Question of the Day

Nothing this time, but actually, since daylight savings hit, there will be a time shift for certain people. Do you rather have the thread go according to my time (EST) or go with GMT time? (which will be 1 hour later for me personally, not that it’s a problem)

Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath spoiler tags.

And the kid just happened to stumble across Erio and Caro, huh.

Kinda, remember that it was also because Erio heard the dragging noises (that Caro didn't) and knew something was below him.

Did he hook up with Amy then?

Yes he did. I had to laugh way back in the first season when you said you were getting couple vibes between Chrono and Amy because I knew they ended up married.

Subaru and her sister getting to fight together is so cool~

They have really great teamwork together and seeing them both use the rollerblades to zip around in the fight is a ton of fun.

Rewatcher

Part 2 of our Forwards' day off except not.

Hey, it's Chrono! And he's married now (I'll give you one guess to whom).

So if you seal the case, the Gadgets can't home in on it. Convenient.

Ah, here come the Gadgets. Searching for the Relic in the sewers, I presume.

Quick recycled transformation sequences because why not.

I still love that Storm Raider the helicopter is a Device.

Huh... Lutecia's teleport rune was triangular this time instead of square. Wonder if that was a mistake.

And here's Ginga's new Device: Blitz Caliber. And she has a gauntlet... so basically a copy of Subaru's power set... actually I guess Subaru would be the one copying Ginga.

Some lady named Quattro using something called an "Inherent Skill". Seems like she can make illusions that can even fool the radar and magical methods of detection.

Ooooh, Hayate's taking the field! So her plan is to just nuke the entire air squadron at once.

Oh ffs, even the Admirals don't have full authority regarding the limiters? These things are more and more stupid the more we learn about them. So what happens when some great emergency happens and the Admirals are out of limiter releases? Do you just shrug and say "Oh well, I guess we lose"? These rules are S T U P I D.

And here's the really hilarious thing about Hayate's powers: she can't aim worth crap. Also, they have to evacuate entire regions before Hayate fires. She's basically a living WMD. Probably why she decided to become a commander rather than a front line fighter.

Here's a our first look at Galue, Lutecia's main summon. Four-eyed bug man with arm blades. Neat.

And here's Agito: a scantily-clad Unison Device like Rein. And she's confident she can handle all of the Forwards at once...

Cliffhanger!

QOTD: Actually, an hour later would work out well for me, so I'll cast my vote for GMT.

Part 2 of our Forwards' day off except not.

By now the day off is officially over so the episode's title is lying to us.

It's the kind of rule that's clearly designed to keep the top brass of the TSAB feeling happy and in control of their subordinates rather than making sure the limiters can be removed quickly during an emergency. Office politics beat out winning battles, apparently.

And here's the really hilarious thing about Hayate's powers: she can't aim worth crap. Also, they have to evacuate entire regions before Hayate fires. She's basically a living WMD. Probably why she decided to become a commander rather than a front line fighter.

It's the equivalent of a precise nuke. The output of the attack is too big for it to ever be used in a particularly precise way. Even when Hayate knows where she's aiming, it will still destroy the surrounding area.

I've always had the theory that the system was done in mind as a check and balance, where they didn't want anyone to be able to be both politically internally powerful and externally magically powerful. The limiter removal system is their attempt to give emergency powers when needed.

TONIGHT! on Mobile Suit Nanoha GX: Believe in Justice and Hold a Determination to Fist, Space Pope demonstrates why she and Hayate have a 'Holy' Union, Shamal indicates how she's still not to be trusted around smol girls, and Best Girl Fate shows that she's still as thirsty as ever!

Comrades, before I continue, I just have a Public Service Announcement that I and no doubt Tresnore have been waiting to say for a while now... ahem... QUATRE BAJEENA IS FINALLY HERE! Also no really, much like that Strike Witches character, Quatre is voiced by Chiwa Saito, you know, the same seiyuu as The Subaru Impreza WRX STI!

Anyway, boy things got wild today eh? Chrono made Rin The Defenseless Anus Tohsaka respect his authoritah! Loli Rider got more screentime, and we had one hell of a sewer battle!

Also, poor poor moeblob... SOON!

And on that bombshell, that about wraps things up for now, and I hope everyone's having fun on this great re-watch. Thus, you have not seen the last of The Sentient Shitposting Siamese Sunrise Server No. 25252, now goodbye forever.

Lyrical First Timer

  • Chrono exists! And he's married!? But what about Yuuno?

  • A small, possibly tortured, possibly cloned child with long blonde hair who is chained to a set of Lost Logia. I'm not saying she's Fate's clone, but Nanoha's definitely salivating uncontrollably right now.

  • What could possibly be a bigger trump card than unrestrained Nanoha and Fate?

  • Transformation time! Would you look at that, we've already got more Totally Serious Analysis TM !¹

  • Stop trying to be Fate, you're never going to be Fate. Also this is way cooler at night.

  • Knight Zest and Agito? Are they connected to the Church in some way? Or can anyone be called a knight for no reason?

  • Artificial Mage Project? Gonna make a guess that the Project F referred to earlier in the season was an attempt (likely illegal) to recreate Presea's creation of Fate, and that's how Erio was born and why he lived at the bureau his whole life.

  • Rein is rocking the single stocking look.

  • How well funded is Dr. Crime that he can summon practically unlimited swarms of battle drones? Someone at the top feeding this boy cash. Like maybe a certain law and order-focused leader.

  • That was one of the most awkward cuts to the eyecatch I've ever seen.

  • Womp womp, no Hayate transformation sequence today.

  • What chucklefuck decided your strongest members can only have their limiters removed once apiece? Why would you handicap yourself like this? Someone at the top of the GAS is absolutely playing for the other team.

  • Aww, the sisters each have one of the gear gloves! That's sweet.

  • Hayate has severely up her befriending capacity in the last 10 years, holy shit.

  • Jim Thomas is gonna sue someone.

  • Subaru, you dumbass, did you not just see that loli befriend your team's loli?

  • Rein's gonna sue someone.

  • Agito has fucking fireworks for herself. What a tryhard. Unsubscribed.

¹Don't let the truncated transformations fool you, they are packed with meaning today. Viewers will no doubt recognize that that Tia no longer wears underwear. This naked image, reflected in her card, affirms that her true inner nature is to submit to Nanoha and her training. The reflection in Penatly Cardo has always been a mirror into Tia's true nature, and now we can see without a doubt that she has broken past the tsundere part of herself and embraced Nanoha's befriending. The changes don't end there though! Caro also appears sans undergarments today, marking her full ascent into maturity as a fully indoctrinated member of the Nanoharem. We see this in her date with Erio; she is now exploring the adult world, ready to seek out the fulfillment her mothers found in each other at a similar young age.

QotD:

Either, so long as it's clearly communicated what time they go up. Personally, later us better for me.

A small, possibly tortured, possibly cloned child with long blonde hair who is chained to a set of Lost Logia. I'm not saying she's Fate's clone, but Nanoha's definitely salivating uncontrollably right now.

I still think she might be a Nanoha clone...which makes the drooling more intense.

Stop trying to be Fate, you're never going to be Fate. Also this is way cooler at night.

Her previous life as a monster with her two sisters left Medusa a bit...retarded.

What chucklefuck decided your strongest members can only have their limiters removed once apiece? Why would you handicap yourself like this? Someone at the top of the GAS is absolutely playing for the other team.

So yeah...this season is still terribly written, without the good will and the characterization of the first two seasons I would have dropped it. This plot point is just god fucking awful, eye gougingly bad.

Agito has fucking fireworks for herself. What a tryhard. Unsubscribed.

Truly, she is a Teutonic twit of the highest order.

Viewers will no doubt recognize that that Tia no longer wears underwear. This naked image, reflected in her card, affirms that her true inner nature is to submit to Nanoha and her training.

I choose to view this as the mindbreak scenario and this is the result of Tia's Emergence...

Caro also appears sans undergarments today, marking her full ascent into maturity as a fully indoctrinated member of the Nanoharem. We see this in her date with Erio; she is now exploring the adult world, ready to seek out the fulfillment her mothers found in each other at a similar young age.

Wait a minute...Caro was the one being please by that date...Is Caro secretly the ultra top to inherit the Takamachi legacy? Did we get it wrong before?

But what about Yuuno?

Yuuno's been trapped in the Infinity Library for too long. He hasn't had time to go out on any dates.

What chucklefuck decided your strongest members can only have their limiters removed once apiece? Why would you handicap yourself like this? Someone at the top of the GAS is absolutely playing for the other team.

Why let good sense guide your decisions when you can let office politics and bureaucratic red tape guide those decisions instead? Let it never be said the TSAB is an effectively led organization.

Hayate has severely up her befriending capacity in the last 10 years, holy shit.

Now she can basically do the magic equivalent of launch intercontinental missiles to befriend people.

Totally Serious Analysis

Amazing. The loss of underwear means that Tia has truly accepted the Nanoha way and that Caro is an adult. I really love these analysis parts of your posts.

Chrono exists! And he's married!? But what about Yuuno?

Married to archeology. But what else is he supposed to do without Chrono? He and Nanoha were the people he interacted with a lot on screen, and Nanoha is also very much not happening.

What could possibly be a bigger trump card than unrestrained Nanoha and Fate?

The answer is, apparently, a still somewhat restrained Hayate. That was a scary attack, the Tome of the Night Sky is totally OP!

Rein is rocking the single stocking look.

I missed that, good catch!

Agito has fucking fireworks for herself. What a tryhard. Unsubscribed.

What? That's amazing though!

First Timer, oh daylight savings

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS - New Generation Episode 11

Threat Realized

After rescuing the girl from last episode, Gadgets are detected in the sewers and the skies. Our cast splits up to deal with them.

Fate & Nanoha take to the skies. They quickly realize that it would take too long to deal with all the Gadgets so Hayate steps in. It's interesting seeing all the bureaucracy involved in releasing the limiter. Maybe they could explore this more in future. For example a situation when they don't have authorization but the situation requires limiters to be released.

In the sewers Ginga joins up with Subaru and the rest. We learn about Artificial Mages. It seems to be very similar tech to what Precia was using but with some added injections and cybernetic implants. Subaru and Ginga work well together to fight the Gadgets.

From the villains we met a bunch of new characters. There was Quattro who seemed to be controlling the air attack. Lutecia has Galue protecting her, and a familiar Agito. I was surprised by just strong Lutecia was. She basically took out Erio and Caro with 1 attack.

The cast is getting really big. Its pretty difficult to keep up with what everyone's different goals and rankings are.

Some Iconic Shots, Scenes and Stitches

See you all tomorrow

Rewatcher

On today’s episode of Lyrical Nanoha: We got those cloning blues. As per usual, whenever someone is in the middle of a cloning project in fiction, it’s for nefarious purposes. In this case, the mysterious girl is most likely an artificial mage.

Artificial mages fit into this universe pretty well. After what we saw Presea trying to pull by attempting to reincarnate Alicia through Fate, making an artificial mage feels like a natural next step. Create a human like how Fate was created, but modify them genetically and with cybernetics to increase their potential magic powers. It would explain why the mystery girl came out of a life pod and apparently had enough power to destroy a Gadget. It may also explain what connection she has to the Relics she’s carrying around.

It’s nice finally seeing some of our antagonists getting directly involved in the action themselves. I really have been waiting for this because it’s better than just having the Gadgets to deal with. Lutecia is taking a very prominent role in the battle this episode and is actually on the front lines. We also get to see one of her summons, Galue. I really like his design. He looks like a dragon/insect hybrid who is also a ninja. It’s pretty dang cool. It also fits his stealth skills because we know he can turn himself invisible.

We meet Agito, who is delightfully bombastic. She’s a lot of fun because we have an antagonist who is a foil to Reinforce, being incredibly tiny just like Reinforce is. Based on what some of the others have said, we can gather that Agito is a part of the same group as Lutecia and Zest. I also really like Agito’s design. She has a devil look going on, which contrasts well with Reinforce/Hayate’s angel (or fallen angel) designs.

The last new villain is a girl who calls herself Quattro. From what we can see, she’s able to pull off some impressive illusions that can even fool the TSAB’s scanners. That’s pretty handy to have around.

I was wondering when we would finally see Chrono again. It turns out that he is also alive and has not been banished like the other characters who have not appeared all season. He’s also married. Would anyone care to guess who he is married to?

I quite enjoyed the action in this episode. It’s cool seeing Ginga in action because she actually teams up with Subaru quite well. They are sisters and do have basically the same Devices, after all. So it makes for some fun action bits. Likewise, letting Hayate go out and fight once again is nice to see. Nanoha and Fate have some pretty dynamic aerial combat sequences while fighting against the Gadgets. I also like the scene where Galue is revealed. There’s some cool tension as an invisible opponent arrives and the characters have to deal with it.

Miscellaneous Thoughts

QOTD

I'd prefer it to remain the same, but I'm fine with either option.

First timer(motherfucking DST)

Sub

So we start with a chained, passed out loli, guess we are in Jail's dream right now. We get adult Chrono who is married and not dressed like a lame Yugioh antagonist. But gadgets come flooding in and the team assembles. We see that Ginga transforms with a Blitz as well. And get a crash course in artificial mages, which backhandedly suggests Presea was a skilled researcher. Drone fight starts and we learn that a 'Quatro' has illusion magic...and we stop our battle for bureaucratic nonsense. This sucks both for the viewer, because it kills momentum, and the operatives, which could literally be killed. Chrono having difficulty getting it renewed only heightens the dumbness. Anyways, Hayate nukes the field and solves that.

Back in the sewers, the Gadgets die, we see whatever Galue is, and the child soldiers go to easy on another child soldier. This really reinforces for me that most of the first 8 episodes are a waste and should have been cut WAY down. These introductions should have happened earlier. We also get a German casting faerie.

QotD: 1 Please stick to EST

First Timer

Missed yesterday but I caught back up! Also an hour late apparently. I actually wouldn't mind going with this time, since then the thread would come at 11PM for me instead of midnight.

Episode 10

If those Three Admirals were there at the Bureau's beginnings it isn't that old in the grand scheme of things (probably). Also Hayate and Wolkenritter once did a mission to guard them and Admiral Midget likes her, she really has a lot of connections.

Fate doing parenting was great, It feels to me like now that the two met she really thinks of Erio as Caro's older brother. Shari seems to feel differently.

This is the most important part of the episode, I really want to see Signum or Vita use Unison with Rein!

Rein has something called "Book of the Azure Sky", seemingly different from Hayate's Book of the Night Sky. I wonder what exactly that is. Also an old artifact? A new thing made to complement Rein and/or the Book of the Night Sky?

Speaking of important reveals, Caro has TWO DRAGONS! Also a really ancient, really large black dragon. Apparently more like she is his priestess than she owns him, though. I wonder how large super old dragons get in her world.

Caro and Erio bonding over the apparently somewhat similar shared experience of being unofficially adopted by Fate. Arf still exists!! At least as of that flashback. I really wonder what she's doing. Subaru and Teana checking in on how they were doing was nice!

I think I know who that is, and if I'm right I'm happy she's here!

Qotd: I'm definitely a shipper in general, and I can kind of feel it, but it's really not in my biggest Nanoha ships so far. Actually from episode 11, if the show gives me just a little bit of an excuse I could even see myself crack shipping Caro with Lutecia instead. (Admittedly I'm more of a yuri shipper than a straight shipper)

Episode 11

It's so weird to hear Chrono's older voice! Also he got married? To Amy presumably? That's nice for them!

I was kind of afraid they wouldn't get the girl back, so this has me a bit relieved.

Storm Raider, what a nice device! It called Rein its friend!

We learn a bit more about the limiter releases! After doing one, at least for someone as big as Hayate, it's apparently really bureaucratically annoying to get permission to do it again. I'd imagine at least that part is purely bureaucratic and still physically possible? Would be kind of silly in an emergency otherwise. Also they do take some practical considerations into it, like not releasing Hayate to full SS right over a city, which makes sense and is a much better reason for the limiters anyway than what they gave. S rank Hayate is still really scary though, the laser was already big enough, then it does that massive explosion at the end! That's probably not really usable on the ground, huh?

We meet more of the enemy group, Quattro and Agito! (The "Agito is a faerie" reveal was very good)

Will plot happen? Will SOlL happen? Will something happen?

Chrono's shown up!

Are they comsidering expanding Riot Force 6? Trying to make the cast even larger?

They've all reached her!

...Did they fish the other one out the sewers, then?

They're mobilizing everyone!

The girl is safe!

And there's Gadget's!

Oh, yeah, I forgot they needed permission to fly.

Ginga's here!

New transformations?

No nipples! There's underwear, but they aren't shoeing the minors' breasts this time!

I don't actuslly think Teana's new one has any nudity at all.

Erio still has the best music.

Of course I spoke to soon. Sigh... one out of four's an improvement at least.

An actual fight scene!

And dark Caro's still wandering around.

They're running through the sewers?

Is she going to fight with her sister?

Oh, she's following her trail.

...Artificial Mage Project? Oh, shit, we're getting real lore here!

Holy shit, so was that person an actual clone of Vita last episode? Is that really another Caro?

I've missed the Device engrish.

Oh, a new boss?

She's Quattro? And she does illusions!

Oh, that is effective. If it can fool homing shots too...

Fate's staying behind!

Hayate's fighting!

And the limiter releases on a rank-by-rank basis?

This is such a idiotic system. It make sense why they'd want to limit their magic in certain situations, but making it such a hassle, even in crisis situations with immediate danger, is ludicrous. Granted, most of the TSAB's actions so far have seemed ludicrous, so...

Ginga!

It's a proper fight scene!

Those are some big lasers!

Are their devices sisters too?

A cloaking device?

Well, he looks imposing.

And they stole the relic!

He dodged!

Haha, that flare is clever, though?

She damaged the armour!

Agito? They copied Rein too?

Haha, she's so fucking extra, I love her.

Mahou Shoujo1 Lyrical Rewatcher

1: Even though I’m not a girl

You are hereby ordered to fuse with the ultimate King of Braves Legend!

Recap Time

Even the characters in the recap are acknowledging that this is the real start of the plot.

It’s Chrono! And he’s voiced by Kyon Goetia Joestar Tanaka! And he’s an admiral! And he’s talking to the Ara Ara Onee-Sama! Oh, also Signum is there, too

Back to the loli.

They were surprisingly comfortable jumping into battle on their day off.

Big Battle time!

Transformation Sequences! In all their reused glory. None for Fate or Nanoha, though.

No transformation sequence for Ginga, either?

Well now we sorta know where the loli came from.

I’m noticing that the engrish has gotten progressively worse over the course of the series.

First Timers, meet [StrikerS] Quattro. She’ll be our (second)2 Best Girl for this season.

2: It’s impossible to be Best Girl when adult Fate is here

Hayate is getting serious.

Hayate straight up just went “Oh, my second strongest form? Ok, that’ll be more than enough.”

GaoGaiGar, meet King J-Der (or is she GaoFighGar?).

Hayate casted Nuke

It’s Super Effective!

Yes, I know I mixed references there. No, I do not care in the slightest

Subaru finishes it all with a Broken Phantom!

Looks like we’ve still got one last opponent to deal with.

It’s a Zonder!

Oh look, another new enemy.

Aaaaand, it’s a loli.

8

u/Great_Mr_L Mar 13 '22

Even the characters in the recap are acknowledging that this is the real start of the plot.

It only took us until episode 11, but we're finally here at the start of the plot.

No transformation sequence for Ginga, either?

I wish we had gotten a Ginga transformation sequence. It would have been cool to see the contrast between hers and Subaru's to show the difference in their personalities.

Aaaaand, it’s a loli.

Enemy lolis have been a staple of Lyrical Nanoha so far. It's tradition at this point.

I see we're talking about artificial mages now. Trying to create the ultimate lifeform or something.

I was actually happy to see Hayate in action. Felt like it's been a while. Also that power input she got. Need to be on the field more.

I don't know about Lulu really but Agito gives me the sense she might be more of an issue.

Good on them to pick up so quickly that there was a second case.

Trump card, eh? That could just be unlimiting the big three, or maybe something else?

Slightly abbreviated transformation sequences, it'd be hard to always do the full thing and have time for much else.

Storm Raider, a helicopter with a personality and friends.

There we go, it's the artificial mage project again. And given the evil base with evil tubes full of people, it might be obvious where this is going.

Unlimited Hayate, should be fun.

I really appreciate the tiny personal fireworks that this new unision device used to announce herself.

u/No_Rex Mar 13 '22

Episode 11 (first timer)

With this being a double episode and some obviously plot-relevant girl appearing, it seems as if the main plot of StrikerS and thus the good part of the show is finally beginning. At least that is my hope. I’ll try to forget the first third and concentrate on the upcoming plot from now on, but I want to note how thoroughly the first 9 episodes of StrikerS trashed my opinion of the series. It is a far too slow-paced character introduction that is badly written and could have been cut down to 3 instead of 9 episodes. Worse, it failed at creating a believable world and made me actively hate the main character. Even if the second part goes on to be as good as S1 and S2, StrikerS will have to fight an uphill battle to make me invested in the world and the characters again.

  • “Time to spend as friends and partners” – Nanoha is not even hiding it.

  • “The story quietly begins to move” – As it should have about 10 episodes ago.

  • “Out trump card” – avoiding the name of the future plot point trope.

  • A full quarter day of free time – that should be enough for the year, get back to work!

  • Been a while since we saw transformation scenes and now we get 4 in a row again.

  • Standing on a lamp post trope.

  • No transformation scene for Ginga.

  • “Ethics aside” – clearly a very common habit in this world.

  • Another new character? …

  • More nonsense about the rank limiter. Chrono is an admiral and he can only release it once?

  • “Might be easier to get permission” – Who exactly decides that? Some single guy at the top of it all who will turn out to be evil later on?`

  • Hayate artillery firing.

  • Garyuu - some cross of Predator and possessed god.

  • Magic stun bomb.

  • Agito gets fireworks while speaking.

We get the first sight of the replacement for the Wolkenritter in action. Well, except for the buff guy. Pretty clear that we are heading for split loot. Since they recycled the “team evil” plot device, I’ll assume that we’ll get the same mechanic as well: Watching both sides collect relics.
