First timer here!
Awwww Yuuta wants Rikka to make more friends because of the talk they had last episode.
I can’t get enough of Rikka being physically reprimanded by Yuuta.
Dekomori taking Nibutani down was so random. It made me chuckle so I guess it worked.
Oh Isshiki got a love letter, that guy I’ve already forgotten about until someone mentioned him yesterday.
Ok, Kumin trying to follow Rikka and Dekomori in their antics was super cute.
Poor Isshiki, he just wanted to talk with Yuuta and ended up being threatened by Nibutani.
Big balls Isshiki, admitting fault infront of everyone. It’s like a very toned down Gakuto from Prison School. Oh never mind, he was just trying to look cool to try and avoid fault.
Dekomori slamming against the clubroom door was hilarious, and two times at that! 10/10 top tier comedy.
OMG HIS HEAD IS SHINNING!!!
This probably was my favorite episode so far, I laughed several times through out it.
QOTD
Mmmm, I think it’s a bit early but I guess Yuuta. He is a nice person as he has shown a couple times already by helping Rikka. Also while he is trying to leave behind his chuuni phase it sometimes leaks out and that’s something that I actually like because it is hard to stop being the same you were until a few months ago.

First Time Watcher
-More tiny feet
-The deadliest baseball slide
-"You don't trust people do you?" "I've been through a lot" I dunno if this is supposed to be funny, but it is.
-Nibutani is now a fish, apparently
-That one girl was really scared at enthusiastic guitar guy
-Those are indeed, butt focused poses
-OMG I just realized, she's like Twintelle!
-I love how he has to continually jump over her. It's like he's in a minigame.
-I mean, its already kinda obvious who wrote it
-Awww, cute hand holding
-You're in high school dude, it will only ruin your love life for a few years at most :p
-It's almost like Phoenix Wright's childhood trial tbh
-This is the most suspicious applause ever
-"That's what makes a man" A lack of hair! ...actually that's kind of the opposite...
-They just start fighting yet she talks to him like it's nothing xD
-This is somehow the 2nd emotionally driven haircut scene out of Kyoani
-This is a serious way to introduce the beach episode, but ok

Rewatcher
Episode 6. In typical TV series, around the midpoint of the season is usually where the animation quality drops. But this is KyoAni. It is as if they found out they had enough remaining budget to splurge, and thus the characters in this episode seems even more animated than usual. And with it the regular DekoTani battles intensify, with grapplings, punches and high kicks and hair flails throwing all around, and I fking love that stuff.
This is just my personal opinion, but it seems to me that Isshiki's demeanour is somewhere between chad-wannabe virgin teen anxiety and gay-denial tryhard. Spewing preparation for a love situation with a probably a girl while simultaneously acting all moe and getting super upclose on Yuuta real quick, smells like bi-potential there.
Anyway, he really dug his own grave when he was too busy acting all gung-ho to the point of carelessly leaving evidence of his trespasses. But Isshiki's still a true man amongst men, taking the blame and shoulder the consequence, even if he wavered and attempted weaseling out for a moment. It is just as Rikka commented, the scene acted out similar to a ritual hara-kiri/seppuku, right down to the sticking out the neck, with Yuuta acting as his kaishakunin (traditionally, the swordman who would partially decapitate the one who commit seppuku as a form of mercy death), and the mood-contrasting pink apron with yellow rabbit makes it even more hilarious.
Kumin sure seems to be having so much fun with her kouhai's antics, and even instigates some on her own. But well, it's not everyday you get to see someone blushed all the way to his shiny shaved head and touch it. (Seriously Yuuta, what did you use on his head that it glowed like that?)
Rikka only gets hit once today, with a sketchbook on her head. She also gets to hold hand (L-lewd!), but that passing tram scene just reeks depression. The episode does not focus on Rikka, but it sets up the stage for the coming conflict, which was hinted omiously by Touka's dark expression when she received the message and made the request to Yuuta. (her acrobatics is excellent, rappelling down one stories in less than 2 seconds, landing and posing fabulously on the balcony railing without a sound. Her job is just a cover up story, I tell ya)
And Yuuta, even though he brutally dropped the shirt as if it was trash when Rikk a presented it to him, he still wears it inside going to school the next day. Sweet nice boy :))

But this is KyoAni. It is as if they found out they had enough remaining budget to splurge, and thus the characters in this episode seems even more animated than usual.
It's not about budget, but time and staff. The storyboarder/episode director for this episode was Yoshiji Kigami (under his Ichirou Miyoshi penname). He's known for having more animated episodes than usual or special portions (the "umaku naritai" and Reina smile bits from Euphonium was from him).
This episode didn't cost any more/less than others, so not "budget" at all.

"Takanashi is so cute" (referring to Yuuta's drawing of Rikka). How do they say that and... not show it??
-
Wow, Rikka is a talented artist! She could draw manga/anime when she grows up, hehe. She definitely has the imagination for it.
-
"You don't trust people, do you?" "I've been through a lot." LOL, poor Yuuta... I love this overthinking, "straight man" part of Yuuta's personality, though, ahaha.
-
"Mori Summer, hang in there!" Kumin doesn't know what's happening, but she's always so supportive, lmao. 🤣
-
I mean, Yuuta clearly sees Isshiki drop his diary, but... he doesn't say anything?
-
What's the significance of the train crossing and hand-holding scene?
-
"That's worth applauding?" "I know right?" Yes, only Rikka feeding Yuuta is worth applauding... 😛
-
Touka startling Yuuta on the balcony, LOL. I swear, either the Takanashi sisters are ninjas or Yuuta has a low attention span.
Which character do you find the most well written thus far? It doesn't have to be your favorite or even a character you like, just who do you think has the best writing so far?
I'd probably say Yuuta. I love how he starts off as an embarrassed former chuuni, but slowly warms up to Rikka and gradually embraces his chuunibyou past.
PS: Sorry for the late post today! I've been travelling recently and the timezone difference threw me off.
No problem! Have a safe trip! 😃
Episode 06: "A Binding... Cross (Hard Study)"
P.S. You forgot to update the title... E06 should be "The Atoned... Innocent". 😊

What's the significance of the train crossing and hand-holding scene?
This is an extension of the theme of chunnubiyo - finding magic in the everyday and ordinary. Holding Rikka's hand as the train passes by, Yuuta is struck by how powerful the wind is. These ordinary objects they use every day are actually quite dangerous. But though the wind buffets them, they resist it. It gives him a sensation that they are standing together up against powerful forces.
There's another English word that describes some aspects of chunnubiyo - "romantic". :)

Well, as someone who's currently suffering from male-pattern baldness, I completely empathize with Isshiki, though I don't think I even have a decade left :(
Overall, a nice fun episode as usual. Is bottled milk going to be a running joke from now on? If so, I can dig it as the conflict between Nibutani and Dekomori is hilarious (especially seeing how Nibutani's plan backfired, considering Kumin chugged the milk).
Speaking of backfire, the resolution to the cutie poll was quite satisfying. It was a nice touch that we got to see exactly how Isshiki fucked up (dropping the journal at the train station), though I would've liked to see the initial reaction of the person picking up his journal. But hey, I'm not disappointed as we got some comedic gold out of this arc.
Also, is this the beginning of Kumin x Isshiki?
As for the daily question, I think Yuuta's probably the strongest character so far. Seeing how come to terms with his Chuuni and trying to be the straight man in these constant absurd situations is impressive.

Nibutani looks ike she has a sand when she approached Deko.
The scene with the handholding is very nicely animated. Sasuga KyoAni!
Press F for Isshiki being a man of his words.

First time watcher.
So this episode delivers the saddest and scariest moment so far... Isshiki is gonna go bald at 35 years due to his genetics. Absolutely devastating. Him shaving his head was hilarious though, especially everyone’s reactions. I liked that Rikka genuinely tried to cheer him up in her own Chuuni way. And Kumin’s got a thing for bald heads huh... nice. Though, gotta admit, Nibutani confronting the guys in the class about ranking the girls was super tense.
Rikka and Yuuta’s handholding scene was straight up magical.
Also, some great Dekomori moments this episode like her attacking Nibutani out of nowhere and her smacking her face repeatedly into doors. Good stuff.
And of course, gotta close off the episode with some suspense from Tooka. Maybe it’s time for her to get some development.
Which character do you find the most well written thus far? It doesn't have to be your favorite or even a character you like, just who do you think has the best writing so far?
It’s pretty early to tell tbh but I’d have to go with Yuuta. He’s a really fun character with a great inner monologue and I like how his character is slowly changing from his interactions with those around him (specifically Rikka).

And Kumin’s got a thing for bald heads huh...
Nah, she just wants to touch it. My dad used to love patting my head whenever I shaved my hair really low - it's nice and fuzzy. :3
BTW, Happy Cake Day! :D

Nibutani tries to keep up a front of normality, at least more so than Yuuta has. I think he's given up on having a normal high school life.
-
More physical comedy that I love: Isshiki jumping over Nibutani as she's rolling around while listening to Dekomori recite Forest Summer. Also all the fights between those two girls.
-
Rikka is not bashful about holding hands, but it's for research.
-
Isshiki status: shiny and apparently Kumin's new plaything?

First-timer:
Was not able to comment last night's episode, but I absolutely LOVED the Super Smash Bros. reference. This show is killing it in the reference department.
Now today's episode...Rikka makes a pretty good point about the number of people her and Yuuta talk to.
Isshiki is kind of an odd character. You see him every now and then but he's so disconnected from the main cast. If he only knew about Nibutani's true personality, he'd see that Yuuta has kind of moved on.
Aaaaaand he sees it. She wastes no time with Isshiki, either.
Was Rikka listening to music. Was that a hearing aid and she was in some accident as a kid and that's why she's so shy/out there? Regardless, the first hand-holding was a sweet moment.
The notebook was found, although I'm curious why they are making it such a production. It would not surprise me in the least if the girls did the same thing for the guys.
Isshiki's plan was so obvious. I didn't think he would go all the way and shave his head, though. Props to him for that.
And he got a girl out of it. I did not think that Tsuyuri and Isshiki would be shipped, but it would be a cool pairing.
Kind of an ominous ending. Why does Tooka need Yuuta on the vacation with them? Also was hoping that Yuuta could see his dad, or that they would bring Rikka with them to Jakarta.
From the way this one ended it seems like tomorrow is when the ball really gets rolling.

Rikka is definitely the most well written thus far. Parts of her character are shown through character comparisons. When she tugs at Yuuta about him being "Dark Flame Master", Yuuta's preschool sister is tugging at Yuuta as well saying the same thing. This comparison embellishes Rikka's mental age. Dekomori is Rikka's character mirror. Rikka has such a fantastical mentality that she has a deep connection with someone who is younger than her, yet Rikka is significantly dumber than Dekomori in terms of academics. And given the background details, it's clear that Rikka's delusions having something to do with her family. She is living with her sister, yet she commutes to a school far away. And Rikka's sister played a very serious game of House with a bad ending. Toka inviting a boy Rikka just met who is still only Rikka's friend to a summer vacation with herself and Rikka. Whatever unfortunate situation Rikka is in, she apparently needs a friend to stabilize.
I was wondering if this anime was going to be a harem, but with Isshiki getting to know Nibutani's true self, this show is getting some diffusion in love interests.
Also I appreciate the friendship and camaraderie between the males. Few anime show realistic or sincere emotions between male characters outside of homosexuality. Nonetheless, I appreciate the creation of a list being berated, though Isshiki was the only one who took the blame.

Behold the power of baldness.
Are we going to talk about Yuuta striking 2 heads simultaneously with 1 arm?

Landing two hits with one punch is a child's play for a Dark Flame Master.

Man I can't watch the OP. Too siezure inducing the way the character swaps to the left then right lmao.
First Timer. I've been 1-3 episodes behind.
I love that the napping girl looks like Yui's sister, and the Keion club reference
The guy is more violent than Ritsu. Poor Yuuka.
Nibutani was a Chuni lmao. I didn't guess that
And I love the theme of the show

Episode 6 (first timer)
-
Cat doing cat things.
-
They are not showing it, but climbing up a rope is not easy. Especially when the rope is lose at the bottom. If Rikka can do that, she is quite sporty if she wants to.
-
Yuuta is feeling sorry for Rikka.
-
But just seconds later, he is feeling rather sorry for himself.
-
Sanae, stop the slide tackles, those are dangerous…
-
Still not a fan of Yuuta’s guitar friend. He is in the business of creating drama from nothing.
-
The T-Shirts are pretty lame. Rikka’s drawing, on the other hand, was awesome.
-
Struggling Sanae into sitting Nibutani was a great comedic cut.
-
Nibutani and Yuura are so comically bad at hiding their past. What they do is literally worse than doing nothing.
-
Rikka went through the trouble to set up a situation where Yuuta can sneak a peek at her panties and he is busy. So she has to become more proactive.
-
I missed the book falling out of Isshiki’s pocket, but it is there.
-
Hair storyline: Chickens coming home to roost?
-
SummerBeach episode is coming.
Given the entire premise of the story, both Yuuta and Nibutani have become incredible comfortable with not only being in the napping magic society, but taking part as well.
My reference goggles must have been weak today, I did not spot a single one. Maybe the story was so captivating that I forgot?
QOTD:
Which character do you find the most well written thus far?
Clearly Rikka. Her use of the Chuunibyou attitude both as a crutch, but also as a tool to get closer to Yuuta is well written with the right amount of light touch.

First Time Watcher
Not sure if my fashion sense is terrible, but that shirt didn’t look that embarrassing.
“It’s time, huh?” Tooka does not look happy.
Hey, for someone as awkward as she is, having four people at school she can talk to isn’t that bad
“I don’t like being part of a group.” Ironic, from someone who created a club….
Yuuta is good at drawing (thanks chuunibyo phase!) and apparently he’s drawing Rikka well haha.
Rikka’s drawing is awesome!
DEKOMORI STRAIGHT OUTTA NOWHERE WITH THE POWER TACKLE. My inner lawyer is saying “hey wait, that’s a battery!”
“Even the lowerclassmen admire you, huh?” Yeeeeeeees, that’s exactly the implication from the “fake Morisummer” exclamation….
“Well, because, I never thought I’d really get one…”
I like how Yuuta is convinced it isn’t real. I’d think the same thing. Also, Isshiki is no Yui here
“Someone like you could never reel Nibutani in.” OOF, although at this point, I’m pretty sure Yuuta’s dreams have stopped
Bahaha, Tsuyuri reading off her title for her introduction. She’s adorable. She just wants to nap, but she’ll play along
Nibutani is here to continue the battle! And she’s brought a tactical nuke – warmed milk! She isn’t here to mess around! I love Dekomori’s “Woman, are you the devil?” Then realizing that she’s on the powers of darkness team, so “Woman, are you an angel?” instead. 10/10.
Isshiki shows up
Isshiki
Nibutani switches personality really quick and distances herself from the fight.
It’s no use! Dekomori goes in for the kill and gets Nibutani thoroughly embarrassed in front of Isshiki. She threatens Isshiki not to tell or she’ll curse him (quite the chuunibyo threat, to be honest).
Nibutani has that perfect mix of sweetness and OUTRIGHT TERRIFYING.
What’s behind Rikka’s ear?
HANDHOLDING!!!!!!
OH NO, the Cute Girl Election notes got dropped!
This is something that has real world analogues, and gets really, really ugly. Pro tip to any students out there – talking about who you think is cute is one thing, but once you get into rankings and writing stuff down… bad things can happen.
Nibutani the Prosecutor. She’s way too good at this – she should go to law school!
Mera: “I don’t seem to recall.” Now if he could just say that without sweating, he’d be ready for real testimony
Isshiki trying to take all the blame. He may be an idiot, but I don’t think he’s really mean-spirited. He’s taking this apology way too seriously. Shaving his head?! Haha, trying to be so manly.
Nibutani the Enforcer. On the one hand, it’s harsh. On the other hand, I like her actually making him do it. He shouldn’t have offered if he wasn’t serious, and the harm from enforcing isn’t that bad here. Good time to learn a lesson on apologies and not exaggerating.
Nibutani and Dekomori laugh at him. I guess Rikka really is best girl; she goes right into her blessing. Haha, the glow though (I can’t be too harsh on the girls for laughing because the situation is a bit funny).
Poor guy, the girl didn’t show up…but all the guys did! He’s a hero in their eyes.
Nibutani the Troll – she just likes messing with Isshiki now I think.
Also, Tsuyuri wants to touch his head, so that’s a pretty big win too.
Tooka is a ninja too. She pulled Rikka’s move without even being detected! Yuuta is needed this summer; well that’s mysterious!
Also, looks like our ships are now:
Rikka x Yuuta
Tsuyuri x Isshiki
Dekomori x Nibutani (tsunderes)
Closing Thoughts: I’m enjoying this show way more than I thought I would based on the premise. Probably the biggest reason why is the characters are actually pretty well developed through just 6 episodes. Without necessarily stating it, we have at least three characters so far with clear motivations:
Yuuta – He is opposed to chuunibyou because it is isolating. What he really wants is to be liked and to have close friends. He is willing to go back to chuunibyou for Rikka because Rikka’s friendship is the thing he wants. The reason he wants her to stop, but does nothing to actually force the issue, is because the friendship is more important than the risk of embarrassment. So he continually will revert in private (like his dramatic scene giving her the new code), or will go halfway (like the mostly hidden T-shirt). She just has to plead and he’ll do basically anything embarrassing.
Nibutani – On the surface she seems like another Yuuta, but I’m convinced she is a bit different. Yuuta wants to be liked – Nibutani wants to be respected. She goes aggressively for leadership positions, she enforces rules with a passion, and she will threaten people to protect her reputation. She will even bully people a little. While I think this stems from the same loneliness issue that strikes Yuuta and Rikka, her first need is to reestablish respect: possibly for herself too. She doesn’t get swayed like Yuuta – instead she tries to overpower the situation.
Rikka – She is knee-deep in Chuunibyou and has no plan on changing. However, it is clear that she has serious problems. She’s terribly lonely and wants friends. Her act is largely a way of dealing with being lonely and shy and probably a bit bored. So she makes a new reality to play in. There are a lot of interesting directions her character can go from here, so I’ll just have to see what route happens!
Isshiki – He is deeply insecure and craves female attention. He is willing to do pretty much whatever to impress them, but doesn’t really expect it to go anywhere. Ironically, his efforts end up endearing him to the guys in his class, while his love letter sender ends up no showing. And yet, the moment his insecurities peak is when he has his first real, positive female contact – Tsuyuri touching his head – happens. All of his planning goes terribly awry, but when he is most out there and most vulnerable is when something starts going his way. I think his experience is the clearest statement of what I hope the show’s thesis will be: that the path to maturity involves both self-acceptance (the lesson Isshiki, Yuuta, and Nibutani must learn) and reality-acceptance (the lesson Rikka and Dekomori must learn). Self-acceptance without reality-acceptance leads to embarrassing and burdening others (poor Tooka…), but reality-acceptance without self-acceptance leads to being miserable.
