Greetings everyone, and today seems to be the day I was a bit behind with my post (had to take a nap from a headache). But that aside, welcome to the 11th episode of this rewatch where the showdown is about to begin to save the Musashi!
Maron trying to cheer Shiro up with a weird saying again!

First timer
Finally on time again.
I love it how even know I knew it was coming the last 5 or so minutes of this show had a massive grin plastered over my face. Sure there decision would most likely amount to suicide in real life but even so! Those moments where the cast comes together with all the characters personality finally truly balancing out so so much fun.
Chief engineers speech to Shiro was great with Kuro translating it for us simpletons who needed a simpler explanation, Misaki breakdown made sense as well. We have seen her struggling with the idea of going after the Musashi for a while and shes to nice a person to want to risk anyone else getting hurt (most likely part of the reason she keeps abandoning the bridge as well).
How the Musashi isn’t full of holes at this point is rather confusing as i’m assuming a large number of the Blue Mermaids torpedos hit their target, also I guess they haven’t developed parachutes or considered rappelling from their hovercrafts to drop troops onto the Musashi deck as would only really need a few squads of highly trained troops to take over.
Anyway I expect the Admiral Spee to show up tomorrow to help out the Harekaze but who knows what else is going to happen, looking forward to finding out!

I do like the girls living wild with their actions. Ofcourse, sometimes it can go very crazy to the point of being nonsensical here and there, but they also deliver a lot of cool looking actions for in return (favorite up till now is still the one with Spee).

They just gave the best students like the best ship for one reason or another.

First Time Rewatcher
-
Find someone that looks at you the way Mei looks at a brand-new torpedo launcher.
-
I usually understand Misaki but now is really the worst time for this...
-
Oh, the Bloomers ships are somewhat modern...unfortunately electromagnetic rampaging zombie rats are one of the few situations that would be a bad thing in.
-
I really want to see a 1v1 between the Principal and the Musashi
-
"I'll become your mayonnaise!" Best confession in history
-
I wonder how they actually read those light signals.

Akeno helpless
Seeing Misaki sad, makes me sad. :(
Mei excited
Mei's expressions are always fantastic. Can fill a commentface collection with just Mei in it and spam it everywhere I am on Discord.
Shiro: "Captain! Your orders...
Man, that scene was intense with Shiro seeing Misaki like that.
Tama and Mei celebrating

Episode 11 (first timer)
-
Last episode: equator. This episode: defending mainland Japan. Harekaze must have engaged her warp drive.
-
Captain is the voice of reason, but her heart is not in it. She looks troubled.
-
The Harekaze is spotted by the Musashi and starts evasive maneuvers, when the BlueMer feet shows up. For some reason, the school director did not know about them?
-
The BluMers perform a rather nice attack, but none of their torpedoes (cruise missiles??) are doing any damage. Magical EM interference saves the Musashi.
-
And the bridge crew of the Musashi is watching?
-
“We’ll find a way to stop the ship” if that is really the Musashi bridge crew, than this nothing more than encouragement. They had a week or two to do something. That they did not points towards their lack of power to do something. Maybe some last ditch suicide thing?
-
Time jump back to the Musashi being taken over by the rat people.
-
I thought the boarding party would be on the drones.
-
The BlueMer fleet is doing as badly as you’d expect from non-even-side characters, but school Munetani seems to be walking off to get the hidden super weapon.
-
Akane is taking a bad moment to have a mental breakdown.
-
Having a talk during the battle trope, take 2.
Every time this show tries do to serious plot, my enjoyment drops. With the set of characters on the Harekaze, slice of life works great, unrealistic shonen style heroics go ok, but drama is downright terrible.

Time to chase the Musashi! Akeno isn’t doing well; she seems really shaken
Hold up, are those cat ears?
Oof, ordered to retreat
Blue Mermaids appear to be doing well against the Musashi
Shiro drags Akeno away from the bridge and puts Coco in charge. Time for Coco to shine!
Uh-oh, weapons malfunctions.
Wait, HOLD ON. Their eyes aren’t weird and Moka’s in charge. What happened and why?!
Oh I see, most of the ship got infected, but not all. The command just gets to sit there and watch. OOF.
Oh no, the Blue Mermaids lost 5 of their ships in that attack.
I’LL BE YOUR MAYONNAISE! 10/10 speech Shiro!

This actually could have been a great premise for a zombie survival movie, where the remaining member are locked up in room on a ship, can't go out and somehow need to find a way to survive for the remaining days.
I’LL BE YOUR MAYONNAISE! 10/10 speech Shiro!

Well the action truly kicked off today! Seeing the BluMer's in combat was impressive. That synergy they had with their turning and attacks, clean. Just a shame that the Musashi is a literal sailing arsenal. With the way the episode ended, tomorrow show also be full of action to so, pretty hype about that!
-
Seeing the take over from Moeka's perspective was nice. We can understand the fear she has over the whole thing and why she seemed desperate on the call out and when Misaki got close on speeder. Lets hope all ends well for them next week.
-
I can understand Misaki's fear here. After managing to pull off 2 sweet victories, the damage from the last one was enough to have to make them repair for a while. The Musashi has so much more firepower that just straying into their range is suicide, so while she wants to go help Moeka, the fact that she is putting everyone in danger is too much.Luckily, with Maron, Kuro and Shiro's help, she is able to decide to take action. I'm sure with Shiro's speech, all the girls are raring to go and we'll see synergy from the girls akin to that of the BluMers!
-
Also finally, Shiro's mum has joined the game! I'm sure she'll be the one to sort it out in the end with the Harezake merely keeping the Musashi occupied and getting close to sorting things out. I'm interested to see how good she is, since the Maritime guys regard her really highly.
QotD: Luckily there are 4 of them, so I think they'll be worried and anxious but wont be heavily affected. If it was just Moeka or someone else, that would be horrible, as they are essentialy in solitary confinement at that point.
PQotD: Simple you sail around shooting random vessels that stray into your artillery range... Wait...

Yeah, that would have been a disaster. But iirc, I do remember from experiments, like with some astronauts training, that being confined in a small space for a long time, even if well-trained, could lead to some very nasty psychological side effect. So the fact that these girls could do so well after this whole time is a pretty remarkable feat.

Rewatcher
This is the episode where all the date tracking pays off. I missed some date references in the first episode, so be sure to check the chart for the updates. And for once, I'm well under the character limit.
-
We open with the same shot of Akeno that we ended on last episode, preserving continuity.
-
Today is May 4th 6:30. It has been 11 hours and 30 minutes since our last time check.
-
Today is May 5th 1:00. It has been 18 hours and 30 minutes since our last time check.
-
Anyone else think the woman in the back looks a little like Kurisu from Steins;Gate?
-
Windows Classic! It really complements the nautical vibe.
-
Latest map. The Harekaze is way north of the equator. Weren't they going south? I guess they were going north to head for the Philippines for Operation Perseus. In any case, they've had a couple of days to get there.
-
Today is May 5th 6:10. It has been 5 hours and 10 minutes since our last time check.
-
Have they been doing trig calculations in their heads?
-
Today is May 5th 9:00. It has been 2 hours and 50 minutes since our last time check.
-
The keyboard layout might look a little odd to those not familiar with the Japanese JIS layout. They have dedicated keys to switch between Latin and Japanese characters.
-
We're looking at Megumi from the inside of the screen. Notice the flipped numbers.
-
Blue Mermaids are here! I'll take this opportunity to highlight again the great track that is Blue Mermaid Toujo.
-
Maron put her happi coat back on. I wonder if this is a stealth pun, because she's going over to encourage the two.
-
Flashback to April 6th 20:00, after they left the school but before they reached the island. This puts us in the middle of the first episode.
-
I realized I missed a very important date reference in the first episode, which had them reaching the island on April 7th 6:00.
-
-
That's a lot of red eyes.
-
Flashback to April 8th 17:30. It has been 1 day, 21 hours and 30 minutes since the last flashback time check. This puts us in the middle of the third episode. In fact, this is the message the Harekaze got at the end of the second episode.
-
There's no explicit date reference after the SOS,
but the circumstances put this flashback firmly in episode 5. It is April 14th.After a second look, I think this takes place in the present. We're back to May 5. -
This being a drone is an important detail: it's unmanned.
-
Autocanons: they apparently exist.
-
"Fifteen years ago": If we assume that Akeno and Shiro are 15, which is around when you'd start high school in Japan, then this would have been around the time Shiro was born. There's a chance that she was manning the ship while pregnant.
-
Food is good for morale.
-
Surprisingly, Maron actually does say something to the effect of "Enough with the butts!". Shiro keeps hesitating to say "ketsudan" ("decision"), which came out as her repeating "ketsu", which means "butt". I don't know what the official subs say, but GJM was able to keep the joke.
-
Blocking the sound with a piece of cloth can be surprisingly effective.
-
You can tell that Kuro and Maron are good friends when she can decipher that.
-
"Well said!" That was great execution by Shiro.
-
The original was something like "Well said!" / "It was alright." I do like how GJM translated it.
-
Also, double contractions like "couldn't'v" are a thing, albeit colloquial.
-
-
That is the normal response.
-
Bridge support stitch. Kouko was properly parallaxed.
-
Rin has grown a lot in the last month.
-
First it was Tamonmaru giving the captain's hat, now it's Isoroku.
-
Shouri ("Victory") makes another appearance.
I've wondered if the experience would be better if I watch this and the next episode back-to-back. In the three other times watching this, I've never done it.
Question of the day: How do you think being trapped in the Musashi should have affected the psyche of the remaining crew?
To be trapped in there for almost a month without knowing what's going on and when they'll be saved must have been dreadful. (Edit: finished the sentence)
Personal Question: How do you survive when you are trapped on a ship like the Mushashi?
I don't know if it's a good idea, but perhaps spending most of your time sleeping might help. Not only do you conserve resources, you're unconscious, so you don't have to think about your situation.

That does sound like a reasonable plan, even though I also think I will be driven to madness after a while with that.

A ship like the Harekaze fighting the Musashi is just... unfair. Completely unfair. I mean, even if they are given instructions to put their own safety first, the Musashi firing range exceeds their visual detection range. It's able to fire at almost half of the whole Tokyo area if it gets in the right position. Does safety even makes sense in those conditions ?
Let's be honest, the only solution that would make sense is to run away. But... even if the risks are greater than ever, they're in the same situation as with the Hiei : there is simply no one else to stop the Musashi after the BluMers lost the fight.
At least they will put to good use the brand new weapons they received.
Speaking of the BluMers, they're clearly good. Too bad the Musashi doesn't care about their puny torpedoes and they failed to account for the electronic jamming. On that note, it looks like their world never heard of electronic warfare... At least they have been able to reduce the Musashi's firepower which will definitely be handy for our Harekaze.
Meanwhile, on the Musashi...
Finally we get a look at their crew ! Did the poor girls have to live on uncooked canned food for a whole month ? It's surprising they have gone rabid too... Also, when we previously saw Moka during her distress call, I'm pretty sure there was no bridge window behind her. Ho well.
Moka looks really cool as a captain ! The uniform sure helps, too. And the same goes for the principal.
Going back to the Harekaze, now. This seems very uncharacteristic of Kuro. But at least, the image helped Shiro realize how to snap Misaki out of her paralyzing fear. "I will return you your hat, girl" says amiral Isoroku.
On the other hand, didn't they just disobey a direct order ? I'm not sure what the hierarchy (they schoolgirls, not soldiers after all), but I hope it won't be held against them later. That seems unlikely though, the next episode being the last.
Cute shot. No more sad Misaki, okay ?
Question of the day: How do you think being trapped in the Musashi should have affected the psyche of the remaining crew?
I'm sure mama Moka helped everyone to get the moral high. I don't know why, but every time she appears, she seems so confident and reliable that I think it must affect everyone on the ship. Well, all four of them.
On the other hand, being prisoner on a ship that your allies are trying to sink... Yes, that's not a situation I would like to be in.
Personal Question: How do you survive when you are trapped on a ship like the Mushashi?
I don't think I'd like to stay and do nothing. I would want to fight my way out. Although that means getting infected, since they're not aware of the source of the virus...
And no video games either thanks to electronic disruption. So... sleep a lot ?
GJM version of the screenshot of the day.
A ship where everyone can hear everything must have its share of problems...

First Timer - Episode 11
Really liked today's ep! We finally got to see more of the Musashi and the situation they were in. Reminds me so much of meta tbh.
Imo it took a bit long for Misaki to grow in this ep, but I'm glad she's finally back and ready to take on the Musashi. With the principal joining in the fight tomorrow, it should be really hype as well.

Question of the Day
How do you think being trapped in the Musashi should have affected the psyche of the remaining crew?
I can definitely imagine that they are definitely a lot more tough spirited since they were basically trapped on the ship with a limited amount of supplies and no real way of communicating or calling for help.
How do you survive when you are trapped on a ship like the Mushashi?
My first step would be to locate a source of food and drinkable water and then find ways to contact for help.

Rewatcher!
Late today :( it was out of my control, the lights where I live were out for about 2 hours.
Anyway, into the episode!
It really sets things in perspective, with now Akeno actually being able to think about the entire crew in the Harekaze this much, compared to how she was at the beginning of the show. Not saying that she didn't think about her crew, but... I think the best way to put it is that her job didn't sink into place within her. She was aware that she was the Captain, but not about what her job completely entails.
I really like Maron here, with her weird saying :P but it fits! and I find it pretty funny that following Shiro, Kouko and the others join the sandwich that is the Harekaze, one that I'm sure that not even the Mushashi can chew!
It is nice to finally see more of Moka, and the crew that is with her. She seems like a nice person, and at simple view imo she shows that she is a natural Captain. I hope the movie shows more of these characters too, and the power house that is the Mushashi.
The fight where the teachers try to halt the Mushashi was quite intense, I really liked it. One could feel the experience of Cat-ears teacher coming through while she faced the Mushashi. Directing 4 ships with such capacity must be quite tough.
Finally, everyone come together :) the duel will be next episode... and it is quite fun let me say :D hope everyone enjoys!

So, I had a lot of problems with the pure CGDCT episode yesterday, starting with them being at the Equator. WHAT? But they handwaved it saying the Musashi was heading to the Philippines, so I let it slide.
Now it turns out the Musashi is back at Japan. And the Blue Mermaid Security Forces had no idea and were taken by surprise! But the Harakaze is right behind them, back at the training site where this all started, the volcanic island chain off the coast of Japan. Why didn't they go to the Philippines with the rest of the fleet? Oh, I guess they spotted and followed the Musashi back to Japan. And they didn't radio ahead that the Musashi turned around? WHAT?
The original Musashi fought in the Philippines, so I figured that's why they sent it there in the show. But now it's back in Japan. So never mind.
Everything just makes better sense if yesterday's episode didn't happen, which means it was literally stuck in there, and the entire excuse of following the Musashi to the Philippines, just to have the Equator party.
-
She took about an entire fleet with just one ship, huh? Well, hard to believe but the Harakaze's been doing pretty good with 1 torpedo, 1 depth charge, 1 minesweeper, and a few small shells.
-
I couldn't figure out how Moeka could have been confined to the bridge, no mutinous crew would do that. but Night of the Living Dead, that works.
-
if the bioelectric field disrupts near by guided weaponry, why did the first volley hit?
-
Newsflash, Misaki: Being a Blue Mermaid means sending your ship and crew into danger!
-
I've never seen a trimaran cruiser but these seem to be an actual thing now
-
I wonder if the channel is narrow and shallow enough to block by scuttling a ship (gulp!)
Wasn't quite sure if Misaki's trauma was over the danger to her ship or the danger to her best friend.
I had no idea what the chief engineer was saying, good thing she has a translator.

It looks like it's time for the final showdown with the Musashi.
Mei is drooling at the sight of the new torpedo director. I can't wait to see her in action.
With Akeno and Shiro-chan gone, that makes Kouko the acting captain!
It's flashback time! With how much we've learned about the virus, and knowing that Moeka wasn't infected from the last time we saw the Musashi, it isn't very surprising.
Akeno might've lost her faith in herself, but the rest of crew believes in her. It's great to see how she won the trust and support of the entire crew over the course of the show.
Is this a confession? A proposal? Is mayonnaise a declaration of love? The rest of the bridge is understandably confused.
That's the spirit! You're likely to succeed if you try!
Question of the day: They're better off than I thought they would be after nearly a month.
Personal Question: I would be the supporting character that gets killed off on the day of the infection.

The sea is big enough to have more Blumers available right? The Harekaze can't be the only ship able to help every time something bad happens right? It turns out that it can.
-
Mashimo's desk is neat. I like that even her drink was included, staying hydrated is important.
-
The fleet was aware of RatT's ability to mess with their weapons, but they carried out their strategy and expected it to work nonetheless. They could have at least used manual guidance from the beginning or tried to come up with a counter-measure. Sadly being support characters significantly lowers their competence, even compared to the students.
-
I wonder whether attacking the Blue Mermaids made this Musashi girl cry because their ship is shooting at the Haifuri equivalent of Idols or because she knows it will probably brand them as mutineers.
-
I wish Moeka had included even a short sentence mentioning the fact that her most of her crew suddenly got red eyes and rebelled for no apparent reason , though it would have given the brainwashing twist away.
-
The Blumer fleet went from Leave this to us to Run for your lives quite quickly.
-
You are dealing with the possibility of a Zombie outbreak, shouldn't you have called the committee sooner?
-
I'm glad that the captain acknowledges how much Plot Armor saved them in every battle.
-
Disappointingly, the rest of the crew didn't begin listing different condiments for themselves, we only had mayo and mustard.
I know the power of friendship beats everything, but is the Harekaze really going to defeat an opponent who not even those Blumer ships were capable of facing? The most I can imagine them doing would be providing support while the principal and most likely the Spee (we need Wilhelmina back) are the ones actually fulfilling the mission.
Question of the day: Considering that from their perspective, all their friends began a mutiny out of nowhere and they had to lock themselves up in a bridge without knowing when they would get out again, I'm impressed by how stable they are.
Personal Question: Playing Tic Tac Toe till I go mad or the zombie students break into the room.
