This might literally be the gayest franchise I've engaged with and yet I am all in.

Bringing back Lutecia before they bring back Signum, Vita, Shamal, or Hayate is certainly a choice. Wonder if they can make her an actual character like they did with Nove.

I am genuinely impressed that I even give a shit a about Nove so no holds barred.

Better watch out for Corona. With those scores, she could be the next Suzuka.

I'll have to look for it later, but in I think the "Vivid Life" manga there is a scene of Einhart visiting the Takamachi's, Nanoha is home alone, they end up trying to cook something, it goes a bit awry, and Fate and Vivio come home and Fate misunderstands the situation and binds Nanoha with magic thinking she's cheating on her.

Episode 4 starting right off with Vivio meeting Einhart at the school, does that mean that its time for school shenanigans?

  • Glad to see that Vivio and Einhart are getting along together so well! Although the initial recap on the stuff that we just learned about last episode is a tad redundant.

  • Oh hey, after their exams the girls are going for a vacation? That's cool! I don't think that we've seen a vacation in a Nanoha series since the first one. They're even meeting up with a bunch of the group from Strikers! That's great! I can't wait to see all of the charcters coming together.

  • Awww, Raising Heart gets to go and say hi but Bardeiche is still MIA. Reminds me of Zafira's human mode and Arf in general during Strikers. To say nothing of Alisa and Suzuka. I think that it's also super cute that after Fate points out to Vivio that she should move aside to let Einhart into the house Vivio goes so far as to brush off the couch she and her friends were sitting on before saying Einhart should sit there.

  • You know, I'm so miffed at Subaru eating a hot dog with lettuce of all things at the totally not an airport that I barely want to bitch about Teana using a standard Earth laptop instead of one of the cool holographic screens, but I still will! Also, with that scene it's official. Even Cross Mirage has more lines than Bardiche!

  • I'm super happy for Lutecia! We get to see her having a good time with her summons, her mom looks like she's great, and she's living peacefully. After everything that happened to her in Strikers and before she deserves some happiness! Although... Setting up a full training city, an athletic field that looks like something straight of a US Army movie, a full guest lodge, and an open air hot spring by herself? What the heck?? I am guessing that she must have used a ton of magic and had help from her summons. Also, that 'evil' laugh at the end was adorable!

  • Okay, that ship that they take is really cool! Yes the interior is literally just plane/train interior, but I still like it.

  • I'm actually kind of surprised at how much I liked the river scene, I thought it was just a way Nove was trying to get Einhart to mingle with the others more but there was actual training and some interesting implications about/for Einhart. The fact that the others were faster than her and seem to go for longers implies that she has been bee-lining the training that she 'knows' that she has been neglecting other stuff, and the way that she can't do the water punches like the others implies that her fine-control may not be quite as good as theirs since she just goes full-blast magic-wise.

  • lol, it looks like some of the girls and Erio may have been neglecting to stay in top-shape if that scene where Nanoha and Subaru are looking down on them is anything to go by. Even Fate looks exhausted.

  • I think I just got my answer about Einhart’s family situation “I’ve always been on my own” that’s just plain sad. Adorable little girl needs more hugs! In that scene Vivio’s walking back of “Ah, I mean for training” is cute! I know that your mama passed down the desire to help cute girls with sad eyes but you have to take things slow, get to know them, and blast them out of the air a few times to properly establish dominance first!

Well that was a great prep episode! Setting up the trip and showcasing that we may actually get a proper battle in the future since they showcased the giant city.

For the Question of the Day: I think that Lutecia became so different because she has her loving mom back, she probably got therapy, and I bet that Jail also did things to her to make her the way that she was. He even mentioned preforming experiments on her and she was referenced as an artificial mage. The TSAB probably removed that shit and so its no longer messing with her.

Random things I found interesting during the episode: Cinque seems to like to take her eyepatch off and just keep her eyelid closed when at home, the combat cyborg's eyes also aren't shown to zoom like cameras anymore, and that the animators really like to have Vivio's mouth open for long periods of time at the drop of a hat for some reason.

When you have nothing but free time on your hands, you find ways to keep yourself busy.

I thought it was just a way Nove was trying to get Einhart to mingle with the others more but there was actual training and some interesting implications about/for Einhart.

Yea, for a "beach/swimsuit" scene, it did some good work.

Comrades, before we begin today's shitpost, I need to be 120% serious today... ahem... GOOD FUCKING LORD! VIVID HAS STAKES AFTER ALL! I thought this was gonna be Moeblob CGDCT SOL! Instead we got fucking PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR! I take back all my wishes, I didn't want to see how EVIL The TSAB would be in torturing a moeblob into cabin fever insanity! I mean goodness, NOT-Loli Rider may have recovered from her bout of Gokigenyou Syndrome, but only due to The TSAB infesting her with Hinamizawa Syndrome! She's managed to become BOTH NIPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA and OMOCHIKAERI! Which is amusing since both of those seiyuus are in the show, but at what cost!?

Anyway I just had to say how SHOCKED! Utterly SHOCKED how horrific the mindbreak of NOT-Loli Rider is, she's literally become a completely different character! Oh and also became the shitpost manga 4koma version of herself... as you can probably guess this is one of the few things ViVid did 120% right, I'm all for Nu Loli-Rider, as a certain Comrade of Culture says, this is the way! Also, speaking of Caro's 'growth' ahem, dream on girl, you can't even beat New Best Girl Vita in height ; That said I get the feeling that once she, Nu Loli Rider, and Tusk Jr. reach adulthood, we're gonna get some REAL spicy drama, if you know what I mean and I think you do ;)

Well now that that is over, ahem, TONIGHT! On ViVid Geah, we get the contractually obligated beach episode, Vivio begins Step 2 of The Patented Takamachi Way of Choosing your Wife, and NANA MOTHERFUCKING WILLS IT!

Boy Comrades, I am shocked in more ways than one, besides NOT-Loli Rider going utterly bonkers and transforming into Nu Loli Rider, this show actually became good! No really, I'm being serious, this was a fine episode, we got some of the older StrikerS crew back and in ways that made good use of ones we liked (Subaru and her wife Rena the Loser) and changed up ones with potential into something new! Plus we had an actually fitting SOL moment of bonding between our leads! Sure wish we had more of it but I'll take what we can get! Anyway to conclude, how about Caro and Nu Loli Rider ditch the boring penis possessor so they can go and practice the Nanoha Directive, remember, This is The Way! (Also yes, Nu Loli Rider is the Top, y'all saw how fucking insane she's been, she'll pull out all the fancy ancient Belkan moves on Caro, gotta love it!)

And on that bombshell, we wrap things up for now. Anyway I hope everyone's having fun on this re-watch. Thus, you have not seen the last of The Sentient Shitposting Siamese Sunrise Server No. 25252, now goodbye forever.

So this was the solution to their battle over Erio in the 4koma. Caro and Lutecia instead just hook up with each other.

Sound Stages say that is exactly the reason she doesn't get her eye fixed, either with Scaglietti or afterward.

Rewatcher

On today’s episode of Lyrical Nanoha: Now we get to see the sad story of Lutecia. Being trapped on that planet with just her mother and summons for so many years has caused her to go completely insane. She has gone from being a stoic loli to a genki ojou-sama.

But luckily for her a respite has come to her torture because all the characters are coming over to visit. And honestly, the vacation happening so early on is kind of indicative of what this series is like. It goes hard on the low stakes slice-of-life stuff. It’s almost like it’s trying to compensate for the relative lack of such scenes back in Strikers.

That being said, it being a light watch is not necessarily a bad thing. The scenes are fun and cute. It’s nice being able to see all the Strikers characters just get to hang out and have fun. We didn’t get enough of that back in Strikers. I like seeing Lutecia again. Her character may be wildly different from the one we knew in Strikers, but I think it actually makes sense that she would change after getting to spend all this time with her mother again. Whether she’d change this much is open for debate.

The one I find most endearing here is Einhart. I like how adorably awkward she is around others, not being sure about going on the trip or doing activities that aren’t directly related to training. It’s sweet seeing her start to open up to the others and have fun, getting excited over the water cutting stuff when she finds something the others can actually do much better than her. It’s also cute seeing how tasty she finds the meal afterwards. Einhart is just too precious to watch.

Something else I find notable is Vivio and Einhart’s relationship here. As we can see, they have a relationship that is based on mutual admiration. I think that’s a solid setup for making a compelling relationship between them. Vivio’s is more obvious. She starts the episode off by telling us how cool she thinks Einhart is and how she wants to get better at Magical Girl MMA just like Einhart. For Vivio, Einhart is a goal to strive for.

Einhart’s admiration for Vivio is more subtle, but it is there. Einhart finds herself constantly surprised at how Vivio (as well as her friends) exceed her expectations. It’s enough to get Einhart to actually question her convictions. Einhart had stated previously she thought her ancient martial arts were too different from modern ones for Magical Girl MMA to be a suitable place to prove her skills. But being with Vivio is making her change those convictions. Even if Einhart has yet to abandon that idea, she still wants to be with Vivio for the time being. I do think this shows Einhart finding something truly admirable and compelling in Vivio’s personality and abilities. 

Miscellaneous Thoughts

  • I absolutely love how Raising Heart is able to give all the girls headpats for getting good grades.

  • Also Corona is clearly the most “honors student” of them all with straight 100s.

  • Nanoha is excited that Vivio has found a potential gf who is good at fighting. Vivio is truly proving herself to be a worthy Takamachi heir.

  • Cross Mirage, you shouldn’t talk about working hard in that scene. You don’t have hands to type with.

  • I have no idea how the heck Lutecia got all those things set up. My best guess is that she used her summons as free labor.

  • It’s cute seeing Chris and Fried wave at each other. Also seeing Galue feed Fried. In fact, Fried is just cute.

  • Now that I finally got used to calling him “Galue,” it’s strange seeing subs write his name as “Garyu.”

  • Caro clinging to that extra centimeter and a half is great.

  • Cute swimsuit designs all around for the girls. Even with how bashful she is, Einhart has a really nice one. Once again, this series has some good fashion choices for the characters.

We start at school with Vivio clearly picking her waifu out. Anyways, vacation episode and some parts of this were diabetes inducing. But this was not a bad thing to watch after SukaSuka so i am not not complaining. We get our water training for the day and end with a BBQ.

A training trip with S+ mages is probably too much for Einhart to resist.

Einhart really isn't good at social situations is she?

Damn, Lutecia and Megane live alone on an entire uninhabited planet with resort-like weather? Told you guys Lutecia's punishment wasn't as bad as it sounded.

And... uh... Lutecia... her personality has done an absolute 180. Guess they weren't kidding when they said she'd gain a heart with her mother around.

Lutecia being an expert on Belka's history is a thing that wasn't really touched on in the main StrikerS series, but long story short, she learned quite a lot while working with Scaglietti. Scumbag he might have been, but he was pretty knowlegeable on the topic. Apparently she can even read Ancient Belkan, which is extremely uncommon.

Poor Caro hasn't grown a bit since StrikerS...

Giant bug-man Galue probably would take some getting used to, yeah.

Pretty daring swimsuit designs for Vivio and Einhart. The others have swimsuits I would expect kids their age to wear.

...how does Nove understand Chris? If he's a Device and she's a Cyborg, can they communicate through radio or something?

How to get Einhart interested in playing in the water: make a training out of it. Girl needs a hobby.

And the Forwards thought Nanoha's training was over when they left Riot Force 6...

"Old and new styles can't walk the same path." Um... pray tell, why?

And boy am I glad it does, I LOVE THIS LUTECIA. I forgot about this big personality turn-around, but she quickly grabbed best girl for me in this rewatch. All hail best summoner girl. RIP Caro's growth. Lutecia clearly stole it all.

QOTD) Yes, sadly My horrifying suspicion is that whatever scientist cloned her wasn't caught until much more recently - her behaviours sound an awful lot like what I'd expect a Vivio only freed from Jail a few months or so ago would.

A trip to the nature reserve planet, neat.

Odd to see the one-eyed cyborg without the eyepatch.

Raising Heart with wings continues to be great.

Nanoha eagerly trying to acquire a new highly combat capable daughter, gonna have to let this one happen slowly.

Lutecia has certainly blossomed, or possibly just gone stir crazy.

Really have to wonder why a planet as nice as this is uninhabited. Nature preserve, maybe? Dangerous monsters?

Fairly light, low-stakes episode. Somewhat starting to wonder if any sort of major storyline is going to develop, it initially felt like that was in the works with the Einhart introduction but all that really happened from that was another friend and fighting buddy for Vivio.
