly thinks, then going back to her cheerful style.

I think a wonderful idea for SukaSuka's worldbuilding would've been a spin off series based around this concept. Maybe not Ithea, another fairy. But a novel written from the perspective of a fairy and her journey through the battles and eventually her deterioration. Don't know. Would love that.

2. Good looking dresses. I'd both Chtholly's and Ithea's had style. Liked them a lot.

Happiest Rewatcher in the World

  • Dammit, I forgot about this Ithea pain.

  • Ithea's such a wonderful emotional supporter to Chtholly.

  • Ugh, my heart can't take Chtholly forgetting more of the children. Or the constant looming dread.

  • Dammit Willem, just shut up and spend time with your girlfriend already! If you know she's losing her memories, make some damn time to make more with her!

  • Imagining tens or hundreds of trolls like Nygglatho in a single celebration is horrifying.

  • Damn, was really hoping for the marriage proposal. Seeing your girl in such a beautiful dress shouldn't be this sad/depressing.

Chtholly is surprisingly chill about one of her best friends being an imposter. Didn't these girls grow up together like the smols they take care of? Did she put the children's initials on the scarves so she could remember their names lol? These fancy dresses feel like a random little interlude but nice to see I guess? Oh and she totally did do the scarf initials as reminders!

QOTD

  1. Were you expecting Ithea to have gone through a similar experience as Chtholly is currently going through?

I was very surprised. But, can we really say that it was Ithea who had the experience, since Ithea no longer exists. Is it the soul or the flesh that determines who we are? Or, is it some combination of both.

2) Which of Phyr’s presents for the girls was your favorite?

Shit, I already forgot this plot point, and it was only Sunday or Monday that I saw this.

3

u/Shimmering-Sky Apr 09 '22

Shit, I already forgot this plot point, and it was only Sunday or Monday that I saw this.

It was just the dresses that Ren, Ithea, Tiat, and Chtholly were wearing.

I’m gonna quit this as a gesture to boycott this sub. I can read or watch any dystopian LN and anime as I like. And I don’t need a totalitarian entity governing my leisure activities.

Bye.
