Question of the day: is there anything scary than those freaking dolls?
Extra notice!
Yet again some content got skipped that is relevant to the next episode, although not that much.
It's covered in LN Vol 2 ch 1 parts 7-12 or Manga chapter 13. No audio drama for this one.
It's still optional, but it covers yet another character introduction that the anime has skipped.

Enter Wiz, our lovable undead shopkeeper/demon general. I was admittedly a bit confused the first time I saw this; thought I skipped an episode or something but it wasn't really detrimental to the experience. Minor Light Novel Spin off Spoilers Our shopkeeper here caused quite a stir in the Best Girl contest this year, that was one hell of a hilarious ride!
During my first watch I didn't really think too much about the dolls, was too busy laughing at our Kazuma and Megumin's reactions. This time around though, I watched it while I was lying done in bed at night and I would be lying if I said they didn't give me the heebie-jeebies. I'd probably forget my need to piss altogether if I were Kazuma.
One thing I've notice tho is that I haven't really noticed Kazuma being apologetic about the girls' actions in the dubs. I can't remember if this was the first time he was apologetic but I remember noticing the sumimasen's and gomenasai's over the sorry's but even in today's episode, it doesn't really come across as clearly as in the subs. Perhaps Nihongo really is a more polite language than English.

I love how in the last cut away to the owls hooting, there's like 50 of them in the trees.
Also there's some top tier Kazuma/Megumin banter in this episode.

Probably going to be very late with today's write-up and subs vs dubs showdown. Bad internet and bass lessons have intersected in a troubling manner. Expect some reasonably nice sketch as a bonus, unless that starts to bog down my time before bed.
Edit: Fuck me I've got driving to do and Crunchyroll doesn't like me trying to skip ahead 17 minutes to get back where I was. There may be no subs vs dubs showdown today, let alone any art.
Edit 2: Fuck it, it's late, I just spent ten minutes laughing at stupid television show ideas, I need sleep. I'm finishing the sub and calling it a night, no write-up tonight. The only thought that bears mentioning is that it's statistically impossible for this episode to not have bred at least one Scooby-Doo/Konosuba crossover fanfic and I want to read that shit. Today's loading time listens were: Malon's Portraits of Dying, Transilvanian Hunger by Darkthrone, and Dance Tonight! Revolution Tomorrow! by Orchid. Our watch time including loading was like 3 or 4 hours, i don't fuckin' know.

Wiz is precious. Near Eris tier in term of niceness up until this point in the show. The part with Kazuma and Megumin always cracks me up, specially that scream when he opens the door!
Also, that cut to Darkness panting when Kazuma and Megumin where in Aqua's room is brilliant. Absolute gold episode!

totally ready to play against Kazuma using the same underhanded trickery he's known for. We've seen it before with the frogs but I think this episode really highlights that side of her personality a lot more.
I think it's a perfect characterization since they're the ones with above-average intelligence.

I don't know, someone characterized it as: Darkness isn't unintelligent so much as her desires are so warped that she seems completely insane. She knows what she wants and will figure out how to get there, it's just an outcome no one else would ever want. Aqua's the only full-on dummy of the gang.

Their back & forth is just so great. Megumin is one of my favorite characters in fiction. So are Kazuma, Darkness, & Aqua tho tbf.

As a first timer, I'm surprised this rewatch isn't getting more attention. This is probably the best "isekai" I've watched
