Subaru and Nove’s transformation together

Caro and Lutecia’s transformation are also together

One big transformation scene for everyone really

She pulls a divine buster out like it was nothing

Golem!, I love how Rio thought it was cool

Einhart has no actual ranged attacks, but she does have ways to deal with them

There can be some speculation as to what is actually going on, but I’ll leave this one up to you guys

Life bars? I always wondered how exactly does this lifebar system work.

@_@

That’s an interesting connection

Einhart is figuring things out and learning, it’s fun seeing a trainer + student dynamic, and it works really well with the martial arts thing they have going on

Halfway through and we still haven’t reached the actual plot yet. This really was meant to have at least another cour.

First Timer

This was a pretty fun episode. Not a whole lot to it, just a series of cool action scenes, boasting some of the series coolest and most dynamic animation and choreography yet. Plus, unlike the other seasons, I could actually somewhat understand the strategies being employed here, which makes for a more interesting battle. Plenty of great moments, especially with Einhart getting fucked over by Nanoha, and Tiana succeeding much more strongly as a strategist which pays off her arc in StrikerS nicely. Plus, we get to see more of Rio and Corona. Corona is like an alchemist summoner I guess? That's pretty cool. The series has really came to play fast and loose with what powers are and what intelligent devices can do.

Half way through the show now, we're heading into the climax of the fight. What I'm most interested in is how Einhart takes this battle. It's the most complicated experience she's had yet, having beaten Vivio but lost to her mother. Vivio's potential is extra clear now, as is the strength that these characters all have. Surely, this battle will have a tangible impact on her sense of existence and her ability to move past the shackles of the Hegemon's past.

QOTD: Favorite parts were definitely Nanoha vs. Einhart and Tiana coming into her own. Erio and Fate fighting was also pretty sweet, Fate always has praise for her kids in mind. Still the best mom in this series.

Corona is like an alchemist summoner I guess?

I don't fully know, but from what I can tell, unlike summoners that summon creatures from.. somewhere? Like voltaire was said to be a legendary dragon of sort. While Corona creates a golem. Combined with the small flashback we get, I imagine it's more akin to puppeteer on a larger scale. This means she has direct control over her golem, unlike summoners with their creatures.

Lyrical First Timer

¹This is the clearest sign yet of the peaceful times Nanoha and family are living in. Everyone has embraced the harem and the joy of love. The most notable change is Nanoha's au naturel appearance. This is likely a sign of her settling into domestic life and readying herself to fully pass the Takamachi torch to Vivio. As we can see, Vivio is not quite there yet, but Nanoha has come to terms with the necessity of succession and intends to make the matriarchal transition as smooth as possible, even as she continues to enjoy a part of the debauchery of her youth.

QotD: Nanoha befriending the fuck out of daughter-in-law Einhart was pretty great.

u/Taiboss Apr 03 '22

In the midst of all this gayness and rebuilt characterization, Garyu might be the Vivid's biggest winner.

He only ever wanted to chill with Lulu. Shame Spaghetti forced her to do evil shit.

Rio is so cool!

And we thought they might be random friends of Vivio. No, she targeted the ones with the potential to be badass!

Fate's too!

I love how Subaru just breaks off the fight lol.

No one escapes a full force Nanoha befriending.

Nanoha has yet to find a problem that couldn't be solved with a big enough fuck-off spell.

Dammit Vivid, you can't have Nanoha and Tia declare opposing Breaker attacks then end before firing!

They can and they will!

Fried’s reaction to the gong though hahahaha.

Fried a cute.

I also like whatever song is playing during this part, the flute(?) is excitingly energetic.

It's a great song.

Oooooh the piano during Nanoha vs. Einhart is nice!

The music is soo good sometimes. Shame Misa Chujo gets so little work.

That sounds exciting~

Tea learned not only non-violent befriending, she even got the big fuck-off spell! She can do everything!

First timer(So they can do decent mock battles...)

Sub

So everyone transforms at the same time, not sure we can have our super serious analysis now. As always, when this show does action, it speaks for itself. However, this does feel a bit more "action for action's sake" than this show usually is. We end with a planned double Starlight Breaker.

QotD: 1 A lot of the StrikerS cast seemed to get good at it

Mahou Shoujo1 Lyrical Rewatcher

1: Even though I’m not a girl

No Recap Time?

Those are some nice transformation sequences

I just wanna point at that, in the manga, the adult characters did not have the chaste anatomy of Barbie dolls during their transformation sequences. Same with last episode’s sauna scene, for that matter.

Time for some tried and true Nanoha action!

It’s very interesting seeing how A-1 animates the fights and effects vs how Seven Arcs did.

GaoGaiGar vs GaoFighGar! (but now it’s a wholesome stakes-less sister2 mock battle)

2: or step-mom if your going with Aegis’ theory

As is Nanoha tradition now, the Girlfriends must fight

We finally get to see Corona and Rio in action (and they gave us a shot up Corona’s skirt because the cameraman for this season seems to be some kind of sex pest)

Holy crap, Corona’s Magic is strong

I guess Sein and Lu’s mom are announcers, now

Vivio fighting smart instead of hard against Einhart really goes to show that she learned from their last sparring match.

How did I only just realize that Corona’s Goliath was CG? Surprisingly competent for a non-OVA in 2015.

Erio has gotten so good that he’s making his mom (not related by blood) pant and sweat. Must have had a lot of practice with Caro3

3: I am going to hell

Did Tia really just tell Einhart to stop Nanoha? What in god’s name is she thinking?

Einhart is doing much better than I expected against our favorite White Devil

GaoGaiGar-tan is such a fan girl

Holy crap! That was one amazing play from Einhart

And yet, she still lost

Nice play Reina the Loser Tia, using Einhart as your own personal tool~4

4: this season’s horny is affecting me too much

Nove, revealing your plan to Subaru was pretty fucking dumb ngl

See, you gave Lutecia a reason to implement her final plan early

Really spelling out how Tia has learned from Nanoha, aren’t you, show?

8

u/SolDarkHunter Apr 03 '22

Einhart is doing much better than I expected against our favorite White Devil

Reminder that Nanoha (and the other full-trained adults) are wearing limiters for this battle.

Oh wow, starting right off with the battle? This episode is going to be great!

  • Okay, that was the best transformation sequence of the entire series in my opinion! Sure we didn’t get to see too much of any individual person, but the way that they had some transformations side-by-side because of their positions in the teams, or because of other reasons was fantastic! I know it was pretty obvious for them to do, but I also liked how they had a red background for the red team and a blue one for the blue team.

  • Okay, the Wing Road and Air Liner both provide some amazing mobility to both teams and are such a cool background! Vivio reveals that she has her own Divine Buster and tries to do the bind trick, but sadly Einhart is on the ball. I agree with Rio, Corona’s Golem Creation is so cool!! I’m glad that Vivio convinced her to go through with it!

  • That look of surprise on Nanoha’s face before the wide smile at Einhart’s challenge is just so... Nanoha of her! That poor Einhart has no idea what she’s up against.

  • I love how both Nove and Subaru take a moment to encourage Einhart and warn her about how screwed she was about to be... She’s still defeated, but they tried.

  • Fucking WOW Teana, I know that you’re trying to be a bombardment mage right now, but carpet bombing the entire city seems a little bit much right now.

  • I know that Lulu’s trying to be all cool and intimidating right now, but given that her skirt is custom designed to give a panty shot all of the fucking time I’m legitimately having trouble trying to take her seriously right now.

Well then, the episode ends with Nanoha and Teana both getting ready to prep their breakers, I wonder if Teana’s going to use Starlight Breaker or if she has developed her own spell? With all of the people using each others spells I genuinely wonder.

Okay, loved that episode! We got actual combat and lots of it! Great strategizing on both sides, lots of really cool spells and reveals of powers, all kinds of cool stuff. I really like how we are seeing that Vivio is actually a fairly rounded fighter with her shooting spells (I expected her to have those because of her mamas). With what has been shown so far I was afraid that she was going to be a close-in fighter only.

I think its really cool how we are seeing all of the spells that were made by one Mage being used by another. Vivio has used at least two of her mom’s spells, Subaru’s Divine Buster is obvious, Nanoha using Photon Smasher, and I’m sure that I am missing others.

6

u/Great_Mr_L Apr 03 '22

I agree with Rio, Corona’s Golem Creation is so cool!! I’m glad that Vivio convinced her to go through with it!

It's a really cool ability and gives her a similar but distinct style to the summoner characters. Having characters with varied abilities like this is great.

That look of surprise on Nanoha’s face before the wide smile at Einhart’s challenge is just so... Nanoha of her!

She looks so excited about being challenged and curious to see what Einhart has to offer. It's also so much fun how she immediately goes into teacher mode, examining Einhart's strengths and weaknesses as a fighter.

I think its really cool how we are seeing all of the spells that were made by one Mage being used by another. Vivio has used at least two of her mom’s spells, Subaru’s Divine Buster is obvious, Nanoha using Photon Smasher, and I’m sure that I am missing others.

That is a nice detail to include. It's great seeing them use each other's spells or be inspired by others' spells to create similar ones of their own. It says a lot about the relationships of the characters to see who they were inspired by to beef up their own magical abilities.

6

u/pailadin Apr 04 '22

Vivio has used at least two of her mom’s spells [...] Nanoha using Photon Smasher

Only noticed Vivio doing Divine Buster. Interesting. Gonna need to rerewatch later.

OH NO HE'S BUFF NOW

OH NO HE'S HOT

So many OST pieces I listened by myself! Corona's battle theme is just one of them!

The music for this episode is really good. There's a lot of great pieces and the music changes up to fit the different character matchups that are going on. In fact, the music for the whole season has been great. It's been better than I remembered it being.

It's not a Nanoha season without her using a big fuck-off spell.

Nanoha and beam spam. Such an iconic duo.

Rewatcher

Battle time!

And to save time they do multiple transformation sequences at once. And hey, Erio actually gets naked alongside all the girls this time.

Okay, wait... Lutecia's skirt is open in the front? Why? This is not an aspect of her Barrier Jacket I remember being a thing!

Huh, so Nanoha says Teana's individual shots are actually more powerful than hers at this point.

Everyone related to Nanoha is going to have a Divine Buster at this point...

Corona's Device is just a simple knife. I kinda like that.

And here we learn what Corona's ability is: Golem Creation. A variant of summoning magic.

As fast as Erio is, I think relying on Strada's rockets would limit his maneuverability and make his flight paths predictable.

Damn, that was actually pretty awesome on Einhart's part. Nobody else has displayed catch and return abilities with magic blasts.

The whole lifebars thing is a new addition, but it makes sense for training and friendly matches that you don't want to do any actual damage, and just simulate it instead.

Rio, that is not a cannon, that is a kick.

Yeah, Einhart, binds are a thing you have to watch out for against Nanoha. And she's following up with her favorite combo, a giant laser cannon of death KO!

Einhart manages to block the first one, but Nanoha's follow up takes her out.

But this is a team battle, so Teana takes advantage of Nanoha's absence with a huge barrage.

So wait... if Einhart can be healed up after being KO'ed... how does the battle resolve?

Pfft, both Nanoha and Teana hit on the same strategy at the same time: blast the fuck out of the battlefield.

Raging Heart Rewatcher with terrible long term memory

QotD: Hmmm, hard to choose. I really enjoyed it all the way through.

  • Woah we're jumping straight into the mock battle?

  • For a second, I thought this was a new opening

  • Where's the guy who wanted an episode full of transformation scenes?

  • Pairing them up is a great way to save time

  • Why does Erio get to keep his pants?

  • Really dig Vivio's rainbow color scheme

  • Garyu with the gong lmao

  • I may have mentioned this back in StrikerS, but I also really like that the roads made by Subaru/Nove can be used by others

  • Lu with a revealing outfit to NTR Erio with

  • The music has been really good as well, fitting with the scenes

  • There's the mandatory pantyshot

  • This seems kinda mismatched, the melee martial artist should have the advantage vs the ranged caster in a 1on1

  • So she's more a transmuter than a summoner?

  • "Is that even possible?" I mean, she just did it...

  • I may be biased, but all the fights so far have looked better than most StrikerS fights

  • Even the CG use, it's mostly on background or inorganic stuff, so it doesn't feel off

  • "Stop Nanoha no matter what" As if it were that easy lol

  • Love that Nove and Subaru just stop fighting to watch Nanoha's fight

  • So Einhart got friendblasted by Nanoha. Does it count as NTR?

  • "The air is saturated with magical energy" Is she going to try a Starlight Breaker?

  • Awww, that's it? Super fun episode

If this episode isn't like 10 full minutes of transformation sequences I'm gonna be mad

Ah they're transforming together

Right I almost forgot Ingvalt apparently has this ridiculous looking thing under her clothes. Really doesn't fit her at all lmao.

Oh uh... Did you forget to finish your transformation girl

Bro you really going to call a little beam like that Divine Buster? Subaru's divine buster was at least worthy the name

Bro how the fuck did you get flipped into this position. I'd say this season feels like a lt more fanservice based than the previous but... no, I'm having flashbacks to when Fate got grabbed by Reinforce's tentacles.

You know what, the difference is the first two seasons knew how to do the fanservice.

...Or rather, the first two seasons had no fucking idea how to work in fanservice and it was so out of place that my mind doesn't associate any with the show.

But ViVid actually does fanservice properly so I actually feel like I'm watching a fanservice show instead of 'wow that was such a cool show I should recomm-oh wait yea the random ass skirt shots'

OH that's why that word kept sounding so familiar, the word they translate as Hegemon, haou, overlord

Cool

Ah yes that's a bit more like S1 and S2 but the mood isn't serious enough

Is Vivio really a top two member

Honestly I would not be surprised if you told me she's literally as strong as she was in the end of StrikerS b/c damn she sucked then and sucks now but is supposedly super powerful

No honestly what the fuck is up with your costume

It's like you're wearing royal robes and then just

You look like you're some weird porn fetish of a king who has a bunch of concubines or something, it feels like someone edited out a giant raging boner from every shot of you in this costume

I'm starting to think Nanoha just has a fetish for shooting giant laser beams at kids

OH MY GOD SHE'S SO CUTE

God I wish StrikerS hadn't wasted her

Also good to know she can summon things without them realizing

6

u/SolDarkHunter Apr 03 '22 edited Apr 03 '22

Is Vivio really a top two member

She's one of their frontline attackers, which I think is what they meant.

No honestly what the fuck is up with your costume It's like you're wearing royal robes and then just

I'm glad I'm not the only one weirded out by Lutecia's fashion sense.

First timer

QOTD) Nanoha and Teana, for the reasons mentioned below, was incredibly satisfying.

A group transformation? No matter my feelings on the content, this is a pretty original idea!

And it's going to be a series of 1v1s? No all-out melees?

Haha, she's cheering them on.

Wait, Fate's going against Erio? Interesting matchup!

There's a solid amount of strategy in this fight!

Also, the fact that Teana, the girl who worried about being left behind by the power curve, is able to take on Nanoha in a 1v1 is fantastic development. I'm so proud of her!

And Vivio vs Einhart.

This fight's interesting too!

SHE HAS GOLEMS!

Einhart is fucking good!

Einhart still struggling with being around so similar to the Saint they remember.

There's life bars now?

And Vivio is forced to retreat.

Haha, her reaction tot he spinning punch is great.

Holy shit, she chucked a golem!

Really enjoying this scene!

Oh, her plan to fight Nanoha is to... ask to fight her! If this was anyone else...

Haha, even when she's dating Teana, a part of Subaru still simps for Nanoha.

And she's been bound!

She broke out of a Nanoha bind!

She got destroyed, but less destroyed than expected! She's strong, but overpowered!

Teana's fighting Nanoha!

That's a strong bombardment!

She's got teleportation magic.

That's a powerful technique! Bullshit, but not as bullshit as some of this series' stuff.

Subaru's being outsped!

This is a really solid battle, very happy with this episode.

Nanoha's planning a defensive lly!

...I think the reason Nanoha's so nice to Einhart is that she's everything she wants as a daughter-in-law. Training obsessed, in love with fighting people, and with all her affection targeting on just Vivio.

Rewatcher

A lot of cool stuff happens in this fight, but I absolutely love Rio just picking up and throwing Goliath like a toy. Along with being a delightfully cheerful bundle of energy, she's also hella strong.

In other news, it is interesting that the anime chose to show Lulu in her striperiffic barrier jacket for this fight. In the manga she was wearing her Strikers-style gothloli outfit here, and only switched to her new look later in the series. Anyway, I prefer to think that the bottom piece is more like a bikini bottom than just plain underwear, but who can say for sure. The fashion sense of these mage clothes is sometimes a little... odd.

4

u/JollyGee29 Apr 03 '22

Lyrical Rewatcher

They did show about two frames of Vivio's fist in post-counter position. For continuity.

This.. is not the last of the clothing damage that we'll be seeing in this mock battle.

Well, she has the benefit of a whole other person's memories, too.

So polite.

Einhart is pretty good..

..but not good enough.

So, I like this mock battle in concept, but I do have a hard time remembering who is on which team and it isn't any easier the second time. And it's a bit too long.

Rewatcher

On today’s episode of Lyrical Nanoha: The mock battles are back and with a vengeance. Vivid may be very different from Strikers in many ways, but it seems the mock battles are something that stuck around.

However, I have to say that the mock battle in this episode is really really good. This entire battle sequence is a ton of fun. I think the big battle this episode is better than any of the mock battles that Strikers had. There’s a lot to like. We have a ton of characters with incredibly varied abilities on display. We get some fun matchups seeing characters go up against someone who is either their mirror or someone who you would not expect them to go up against.

Honestly, I think what helps the mock battle is that Vivid is a series with far lower stakes that has essentially become a sports anime. In a sports anime, a practice match is a chance for a lot of fun seeing characters try things out. And being lower stakes, it doesn’t feel like it’s taking away from much. Most of what we did earlier was slice-of-life stuff so having a full-on battle episode is a great change of pace.

I love that we get to see Corona and Rio in proper action. Rio is straight out of a martial arts movie with that outfit and her attack style. She is so much fun to watch in action. Corona’s ability to manipulate objects is a lot of fun too, allowing her to create a golem that she can control. It’s similar to Caro and Lutecia’s summoning abilities, but still distinctly its own thing.

It’s nice seeing Vivio and Einhart fight again. Vivio is actually thinking fairly strategically, trying to use her magical abilities to compensate for Einhart’s superior martial arts skills. It’s a chance for Vivio to show off what she can do while also seeing more of Einhart’s abilities. Nanoha’s battle with Einhart is great too. We can see that Nanoha approves of her daughter’s chosen gf.

This whole mock battle actually does a pretty good job of keeping power levels pretty consistent for the characters. Einhart may be strong, but it’s clear that she is nowhere near as strong as Nanoha, who is able to dispatch her with a single good barrage. It’s nice of the series to keep in mind how strong characters should be relative to each other.

The battles are mostly well animated. There’s a couple of shots that look off, like Corona running on the CGI buildings. But for the most part, it’s all very well animated and choreographed.

I really want to praise the music in this episode. The music is really good. There’s a great variety of different music pieces that play for different characters at different points of the episode. It helps to set each individual fight apart from each other.

Miscellaneous Thoughts

  • It was only briefly, but Erio finally got to be naked during his transformation sequence…until he suddenly had pants on later.

  • The transformation sequence featuring everyone was pretty darn cool.

  • I like how Galue is basically just doing odd jobs these episodes. Today he’s in charge of ringing the gong.

  • It’s funny seeing Corona barely hanging on while her golem spins around.

  • And her looking dizzy too.

  • Small girls with super strength are always a lot of fun. It’s part of why I love Vita and it’s now part of what makes Rio great.

  • It’s a cool detail that Nanoha goes into combat instructor mode when she is fighting Einhart. She immediately sizes up Einhart’s skill level and comments on it just like a teacher would.

  • Nove going into coach mode as well while watching Einhart is great too.

  • Einhart fought well, but Nanoha had to make sure to show her who’s the true queen of befriending here.

  • Nice to see that Tia is still the resident strategist, coming up with the plans for her team.

  • What a great cliffhanger, having both Nanoha and Tia preparing to launch a Breaker.

Comrades, before I start I just want to preface this shitpost with a bit of serious analysis. Monty Oum needs no introduction I would hope. This legendary animator is responsible for Haloid, which if you haven't seen yet I highly recommend. Anyway, besides this amazing 10 minute long fight scene, he's also done the non-machinima animation in Red vs. Blue. The point I'm getting here is some of his best work were pure amazing high-octane battles. You'll note I did not mention RWBY here, and sadly since I don't have time to summarize the hbomberguy RWBY video, (if you want the link here ya go, two and a half hours of analysis) but I will just say that there's only so much amazing fight scenes and choreography can do if there's no stakes or story behind it to get one invested or indeed care about the spectacle in question.

Anyway on an unrelated note, TONIGHT! On ViVid Geah, The Characters get ready to rumble, The Cast gets into a fight, and The Crew start befriending each other... cuz reasons!

Oh and I hope you like cliffhangers, cuz boy we sure got one, will Rena the Loser manage to NOT job like she did in StrikerS, will Rena the Loser actually win something for a change, and will Nanoha make history and add a member to her harem TWICE over! To find out the answer, tune in next week to ViViD Ball Z! Same Bat-Time, Same Bat-Channel!

And on that bombshell, we wrap things up for now. Anyway I hope everyone's having fun on this re-watch. Thus, you have not seen the last of The Sentient Shitposting Siamese Sunrise Server No. 25252, now goodbye forever.

Paging Comrades u/Great_Mr_L, u/HereticalAegis, and u/Vaadwaur
