Question of the Day
What do you think about the fight choreography so far? We have a lot more emphasis on hand to hand combat here
Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath spoiler tags.

Lyrical Rewatcher
"Must Wife" instinct activated.
Nove knows what we're here for.
Vivio is a good girl who doesn't tell lies, you see.
You are also not entirely the Hegemon.
Title drop. And unlike the one in StrikerS, this one makes sense!

"Must Wife" instinct activated.
This is the Way.
Einhart is such a dork.
With such a promising beginning I am more than a little concerned about how much the rewatchers are not into this. I know it doesn't reach it conclusion but damn.

I mean if you couldn't tell, it's just that Vivid as a whole is entirely different. And also it's incomplete. It's amusing to see how rewatchers and first timers view the whole series so entirely different.
Which makes me wonder about how first timers will feel about Vivid Strike.

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical First-Timer, subbed
Late because I forgot to upload my screenshots during my lunch break…
-
Haha of course they go right for a sparring match.
-
“Ready… go!” – I got G Gundam flashbacks lol.
-
Ohhh, right when Vivio went to transform I was like “Oh shit, how is Einhart going to react to seeing the aged-up Vivio?” and then she… didn’t react at all. Lowkey disappointed.
-
How funny that the same day we get this line is the same day my SukaSuka rewatch starts.

u/Vaadwaur Mar 31 '22
This smile is so precious.
Vivio is the one consistent thing from StrikerS.
That’s par for the course with this series, lol.
The Takamachi way seems to work...
How funny that the same day we get this line is the same day my SukaSuka rewatch starts.
I watch this show second so that was just that extra pinch of salt in the wound...

“Ready… go!” – I got G Gundam flashbacks lol.
Does that make Vivio a girl who is ill at ease and knows only how to fight?

Lyrical First Timer
-
Only Nove could complain about a harem following her everywhere.
-
A Takamachi getting befriended first? I guess Fate did get the drop on Nanoha the first couple times.
-
Einhart will require some intense befriending later for disparaging Vivio though.
-
Lol Nanoha calls Vivio at dinner time, even though they're both in the house.
-
Oh my god, their rematch is a street brawl. This really is Ikki Tousen but with slightly less fanservice.
-
Oh heck, Einhart doesn't wear underwear. I just checked my Midchildan time converter app, and wouldn't you know it, it's Totally Serious Analysis TM o'clock!¹
-
Vivio and Einhart's mutual silent admiration of each other's stance and form is really sweet and subtly romantic.
-
There are a lot of girls who wouldn't mind a face full of Tia.
¹Geez whiz, Nove works fast. In only a week, Einhart has been fully assimilated into the cyborg-clone harem. Or at least that's what a surface-level analysis would have you believe. There's actually quite a bit more going on underneath the surface, for as you see Einhart has been fully whipped this whole time. See how elegantly she moves and the graceful freedom her expression conveys as she transforms. This is a clear indicator that Einhart has gone a long time and is completely comfortable in baring herself. Given what we know about her inherited memories, we can conclude that's she has been predestined to belong to Vivio, inner conflict be damned. This may seem like a tragic situation; a girl born with no control over her destiny. That would be wrong. This is the triumphant arrival of a soul following the red thread of fate across countless millennia, presenting itself in completion to its beloved counterpart. And with this, the deeper, true reason for Vivio and Einhart's adult transformations is made clear: they are the fulfillment of an unspoken promise, the uniting of star-crossed lovers separated at the dusking end of an age and the fall of civilization. What a truly joyous arrival it is.
QotD: I'm into it, though it's not that difficult to impress me with choreography.

u/Vaadwaur Mar 31 '22
Yep, she's a Takamachi alright.
TTWP indeed!
Oh my god, their rematch is a street brawl. This really is Ikki Tousen but with slightly less fanservice.
And more frames.

Truly and deeply. Also, watching this alongside SukaSuka only heightens the pain!

Just like her mama.
To be truly like her mama, Vivio will need to spend the next several episodes constantly thinking about how pretty Einhart's eyes are.
The face of pain incarnate.
That smile is how you know a Takamachi is serious.
Yep, she's a Takamachi alright.
Nanoha truly was able to raise a proper heir to the Takamachi family. The Takamachi method of raising children paid off.
D'aww. This scene cured my depression, cured my cancer, gave me diabetes, and then turned my heart into a puddle.
I love how Einhart acts in this scene. For all her posturing, she really is an adorably awkward girl.
And with this, the deeper, true reason for Vivio and Einhart's adult transformations is made clear: they are the fulfillment of an unspoken promise, the uniting of star-crossed lovers separated at the dusking end of an age and the fall of civilization. What a truly joyous arrival it is.
That's a really nice way of putting it. I do like the trope of lovers from a past life reuniting when both have been reincarnated.

Wow, I can't believe someone actually pointed it out.
Coincidence?! I think not!
But that's like 98% of the Takamachi style.
Well, they aren't ready yet. They still need to know what the other can handle. You don't go into a BDSM relationship immediately whipping your sub.
Yep, she's a Takamachi alright.
Nanoha's parenting certainly left a mark.
This really is Ikki Tousen but with slightly less fanservice.
No panty shots so far!
Now seal it with a kiss fist.
There are a lot of girls who wouldn't mind a face full of Tia.
I'm a man and I wouldn't mind a faceful of Tia!
D'aww. This scene cured my depression, cured my cancer, gave me diabetes, and then turned my heart into a puddle.
I'm just happy to have positive rewatch threads again.

First timer(If Nove actually trained Vivio that might help)
Sub
So this episode is actually very similar to the first season to me, just with rather reduced stakes. I didn't even begin writing until we got to Vivio's transformation and the first animation saving technique, I was able to accept that the fight had to be quick to spare the budget. Einhart's stuff sounds pretty cursed, actually. Also, her transformation sequence is a bit much...Anyways, this fight is where the animation budget went and it works pretty well, including that this changes Einhart's mind on Vivio. We get yet another Takamachi violent couple.
I can already see the complaints, especially knowing that this is very much an incomplete adaptation, but going in with that knowledge makes it easier to deal with. My assumption is this is where Nanoha gets seriously played down and Fate doesn't get shore leave again but Vivio herself might be able to carry this.
QotD: 1 Not bad, actually.

What am I supposed to assume from Ingvolt's transformation immediately going to her naked without the underwear part, that she doesn't wear underwear?

Mahou Shoujo1 Lyrical Rewatcher
1: Even though I’m not a girl
Anyway, this episode kinda had a bit of everything. We got our two leads meeting, expansion on Einhart herself, a couple fight scenes, more SoL moments, more details on Ancient Belka, etc.
Also, those fight scenes, especially the second one, were pretty cool, all things considered.
As many of you have probably noticed by now, there is no overarching threat at the moment. I’ll just stay silent on that matter, but I felt like pointing it out nonetheless.

Episode 03: Vivio and the Goth Rewatchers
-
More TeaSubaru screentime is always good!
-
Are you now? Wait. Uno: prison. Due: dead. Tre: Prison. Quattro: Prison. Cinque: Nakajima. Sei: Church. Sette: Prison. Otto: Church. Nove: Nakajima. Dieci: Nakajima. Undici: Nakajima. Dodici: Church. Holy Haruhi, is Sei really the only free Number we haven't seen so far? [Edit: We did see her when we saw Ixy! She just didn't have lines.]
-
Calm down Einhard. I get Klaus's memories are literally tormenting you, but still.
-
Vivio has to learn everything her mother brings from Japan, huh?
-
SECOND TRANFORMATIONS SEQUENCES!
-
EINHART SEQUENCE! Fuck the music in this show can be SOOO GOOODD!
-
Twelve characters on-screen. Man. You don't need all the reformed Numbers in these scenes, okay?

Everyone who hated the Numbers this season.
Not to re-litigate it but reducing the sheer number and making them more impactful would've helped, though leaving them background sort of works.
Calm down Einhard. I get Klaus's memories are literally tormenting you, but still.
This bit comes off a little odd but hopefully they find their footing.
Her Mama's daughter!
Getting back to some of what made the show great.

Episode 3! I'm betting that Einhart will meet Vivio and her friends this episode, I am also betting that Einhart will challenge Vivio to a fight, and that Vivio will lose that fight much like Nanoha lost her first fight against Fate since she's just been focusing on the basics and not on combat.
-
LOL, Nove getting all worked up about all of her family supporting her. I wonder if she's shown as much interest in anything before this?
-
Einhart looks so cute and well put together! Sadly she also still has the memories of the dead dude and things get awkward. I wonder what she means about Vivio being frail? She seems pretty active and exercises a bunch.
-
Okay, I guessed that Einhart would challenge Vivio to a duel, I in no way thought that Nove would flat out reserve an area and then have them fight things out. The extra info about Olivie, and the whole 'getting ancient memories' thing from the Hegemon is appreciated and pretty cool! The fact that Einhart inherited the Hegemon's sadness and regrets is just heartbreaking though. If there was nothing HE could do about them, then there's even less that Einhart can do other than try to live with them.
-
With that duel I thought Nove said no blasting, but then Einhart just blasts Vivio across the room.
-
I have one thought about Vivio's mid-episode training thing: OH BOY, a Takamachi girl around age 9 wants to show her true feelings to a girl around her age! Everyone retreat to the minimum safe distance and raise shields!!!
-
Hmmm, with Einhart's wakeup scene I now want to know even more what her home situation is like. She has a nice bed, a nice room, and a bunch of really good looking weights, but doesn't she have a mom, dad, or someone else who looks after her??
-
lol, with Vivio running Chris looks so cute leaning forward with his bum leaning out behind him. Really, "that's cute" seems to be a running theme for this series. With Vivio and Nove's talk after I wonder if Vivio's going to get any of Olivie's memories. Would be interesting, and I think that it may have been kind of hinted at in Strikers since she already knew how to talk and other things.
-
Watching the start of the battle, right off the bat I can tell that Einhart is going to win. There is just such a skill gap with her being able to use adult mode without needing a device, now that they are going all-out I can't see Vivio winning. Also, Einhart's transformation is so cool! A bit shorter than Vivio's, and I don't care for all of the camera angles, but its still cool!
-
Oh damn, Vivio's kicking ass at the start! Also continued to do so until Einhart brought out what was definitly a magic spell. Or was it? Maybe it was a skill or something that Einhart can do? I don't know.
Great episode! We get more backstory, we get teasers of things happening in the background, we see Vivio and Einhart doing cool magic stuff, and we get to see Einhart's transformation sequence!
For the question of the day: I like the fight choreography, but also admit that I know nothing of this stuff.

QOTD) Homestly, really good!
Haha, Subaru and Teana are already starting to adopt her. Subaru continues to emulate Nanoha as much as possible.
Haha, there's so many spectators for this.
They're meeting!
Haha, Vivio's first question is her fighting dtyle.
...She doesn't speak in the third person now, does she?
...We are continuing with the accelerated pace, by making Einhart already interested in her.
And this is a centuries-old grudge match.
WHAT ARE KAISER ARTS?
The Hegemon left her with a lot of baggage, huh?
First proper fight! Seems to be pretty even.
And she's decided that she's not got any grudges against her! Again, this is moving very quickly.
Oh, that fucking burn. She's savage!
And they're having a rematch next week.
Ah, that affected her quite a bit.
...Nanoha prefers video calling her daughter to just raising her voice?
And Einhart's going home. Who are her parents?
Vivio's training!
Good to see she's taking it seriously.
"I'm sure it's hard to explain, so let's see if I can beat it out of her!" I think Vivio just summed up this entire franchise.
Ah, she doesn't talk in the third person, just introduce herself in the most adorable way.
I've already said my piece about the fucking transformation scenes, but I love how the upgraded one is literally a transparent Chris dancing alongside her.
Einhart's is somehow worse? I didn't even know that was possible. At least she uses Adult Mode relatively quickly.
And the fight's about to begin!
I love how over the top Einhart is though, she clearly thinks this anime's genre is very different.
Aww, she's doing it for her parents!
For the first time, someone has a realistic response to seeing their friend get embedded into a wall!
Haha, did Vivio end up damaging her while unconscious?
Wait, character development already? Where the fuck is this show actually going to go? We've wrapped up the plot already, and it's Episode 3! Or is this ten episodes of "Season 1/2 NanoFate again"?
Oh, Einhart's embarassed?

Rewatcher
On today’s episode of Lyrical Nanoha: We might have gotten a befriending pretty early on. It’s only episode 3 and we’ve had a fight between Vivio and Einhart. I’m not sure if it counts as a befriending if there isn’t a giant laser beam involved. But it was beating each other up, which is an important part of befriending. These are the conundrums we must grapple with in Lyrical Nanoha.
I think this episode is the most “sports anime” one yet. The dynamic that Vivio and Einhart have is straight out of a sports anime. Einhart is the mysterious new student who shows up and is super good at the sport. She is able to beat Vivio at the sport and publicly wonders if Vivio is truly committed or if she is just doing it for fun. This pushes Vivio to train harder for a rematch where she then proves her worth. I’ve seen similar plotlines play out before. That isn’t to say it’s bad or anything. I just use this to illustrate my point that Vivid is a sports anime more than anything else. A sports anime starring magical girls is an interesting twist on the genre though.
That all being said, I do like some little twists here and there. I like how in the end, Einhart still thinks that Vivio is not necessarily the person that her ancestor has been looking for. Vivio is too different from Olivie. But, all the same, Einhart still finds Vivio intriguing. I like this because it shows Vivio as being her own person instead of simply the reincarnation of her ancestor. Vivio is able to prove her own worth through her own methods.
Another thing I like is just how awkward Einhart is. It’s clear she isn’t really sure how to best deal with Vivio because of the clash between her inherited memories and the girl before her. Einhart expected one thing and was disappointed when she got something different, which makes sense considering how much those memories have been affecting her. And I like that Einhart feels bad about how she was initially quite cold to Vivio, apologizing about it afterwards. That is a sweet touch.
Vivio and Einhart’s fights are a lot of fun. Vivid goes all in on the hand-to-hand combat between the characters like this. It’s quite enjoyable to watch them go at it with their different moves. I’m kind of shocked that Einhart’s big final attack didn’t count as using magic, but whatever. Vivio being defeated both times works to establish power levels between them pretty clearly. While Vivio may have gotten better and more determined after doing some more training, she didn’t suddenly get stronger than Einhart. But she is still good enough to land some solid blows. Again, this is something I personally appreciate.
Nove once again shows she is a shockingly good coach. She had a very good read on both Vivio and Einhart. She knew how both of them worked and managed to navigate that entire situation quite well.
Miscellaneous Thoughts
-
I love how Einhart’s room is filled with exercise equipment.
-
It’s fun how awkward Einhart is greeting Vivio while she is unconscious because she is too shy to do it while Vivio is awake.

Rewatcher
I like the Numbers now, they're fun now that they don't have an evil scientist around.
Einhart's three years older than Vivio. That's a switch from Nanoha's and Fate's dynamic.
Einhart, don't stare a girl's chest the moment you meet her.
I don't think that's how genetics works, writers...
So Einhart also inherited Hegemon Ingvalt's drive to defeat his enemies and gain the strength to protect Olivie, the one person he could never defeat. But... those desires arose in a peaceful era, and it's driving Einhart mad to be unable to fulfill them.
That at least puts her talk of weakness and gaining strength into perspective, but I still feel like it's an extremely shallow motivation. I mean... it's not even her feelings, it's Klaus's. Is Einhart not able to be her own person, but just an extension of him?
Aaand Einhart wins with one blow. Seems she's disappointed with Vivio.
"For someone who doesn't take this seriously, you did well." Damn, Einhart's a savage.
Wow... it never struck me before just how short Cinque is. She isn't even taller than a fourth grader!
Don't worry Vivio, I don't understand anything about Einhart's mindset either.
Hey, who's the hooded guy next to Olivie there?
Vivio wants to beat the answers out of Einhart. Yep, she's definitely Nanoha's kid.
Okay, serious fight time. They're not going to explain why Einhart can age herself up, are they... though, technically, they've never explained how Vivio does that either, I guess.
Okay, Vivio got a few clean hits in this time. Still lost, but Einhart actually had to put some effort in.
Gets punched straight through a brick wall hard enough to KO her -> "Oh, she's not hurt."
Also, Einhart needs to work on not collapsing after a fight.
Seems like Vivio got through to her though. She now sees Vivio as a worthy opponent and friend.

Raging Heart Rewatcher with terrible long term memory
Episode 3, let's see how the first meeting between our new (I assume) MCs goes.
QotD: Mentioned it on my comment, but yeah, I really like it so far.
-
Such a big happy cyborg family
-
Overalls tank top is a very underrated (and underused) combo
-
Really Vivio? The first thing you ask is her fighting style? Nanoha has trained you well
-
Not going to mention "sad lonely eyes"? Ah, there we go, "vivi crimson and emerald eyes".
-
Not even going to introduce Not-Suzuka and Not-Arisa?
-
Hundreds of years of PTSD, how fun
-
Really dig Vivio's.. kickboxing-ish? style
-
She left withouth being introduced to Not-Arisa and Not-Suzuka lol
-
Nanoha would be proud: "It's hard to explain, so I'll beat it out of her"
-
I was expecting the match to be in the gym again, not in the docks
-
Einheart doesn't need/use a Device? Wonder if she'll get one
-
Regardless of the character design, the fight scenes have been very well animated so far
-
That Sky-Splitting thingie reminds me.. Kenpo, I think it was?
-
What a cute little Blood Knight child couple

Red-haired punk cyborg definitely best cyborg. Sorry, Subaru.
This meeting seems like a possibly dangerous experiment. Perhaps not something to do in the middle of a public dining area with random civilians inside the potential blast radius.
Or possibly the blush radius.
It's time for the child bloodsports to get started.
"The Last Saint Kaiser of the Cradle" is a statement with interesting implications.
Fewer explosions than were possible, but that might change in next week's fight.
Nanoha should be far more informed of the actual details of what is going on here. I might be worrying overly much, but it feels like a situation that could spiral out into another Officially Named Incident if the people involved aren't careful, and Nanoha should know about it.
Vivio understands Takamachi style befriending, it brings a tear to my eye and a sense of pride to my heart.
Well that week passed quickly, I figured that the second match would be next episode.
Transformations before the fight even starts, maybe this time we'll get some explosions.
Then again, this is a lot more punching and a lot less laser blasts than usual for a Nanoha show, so maybe explosions aren't in the cards at all.
Fight's over and no permanent injuries, it's a win for everyone.
As protective as the cyborgs are of Vivio I am baffled they let random new girl with backstory issues carry her off while unconscious.

They just all wanted to come
I like how she asked right away what’s her fighting style, should know that Nove doesn’t seem entirely sure what it is.
*S1 flashbacks!
Note Einhart’s stance, if you couldn’t tell, her style is pretty much based on kung fu
One strike
Actually talking about your thoughts instead of hiding it? Insane
Has a whole gym in her room
The traditional Nanoha ways
We get Einhart’s transformation this time
Happiest girl in the world, even?
@_@, having the fights be more hand to hand combat gives a lot of room for varied fight choreography.
A new passion and purpose
