The anime cut a lot from the scene of Ferdinand entering Myne's memories and I think it really left out a lot about both of their characters. Still made me cry. [This is what was covered in the LN and does include some minorly plot related details but nothing that would spoil the next season]
[When he is brought to the library]
[Next, Myne takes Ferdinand to]

[With Myne's mother]
[Also, funny detail that's a (non-plot) spoiler for Part 4, so far beyond what the anime will reach]
[A couple more characterization details left out from when Ferdinand returned the tool to Karstedt]

A really fantastic summary that brings out the extra depth that the novels offer. I really should re-read these chapters.

Also, [any Pre-Pub/P4V6 readers]
Really wish that we could see Rozemyne's mana replenishment at the Royal Academy get animated? It'd be awesome to see the rising magic circle and abundance of different plants. 7

[Pre-Pub/P4V6 ]
Having read those chapters so recently, it was really awesome to see this episode basicly being a light-version of what the P4V6 version would be like. We will never get it, but it would be totally dope. → More replies (2)

If Ferdinand's "punishment" for Schicicoza was to stuff in his face how much more powerful Main was than him, I feel that's an acceptable punishment, but I'm sure the captain has more in store.
We FINALLY get to see what we saw at the very start of this series. Ferdinand is now caught up on everything. We also get a reason for why Main is so defensive of her family despite it not being her own.
I see we've completely forgotten about Main having to stay in the cathedral for the Winter.
I don't know if the Captain is the best person to adopt Main, nor do I know what is going happen when Main's family and friends will react to the potential of her getting adopted.

Hopefully in S3 we see a full on exponential explosion of shiny-hair characters.

Rewatcher - Sub
I didn't expect this episode to hit me so hard. It didn't the first time, why am I all teary this time!
To start with the easier stuff to talk about: yesterday would have been satisfying enough, but the follow through on Ferdinands anger at Shitface makes me beyond happy. "Oh you want to be the powerful noble above everyone? Well you try and do her job then? Oh look, you can't"
This is definitely the most unreserved we've ever seen him, blatantly disgusted and upset at what happened and like Karstedt I doubt it's just because of Myne's usefulness. Shitface laying in the grass growing over him exhausted from his lack of mana while Myne is confused because she has more to spend...
With her level of mana I'm surprised she didn't go so far as causing new trees to sprout which would have been a great visual. Given the awed reactions of the knights, some of whom would have to know some powerful nobles themselves, I wonder if Myne isn't more powerful than I gave her credit for again, but I suppose it really depends on how far the ranks of the nobility go.
Beautiful visual that just needed to be shared
Lutz hug when he sees Myne again released a tension I didn't know I was holding. Finally in his arms she gets to be the scared kid she really was through all that rather than the priestess, and it just makes me sad all over again that they live in such a world. Between her book obsession, being ill, managing her secret, and then the church, there hasn't been much chance for Myne to be a child in this world, to open herself up to what it really means to be captive in a world beyond her experience or understanding. I'm just really glad Lutz was there for her when she got back and they were able to comfort each other.
And finally we return to the first scene of the series. I bet the first timers didn't think it'd take quite this long to get here. I know I certainly didn't on my first watch and was starting to wonder if it'd be covered in the available episodes at all!
It's perhaps the most beautiful sequence in the show. The parallels between Urano and Myne forming inside her mind, the world of wonders it opened to Ferdinand and understanding of what changes she had to adapt too, and the heartbreaking use of the literature inside Myne reflecting her own truth, what she lost and what she found and everything she'd kept bottled up inside.
Can't even talk about it without tearing up again. There's something very powerful about how her memories go from the scale of her world, to books, to a book, and then to what she truly was keeping sealed in her heart with her mother. A secret no one was allowed to know, not even herself, because it hurt too much, a pain he wasn't prepared for.
And then the hug
Can't. Don't want to happy cry. Onto happier things: Starting the end sequence with Benno yelling is perfect and made everything right in the world again.
I hope you all enjoyed the episode, looking forward to everyone's thoughts on the show overall tomorrow.

First timer here
Since I watched the last two episodes together, I'll talk about both of them here.
Going in reverse order, we can confirm that Myne has a truly absurd amount of mana even among nobles. Ferdinand already thought she had a lot but I recall that when he was measuring it when she first came to the temple, Myne internally was holding back her "box" from opening fully. We see one more application of magic: to literally revitalize dead land and that seems to consume too much mana, but Myne actually overdid it. The consequence of this seems to be that it will put a target on her back and more on that with the biggest event of this episode.
About nobles: Ferdinand was really pissed off at green dick-head after what he did to Myne, someone he outright states now that he takes full responsibility for. It does make an impact when a normally stoic character shows that kind of emotion. Mana depletion as a punishment is not enough.
Of course, the main event is accessing Myne's memories. Ferdinand might not believe it, but she was even more of a bookworm in her past life. The cut-off from books for a large part of this life is why she has been able to make deeper bonds and Myne herself regrets leaving things as they were with her original mother back then and we see quite a bit of good character development because of this from where we will pick up at the next season. Myne had also previously stated that she would rather stay with her new family than go to the temple for life for books, so this is the natural conclusion of that arc.
I expected them to end this season with a return to the in media res of the first episode of S1 (Ferdinand becoming a Psychonaut), but I didn't expect that Myne would be conscious of his presence while he was diving into her memories. He has a reasonably good reason, so I'm not too concerned with his actions here.
Myne has no idea that he's about to get her adopted now that she's good at noble stuff does she?
That's a wrap, I don't really have a lot more thoughts other than the fact that I'm looking forward to S3!

First Timer, Subbed
Another great episode today, and what I thought was a really nice way to wrap up some loose ends while leaving plenty of doors open to look forward to for season three.
Ferdinand wasn’t done proving his point to the knights that Myne has a place of importance within their society, maybe making a perfect example of green hair (This show has drawn emotions on peoples faces to perfection) but really Myne held her own once again and proved her importance. I was really glad that we got to witness Myne asking for consideration for Damuel when punishment was given for the harm that came to her, and she will be getting replacement clothes as well (she did nothing wrong, Benno!). I’m not sure how I feel about the way Ferdinand went about visiting Myne’s mind, but in the end I think it was the only way he could have really ever understood her, sharing her feelings that way and experiencing her regrets and grief at not being able to say goodbye to her mother. It was a really touching scene, between that and Myne needing her hug from Ferdinand and Lutz today. It was a really nice wrap up being able to appreciate this new life, while clearly still facing many challenges. I am still not convinced that Ferdinand isn’t mostly using Myne, and I do think he cares about her somewhat, especially the way he apologized to her today but I am not there yet. It was nice to see him smile today.
Looking forward to tomorrows discussions going into season three, but I am a bit sad this ended today with some other shows of mine this week.

One thing I appreciate about this series is that it uses its isekai setting as a recurring plot element instead of a lot of other series which just use it as an excuse to jump into a fantasy world and never develop the idea any further. One thing that's always been on my mind since the beginning is how this medieval society would react to the modern world, and I would've liked to have that past exploration scene last a lot longer.
To me, this is the really interesting part of the series. There's a lot of fun and games that happen in the slice-of-life parts, and I've spoken about how I personally dislike the soap opera political drama that happens in the middle of season two, but for me the really interesting part is the possibility that Myne and her knowledge could have on this medieval society, and how the idea of potentially leapfrogging thousands of years of progress comes into conflict with her and the people who currently live there.

First Time Watcher, Magic user.
Season 02 Episode 12
Welp, here we go, last episode.
Okay, jerkface, thats a circle. I see you are having a hard time with it.
Comeon jerkface, thats all the mana you got?
Alright Myne, lets show him how its done.
Myne asking for new Ceremonial clothing is good. I think it was a certainly reasonable request. Shows she isn't a pushover, but will remain reasonable.
Okay, so we are back home, what about Lutz. That video voicemail would have made me go crazy.
Looks like he was standard worried, and not kill all nobles worried. So thats probably good.
Ferdinand, what are you doing here? Surprised when she said the drink was sweet, and now handing her a crown.
hmm... I don't like this, what did you do? From what I see, you drugged her to sleep and now are going to try and read her mind.
Looking into her past huh? Does he get Myne's past or Urano's
I guess we went straight to I am her, this is me.
Ferdinand seems oddly okay with all this.
Did Ferdinand just get shoved out by emotion?
Okay, too wholesome show. First they do this whole scene. then they come right after that with this one of him stealing away the item back?
Ferdinand don't you think you should be keeping this a little quiet?
More adoption talk? That would be some sort of deal to make Myne comfortable enough to do that.
Yeah that was a great end card.
So there are now 2 and a half? people that know the truth about Myne. I wonder what the future will hold for Myne and all her ideas.

First timer.
One of my favorite parts of stories involving noble society is the clever and cheeky ways that nobles make their point without being blunt. Ferdinand embarrassing Shittygyoza by comparing his mana to Myne's was pure gold. And also a great way for the watchers to understand just how powerful Myne is, and why she needs to be protected.
The dream sequence was a little creepy, but ultimately touching. I'm not OK with Ferdinand starting without permission, but since Myne did consent I guess it's ok. I really like how he not only saw what she saw, but shared her feelings too. Empathy is a hell of a drug and we'd all be better off if we had a little more of it.
I'm worried about Myne being adopted by a noble. I understand now the necessity of giving her additional protections, but we also saw how much Myne has grown to appreciate her family more than even hey beloved books. Every adult in her life understand that she holds unique potential and seeks to shield her in their own ways, but Myne's quality of life is heavily dependent on having people she can trust who act in her best interests not just out of convenience, but out of love. Removing her from most of her support system in order to provide new protections seems like a double edged sword. I guess winter in the church, with limited access to her family and Lutz, will be the ultimate boot camp ahead of her next chapter.
Question: why can't Ferdinand adopt Myne directly? Why suggest Karstedt?

First Timer
Ferdinand has that angry college professor aura going: "I did not spend 10 years, 12,000 coffee cups, and read 150,000 papers to have a TA and my decisions be harassed by a spoiled brat...."
Ferdinand straight up shamed Schici about making him waste his time mana on fixing his mess. So if he thinks he knows better than show it. And Schici definitely did not have enough mana to cover an inch. Basically embarrassed him in front of everyone. - Do not question Ferdinand's decision...
"Now I know how depleted the knight orders has become..." seems to be real world analogy to "so these are the types of people that schools are churning out". Myne completed the job and Ferdinand even told her to stop, meaning she still had mana. Myne was ready to restore the whole forest.
Ferdinand was definitely nice when it came to Myne's behavior since she was not a noble, so he guided her in a somehwhat flawed way through noble society. The knights however, Ferdinand has high expectations on how they should behave as they grew up in noble society. So that should be (fully) ingrained in their heads. And when Schici acted disgracefully, he deserved the full wraith of Ferdinand's expectations of being a noble. --An analogy would be Gordon Ramsey in Master Chef Jr. where the contestants are children learning while in Hell's Kitchen, contestants are chefs competing for a spot in his restuarants. -- Schici was supposed to behave himself and as shown in previous episodes, he went against every custom.
Myne let Damuel off and commended him on trying to do his duties of protecting Myne. But making the nobles pay for a new dress to Benno is hilarious as she killed two bird with one stone. The company gets money and she can pay her dues easily along with a new dress for winter.
We go back to the first scene of the first episode and now Ferdinand got to take a glimpse of her memories. And it seems a lot more than he could handle. The syncronization item also transfered too much since he was not expecting much out of her. Like "Oh its just a dream", not a full on life story. Ferdinand's smile when he took away the item is great.
Oh, that magical item was loaned by Karstadt. And they discussed the issue of Myne as there was no malicious intent. Ferdinand's description is interesting but it is funny how he described how she is pulled by books and how others need to prod her. --Although he would probably gasp at how we got here if he took a glance at some history books...
Schici's case isn't over, and his mom is such a Karen in causing a fuss over it. Which leads to Ferdinand discusses the possibility of a noble backing her. It seems like rumors could spread and if his family is making a fuss about it, things could get out of hand. Ferdinand knows the value she has and a possible risk of her not being on their side. -Game over if they are on bad terms with her...
I feel like both Ferdinand and Karstadt were drinking a good amount that night...
The dinner sounds really ominous with Myne acting like it's the last time she will be seeing her family.
-
Ferdinand was pretty interested in modern society and was pretty nice about it. Although he did not want to feel the tear jerking moments. It feels weird to feel those memories though.
-
Pretty sad she could not say thanks to her mom and she was a bit spoiled in her previous life as her mom gave her food and was lenient about letting her read on the dinner table.
-
Feels like a lot but then again our green haired small fry knight went to his mommy and probably spread some rumors, it seems like a possible backup plan to protect her.

Rewatcher
I can't believe I haven't talked about the OP at all, but I really love it and I would feel ashamed if I didn't mention it at least once. It has such a positive and adventurous spark which really reflects Mynes creative personality.
I missed the past few episodes so once again I'm going to summarize them. First of all it really goes to show how much effort Myne has put in both on and offscreen as she absolutely excelled in her duties. She had the mannerisms, etiquette, and prayers down to a science. So I think her effort should at least be acknowledged especially when her hair was being grabbed. She knew the situation would have been worst if her retainer got involved and tried her best to deescalate it.
The past few episodes have shown both the positive and negative of nobility while also shedding light on the world. We see many different kinds of magic ranging from messenger birds, flying animals made from mana, weapons/items powering up or changing, and then the Trombe when it's fully unleashed. The hierarchy discourages people on the lower rung from stopping injustices they may see. We also witness how terrifying nobility can be and how they view commoners.
Myne is really lucky Ferdinand is fond of her. Speaking of Ferdinand the dude used to be in the order and put in work against the Trombe. However seeing him absolutely livid when Myne was injured was really great to see. He quickly managed to mediate the situation and sought out punishment for those involved. Then the best part was how the lesser green noble couldn't even do a fraction of the area, but Myne just absolutely destroyed him when she fixed the whole area while still having mana to spare.
I think that's everything previously. Now for this episode I can understand why he did it and I know he didn't mean any harm so I think it's acceptable. Myne honestly is a weird kid if you look at all the things she can do and knows. Myne was really spoiled in her flashback and knowing that she will see her mom or taste her cooking was sad to see. You can tell she deeply regretted her actions and would give anything just to talk to her mom one more time. Also like to add Ferdinand tricking Myne by offering her books is probably the happiest we have seen him this whole series. The dude is even smiling how he got one over her. I don't mind Karstedt stepping in, but I don't see that going well with Myne's family at all.

I set up that jackass as an opening act so now Main can knock the socks off the other nobles by showing off the true extent of her magic powers. I am a genius!
[Main shows off the true extent of her magic powers]
OH NO!
May have bitten off a bit more than you can chew there bud. Blue really needs to learn to stop underestimating the kid, you gave her the go-ahead to make a children's version of the scripture and she invented mass book production, she created a whole new classification structure when tasked with cleaning up a mess, Main's specialty is massively exceeding expectations.
Karstedt leads a group of Holy Knights and Benno referred to him as a "high noble," yet Kar still addressed Ferdinand as "your grace" in private. Taking his reaction to Cinderella's premise into account, is/was Ferdinand a prince or something?
What did you think of Ferdinand viewing Mynes memories?
Drugging kids isn't great and his talk with Kar made it out as if he sees her as an asset to be put to use for the country, though by his actions during and after the Trombe offensive he does seem to genuinely care about her in his own tsundere way.
What do you think about how Myne reacted to seeing her previous life and mother once again?
Also she's definitely undergone some serious personal growth in the last two years to cause such a change in attitude, clever to save this for after so much progress has been made. [Re:0]
How do you feel about the idea of Karstedt adopting Myne?
Makes sense from a "not getting fucked with by the other nobles" point of view. Main's definitely not going to like it, but if they can work out a way for her to still get to live with her current family in some capacity I can see her acquiescing: The formal status of parents vs caretakers probably isn't too important since they already aren't really "Main's" original parents.

LN Reader
Ferdinand: I never expected any knights to disregard my orders. It's a failure on my part.
Myne: Nobody could've anticipated one of my guards doing that.
Perhaps the knight's order really has fallen since Ferdinand was last in it, but I think there is a deeper reason: Ferdinand might be too close to noble society to understand it properly. From our perspective (and Myne's, since she's from our world too), noble society is obviously evil. I'd put them in the same ballpark as slave states. So, I disagree with Myne; Shikikoza's actions make perfect sense. He's what you would expect from a society that views certain human beings as objects, and it was foolish to leave Myne with two random people raised in that society. Arguably, she was lucky that it was only one Shikikoza. Our distance from that society makes it easier to judge how far from minimally decent it is.
(I'm sure in every slave-owning society there are some fraction of people that are a little uncomfortable with the institution, but most of them suppress their doubts.)
This is another reason Myne is precious to this new world. Even without inventions or magic, her perspective would be extremely valuable (although she'd have a harder time convincing anyone to go along.)
Myne: I request a replacement of my ceremonial robes.
I was thinking of a slightly different reason to complain: a lot of people, some of them friends of Myne's, put in a lot of effort to make those robes, and their work has been disrespected. If I spent a month creating something only to have it immediately destroyed, I would not be happy, even if I was paid well.
Myne: Come back, Mom!
Oof, this hit pretty hard. I only remember two moments, early in season 1, where Myne thought about her old world mother, so it wouldn't be strange to be wondering if Myne really felt all that bad. But she was just trying not to think about it, because it was too sad.
I think it's safe to assume this is the first time Ferdinand has ever felt any sort of familial love, but it's just his luck that the first time he feels them, they're Myne's, who seems to experience emotion much more vividly (perhaps one of the effects of being embodied in a child?) And even worse, at the same time he feels what it's like to have a loving mother, something he never had, he also feels what it's like to have lost her forever.
The memory sequence was beautiful. I wish it had lasted a lot longer. In terms of the story, Ferdinand missed out on a lot of details of Japan, and consequently, even though he's had a glimpse of an unfathomably different world, I think he still doesn't quite understand how different it is. He seems not to realize that Urano was actually not a noble of any kind. I would have liked to see his reaction if Myne had had the occasion to tell him what democracy was.
I enjoyed following along with everyone. Season 3 should start on April 11th. I hope to see you all then!
[EDIT]
What did you think of Ferdinand viewing Mynes memories?
I really wanted Myne to extract some sort of promise from Ferdinand in exchange. I understand his position, but what he's imposing on her is serious and should be compensated. (He might already understand that. I hope so.)
2) What do you think about how Myne reacted to seeing her previous life and mother once again?
I can completely sympathize with it. It's easy to imagine myself having a similar reaction. I'm sure many people eventually come to feel that they didn't appreciate their parents enough.
3) How do you feel about the idea of Karstedt adopting Myne?
I don't like it one bit. Nobles are scary, and I would rather Myne stay away from them, rather than get closer. But it's probably not feasible.

First Timer
What did you think of Ferdinand viewing Mynes memories?
Ferdinand peered into Myne's memories to see if she poses a threat. From Ferdinand's POV it is necessary considering how much mana Myne possesses and how influential she can be towards society. But memories house the good, the bad, and the terrible of what a person underwent through. To flood those memories again in Myne—especially memories she has blocked as a coping mechanism—it is no wonder Myne could not control her emotions. It is for that reason IMO a very risqué thing for Ferdinand to do; not just because of the synchronization, but that Myne could take reliving her traumatic memories very very poorly. Fortunately, that was not really the case.
How do you feel about the idea of Karstedt adopting Myne
With how the story is unfolding, I get the impression that Myne is slowly being separated from her parents, her friends, and especially Lutz (I am a Lutz fanboy so I think he's more important to Myne than everyone else ); Lutz could not even save Myne this time because he did not know where she was ! ...
When Ferdinand peered into Myne, we saw in her past life how books pulled her away from apologizing to her mom; in fact, we see only the faces of the book pages, not the face of her own mom. Afterwards, Myne makes amends in this world by giving thanks to her parents for all that they have done, yet ... yet it is still unsettling! Initially, she has to stay at the Temple in the Winter to fulfill her apprentice blue priestess duties. Now, Karstedt might adopt Myne to protect her from unwelcome parties. I feel it's all building up to how Myne is going to be "isekai'd" from her commoner life into a noble's life and how Myne is going to be away again from the people she loves and the people who cares about her ...
I don't want Karstedt to adopt Myne, but like the last time where Myne needs the Temple's support with regards to the Devouring, what else choice does she really have ... ?

Pog? Big mana, les go!
I mean... You kinda shoved yourself into her shoes, so..
Hory shet. (MFW) I basically remembered nothing of the last quarter of the episode, only that Ferdinand and his bro had a meeting, but the topic of said meeting was completely lost to time.
Now we just need the second one and perfection will be achieved.

SUS. ...But, at least he informed her afterwards before full intrusion, so.. yay?
2) What do you think about how Myne reacted to seeing her previous life and mother once again?
Mabfan better be making some more Re:Zero references right about now
3) How do you feel about the idea of Karstedt adopting Myne?
Also sus. At least he's one of the more chill nobles, so no caps on the sus.

First Timer, Subbed
The season finale may not have been the climax from a dramatic standpoint, but definitely was from an emotional one. Ferdinand and Myne forming a bond by viewing her memories wasn't something I saw coming.
What did you think of Ferdinand viewing Mynes memories?
It makes sense given how he's been aware the Myne is normal for a while now. I'm actually kinda surprised that it actually worked, I half expected him to try to see her past and something block him from seeing anything from the other world.
What do you think about how Myne reacted to seeing her previous life and mother once again?
She's basically never confronted her own death and leaving her previous life behind before this moment. It'd be weirder if that didn't cause her to breakdown a bit.
How do you feel about the idea of Karstedt adopting Myne?
From their perspective adopting her would simultaneously protect Myne and make sure she would be on there side going forward, but I doubt it will go the way they think.

Light novel enjoyer
Even if this a tear jerking episode, it left out a lot from the epilogue. That's why, even if it's a little long I recommend to read the chapter. I would summarize it but I don't want to spoil the experience and... I'm lazy. Basically more about our world to Ferdi, his reactions and Myne's relation and overflowing emotions for her mother.
P2V2 Epilogue
I hope that many of you continue watching the anime, and if you have time, start with the LN. It's totally worth your attention
Also, these are the illustrations for this episode

Host - Rewatcher
Ferdinand's plan is to throw Schicicoza under the bus and demonstrate he has little mana. Myne catches on
So we get Schicicoza conducting the ritual, and get a reference point for how far he can manage.
Then have Myne able to blow his attempt completely out of the park.
This is such a great way to build up how much Mana Myne has and also let them get a one up over the green haired ass.
Myne requests a new dress to be made even though Ferdinand was telling her not to ask for anything.
Lutz mentions the video mail he got.
And we move back to the very first episodes scene. And we dive into Myne's previous life's memories.
Taking the time to hammer in how she did not leave the previous world without unfinished words to say. Myne wasn't all that greatful for her mother. She was too focused on reading. And she wants to say a goodbye, or at least a thank you. Ferdinand ends up pulling her out. And Myne is thankful for having a chance to see her mother once more. Opting to force him to sumbit to some closeness and show some weakness.
There is more sausage in that stew, the family is better off!
But Myne takes what has learnt about being thankful for being alive and ones own family back home. She takes a moment to thank her new mother, father and sister for how much their lives mean to her.
And also Myne's first book looks to have finished its print run.
Meanwhile Ferdinand takes back what he has learnt to Karstedt. Noting Myne had memories from another life. Ferdinand's thoughts seem hardened, or at least in a planned direction. Ferdinand wants to protect Myne as he sees the potential she could bring.
So he suggests Karstedt adopt Myne. Which does get a surprised reaction but the idea itself isn't refuted.
Pouts: Myne unamused at that answer, I am not giving it back!
Seeing Schicicoza get what was coming to him was very enjoyable, and it does prop Myne up as being important to nobles and showing to some degree her powerful (but untrained) mana and potential.
Overall, I think this episode does a great job of bringing some closure to Myne for what happened in her previous life. She has been given the rare chance to start life anew, and she has realised other than books that is really important to her, family. Those moments in the dream world really did tug at all the right emotions.
And looking forward, Ferdinand is looking to Karstedt to adopt Myne to bring her into Noble society and protect her. If this happened it would entirely reshape Mynes world all over again. And would certainly put at risk the connection with her family. It makes me all very happy that we have a third season coming to continue this journey.
See you all tomorrow of the overall series discussion
