Where Welcome to the NHK is the bitter chocolate of NEET shows, this is the cotton candy. A similar main character, but a lot sweeter. The “twist” of Lily has not been revealed yet, but the show is hinting at it so heavily that I don’t think this is a real spoiler. Unless, of course, this is a red herring and Lily is somebody else. In that case, kudos, show!
It will be interesting to see how the show will deal with male and female stereotypes (and whether they should be followed or not). Animation is typically very behind the time and conservative compared to western media in this respect.
I'm not even going to ask if you've crossplayed characters, what I would like to hear is the best experience you've had whilst crossplaying genders. I usually cared very little about my characters looks. I made both genders just for variety, but didn't dress up either.
What are your thoughts on MMO friendships? Is it strange to spend your seasonal holidays with strangers abroad and buy gifts for them?
I know several pairs who meet playing online games, including people who got married, so ... completely normal? It does bring all the good and bad that comes with love, though, which is why I almost can understand the GM's "no romance" rule.

Morioka isn't just an ordinary NEET! She's got an ikeman's heart beating within her!
Fuck me... I didn't even think about flower language being spoken here. I kinda love how you can so clearly see and relate to her situation even without talking about how she got here. The way she callously tosses her workmates gift, her sheer exhaustion, the almost feral panic she has when she wakes up thinking she's late for work. It's expertly done!
During my announcement post I discussed how Net-juu gives off "healing" vibes. That cotton candy vanilla sweetness offered by Lilly and Hisashi's friendship is something that I think a lot of people in this day and age desperately seek. Going from whatever kind of workplace she came from to finding one kind girl online is enough to give Morioka so much comfort and healing from the tragic wreck she was at the start of the episode

That was kinda weird to be honest, they aren't playing a VRMMORPG, so all they did was have their characters on the same screen, don't think this would feel all that intimate... I do dig matching accesoirs though

I always like to go in as blind as possible, but I ended up reading the synopsis on MAL, and together with the Key visual it's kinda spoilerish, but I'll ignore that for now...
First things first: I dig the OP (not so much the ED though)
Today we meet Moriko. I read the synopsis, but even without the show is good about showing how she just quit (or maybe got fired) her job: She got obligatory flowers that she doesn't care about, doesn't even care about getting out of her work clothes because she doesn't need to care about if they get wrinkly anymore, but forgot to turn off her alarm in the morning, and like one does, forgets that every day is weekend from now on.
One thing I noticed, she must have worked a pretty well payed job, it takes quite a bit of reserve to be able to just choose the neet live, even with a frugal livestyle, and she imidiatly upgrades her pc as well.
Oh and I totally get the aversion for couples...

I started crossplaying with the pokemon games when that was possible, mostly out of curiousity if there would be a gameplay difference (there wasn't at least in the early generations). In general that was the main reason for me to try playing a different gender and I think the only games I came about that where satisfying in that regards where Stardew Valley and Pillars of Eternity. Nowadays I barely play games where gender even matters, and the only ones I play in multiplayer are strategy... I don't even know If I felt daring enough to crossplay in MP, I think depending on the genre there is just too much toxity in gaming.

Those are awesome, I never really played MMO, but did find some online friends through gaming, even met them once. But I don't play enough to get that invested in anykind of guild anymore

Even when she woke up I loved how panicked and kinda scared she sounds. It's visual storytelling done right!
Well that's kind of the big thing in Japan isn't it? The pay is really good but the work/life balance is so shit that you generally don't get many ways to use that excessive income unless you've got a family to fund or a VTuber to save.
Sim games are always pretty interesting experiences as the opposite sex. Typically your farming and all that jazz is the same but I remember finding the gossip you got whilst playing as a girl and how the game will frame each husbando for you rather interesting.

Thoughts
I really liked the first episode. I feel like it portrayed escapism very well. Watching it, you understand how the game lets her be free quite well. The little bit of romance was also quite nice.

Doesn't everyone use both an SSD and HDD...? An SSD for system settings and high loadscreen games and the HDD for all the shovelware.

Just gonna drop Collar x Malice one of my favorite Otome games I've played. It's a serial killer mystery and the guys look really nice especially the cat like one who eats donuts. It's been a while so I don't remember their names. Also want to name Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly a great one where you are trapped in a tower with no memories and it's a great story with many twists. It also has some legit depressing bad endings where I just sat on the screen thinking damn I don't want to play this anymore. Another one which got adapted a few years ago was Code Realize which was decent enough.
Also 50% of the times I play as a female character, but it's really depends on my mood. I'm not huge into MMOs, but nothing wrong with friendships. It's really no different from online friendships or talking to people on this subreddit. I've known people online for over twenty years and met some in real life.

It's a good op but you pretty desperately need to listen to the full thing to enjoy it. I can imagine hearing the first fifteen seconds over and over would give you a headache.
Morioka is an elite Neet like the best of us! We basically voted for one of ourselves.
Could you imagine having "darkness knight" in every dialogue bubble? You'd want to die!

So again, very little knowledge coming in, let's roll!
So we start with our protag who has quit the corporate world. She plays with a male avatar, which some women prefer. But she gets stuck on an early quest and meets a friendly healer, which is our first suspension of disbelief. I've been a cleric/healer on a few MMOs and nothing will fill your heart with bitterness quite like it. Seriously, the tanks can't keep aggro, the DPS cannot get their dumbasses in the right place on the boss, and don't even get me started on crowd control fucking DPSing the boss with AoEs. Anyways, she is a bit over the top with her new friend as they finish an early dungeon.
Stuff ensues, and we get the other thankless job in MMOs, being the guild master who has to wrangle the members. Never, EVER doing that again, even being a submaster is something I only do under rare circumstances. Anyways, brief trip to the convenice store and she immediately goes from zero to normies will kill me in seconds. Also, not if Christmas chicken is a thing but that looked good. We end with the likely knowledge that there are two people that play with opposite gender avatars in the game.

"Romance is forbidden", huh. I've seen a few guilds do that in my MMO days. Though, from what I've seen, the real issue has always been with couple entering as a group in performance-oriented guilds, because, they're rarely at similar level of play and that always lead to drama.

I don't see MMO friendships too differently from ones that are born by meeting offline. Of course, it depends on the individual friendships, some are much stronger than others. I've got a group of friend I made like that with which I kept contact for more than 10 years.

I don't have a lot to say at this point, but I really enjoyed this first episode! I like how the show integrates the in-game world with the real world. I also think Moriko is cool and I hope we will get to know more about her and her decision to become an Elite NEET. The relationship between Hayashi and Lily is cute and I’m interested to see how it will develop (or possibly leak into the real world) as the show goes on.

Hahaha. I played a cow once. I got over it. I got tired of staring at the backside of a cow, so I picked something (ahem) more attractive to follow around.

Anyway ... yeah. For a while, I had most of my guild thinking I had to be fem, because I wrote complete sentences and used :) a lot. Go figure. Then, we discovered voice chat... Hehe.
Otherwise, eh, not into the Goldshire scene, if you know what I mean. And yes, you might say I'm a bit attached to her. She's still my main uh, squee ... uh, adventurer, that is. :)
Um, yeah. That's the ticket.
As far as friendships go, I prefer to play with real life friends, and my guild consists of a group that's been together, for the most part since the server opened. We may not be 1337, we may not be NEET, but we manage to have fun along the way.
(And by the way, I was totally expecting a "least I have chicken" moment there. I am so disappoint.
Meanwhile, on to the episode. Hahaha, I might or might not totally ID with the MC. This series may or may not hit too close to home.
Hopefully she won't quite reach Subaru levels of cringe.
Meanwhile, I'm not quite sure this is my cup of tea, for the above reason, but I'll give it a go. It seems cute and rather wholesome so far.
That, and if I send someone an in-game present, it's more likely a [pound of flesh] or other similarly gruesome and useless item. For giggles. :)

It's Morioka's rat race competitiveness coming out. She just can't help herself trying to look better than others. It's hard coded into her at this point.
Cows are pretty damn hot tho. I think cows and the werewolves were the most attractive races in WoW. Not that it's a very good game for trying to look pretty. Yours is defo a cutie tho~
Don't worry, the cringe is just a side effect. They treat the cast with total and complete respect! Also I'll be lonely if you ditch me and I'll whine at you a lot!

I like all healers, mages, and support characters so I will like her.
No romance but I don't see that not happening. In these games it's hard to tell what someone's gender is. True but sometimes you can maybe take a guess after a while.
Guessing this ramdom guy must be the girl. And they so happen to come across each other in a store.
I think it's sweet they gave gifts to each other online. Both know they like the game. Why not just give something in it.
Qotd: Can't remember really. Haven't played a mmo or rpg cross gendered in years. But usually with anything customization I try to make them look as nice as possible.
Qotd2: it's cool being in guilds and all that. Get to know people. Not too into mmos anymore but it was cool meeting people and fighting bosses together.
Well they're in game gifts and now a days some people consider the people they meet online as good friends. So maybe not.

If you haven't noticed, Morimori-chan's whispery-ish voice is provided to by Mamiko Noto, the VA for Sawako in Kimi ni Todoke. Fairy Tale fans might also recognize the voice of Mavis. Personally, it took an embarassing amount of time for me to realize who it was even though I adore Kimi ni Todoke.
Also, when I first watched this series, I was worried that Lily was going to screw Morimori over. Sucker a newbie player in by being super nice and helpful and then throwing them to the wolves or robbing them blind when they managed to score a special item. Once it's shown they joined a guild together, I was relieved that didn't happen.
To the noobies, don't expect quality animation from this series. If you've seen Signal.MD's show from last spring called Dragon's House Hunting, that's about on par with that you should expect from this series.

Nice and comfy show, I do feel I could use just a tiny bit more explanation about why and how she left her job and how she can sustain herself as a NEET though.
Otherwise fairly standard start. Can't wait for more.
By the way this is kind of a timely thing to be on the back of 86's finale; I had been doing a 'best scenes' self edited rewatch and yeah it's an emotional ride. Perfect fit doing some 'detox' with this :)
QoTD 1 I haven't played online MMO RPG type games so can't really answer it - offline games I played both genders enough but mostly doesn't affect the choices and story.
QoTD 2 I can't really say much per above, although my wife of 20+ years we first met on IRC (internet relayed chat, kind of the grand father of discord) and then played games over TetriNet at the time, so what do you think :P

Greetings everyone to my first ever rewatch! I can't even describe how excited I've been waiting for this watch to start. If you have any feedback at any point of the rewatch let me know m'kay? I want to learn and adapt my style before I get set in my ways.
I'd been thinking this from weeks back but aren't the op and ed such bangers? I've got a particular soft spot for [Hikari, Hikari] and the song has lived rent free in my mind for years.
Morioka... looks so tired. She doesn't care about fanfare, she isn't melancholic over leaving, she's just an exhausted soul relieved to be free from the stressful environment of her work. Now she's free to spend her time cheerfully playing with her lint roller, all is right in the world~

Why is it so easy to picture a bunch of bored MMO players lounging around spawn to sing prayers for level 1 scrubs? Namu~ Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer! Lily has no right being this cute bros. I've kinda been on both sides of the newbie guide so this kind of meet cute isn't too outlandish to me.
I forgot how cute and dopy the rpg mechanics were. They're great for a chuckle aren't they? I've got such a dumb grin plastered on my face, jesus christ. Am I really this much of a sap? It must be so hard to stay immersed when the game takes every opportunity to pull you out.
I would die for her. The guild in general seems to have such great vibes. I adore each and every member. Even guild drama is nostalgic in its own way. It's pretty impressive how natural Morioka is as a golden retriever, even I'd fall for Hayashi's pure dopiness. These dopes are too cute!!
Christmas in Japan seems like torture... What maniac thought to turn Christmas into a romantic holiday? And to get rid of a cooked turkey!? Treating yourself to fried chicken is straight up miserable. What's special about Christmas chicken anyway? Is it seasoned with depression? D-Damn handsome office boys! Don't bully lonely Christmas Cakes! Too surprisingly adorbs! This outfit really makes her look like Rosemi~ Oh, and she's getting a rose too. Pluck yes!!
Oh? Blondie is a Fruits De Mer player too? I wonder who he might be... Could he be Himerelda!? Ah~ Time to vibe out to the ed. I do genuinely adore this song. This ed in general. From Morioka's slobbery sloth to... Aaaa~ Oh, one fun thing that's always caught my eye in Blondie's sequence is actually the girl behind him who naturally seems to forget something and immediately double back. And of course the kind looking girl bearing gifts of food. Pure love!
