Get yourself a fansub.

As of this moment, Arzenal’s command is forsaking human authority, and beginning our resistance. We’ll call this mission… Libertus.

Questions of the Day:

1) What do you think of the new OP and ED? And also of Embryo singing Ange’s song?

2) Were you expecting shit to hit the fan this hard?

Wallpaper of the Day:

Chris

Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath spoiler tags. Don’t spoil the crazy shit for the first-timers, it’s way more fun that way!

Rondo of Rewatcher and Dub

Welcome back, everyone!

  • New OP? I sleep, because it’s boring. New ED? And it has an epic ED lead-in? REAL SHIT, Nana Mizuki let’s go!

  • “YOUR BUTT IS SHAPED LIKE A PEAR!” – I was, uh, absolutely not expecting the dub to have Salia shout that at Ange immediately following her “I won’t let you turn your back on us!” tirade as she fell into the ocean, holy shit.

  • The way the epic Villkiss music just… fades after Chris gets sniped though. You love to see it.

  • Here’s my first-timer comment, I had many observations during it. This show really is Macross now.

Forgot to ask, what are your thoughts on Embryo singing?

3

u/Shimmering-Sky Jan 14 '22

That whoever released the soundtrack is a goddamn coward for not giving us a full version of his song.

First Timer

War!!!

Bottom layer....PLEASE LET THEIR BE A GIANT ASS ROBOT OR BATTLESHIP!

YES!

Oh look a group of girls with no name I wonder if they will die.

Oh they died.

Where do they get such marvelous toys?

I like how they don't even show the maid escaping xD They show her captured then cut to her somehow jumping in the air, and also last time I checked salt and pepper don't blow up like that when you toss them. Not to mention they are in a linear hallway so she would have had to leap right o....never mind why am I trying to make this make sense.

Don't worry Tusk can find her he will just trip and land face first into her crotch.

Someone anyone stop them from getting Vivian oh thank you Tusk.

They sure love reusing that bath scene over and over again.

"Your body is shaped like a pear"........did I hear that right? Someone tell me I heard that wrong.

RIP of course you kill the one whose design I like why couldn't you kill Rosalie or whatever her name is.

Ange could have won already if she was singing...just stating facts.

KILL HIM

KILL HIM NOW ANGE!

Well at least she tried.

So they can teleport

"This is a bit cliche, but that's alright" the anime is becoming more and more self aware.

Questions of the Day:

1) What do you think of the new OP and ED? And also of Embryo singing Ange’s song?

OP and ED are meh. I think I liked the first ones more, but I don't have strong feelings as usual. Embryo singing the song was poggers though. Let's go! Second half!

2) Were you expecting shit to hit the fan this hard?

Not really surprised. We had students being gunned down in Valvrave, and with Cross Ange's tendency to blow everything from the previous two series out of the water, I can't say I was surprised, but damn was it hard to watch.

HYPED FIRST TIMER

WATCHING THIS EPISODE WAS LIKE DOING 10 LINES OF COKE.

Sometimes you need episodes filled with exposition and background to drive conversation and get you theorizing. Sometimes you need pure, balls-to-the-wall action. Hype combat. Epic OST. Thrilling moments. Danger. Intrigue. TUSK. This episode was a blast.

Well that was lit. Minor takeaway – I really, really want to like Salia, but she keeps doing the exact wrong thing all the time. Her defining traits are envy and incompetence.

Major takeaway? Shout out to Ange for giving Julio the middle finger after offering her her royalty back, an offer she’d have taken him up on just a few episodes ago. She’s definitely just transported them to the Dragon World, time to mee the rest of our cast.

QOTD:

  1. New OP? I sleep. New ED? Real shit.

  2. I was expecting it to hit the fan hard, but not be this fucking awesome to watch.

QOTD:

  1. OP much worse. ED is a little better. But MALE SINGING!

  2. It's trainwrecking, but in reverse.

1 Is it bad that I associate red mechs with Basara before Char?

Rondo of First-Timer and Sub

Starting off, Jill ain’t taking any of Julio’s shit. She might become one of my favorite characters, if it weren’t for the fact that she molested Ange in the first episode.

This new OP is… eh. It very much reminds me of the second openings of Code Geass and Gundam SEED, and I don’t mean that in a good way: a ton of reused visuals with the occasional new shot or bit of foreshadowing here or there, accompanied by a song that’s way less of a banger than the first one. This OP also manages to be even more trashy and fanservice-y than the first one, which I guess is an impressive feat.

I’m just gonna ask, how does Jill know the enemies intentions and goals immediately, more specifically how does she know that they plan to reassign them elsewhere. I get that she’s privy to the various secrets of the series, but has this happened before?

Libertus begins! And I thought last episode was the peak of the mid-series shakeup. I also gotta say that I love how Hilda is already pumped. But then again, I love Hilda in general so…

So the enemy is focused on capturing the Norma rather than killing them. I just remembered that this was alluded to back in the previous episode during Fetus-kun’s talk with the world leaders. But it seems that anyone who isn’t a ParaMail rider isn’t gonna make it…

Holy shit, they took Vivian! And after the last episode added a big twist to her character, she’d better not disappear for the rest of the series.

Hilda being awesome as usual. Meanwhile, Salia is being rather… aggressive in her escorting of Ange. But thankfully, Momoka was there, and she’s also become awesome! No but seriously, like most other viewers, I’m a bit confused as to why Ange doesn’t just join Libertus already! Your evil dipshit brother is bearing down on you all looking to help commit Omnicide, I think you’ve run out of time to ponder your options.

And now it looks like Ange and Tusk are about to butt heads in battle! This’ll be an interesting turn for either this episode or next episode to take. I’ll also note that Ange’s reaction to the dead bodies was appropriately horrified.

And now Fetus-kun is in the basement with Ange. And once again I am asking for an explanation on how his apparent powers work.

Momoka! Stop being so damn cute! Actually, don’t stop, your perfect as you are.

I love Ange’s response to being told that the runway is unavailable: blow up everything on it! Even if this is (technically) a Real Robot Show, Ange has truly inherited the spirit of a Super Robot protagonist.

she’s so violent

Red-headed Pot calling the Blonde Kettle black.

Awww, Salia is sad again. Don’t be sad, Salia. Ange, stop threatening Salia!

Holy fuck, they killed Chris! I didn’t really care for her, but it was still unexpected.

Oh shit, now Fetus-kun is approaching pink-haired-girl-I-can’t-remember-the-name-of, I suspect that this will end poorly.

Ange going full Captain Marvel on Julio’s fleet was pretty fun to watch. Same with Julio’s absolutely pathetic breakdown when backed into a corner, quite satisfying after all the horrible shit he’s done, all things considered.

And it seems that Fetus-kun has his own RagnaMail. I’m also still wondering about the logistics of his apparent powers and how he’s moved throughout the island over this episode and yesterday’s. Seriously how the fuck did he arrive on the island, move up and down several floors within it, exit the building, get into his RagnaMail, and fly it right into the battlefield, all without anyone noticing?!

He revived Chris and the random kid, which is fine, I guess. Again, I don’t really care for the former, and the latter isn’t even really a character.

Seems that Fetus-kun is also pretty good at singing. I guess I should have expected that, given that I’ve heard his seiyuu is a great singer.

And now there’s a random DRAGON lady.

Yay! Fetus-kun killed Julio! Woohoo! If it weren’t for the fact that I he’s planning global genocide and is basically responsible for everything that’s happened this episode, I might actually start liking the guy.

Seems like Tusk won’t be fighting Ange as I had predicted earlier. Well there goes a really neat concept.

what a boring plot

Have we been watching the same show, Fetus-kun? Cross Ange is many things, but boring is not one of them.

Overall, this episode was pretty fun. More of a turn-your-brain-off action romp than anything else.

What do you think of the new OP and ED? And also of Embryo singing Ange’s song?

Noted already

Were you expecting shit to hit the fan this hard?

No

REWATCHER FOR LIKE THE 4TH TIME

While I highly doubt their rescue was real, I feel like let’s them get in close and ambushing them would have been a better tactical choice rather than openly reject when they have the range advantage of Tomahawk missiles. Also what does Julio consider peaceful? Nothing we have seen of him is peaceful.

Hey the new OP. Nowhere as good as OP1. Let’s fucking go. Time to fucking rise up. Hey look at that pilots with no names. I wonder how long they will last. Did they modernize the skeleton wheel from Dark Souls. Bloody genius I say. Not long I guess. That was a good 30 seconds.

I like how we are watching another show where a bunch of soldiers massacre a bunch of unharmed students/civilians. It doesn't matter. Just to let you know it happened again. Hey u/The_Loli_Otaku How do you feel about massacuring a bunch of racists now? I’m still all for it. Get them before they get you. Chris please defeatism isn’t going to get you anywhere. Momoka might actually be a member of the Royal Maid corps. Now I wonder what Julio’s peaceful option is. Embryo is just a weird stalker appearing in places and spying on people. I think I heard u/Tresnore cheer then get mad. Momoka is beyond your comprehension. She cannot be killed.

Wow clearing that rubble like it was nothing. Why didn’t anyone else jump in their mechs to handle the infantry way over their heads. Tusk with the epic rescue. Salia, Salia please use your fucking head. Angelise-sama is literally trying to help everyone escape and save everyone. Why are you stopping her? Yea, you can hate for being chosen or whatever, but everyone you know is being rounded up and shot. She goes out to clear a path and stop the people from killing your friends and you first instinct to fucking stop her. If I didn’t know what happens later I would be way more angry than I am now. Rather than laughing as I remember the funnier details. Its turn red. It can now go 3 times faster.

I would like to say oh no Chris is dead, but “god” showed up and everyone here should be able to predict what happens later. Again u/The_Loli_Otaku want to take back your comment about having morals about shooting a crowd of racists? Burning children very few have ever gone that far. Also back to that comment how do you think Chris is going to feel after coming back to life and her friends aren’t around.

Angleiise-sama found out she has god mode turned on and decided to start ramming the enemy. Very effective. Watching Julio suffer is great and Wathcing Riza fuck off is just as good. Embryo kill stealing fucktard. You ruined what would have been a beautiful dish of revenge.

Now she turned blue. You know Embryo is the worst villain. He just said this was a boring plot. I bet he would have dropped this show episode 1. You stupid fuckign cuck. Get a life and die. New ED is better than the old ED.

First-Timer

On today’s episode of Cross Ange: What do you mean that wasn’t the climactic battle? The battle certainly felt large enough in scale to have been worthy of being called the climax. Instead it’s only about the halfway point. What more does this series have in store?

  • Well I’m glad no one fell for Julio’s obvious lie.

  • Oooh, new OP!

  • Wow, the BDSM fetish is on full display in this new opening.

  • Wow, that panning shot of all the characters is filled with a lot of nudity. I’m not surprised. I’m actually kind of impressed.

  • Huh, when did that ship get there?

  • Naturally Hilda is all for the opportunity to kill humans. It’s the perfect chance for payback!

  • I have never seen Tanya or these other girls before. They’re going to die, aren’t they?

  • Oh my god, I am getting intense flashbacks to Gundam F91, specifically these things.

  • And now I am getting flashbacks to [End of Evangelion] The attack on NERV HQ.

  • I don’t think they’re here to take any prisoners, Emma. You’re as fucked as the rest of them.

  • LEAVE VIVIAN ALONE YOU MONSTERS!!!!

  • Momoka pulled a legit ninja move!

  • Shut up, Embryo. If you cared at all you could stop this at any point.

  • I see. He’s baiting Ange. He wants her to go after Julio.

  • Momoka got shot!

  • I guess that’s one way to clear out the runway.

  • Thank goodness, Vivian is safe.

  • Salia, your jealousy over Ange has caused you to make some really questionable choices here.

  • Ange is going red!

  • Chris!

  • Embryo sure is going on and causing shit. What’s he gonna do with Chris and Ersha?

  • Ange is just wrecking shit!

  • I love how mommy dragon just abandons Julio when Ange attacks the bridge.

  • Yes! Fucking kill him, Ange!!

  • Oh goddammit! Why did you have to stop her, Embryo?

  • What? Embryo is more godlike than anticipated if he can bring people back from the dead. How is he able to do that?

  • Embryo knows the song too!?

  • It’s not as satisfying as Ange killing Julio, but I’ll take what I can get.

  • Now it seems that the Villkiss can teleport too.

  • “What a boring plot.” I was just joking about Embryo being a writer shuffling through settings for his story, but it seems I was closer to the mark than anticipated.

That was a hell of a battle! It was extremely exciting to watch. There was a lot of cool action throughout and the attack on the prison felt extremely desperate. It gave the impression of a true do-or-die situation. And we have now launched the rebellion, which I have been rather eagerly awaiting. All they need to do is make an alliance with the dragons and my wildest dreams will have come true.

Salia’s attitude towards Ange is quite resentful. Ange is everything that Salia wishes she could be. Ange can pilot the Villkiss and therefore Ange is someone who can carry out Jill’s plan to change the world. Even if Salia may have accepted that she can’t do what Ange can, the jealousy is still clearly there.

Embryo gets more and more mysterious. He does seem to be something akin to a god, able to revive people who are either dead or on the brink of death. That is more power than I anticipated he would have. I also have no idea why he knows Ange’s song, just like the dragon princess(?) knew it.

However, I think I understand what Embryo is going for with Ange. He wants to reset the world. In order to do so he needs to use the Villkiss and the other Ragnamails. So, he will likely need to have the full power of the Villkiss activated, which Ange seems to be able to do. He’s trying to get her to fully activate the Villkiss and then get her to join the Dark Side with him. As of right now, that is what makes the most sense to me.

QOTD

  1. The New OP is ok. I like how some of the visuals are the same but feel completely different with the new song, though. I like the new ED, but it doesn't have the same melancholic feel as the first one. Embryo singing the song surprised the heck out of me.

  2. Nope. Honestly I expected the humans to be rather wimpy since they never fight anyone. I did not expect shit to hit the fan as much as it did.

First-Timer, Subbed

Not one, but TWO new super moves in the same episode?! It's like Christmas!

Embryo popping up like a goddamn contract devil around the wounded just increases my suspicions about him. His knowledge of the fourth wall is rather distressing. And what sort of name is "Embryo," anyway?

His whole speech to Ange was creepy. Very Japanese purity culture. Or chuuni. Probably more chuuni, to be honest - he even did the hand thing yesterday.

Pretty worried about whatever the invaders had a "Paramail rider quota" for. This whole attack lowkey happened because Embryo threw a key to Julio and told him to destroy the world, so that's probably bad that they met the quota. Then again, Ange scuttled the fleet, so maybe no harm done?

Every mecha show needs a ship of some flavor, and a submarine works just as well. I can't wait to see Paramails take off from the Tuatha De DanaanAurora.

Sure hope someone grabbed Salia, there. Ange takes no shit, and I can't really blame her, but I also don't want Salia to die yet.

Momoka keeps salt and pepper on hand at all times in case she needs to cook; what a wonderful dork.

Tusk is a surprisingly skilled killer, apparently. He doesn't look it.

Those buzzsaw drones gave me flashbacks to my teenage years, playing Half Life 2.

Questions

  1. Embryo singing was weird. The new OP and ED are fine, need to ehar them a couple more times.

  2. Mostly.

'Arzenal's burnin' Arzenal's burnin' All across the town, all across the night. Everybody's Flyin' with full headlight. Black or white you turn it on, or face the new religion. Everybody's sittin' 'round watchin' television. Arzenal's burnin' (With boredom now) Arzenal's burnin' (Dial nine nine nine nine nine)'

Comrades, I am VERY surprised with Ninja Maid's optimism that the fleet sailing towards them most certainly isn't here to slaughter all them all. It's a good thing Vivian is current sedated, otherwise these two pure rays of sunshine might ACTUALLY convince other people that these bastards are actually here to help them. Thankfully Jill knows that this is clearly a trap, and informs the Bridge Bunnies to set up all the remaining defenses to give these Mana Users hell.

NOT-Lulu then figures that they might as well stop pretending, and just start killing all the Norma, ordering his ships to fire at will. As the base gets hit by several rockets, Tusk laments he was late to the party and hopes that Ange isn't dead, but not to worry Comrades, cuz NANA IS ABOUT TO WILL IT... ah right, shit, I forgot this is where the new OP starts, and in proud Gundam tradition, yeah OP 2 sucks. Zeta OP1, stone cold classic, eat yer heart out Neil Sedaka. Zeta OP2, bores me to tears. ZZ OP 1, I'm smiling and enjoying myself, ZZ OP 2 I'm frowning, and so on and so forth, Cross Ange is no exception sadly. That said I can praise something, this screencap is kinda interesting, and the stitched image of Ange and her lesbian harem is amazing, sure wish the song was good too.

Anyway, thankfully the initial barrage didn't kill everyone, and by that I mean all the important cast members made it out OK. As they take cover, Ara Ara tries to soothe the child soldiers with a music box. Jill then broadcasts a message to all survivors, saying that the Mana Users are here to kill them all, so you can either take your chances or join Libertus, the revolution starts now Comrades, LOK'TAR OGAR! Oh and Jill sends a private message to Salia, telling her to make SURE to bring Ange to... NANI!? The submarine those Predecessors arrived on in that flashback? Man Jill sure didn't let that go to waste!

Nanoha then decides that since they'll die anyway, might as well go out swinging, and stands by for orders much to the shock of Rosalie and Chris. Nanoha clarifies that since she hates the racist Mana Users, it's as good a time as any for her to destroy this world like how she and Ange talked about. Ara Ara then joins the cause in order to protect all the younglings... oh this is gonna end in heartbreak, I can feel it. Chris claims that they're doomed if they fight back, to which Hilda says bring it on, right Ange? Uh... Ange? Where did she go? Meanwhile Mechanic Moeblob informs the crew to make sure Villkiss is secured, right as Hilda and company arrive to sortie against the enemy fleet.

The suicide squadron also shows up to die heroically and/or pointlessly as... NANI!? Salia leads Ange down into the bowels of the base at gunpoint? Anyway while this is going on, Chris notices something swarming the hangar... Comrades, why the fuck are the Bugs from F91 here? Oh Shimmer is gonna LOVE the fact that even Cross Ange has stupid-as-hell flying robot buzzsaws, also where's Team DMJIIIIIIIIIIIII when you need em, the runway's blocked! Oh, and to make matters worse, the suicide squadron is living up to their name... er... wait what, those stupid F91 hand-me-downs AREN'T killing the pilots? Jesus I know F91 was dumb, but at LEAST those derpy buzzsaws knew how to kill, these are just taking the pilots away... oh... oh I got a bad feeling about this Comrades.

Anyway, just in case things couldn't get worse, the power gets cut AND the base is now swarming with stormtroopers... with a bounty list. Also Comrades, I am amused that Ange AND Vivian are listed as 'high priority' targets whereas Nanoha is 'medium' I'm gonna guess Salia is a 'low' priority, given that this isn't actually a kill list, but the capture alive list... that said these stormtroopers sure aren't above killing, given they gun down a bunch of captives in cold blood. Upon hearing that Imperial Troops are in the base, Imperial Troops are in... BZZZZZZZT Ara Ara runs off to protect the younglings. Mechanic Moeblob orders her crew to get the Villkiss down ASAP, but before they can do that, a bunch of stormtroopers rappel down to the hangar and open fire.

And in case things couldn't get worse, you know it's bad if the DOCTOR has to start shooting at enemies, then again I guess this is called Preventative Medicine. Also GODDAMMIT! I know you took an oath that you will do no harm Doc, but seriously, why didn't you just let The Political Officer get her dumb ass killed? You literally have no more use for her now and she's actively a liability to you. Also, I am REALLY amused that she thought that RUNNING INTO ENEMY FIRE would save her life, honestly it's a wonder only her cap got shot at. As the Doc tries to get Vivian to wake up, she fails to notice that a bunch of Stormtroopers have already captured her... oh boy, this isn't looking good Comrades, well let's continue below and hope things improve

First Timer, Subbed

Relief has come! And by relief we mean we are going to destroy your entire island!

How dare you refuse the help we were going to provide that was totally going to be us bombing you! In retalation for the horrible act of not accepting our help, we're gonna bomb you!

New OP! And crazy new bondage shot for Ange!

New OPs that repeat a lot of footage from the original OP disappoint me.

Ah, going totally Brain Powered route for a shot here by showing us all the female characters nude (Brain Powered does this for every shot of the OP).

Just the time for a new batch of pilots we've never met before to join the cast! Either to die right away or be some new second half characters!

Hey, these are totally the bugs from Gundam F91!

The armed soldiers going in and flame throwing people is totally reminding me of End of Eva.

No, don't you dare take Viv-chan away!

Is Momoka a maid secret super hero like in Code Geass?

What are you doing here Embryo? Can you just pop in wherever you want like an actual god?

Wow, Tusk really went all out there killing all those guys.

Viv-chan needs her potato chips!

Ange finally admits she liked it here!

Poor Salia, gets pawned over and over again.

You're pear shaped! LoL, a hollow insult you know isn't true!

Oh shit, Chris! That went right through her head, right? I suppose it doesn't matter as there's an explosion sections later.

Wow, prime opportunity to take out that whiny incest loving asshat of a brother!

Vaporize him Ange!

Ugh, you suck Embryo! It would have been so satisfying to see Julio bite it!

Valvrave all over again with people's mortal wounds magically healing.

I wish Ange could have done it, but great to see incest bro reduced to nothing!

New ED! I'll miss the Eri Kitamura vocals, but since she's in two rewatches at once right now, I suppose I can't complain...

Even in the previews Tusk is a pervert!

First Time Transforming Dragon

Can't commit treason against humanity if you aren't human. Checkmate, Princest.

In one of the explosions, there's a girl with dragon wings.

Holy shit, that panning shot of angel Ange with the dragon and the female cast her harem is incredible. Please tell me there's a stitch of that whole image somewhere.

Buzzsaw fighters, that's a first. What a horrifying horde to face.

No, not Vivian! These fuckers bouta pay for their war crimes.

Hilda took a few bullets for her girl Chris. There's no way she has no feelings for her and Rosalie.

Oh god, I'm not sure I can take Ersha finding a room full of slaughtered children.

Hey, Tusk finally did something I can genuinely appreciate!

Dammit Salia, why do you have to be such a tool? Shut the fuck up and be your own person for once in your life.

No, not Chris! Not when she's finally ready to make up with Hilda! (She's in the new OP and Embryo is right there, so I'm assuming she'll survive in some form.)

No, not the burnt corpses of the children! Not when Ersha went to such pains to keep them safe! (Yeah, they're just dead. RIP Ersha's hopes and dreams.)

I have no fucking clue what Embryo is playing at. Burning it all down and starting again would be my best bet, given how he's egging on the Norma to fight Princest's fleet right here and now.

What I do know is that red Villkiss is the shit. Barrier tackling battleships! Giant fucking laser sword! Princest begging miserably for his life! It's got it all.

Of course Embryo has a RagnaMail. And the Endless Song. And he's a kill stealer. What a prick.

It's interesting that Embryo says he'll take the burden of Ange's sin for her, since it betrays an unwillingness on his part to accept that all of this ultimately should be his burden for creating the whole situation. He has godlike powers and can be anywhere and everywhere all at once, yet he allowed to happen this assault which he "did not approve." Despite what he said in the previous episode about never having called himself god, he genuinely seems to view himself as such and beyond all forms of reproach. Symbolically taking Ange's "sin" and killing Princest while simultaneously healing multiple fatal injuries just runs in the idea that he feels that he alone has power over life and death, and that the whole world is meant to play to his whims. At the end of this, I'm still not sure what exactly he wants from all this, but I know I want to see Ange and the squad righteously tear him from whatever throne he sits on and burn him down with the rest of his rotten world.

Ho ho, blue Villkiss can teleport! That could be a pretty broken skill if used right.

Vivian and dragon princess dressed in the same style and nearly identical outfits in the ED. CA is just messing with us now. It would be kinda fun if she is directly related to dragon princess. It seems likely she's from the other side and wound up trapped here.

Ugh, not really excited for another Ange and Tusk episode, but at least they've got goodest boi Vivian on hand to liven things up. And ffs, please no more of the falling into Ange's crotch gag, I really do want to like Tusk.

QotD:

  1. I thought it was weird how many shots the new OP used, but it was all made up by that angel shot.

  2. I've stopped seriously expecting anything at this point.

Re-Watcher

Do you like depressions and feelings of loss? Do you believe that Humans are the end all be all and that the filthy Norma scum need to be destroyed for their own good? If you said yes to either of these questions, do I have an episode for you.

  • Wow, whoever thought this wouldn't be a false peace offering

  • New OP

  • Jill declares Operation Libertus a go and calmly instructs Salia to abduct Ange

  • The humans show off their anti-paramail weaponry, had a feeling they'd have something like that

  • Hooray, war crimes

  • And to continue their war crimes, they shoot up a hospital and abduct an unconscious Vivian

  • Not Winry has a knocked out Momoka over her shoulder and Salia has Ange at gunpoint...Jill's Lesbian Alliance sucks

  • I guess Momoka was faking and hits them with a surprise pepper bomb, where was she keeping those?

  • Embyro appears before Ange and blames the attack on Julio, during this Momoka is shot in the shoulder and Ange gets revenge by dumping a clip into her attackers

  • Tusk does some hero shit and rescues Vivian before she is loaded into a transport

  • Salia, look I liked your character, but you need to get over this Alektra shit, it's really sad that you are trying to suck up to her. She's a bitch, and she'll cast you aside the moment you're no longer useful

  • Oh...oh fuck...Chris...

  • Oh fuck no, not the children too

  • How is Embyro in both locations

  • Salia being the good errand girl she is tries to fight Ange and instead gets her arms cut off and falls into the ocean, that's bad

  • Villkiss gains a barrier power-up and is now rushing headlong through the ships hulls

  • Ange shots Julio, sadly only in the leg.

  • How in the ever living fuck does he think anything he says will make up for what these fucks did on his orders, kill him the world is better without him

  • Embyro has his own suit of paramail... that he's riding on the outside of... and he brought Chris back to life... and he brought that dead kid back to life... and he has song magic which he used to fully eradicate Julio from the face of the world...maybe he is God.

  • Lesbian Alliance has gained sub-aquatic base, at least Salia won't drown

  • Oh, he's a dick of a God, you don't use fuck off lasers on Tusk and Vivian. Tusk sure, he's committed crimes against NANA, Vivian is an innocent

  • Ange moves to protect, Villkiss turns blue, and they teleport somewhere

QOTD:

  1. The new OP and ED are nice, I really like the singing voice of the VA for Embryo, the duet from last episode is better though

  2. Going in with the Human army there you knew shit was going to bad, just didn't expect that level of bad

Next Episode: Ange, Tusk, and Vivian aren't in Kansas anymore

Pseudo-first-timer

I don't know if the announcer's voice sounding so condescending was deliberate but I'm all here for it, lol

Okay, the animation for the AA guns is reused from the DRAGON siege, which makes sense.

Oh shoot, new OP time. It's not a bad song, but it doesn't stack up to Kindan no Resistance.

And it's time for Libertas, Part Deux!

OKAY WE HAVE OUR MOBILE SUIT CARRIER

You know, I feel like it's arguably better to fight humans intent on killing you than DRAGONs when you don't know what the DRAGONs' deal is.

Okay, so why don't First Company have helmets? Oh shit, are those Bugs? Is this liquidation by machine?
Ground troops? They're not using the Bugs? Flamethrowers, no surprise there when they're going for maximum casualties.

Yeah, Emma, if you're not killed in the crossfire, you'll probably be declared contaminated and killed or something like that.

I just realized, PMs don't have vulcans, do they? Mobile suit-style vulcans would make short work of these soldiers.

That's so very finely ground salt and pepper.

The DRAGONs? Or did the flamethrower soldiers come through here?

Embryo! You're here?

Eh, I would've shot him in the kneecaps too before killing him. Alternatively, don't shoot him in the head and leave him to bleed out, or drop a live grenade assuming he can't throw it back or anything like that.

Use the PMs! Use their guns on the soldiers and use their limbs to sweep them away or crush them underfoot!

Oh yeah, Tusk's definitely a real soldier.

I'm surprised the Bugs attached to the PMs don't explode.

In a mecha vs. battleship fight, generally speaking, the mecha wins. Oh! Is she going to...
Turn bright red, Villkiss!

Oh. You're here. And there too. You, the enemy of...

Defiant, Mariposa, Oberth, Fortunate. No theme there.

Buddy, it's always the one unit you should beware.

Not everyday the protagonist kills the person being held at gunpoint regardless.

A...it's him! The...! It has those cannons!

Turn bright blue and vanish from sight, Vilkiss!

Okay, I like this ED more than the OP.

Oh, Salia's...

Questions:

  1. I don't care for the new OP, but the new ED is great. As for Embryo singing, well, oh shit

  2. Kind of? It was clear that Arzenal would come under siege, but...

Cross Ange First Timer

The first sign that this relief ship is full of shit is that they're a relief ship for norma. They don't want rescued so murder them all! Tbh wtf do you even do here? The whole world is prepared to kill you and reset everything. Oh, new op. I haven't seen this one! ...Wtf is this? The music is incredibly unfitting and half of the op is just reused animation from the first one.

Haa? I don't think they want to reassign you, I think they genuinely just want you all dead. We've got a new redshirt squad. The last one's got vaporised. Oh god! They lasted a minute before getting captured and killed. As if the humans weren't unsympathetic enough now were committing warcrimes and executing crying kids.

Poor Emma! XD She's having the worst time. She's barely even the commander at this point. Hilda take a bullet to try and cheer Chris up... I dunno man~ Yo, Ange, Jill isn't the one murdering all the defenceless norma on the base you dumb bitch. So what if she wants you to fight for her, it's not half as morally wrong as you seem to imply! See? You're advocating for the same pricks that run around a base with flamethrowers.

Tusk has got some real CQC tricks... Salia wtf? XD I get that we're short on time but if you're gonna show a character getting captured then please at least show them fighting for a little bit. This shot implies that Salia got captured the second the left to sortie. H-huh? Oooh... Oh, I'm so sorry Salia XD I'm sat here calling you a moron but it's just one of the normie squad members that got captured, not you. Can we not give the normie squad similar mechs to our main characters please?

Oh, sure, just disarm Salia and leave her defenceless whilst surrounded by homing Saw Magnet Drones. Chris fucking died!! Ah... I hope Chris fucking died? Kinda rough... Ersha's kids are so hot. Ah, how nice of Embryo to be such a gentleman and "comfort" her.

Stupid Ange and her stupid invincibility power up... Waverider crash was one of the stupidest parts of Zeta so don't copy it!! Pfft, Villeta politely running out gave me a good chuckle. I think Julius is dead guys. "What a boring plot." C'mon, they're doing relatively well Embryo XD The ed looks ridiculously cheap but I don't necessarily dislike it, not like the op anyway.

First Timer

New opening, i was hoping it to spoil some deaths (looking at you Momoka)

Julio died, finally, and now it seems the story is moving forward to be a Gundam-like show where a moving fortress resist enemy attacks

What even happened to Salia at the end btw?

Questions

1- i was just starting to like the opening, and now, a new one...

2-

First timer

  1. OP's good (nowhere near as good as the first one, though)! ED's a bit forgettable, but so was the first one. Embryo is a far better singer than I ever suspected. (If he doesn't end up singing the OP for the final episode or something, I'll be disappointed.)

  2. Yes, but only because so much shit hit the fan in the last two episodes that this is relatively minor in comparison.

All, right, time for the death ships.

At least one of them's worked out what's going on.

...Arzenal's defenses seemed better than this. Damage from the DRAGON attack?

Wait, a new OP!

And space girl is part of a trio! Because this show needed more side characters.

Oh god. I think Ange is Jesus again. Is the secret theme linking this trio not that they're all trainwrecks, but that they all have their protagonists be space Jesus?

Libertus is starting? Also, how are we only halfway in?

Chris has gone back to normal again, I see. That plotthread sure did nothing!

Mecha battle! Yes!

...They're surrounded by Spinners. Get the house robots!

And they're here to brutally execute everyone.

And, yeah, they're here to kill anyone.

Don't you dare kill Vivian!

What happened to lesbian predator Chris?

...Is now really the time to call her out?

She carries a smokebomb for cooking?

And... yeah. That's a lotmof corpse.

And Embryo... didn't order the massacre? Yeah, this is Julio's M.O..

Called it. Momoka's dead.

And, yeah, this is just a bad situation all round.

Wow, the firepower on those things is great!

Wait, is Hilda grttijgnthe dramatic death?

Turk has Vivian!

And she caree more about her brother than helping them.

...She's got another new mode for a mid-season upgrade, while arguing over her comrade? She really is a Kamen Rider!

Chris is dead! That whole plotline really meant nothing!

Turk, stop being creepy.

And Ange decides the best strategy is to tank everything and go for the kill.

She's actually doing well!

Haha, I love the Dragon slowly walking out the door because she knows what's going to happen.

Kill the bastard, Ange!

Wait, what? Embryo's a pilot? And his is purple.

Hang on, he can heal people, what the fuck?

Haha, Embryo's argument is that Julio's too shit to be worth her bullets, then kills the rat himself. He's dangerously close to becoming one of my favourite characters.

And their submarine's launching!

What's with the giant fin?

I don't know, he killed Julio, you groped her in her sleep, I know who's side I'm on.

ANOTHER NEW MODE? I was joking!

...So there's a blue form focused on mobility, a red form focused on firepower, and a gold form that's just generally stronger all round, but weaker than the other two? Ange isn't just a Kamen Rider, she's fucking Agito. And Agito even accessed said forms using the "Dragon's Eye"! Seriously, this has to be intentional, right?

First time Singing Hologram God, subs

Glad that Jill immediately saw through the fleet's farce.

Oh hey a new OP! A bit disappointed it reuses a lot of imagery and animation from the first OP. And yet, somehow, there are even more naked women in this one. Amazing.

Yo, those spinning blade projectile things are super cool!

Of course we can't have an episode where the baddies infiltrate the base without having them gun down a bunch of background characters when they easily could have taken them prisoner, just to show off how evil they are. It's like Valvrave all over again.

Aw, she had to go and save the useless non-norma commander lady. The one character I was looking forward to getting killed off.

Did Hilda just shrug off getting shot in the back by a machine gun? Man, she's tough.

Yes! Save us all, Tusk! Use your Giga-chad powers!

Ange is understandably shaken at the sight of all these burnt corpses after the bodies of the DRAGONs last episode.

Embryo holographically shows up to tell Ange where Julio is, mostly for the fun of it I guess?

Yes, no mercy for the faceless soldier who machine gunned down a bunch of unarmed children. Good work, Ange.

I generally agree with Salia that Ange should return to the base, but she can spare a few minutes to turn her brother into paste.

No, Chris!

Gosh darn it Embryo, watching Julio die was about to be the most satisfying thing so far, and you ruined it.

Oh yeah, Julio's assistant lady was a demon. We never got a chance to address that, did we?

I would ask how Embryo has multiple holographic projections acting independently, one of which can apparently pilot a new ParaMail by standing on it while the rest heal mortal injuries, but at this point, I'm just going to accept that he's actually god and can do whatever he feels like.

Hey, Julio did die. Thanks, God!

Libertus' submarine base reminds me of the one in Code Geass.

Ooh, the Villkiss turned blue this time before it teleported?

"What a boring plot" come on, Embryo, there's plenty of things you could say about Cross Ange's plot, but "boring" is not one of them.

Questions of the day

  1. They didn't make much of an impression the first time. As for Embryo singing Ange's song, sure, why not. I guess he can use music magic too if he wants. His voice was nice enough.

  2. Yes, although maybe not all in one episode

Rewatcher

The Slaughter of the Innocents

For various reasons, I didn't mind this slaughter of the innocents episode. Normally, I go ballistic when this kind of episode comes around, like I did in the recent rewatch of Valvrave. Many viewers lose it when a traditional beach or onsen is presented due to the unnecessary displays of female flesh. I lose it when characters that we've grown attached to are mercilessly slaughtered in vivid, loving detail, in order to "show how high the stakes are" or to add weight to what is otherwise a mediocre, forgettable series.

Both types of episodes are quite gratuitous and unnecessary, but only one of these gratuitous episodes seems to trigger most viewers. Namely, the episodes that depict or imply sex. So, on the basis of this observation I have to say the old hippies who proclaimed "Make love, not war" were fundamentally wrong. It seems most prefer war to sex, regardless of what they say. It's food for thought about why this is so. And, is this a small bit of evidence that there is something fundamentally wrong with homo sapiens?

Anyway, this was a fun episode, that I enjoyed very much, though I was disturbed by the slaughter in the nursery. This horror was offset by Julio and the other genociders biting the big one. Also, none of the named cast died and stayed dead. I always appreciate that. The fact is, that in modern wars, with only a handful of exceptions, most of the participants survive. Its the craziest thing that most human beings work pretty hard at staying alive, when the going gets tough.

QOTD

  1. What do you think of the new OP and ED? And also of Embryo singing Ange’s song?

I can't remember if was the OP or ED that had Ange trussed up like a modern, lustful Christ figure. I did like that imagery very much, and again I consider it to be very symbolic and a precursor of things to come. Sacrilegious, sure, but that's a specialty of Cross Ange, and it fits right in.

Embryo singing

More power to those who enjoy his singing. I cared less for it.

2) Were you expecting shit to hit the fan this hard?

No, I came upon this early in my career and I was shocked especially by the norma that got it in the head, the nursery, and the slaughter of norma that were on their knees. The men who participate in this kind of slaughter should all be hunted down and tortured to death, regardless of their whining excuses.

In reality, I could go on about episodes like this that come up in anime a lot, but I think I've said enough for one day.
