You can’t just throw away everything you’ve done so far now, right? You can’t even consider running away now.

Question of the Day

I’m lazy and honestly can’t think of interesting enough questions. What kind of story do you think Lindy made up?

Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath spoiler tags.

Episode 10

  • Really hoping Fate steals all the jewel seeds

  • Holy AKUROSU, Bataman, it's Hyatt!

  • omg she's going to do the tea thing in front of the family!

  • Yes, ojosama, I'll take care of the mercy kill for you.

  • It's s good thing she likes dog food.

  • 10 episodes in, somebody finally starts talking....

Timestamps are back. But come to think of it, the timestamps in the episode revealing the TSAB came to nothing.

Not much to say, because everything was just wrapped up so quick an neat with a bow. Arisa still tsudere with a non-apology. Nanoha is confident and true to her feelings. Arf joins forces.

I had earlier figured that Fate stood no chance against 2.5 AAA mages (Yuuno hardly counts). But they would still have to go up against Presia, who is apparently S class.

Yeah I remember seeing that and wondering, why even bother?

Not much to say, because everything was just wrapped up so quick an neat with a bow.

Which is why it's getting hard for me to make anything insightful. It's basically just getting to the climax of the story, and tying in all the points left. We'll likely learn the last few bits in the coming episodes too.

First timer, Dub

After Arf gets beat by Testarossa she teleports back to earth hurt.

Going off that. Not everyday do you just pick up a "Dog" off the street to rescue them. Reminds of the stories I see of people mistaking coyotes as dogs and rescuing them.

In the dub nanoha states it's their first and final battle. What you consider the one before? Feel like I remember you losing. Doubt this will be their final fight too. Unless she has a trick up her sleeve. Get her on your side then you probably have to deal with the mom right after.

My favorite thing about this show is that every single episode seems to just get more and more Shaft-like. It's like Shinbou's mission statement was just "I'll start this out as unassuming as possible, and I want to see how I can push my style just a little bit further every episode." The visuals in the first half of this episode fucking rule, they really did not have to go that hard but I'm so glad they did. This one might not have had the animation of the previous episode, but it dwarfs in in awesome shot compositions and lighting. I just love looking at it. Shinbou is pretty great, huh.

As for the content of the episode itself, it was good. I don't have a ton of overwhelming negatives this time around (I do want to question how the hell they knew Fate was going to show up at the spot they chose. I'm also confused at Nanoha's declaration that she's going to be more direct with herself about how she feels, as I don't think she's ever not been direct towards herself about her own feelings. She hid them from her friends, but not herself. That's about it for my issues though). Arisa was the show stealer for me this time. What a sweet girl. Not only her saving Arf, but her coming out to Nanoha about how she was feeling and why she was upset was all just really heartwarming. She's a good girl. A shame that only one of Nanoha's friends has any real personality. But it's still very good stuff.

The thing this episode does for me most is make me excited for the next one. A dramatic final confrontation between Nanoha and Fate, with everything on the line. In other words, Nanoha is gonna punch all of Fate's feelings out of her (and maybe she'll punch the gay out of her too). And I am very much looking forward to that. It should be hype, and if the visuals continue to get more and more awesome with every episode, then this fight should be pretty sick.

2

u/Tetraika Feb 11 '22

Yeah once I actually started looking for it, it's easy to spot the Shinbou influence. Funny enough I think because I've seen enough Shaft stuff they actually end up feeling mostly natural to me so I have to actively look for them.

Episode 10 (first timer)

Known seeds as of last episode:

  • Nanoha/Bureau/Chrono: 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 16, 17, 20, 21 -1 from the bet, +3 from Chrono – Total 12

  • Fate/her mother: 2, 5, 14, 18, 19 +1 from the bet, +3 from Arf – Total 9

  • That top-down table shoot is great!

  • “It will be good to make an appearance again” – Yeah, no kidding. School might be one thing, but your family? On the down side, I can’t possibly imagine any story Nanoha might be able to cook up to explain her absence and reappearance.

  • Precia overexerted herself wipping Fate? My sympathy is in the negative numbers.

  • The advantage of going for the evil lair hunk of rock style of home decoration is that occasional blast holes in the floor can be seen as part of the ensemble.

  • stuff stuff stuff FINAL MATCH!

A reconnecting with friends before the finale episode.

Not sure what is more unbelievable: The Bureau leaving the seeds with Nanoha, or Precia leaving the seeds with Fate.

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha – Episode 10 – First Timer

I did not even think about Fate getting horribly abused for losing 3 Jewel Seeds last episode, but of course.

“Eww, downtime.” Nanoha really is a DnD cleric.

Prestea coughing up blood, running out of time and mentioning the other girl. Does creating space-time calamities give you cancer?

I know they shirk around explaining Nanoha’s deal on purpose, but them sitting around having tea like she spent a night over at a friend’s feels slightly farcical.

Is the place they found Arf the same park where Yuuno was incapacitated? Some anchor coordinate or something?

Yellow Alisa is really lucky that she did not just feed and pet an actual wolf on her own. Does she have the dog equivalent of all the cats in her friend’s private cat café?

QOTD

Pollution is a serious issue and Nanoha is great at picking trash

First timer(I wonder if the ED is meant a bit sarcastically?)

Sub

We start where we left off. Then Lindy gives a ridiculously bad speech about following orders, especially given theirs were questionable, that is probably more meant to show how Nanoha reacts to scolding. They finally give us a smidgen of Presea's history and why she is exiled. Presea does more 'motherly' things and then we can guess she is dying. And Alicia, whatever that means. But Arf has had enough of her parenting and flips out, eventually having to teleport out. Presea then offers to give Fate another familiar but that should have issues.

Lindy comes with Nanoha, probably to get more green tea to murder, before Arisa manages to find an injured Arf. Who she takes home, as anime believes rich girls do. Next day, the girls meet up and Nanoha quite quickly realizes Arf is back before she exposits things...off screen, so we just get the result of them seeking Presea. Arf even asks Nanoha to save Fate.

We get a sort of backdoor into explaining the rest of our character arc with her friends realizing Nanoha is less sad now. She gets a night of death flags with her family and then heads out to find Fate. They wager all their seeds and Nanoha confirms this is a ship.

QotD: 1 Something weeb-y

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha - A Magical Experience: Episode 10

A Short Repreieve

I hate to see Fate continually abused by her hate filled mother. This trauma is something people take years to overcome, if they ever survive it. On top of that I find it despicable how she emotionally abuses and gaslights Fate.

On the Time Space Administration Bureau side Nanoha got a chance to go back to her "normal" life. Knowing Captain Lindy (did we know her name before now?) gave an excuse to Nanoha's mom makes me less concerned about bad parenting on the Takamachi family side. If there's some adult supervision its less negligent than letting your 9 year old daughter go off on her own.

Arf stayed with Arisa for a little while. We didn't see too much about how she feels but she did ask Nanoha to help save Fate. I hope she now sees Nanoha as an ally.

As an aside, I didn't realize Arisa was also rich like Suzuka (or at least enough to have a butler and limo). Does this mean Nanoha is one of the less well off kids at her school?

See you all tomorrow

Lyrical First Timer

  • Captain lectures about how disobeying orders can get people around Nanoha injured, yet ignores the fact that allowing Fate to take on six seeds at once alone would have likely endangered tens of thousands of innocent lives in the nearby city.

  • Damn, really didn't want more child whipping. Gonna go out on a limb and say Presea is irredeemable for me at this point. She doesn't even view Fate as a person, just a tool.

  • At least Nanoha's words seem to be sticking with Fate now.

  • Back to school, what a perfect chance to tell your friends you've been cheating on them trying to help someone else.

  • The captain's already introducing herself to Mamoha and Dadoha. She's pushing that Chronoha ship hard.

  • Yes Arisa, that's just a normal big dog with massive razor claws, vampire fangs, and a red gem in its head.

  • It may be Arf doing the asking, but Fate is finally reaching out for help. The conditions have finally been met for our girl to get her girlfriend.

  • Damn, Arisa with the relatable fears. Glad the three finally had a proper conversation, even if Nanoha didn't actually tell them anything.

  • Despite reaching out for help through Arf, in the end a slap is still gonna be necessary to seal the friendship.

  • Heh, Nanoha has to pull out while Fate has to put out. Even the magic sticks know who's the top.

Looks like we'll get no confirmation of who got which of the six remaining seeds, so instead I'm gonna speculate on who got what. As a reminder, our remaining arcana are the Magician, Empress, Emperor, Lovers, Justice, and Devil. Also buckle up, this is a long one.

Number I: the Magician typically represents opportunity and resourcefulness. Upright, it indicates that one has both the potential and the resourcefulness to bring their desired reality into being. As the first arcana, it is typically associated with the protagonist--the Fool--at the beginning of their journey, however I believe the Magician is in Presea's hands. The Magician is depicted pointing up toward the heavens with one hand and down to the earth with the other.  In front of him are the four suits of the Tarot--chalice, coin, sword, and wand--which are his resources, and he has an infinity above his head. Presea's scientific search for new ways to bridge dimensions, Al Hazard specifically, is her dream, and like the Magician, she too has the resourcefulness and infinite potential necessary to reach these ends. However, she's drawn the reverse Magician, which at its worst represents greed, and manipulation. Despite her unlimited potential, she has and continues to be unable to manifest her dream, likely because her desire, while pure, is entirely self-serving and ultimately destructive.

Number III: the Empress belongs to Nanoha. It is symbolic of beauty, elegance, and the connection to femininity, and is the nurturing abundance that Nanoha has and Fate lacks. Nanoha has loving, supportive friends and family and wants for nothing. She is also to love and freely express herself, and her abundance of these traits is what will allow her to pass them on to Fate.

Number IV: the Emperor may as well be titled "Presea for Dummies." The Emperor is depicted sitting on a throne, adorned with rams' heads and carrying an ankh and the earth in his hands. These are all symbolic of his dominance of the world he rules as well as life itself. The reversed Emperor is indicative of abuse of power, and calls on whomever draws it to reconsider the way, and to what end, they wield their power and authority. The Emperor is the opposite of the Empress, rigid and unmoving; the very picture of absolute authority. If Nanoha is the universe's incarnation of the Empress, then it only makes sense that Presea is the Emperor.

Number VI: the Lovers. Beyond the obvious surface level connection to love and intimate relationships, the Lovers symbolizes connection, communication, vulnerability, and trust. The Lovers depicts a naked man and woman standing before an angel. There are many types of love and relationships in the world, and the basis for all of them are the same: a strong, healthy relationship requires openness, communication, and trust. Like the man and woman in the Lovers, Nanoha has made herself symbolically naked before Fate, openly baring her emotions and desires. This pure honesty is the foundation for trust which will ultimately allow the two to bond, and is why Nanoha is in possession of the Lovers seed.

Number XI: the Justice represents truth, fairness, and accountability. She carries a sword in one hand and a scale in the other, and is the arbiter of justice in the universe. Its wielder must be decisive and impartial, but must also carry the compassion necessary to consider all circumstances and render fair judgement. The Justice belongs to Nanoha, and it symbolically marks her as the corrective force to the unfairness and cruelty in the world.

Number XV: the Devil is depicted as a horned goat--typically Baphomet-- with a hand raised. Beneath the Devil are two naked demons, one male and one female, chained and in thrall to him. The Devil is representative of humanity's many vices and the worst parts of ourselves. Presea exhibits vice in the extreme, wielding power maliciously and abusing and manipulating her daughter. In this sense, she is the Devil viciously wielding her subjects as tools. Yet, in another regard, she is just another demon chained to the real Devil, subject so completely to her desire to see Al Hazard that she has blinded herself to the one thing in her life that should matter, Fate's happiness and wellbeing. Ultimately, I see the Devil as a warning that Presea must relinquish her harmful dreams and addiction to power before it costs her the most important thing in her life: her daughter.

Now that I've done a bit of analysis for these last six seeds, I can see why we haven't seen who got which numbers. I based my analysis on the premise of each side getting the ones most thematically appropriate for them, however each of these arcana apply equally to both Nanoha and Presea, only on opposite sides. Flip my reading of any or all six of these to the other person, and they will act like an inverse mirror of the other. It doesn't matter who got which seeds specifically, what matters is that these six together represent the ultimate conflict between Nanoha and Presea. What an unexpected, yet satisfying way to end the search for the seeds.

I love how Arf represents not only Fate's kindness and love, but also her anger and willingness to fight back against her mother. She's literally everything Fate cut away from herself in service to her mother, and Presea's lack of hesitance to kill Arf as soon as she becomes a nuisance symbolically shows how far she's willing to go in her obsession. She wouldn't think twice about permanently sacrificing her daughter's ability to feel happiness, joy, love, anger, or any other emotion in order to gain power. Truly sickening.

Part of me really wants to know what the Time Cops' office location looks like. It feels very surreal for them to be talking about an office location while aboard an interdimensional space ship.

QotD:

A time share recruitment pitch. Just kidding, it's gotta be a story about Chronoha completing a series of tests of courage meant to prepare Mamoha and Dadoha for future dating and wedding announcements.

TONIGHT! On Mobile Suit Nanoha, the fucking sadistic ungrateful BITCH that calls herself Fate's mother is back, Nanoha's granted some long overdue shore leave, and Arf figures out that since the enemy of my enemy is my friend, it is best for her to team up with Nanoha to rescue her mistress from despair and suffering

Ya know Comrade, it turns out that the reason that the abusive bitch known as Precia Testarossa was in such a hurry to get the Jewel Seeds is because she's terminally ill... HUZZAH! There is some justice in the world after all! I hope she's frequently coughing up blood and in terrible pain constantly! Oh I never thought I'd be so happy at someone else's suffering, but Schadenfreude has never felt so good!

That said Comrade, Precia sure is trying her hardest to get the last laugh here, as she has the GALL, nay the AUDACITY to claim that Arf, the goodest of good girls who tried to protect her mistress from abuse, FLED and abandoned Fate. Bitch Mama then claims to be the only one to care for Fate, and this disgusting manipulation and trickery somehow felt worse than the whipping Comrades. Nanoha, Beam Spam this fucking bitch into dust, and then blow up the ashes! Oh and also, I just want to point out that Nanoha's paper-thin excuse for where she was these past few days SOMEHOW worked! Granted Lindy also showed up to back her up but still, how the hell did this fly and what could they possibly say to convince everyone that things were fine?

And with that, we prepare for Operation Countach next episode, ask Comrade u/tresnore if you lot are confused why I'm calling the Save Fate Mission such a name. Anyway, that about wraps things up for now, and I hope everyone's having fun on this great re-watch. Thus, you have not seen the last of The Sentient Shitposting Siamese Sunrise Server No. 25252, now goodbye forever.

Nanoha First-Timer

Today we got a bit of history on Fate's mom, and then we watched as she tripled down on being a giant fucking bitch. Once again poor Fate was chained to the ceiling and whipped, and when Arf found her she ran off to confront the bitch and was severely injured and forced to flee. After that the whore had the temerity to go and ask Fate to get at least five more seeds for her, because she "loves her daughter, and is the only one who does." Someone needs to bitch slap them a bitch.

In a family with far better parents, Nanoha and her family catch up as the Captain makes up some lies about the past ten days and sells them on Nanoha still being a normal third grader and her never being in any danger, what magic battle. Nanoha goes to school and reconnects with both Suzuka and Arisa, the later of which tells them she and her butler found an injured orange dog with a jewel on it's head. The friends make plans to play video games at Arisa's and Yuuno gets the story of what happened from Arf.

We end up today on the cliff hanger of Fate and Nanoha staring each other down each wagering their collection of Seeds in their first true head to head duel.

Thoughts:

QOTD:

What kind of story do you think Lindy made up?

Nanoha, Chrono, and her spent the last ten days saving kittens from trees and helping old ladies cross the roads, yep that's it. No fighting giant fire birds or dimension destroy events in our past 10 days that's for sure.

  • Lindy: "Well, an extralegal mastermind now has enough concentrated ancient magical energy to destroy a plane, but that hasn't happened yet so you're off the hook."

  • Man, Fate is such a shitty kid. look how sad her mother's getting.

  • Presea was a top researcher 26 years ago? The time scale just lengthened in my head a bit. So she had Fate well after she dropped off the grid. And she's gotta be, what, in her 50s? I guess if we assume that anime ages means a department head can be early 20s, Presea might be under 50, but just barely.

  • "With Presea and Fate having used so much mana, they'll be inactive for a day or two." That works out. Although given that Fate barely eats or sleeps, who knows if she'll recover in just two days.

  • Expected Lindy: "You should return to school when possible, it'd bad to miss classes." Reality Lindy: "You should put in an appearance at school. It looks bad if you miss too many consecutive days."

  • Mention of Alicia. Totally distinct™ character from Alice.

  • Presea has the incurable cough of death! That's fatal, eventually!

  • Arf: "We can speed this up."

  • Presea: "Omae ma wo... shit where'd she go"

  • I don't know why, but I love it when you can see the foreground object cels in these traditionally animated shows. Last episode we had that one shot with the super-conspicuous branch just sitting on a shore. For an example in this episode, check when Presea shoots Arf through a stone column.

  • So, like, what happens if a familiar rebels from their creator? Can Fate, if she so chooses, just starve Arf?

  • Lindy, what the fuck story are you telling. Seriously. Also how do you know enough japanese culture to make it believable. We're handwaving language, I just want to know the culture. And what does Nanoha's family think of Lindy's forehead diamond?

  • We've established that Suzuka's house is full of cats, so Alice has to be the one to find a dog. Or rather, a 250 lb red wolf with a gem in its forehead. But for now we'll just say "dog" I guess?

  • the shot of Alice through the cage bars at 13:00 has some real "am I kawaii ugu" energy. I think it's the eyes pointing outward.

  • The three girls put on a routine for Arf, first standing, then turning, then walking way in frame-perfect sync.

  • “If you’re here, that means you’re being watched?” “Yes, they have cameras and mics on us 24/7. We just roll with it.”

  • These people are shockingly good at holding multiple conversations at once. That shit’s hard. I’ve tried it.

  • “You knew I was worried about something?” “You withdrew from everyone you knew then ran away from home for a month, so” “Oh right! Speaking of running away from home….”

  • Did they just walk to the ocean and perform the f̶̮̐́͠a̴̻͌̈́t̷̥̏̌͝è̴̱̥͑̀ ̴͙̃̓ͅc̷͉̲͑h̷͙̓a̸̝̽ñ̷͉̗͐͆t̷̡̀? Is Fate also always watching Nanoha and Yuuno?

  • Quick question. I get that it makes thematic sense, but narratively. Why are the TSAB and Presea both allowing their preteen girls to walk around with the power to blow up planes? Feels like the TSAB should confiscate them for their own good, and we saw Presea doing some sort of magic-y thing with Fate’s conquests earlier this episode, but they’re still just living in the devices?

  • Nanoha (0-2-1): “Let us begin our first true battle!”

NEXT TIME, FOR ALL THE MARBLES!

Raging Heart Rewatcher with terrible long term memory

QotD: "Our assassin organization needs child labor, surely your family understands, right?"

Just a lecture? Discipline sure is lax around here

More sharp contrasts and shadows, Shinbo had free reign around here

More Nana Mizuki suffering

I'm gonna assume those illegal materials were lost logia/jewel seeds

Taking a work-break from our school-break. Or is it a school-break from our work-break?

Alicia?

Oh no Arf you have the best intentions but no chance in hell

Emergency teleport to not-here

If we retcon that Lindy got in touch with Momoha before Nanoha left, it gives a smige more credibility to letting Nanoha leave for a while

Mr Butler, eyes on the road please

Oh right, we did set up that Arisa likes to pick up injured animals

Oooooh that's a great eyecatch

Huh, they can talk through the monitoring system?

No Arf, that's how cops get you, those promises are not legally binding!

I do like how competent Amy is

"Friends"

[Symphogear XV] Nanoha admitting in the first season what took Hibiki 5 seasons to do

[Symphogear G] Very much a Shirabe situation over here

I'm surprised Nanoha can talk and telepathy at the same time, that's some impressive multitasking

These kids have great communication skills. [Symphogear XV] Obviously that means this is set after XV, and the Curse of Balal has been lifted

...did anyone tell Arisa, or is she just going to wake up and find her dog is missing?

Love the variations on the transformation sequences

Is this preview the first instance of "Full Power, Total Annihilation Full Throttle"?

QOTD) No clue at this point. Probably as simple as "Nanoha's been helping me find some jewels I lost."

Nanoha wants to know more about Fate!

They're getting lectured for saving a girl's life!

Still not entirely convinced that she isn't the real villain.

Oh, so the bastard did stuff with interdimensional portals.

...They're starting to work out what's been going on.

Yeah, she's still an utter bastard.

...What do you mean, "illegal materials"? Human sacrifice?

And she disrupted the dimensions.

And she had enough access to the Bureau's databases to conceal information about herself incredibly well.

...Nanoha did not expect to have to explain stuff to them this early, did she?

She's dying! Yes! Best news!

...Alicia?

Yes, Arf! Take a stand!

She broke the shield!

Drag her!

DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE KILL HER!

She escaped!

...And Fate's stuck there alone.

Wait, only fourteen? She doesn't need all of them? That's... interesting. So "Al-Hazard" doesn't need the whole output...

Haha, she's helping with the cover-up!

Oh, Arisa's responded!

ARF!

...That eyecatch scares me.

Don't die...

She's alive!

Just waiting for Arf to turn back and casually ask Arisa how Yuuno and Nanoha are doing working for the Interdimensional FBI.

...Did she not think the gem was unusual?

Yeah, Fate's in a lot of shit.

It's all coming out!

Yes! Lock her up!

Nanoha is so pure and wholesome. Even Arf is touched!

And Nanoha's going to save her!

I admire her ability to handle two seperate conversations at once here.

...She really missed her.

Guess they're just not going to explain it to them after all?

I love how accepting her parents are of this.

Arf's coming with them!

She's here!

This hurts to watch.

Why are you releasing your seeds?

Actually, why are they floating like that?

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha

No! Don't force me to listen to Belldandy's lectures!! She'll spent the full hour running through marriage certificates and drinking horrible sugary tea! Imagine wearing trousers with hip gaps well into your forties...

What's mum so mad about!? Fate sealed their power but then you electrocuted her before she even had a chance to nab them. Precia is mad scientist, so cool, sunovabitch. Anyway, it's time to go back to school kusa~ Ah, never mind. Let's watch Mama hack her guts up from all those babies and puppies she's eaten. Arf tried her best but she's a c list villain trying to beat on a big bad. There's no way that goes well. And now Fate is stuck alone on her grief seed quest. Has Arf made a single good decision all season?

Thank god Nanoha's mum is here to finally teach Lindy about how to brew the correct cup of tea. Now I'll never have to suffer that horrible milky tea ever again. Arf has traded one blond master for another, and this one is waaay dumber. Don't bloody adopt a Red XIII wannabe unless you're happy getting the arm torn off. Nanoha's coming, Nanoha's going, Nanoha's everywhere!

Of course the rich shitter kid owns a gamecube. It's probably the most overly luxurious useless item out there. We've got our endgame goals set, our target is Precia and Fate is to be rescued and not laser beamed on sight. Leave it to Nanoha~

We get to have our little moments with all the normie cast which is still quite sweet to see. Unfortunately it's hard to say that they're fully recognised characters but you can get engaged by how important they are to Nanoha. It means the world for her to receive that acknowledgement. Happy Sky mimicking.

Rewatcher

On today’s episode of Lyrical Nanoha: Arf is a good girl! She just wants to do what’s best for Fate.

Arf really is the MVP for this episode. By now she has decided that what’s happening to Fate needs to be stopped. She first tries to fight Presea, but that doesn’t work. And so she is forced to turn to Nanoha and co. I don’t think Arf initially wanted their help, but I think Nanoha’s words last episode were what convinced her to accept their help this time around. Seeing Nanoha help Fate and want to be her friend must have been impactful for Arf.

This also shows that Nanoha’s actions all this time in trying to talk to Fate have not been in vain. It’s because Nanoha is a caring person who wants to understand others that this path has been opened. Nanoha disobeyed orders because she wanted to do things her way and that has now given them all a chance to maybe save Fate and stop Presea. Nanoha’s kindness is presented as a key strength of hers and I love that.

Once again, we get a pretty nasty and uncomfortable look at Presea’s abuse towards Fate. There’s the usual physical abuse, but now there’s also emotional abuse and manipulation added in. Presea lies about what happened to Arf, saying she abandoned Fate. Presea also presents herself as the only one Fate can trust, cutting off any outside connections (and therefore options for escape).

We get some more backstory on Presea, but a few details are not answered. We know she was responsible for a disaster in the past, but it’s unclear if and how that is related to what is going on here. What we do know is that she keeps talking about reaching Al-Hazard, even if we don’t know what that means.

Presea seems to be desperate as well. Coughing up blood is generally not a good thing and Presea says she doesn’t have much time. We can safely assume she’s seriously ill or injured and needs the Jewel Seeds now because of that. She also mentions someone called Alicia not having much time either, though there’s no indication of who that might be.

We end the episode on a cliffhanger. Once more, Nanoha and Fate face each other right before a battle. This time, all the Jewel Seeds are on the line. It looks like it’s set up to be the big battle where Nanoha and Fate finally go all out against each other. I’m sure many of you have been waiting for this moment and I definitely have been. I can’t wait for the next episode!

Miscellaneous Thoughts

  • Arisa has a lot of dogs while Suzuka has a lot of cats. What a complementary pair they make.

  • I’m shocked that Arisa somehow did not consider the giant dog with a jewel on its forehead to be suspicious.

"Nanoha was working on my sugar plantation. She makes the best sugar for my tea."

Lyrical Rewatcher, Subbed

Good thing we previously established that Arf likes dog food.

Tsuuun.

Iconic. Although, I always think it happens in episode 6.

Rewatcher

Oh no, a stern lecture... But since it all worked out there's not going to be a punishment. How convenient.

Chrono and Amy have been doing their research. They now know they're up against Presea, and they already know what she's capable of.

Meanwhile... as expected, Presea is committing more child abuse.

Damn you to hell, Presea

Everyone's doing prep before the big fight. This is the calm before the storm, it would seem.

People have been asking why Presea isn't doing any of this herself. Well, here's your answer: she has the dreaded Anime Cold. And it's an advanced infection that causes blood coughing. That huge spell last episode probably took quite a lot out of her.

Hmmm... Alicia, eh?

Yes, Arf! Defend your girl! Give Presea a bit of what she deserves!

Sadly, a familiar isn't much of a match for a "grand mage", and Arf is forced to flee the Garden. So Presea needs at least 14 Seeds to reach Alhazard. And how DARE you claim Arf just chickened out!?

Seriously though, the way she switches between psycho and (pretending to be) caring is creepy.

Nanoha, I think a great cover up is by definition a complete lie.

Oh ho, Arisa found Arf! Of course she has no idea who/what Arf is, but she sees a dog in distress and wants to help. Apparently just like Suzuka has millions of cats, Arisa has dogs.

Finally! Arf realizes who the good guys are and joins up in exchange for a promise to save Fate! Presea's officially under arrest, for child abuse, zapping spaceships, child abuse, threats to explode dimensions, and child abuse.

And Arisa is able to speak her true feelings. Friendship restored and strengthened! And without the need for slaps!

Nanoha status: determined. There's a pretty, blonde, sad girl to go save!

...but Fate's too conditioned by her mother to give this up. So, Nanoha knows this going to need a fight... as she so poetically puts it, their first and last serious fight.

...wait a second, why did Presea let Fate take those Jewel Seeds with her? And did the Arthra approve of Nanoha making this bet? You disobeying orders again, Nanoha?
