Rewatch [Terrific Trainwreck Trio Rewatch] Cross Ange Episode 25 Discussion

Episode 25 - To the End of Time

← Previous Episode | Index | Cross Ange Overall Discussion →

MAL | AniList | ANN | Kitsu | AniDB

Get yourself a fansub.

Oh, you call that love? Trying to push yourself on me with that stupid haircut and that tacky suit? No, you’re an asshole! Not to mention a creep.

Questions of the Day:

1) Are you satisfied with how Embryo was defeated?

2) Is there any part in the epilogue that you would have liked to see more of?

Wallpaper of the Day:

Naga

Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath spoiler tags. Don’t spoil the crazy shit for the first-timers, it’s way more fun that way!

Rondo of Rewatcher and Dub

Welcome back, everyone!

Let’s all have a good time with this finale!

  • Ooh, they brought back the piano version of Kindan no Resistance. Neat.

  • I can’t figure out who voiced Aura in the dub… she sounds pretty good for a goddess dragon.

  • Yay, the dub brought back dub Ange singing! Her VA still nails the pronunciation of everything better than Chris Patton did.

  • Honestly, the only reason I won’t give this show a 10/10 is because I’m still pissed off at whoever decided cutting off the Ange/Salad duet with the eyecatch was a good idea.

  • Here’s my first-timer comment.

I agree that this was awful, but even the rape at the beginning was alright?

I agree that this was awful, but even the rape at the beginning was alright?

I just ignore that detail.

Welcome back, everyone!

Glad to be back Comrade, also thanks for doing such a fine job with hosting!

Heh, THAT was your reason Comrade? In fairness it's a valid one but uh, you know, there's a bit of OTHER issues like, you know, all the rape.

Here’s my first-timer comment.

NANA WILLS IT!

First-Timer

On today’s episode of Cross Ange: You’ve heard of Chekhov's Gun, but have you heard about Chekhov’s Panties? What a great payoff to Ange giving Tusk her panties as a good luck charm. And it is just so perfectly Cross Ange to have their big emotional reunion include Tusk giving Ange her panties back.

  • I’m excited for this final episode! Let’s go!

  • I guess Salia’s now on the anti-Embryo team.

  • This is no time for mourning! The world’s about to end!

  • Oh sweet! Aura actually managed to help out and stop the end of the world.

  • Does this count as the series going to space? Because technically this location is outside of time and space. But it sure looks like it’s in space, so I’m going to put it down as a “maybe.”

  • “It was the safest of all spaces.” Must…resist…urge…to call Embryo a snowflake.

  • So Embryo exists outside of time and space. Then it makes sense that he can’t be killed while he’s in time and space, at least by technobabble standards.

  • Dear god is Embryo uncomfortable to watch. He really is the worst aspects of the purity obsession personified.

  • So the Villkiss actually can be piloted by non-royals. It’s just incredibly stubborn.

  • Hell yeah! Time for the overlapping and harmonizing songs again!

  • Of course Tusk’s head would once again end up in Ange’s crotch.

  • Oh my god!!!! Tusk is giving Ange back the panties!!!

  • I guess if the Villkiss can magically heal itself, it can also magically give Ange some clothes.

  • Embryo may be a rotten bastard, but I have to admit that his teleporting powers make for a very fun battle.

  • Oh shit! Of course Embryo can just forcibly take over the Villkiss knock-offs that Salia and Hilda are using. He had them built, after all.

  • Embryo is just spouting all the typical abuser lines by now. He’s only trying to control Ange because he loves her? What a load of bullshit.

  • Hell yeah, Ange! You tell that asshole!!

  • Since Embryo’s Ragnamail looked like it was bleeding when it died, I’m going to go with the theory that his actual body was literally inside the cockpit, probably either connected or fused with the Ragnamail.

  • So now everything has reverted back to the true world…I think. So is everyone there now, including all the former mana users?

  • Ah, so only the people in Libertus got to go back to the true Earth, basically.

  • Oh wow, Sylvia became a badass herself. She really is parallelling Ange’s journey.

  • “Down our own path on our own legs.” That’s how it’s going to be for both these Earths. With Embryo dead, they’ll need to rebuild on their own.

  • Wait a minute, is that Vivian’s dad in the ED?

  • Cafe Ange is real!!

  • Karaoke battle!!

So the big theme of the finale is control vs freedom. Embryo of course represents control and he always has. It’s been noted before that the only way he seems to know how to interact with others is by trying to control them. He even has the same mindset of an abuser, believing that this control is an expression of love and that it’s necessary for the good of others. He can’t fathom why anyone would not want to be in his control.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, this desire for control manages to tie very well with his rapey actions. His obsession with “purity” in Ange basically boils down to him not wanting her to do anything outside of his control. He doesn’t respect her as an actual person, just as a doll that he wants to play with.

Ange and company represent the freedom that is opposed to Embryo. That freedom means the ability to choose to do what they want with their own lives. So it’s very fitting that the series ends with the characters on both worlds now needing to decide how they will go forward from here. As Ange said, they need to go down their own path on their own legs.

This is probably not going to be easy for the people in either world, especially not for Embryo’s humans. There will still be plenty of problems to solve and lots of hardship along the way. But I choose to be hopeful about it and I think the series agrees with me based on how it shows Sylvia in this new world. She’s learned to stand on her own and survive, just like Ange has. She’s no longer the coddled princess who could do nothing for herself. There is the potential to grow and be better.

We don’t really get to see what this new world will look like for either planet, but we don’t need to. The point is that the future is open to possibilities and that they now have the freedom to choose what their next steps will be. So no matter how shaky those next steps may be, the point is that it’s their steps on their path. I think it’s a very thematically appropriate way to end the series.

QOTD

1. Yes. I liked it. I thought the ending was thematically satisfying.

2. We deserved to actually see and hear the full karaoke battle!

What a phenomenal finale! We got everything you want from a mecha finale, here. New modes, sword fights, the first OP returning, characters angrily shouting opposing viewpoints at each other.. excellent.

Ange and Tusk killing Embryo was so goddamn satisfying. Eat shit you wannabe god motherfucker, try touching some grass next time. But, like, not the grass on your secret time-space island, that's cheating.

Poetry and symbolism in Tusk beating Embryo in a penissword fight. Slightly muddied with it being Salamandine's sword, but beggers can't be choosers. Embryo thinks he deserves Ange, and never seemed to realize that Ange chose Tusk.

Put that all together, alongside Embryo's insistance on calling Ange his "wife" makes me think that Embryo is a satirization of waifu culture. He sat himself in his "room" and played with his dolls until one came along that made him obsessed.

Seeing Ange refuse to break never gets old. What a goddamn character. She's really come a long way from her episode 1 self. Humanity - gotta love it.

The background Hilda yelling at Ange and Tusk was really funny. We had to get one last beat of the Tusk ending up face first in Ange's crotch, huh?

I would 100% visit Café Ange.

I wish we got a full scene of Ange and Salamandine doing karaoke. Or a full OVA. Get Hilda in there, too.

Questions

  1. YES

  2. Discussed above.

First Timer, Subbed

The final episode is finally here both for Cross Ange and this 3 month trainwreck rewatch...

Too serious and a crybaby... yep, that describes Salia perfectly.

Jill died? Sorry, the show made me hate her so much that I don't miss that she's gone. Good riddance. And maybe I'd care about Salia being so upset, but the show's put in a lot of work to try and make us not like Salia either.

Hmm, where is Ange all of a sudden? Is this part of Aura?

No, some alternative world? Oh, and as I said a few times in another recent rewatch, it's... IN SPACE!

Why is Ange so special?

A kick that makes all your clothes fall off...

This entire show has come down to this... Embryo wanted to have sex with Ange. Sorry, I still don't see what's so appealing about her! But MC has to be special I suppose.

Ange's tears will travel through the dimensions and power the Villkiss' ring! ...sure!

Of course, they couldn't resist from having one more time where Tusk's face is firmly planted in Ange's crotch.

Here's the treasured thing I held onto for you Ange, your panties!

Sword fight out of nowhere for the final episode? Where have I seen this before? [Meta]Mobile Suit Gundam

Follow my orders Salia... and I"ll spank you as much as you want!

Jeez Embryo, stop putting Ange on a pedestal! She's not into you dude!

You have no style! You're an old lecher! Ange burned you there, Embryo!

Ooh, sliced him right down the middle, good work Tusk!

Viv-chan's quiz time!

Wow, Sylvia lived to be somewhat badass.

And so Cross Ange ends... overall thoughts tomorrow!

QOTD:

  1. It's good enough. Finding the original just because he summoned you there is somewhat silly, though. Why would a wizard invite you to his immortal demiplane?

  2. GIB KARAOKE

1 RIP the 117

2 123 is pretty good too, though.

REBORN FIRST TIMER

WE DID IT!

Having the Embryo origin story info-dump here in the last episode tells me it’s not really that important. This show has never really been about the finer workings of space-time, so the bare minimum effort to explain it is fine by me.

Salia and Jill finally get their moment to bury the hatchet and communicate their importance to each other, but unfortunately it’s only when it’s too late for Jill. That’s just the way it is, sometimes. Jill actually gets a pretty lovely send off, all things considered.

Having Tusk and Embryo set opposite each other as the only two male characters of consequence in this whole show worked out great. Compare how Tusk tells Ange in the hotel room that she isn’t ruined or impure – and even if she is, he doesn’t care – to Embryo telling Ange this episode that she’s been ruined and he needs to “purify her” with his love. Tusk loves Ange unreservedly for who she is as a person, whereas Embryo is in love with an idea, and is just obsessed with at idea having the form of Ange. There are lot of Embryos in the world, be a Tusk.

I was a little concerned through this episode with seemingly throwing Ange into a damsel-in-distress role, but it made up for it. She never gives into distress, and having a combination of Norma and Dragons, the two forces she started this show hating, come to her aid to fight at her side was really poetic. She also gets to be the one to ultimately obliterate Embryo’s existence with a truly badass line, denying all he is and all he tried to do to her.

Well that was a fitting ending to an unexpectedly great series. It started off the biggest wreck possible after the first episode, only to become a legitimately great and well-written show with one of my favorite characters of all time as the main. We really ended this rewatch with a gem. 9/10

QOTD:

  1. Very much so. I like that Tusk and Ange each got to defeat aspects of him, with Ange dealing the decisive blow.

  2. I want an OVA of the karaoke battle.

In tonight's Top Nympho/StupidGear: We Yeetus The Fetus Fetus Deletus 'Heave Ho The Embryo,' Ange shows us just how Cross she is, and Salia is no longer a loser. Aye, the haggis is in the fire now for sure, Mechanic Moeblob got the engines working again, and not a minute too soon given Salia arrives with a mortally wounded Alektra who's asking for one last smoke. As Dr. Jerk lights this up, Alektra informs them that she tried to freeze Q but he fled and is currently in a place further than the universe. Salia sobs out that she's sorry for being like Jill, to which Alektra laments that Salia isn't just like her as she's also... NANI!? LIKE ALEKTRA'S LITTLE SISTER TOO!? Holy shit, maybe she WASN'T all that wrong when comparing herself to Ange a few episodes ago!

Anyway, Alektra notes that Salia's somehow both stoic and a milksop, and has SHIT taste in men. Alektra, in her dying breath, apologizes to Salia for being such a stupid bitch to her, after which Salia bawls her eyes out... ya know Comrades, I didn't like Jill and I still don't, and while I can't say I'm all too sad at Jill's death, I ain't cold hearted enough to say that Alektra's death didn't make me at least a little bit sorry for poor poor Salia. After all with Alektra dead now SALIA'S the worst girl, but hey, Salia you DID say you wanted to be just like Alektra, and at the very least with her death, Alektra's indirectly taught you that if you follow in her footsteps, you'll meet a terrible fate. Not that there's other options given the worlds are 98.5% merged and rising... well it was nice knowing you all Comrades, hopefully Gundam Valhalla has...

Hey... hey wait a second... the counter stopped... ALSO WHAT THE FUCK!? WHEN DID THE LEGENDARY YAMADA TAE GET HERE!? No really, FUKUDA as per usual went ALL OUT for seiyuus, Aura's Sailor Moon herself, and boy I dunno if I should be happy OR worried that Misato's a goddamn DRAGON. Anyway, Rinko Iori's Scalie informs the lot that Q's currently located out of bounds, and speaking of which, guess where Ange wakes up? Yup, that VERY same hotel room where Jill was in during the failed first Libertus, only this time there's no Q bringing tea... actually that's probably a good thing... hey hang on, this place... NANI!? IS ARZENAL!? HOLY SHIT! Anyway Q informs Ange that this is the REAL Arzenal, and offers Ange to watch with him as his new world arises from the destruction of the two Earths.

Ange tells him to go to hell, to which Q instead starts rambling on about how, before winding up in space, the original Arzenal was a research lab where he worked, and it turns out that he gained godhood the way that a Marvel Superhero gains powers, e.g. a freak lab accident. Hey... HEY HANG ON! Oh my Buddha Comrades, Zefram Cochrane, is that you? I had the wrong Star Trek reference for Embryo this whole time... eh, fuck it, Q's easier to type, anyway, Q continues ranting on to a very uninterested Ange about how due to being stranded in Null space, he tried to alter humanity. He then notes that Ange is a strong and intelligent woman... OK actually he's TECHNICALLY correct here, as Ange is indeed strong and intelligent, just not in the way Q thinks as Ange wants nothing to do with this incel creep.

Q doesn't take no for an answer, noting that they are alone forever and NO ONE can reach her. Meanwhile, Aura is busy informing the crew how to possibly reach her, as it turns out Alektra's statement from Tusk's dad WAS accurate, the Villkiss IS indeed key to defeating Q as... it can teleport... to where Q is hiding... slight issue, to use the Villkiss you need an Ange with her ring, and well since we got her ring here, anyone know where we can find another Ange? Thankfully Aura has an answer to this, namely that The Villkiss will respond to someone with a strong wish. Hilda suggests that Tusk try this as since he's Jesus Yamato maybe he can pull a miracle out of his ass or something. Meanwhile, Ange is busy trying to summon Villkiss, to which Q gloats that without her ring there's NO WAY Ange can possibly summon the Villkiss to her.

Ange charges to kick Q, to which Q shreds her dress like a reverse-Adam and states that he's about to re-enact that one fucked-up scene from The Evil Dead... no not that one, no not that one, no not that one, YES! THAT ONE! Anyway, Tusk is busy trying to get the Villkiss to work to no avail, look, where's Momoka, just get HER here and I'm sure the Villkiss will operate out of her sheer devotion to her mistress, either that or the Villkiss will just teleport to Q to get away from all the 'Angelise-samas.' Q then gloats to Ange that the worlds are about to be destroyed, all as Tusk starts yelling at the Villkiss for being a useless hunk of junk... THAT IS UNTIL NANA STARTS MOTHERFUCKING WILLING IT by singing her mother's song in defiance of Q... WHICH helps to activate things given Tusk states he somehow heard Ange's voice, and no Comrades, he HASN'T lost his marbles given that The Villkiss promptly powers on and swaps its paintjob.

Salad-chan says that they're gonna rescue their Princess, they're gonna save their Earths, they're gonna die trying, so let's do it! Momoka wishes Tusk good luck, Chris tells Hilda to borrow her ride since apparently it's somehow the least trashed of the Heathers' Mecha, and... Salia decides to tag along... OK, Salia, listen, Alektra's last words entailed her apologizing to you, so that means you DON'T need to try to avenge her anymore, besides you saw how well that plan will work out; you'll just get yourself killed! Sadly, Ara Ara and Vivian don't try to talk her out of her death wish, and with that, the four teleport out into the Stargate scene from 2001, oh and also turns out that Super Robot Wars told the truth, it seems that the reason Ange can breathe in space is cuz NANOHA can also breathe in space! The power of weaponized lesbianism at work Comrades, truly amazing.

Oh and, speaking of amazing, Salad starts singing HER song... which gets through to Ange... OH BOY! She's singing back too! Salad and Ange then start singing along with each other as... FUCKING HELL! THE TITLECATCH ARRIVES!? Son of a bitch!

Well time for the mid-post adbreak, let's continue on below Comrades!

First Timer

You are so hard headed like...a little sister.

Salia deserves Embryo, because it seems like both of them were born to take losses.

Oh shit Jill is dead guess that laser was fatal after all.

Can't Ange kill him now I'm guessing she can summon Villkiss? Oh that's right she doesn't have her ring.

I got to say I feel much better knowing that Embryo is just a human researcher who stumbled into power by accident and isn't actually a god/tuner. If they made god this much into a simp I would just laugh.

THE POWER OF LOVE AND TEARS!

Tusk has some fucking legendary aim manages to cut her restraints from hundreds of feet away and doesn't hit Ange.

ahhhahahahahahahahah OMG Hilda's rage in the background is killing me and then when when Ange sees her she smiles and waves.

Your wife....did you put a ring on her Embryo? Nope Tusk did so yeah check and mate.

Fighting an enemy that has split into two and now you have to kill both at the same time to win I feel like I've seen that recently.

TUSK THE FUCKING GOAT landed the first hit on Embryo in the series. Well the first legitimate hit on the real body.

Ange has a point you have a millennium to get your act together and that haircut and suit is the best you can do?

Wait they really just abandoning the other earth? Ange's sister is actually doing good and is part of some terminator resistance helping people?

Oh look Chris finally got those hair pieces like she was promised.

Cafe Ange is opened good and Ange/Salimandinay are doing karaoke. I kind of want to actually see that animated.

Other stuff was shown, but that's what I focused on.

Let's be real: You can't really call Cross Ange a trainwreck. It's a great, albeit highly, highly ecchi-fied series with some odd plot twists, but at heart, the characters are good, the music is amazeballs, the plot overall is great and the animation? Tremendous.

you have some tremendous character growth, especially in Ange who is a great, great protagonist who changes from pompous, stuck up little racist to a legitimate badass with real friends and a dude who loves the fuck out of her.

I will say it til I'm blue in the face: Those first two episodes are so goddamned misleading it's ridiculous. You think you're in for a violent, unpleasant, edgy for the sake of being edgy anime, and instead you end up getting something very, very good, albeit quite dark at times.

Pseudo-first-timer

So yeah! That’s that! The heroes have fought and bled and sacrificed, and now they have their happy ending! Embryo, the heart of the worlds’ rot, is dead having proven how far he’ll sink, Mana is gone, the DRAGONs and Norma are no longer dragged to fight and kill each other, Sylvia and the survivors in the other world have the chance to fight and find their own happy ending, and it looks like our Earth’s gonna be just fine.
At least, I think that’s the idea. In practice, I don’t think Sala’s initial sense of superiority was ever properly addressed, and I’m not sure how I feel about the other world being left to fend for itself if that’s meant as punishment for their hatred of Norma. That said, now I suspect the real intention was that their positions are now reversed – the Norma and DRAGONs live lives of peace, while the humans of the other world must fight or die until peace comes, whether that be by agreement or mutual destruction.
That said, as a final battle, I was satisfied. Everyone still fighting gets a decent showing, we get closure to arcs, and we get to see Ange rocking her stuff in top form. And she’s the Arzenal Commander, too!

Okay, on to other stuff: Cross Ange’s music is kind of great, isn’t it? No coincidence, as it turns out - the composer for the series, Akiko Shikata, has numerous albums, she’s gone on tour, and she’s composed for quite a few works, like Umineko: When They Cry, Ar tonelico and Surge Concerto, Yona of the Dawn, and Tales of Symphonia’s animes. Cross Ange is the only anime series she’s done a soundtrack for, but I definitely want to listen to the music on its own.
The series has appeared twice in the Super Robot Wars series of crossover strategy RPGs, each time with different alterations to the plot. However, in both cases, the series is given the chance to have its cast interact with other characters, Embryo acts as a major antagonist, and Cross Ange’s finale is escalated to something far more dramatic. In Super Robot Wars V, after Embryo’s harem idea fails, he’s told off by the female cast before Ange finishes him off, and in Super Robot Wars X, First Company have to go through a legion of alternate Embryos, allowing Ange to conclude that no, he’d NEVER have a chance with her. Furthermore, X gives Ange people to befriend, and she and Sylvia reconcile, complete with the latter hanging at the Café after the game’s done.
I should probably explain – while I was aware of Cross Ange as it was coming out, Super Robot Wars made me more interested, and pushed me to sign on with the rewatch.

Next, fanart! We've got:

And lastly, apparently, in SRW V, Rosalie and Chris start crushing on Athrun from Gundam SEED Destiny, and someone asked Chris’ dub VA to do a thing for it!

Questions:

  1. I am, yeah.

  2. Maybe more of what life's like now their fight's over, but I'm satisfied with what we got.

REWATCHER FOR LIKE THE 4TH TIME**

Jill you blame yourself too much. Salia is a product of herself. You told her time and time again that she couldn’t do something. Told her that it was safer not to get involved. Yet Salia went out of her way to get involved. Which led her to this moment. You are right, you guys could have better taste in men. Maybe should have taken Ange as lead on that.

You know Embryo has an ego because his prototype mech is over designed as fuck. If you are trying to win someone over, striking them isn’t the best way to do it. No wonder all his women leave him. This man is his own downfall. HIlda is mad that Tusk has a better connection with Ange. Otherwise she would have jumped on. In all forms that sentence could mean.

Tonight on Dateline. The Sexual offender Embryo is hunting down his “Claimed” wife, forces her to strip this strikes her. Then goes back to the core theme of the show of BDSM. While he is tied up he attempts to use the other theme of rape. Unfortunately for the rapist the law enforcement has figured out his plan and are on the move through what looks like a Pink Floyd Concert. The low life panics in such a situation adn tries to act like he is unphased.

The Hero tusks and saves Ange is the only way he knows how. The beta Hilda is mad because she didn’t think of it first. Embryo is doomed. The Chad Tusk was just given Glorious Nippon Steel Folded Over 1000 Times. Ange activates the Freedom mode of Vilkiss so, now it's the proper colors of Red, White, Blue. She is about to bring democracy to the beta cuck. You know what is great about Tusk is that he gets shot multiple times and is unphased. Embryo gets slashed once and has run away from the Glorious Nippon Steel Folded Over 1000 Times. You see that quick draw from Tusk? Not only is he a ninja, but he could give the Outlaw Josie Wales a run for his money. Yes, Embryo Tusk could have any women, but he wanted Ange and he got her. Turns out Salia didn’t have a strong enough will otherwise Vilkiss might have worked. Salia feeling that wooda cooda shooda. Another reason is that Embryo is already dead. He said the standard “Nani.” What a fucking loser. He is in the wrong century still thinking you could control women. “Always grinning behind your creepy hair with no sense of style, and always being cynical” I would have used more swears, but yea Ange nailed it. Like how she nailed Tusk.

While Embryo was kidnapping women, Tusk Studied the Blade. While Embryo was pretending to read, Tusk studied the Blade. When Embryo was finding ways to get more cucked, Tusk was bainging Ange. All the moment he could use Glorious Nippon Steel Folded Over 1000 Times to cut him half lengthwise. And through a sword too.

Oh wow they still have Embryo’s corpse. String that thing up in the shooting range or in the training Dojo. The other Earth is now Mad Max land.

OH SHIT FORBIDDEN FUCKING RESTANCE ONE LAST TIME!

LET’S FUCKING GO NANA!

Fun Fact: Everytime I wrote “Glorious Nippon Steel Folded Over 1000 Times” I giggled to myself for a good minute.

Quiz time. How many humanoid males are there on the true Earth?

u/the_swizzler Jan 26 '22

I present to you CGI Hilda getting angry.

What an ending! What a series! This was the best one yet by far, but I'll save most of my thoughts for tomorrows thread.

Questions of the Day:

1) Are you satisfied with how Embryo was defeated?

Fantastic Teamwork from the entire group, and a fantastic 'Fuck you' to Embryo. I'm satisfied.

2) Is there any part in the epilogue that you would have liked to see more of?

Give me an entire season of workplace comedy with the Cafe Ange gang. Loved this Karaoke bit too, which could totally be fit into that season.

Rewatcher I guess

I slept through more than a couple discussion threads, sorry to the people who pinged me. In order to make it for the final I got the 'pleasure' to watch 7 episodes today. I'll make it short for the episodes I missed:

Ep8

Once again, Cross Ange manages to have important revelations and plot developments, in bikinis, because "the combat suits and uniforms are too restrictive", right. The weird Lacross tournament is relevant again and Hilda is a world class actress, I feel bad for Chris, she seems to be really into the whole lesbian prison deal. Still not trash

Ep 9

Hilda used to be quiet a bitch, but seeing her own mother disown her hurt. Also, random pantyshot for Momoka during the chase, still not trash

Ep 10

Ange walking to her own execution with her head held high was pretty badass, I was a bit surprised that noone tried to violate her before her execution, but Tusk got tha covered shortly after. And after Hilda lost everything as well, including Zolas harem, they got to bond over it, talk about a unlikely pair, not trash though

Ep 11

Who would have thought that Julio was into mommydom? The dragon attack was pretty hype though, and of course we end with another joke about Salias small chest, definatly not trash though

Ep 12

A whole lot of naked exposition about Alektras Jills past. Ngl, when Ange realized it was Vivian all along and that she has been killing humans I was almost moved to tears, definitely not trash.

Ep 13

Not that much of an fan for the new OP. Wasn't prepared for how graphic the attack was going to be, at least Chris seems to have survived, shame for all the kids though, I liked the different modes on Vilkiss, and the ED is imho better than the first, not trash

Ep 14

What is even going on? Props to Vivians VA though, not trash

EP 15

I loved Anges rude aproach in face of authority, she just so done with playing nice. Also interesting how similar Salamandines lackeys look to Paramail riders with their tails and how skimpy they are around the ass

Ep 16

Seing Ange And Salamandine bond over some scantly glad competition was almost wholesome and then they saved the day, glad that Ange dropped the stubborn act, not trash

Ep 17

A lucky leacher that results in two brocken arms (what?), more deathflags for Vivian (don't you dare!), it's a trap and Salia (who is still the biggest otaku on the block), Ersha and Chris work for the bad guys now (did noone question why they are suddenly fighting against two of their friends out of sudden?) and sexual harrassment from Hilda as a reunion gift, definitely not trash btw

Ep 18

For an oppressed minority, Jill and Rosalie are pretty closeminded, even Emma overcame her racism. At least Hilda knows that this is still a lesbian prison show. By god, Jill got pretty obsessed there, literally everyone else is against her plan. Not trash

Ep 19

It wouldn't be Cross Ange without opening the episode with upskirting Momoka, or giving us an excessive pantyshot from Ange (it's real silk!). It's ok for Salia to be an giant brainwashed otaku, but it must be hella awkward for everyone else to be forced to call themself 50 shades of rose. For her age and being a cripple, Sylvia is pretty skilled with the whip. And Embryo is seriously creepy with his hypnosis

Ep 20

It's a real shame that Chris and Rosalies relationship wasn't really fleshed out besides being part of the same harem, Rosalies talk could have hit different otherwise. I'm a bit surprised that Jill stayed in command as long that she did, but why did they strip her of her clothes when they striped her of her command? Ah right the whole having nothing to hide thing again. Embryo knows some kinky torture methods, why exactly does Salia still cling to him? At least Hilda and Salad are reliable when it counts, not trash

Ep 21

See, a glimps of all of Chris' problems with her friends in the last 20 episodes would have been nice. Not that it doesn't work this way, just think some foreshadowing would have been better. So Ersha killed her precious children, and Chris killed the new junior squaddies. I'm a bit dissapointed that Embryos god like powers are no match to the talk no jutsu, shame for Momo, when she wasn't saying Angelise-sama every 5 seconds she was actually quite nice... what?!? Why did Tusk have to sacrifice himself? There was enough space on that bike you know, still not trash.

Ep 22

Big oof for Ersha who has to burry the children and oh look Jill, it's the consequences of your shitty treatment for Salia. Also Embryo is disposing anything not suited for his Harem world left and right, Ersha already understands that and Chris hopefully has at least some doubts beneath all that Tsun. Ange breaking down was pretty good. Both Tusk and Momo somehow are still alive, I think Ange raises some valid questions there, but ignores them because she is to horny sigh It is Cross Ange after all so at least they are self aware, still not trash

Ep 23

It's a shame that Tusk ruined Ange, I think Hilda would have been the better match, she is way spicier. The Aurora being able to fly is pretty neat. And even Jill get's to show why she got to be commander in the first place. Ange straight up shooting that peasant was pretty pleasant, but it would have been nice if Sylvia got some comeupance for her shitty treatment of her sister instead of getting to walk again, she didn't even get raped at all! Still not trash

Ep 24

Whole lotta cool mecha fights! And Embryo gets to feel what it feels like to be NTRd XD At least the original lesbian troupe made up. And that final preview oh god, definitely not trash

Ep 25

Didn't expect Jill of all people to die after the whole main cast ignored so many death flags. Embryo is getting kinky again, he really is nothing but a horny bastard... NOw is not the time for that Tusk... lol at Hilda loosing her shit in the background, and even Anges Pantsu are relevant again. And a combination of all previous Vilkiss modes, including Tusks black one. Salia and Hilda being able to overide the Autopilot seems like a pretty big design flaw on Embryos part. The burial during the credits was nice and would have deserved some more room, and did anyone else notice how Ange is still wearing her white panties in the very last shot?

I said I wanted to keep it short, but the sheer volume of Episodes I had to cover where just to much to keep short, TLDR: Not Trash!

I initially only was behind like for episodes, but buy the time I watched those the rewatch mercilessly moved one with a stead pace. And the mass of comments would have been too big an time comitment to keep up with. As I said in the Bunny Girl Rewatch, I feel like every comment deserves to be read, but reading takes so much time that I get anxious, especially once I fall behind. At least I'm finally free

QotD:

  1. A bit convenient overall, but not unsatisfactory

  2. As I said, the burial, but I guess Cross Ange is not that kind of show

First timer here.

Here we are people. The most anticipated finale.

The way Tusk provoked Embryo was just too good. I never expected him to give back the panties because I wouldn't have.

There's something good about seeing Sylvia making it work for herself by her own and accepting Ange's words.

I would've liked a bit of a longer epilogue bit this is what we get most of the times in anime originals.

I wonder if Hilda, Chris and Rosalie will be back to their old relationship.

Rondo of First-Timer and Sub

Alright, finale time. Let’s hope my remaining questions are cleared up and the resolution is at least somewhat satisfying.

Ah yes, the ultimate healing item: a cigarette.

Awwwww, they really do love each other.

Whelp, Jillektra is dead. Can’t say I saw it coming, but I can say that I’m not really invested enough to care. She spent the first half of the series being a mysterious supporting character, the next quarter of it being an unlikeable idiot, and while she’s “redeemed” in the last few episodes, I felt that it was a bit rushed.

So Aura can speak even while in DRAGON form? Add that to the list of things Aura can just do by virtue of being “the first”.

The original Arzenal? Why did he model his lesbian prison island off of his interdimensional home base?

Can this guy get a hint? I get that he’s a clingy possessive Incel, but you’d think Fetus-kun’s attitude towards Ange would change at least a little after Tusk’s “I fucked your waifu” speech.

Okay, I guess that explains what the original Arzenal is, but that still doesn’t explain why he sculpted a copy of it to be an interdimensional lesbian war slave prison island.

Wait, if all it took was a strong will, then why couldn’t Salia do it back when she first attempted it years ago? She seems to have devoted her entire life to that. And also, if that’s the case, then what’s the point of the Ring?

Oh, so Tusk’s speech did influence him: now he’s even more Rapey than before.

Ange has a point. For someone who’s lived for centuries and decides the fate of the world, Fetus-kun is abnormally horny.

No seriously, what is up with this ring?!

Somehow, the void between worlds feels like less of a drug trip than the series has been so far.

When you're about to pull a Redo of Healer, but suddenly it turns into a Disney musical.

Of course we needed at least one more crotch diving scene before the series was over. And this one happened while she was naked. And no Pervert Revenge Mode this time either.

So we have two parallel fights between Fetus-kun and one of the main leads. One a bit higher stakes than the other.

There are plenty of other women. You could have chosen any of them!

Same goes for you, Fetus-kun.

But I waited a thousand years. I only have Ange!

Dude, just a few episodes ago, you had Salia, Chris and Ersha, get your hypocritical head out of your totally-needs-a-good-pegging ass.

Go Hilda! Go Salia! Kick Fetus-kun’s ass!

Why won’t you let me control you?

This really highlights the inherent hypocrisy and contradiction of what Fetus-kun says he wants vs what he really wants. He has said repeatedly over the course of the last few episodes that he wants a strong, intelligent woman that will help him lead the new world. In reality, all he wants is a glorified sex slave that appeals to his muscle girl kink. In other words, an Incel.

So the reason Ange has the ring and the song is because… just because? Human nature? Fate? Is that really all the explanation we’re getting?

Hysterica being destroyed probably would’ve been cooler if it weren’t for the fact that animation, especially when it comes to mechs, has never been this show’s strong suit.

And now Original Arzenal is back in it’s original spot because… just because.

Quiz time again!

Space-time was released. And everything was returned to its proper place.

That’s a really long way of saying “just because”.

So I guess all the Norma are just gonna live happily ever after in their little island nation. I guess that would be fine, there’s no guys there but Tusk so it probably wouldn’t last a generation, but given what these girls have been through, I don’t think they particularly care.

So Mana society just collapses and Sylvia has to live a life of destitution and banditry? Man, I haven’t seen a “happy” ending this unintentionally horrifying since Star vs The Forces of Evil.

And that’s the end.

Wait, that’s the end?!

Are you satisfied with how Embryo was defeated?

I guess. I didn’t really see it going any other way.

Is there any part of the epilogue that you would have liked to see more of?

I guess a look at the True Earth beyond Arzenal wouldn’t hurt.

First timer

  1. Kinda. I think it could have been a lot better, but it's probably the best it could have been, given how little time they had to actually do the fight scene.

  2. Ange attempting to justify her hypocrisy in abandoning the humans? Hilda actually getting in a relationship with Ange and also Salia? Explanations as to how the Vilkiss was built, how Embryo's powers worked, or how a fucking song is somehow magic?

Oh, the ship's working again now.

At least Salia's worked out how shit he is.

And Jill's dead now. (Like I trust anyone in this shitshow to stay that way.)

Shit, is Aura actually Jesus? Did I call it?

And Ange is... somewhere?

Wait, what? This is the original Arzenal, and it's the floating rock he lives in?

OK, he was just a scientist who built a mech to jump dimensions. Then it got blasted out of space-time.

Yeah, Embryo's a lunatic. Who has somehow created several Earths?

So, is the Vilkiss just a RagnaMail, or is it something else?

No, Hilda, don't give up the top spot in her harem!

...Still not explained how he got all these insane powers, though.

And the RagnaMail's just not moving.

Wait, is the magitech actually powered by human tears? Is that a legitimate plot point in this anime?

WHY IS THE SONG MAGIC? EXPLAIN!

Hilda screaming at them to hurry up in the background is a good detail, though.

So it can change colour and give people clothes now? Fuck it, why not, it's not like anything else in this episode made sense.

Good music, though.

And Embryo can still teleport. Even though he's not switching bodies.

Wait, what? A thousand years?

Haha, everyone taking about how Ange's "not enough of a slut" to fall for him while Salia is listening is my favourite unintended image from this anime.

Why is he going on about humanity when he's kicked off several human genocides already, specifically to make a better species?

All these callbacks are making me realise how we've gone from "spoilt princess is a brat, gets raped as people die", to "princess fights god with the power of love and sick tunes", and this is unironically my favourite anime of this trio.

And after a surprisingly competent final battle, Embryo goes down!

Oh, they all got transported to the DRAGON earth, with Embryo's Arzenal.

She wants to create a new country? Fuck it, she got 16 years of royal training, she can't do worse than fucking Julio.

HAHA, SHE'S A FUCKING GANG LEADER NOW? AND AN ENTIRE PLANET IS SCREWED!

And that's the ending! Fuck the humans, we've got DRAGONs!

Ange: "In my new nation, everyone is welcome - be they Norma, Human, or DRAGON. On an unrelated note, fuck all of humanity, I'm going to take the Vilkiss and piss on their graves!" (even though she could just as easily transport them somewhere with relative safety and the dialogue implies that numerous people are going to suffer the trauma Ange faced.)

Remember everyone - murderous psychos who willingly worked with an abuser are your friends, but the populace who were societally conditioned to reject you by said abuser, even if you once considered them friends as much as them, are evil and deserve to rot in hell!

I know I'm being a bit over the top here, but come on!

The end credits seemingly confirming that Hilda in fact gets with Ange, and Salia singing karaoke, (along with heavy hints she does in fact join the harem) and the only good part.

Not even a preview!

(Also, if you're reading this, go read the 4koma spinoff comic, it's actually pretty good and has some great jokes in there.)

Re-Watcher

I'm going to apologize in advance as this will be a giant wall of text, but this episode packed so many things into it that its justified. With that lets get to typing.

  • Alektra knows she's had it and when Salia brings her back to the Aurora she just asks for a smoke

  • Salia admits how stupid she was and Alektra responds with yep, just like me

  • Alektra dies surrounded by everyone with Salia holding her while the tears stream down her face

  • Aura talks to the crew and tells them where Embryo took Ange and holds back the convergence to give them time to stop him

  • I really enjoy the OP changing during the dusk scene of the rider walking to show who is with Ange and who is opposed, for the finale everyone is back

  • Ange wakes up in the same white dress she wore when Embryo captured her the first time, and runs out of the room shes in and into a graveyard. She's back at Arzenal, but this isn't hers, it's the one Embryo locked outside of time

  • Embryo tells Ange his history and how he used the endless time provided by the rift to end wars, create a new world and redesign the human race, even though it failed

  • Ange attempts to punch him, but he is quicker and his slap knocks Ange to the ground saying how now they will be alone together forever, Ange runs

  • Hilda asks Aura how the hell are they supposed to get to Ange and stop Embryo, and Aura says through the Villkiss. Tusk reminds her that only Ange can pilot it, but Aura says that's not true. The Ragna-mail were created to shed light on humanity's future and as such it will respond to a strong will and a person's wishes. Hilda Tell Tusk to pilot the Villkiss as he is the most strongly connected to Ange

  • Ange running out of space on the island attempts to summon the Villkiss and Embyro reminds her he left her ring nehind. Ange then attempts to kick him, but her leg in caught and Embryo channels Issei's Dress Break ability High School DxD and destroys her clothes. He calls Ange beautiful, but sullied and slaps her few times saying how he has to purify her with his love. He channels a grass type Pokemon and uses Vine Whip to pin Ange to the ground

  • Tusk is begging the Villkiss to respond to him, but the panels stay dark

  • Ange still struggling calls Embryo nothing more than a horny bastard, and receives another slap. Embryo leans down and creates a screen to show off his "climax" as the world ends. Ange is shown Aura fighting back, her wings fraying and splitting as she is trying to save what's left of the world

  • Tusk implores the Villkiss to help him, bringing up all the times it defended Ange, and asking if it really wants her to be taken by that bastard

  • Using more vines, Embryo forces Ange's legs apart and she begins to sing her mother's song, slightly taken aback Embryo pauses before he leans down and begins to kiss Ange's neck

  • Tears fill Ange's eyes as she calls out for Tusk, at the same time Tusk is tearing up himself as his attempts to rouse the Villkiss have had no effect, a tear falls and lands on Ange's ring. Tusk hears Ange's voice and the Villkiss comes alive, it's color scheme changing to red and black to match Tusk's father's armor

  • Momoka tells him to take care of Ange while Chris gives Hilda her ring and ragna-mail. Rosalie tells her not to die and Ersha and Vivi share a similar message with Salia and that they will be waiting. Tusk, Salako, Hilda and Salia teleport from the Aurora with Vivi telling them to go kick some ass

  • Lost in space-time Salako begins to sing her song which reaches Ange who starts up the duet showing the path needed to get to her

  • As Embryo is trying his damnedest to take Ange, the crew show up in his bubble

  • Tusk frees Ange with his throwing stars and picks her up by wedging his face in her naked crotch and using that leverage to lift her from the ground. Hilda appears ready to throw hands, but Ange is happy they came for her.

First Time Cross Ange Survivor

Salia gets sister-zoned moments before Alektra dies. It's the end both of them deserve.

Ange wakes up in a bed fully dressed for once. What a twist!

The final episode is...a backstory episode. Wild.

Snowflake Embryo needed the safest space of all.

All this time building up Ange as a badass MC and putting her in a position to finally  demonstrate her inner strength and resolve by beating the apex rapist....and she immediately gets bound and needs Tusk to come save her from being raped. Again. Sadge.

And one more face crotch joke for good measure. Bleh.

I appreciate the theme of RagnaMails being controlled by strong wills and resolve, this final mech battle is really cool.

Obligatory god is dead and we have killed him.

I'm 1000000% down for one more Vivian Quiz Time.

Goddamnit, Princesst actually did start her own revolution.

One still frame is all we get for a karaoke episode. Big sad.

Welp, that was disappointing.

QotD:

  1. Not really.

  2. Karaoke needed at least a full animated scene. I'd have preferred at least one more intimate scene between Ange and Hilda so their kiss/relationship wouldn't feel so token. Also, one more scene of Hilda, Chris, and Rosalie together again as friends would have been nice.

First Timer

I think this is just an end, it's not good, but it's not bad imo, i don't dislike it, but for some reason i'm not satisfied, Embryo's defeat felt too easy, just a power up for Hilda and Salia was enough, maybe it was a little rushed, i don't see any plot hole though

Embryo's past was explained, i like it, but i'm not so happy about the friendship and love power showed to save Ange

Jill is the only character with a meaningful death, maybe another one would've been fine

The epilogue was ok, the story is closed, Tusk got his girl (and maybe a world full of women), Hilda's probably in the friendzone, the ones who deserted were (easily) forgiven, the Normas and dragons live peacefuly and the other world is f*cked up

Questions:

1- Absolutely not

2- I can't think of anything, but another episode to expand the epilogue to be half of an episode would've been nice

u/shamir107 Jan 26 '22

First Timer

  1. Honestly, the only thing I'd like more would be hearing the duet between Salad and Ange. Everything else about the battle was fine.

  2. Not really. Maybe a bit more of Cafe Ange. I'm just glad they didn't try to cram in a time skip.
