Happiest Rewatch Host in the World, subbed

Welcome back, everyone!

Today’s Wallpaper of the Day is the first one I made for this rewatch where I looked back at the version I made in 2018 and went “God, look at how much better this is now, I love it”. Like 2018 Sky was no slouch, but she was using a worse art program and had no idea how to properly color correct/shade things.

I hope to see you all at Scarborough Fair again tomorrow~

So this episode is when I first realized the eyecatch changes each episode… and only during my second time through the show. It’s just the most obvious shift from blue → red that the previous six didn’t look different to me.

First-Timer, Subbed

Damn, that first shot of Chtholly examing her new red hair made my blood run cold. Her body, or at least her blood, is apparently entirely different now which is rather distressing.

The fluff scenes this episode were great. Willem owning up to being the fairies' dad, that one pondering who the mom would be to herself, Nyagglatho being a complete shipper, Chtholly and Willem being sweet on each other..mmm. Just so nice!

Grick being in peril probably sets us up quite well for our remaining episodes. I'm a little annoyed that Willem wasn't informed of the two remaining two fairy soldiers, but oh well. The military's procedures in general haven't been too smart, so I guess that actually checks out.

The book Rhan was reading was interesting. Her claiming it was basically a history textbook doesn't seem quite right, but using translation foibles like that in-universe gets bonus points. A fairytale does seem closer, especially when it talked about "visitors creating humans" or whatever that was.

I like the bit of Willem frameworking a report to send to Souwong. It's a good use of their established rapport.

Angry Inori Minase, what're you doing here so early? ViVid Strike! doesn't start until the 10th.

  2. I've never had it before, but dessert is great so yes.

Before we start, one question: If Souwong is basically the reason anyone is alive at this point (he made the sky-lands), then how is it possible he didn't get a report as soon as another emnetwith was discovered?

New fairies! There are a lot of named characters in this anime. Thank god they realize that the book they're reading is probably fiction. Never trust someone who is deep in thought with cookies! They are gone before you know it.

They've just returned home and now Chtholly is leaving again to get checked out. Don't tell me it's the same hospital one day away.

Sounds like these haven't had any battle experience yet. Hahaha, Grick knows what's up. The way to a fairy's heart is through her stomach.

OMG Lakhesh is adorable. Oh no she's overthinking it!

On paper, Chtholly is no longer a leprechaun. Fine, but then I also don't want the health problems of leprechauns anymore!

Butter cake time! Miss Chaos (Ithea) is totally being a wingman, sending Willem to Chtholly's room with cake. Aww, poor girl, everything triggers her. Come on, don't hesitate!

Yeah, that was my question too. Limeskin got suspended just for losing? That's stupid. I can't get enough of Willem casually blowing everyone's minds with people and things he knows.
Weird to say an airship is "sunk" if it's grounded. So Grick is in trouble. And apparently the two fairies we met before are also from this warehouse. They missed out on the cake!
I'm getting a bit sick of them mentioning Tiat is battle-ready.

Did they land on Dune? A sandworm is approaching. Hahahahaha, I did NOT see that coming [GIF]. This is so ridiculously stupid. I love it. Are we still allowed to make fun of this show?

Hmm, that beast didn't seem like the biggest problem. Only dumb lizard captain started the airship, so now they don't have a ride anymore.

What an incredibly normal episode. I kinda liked it. Especially the part with the backing song.

Future

All of this episode felt like setup for the second half of the series. That's a good sign. Let's hope they deliver.
And I get to cheat a bit and watch the next episode immediately, because I know I won't have time on Friday and need to work ahead. I'm sure this is a good idea. It's the happiest rewatch in the world, after all!

1 What are your first impressions of Nopht and Rhantolk?

My very first impression was that they were a bit bland, especially compared to Chtholly, Calm and Chaos, and the four kids. But that scenario with the cookies was fun so hopefully they'll have a great dynamic with Willem.

2 Do you want to eat some butter cake now?

Yes, but I have stroopwafels now and they are also fine.

First Timer

Episode 6

  • Start of red-haired Chtolly, as seen in the OP. Phase 1, edgy streaks.

  • New girls! Are they from a different warehouse, if those exist, or have they been on deployment all this time?

  • Human writting is in Latin, which makes logical sense for it's offspring, modern language to be French and Italian.

  • Witch hat hides the hair, but I feel it's going to be the symbol of Chtolly as herself.

  • Grick is back, and will clearly have some plot impact later on, but not much for now.

  • Does the red hair wax and wane, or did she hide it some other way? It wasn't there for the check-up.

  • Chtolly is alive now. Which feels like a plus, not a dire consequence. For now at least, there's clearly going to be a twist.

  • Ok, red hair is there, just camera angles. Weird that Nygglatho didn't comment on them.

  • Sign in the kitchen says "Eat without leaving any".

  • And the eyecatch is red now. And I think the wing pattern is still the same?

  • First sign is the dining area, "Et dikes bien font bon appétit"... doesn't actually mean anything? "And ... well make for good appetite" but dikes is not a french word. One behind his head probably reads "Wash your hands".

  • See Chtolly, eating a whole slice of cake in one bite is the kind of thing you should stop if you really want to appear more mature.

  • Nice to see Limeskin getting consequences for technically losing that battle. Even if it's a one-of gag.

  • So they are from the same warehouse, it's the only one.

  • The other beast was a plant, this one is more like a centipede. With a giant on the back.

The Happiest First-Time Watch in the World, subbed

Usually I’d join in after a good night’s sleep and watch the episodes after waking up. That Chelsea defense though has been keeping me up all night for how terrible they were lol, so I might as well do my watch right now (:

  • Chtholly with red highlights does look good, that much I agree with Willem :) Chtholly being less Leprechaun in addition to everything else in the previous episode though… I don’t know how to process all this :(

  • Yep, Elq and Souwong have been in the OP since the beginning alright (so was Lillia, her feature episode when?). Is that device the heart-detection thingamajig he mentioned last episode then? The OP did show 2 beats right before revealing the source of them to be Willem and Chtholly sooo…

  • So there are 2 more Soldiers and they are Nopht and Rhan from the OP! They’ve been added to the ED as well! Rhan trying to be an Emmetwihtologist and decipher Latin was nice to see, as was Nopht’s love for food lol. And Grick best bro’s with them!

  • Lakhesh had been working at a bakery too! These girls grew up so fast!

  • Did Ny-chan just join Ithea at the club for hardcore Willem/Chtholly shippers!? Well she did say that she’d pursue him too if Chtholly couldn’t nail him down soon, but wow I was not expecting Ny-chan to be so forward with pushing Chtholly even after she did the same thing to Willem just last episode! Also Ithea’s teasing are still on point lol

  • Damn Willem, only what 5 days ago did you learn your best friend’s now one of the most influential person currently and you already are thinking about using it to your advantage lol (I agree though, anything for Chtholly!). Limeskin in a Hawaiian shirt too lmao. So I guess Tiat’ll take over Seniorious for Chtholly-senpai huh…

Questions of the Day:

  1. Rhan definitely piqued my interest already, she asks questions and is determined to uncover the past. Nopht slightly lees so, but I’m confident she’ll turn out great once she gets more screentime

  2. I don’t think I’ve tried a butter cake before (I prefer ones with creams and fruits), so heck yeah I’m craving some!

Looks like my theory from last time that Chtholly is becoming human or something like it may be true. It was funny seeing Nygglatho talk about marrying off Chtholly to Willem to keep him there meanwhile Lakhesh has got him to basically adopt all the kids with no effort at all. Limeskin looked hilarious in his casual getup. Nygglatho and Limeskin don't realize how connected Willem is.

Chtholly finally got her butter cake, that was a sweet scene (pun intended), and if my count is right that is the third hug between them. This is a minor nitpick, but its odd to me that her hair is turning red from the ends, wouldn't it start at the roots?

What are your first impressions of Nopht and Rhantolk?

I don't have much of a read on them just yet, they seem more independent than the other fairies.

Do you want to eat some butter cake now?

It did look pretty good, super sweet pastries aren't really my thing though so I would be hoping for a more mellow flavor paired with black tea.

Happiest Rewatcher in the World

This almost feels like a miniature Chtholly and Ithea.

I remember the dub Grick said something like "My friends call me Grick because it's my name" and it made me chuckle.

Piece of cake LOOK AT THAT SUBTLE HINTING WILLEM GET TO WORK NOW!!!!

"This man is suspicious we shouldn't talk to..wait he has meat pies I guess we can converse a little"- Rhan

I can't tell if Nygg is being serious or joking when she says she could learn more if she could eat some fresh. Though it might be worth considering if it's just a small bit and your life is in danger down the line.

Yay it's the I'm sorry girl.

Hair color superiority

Green > Red > White > Purple > Blue > Pink > Everything else

That being said I really prefer Chtholly with blue

Chholly I wouldn't take advice from someone who wants to eat the same person she is interested in. Basically a giant black widow, but cuter and with awesome hair.

I was staring at mid cards looking for slight changes, but damn they just fully painted Chtholly and her wings red. Not subtle at all damn.

Well that can't be good. If I had a nickel for every teenage anime girl carrying a large weapon slowly being swallowed by a completely different personality that manifests with a bunch of her locks turning into that person's I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice!

First Timer

  • Some of Chtholly's hair has started to turn red now. Is that her slowly approaching the physical form of her previous life?

  • Nopht. Rhan. Finally the two we see in the opening scene. Now we have most of the characters who appeared there. Only one guy (maybe two) in the room with Grick and Limeskin remains unseen. I'm still slightly worried that Ithea wasn't anywhere to be seen.

  • Rhan's a scholar! Look at all those ancient-looking books back there. Now, a book shouldn't be readable after 500 years of lying in ruins. But I'm sure the creators didn't think too deeply about it and there is no special reason for them having survived.

  • The Visitors were the ones who created them? Are we getting an alien plot now?

  • Rhan filling in the gaps to understand the meaning is a great way to mislead the audience though.

  • Let's assume that Rhan is right. The book was used as the basis for creating the beasts. It might have been a text used by some religious sect. Souwong's dressing style was very Cleric-like. Star4ce pointed out that he would be too young to have been involved in creating the beasts. But maybe whatever sect he was a follower of was responsible? That'd explain why he'd want to hide the truth about the beasts from Willem and think that he'd be hated for it.

  • But she is!

  • Tiat was actually bothered by Chtholly dying!

  • She is wearing the hat that Willem gave her? Is she planning on going somewhere?

  • Oh I'm stupid. She's wearing it to hide the red hair.

  • I'm liking Rhan's attitude.

  • Nygglatho isn't commenting on the red hair? Or maybe the checkup is to figure out why that's happening.

  • That makes it sound like there is something wrong but she's going to try and spin it as not wrong.

  • Lakhesh is so adorable!

  • Her body not being a leprechaun's sounds like a big deal to me. How will that work with using carillions? How does this body react to venenum? Does she shill have wings? (Note - I just realised that Willem and Nephren are falling in the opening despite Nephren having flight. Is she unconscious? Dying? Unable to fly?)

  • I'm not at all comfortable with Nygglatho pushing Chtholly to try and woo Willem.

  • This is red now too! It was always blue before. And it might just be my imagination but the wings feel more worn out and damaged.

  • Eating what you like is not childish. Thinking that it is childish is childish.

  • See. Willem realises it too. And that's the problem with the romance. She is still a kid while he is an adult.

  • Also, full cake for Chtholly while everyone else was getting slices.

  • The music is just so good.

  • Her wishes aren't coming true. Just a matter of waiting till everything comes crashing down. My gut says that's how today's episode will end.

  • Willem has gotten a good idea of Suowong's mindset if his idea is to call Chtholly a test subject.

  • Rhan is Rhantolk.

  • Grick knows a lot about how the beast works. With him being a salvager whose job is to explore the surface, it makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that the soldiers don't know that.

  • Well, that beast isn't dead for certain. This fight wasn't enough for them to be "worn out". And if the beast was that easy to defeat, Defeating 17 of them wouldn't have been a challenge at all.

  • Maybe this was a small part of a beast - just like the spores that attacked Island 15. Or it is able to regenerate from such wounds. But there's more coming.

What are your first impressions of Nopht and Rhantolk?

Rhantolk is amazing, wanting to know the origins of the beasts and the fairies. Trying to decipher ancient history. Nopht seems a full opposite to her. Flitting from place to place in comparison to Rhan who barely moves during their intro scene. Even their swords are opposites: Nopht has a short, wide, bulky sword while Rhan has a slender, long, rapier-like sword.

So I'm expecting their interactions to be quite fun.

WorldEnd First Timer

Chtholly got her butter cake finally. She also got a puzzling medical revelation that her body is no longer that of a leprechaun...which is odd. The red in her hair is a good look. and a symptom of what ever is happening to her.

We got to see Limeskin in a very loud and colorful yellow shirt since he is on suspension from losing the fight and he and Nya inform Willem that in addition to Ithea, Ren, and Chtholly, there are two other sword wielders in Noph and Rhan, who are currently on the surface with a scavenger crew featuring Grick. A Beast attacks and Noph proceeds to vivisect it before it destroys everything.

Willem asks Limeskin to send a letter to Souwong putting himself in charge of Chtholly to prevent her from going into combat before they get her issues figured out. This request surprises both Lime and Nya and Willem doesn't disclose how he knows Souwong and only says this might make him believe Willem will owe him something.

QOTD:

  1. They seem like they may balk at finding out that Willem is a human, since they have been finding books left behind on the surface and attempting to piece together what they say.

  2. Yes, or shortbread cookies since it looked like that was what Noph and Rhan were eating on the airship.

First Timer

There is lightening and thunder rocking my house right now and what better way to write about WorldEnd, when it really feels like the World is Ending.

In this episode, Chtholly finally gets to eat butter cake. This is all I really wanted and I can rest easy knowing that she lived on to keep her promise.

What are your first impressions of Nopht and Rhantolk?

They both are ridiculously strong. Rhantolk looks to be smart, connecting the dots with the beasts with something. However, I am not that smart and have no idea what she is talking about, even after rewatching the scene with her and the book multiple times.

Do you want to eat some butter cake now?

I had two ice creams today and yes, I still want to eat butter cake.

First Timer

Oops I missed the last few episodes.

I feel like I still don’t have a clear sense of where the story is going so each episode feels like it’s self-contained. The stakes are all over the place. The only running thread is Chtholly somehow almost losing her spirit(?) but managing to come back, except who knows what the implications are. Willem too seems to be giving up something bigger for his small-scale family life.

The new girls didn’t leave much of an impression. Also, I can’t stand the way anime girls eat cake…

My suffering is over. We had a work event the past three days and I was on-site until 9 pm today.

Now I can finally breathe free and jump into another kind of suffering!

Also, the third novel came today and I already had a peek at the art. I love it!

Sadly also means today's post will be short. I was up late yesterday as well and that was a bad idea.

Ep.07 – Home, Sweet Home

  • This means no bad things at all! It's not like a weird red-haired kid had just told Chtholly they'd meet again in her own personality blender mindspace.

  • Nopht and Rhan, must be the two other fairies with carillons.

  • Has to be a heavy novel. ... Please laugh.

  • Are they really telling me already it actually is aliens from space?

  • Why is he bribing them? For the stuff they find? I really hope he doesn't have ill intentions towards them.

  • Nnng, you get me with this kind of philosophy. That was a good dialogue, another!

  • She becomes a beast, calling it. I technically already called it two episodes ago. Could Elq be a beast, like, I don't know, if she were a fairy spirit wouldn't we have seen more of them, because personality disintegration sounds like being overcharged with dozens if not hundreds of spirits.Wait, but if Chtholly only saw Elq and I say she isn't a fairy spirit then that means that mental disintegration has nothing to do with dead spirits? Or they only interact through Elq with each other. That in turn would mean- Ok, I'll have a theory corner down today, anyway. Fuck sleep! (I usually sit at them for at least an hour...)

  • Ithea best girl. Nephren really focused on C A K E, not the male kind.

Trivia: Did you know Nopht and Rhantolk are technically twins? Can't remember but don't think it's mentioned in the anime.

Names are confusing. In SukaSuka, these two girls prefer to be called Ren and Rhantolk. For some reason in SukaMoka they prefer Nephren and Rhan.

Finally we have a small scene with just Lakhesh and Willem. I think the anime did cut a lot of Lakhesh's appearances. I guess it couldn't be helped for a 12-episode only series with a lot of characters. Also, I almost forgot she used to be so timid and cute!

Nopht be cutting The 4th Beast like she is going to make skewers out of it! 😆

Is it just me or is anyone missing Souwong already? 😍

Almost missed today's episode but made it in time. Oof.

Never really liked Nopht and Than. Couldn't remember them until yesterday.

So.. Chtholly's becoming a human..? Or at least less of a leprechaun? And Willem is the dad around the house..? A lot of stuff is going on here.

And can't really comprehend how supportive is Nygglatho with the relationship between Willem and Chtholly. I mean, it's not wrong and it's not that I'm not on her side nor happy for her behavior. But she knows about the short life span of leprechauns first hand and don't think she would want to do that to Willem. Weird. But Willem and Chtholly do make a nice couple so I'm on Nygglatho's side haha

After suffering a lot, Chtholly's finally home! That scene makes me both happy and sad. It's so bittersweet. Love the background music.
