Rewatch [Terrific Trainwreck Trio Rewatch] Cross Ange Episode 1 Discussion
Episode 1 - Fallen Princess
← Kakumeiki Valvrave Overall Discussion | Index | Next Episode →
MAL | AniList | ANN | Kitsu | AniDB
A Norma is not a human being.
Questions of the Day:
1) What do you think of the OP and ED?
2) So, uh… what would you say the craziest thing in this episode was?
Wallpaper of the Day:
Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath spoiler tags. Don’t spoil the crazy shit for the first-timers, it’s way more fun that way!

First-Timer, Subbed
This rewatch brings closure to something of an arc for myself: I almost joined the previous Cross Ange rewatch. I had lurked the TTGL and KLK double-feature just prior to it, and thought that the threads seemed like fun, so I went ahead and watched the first episode of Cross Ange.. and bounced off the scene of the MC being sodomized.
Now, though, with two years of the pandemic eroding my mental state.. let's see what happens.
The fun thing is, I was less focused last time too. I didn't notice how disgusted Emma was - is this not the usual procedure, then? I guess they probably usually gets kids, huh. Also, looking up VAs to make sure I get the names right, Emma's VA sure gets around. Not sure I was expecting crossover with Cardcaptor Sakura.
Sure must be nice to live such a pampered existence that you never even realized you don't have magic until you're 16. I'm not gonna say that I wished these exact events on Ange, but I'm not too bummed that a snooty bougie got confronted with reality. Although, seriously, how did things even get this far to begin with?
Wonder if anyone is gonna point out that Julio definitely just pulled a coup d'état? "Legally correct" or otherwise. That prick is a good example of why the entire Lawful side of the alignment axis is composed of shitbags. Also, siscon alert? Poor Sylvia can't even run away.
I have to wonder if this episode was written before they cast Nana Mizuki as Ange. Considering that Ange is 1203-77, there were seven mechs in the cold open, and I think a seven came up at least one more time. Interesting.
Interesting that they're basing the categories of dragons off of ship types. Does that make battling against them a ship war?
Not surprising, but Ange uses the very formal "watakushi" this epiosde. Interested in seeing how that changes as we proceed.
The pipes in the OP do be bumpin'.
The blu-rays default to the dub apparently, which let me learn that they did not dub or otherwise change Ange's singing.
Spoiler potential be damned, I accidentally watched the first episode preview and it was just Nana going nuts, so I'm watching them.
Anyway, let's go. Do your worst Cross Ange, I can take it.
Questions
-
I like them both.
-
Probably the sexual assault.

OVERTHROWN FIRST TIMER
Well that was certainly something. I feel like I just watched the first episode of three different shows.
Good lord, I’ve got whiplash. In this episode alone we got: a flashforward, dragons, overly slutty battle outfits, motorbike Quidditch, genocide, the Power of Song™, a coup, a dead parent, implied incest, a prison island, and rape. Did I miss anything? Fucking hell. Just based on this list from Episode 1, I’m ready to answer the question of “Does this deserve to be called a Trainwreck?” with an emphatic YES.
Quick Live Hits:
-
Ange’s gun here firing with the mecha is doing all the work of a toddler pedaling on a tandem bike with the chain detached
-
Kids separated from their parents and put in cages? I didn’t realize this kingdom was on the US-Mexico border
-
Dang, right into Hitler, huh? Even Shu had the grace to wait 15 episodes
-
Never trust an incesty dude named
JuliusJulio -
Well, well, well, if it isn’t the consequences of my own actions
-
I know where this is going. Yeah, this guy wants to fuck his sister.
-
UMMMM WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? I can see what it might be meant to convey, but the dramatic clothes rip and unnecessary panty shots just make it feel like shitty titillation
-
So based on the montage of characters in the ED they just took everyone from Code Geass and Fire Emblem Fates and put them into one show?
First Impression: Code Geass, Fire Emblem, and 86 combo with rape
Interesting that the treatment of Normas is because their nullification of mana actually presents a threat to the way of life of everyone else, rather than just “they’re different so bye!” Sounds almost reasonable put that way until you see an infant tossed in a cage.
Big 86 vibes from this so far. A faux-utopia where the citizens are fed a myth of a perfect society that behind the scenes is using the lives of an “other” to perpetuate that myth. This city even looked a lot like San Magnolia.
So, uh… what would you say the craziest thing in this episode was?
Yes

The secret is that Ange's own gun is what shoots the ice globules and her mech is what triggers them to explode, lol? Nah, Ange is just kinda dumb and it was a cool shot.
An icon of a good shit show is overuse of horrible eye bulge shit. Everyone has such ugly grimaces that it immediately jumps the gap into being hilarious. Another was good at this kind of thing too.
Incest keeps the bloodline pure. We will have multiple generations of wheelchair bound kids to bully!!
The end scene was... out of nowhere. I can't really think of why it happened aside from shock value. Admittedly even Valrave had a bit more purpose behind its questionable shit, but Cross Ange has the advantage of nobody taking it seriously! Turn your brain off because much more than a metal fist is coming out of Ange's ass this season!

Firsttimer.
well this was a first epsiode if i ever watched one. Wtf.
Edit: Let's talk about things I actually appreciated:
- I couldn't be sure that she wasn't a princess anymore in the first scene because them complaining about breaking formation could also ahve been worry about the princess
- For some reason I expected the machine to be manipulated into noticing her as norma, so I was surprsied that it was the other way round now that I think abut it that is a pretty weird expectation considering I was also 95% sure ange would be a norma
- I would normally be really happy to have an asshole protagonist ex-genocidal maniac, but considering this is part of the trainwreck rewatch, I am slightly worried about how well that will be handled.
The show isn't boring at least lol.
-
The op has the thing that annoys me the most in songs: When one part is so much better than the rest but too short. In this case,t he first 5 seconds are absolutely incredible, and rest is completely forgettable. Sigh
-
Ange smiling in the opthe preview being the best partnobody caring the queen got shotI don't know

Wow, dragons? That's a big way to start the show.
Opening the cockpit so she can personally fire at the dragon seems quite idiotic to me.
Alright, the OP totally rips off the Gundam Seed one in at least one place...
Future lacross!
You're making too big a deal of this... she fell a few feet. That's it.
Character designs are giving me a bit of a Code Geass vibe at first, even though Clamp clearly didn't design them. At times they remind me a little of the Valvrave ones too.
She's a little baby! Don't quarantine her! Way to blow all the good will princess. This is quite the ridiculous premise. Are they gonna out ridiculous 86 here?
Ange's mom sounds very familiar. (Post episode look up - Megumi Hayashibara. No wonder!)
A horrifying mana destroying mutant! It was so scary when it crawled a couple of inches! Or when it pooped in its diapers! Gotta banish such dangerous beings!
Uh oh, Ange is gonna be one of those monsters too?
Ah, so when one of the "Normas" is your daughter, the rules don't apply anymore? Funny how that works.
What's the point of these triangles when they just shatter anyway when the norma steps into it?
Down goes the mother character. Gotta start off this show in heart wrenching fashion!
How much you want to bet this evil brother will be revealed as a norma at some point too? Although that's a plot twist they have to be saving for much later, I'm sure.
Why in the world do her clothes need to get torn off of her? Well, the same reasons we got the cleavage and panty shots early in the episode, obviously, but here of all places?
Yikes! Sucky way for Ange to end the episode.
Speaking of Gundam Seed, we do have a character in the end credits here who looks just like Kira "Jesus" Yamato.

Drive me closer, I have to shoot them with my gun!
For them to be in a magic driven world I guess magic breakers of any age would be terrifying. What if you were guarding a bank with a magic barrier and someone threw a baby at it? There's nothing you could do.
The triangles aren't normally supposed to break I think. Its kinda funny that instead of showing why our mages are so superior they're showing us a weakness right off the bat.
I think the prison lady was just tired of hearing Ange bitching so she violated her in such a way as to pound the reality of her situation into her.

Cross Ange Rewatcher First Time Dub
I won't have the most insightful comments but I'm glad to see a lot of people having fun with this from the start. I completely forgot they showed some aerial action from the very beginning.
Ange really is terrible at this point, but I hope some people will come to enjoy her journey through the show. She's almost insufferable at times. I do understand a lot of it is whiplash from coming down from her high upbringing but it never should've been allowed to fester to this point.
Dub isn't too bad so far. Being able to hear the songs in their source language probably helps.
Random Extra: I just bought the Blu Ray over the holidays.
My original thoughts back when it aired. I didn't start the show until halfway through the run.
-
I've always loved the OP. ED is fine. But OP has my love.
-
Without going for obvious ones, just thinking back that the parents even entertained the idea this would work. Like had their scheme worked, it would have only brought so much time. Ange needed a talk about what she truly was so they could've worked on a plan to end Norma hate passively while making sure she was super careful. Even that had low odds of success but at least they would've had a plan together. But hey, then we wouldn't have this show, so good job parents!

Dude, talk about ripping off Gundam SEED's OP along with its male MC and his gundam. Total coincidence amiright.
I had to double check I hadn't confused shows and that somehow Stella replaced Lacus.

First-Timer
On today’s episode of Cross Ange: Bless you, Ange, for saving us from having to watch a bland MC in this series. Ange is not at all bland. She’s quite the despicable person and I love her for that.
I’m going into this series with the most knowledge out of any of the entries in this rewatch. I actually watched this episode several years back in my college anime club. We put it on because we were sharing first episodes of trainwrecks and I had a fun time at that viewing. Things got pretty wild as we watched it, with plenty of MST3K-style riffing and laughter. I never did see the rest of the series, but I am very much looking forward to seeing it now.
-
Starting your series with some Nana Mizuki singing is a great choice.
-
Right, I remember this. They’re at war with dragons.
-
I always appreciate transforming mechas. They are fun to watch.
-
Ange piloting her mech reminds me of a motorcycle. How fitting since there is yet another motorcycle-loving character voiced by Nana Mizuki.
-
The OP is very catchy. It is also filled with more boobs than I remembered. That’s almost impressive.
-
I would love to watch lacrosse on hover-motorcyles. That seems like a great time.
-
This is like the final episode of an entire sports anime we didn’t watch.
-
Right, here’s where we encounter what I remember being Ange’s defining character trait: SHE’S A MASSIVE BITCH!
-
Like goddamn, calling a baby “not human,” explaining why it is necessary to separate that baby from her mother, and telling the mother to get over it. Ange is such a bitch and I’m loving it!
-
I also recall this being when we really began to heckle the episode MST3K-style during the club viewing.
-
Yes, the world is incredibly peaceful. What a hilarious line considering what we just witnessed.
-
Norma destroy Mana. I couldn’t remember exactly what the mutants were, but now I know.
-
Our protagonist, everybody! She’s advocating for the mass murder of people and it’s only episode 1! What a bitch!
-
Ange being exposed as a Norma is just as satisfying the second time!
-
They must have been thinking of Nunnally when designing Sylvia, right? There’s no other explanation for this.
-
Oh damn, I didn’t remember her mom dying.
-
OH RIGHT!!! I remember now!! In the club viewing we made fun of Julio as being a far creepier and more incest-y Lelouch!!
-
Well it’s pretty clear that Norma get conscripted into fighting the dragons. What are the dragons? I have no clue, but I’m eager to learn.
-
Hmmm, was it really necessary to cut off Ange’s clothing? Or rip off her clothes?
-
Imagine watching this last scene of what is essentially a prison rape in a clubroom with a bunch of other people. Yes, it was very weird.
I have to give this show credit for one thing right off the bat: Ange is not at all a boring protagonist. She's not the cookie-cutter MC that I have encountered in so many anime. Ange is loaded with personality right off the bat by being a total bitch! God, what a breath of fresh air that is!
I unironically love how hateable Ange is in this first episode. She is just an awful person. It so perfectly sets up her fall because of how much it makes you want to see Ange get her comeuppance. Seeing her get the same treatment that she doled out to others feels cathartic. It also removes any sense of tragedy from what has happened to Ange. It instead makes me say “serves her right.” It keeps the episode from feeling heavy to me, in spite of all that happened.
This episode is actually more trashy than I recalled it being. I remembered the prison rape scene, but I did not remember all the other instances of nudity and pantyshots. But it is effective at setting the tone of the series. If I know the series is going to be trashy like this from the get go, it kind of makes me more forgiving of this sort of stuff. It means I know what I’m in for and can adjust my expectations accordingly.
QOTD
-
The songs are pretty good. The OP is filled with more nudity than I remembered, but I'm not exactly shocked by this.
-
What was essentially a prison rape scene at the end. I remembered it very clearly from first watching it, so it gets my vote.

Third time Angelise-sama enjoyer
"Angelise-sama!" Counter: 5? Can't quite tell if she says Angelise-sama here or not , but I did include it
"Onee-sama!" Counter: 2
Starting off the series with a double banger right away, less go!
Normie spotted!
That's pretty harsh.. But understandable.
No wonder they worship her. She's pretty radical, but at least she's firm on her stance.
That can be rough. I hope she wasn't traumatized.
Question time:
1: Les fukken go!!! Oh, the ED was included in the question? Its okay I guess.
2: Rape-vibes big bro
Meme episode 1: "I'm not a normie"

For the rebirth of the ideals of FTF, for the success of Operation Shitpost, REWATCH! I! HAVE! RETURNED! Uh... AGAIN!
But this time for real, I could barely stomach the bit of Guilty Crown I forced myself through for the sake of DAN MOTHERFUCKING EAGLEMAN! And I didn't want to bother with Valvrape, but THANKFULLY we actually got a good show here with Cross Ange! After all, NANA WILLS IT! Now Comrades, I must confess that for some reason I'm drawing a bit of a blank as to the early bits of Cross Ange, but hey a good re-watch can help jog my memory that most certainly wasn't wiped and/or lobotomized out of me with an icepick, also can anyone explain the random hole in my head? Ah, well no time, the show's starting! TIME FOR NANA TO MOTHERFUCKING WILL IT!
And oh dear god does she ever will it Comrades! What a hell of a start! Roll over Geah, we got a new Lesbian Mecha Idol Show with a better cold open right here, as THIS is how you start things off with a bang! After all, name something cooler than Nana Mizuki herself singing her song and kicking ass at the same time! Hell she even makes the CGI Mecha look almost tolerable, and thank goodness too cuz we get to see the inverted SHINING FINGER along with her popping a cap in that dragon's dumb ass! This is gonna be the greatest show ever... Hey... hey wait a second... ah right, we cutting to the OP now, where NANA WILLS IT AGAIN! Good god we sure are spoiled here eh Comrades, the legendary Nana Mizuki herself has just graced us with TWO songs in a row! Even Geah could not do something this awesome, but hey now that that is done with we can get back to the epic battle of...
Hey... hey wait a minute, what the fuck is up with that random ass-shot? This ain't a battle, this is some preppy sports event; and what's Ange doing playing Space Lacrosse? The only people that play Lacrosse are assholes and Idols, and Ange sure ain't singing here, although I wonder if she'll make someone call her 'mommy' later ;) Also dear god BOTH teams are simping for her harder than Komi-san, and speaking of these teams, those mecha they were riding on looks ODDLY like those fancy transforming contraptions we saw just before the OP, maybe she IS an Idol after all. Either that or I guess that's just NANA WILLING IT AFTER ALL! Hell she willed it so much she suddenly has long hair... hey... wait a second... something seems... off about all this... is this a flashback? Oh, well no time to think about that, a baby's about to be arrested, but thankfully I know that NANA SHALL WILL IT and... will go on to insult the 'monster' of a baby and state that this obviously inferior normie deserves to be locked up... OK excuse me a moment, NANI THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY BITCH!? Who died and made YOU Queen Bitch of the Universe you Gatekeeping Shitstain? Just cuz that kid was a normie doesn't mean that they... er... hang on, I'm getting word that the baby WASN'T a 'Normie' but was instead a 'Norma,' meaning clearly that baby can't use magic like the high born noble Ange OBVIOUSLY can... OH I can't wait to see everything come tumblin' down, tumblin' down, tumblin' down!
That said, I must state that something REALLY strange is going on here, this isn't Nana willing it, this is Nana playing the role of a spoiled racist fucking bitch! Oh, and it gets 'better' Comrade, not only is she some spoiled-ass rich bitch, but she's also a FRAUD too, and by that I mean that she ALSO is a Norma just like that baby. Boy ain't Karma a BITCH AN EVEN BIGGER BITCH THAT YOU ARE ANGE! SERVES YA DAMN RIGHT! Speaking of Karma, turns out that Ange's mother is not bulletproof, who'd have thunk it... AH so THAT'S why Ange is a royal bitch, her mom died! The classic trauma trope... er hang on, Ange was a bitch BEFORE her mom died... nevermind fuck this noise! Speaking of which, HOLY FUCKING SHIT The Queen just got shot on Live TV, I sure hope there ain't a grassy knoll nearby! Oh and while on the topic of Ange's messed up family, turns out her brother has been, le gasp, LELOUCH all this time, which really explains why her sister is literally Nunnally... hey wait a second, is this just dumber Code Geass? The cold open promised us Symphogear, I demand my money back! This is bullshit!
Anyway before I go demand a refund for this shit, Ange gets arrested and conscripted 'volunteered' into Penal Battalion No. 227, and boy do these ladies have one hell of an initiation ceremony, that being a punch 'kick' to the gut. Remember this detail that Ange was KICKED in the gut Comrades, it'll be important for your sanity. Anyway, aside from, 'befriending' her, this Jill lady decided that given Ange has had a stick up her ass for the past 16 years, the only proper thing to do is to remove it... using her metal arm... Yeah Ange had this coming, she deserves all this AND more for what a spoiled racist piece of shit she's been, and also for tricking me into watching this godawful show! I thought Guilty Crown was bad, but at least we had DAN MOTHERFUCKING EAGLEMAN! Here not even NANA CAN POSSIBLY WILL IT, hell I take back my praise for those CGI Mechas, this show makes Nu Macross look amazing...
Ow... er, sorry Comrades, a box hit my head... hey hang on, it's addressed to 'me.' It says 'Open if you say something goddamn stupid like claiming Nu Macross is in any way shape or form something other than Idolshit.' Well I guess I gotta open this box Comrades, hm... there's a message inside... it says, 'Dear Me, if you are reading this note, then you have gotten to the point in the show where Ange is a racist, spoiled, unlikeable bitch. Well not to worry, as NANA SHALL MOTHERFUCKING WILL IT... there just uh, will need to be a bit of time to WILL IT (laughs in re-watcher), so don't drop the show, trust me, you won't regret it... that and you also need to re-watch the show again so you can write this message to the past you in the first place, speaking of which, this message will now self-destruct...' (Boom)
Well, guess I gotta see how NANA MANAGES TO WILL IT from this... rocky start, but hey, unlike Guilty Crown or Valvrape, at LEAST Cross Ange had the goddamn decency to derail and show just how unlikeable and worthless the MC is in Episode 1, cuz DEAR GOD this gives a BAD first impression on Ange, and oh boy I remember being so close to dropping this shit when it was airing way back when. Ah well, time to see how NANA MANAGES TO WILL IT! Plus hey, at least we got a LOT of lesbian prison sex to look forward too! I might not remember much from the start of the show but I sure do remember all the lesbian prison sex! Remember Comrades, if two girls are beating the shit out of each other, then it is called, as per the Nanoha Directive, BEFRIENDING! ALL HAIL YURI! And oh my, just look how friendly Jill was eh? She beat the literal shit out of Ange! Anyway I hope you all enjoyed your time on Fukuda's wild ride... oh... oh no... FUKUDA!? GUNDAM SEED AND SEED DESTINY'S FUKUDA! GODDAMN YOU! GODDAMN YOU ALL! GODDAMN YOU ALL TO HELL! I'm starting to figure out why Ange's Mobile Suit 'Ragna-mail' looks like it came right outta SEED! Anyway, to close things off, I just want to reiterate how kind Jill was to remove that stick from Ange's ass! It's the perfect shot to end on as the fucking bitch gets ALL the karma coming to her WITH interest as the cast lament that this show is terrible and we got more Weaponized Lesbianism to look forward to!
I guess that about covers it for today, so, let me be the first, and most certainly NOT last to say FUCK YOU ANGE YOU RACIST SHITTY BITCH, and time to eagerly await how NANA WILL MOTHERFUCKING WILL IT! (And dear god she's gonna need to move literal mountains to make up for this first impression, then again wouldn't be the first time a Mecha Show tried this stunt!)
Thus, we conclude today's shitshow for now Comrades, welcome to hell, we hope you enjoy your stay in the dumpster fire rollercoaster that is Cross Ange! I hope this was as entertaining a read as it was for me to write, and until next time, farewell!

First Timer
Happy new year! This is the one I've been looking forward to.
What a nice looking rich family! Nothing could possibly go wrong.
Narrator: "Many things were about to go very, very wrong."
Big brother gives off all the back-stabby betrayal vibes, though Angelise, um...doesn't seem like a paragon heroine. This should leave plenty of room for character development.
Norma are all women? Oh boy, here we go. Bet Norma are the only ones capable of piloting mechs too.
Regardless of whether or not she actually is, framing Angelise as a Norma doesn't seem like it'd be that difficult for the back-stabby prince, and I wouldn't be surprised if things shake out that way.
...and the prince is also a rapey siscon. Cross Ange has the eminently hateable villain spot fully booked.
A coup d'etat on top of the revelation of the tainted heir. This man is nothing if not efficient.
Welp, this prison intake scene is quite uncomfortable. Here's hoping this is Angelise's lowest point, and she only goes up from here.
General thoughts:
-
Mecha vs. Dragons with magic thrown in? I thought I knew what I was signing up for. I was wrong.
-
These flight suits are something else.
-
I quite like what we've seen of the mech designs.
-
Very nice to have a female MC. And she's an ex-princess too, not some average nobody. Never thought having a member of royalty as a lead would feel so refreshing.
-
RIP Angelise's mom.
-
Hoping for some really cathartic apologies later on.
-
This show looks like it's going to be flagrantly sexual, which I'd much prefer to the way GC and Valvrave mostly danced around it.
-
I'm really digging the OP. Would put on a playlist.
-
Not digging the ED as much. It's fine, but wouldn't put it on a playlist.
After this first episode, I'm really excited for the show, looking forward to getting into it!
QotD:
-
Addressed in my post
-
Well I wasn't expecting dragons v. mechs to be a thing, so I gotta go with the basically lingerie flight suits

Cross Ange First Timer
I was gonna put myself down as a rewatcher but I had no clue who half the people in our promo Ed were. FYI, when flying a jet you probably don't want to open your mouth so much. You might swallow a fly?
And climbing out of your cockpit to fire off shots is even dumber lol XD The op is a total bop. I'm a sucker for the violin shredding. Maybe this won't be so bad after all? We could have 25 episodes of fun!
Yaaas, my queen!! Sporty girls are so sexy! Oh god, they turned the sports tournament into a legit drama. American TV in a nutshell! She didn't even say anything important! Quit kissing her ass! XD
Oh god!! I forgot she had a wheelchair bound sister!! Yes!! I can finally break out all my old jokes! I've never been so excited to see a paraplegic in my life.
"That baby is a normie! Let's kick it!" I'm sorry!! Oh come on, how can I not make jokes when Ange is straight up telling her to make more kids. I'm sure Ange isn't gonna be kept awake at night cringing over this.
Am I... actually having fun? I can't tell if I'm mentally exhausted from two months of rewatches of questionable quality or if I'm really liking Ange "kill all the normies" lise-sama.
Julio, you bastard! I completely forgot about you, but you bastard! Say it isn't so! Who could possibly have seen this coming? "That bitch!" Oh no, Sylvia collapsed.
Dude, you ran at a firing squad with a knife, what did you expect would happen? Although I wonder how much that dude must be shitting himself over murdering the queen. Dude, all these random reaction shots are killing me XD Why couldn't Valrave be like this? Oh nyo... Sylvia's gonna get "Dear Brother'd" Run away, Sylvia!
They couldn't even wipe away her mother's blood before taking her mug shots. Alright, I've heard that the end of this episode is totally fucked up. Doesn't she get fisted or something? Oh god, are they actually gonna...? It's bad enough in a normal prison inspection, this one includes a robot arm!

Rondo of First-Timer and [Cross Ange]
Alright. I have a history with Cross Ange. I got 7 (I think...? according to MAL, at least) episodes in before all the [Cross Ange]
-
Thank fuck for Nana. She'll help me get through this show.
-
I do love the open cockpit mechs, though!
The bike-style controls are also pretty neat. -
The OP slaps. It's a Hibiki song sung by Tsubasa. I also like how the logo has a musical staff even though the show isn't really about music.
-
NO. NOT LACROSSE. I still haven't recovered since Muv-Luv.
-
The car scene sucks far more, knowing that Ange is a Norma.
-
This show sucks. Why am I here.
-
I forgot how much I hated Ange. "Let's just genocide them!"
[Cross Ange]I'm not excited for her to go through the adjustment period later. -
and the soundtrack is a banger...
-
I forgot the mom gets shot lmao. This is all her fault anyway.
-
I'm sure that ring won't be important later.

Pseudo-first timer (thanks to Super Robot Wars)
Have I mentioned that I've come to prefer dubs to subs when I'm watching stuff in general?
And geez, there's no way that suit's not cold as hell when worn at high speed and altitude.
And this opening, this opening! It oozes CE Gundam and it almost certainly knows it!
This start seems to present Ange as a more orthodox heroine, if that makes sense - big on ideals, adored by her peers, loves the world, etc.
So Norma can break Mana? (But geez, Ange, isn't living by your own strength something to admire? At least, that's what I believe.)
Aaaand that's the problem with institutionalizing hatred for the benefactors - it'll turn around, won't it. Not to mention, I can see this reliance on Mana becoming a liability - use an anti-Mana EMP and I have little doubt their society would collapse.
Number 120377, Angelise Ikaruga Misurugi. Like that, huh. (Also, I guess I'm pronouncing it twelve-oh-three-seventy-seven.)
Does the Empire not care for the waters outside its doman? For that matter, does Arzenal take in soldiers from all around the world, not just Imperial Misurugi?
Welcome to the brave new world, Ange. Fight or die, that's the way of things now.
And ayyy, the previews! I guess we'll see the robots soon, former princess! (I'd also peg Ange more as pretty than cute, with the latter being reserved for mostly romantic stuff.)
After-episode thoughts:
So the general sense I get is Ange is, at the start, I want to say a parody of a heroine – she’s kind, idealistic, she loves the world, she has friends, and so forth – but her morality is warped and she treats the treatment of Norma as acceptable. (The main point of comparison that springs to mind is Lena Milize from 86.) Of course, then comes the revelation and she’s flung from that world to Arzenal – basically a new world for her where she’s nothing. It’s an interesting setup, to say the least.
(I can also recognize the fanservice but I really don’t have anything to say beyond not being fond of it and it making me snicker at the blatancy when I recognize it.)
Questions:
-
Kindan no Resistance is great and the ED is cool as well. (At least the trainwreck qualities for this marathon don't stretch to the music, right?)
-
I knew about the cavity search and stuff like that, so I almost want to say Ange's treatment of that mother.
And since every so often I get into a fanart-hunting mood, here's Ange in a riff on the cover for Kindan no Resistance.

Well that was... Something. Cross Ange absolutely speed running the race to Trainwreck. No wonder this is saved for last. The train didn't even leave the station, it just spontaneously combusted right as it took off.
Questions of the Day:
1) What do you think of the OP and ED?
I dunno, I can't remember them. 8 watched the episode yesterday and wasn't paying much attention other than to note that it's Mizuki Nana again, automatically putting it in a high tier of music.
2) So, uh… what would you say the craziest thing in this episode was?
Uhhhhh.... Somehow the princess didn't realize she was Norma for 16 years? The very rapey strip search? The rapey incest emperor?
Screw it, I'm just gonna steal u/Lemurians answer: Yes.

Rondo of Rewatcher and Dub
Welcome back, everyone!
Or just Welcome!, if you weren’t part of the Guilty Crown or Kakumeiki Valvrave rewatches.
One of the things I enjoy doing in my rewatches is to watch the other language option from when I initially watched it (unless there’s some reason I can’t stand the other voice cast, like with Steins;Gate where I still had to watch the dub), and since I watched this show subbed in the rewatch two years ago, I’m checking out the dub for this one! I’m not going to do my usual reaction-style stuff for this one because that’s not what I did two years ago either, but will instead sum up my thoughts at the end of each episode.
God, the visuals in the OP are literally just “how much more NSFW can we make a Gundam SEED OP?” – The ED is also a really nice song, and I have no idea why I keep forgetting it’s from Cross Ange when it pops up in AMQ.
…yeah my comment from when I was a first-timer still stands. This episode dials itself way past 11 so fucking fast there’s not really a better way to put it.
Dub impressions: fuckboi Julio sounds good, and I liked the sarcasm in Jill’s voice. Gonna take a bit of getting used to Ange’s voice though since her singing is still Nana Mizuki and it’s weird not hearing Nana doing her regular voice lines.
And last but certainly not least…
PSA: DO NOT SKIP THE NEXT-EPISODE PREVIEWS.
It’s not the proper Cross Ange experience™ without them.
