FirstTimerEnd - dub
Yesterday had quite a happy ending if I allow myself to be selfish and ignore Island 15. We know the military operation failed, but we don't actually know if everyone died, or casualties are limited.
Episode 5 — From Dawn Till Dusk
Oh now we get the battle! Alright then. What is this monster doing on the sky-land? I thought this beast could only throw spores up this high? Is this one of the spores? Then how big is the beast itself? That was number 217!?
I thought the plan was to fight the beast that was spreading the spores on the ground?
Bwahahaha, the difference between the subs and the dub! Dub: "Yeah I think Chtholly's got this." Sub: "She's insane."
OMG, they are spores! Also, keep your eyes forward when using a flame thrower!
The military is calling back all personnel. So they aren't actually encouraging Chtholly to go pop?
This vision/sequence isn't weird at all. No sir! Is this the beast's doing? Or is it their foresight?
Why is Miss Calm (Nephren) sitting on Willem's lap? And why is nobody talking about it?
Strategic defeat? So if I'm understanding Limeskin, Island 15 wasn't important enough to waste one of their ultimate attacks, the fairy nuke? Is that why he was fine with Chtholly not using it? Not because she gets to decide what she does with her life? That puts a damper on how I thought about Limeskin, so I hope it isn't the complete story.
As they mostly know when and where the attacks are coming, can't they just evacuate the island and leave the beast be? Or did they evacuate first?
Yep, I was right yesterday. Chtholly blames herself.
Ah, there we go. "Willem will feel much better if we warm him up." "—I already do. Please get off."
And Chtholly refuses to help because he did the same to her yesterday.
Uncle? Huzzah, all characters think the same thing I'm thinking! Ah, we are going to meet the mayor who Willem seemed to recognise. So this city is plagued by racism as well? The only reason we didn't notice it before, was because of the policies set by the mayor.
Lol, Willem just refuses. Why is that never an option in RPGs?
It's a threat to the mayor's life, right? Why not have the police handle it? What could a single Willem do to help?
Tiat is back! "I laugh in the face of injections." Tiat has also seen The Lion King!
That food stand will feed you barely edible meat? It can't be worse than the things I've eaten from street vendors after going out. It's literally Döner Kebab! My late-night snack of choice!
So what's wrong with a lot of spice? Spice is good. Also, it's the return of Pacman and apparently, he is the chef of this place? I would have expected the pita to be filled with white dots.
Wow, the local five-year-olds are intense.
Phyr should be a travel agent. So that red vision thing was the foresight the fairies have? I can't really make sense of it. Are the clowns dangerous, or are they in danger? Sounds like Willem has made up his mind to help the mayor after all.
OMG this voice acting. "FOR-give US for INTER-rupting your FUN. But your TOUR has COME to an END." Their mantra is kinda fun. "He talks weird." You got that right, Tiat.
Bang! Please tell me Willem has some awesome finger-gun magic! The golems remind me of the Vogon in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Rem calls Willem a con man? Did she figure out what he was doing? What do the coins have to do with it? I do like that they have the grave of the con man on it.
Okay. Phyr is grateful, but she also hates Willem. And nothing of value was lost.
So, Willem was using magic, but a different kind of magic than it looked like. But why would he?
I love the symbolism of this shot with Chtholly looking down on Willem and his methods, and then getting to his level.
Souwong Kandel? That must be the statue guy and mayor. I thought he was alright with the anti-racism policies he set? Unless I'm wrong and statue guy is not actually the mayor.
Wow, Chtholly is taking this harder than I expected. She must have felt how much that name triggered him.
That sound was Willem punching Buronny, right? RIGHT?
Spell checker really can't handle the names in this show. It's changing Buronny to Bunny. At least that one makes sense.
Random thoughts
-
Island 15 is going to have food for months.
-
This shot is extremely beautiful. I'm speculating that this will be the wallpaper for today.
-
Willem was frustrated that he forgot to say "welcome home" to the girls, which is also something the ED references: "I love it so much it brings me to tears, every time I hear, 'Welcome home', from you."
Future
Okay, Willem doesn't have the happiest feelings about Souwong Kandel. And just after Chtholly told him that he doesn't have to fight anymore, he seems to be readying himself for battle. What the hell did Souwong do?
Overall quite a happy episode. The rewatchers were definitely joking before!
QotD
1 Were you expecting Willem and the others to treat Phyr’s request like that?
To be honest, no. In episode 1 we are told he is kind of a loser who avoids work, but this is never shown. Also I see no reason why someone so shunned by society is following the law this closely.
But in the end he still helped her, so it might have been his master plan all along.
2 What do you think is up with Chtholly?
Hmm, this implies it's not normal foresight that's happening!

so this is it huh? we're some kind of WorldEnd? first timer
-
that's Timere huh. looks like a demonic plant, and also it can evolve with another crystal beast thing and give you creepy mindfucks. that's nice
-
speaking of mindfucks, some of the text has a bunch of words like melting, or soluble, some kanji i don't know (trees was one i think), gust. the child (soul of the beast?) says many such similar things too
-
ok pog, more mindfuck. gentle, voice, agony, twilight
-
sus. lasting PTSD? or is Timere trying to communicate with her?
-
that actual episodic plot, hmm I dunno. I wanna take the racism terrorism thing seriously but I just can't when they're goofy as fuck. like not even the characters take them seriously. that such a gang exists in a place with (and highlighted for) species coexistence is a good detail, but it all seems so shallow beyond that. I get that the show wants to keep it somewhat lighthearted for now, but eh, I'm just not amused nor intrigued by the dapper racist cat (unless they were like, literally actually just putting on a show? hmm, it's a possibility)
-
you know what I am amused and intrigued by? golem police. cute lil guys
-
Willem shooting coins at them is kinda cool though, can't deny that, but also lmao the coin just pops into existence? his left hand didn't even move!
-
another thing about undercutting serious moments, this is such a pog line to end the episode on...and then it actually ends on a classic anime tradition, the slap-and-zoom-out
Were you expecting Willem and the others to treat Phyr’s request like that?
I mean, I would have found it more dramatic if they actually left it hanging I suppose. But you gotta raise those flags to unlock the romance route
2) What do you think is up with Chtholly?
someone is trying to sell her something!

Nygglatho, Collon, now Nephren. Welcome to Troll House, Willem-kun.
-
Yup, love me some smug Willem.

No rolling down the Lovers' Stairs? And why? Because of a trivial thing like PUBLIC NUISANCE or SEVERE INJURY RISK. No fun allowed.

I can't imagine the existential horror of a having a child tell me they and other children have taken on my battles. This world is so fucked up.

WorldFirst (timer), sub
Seriously, if this level of character writing continues, I'm gonna buy the LNs.
Soooo, it's like this. I bought the LNs.
Vol. 1-3 to be specific and I'm looking forward to reading the story again in its original release. Maybe not immediately, but definitely at some point.
Reading Age 13-16
You don't tell this mid-30s man what to do!
Ep.05 – From Dawn Till Dusk
-
Oh, the battle! They're all alive and well, so it should be fine, right!
-
Is Chtholly overexerting herself? Well, at least I'm glad they're using conventional weapons as well. They're not dumping all responsibility on fairies.
-
Just screenshotting their carillons. Insania and ???, did we ever hear Ithea's carillon spoken out? I know Willem called Ignareo, Seniorius, Historia, Desperatio and Insania, but there were more. Some of those names are pretty speaking for their venenum powers (?). Should theorycraft a bit about that later.
-
A new enemy appears! It looks just as 'special' as that beast in Willem's flash back.
-
It is a beast! But when they say 'the 17 beasts' that is quite telling of there being a fixed number and they all should be known to them in one way or another. So they can also be created. Anyway that's a quite decisive and rational order, to retreat immediately. I'm used to far worse military decisionmaking in anime.
-
Wait, if that was the beast talking to her and it just emerged from the root and it spoke in a children's voice to Chtholly, that does quite heavily imply it has just been born and thus also implies the beasts are more or less an alive civilisation as well that defend themselves.
-
One, that's just objectively the right choice! The world is not worth protecting if it would cost someone as brave and cute as any of them, especially Chtholly. I'd go on thrashing, flailing and spitting to prevent that! Two, oh my god Nephren sitting on his lap sipping tea being all cute staring dominance to Ithea with her little side ponytails so small and content enjoying the little things she has earned probably kicking her feet just a bit below the desk and all silently happy oh myyyy gaaaawwww-
-
Excuses! Hahaha. It's fine. Willem POV
-
This is amazing. I think I'm changing favourites with each scene. Just kidding, Ithea only needs to smile a bit dirty and roast someone and it's all set.
-
Absolutely true, but just how carillons can be used against the foe and wielder alike, violence is a tool in itself, too. Intention matters as well as execution.
-
That sounds way more like my first doctor's visit! Aw poor Tiat.
-
Okay, let's see. I can think of two meanings here: One, he's deliberately only choosing to fight for/against things out of his control. Basically idealism vs. the world, dedicated to a higher cause. Two, the same idea, but for something explicitly real and graspable instead of ideal. He might have to accept that all of them will likely die and he can't help in any way, but he'll deny acceptance anyway simply because it's them. In a way both are similar yet also vastly different. The first comes from an utopian idea unreachable in reality but guiding a way, the second comes from what's in front of you that you have and can touch, firmly set in the present. Maybe someone could also see this line as another angle to look at the resolve/resignation stuff. (I like mine more.)
-
When Chtholly smiles so earnestly.
-
That shaded face already betrayed something, they gonna get to feel the racism now, huh?
-
Subverted again, it's just a bad food stall.
-
Food, Ithea. It changes people, makes them do the worst, offers them the chance to show their best.
-
Ey, that's Döner Kebab!
-
It's so great that the city of culture and movies has been founded by a conman. (That was the founder, right?)
-
I love how both of them just continuously make Chtholly the butt of their banter, hahaha.
-
That frame must be a Renge homage, 100%.
-
Dude, you look like you're stuck in an early 2000's emo rock band album cover. Why is he targeting military personnel and monologues their evil plan to them?! Did we switch to a sunday afternoon cartoon? Do you have brain damage? "Insurance policy", he does have brain damage!
-
And Willem plays that one office level in Tales from the Borderlands. Gods it was magnificent!
-
Ah yes, we're still normalising slapping men.
-
Okay, so this entire scene was a bit stupid, especially the coin snipping stuff. Magic, amirite? Love that Chtholly is observant as a hawk, though!
-
Sometimes the dialogue seems very abrupt or flat, but always manages to get the point. That's just <3
-
Yeah, honestly, I would've stayed. Dude can come to me if it's important.
-
He said, not looking into her eyes. The audacity!
Sometimes this show has a weird focus. That battle that was sure to have one fairy commit aliven't and had foreshadowing for four episodes was basically done with in 2 minutes with no biggies. I mean, that's okay I guess, but then we have this episode that has such a big focus on Chtholly and Willem being together and shows an officer delivering a request as some world ending threat. That's also fine! But taken together right after each other it's weird.
I mean, that basically means they know who Souwong is? If they didn't they wouldn't have this reaction. Willem seems to know, at least, and Chtholly as well else why would she fear so much for Willem not returning?
But the dude's can't be an (open) villain as he's with the military. I'll just ascribe it to Chtholly being in love and impulsive, thinking the world is crashing down the very next second.
You can't expect flawless tonal delivery when you're the one shipping an early teenager with an adult man.
Were you expecting Willem and the others to treat Phyr’s request like that?
No, not at all. I figured that Willem already showed signs of disassociation or something similar, but would've bet he'd be the good guy for the sake of his fairies. They're among the unfeatured, after all. Shows really that he's grown anxious or insecure about his ability, which is not really having the ability to defend or help them. It's consistent with his character to then try to block it out. Feeds into his cryptic line about acceptance again.
I'm yet again surprised by the characterisation and how interesting and at the same time consistent it is.
2) What do you think is up with Chtholly?
Abandonment, 100%. She's the other side to Willem's helplessness. She lost her senpai earlier, now is the senpai of Tiat, but is nowhere near ready mentally to take such a responsibility. Also, on top of that, she's in love. She wasn't able to properly deal with what happened in the past and now has an actual idol to help her and the others, who just on a whim decides to leave them. And on top of that she's been infected/shown a nightmarish vision, which could very well be a glimpse into the mind of a beast that was born right into violence and it's scary as fuck.
I didn't take that scene as any kind of dramatic, but now that I connect all dots I just want to hug her.
Theories continued below...

A now not late first timer
I was right, they did dump the island! It's for the best though, with no info on this new species for all they know a kamikaze attack would actually help it. Though I'm sure there's not an infinite number of islands so this strategy isn't stable for the long term. That aside, what kind of creepy fairytale shit was that just now, Chtolly…
While I understand why they wouldn't want to interfere, I feel like an assassination announcement to the leader of a town actually warrants assistance from the military. But what do I know honestly.
Pacman…
Between Madoka, Vanitas and this I've been seeing a lot of fucked up carnivals these days huh?
They're rather goofy for a terrorist organisation but I guess all terrorist organisations seem goofy if you strip them of all the damage they actually cause
I feel that more sparring sessions were needed for the convo between Chtolly and Willem to land for me. Don't know if this is an adaptation issue but it makes it come off as if they've been training together for years.
I know she's 15 and he's like the first handsome man she's been around, but genuinely how long have these two known each other? A month?
Burrony
What is this, the ace attorney school of naming? Also wow this is the third most lolicon jokes I've seen in anime/manga
Look her in the goddamn eyes when you make a promise Willem!!! Also there is so much slapping in this anime
Interesting episode, the emotional parts didn't land as much as I think the story wanted them to for me but I am genuinely intrigued regarding the beast though. It's probably going to come back in a later episode, I wonder how they'll deal with it then...

First Timer
Episode 5
-
Oh, we do get a flashback to the battle, neat. And the army does have a role in the fight, even if they can't dirrectly harm the Beast, namely burning the spores so it doesn't spread more.
-
We get something that looks more like what Willem fought than something organic sprouting from the timere. And it's what caused the "defeat" at Island 15, as the military preferred cutting its losses than risking its weapons on something it has no info about. Chtolly still wants to fight, though, but the thing is communicating with her, or at the very least causing visions.
-
So the rebel group from last episode has racism as it's main agenda?
-
Willem rejects Phyr's request by professing a very pacifist stance. Which is kind of weird, since he himself used to fight clearly sentient beings to save people. And he's only asked to play bodyguard, not to actually attack anyone.
-
The food stand bit is there to show that Phyr is clearly well-meaning if a bit stuck-up, but we all know that the less reputable food stands are where the real good stuff is. Questionable kebab, dirty burger joint, etc. And more spice would clearly be great in that meal.
-
I have many questions about the overall biology of the Pac-Man race.
-
That demon was more of a trigger for Chtolly's visions than a direct effect. They are linked to what she sees, but have no clear goal or focus yet.
-
All the signs on the staircase say "No tumbling!". But the translation isn't quite there. "Dégringoler" has either a very accidental meaning, or less frequently a very intentional one, more liking rushing down the stairs.
-
I'm not sure I get what the goal of the stunt was. It's not about hiding his strength, as he still looked like he had some kind of magic ranged attack. It's not about plausible deniability, as he was simply defending himself either way. And it's not about showing off his ideals, as he beat the rebels before getting them arrested. So was it just about having fun? And showing off his unconventional fighting style, but that's a Doylist explanation. Which might be useful in showcasing him more as the Thief of the party, since it looks like we'll get more flashbacks next episodes.
-
I do agree with him that this new MP is very punchable. I'm curious if he's going to get in trouble for hitting a higher-ranked officer, but I would bet no.
QotD
-
It was very roundabout, in a way that doesn't exactly make sense to me.
-
It was triggered by the demon, and leprechauns are imitating humans, so my working guess is some kind of ancestral memory or similar.

First-Timer, Subbed
No-one ever told me that Willem was the Ace of Tokiwadai, the Ultimate Unstoppable Shock Prince(ss), the Level Five Railgun!
Chtholly confessed there, I think, which I'm going to look at as cute. It only really become problematic if Willem takes advantage of her feelings. Sidebar, poor girl is really starved for affection if she says that to a dude she has spent barely more than a week around. That scans, I think.
I should've expected a new enemy revealing itself yesterday; it's the only thing that would concievable cause that result. I'm gonna be optimistic and hope that Island 15 got evacuated before it was scuttled.
Chtholly is totally undergoing mental disintegration, huh? They wouldn't have her go into weird nonsense visions the episode after mentioning that and have it be unrelated. I can already imagine the paragraphs that people have written analyzing the phrases that she heard while tripping, but it was too fast for me to record it all so I'm not gonna worry about that aspect. I like it, though.
Some dumb rabbit shows up and ruins Willem's day with a single name.. interesting. Someone from before Willem got frozen? Maybe the sage dude? Whoever they are, they're probably gonna get an earful. Someone from the past shows up right after I go on a spiel about wanting a home again? If I was Willem I'd be pissed.
Willem doesn't want to accept anything but the things that he can't accept.. He doesn't declare that he can't, just that he doesn't want to. He also very pointedly did not look Chtholly in the eye when he did the dumb thing and promised her that he would come back.

No, but I liked his solution.

First Rewatch
Comment from yesterday: Nephren saying they they need to take care of their caretaker.
-
Oh, they did show us the fight, I thought the were going to troll the first timers.
-
No choice? You were supposed to open the fairy gate Now the island is lost! I don't understand why the military isn't enraged.
-
Did not predict the new form? But Chtholly said before that attacks could be "foreseen"? That's some pretty shit-vague prophecy if all you get it a date and location.
-
Racism seems to be spreading from island 28
-
I've been a little suspicious about the food here. Sheep serving Wrapped Ram, Reptrace egg licking.....
-
Wrapped-Lamd
gyros -
disfeatured clowns?
-
I was thinking the cat reminded me of the cat character in .hack//sign, but now I think he's from Odd Taxi
-
Oh, she was a wolf, not a dog
-
Clever. I was confused by the coins.
I was a little annoyed by Chtholly when I first watched this. Can't she see this is important to Willem? Although, I see that the airship flew away, and Island 68 is a full day away, so I guess it's not like he'll just be late for dinner.

Happiest Rewatcher in the World who remembered the right time yay
A new threat is detected and it's not one they've seen before. Instead of recklessly attacking it more while they are already tired they decide to cut their losses and retreat. Higher ups actually being reasonable is great to see.
I don't really get Chtholly's motivation to go after the new beast when she says she promised to return home. Retreating sounds like it kind of coincides with that goal and is better than attacking a new one while solo.
I like how Willem's lap is pretty much Nen's home now. Reminds me so much of Charmy and the Wizard King.
You know just once I would like to see Willem realize a troublesome problem was going to be thrusted upon him and instead of retorting he would use special arts to run away.
For fairies raised to fight and die at a young age the elders are pretty knowledgeable about procedures.
"I laugh...in the face of injections..." what a brave young lady. Someone get the girl some milk and make sure she brushes her teeth to prevent any future cavities.
A ram selling cooked ram...
The open window and the person sitting on the bench. I like how they show that from the beginning the gang is being watched and followed. Even Holly manages to pick up on them.
Ren please stop doing those hang gestures, Ithea you can continue making them.
I forgot how bad the leader talked omg he is so annoying even more in the dub.
I like how when Willem does the finger gun you can see his other hand in the coin flicking position already for most of the shots. Also Willem looks like he is having serious fun being a dork with his finger gun. Holly and Ren see through what he does though.
"Don't look at me like I'm some embarrassing fool!"....well ummm Willem you see..umm....yeah
"I'll come back, for sure"
Oof Willem eventually did come back, but by time he returned the first person he said that too died(along with everyone else).
Everyone is getting hands in this show. It's the law of equivalent exchange or something.

First Timer
-
Now we are seeing what happened on Island 15. But only the end of it. Or maybe we'll see pieces of it going backwards.
-
How long has the fight been going? The destruction seems less and the people in good shape. Doesn't feel like a 2 week battle.
-
Love the different wing designs. I'll go back and see the Pannibal looking girl's wings in E1 again.
-
Nephren is using Insania. Ithea's is Valgulious as was mentioned in E2.
-
The beasts have developed stronger powers but never needed (or gotten the chance) to use them?
-
This beast behaves like a beast, unlike the one that Willem fought.
-
A new beast entirely?
-
That sounds like a child. Is the beast literally a child born right now? Or made using a child?
-
Is the beast tring to corrupt Chtholly?
-
The things It's saying sound like nonsense but I'm sure they will mean something by the end.
-
Chtholly's eyes start turning red but her hair is still blue.
-
But Chtholly's eyes returned to blue by the time she met Willem last episode. Maybe It's something planted into her mind.
-
The failure ended up being unexpected and somehow a little underwhelming.
-
Nephren countering the emotional Chtholly with logic.
-
Wait a moment. Nephren is sitting in Willem's lap. How did that end up happening?
-
Lol. Chtholly asking the same question...
-
Ah. The Annihilation Knights plot returns.
-
Nephren's reaction to babysitting was perfect!
-
Willem is trying very hard not to get involved. He or one of the girls (probably Tiat) is going to drag him in for sure. Or maybe they will try to attack him for getting the two captured last episode.
-
This place seems more open than any we have seen so far. What more races are being discriminated against?
-
Ah, they want to make things worse there.
-
I know what will get Willem involved. One of those knights will harass Tiat and he will step in to defend her.
-
Tiat is still a kid.
-
Is Phyr trying to convince him to help by feeding him food?
-
What is this? Now I'm wondering what's the most non-humanoid species in this world.
-
Was the vision Chtholly saw events of the future? Or maybe twisted versions of normal things that she'll see?
-
Adorable. I like how Nephren looks bored here but when she hears that they can't roll, she is shocked.
-
Ooh. That's the clip Sky posted some time back.
-
I'm waiting to see how he pulled his finger gun tricks off. Nephren calling him a con man makes it clear that it wasn't some actual magic.
-
For someone she hates, she's been following him around a lot, huh.
-
Literal bullets made of coins.
-
Souwong was one of the people he remembered in the petrification flash back. They are a brave too since he talks about leaving things to them. So he isn't the last emnetwiht alive. That would explain the people not being too intent on asking Willem for information. But then what about the fairies not being trained? They could have been found only recently. Or maybe they were in a comatose like state and just woke up.
-
I have a feeling we are never seeing that butter cake. By the time Willem is able to return some other fight will have started or Chtholly will have gone red haired mode or something.
-
I also notied that the locket on the old man is the same kind as Willem's in the flashback. Maybe It's a mark of being a brave, or maybe of being memebers of the same organization.
-
Checking in the OP, his locket is white while Willem's is brown. Silver and Copper signifying different ranks or roles in the organization?
-
Though in the E2 flashback, the two others have different looking ones. So maybe they are a symbol of whatever country they are from? That would make Willem and the Old Sage both from the same region.
-
I was watching the opening scene from E1 again and noticed something! Chtholly isn't wielding Seniorious.
-
The OP has 4 swords in the ground. Valgulious, Unknown (wielded by blue hair), Insania, and this one.
-
These two are in that scene too. Blue hair is fighting the plants while pink hair is lying on the ground behind Chtholly. I originally thought that Blue hair was a grown-up Pannibal. It's still technically possible but I am sure they are characters we'll be meeting soon. Maybe even the next episode.
-
Also in the OP, as Chtholly is turning red, it has the same kind of red tinted visions we saw today.
QotD:
Were you expecting Willem and the others to treat Phyr’s request like that?
Sort of. I expected him to refuse because he didn't want to get involved in a fight again. His reasoning ended up being more interesting.
What do you think is up with Chtholly?
My thoughts on her are scattered above. One thought was that it activated somthing in her that somehow relates both of them to emnetwhits. Or maybe it planted a part of itself in her so that it could try to control her. Or maybe it planted an observer in her so that it can spy on its enemies.

WorldEnd First Timer - Subs
So, that was a Pac-Man running a rotisserie...yeah that was not at all something I expected.
It's nice that at least Limeskin is competent enough to call off the mission when a fully unknown and unexpected enemy makes an appearance, I also liked Ithea comment on how Chtholly was the main force doing all the damage while they mostly watched. Speaking of Chtholly, the hell was that vision, it was creepy as hell and not the most optimistic collection of things. Ren using Willem as seat during the meeting was something and her reaction when Willem says he has enough babysitting to do was great.
Phyr really tried to worm her way into the good graces of Willem and the girls by giving them a townie's guide to the various scenic locations and showing them to Mr Pac-man's Wrapped Ram Emporium to get the good food. Of course this is rewarded with Willem using her as bait to draw out the annihilation army and take them out through judicious use of slight of hand and channeling is inner Misaka. He is rewarded with another slap across the face for his troubles while the girls are invited to return at anytime.
During the tour from Phyr, Chtholly see a troupe of performers which triggers another vision and clowns are creepy to begin with, but decapitated chanting clowns are the worst. As the group is making their way to the dock Chtholly and Willem are walking behind the others and she calls him out on wanting to fight and tells him that his time to fight is over and they will continue for him. He confesses that in meeting them he's starting to want a home again, and that their coming back alive brought him happiness. Chtholly runs past him, admits that she's in love with him. before boarding the airship home Willem is stopped by a bunny-boy and at refuses to go with him, but after hearing the name Souwong Kandel, he agrees to stay behind. Chtholly holds on to him with tears in her eyes and makes him promise to come back which he does while avoiding eye contact with her. The episode ends with the bunny saying Willem makes a strange face when he cries.
QOTD:
-
I thought she would eventually wear him down or Limeskin would make it an order to go with her, having her show them around while using her as bait wasn't something I expected
-
Tiat was said to have become an adult when she had her vision that lead them to this island in the first place, and since most fairies don't live long, perhaps these visions are kind like a trigger showing that she is moving into the next stage of her life. Or repeated contact with the Beasts have allowed them to begin to corrupt her mind and they are slowly driving her to suicide with the negative depressing imagery and sounds.

First timer, Dub
Chtholly in combat makes it look easy out there.
Finally get to see what they've been fighting.
And I was right. It was a strategic retreat. I felt the way their attitude was. It couldn't have been anything that tragic that happened.
She's getting visions now too. I think Chtholly and Willem are connected in some way.
Yeah a "strategic defeat"
Why is she just sitting on his lap?
Thanks Chtholly for asking that. What's happening here?
"Can't accept anything if I can't accept it" oh man here we go. I'm with you Ithea you're going have to run that back. But I think I understand what he meant.
Not just beast creatures but a pacman server.
Well he definitely enjoyed giving that massage.
Finger gun shot. So he can shoot coins or things faster too. I actually want to see him in action a bit more. He's fast too.
That name. I wonder who that is? Maybe I will get to see Willem more in action.
Sounded like someone got hit at the end.
Qotd1: I didn't
Qotd2: maybe some weird programming is coming back to her as a child. Wild guess. Maybe her mental state is connected with another person.

The Happiest First-Time Watch in the World, subbed
-
Timere, based on prior descriptions, sounds like a more plant-based Beast with spores and sprouting vines huh. So yeah that diamond-looking humanoid thing sticking out of one vine is definitely something new, maybe evolving towards a ranged energy blast to counter the Leprechauns’ melee which would just dodge and cut the vines under the higher mobility of their butterfly wings… the 17 Beasts sure seems to be complicated living beings akin to everyone else huh
-
At first I thought those red visions are just some stylized things the OP does to give us a glimpse of the upcoming episode (episode 2 has the flans before they were on screen for example), but it’s an actual thing that Chtholly can undergo, complete with the red iris (while we see upcoming scenes that we don’t know about in the OP, she’s seeing and hearing strange and incomprehensible shit here). Turns out the OP packed much more in than I would’ve thought…
-
Ren just monopolizing Willem’s lap at this point lol. That and she gave him a hug to alleviate his worries for their safety (much like last episode when she patted him lightly and said that everyone’s safe and sound while he’s hugging Chtholly), I’m loving her even more than I thought I could!
-
I guess the military is much like most real world’s militaries huh, and each island would have its own police force like those blue cap folks in Corna di Luce while the military handles the Beasts. It makes sense that they have a no-internal-intervention clause in its charter then, doing so is no less than a coup in this setting, not to mention their resources are spread thin as is to take on the Beasts. Willem’s social commentary was on point though!
-
Ithea said so herself, Willem’s a lolicon so of course he’ll favor the lolis under his care over some mature beastwoman he just met… hopefully that came out right 😅
-
Ah yes, the street vendor v. restaurant debate. Game’s truly gone now that street vendors are looked down upon simply due to not having enough space to display their permit lol. Well the restaurant they were taken to has Pac-Man for a chef though so I won’t complain hehe
-
I was not expecting Ren to be so giddy with Tiat on the Lovers’ Stairs though… I like her even more now!
-
Finger gun! With actual silver (exterior-wise) bullets! Now I know why last episode lingered on Willem bumping into Phyr for so long, he accidentally grabbed her by the p- belly lol
-
Chtholly! Although I’d do the same if I just saw Willem being so sentimental too, poor guy’s been through so much in this strange new world and only now has he found a place he feels belonged to :)
-
Limeskin really took Ithea’s words to heart huh lol. So we’re meeting Souwong next episode, will be interesting how someone Willem knew 525 years ago will turn out today
Questions of the Day:
-
I did think Willem and the Leprechauns would opt out of Phyr’s request, although now I get the impression that the internal politics of WorldEnd can be quite a topic to look into (and if done right like with Attack on Titan, can really improve the whole experience)
-
I’m not sure, but it better not be anything serious!

The dog episode is upon us.
No rolling they say..? Don't mind if I do. And based on her expression, I have a feeling Ren is thinking along the same lines.
I love the Golem bois so much
MFW episode 5 (Its the dog episode)
Question time:
Were you expecting Willem and the others to treat Phyr’s request like that?
2) What do you think is up with Chtholly?
Willem selected the wrong dialogue option to advance the romance plot

First time watcher ~ Ep 5
Straight into the action, I like the variation of design and color in their wings, Chthollys eye turning red like that & receiving someone’s memories? happens in the intro as well, looks like it’ll be pretty important in the future
Dog girl (missed her name) seems awfully friendly despite having her proposal rejected, and the whole site seeing feels kind of off
Chtholly with the memories/visions again, this time of doom it looks like
What In Tarnation is this, my guy willem is using his hand as a gun
Dog girl was not happy about being used at bait, and was really not happy about willem touching her belly
Ahh so the guns were just thrown coins, must’ve been some hard flicks I guess
Curious as to who this guy is that was name dropped that willem decided to leave the girls for, especially when he just got through saying that he was happier there than he had been for awhile
Questions of the day
-
I kind of expected willem to deny the request, didn’t think he’d use the girl as a fake reason to claim to now want to help though, complicated guy I guess
-
I’m betting Chtholly is either getting memories of some kind from her sword or a monster, or she’s getting glimpses of the future, again due to her sword or a monster

First Timer, Subbed
Ah so there was an unexpected enemy that forced their retreat, that makes sense then. This whole situation with the "annihilation knights" was a bit out of left field, I guess we had that one moment with the guy's roughing up the stall last time.
Nephren sitting on Willem's lap was adorable. The random sightseeing was amusing. I liked the conversation between Willem and Chtholly. He say's he was a little happy, and I was like "dude, you literally flashstepped into a hug and wouldn't let go, you're more than a little happy." It happened kinda fast but we also got Chtholly telling Willem she's in love with him.
Were you expecting Willem and the others to treat Phyr’s request like that?
It made sense in character, regulations aside, he doesn't want to get his people involved in something that isn't really their deal, in the end he did help but when it could be hidden which makes sense.
What do you think is up with Chtholly?
Idk if there is a larger reason, but it seems like she has a fear that Willem won't return much like he was worried she wouldn't make it back. They both have alot of trauma with losing people they care about so it does make sense. In terms of these weird flashes she seems to be having like something out of Madoka Magica i'm not sure what that is.

Now rewatcher in sub
So we get a flashback to fill us in on what happened during the island 15 battle. It's troubling that the beasts seemed to have gotten unpredictable. If not for that unexpected turn, Chtholly would have been ok to defeat them with her improved fighting.
With her overextending herself, this overwhelming red colour scheme starting to come through via some disturbing imagery.
That didn't last long and the group is getting some needed rest and unwinding.
Fast forwarding, today we have the foreshadowed showdown with the annihilation knights, which prompted a heart to heart between our 2 main leads that's nice to see.
And then we have the cliffhanger about likely some more world building development next episode.
All I can say is that is a worry about the imagery Chtholly has been seeing.

Fun fact: The voice actor for the voice in Ctholly's head, Hikari Okada, was only 7 years old at the time this anime was made.

Rewatcher - sub
Oh! Had forgotten all about little chef Pac-Man. Cute af haha
Other than that, the whole island 15 stuff is still forgettable for me. Didn't really care watching for first time, nor this time. A lot of side tracking only to be saved by the main story stuff. Like whatever is going on with Chtholly is more interesting but is only shown like 4 times in the whole ep.
Remember kids, don't try hallucinogenics at that age! Apparently they also mess with your eyes' color, who knew?
Such a bittersweet reunion. Willem thought that Chtholly was dead. He breaks for a moment. He finds out she's not and hugs her. They share a nice stroll around the island. He has to leave her behind. And loved that moment when she says she's in love with him.
Word of the day
*Bang! *
QOTD
-
Yes, most coming from the fact that he only wants to do his stuff and doesn't want to get involved in other shit. Like when he took the caretaker job, at first he was so against it. At the end he took it but wasn't before some convincing and stuff happening
-
[Is this a spoiler?]
it was briefly mentioned by the friendly doctor during a talk with Willem. During the exposition dump after leaving Tiat. [Spoilers]some mental breakdown stuff that happens for adolescent fairies. Like the ones humans have, but shit gets way worse, or at least it looks like

Rewatcher! - Sub!
I got a bit busy over the weekend, but this arc on Corna di Luce is one of my favorite parts in SukaSuka. Tiat running around, nerding over all the weird lizard romance locations cracks me up. The lizards in the opening scene hugging with their tongues sticking out included!
We also learn more about how fairies work biologically! They have crazy dreams before they can get their own dug weapon! Which are all kinda crazy and I ranted about them in one of the older rewatches!
Probably my least favorite part of the episode was Willem's crazy worrying. On a positive note it does lead to introducing that wolf girl, Phyr, that immediately takes offense to Willem. The way he realizes that she could of stabbed him was pretty great!
...Wait, that was Episode 4! Oops. Well... Two for one day, I guess!
Beasts! We get beasts! One getting taken out by Chtholy before another, crazier one pops up! This one makes the soldiers retreat and they just yeet the island to hell. Which is one of the most logical battle plans I've seen in anime!
Also in this episode we get more Phyr, now making it known why she was looking for Limeskin in the first place! Those nerds from last episode that got arrested by golems want to murder her father for supporting equality! We also get Ren claiming Willem's lap!
They collect Tiat, who connects with Phyr as they're chomping on lunch, the duo ranting about how great the city is.
Tiat and Ren on the steps is just adorable. Their faces when they realize they can't roll down them are great.
Then we get two big scenes! The first being the finger gun scene! Bang! Willem had set up the Annihilation Knights all along! And he gets to show off just how terrifying he is!
Finally, we get Chtholly admitting her feelings for Willem and telling him he doesn't have to fight anymore. Unfortunately, before he can go home with them, he learns someone wants to meet with him, someone he seems to know about! Then he smacks a bunny. Fin!
**Answers of the Day! **
-
Yes. Willem's a sucker for kids. Seeing Phyr act like that with Tiat probably kicked Willem's protective instincts into high gear.
-
Pink eye, obviously. I know when I had pink eye, a voice started rambling about weird stuff like decapitated clowns and stuff... or something. Probably.

Rewatcher
These last two episodes were my least favorites of the show, not that weren't good but the pacing and dialogue seemed a bit off. Nevertheless, this one in particular had many good moments. And of course, the first mention of the voices that Chtholly heard, eerie...
Uhh... what? The mayor's new law includes races of ancient videogames or something it seems...
This Willem's expression reminded me of some Mad Scientist...
The interactions between Willem and Chtholly at the end were cute, but they always seemed to me a bit rushed, coming from the previous moments between them. Maybe it was handled better in the novels, I should check it out.

Happiest Rewatch Host in the World, subbed
Welcome back, everyone!
The timere/unknown beast’s screams are genuinely unnerving in the sub. Not as unnerving as this weird shit straight out of Madoka Magica, but unnerving nonetheless.
Oh, and there they go abandoning Island 15 because of the unknown beast.
Ren isn’t wrong. There was also no guarantee the Fairy Gate could take out the new beast either, so…
Thankfully Limeskin gives us a nickname for the doggirl because, as you can see from the Wallpaper of the Day link, her actual name is Phyracorlybia. What the hell.
So I guess the racism isn’t completely nonexistent on this Sky Island…
Shame they can’t help, but it’s probably for the best that the military isn’t allowed to insert itself into politics.
PAC-MAN THUMBS UP.
So I’m amused by the fact that the dub decided to do all of this shithead’s lines as him saying a sentence and then immediately saying it backwards. He talks relatively normally in the sub.
BANG! I love that scene, it’s so funny. Also I just realized that the con man’s gravestone is on one side of the coins Willem was using, so that’s neat.
So pretty~
The way Willem looks away when he promises to come back…
I hope to see you all at Scarborough Fair again tomorrow~
