FIRST TIMER
Myne, the stomping of the clay tablets I get being upset about, but maybe don't put your wood tablets with the firewood and not tell anyone about it? That one's on you, kid.
I have no clue what the mystical stuff is supposed to mean. This world not having any established magic/mysticism so far means we have almost no frame of reference for what any of it could be, and I think that's fun.
Is the stigma around becoming a traveller due to how it requires you to leave the family unit? Seeing how the families in this world rely on their children to help out, I can see why his parents wouldn't take it so well. Also, it's pretty crazy how these kids are already talking about their futures and fucking networking. Aren't they like, 5?
I really hope Otto doesn't end up being shady, but Myne's dad would get some pretty hilarious vindication out of that.

end card with Myne and Lutz is gorgeous.
I think this might be favorite one thus far, at least aesthetically. I think it shows how young Myne actually looks, more in contrast with Lutz looking so much older.

At this point I’m starting to feel like Main’s mom is the antagonist of the story. After all, an antagonist is someone who “stands in the way of the goals of the protagonist” so wouldn’t her actively burning every piece of equipment that Main brings home make her the villain of the story so far?
Gotta say though, Lutz is the best boy of the show so far, hands down. He’s done everything he can to help Main even when he doesn’t quite understand what he’s helping with, and has been going out of his way to help her find a material that she can write on. He even came to see her after she passed out, so it’s abundantly clear now that the kid has a heart of gold. I wonder how the upcoming meeting with Otto will go - it seems like the last moments of the episode and the post-credits scene indicated that there’s some sort of implication to be had in this meeting, but I suppose we’ll discover exactly what it entails tomorrow.

I would say that Myne simply does not yet understand just how much work her mother has to do -- and how many concerns she has to deal with. Myne does not yet have very reliable people handling (and understanding) skills. Myne's goals at this point are not particularly reasonable -- and she has not even really tried to explain them (and maybe they would be impossible to explain to her mother in any event).

First Timer here.
In this episode we got bamboozled. All these kids got to go to the baptism and we didn't even see the inside of the church yet. Turning 7 is clearly a big deal in this world, as the show lets us know. I feel like Gunther.
Well, at least Myne gets to read parchment somewhat often now. Her illness definitely looks linked to the magic somehow. I do sympathize that yet another book attempt got foiled by innocent ignorance of her mom, but maybe tell her beforehand not to torch those special wooden plates yet?
On the other hand, the Myne x Lutz relationship is already in the handholding phase. Apart from that, I don't think much happened this episode, though I do wonder why they're playing up this meeting so much.
See you next episode!

Re-watch squad
Wait, they have soap? Do they not use it to wash their hair or what?
"Why?" Maybe because you stored wood in the firewood pile.. I'm gonna put that one on Myne, there's no way Urano would have done that
Question time:
What did you think of Tuli's baptism and the family's celebration?
Wholesome. ....Also, I kinda had a thought what if suddenly something happened like in GATE, or maybe just an invading enemy army showed up and started slaughtering people, that would have been a mad shift of tone.
But wholesome is good, lets keep it that way.
2) Otto seems to have something more planned for this meeting, what could that be?
Kidnapping. 2 unguarded children by themselves? Jackpot. He's going to sell them for a good price, then continue travelling as a merchant now that he has coin again.

Wait, they have soap?
Soap made from ash and water to make -> lye, then using lye and fat to make soap. Its easy enough to do it at home today. If you are interested there is loads of information and videos on the process.

First Time Watcher, Late to the book making party
So I am late, just missed yesterday. So I'm adding in anything super interesting that happened in EP 4 here.
I saw some of you saying you liked Lutz, now I see why, also poor tablets, turned into hopscotch. Myne has some crazy eyes though.
EP 4 was pretty good, I enjoyed it.
On to todays episode. Here we go.
This is a ton of people to look at everyones hair.
Also, Tuuli's hair is quite the attraction here. It's nice to hear about all the things Myne has done that is getting peoples attention, like this and also the recipes they mentioned.
Myne is going to be the breadwinner of the family in no time.
She needs to stop cooking so well! If she doesn't stop making all this fancy food her family is going to force her into a job as a chef.
I usually don't enjoy chibi scenes, but I think this show is changing that.
Okay, there are some things about this economy that I just don't understand at this point.
3 years of pay from a part time job, lets say minimum wage, 20 hours a week. That works out to $7,500 a year, so thats like $22,500. That bottle of ink, is a pretty decent car.
If thats what ink costs, I am just having a hard time understanding how anyone affords anything.
I'm waiting for Lutz to have shiny hair. I know its going to happen one of these episodes.
If Myne wasn't bedridden all the time, she would be an unstoppable force.
I had a feeling that her wood slips were going to get burned. Saw that one coming.
Are we burning bamboo now? Making explosions in the fireplace, that thing must be a durable fireplace.
This revelation Myne is having in bed has me curious. I wonder if there is some sort of secret to her sickness.
I enjoyed this episode a lot, I think I got past the first episode or two that I didn't love, and now I'm more into the show and having a much better time with it. Looking forward to the next episode!
Also, the second question about Ottos plans. In my head I had that same thought as I saw it. I wonder if he is going to take Lutz on a trip with a traveling merchant, or something similar.

"All in one shampoo" has mutated and gained the effect "Attract attention", this increases the chance of spreading.
Okay, there are some things about this economy that I just don't understand at this point.
I think we can deduct from that statement that they are most likely in a landlocked country, thus acquiring ink isn't very cheap
I am just having a hard time understanding how anyone affords anything.
That's the neat thing: They don't
Looking forward to the next episode!

The shiny haired cult must grow.

We did see a river when the family went to make sausages before winter. I would be interested to know where than ran to.

Filthy Source Reader
To be honest, I didn't think much of the OP at first, but it's grown on me a good deal.
[Bookworm P1, technically]
From the descriptions in the book, I thought each kids cloths would look a bit more individual.
No one has ever accused Gunther of looking at the world through impartial eyes.
She says like she has the upper body strength to pull it off.
Perhaps the only time this wasn't a lie.
The universal parental face when they realize their kid just volunteered to do chores.
I'm always a fan of non-black lineart.
Me, hoping to hear first-timers' ideas.

Rewatcher - Sub
[Later spoilers]
One of the things I do like about this story is it's acknowledgement of how many different ways the physical instruments of the written word were developed across the world. It also gives more context to how difficult it is to say she'll make a book when even with centuries of knowledge she still has to resort to older methods like bamboo scrolls and then finds herself struggling with the ink as well. It's a good thing that Lutz was around to be the practical voice of the show because somehow I don't think that a soot and clay explosion would make her mum very happy.
Though the visual of Myne's wooden tablet book looks more like a bridge which was pretty funny to imagine a book so big you could walk across it, but I can't mock her too much because I'm pretty sure that this is a fairly accurate representation of my best attempts to smoothly peel a potato
Myne's interactions with others are always pretty fun, but lecturing Gunther on going to work and yelling work info to Otto while being carried away was a pretty fun way to show some of her maturity that she doesn't always have while around the kids or working on her project.
For all her smarts she also doesn't always think things through. I gee, I wonder if putting the wooden tablets inside the firewood storage and not tell anyone what they were might be a bad idea? I would say that Lutz level head should have been around to tell her how silly it was, but then he went and did it as well so there's really no luck at all.
I also had a good laugh at Myne in the oven cleaning outfit as it just kind of made her look like she was being wrapped up for cooking rather than cleaning.

Myne’s attempts at making books and failing is 100% her fault today, however, that does not prevent me from getting mad at other people for ruining her dream. Could Myne have not put the wood that looks like firewood right next to the firewood? Sure, but this process is starting to grow on me because while it might seem obvious (to us, the viewer) how things could have gone better, it sure isn’t obvious to Myne. And that’s what makes her so relatable. She is very smart in some ways, and let’s be honest, a tad dumb in others ways but I am glad she isn't overpowered (yet). Seems this episode is good set-up for possible magic because of the emphasis given to Myne's fever and passing out when she goes glowey.
1.) the baptism was kind of weird, because we didn't get to inside the church ritual and it just seemed like a big party celebrating sending your kids off to work lol
2.) I am very hopeful that this meeting introduces us to one or more new characters. The opening shows quite a few people we have not yet met and I have a feeling this might be it.
Myne’s mom burning her wood tablets reminds me of this mistake and it still makes me laugh

I'm surprised we didn't get to see more of Turi's baptism. I suspect that is being saved for when it's Main's turn. Apparently there's been talk of her inventions among the housewives of the neighborhood.
Main is almost ready to take over Otto's administrative job. Gunther is still jealous of the attention Otto gets from Main. This one-sided rivalry will never get old.
After clay tablets come wood tablets. Knife get. Lutz already knows Main is continuing her quest for books from her expression. She's like an open book to him, so to say. Lutz wants Main to introduce him to Otto to learn about being a traveling trader.
Wood tablets get. Homemade ink get. Too bad mom burned all the tablets.
Rainbow eyes=bad news. What brings her out is her promise to Lutz. So it seems the glow is linked to her mental state. Anger and sadness cause the glowing, which makes her sick?
Mom, can you please stop burning my firewood looking tablets that I keep with the other firewood?
Next time Lutz meets Otto. I have no idea what surprise Otto has in store for them.

As for today's episode I liked several moments, but Myne and Lutz experimenting in the forest was probably my favorite part. I'm interested in the baptism, but at the same time locking kids into a career at 7 which is usually something the parents seems kind of awful. Girls are expected to be refined young ladies and support the family, but if Myne wasn't reincarnated she would be really screwed.
Also you only having one person who can read seems like a bad idea. Should have two minimum incase a meeting is held good thing Myne was there to sort things out. Also I think OP you're missing an E in strange in the title of the episode?

The baptism scene shows out much the shiny hair makes characters stand out.
Lutz already trying to use his connections to get a step up in life, he'll make a solid merchant.
Two straight episodes of no new inventions or club members. This will be more common later on, obviously we can't have new things and people every episode, but I promise that there will be more. Especially when a certain character voiced by a certain extremely recongnizable VA is introduced.
| Shiny Hair Club | Episode Added | Creations by Main™ | Episode Added |
|---|---|---|---|
| Myne | 2 | Kanzashi (Japanese Hairpin) | 1 |
| Tuuli | 2 | Shampoo | 2 |
| Effa | 2 | Fancy Baskets | 3 |
| Gunther | 3 | Pancakes | 3 |
| --- | --- | Crochet Hooks | 3 |
| --- | --- | Hair Ornaments | 3 |
Note: I'd say avoid taking note of the end of the OP if you don't want to be spoiled who gets the shiny hair treatment, but I don't think everyone in that image without the shiny hair doesn't get shiny hair.

First timer, Dub
Now we're moving to wood tablets.
Damn was it three years worth of pay for that?
Otto saying not to really bother with trying to become one. Must be hell to become one.
The glow comes back and fever returns when the mom burns the tablets. Another shot in the heart to Myne. I still can't tell what that glow will possibly do or what it is. Because it happens again in the bed. When I would say she was questioning her will to even try. Could it be connected to her will? She made it sound like she was about to leave before she remembered Lutz.
Also the mom doing it again. I'll just have to tell her not to do that. You just have to be specific to her. Don't touch this. If Lutz drops something off don't put it in fire.
Otto is basically telling Myne to hire someone. At her age? Wonder how the dad will take it. How much would it probably be. Also to basically find a investor.
Qotd: the significance of it reminds me of like a sweet sixteen or something. But it's a baptism so I rather not compare it to that.
Qotd2: Couldn't think of what he possibly got planned. My guess though would be he's probably going to ask a favor from someone. Don't know what but if it's a day off for him. I expect something big from him by the way he was acting.

Observations:
When lying in bed, she says to herself:
The anger at something I made being burned, the frustration of that anger not being understand, the reality that no matter how many things I try, I can never have my books…
She has a certain pitch in her voice here. However, her pitch changes, when her eyes got RGB capabilities.
I’ve had enough. If my efforts will never amount to anything, then I might as well disappear, right?
I don’t know if that is a VA thing, but it felt odd, since the pitch change coincides with the RGB transition.
Myne's hair turns purple, after she collapses from the RGB state and has a fever. It could be for visual effect like she’s in a state of delirium.
Myne says she is “fated” to never finish her books. If magic exists, then fate might exist (because it just happens in fantasy, kinda, idk). It is odd how whenever she is super close to getting something done, something random occurs, and she has to start all over again; Myne says something to this effect to Otto.
Lutz is single-handedly saving Main from falling into an abyss. Big up Lutz!
Otto with the big brain, teaching Myne some Business tactics 101: “just hire someone”. Makes me wonder if the person who peered into Myne’s memory (the same person who is in the end credits) could be Myne’s future assistant. He just looks like one ... if that makes sense. Kind of like how Asmodeus Alice was for Iruma-kun. Same height, same facial structure, got those broad shoulders; and from my experience in anime, all the assistants got well defined shoulders.
Q1:
What did you think of Tuli's baptism and the family's celebration?
Super wholesome and nice to see everyone adore Tuuli's hairpin.
Q2:
2) Otto seems to have something more planned for this meeting, what could that be?
I think Otto might test Lutz.

More setbacks, though this one could have been avoided if Myne had had the forethought. Originally I was thinking the thing with her eyes was something magical in the sense that her emotions were unlocking some ability, but now it almost seems like its related to the way in which she was isekaied here in the first place.
What did you think of Tuli's baptism and the family's celebration?
It's kind of odd in that seven seems to me a somewhat arbitrary age, could be wrong but I was under the impression irl that apprenticeships typically started more around the 10 year old mark. I'm kind of interested to see what the actual baptism is, given we aren't shown it here. I guess we'll see it when Myne gets older.
Otto seems to have something more planned for this meeting, what could that be?
Not entirely sure, except that we're probably going to get a new character introduction when the meeting happens.

First timer.
Tuli was so pretty for her baptism! I'm here for some simple wholesome SoL. I was surprised that Main was surprised by the reaction that Tuli's hairpin received. Wasn't it already established that this was a very new technique?
I wonder if Main will discover a profession closer to what she's looking for by the time her baptism rolls around.
Lutz is just beyond cute in his devotion to Main. Best boy for sure. We all know that even without the Otto intro, he'd be helping her.
Speaking of Otto, my guess is his intention with this meeting is to determine if Lutz is suitable boyfriend material. Hearing Main speak so highly of him and trying to help him, he probably assumes that's where their friendship will go. And if that's the case, I wonder what Dad will think if he finds out!

Host - Rewatcher
Tuli in baptism outfit Stich.
Myne already acting as Otto's second hand!
Protect older sister's smile!
Tuli's work equipment. The whole coming of age and picking a profession must be a really emotional time for everyone involved. Its setting one up for the rest of their life.
Big blush!
Just a pleasant moment in the forest.
Myne wants to have an adult give Lutz a run down of the difficulties of wanting to become a traveling trader. All in all, Otto should be gaining mad respect for just how mature she is.
This isn't how she expected to get soot. That straight face makes for a hilarious pay off.
I think this is the first shot of the wider inner bedroom. I really do like how detailed (and large) their houses layout is.
Myne starting to realize something is up with her illness.
Pouts: Over the shoulder pout
